Extra military information - Despites successful efforts throughout the ongoing-and-extensive war preparation decades, the Japanese military is largely a factionistic institution rife with rivalries. However, it was with great effort - and the pressure of a growing foreign threat - that led to some form of operational streamlining. Reorganisation of the Army and Navy aviation arms led to a clear division of roles: the IJA Air Service is responsible for tactical bombing and land reconnaissance; while strategic bombing and naval aviation are relegated to the IJN Air Service. Equipment was also streamlined to allow for mutual supplying and replacement.

Over the decades in what is known as the Chinese Civil War, Japan has been supporting the Fengtian Clique based in Manchuria, partially due to their proximity to the Korean border and partially as a buffer from the Soviet Union. However, with the escalating threat from the Soviet Union, as the first half of the century draws to a close more and more military strategists are re-evaluating the China situation. Specifically, the feasibility of drawing the Fengtian and KMT into an alliance against the CCP before it becomes a foothold for Soviet influence and if possible... further cooperation against the USSR. Of course... all that is on top of using the KMT's meagre naval forces as target practice. Anonymously, of course.

History
For years, the Japanese military - led by increasingly militant commanders - have had a free hand in their own affairs. While the Navy had continued to toe the line set by the civilian government, the Army - with the implicit permission of Tojo - had grown increasingly daring. However, a potential spark of war - the planned sabotage of a rail section near a Chinese garrison - was derailed when the IJA high command, concerned with the increasing insubordination and militarist behaviour of the Kwantung Army, specially requested Major-General Yoshitsugu Tatekawa to curtail such behaviour. By chance, Tatekawa arrived early and was able to uncover the plot. The following period was one of great upheaval in the IJA ranks, as the high command cracked down on insubordination and the subversive philosophies popular with the lower ranks.

However, aware that this lapse in the Army's reputation could well give the Navy the upper hand in their rivalry, the War Minister and the IJA high command sought another avenue to increase their branch's importance (if not prestige) - playing up (rightly) the Soviet threat to the north. Years of successful campaigning, supported by the increasingly frequent skirmishes against the Red Army, saw increasing funding diverted to Army projects - one of the priorities being the development of better tanks to match the maturing Soviet armoured forces.

Expanding on the philosophy of Japanese militarism, the IJA led the way in arming the local populace of Japan's expanded domain, in reality a calculated measure to lessen their operational load as well as to better utilise natives more acclimatised to their home climates. The Taiwan Army, considered to be founded in the early 1940s, began with the establishment of the Takasago Volunteers, a special operations group comprised of indigeneous tribesmen. It later went on to become Taiwan's very own premier special operations unit. Slightly up north saw increased recruitment of Okinawans into the Japanese military, especially in the rapidly maturing Special Naval Landing Forces. Meanwhile, lessons learnt from the Siberian Intervention led to the efforts centred at Hokkaido, Karafuto, and the Kurils - the recruitment of the Ainu populace into a new winter warfare group that by 1945 led to the Ainu effectively dominating the 7th Division (garrisoned in Hokkaido).

The Japanese Navy, despite the failure to retain their dominance in budgetary affairs, nonetheless saw many projects completed successfully. With their still-significant budget - obtained through pushing the point that the Army's plans has little yield in potential resources - the Navy sought a very different path from their global contemporaries. The Great War, despite the Japanese's somewhat minor involvement, opened the IJN high command's eyes to a new development in naval technology when - in 1914 - the Japanese seaplane carrier Wakamiya conducted the world's first sea-launched air raids. This marked the start of a further (if minor) split in the Japanese military command - the "Big-Guns" camp of admirals advocating the retention of the battleship as Japan's primary capital vessels, and the "Aviation" camp pushing for advancement of naval aviation as the dominant doctrine. With informal support from the IJA (who too saw the potential of air power projection in aid of their own campaigns), the Aviation camp came to dominate - and utterly rewrite - Japanese naval doctrine in the early 1940s. The lax hand that the Washington and London Naval Treaty had on carrier number further aided their cause and, as the mid 1940s came around, Japan's Naval Air Service - comprising 16 fleet carriers in three air fleets - became one of the world's most powerful air forces.

The failed assassination of Queen Myeongseong in 1895 - and subsequent reprisal of all Japanese involved - led to a change in the Korea-Japan dynamics. Emperor Meiji, as a form of repentence to his Korean counterpart, privately proclaimed a policy of "righteous suzerainty" to his highest government officials. In practice, it meant that Japan would seek to aid Korea in its development into a regional power and to offer all necessary military and diplomatic protection to their neighbour, without seeking to subvert Korean self-rule or annex Korea. This led to the peninsular nation's almost meteoric rise in terms of modernisation and culminated with the proclaimation of the Korean Empire by Emperor Gojong in 1897. With his passing in 1919, Emperor Sunjong came into power over an empire-in-name that, while lacking the political and military might of its neighbour, was nonetheless able to hold its own.

The year 1945 is marked by a major political transition in Japan, and was the start of a series of policy changes so alarmingly deviant from the Empire's former path towards seemingly-inevitable war that it caused waves even beyond the island nation's shores. 1945... was the year that Hideki Tojo, warhawkish Prime Minister of Japan, stepped down due to health reasons. His successor, appointed with little fanfare, is retired admiral Kantarō Suzuki. An individual that, in recent years, had been noted for being increasingly vocal in his opposition to war.

