The History of the Imperial War (OOC, TWI only)

March 16, 1941.

Cruiser Squadron 14 plied the waves of the South Mesder, their nearly black hulls flowing seamlessly into the dark water. Their silhouettes were just beginning to reappear as dawn began to bring light back to the sky. Hampton led the column, followed by her sister Plaistow, and then the light cruisers Pegasus and Renown. The sea was calm and the morning peaceful. But the radar screens brought the sailors to realize that this was not going to be so for much longer. A large blip appeared, bearing 320, range 18,000 yards. The silence would be broken by the general quarters alarms before it would be broken by the combined roar of sixty piston engines.

The crews of the four ships had no way of knowing that similar alarms were sounding all around the world.

On that day the Imperial War began. Angered by the 1922 Moratorium on Colonization, a coalition of rising powers led by Keomora had been biding their time, waiting for the right moment to take their rightful place on the world stage. The old empires were corrupt and complacent, and the independent nations too disunited to stop the multi-pronged invasion. Or so they thought. An uneasy alliance of empires and independent nations, some of them former colonies themselves, would come together to fight the common enemy over the next eight years. Their eventual victory will come only at great cost, and a new world will emerge from the ashes.

This is the premise of the story. This thread is for the discussion of the history of the Imperial War (1941-1949). This is not going to be a role play event, rather it is a joint history project, involving all the nations that participated. Here we will discuss the plot, the details, and the ultimate outcomes of the largest war in the region's history.

We will host discussions on this thread. When we have agreed on a particular element, for example, a battle or campaign, players will be invited to write about it. The writings will be posted here (preferably with a spoiler or text box) so that the other participants can check it for consistency an errors. When the editing process is done the section will be added to a master factbook which I will maintain. This will keep all of the events organized and in chronological order, no matter when or by whom they are written.

While the main focus of this writing is going to be on large scale events, diving into detail about a particular engagement, technology, or person is highly encouraged. In Character stories are also welcomed. These things may be linked in the master factbook so that anyone reading about the war can find them. A separate thread for stories may be created in the future if that becomes popular. Otherwise write them as Account dispatches.

1. This thread is for members of The Western Isles only. No exceptions. It is not possible to include anyone or anything outside of the region. Violators will be prosecuted.

2. This is a cooperative project. All major decisions, especially those that involve the forces or people of another country, must be agreed upon by everyone involved. If all you want to do is make a bunch of stories about how your great general goes around beating up everyone else, you are free to go write that somewhere else.

3. If you want to join you should send me (Miklania) a telegram before posting here, so that we may figure out the basics of your participation andor get you caught up with the story without having to interrupt the thread.

4. Realism matters. Myself and others will pay anal levels of attention to realistic actions and technical details. If you are corrected, it is not a personal insult, we just want everyone to learn how to make this the highest quality story possible.

Wellsia at this point is a dominion of Noronica and will provide troops to assist in her war effort. The fleet only has a handful of minesweepers, gunboats and torpedo boats. Air Force about 200 aircraft, most obsolescence.

During the war Keomora would have one primary goal: to retrieve territory Keomora lost in the last century. The primary focus have been to reannex their former holding in Argus, and in particular secure the canal, capture and fortity the Oasis, and have a northern campaign to secure a more geographically defensible border.

[Alteran Republics]

The Alteran would largely have a defensive force in nature, so would be largely unprepared for mass mobilisation. Though I'll need to finalise this with Noronica - it's likely that any short term Alteran deployments would be token infantry/aerial assets until the Noronican-led Alteran war machine gets going.

Sounds good. We can probably use the canal area since it's not an actual nation, unfortunately without anyone there I don't know what we can do with central-western Argus. Kobratia is still north of you but hasn't been active for a couple weeks, so I don't know if he'll be around much longer. Storalia is one place you can invade, and I've TG'ed Xrevaro, but have not gotten a response yet. I don't know who the Blakenham fellow in KH's old spot is.

Miklania, would it be possible to start a list of sides? I understand that we are in a preliminary stage, but I think it would help if we could cement the sides at the moment for both the purposes of preparation and for interested players who wish to join.

I'll need to talk to ostehaar about the possible effects before I commit, but I would be willing to join the imperialist side of the conflict. We were attempting to assert naval dominance over the eterna sea at the time, but were checked by ostehaar. My ww2 history ends in 1948 as a strictly oster-thuzbek ordeal

Having Gained Independence from Italy in the early 1930s, san montagna was a relatively poor nation, and did not have the means to launch any military offensives, as such, the military would be suited for defense.
its equipment was outdated mostly 1920s Italian weaponry. Athara Magarati aggression would have brought it into the war.

Nations that had been attacked and whose very existence was threatened had an immense motivation to become total war economies, sending every able bodied man to the front in nice new ships. But even then youd peobably get between 500k and 1 million under arms.

I'd like to:

- Have mercenaries on both sides of the war. This is when my mercenary force and nation begins to completely break down.
- Be a northern battlefield. There's been a mass exodus and no true government or defensive force so resources are available for plucking
- Participate in some more (probably illicit by this time) chemical warfare.

...judging by my nation's history at the time it'll likely wind up being as peaceful as possible, until something decides it wants a land grab.

The military was small, underfunded, and outdated. All it Storalia had going for it in terms of military advantages was its rocketry program.
It was one of the global leaders in civilian tech at the time, though.

At some point we should have a Leyte Gulf equivalent; may I suggest a battle between a combined Magarati-Ilsan Fleet fighting an allied fleet of some sort (Probably based around Miklania)?
