Postby The most forgotten land » Tue May 01, 2018 11:36 pm

Hi Nationstates.. i just have a new idea, it had nothing to do with the cards but this new idea might seriously change the way Nationstates is looked. how about introducing news and major news for your Nation? like every 10 hours or so you get news on whats happening with your Nation? bad events... bad stuff happening and even good events and good stuff happening in your Nation.. we would get newspapers for this.... this would really really be awesome and cool to implement!!! :D please oh please!!

We already have something like that through the headlines after you answer an issue.
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” - C.S. It starts when it starts.

As has been previously stated numerous times, it all depends on our volunteer admins finding time to code it. Right now, they're busy with their real jobs, and trying to keep their families fed and sheltered. Updating this free web game comes a distant second.

Is there likely to be any notice, when we know when it starts, about when it will start? Or are we just going to be thrust into the action without us knowing?

Not my decision, nor do I know anything about current progress. I expect there will be a News post, or a post in here or Technical, or flashing lights on a console somewhere. Maybe cruise missiles will deliver your first deck. We'll find out when we find out.

Ooh, I just had an idea.

What if, to give the cards a functionality, a new version of the Challenge mini-game was played, except the stats of the nations the cards correspond to are used instead of your own?

Max's Post mentioned farming cards from extra nations as being a problem. I'll admit I did this during the April run. I have a total of four nations in their own little region (I am quite proud) and I did consolidate my cards to my main nation. Thing is, I didn't see this as a problem because it's not like they were for a game like Magic the Gathering where building that bigger deck would hurt someone else. So to get to the point I don't see how this is a problem without a more advanced system of play... I did also trade with others as I wanted to collect certain cards but for the most part, I had a LOT of fun trying to build up a powerful deck on one side and funny decks on the other.

Still, if you all hate the idea that's fine so I'd like to understand how these countermeasures are supposed to work. It isn't very clear to me and If it were I would like that. I like to find design flaws and solutions to them so getting that chance would probably make up for losing out on my nice little system.

Idea:

A:
On the commentary quoted below, perhaps people could set a simple system where if they want to collect every card in the game they have a standing offer for any card that 1. they don't have, at a price that 2. must be higher (by x that they set) than the junk price, and 3. the offer only applies so long as they have the appropriate bank. this could also work for people who want rare cards, just change the criteria in part 1. of your offer.

(the idea terminology evolves a little here)

This way you don't have thousands of tiny individual nuisance offers clogging up the system but rather very simple buy bots for players that actually want to build a specific and easily defined deck. The buy bots don't have to be resource intensive either... ie it could run once upon activation by the user with a timeout limiter that resets after six (or other numbers) hours at which point the user may run it again... Then you can implement an offer quantity limit for the nuisance stuff without hurting the aforementioned collector as people won't get far scamming if they can only run 10 offers at a time.

B:
Barring this system, it would be nice if in the upcoming marketplace there was at least a little bit of info on each card, including if you already have it and how many you have. then our collector doesn't have to cite his/her deck directly every time he/she considers a purchase.

Nationstates the Gathering wrote:
Vovodoco wrote:I don't want to restrict how many cards I'm allowed to buy.

I don't want to restrict how many buy offers I'm allowed to have at a time. The theoretical ability for me to put a buy offer on every card on NS is absurd:
1. I don't see anyone doing it.
2. Many of the cards will be sold. So even if a buy order on every card was done, the order will be filled eventually, leading to the buy orders ending by themselves.
3. I think it's a good cause to try to get every card in the game.

Imma keep reading your suggestions, but those jumped out at me.

Theres no harm in trying to get every card in the game. This particular suggestion is just one way amongst others to provide a response to items like this: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=440246

Where instead of realistically trying to actually purchase every card in the game, user(s) are just placing blind offers 99% below the junk value in the hope that someone either mis-clicks or quits in a fit of rage and they get lucky with a 'free' card.

It's not intended to get in the way of people who are legitimately trying to buy specific cards from placing offers on them. Maybe the number of offers itself doesn't need to be restricted, but you have to have the bank to cover all the offers you make, in the assumption they are all accepted. There are many ways to address it :)

One thing to consider on this point, however, is that a permanent game would have a completely different flow than this mini game. In this week-long mini game, these "blind" offers are required - there simply isn't enough time in this game to negotiate over cards and work out deals with other users. You just have to place bids out there and see if anyone bites. However, in a permanent game the pace will be much more 'relaxed'. Blind offers where you just stick a price out there and hope someone accepts it sometime in the future may be less important than the actual negotiation part of deliberately picking cards you want and working out a deal for them - particularly if other features like trading and gifting are introduced making it such that blind bidding is not the only form of transaction

People who read more than just the last post have all the information there is to be had. It's getting more than a little frustrating to ask people to simply scroll up a screen or two.

Perhaps the OP of the thread could put a very large and noticeable edit at the top of the thread with an explanatory quote to cull the tide of the exact same question. It probably wouldn't stop it altogether, though.

I told you, jusr put phony progress bar of the work over the cards. Increase it by 1% every day, so you have 100 days to wrap it up.

Read above; we've been told that the volunteer admins have real lives, too. They have families to feed and shelter, and the card game is more of a small hobby on a free site. They need spare time to code it.

What if we could make a stat, "Deck Size", that you could get badges in and could be used in challenges like any other stat?