Major Domestic Issues - foreign resentment, banditry, lack of industrial basis and modern equipment, Communist supporters, feudal command system
Major Foreign Issues - Japanese influence, conflict with KMT, Soviet support for communist insurgents

History - The Fengtian Clique was one of the most modern warlord states during the warlord era of China, even close to if not excelling in modernized arms than that of the Nationalist Government during the Northern Expedition, which resulted in heavy losses to the Nationalist Government. A assassination plot was discovered and war narrowly avoided, saving both Zhang Zoulin's and Wu Junsheng's life and the blame being put on Chinese Nationalist agents. Allowing him to lead his armies back into Beijing in 1930, parading through the town flying both the flag of the Fengtian Clique, but the former Beijing Government flag as well. Though he declared that the Beijing Government was a failure after the Zhili betrayed him, declaring the Fengtian Government the true successors to the name of China.

Between the years of 1930-1934 gave Zhang time to consolidate his new holdings, reforming the burdening taxes that were placed on the people during the time under Kai-Shek's rule and expanding industries with state funds. He also reformed the education system with guidance of Japanese advisers to form a secular and modern system of Governance and education, the advisers hoping for special treatment for Japanese citizens moving into the Fengtian Government but given equal treatment like all ethnic groups. Along with law making and Government building Zhang allowed major Japanese investments into the Fengtian economy, building up the several heavy industries within the nation, roads, and railways. The Showa Steel Works being built as a joint Fengtian-Japanese owned steel mill and quickly becoming the largest of its kind, as well as the Fegntian Railway Company which with heavy guidance by Japanese business owners, Representatives and some Military officers expanded the railway system throughout Manchuria and Northeastern China. As well as increasing the agricultural output of crops, having farmers learn and adopt modern farming methods to improve production which allowed more exports to be sent to Japan.

Following the years if economic growth it wasn't until the years of 1936-1939 was Zoulin concerned with the safety of the nation, several border clashes with Soviet soldiers showing that even though Fengtian had a modern army it still wasn't modern compared to Soviet forces. Which led to the Fengtian-Japanese Cooperative Defensive Pact which allowed the already stationed Japanese 1st Army, the Kwantung Army (which was stationed during the Northern Expedition following the unofficial alliance between Fengtian and Imperial Japan.) to stay within the borders. This having both positive and negative effects on the nation, a large decrease of bandit attacks and crimes due to the presence of armed troops and to some a safe nation. But to many they saw it as occupation, including many members of Zhang's staff who many saw the Warlord as becoming more and more influenced and under the control of Japanese expansionism, leading to a small two month rebellion which was quickly put down.

The next years between 1940-1948 as relative peace, though the Chinese Civil War did rage on little action other than sporadic fighting and hired bandits to commit to raids were used. Giving time for the Fengtian Government to maintain its order and to expand its economy with the ever growing support of the Japanese Government. Organizing their armies based on that of the Imperial Japanese Army but with several modifications and obtaining many production rights to produce Japanese vehicles which they did to support against the ever growing concerns of the USSR and KMT, many generals still staying quiet due to their loyalty to Zhang. But the times are changing and Zhang's health is slowly failing, his son an ace pilot in the Fengtian Army Air Force will be left his father's legacy, time will tell if he can fill his father's shoes.

Actually, I'll alter my government's organizational structure:
A Presidential Dictatorship, with unfair elections.
Various Commissars for insanity
Military Generals that can overthrow government.
However, labor unions will be allocated some more power, and nonvoting electoral delegates in the Turkish National Congress of 5,000 seats.
The people that elect the TNC.

You know, now that I think of it, I'm going to have to fully take control of the country if anything is going to change.

Why change when you can keep the status quo of letting a french hobo and an insane turkish man solidify their control over the government after a failed military coup.

(The USSR at its height had 20,000+ planes prior to ww2, but most of those were outdated)

Well the USSR was poor as fuck so I don’t think it could’ve afforded 40,000+ planes. But Japan was, and was heavily iindustrialized.

You don't actually seem to know your WW2 era facts. The USSR's GDP per capita in the late 30s was roughly on par to that of Japan. And even with over twice the population and far more natural resources, the Soviet airforce would never grow that large during peacetime.

Could you possibly recheck the Japanese numbers? I don't believe even during RL ww2 that military production there was that high, and take into account that it's peacetime right now.

Co-OPs are generally supposed to know the facts, especially when they're rather important when it comes to judging apps.

I'm inclined to agree with DEA. That seems like there's hardly any quality control. Of course I was guilty of this during my RPs, I let in a fascist mickey mouse played by Pimps while I was emperor ronald regean, the king who married a licorice flavored jelly bean.

I'm inclined to agree with DEA. That seems like there's hardly any quality control. Of course I was guilty of this during my RPs, I let in a fascist mickey mouse played by Pimps while I was emperor ronald regean, the king who married a licorice flavored jelly bean.

Newne, you're generally guilty of this (nobody else in the goddamn world RPs Nazi Barney or something along those lines), but we always forgive you. After all, you are an indispensable member of Cobalt (well, my RPs as well).

Apparently I got the leader wrong, apparently I was president Billy Mays in the year 2000, one of my more frequent ideas I use for RPs.
It never took off, sadly, but it was nutty.

You know, for my failed sandbox RP (the 2nd one), Pimps was also insane Nazi Disneyland.
