He looked over to Wren. "Nice trick, but I prefer walking," he teased, referring to her acrobatics.
The sound of nearly a dozen blasters continued unabated as the simpleminded B1 Battle Droids fired indiscriminately into the building where a handful of students had hunkered down. The droids weren't the best of shots but they were persistent to a fault.
"Think we're being a little unfair?" asked Katarn after witnessing the scene for a moment. Aside from Linea and Xin Endoni the students had no training in how to use a lightsaber, much less defend themselves against blasters, and undoubtedly would be fettered to simply hacking their way to success. It was like using a hammer for surgery. Painful, even to watch.
"We had twice as many droids," answered a pleasant voice that was actually two off-sync. The twins, Ashaika Ren and Ashaika Len, joined those already gathered in the small clearing, a matching set and perfectly identical in every which way. Sephi, youthful in appearance, with pointed, elf-like ears and skin that was too pink to be human. Hair was dark, cut moderately short and styled so that the two appeared as a mirror to one another. Figuratively joined at the hip.
Katarn looked to the pair as if he'd seen a ghost. "When did you two get back?"
"We wanted to see the new students," began one twin with the other finishing, "so we came to watch."
Unlike the other Jedi Knights who'd been called to D'Qar to assist in establishing the academy, Ren and Len were frequently off-world, running errands for Master Skywalker or playing diplomat with the senators on Coruscant. The twins, despite being more than a bit mischievous, were good at schmoozing and were partly responsible for the New Republic being as generous as it had been in assisting the New Jedi Order. There was only so much Leia could accomplish.
The twins, like Katarn, made themselves comfortable, sitting next to one another on a stump to watch the fiasco down in the mining camp. A few others would probably be joining them for the show at some point. Tarryyn was busy, and Bo Ganthor was a maybe, but Mara Jade would be around somewhere with Alon Windtine not too far behind.
