What do Phone Numbers look like in your nation?

Postby Jurestist » Fri Apr 20, 2018 11:32 pm

As the title says I want to know what phone numbers look like in your nation also please explain how they function as well.

In Jurestist phone numbers aren't called phone numbers they're called "Phone Codes" and because each area is set up in a block format each block is given a number so for Rockbridge University the Phone Code is 016-67::****
Then each Department has it's own four digit number that needs to be dialed for example; Admissions- x0010, Medical & Dental School- x3214, Dean's Office- x0145, General Information- x1290

The 67 is the location number as to where the person or business is located

(Block number & Location number)-->016-67::0010<--(Person or Business you want to call)

New Transeurasia uses the ETNP.

An example of a phone number would be:
1-909-623-12891
1- is New Transeurasia
909 is fictional area code
623-12891 is subscriber number
or
1-309-1587-0108
1- is New Transeurasia
309 is fictional area code
1587-0101 is subscriber number
Subscriber numbers in the ETNP can either be xxx-xxxxx or xxxx-xxxx.

We have free enterprise, so each provider has its own system. In practice, the major providers agree on blocks of numbers for each but there can be disputes. There are also some smaller providers who use whatever numbers they wish. So, long story short, there is no guarantee that your phone number is unique. In Fatatatutti, communication is an adventure. You never know where it might take you.

+834 X-XXXX-XXXXXX

834 is the country code for Gandoor and is only used for international calls to Gandoor.

The first digit is the administrative division the number is registered in: 1 represents Osaka Yon, 2 represents Freena Yon, 3 represents the Gandoor City Capital District, 4 represents Icpo Yon, 5 represents Hegmon Yon, 6 represents Juon Yon, 7 represents Southside Yon, 8 represents Yanot Yon, and 9 represents Yontan Yon.

The next four digits are the area code, which is determined by the district of the yon that one resides in. All commercial entities, however, have to use one of the following area codes; 3000, 5000, or 7000 for their non-local phone numbers.

The last six digits are simply random numerals.

Two example telephone numbers would be:
4-2335-961265 (This would be a number registered to someone living in Icpo Yon, however the number is fictitious as no area code ends with the number 5)

7-3000-146948 (This number is an example of a non-local number for a commercial entity. In this case, it's the number used to contact the headquarters for Ichiban Burger, a Gandoorese fast food chain, which is headquartered in Southside, Southside Yon)

The emergency telephone number in Gandoor is 111 and it can be used to dispatch the police, fire department and ambulances. Another important number is 222, which is officially designated as a 'helpline' but can be used for such things as: noise complaints, reporting abandoned vehicles in roadways, reporting non-working streetlights, traffic lights, etc, among other subjects.

Within a bunker, individual shelters can be reached by dialing a four digit number (i.e. "3456").

Phones can be used to dial from bunker to bunker by adding a " # " before dialing the four digit number of the party.

To reach the surface, callers must dial a " * " before dialing the four digit number.

Simply dialing "1111" on any phone will summon Public Security, and dialing "0000" will summon an operator.

Phone numbers? What are those? Pft!

If you want to contact someone outside walking distance, you pass it to the local governors who pass it through the information departments, who then heavily scrutinize the information both digitally and physically before finally sending it to its destination. In summary: Information technology is reserved for the military and heads of state, civilians must use conventional methods of physical lettering if they can't be arsed to go there personally to say stuff.

To be fair lacking personal cellphones is a bureaucratic hell... Maybe we should reconsider handing information technology to civilian markets someday...

Phone numbers in Purpelia were basically issued by each individual duchy but they always started with 1 and went on from there. So like the first person to buy a private telephone got the number 1 followed by 6 zeroes, and than it later got migrated to 7 zeroes. So like your phone number might look something like 13376660 and typically will.

There is also the call number for each duchy which is 1+ a number so 11 to 17. And you only need to use that if you are dialing another duchy. So like 11-13376660.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

(Block number & Location number)-->016-67::0010<--(Person or Business you want to call)

Kelso uses 12 digit phone numbers. At least seven are needed although to call outside of the Block area requires additional digits.

The nation is divided into 9 top level "Regional Codes" (NW, N, Ne, W, Central, E, SW, S, SE) followed by 81 District Codes (Named after the largest metropolitan area). Each district is in turn given 81 Area Codes (named after distinctive landmark or populated area). From there each Phone Service issues a seven digit number. Those not allocated are reserved for government use.
4*23*75*938-2832 would be
4 = West Keslo
23 = Kangen Region
75 = Farmham Block
938-2832 is the subscription number.

With the advent of picketed wireless communictions, a number no longer necessarily represents its origin.

I forgot to mention that in order to call into Jurestist from another country first you have to dial 212 so for example if you were calling Rockbridge University from another country then the number would look like this {212}016-67::0010

In Erithaca, the dialling code is +1-158. There are 6 numbers in a phone number. The first two show the area. There are separate divisions of the country for phone numbers. The last 4 are unique to each phone.

