Responsible for national crimes -e.g. inter-cantonal and international human trafficking, banditry or gun-running- is the Civil Protection Office. Under its command of the CPO are the Home Guard and the Special Inspector's Detachment.

The Home Guard is responsible for assisting the SID in particularly dangerous cases of banditry. It also takes charge of internal security operations, civil defense and internal security.

The SID investigates "crimes against the Commonwealth" such as sedition, treason, terrorism or other threats to the common good.

In addition to the various local police forces which do the majority of law enforcement legwork, the Empire does have a national military police force known as the Reichsgendarmerie. Famous for their striking black uniforms with white piping and markings, the Reichsgendarmerie not only enforces military justice within Aldina's armed forces but also carries out certain civilian law enforcement duties, prosecuting inter-jurisdictional crimes and crimes against the state (which in wartime includes political crimes). Their intelligence department, the Reichsgendarmerie-Geheimdienst (RGGD) is often made out to be a sort of secret police, but is really more like a plainclothes state detective agency.

Regular police are part of Civilian Protection, a branch of the New Transeurasian Armed Forces, but they are technically civil police, due to them not being Gendarme, which are military police. City Defense forces also count as military police.

We have two kinds of police: a federal gendarme and the state police. The state police enforce laws and are a power reserved for states, states can form municipal police if they choose to do so, but generally they do not, aside from a few big cities. The federal gendarme is a military police force whose powers are customs, immigration (especially in airports since most of the borders are open) and protection of federal and military installations. State police forces are civilian enforcing civil law, they generally don't carry weapons, usually the imperial police do since they are military police.

Our police are broken up like this:

• Community Bureau : The department that places officers around the community, in businesses, in high-risk neighborhoods, etc. They respond to minor crimes like break-ins, etc. They also deal with traffic issues. Community Bureau officers are assigned to one of three duties: traffic, location (guarding a specific location, such as a bank), or neighborhood. Neighborhood officers have the greatest freedom to investigate and deal with what they think needs to be dealt with.
• Emergency Response Bureau: This is the "SWAT" teams, the teams that are called in to deal with major issues and tactical situations. They deal with hostage situations, active shooter situations, and terrorism. This bureau is also responsible for answering emergency calls and either assigning a community officer to an issue, or activating the ERB.
• Investigatory Bureau: This department consists of detectives who investigates major crimes like murder, assault, burglary, and rape. They also investigate businesses and sales fraud.
• Rehabilitation Bureau: These officers are often trained as therapists, psychologists, or even medical doctors. Their jobs are to rehabilitate convicted criminals, whether in a Rehabilitation Center, or through mandatory therapy/education. These officers help individuals find jobs and housing, battle mental illness, and turn from their destructive and antisocial behaviors. One officer described the job as "The most emotionally taxing, but also the most rewarding."
• Peace Bureau: This bureau has one job-- to prevent violence. It doesn't care about financial or victimless crimes, or even getting convictions. This bureau was founded by the King in 1982, to deal with a crime wave. It's motto is simple-- "Prevention." They are similar to the US's FBI.
• King's Guard: The most prestigious law enforcement bureau in the country, the King's guard is responsible for many different tasks, such as preventing terrorism, investigating major attacks, preventing gang wars, and catching serial killers. However, their most important job is to keep members of the government-- first, the King, than, all the Senators, Justices, and Cabinet Members safe. The King's Guard is like the US Department of Homeland Security mixed with the Navy Seals-- really the best of the best.

Technically, all are Federal Peace Officers. We have no "vice" squads because all "vices" (drugs of any kind, prostitution, etc) are legal. So, there are no "Narcotics" officers, no prostitution busts, no gambling takedowns, etc. We focus on the important stuff, namely violent crime.

Most officers carry only two weapons: a real pistol, firing real bullets; and a tranquilizer pistol, firing a "dart" that tranquilizes a subject for 10 seconds. Some officers, mostly members of the King's Guard and Emergency Response Bureau, also carry long guns, like a rifle or a shotgun.

Lillorainen has two types of police - the Federal Police and the State Police. The former is paramilitary, while the latter is civil.

The Federal Police (Bundespolizei, BP) has following duties:

• Border protection (by sea and by air)

The State Police, as the name suggests, is civil police managed by the state governments. They are the local law enforcement units dealing with everything ranging from the guy stealing a chocolate bar in the supermarket to the guy trying to blow the supermarket up.

The organization heavily varies from state to state - for example, states that were heavily affected by the 1970s Unification War often have separate bomb disposal units, while others need the support of the Federal Police in case UXO is found there. Some states try to show a sufficient police presence to ensure a feeling of safety, while others don't (especially when they lack of funding). Three states also maintain Municipal Police forces. Seven states as well as the Federal Police also have Mounted Police units.
While all sirens sound equal (basically like the one in Austria), the vehicles look very different from state to state. Also, since 2006, states issue their own license plate systems for police vehicles (while there is one national system for civil plates).