An example would be:

+1-158 70 3651

First identifies province, although if it is 8 or 9 it means it's a mobile number.
On landlines the next three represent the calling area within the province the phone is registered in, and the last six uniquely identify the phone, while on mobile there are nine digits to uniquely identify the phone.

The last two sets of four numbers are always dialed- area codes are only needed out-of-area and state codes out-of-state.

The infamously long, future-proofed numbers have spawned the joke that calling across the country is like entering nuclear launch codes.

Phone Numbers in New Luzon are written in full. Within a realm, neither area code nor country code is required; within the Kingdom but outside the realm, only the area code with a trunk prefix (0) is required; outside the Kingdom, both the country code and the area code are required. To use an example from the Royal Capital Duchy:

Within the RCD - YYY-ZZZZ
Within the Kingdom but outside the RCD - (02) YYY-ZZZZ
Outside the Kingdom - (+632) YYY-ZZZZ

In the case of mobile numbers, they are written as +63 (9XX) YYY-ZZZZ or 09XX-YYY-ZZZZ, with the two XX digits corresponding to a specific telecom provider.

Communicator numbers are assigned in the order that they come online. There are no regional codes. This makes it so that if you activate a communicator today, your "frequency number" will be something like 1,947,375,937,010. As this shows, many more communicators have been sold since the inception of the system than there are people.

The only exception is that "1" (as in, just plain "1") always officially belongs to Leader Megatron. Unfortunately, everybody knows this, so it is constantly inundated with calls - and because of that, it is functionally useless and he hasn't even tried to use that device in years.

The smallest active communicator identifier is 3. This belongs to General Shockwave, who, besides being a general, is the head of the physics bureau. It stands to reason that he has been able to keep his 700-year-old device functional (and its hardware updated enough to interface with the current system), though now, he only uses it when he wants to demonstrate that it does indeed still work.

~~~~~~~~~
We have never used the term "telephone" (or derivatives thereof) for our communicators since they developed from a completely different tech tree than Earthian telephony. However, using them is very similar to using a cell phone, with some major exceptions. The most notable of these is that it is deliberately easy to tinker with them to get them to use nonstandard frequencies. Only devices set to those frequencies will then be able to pick up comms from them. They can also be made to only have short transmission ranges.
These two options are heavily used by raid gangs, who will almost always set up a "secret frequency" for use during operations. They also use the short-range function just in case the target happens to stumble on the frequency. This keeps their chatter from being audible until they're practically on top of their destination.
A business number will look different from a just regular phone, If you have like a office phone, your phone number will go along the lines of
2A-XX[XXX]X
If your phone is just a regular phone, your number will look like this.
(starting letter depends on first letter of your province) M[X]XXXXX
For Example, A[2]39223
Depending on your area will be the boxed number and the letter will be based on your province, If you live in Mahkdae, it will start with a M.
The General Post Office
TELEPHONE NUMBERING SYSTEM
Local numbers are numbers for calling subscribers connected to the same telephone exchange. They are usually four digits long. Most telephone exchanges have fewer than 1000 subscribers so there is no problem with running out of numbers.
Each telephone exchange has its own code, known as a subscriber-trunk dialing code. By prefixing a local number with the four digit STD code, which is typically omitted for calls to the same exchange, numbers on different exchanges can be called without the use of the operator. STD codes are a form of mnemonic, with each number corresponding to the letter on the dial. For example, Asham, Eamshire has the STD code of EAAS, equivalant to 3227, whilst Peztonleigh, Larkshire has the STD code of LAPZ, or 5279. The postal county forms usually the first letter and the latter two the smaller exchange name. A nought must be first dialled for numbers in this format.
Examples include:
0 EAAS XXXX, Asham, Eamshire.
0 LAQU XXXX, Three Quays, Limmes, Larkshire.
Non-geographic numbers are numbers that can be called at any telephone and do not correspond to a geographical region. Dialling them does not involve dialing first a nought.
    10 XXX XXX: Local rate (1d a call). eg. 1 520 for Langton's Bank.
    11 XXX XXX: Technical Services
    30 XXX XXX: Free calls
    48X XX XXX: Crown services calls.
    50 XXX XXX: Local rate (1d a call)
    60 XXX XXX: National rate (2d a call).
    81 XXX XXX: Premium rate level 1 (3d a call)
    82 XXX XXX: Premium rate level 2 (6d a call)
    83 XXX XXX: Premium rate level 3 (9d a call)
    84 XXX XXX: Premium rate level 4 (1/- a call)
    88 XXX XXX: Premium rate variable charge
0 0 is the normal emergency telephone number. It connects the caller to an operator who will then redirect the call to the appropriate emergency service. Dialling international numbers requires use of the operator, which is accessible by dialling nought.
Every number starts with a 0.
The second and third numbers correspond to the census area, of which there are 48 in Ko-oren. The second and third number are simply the number of the census area, though areas with a number under 10 will have 50 added to them. Simply said, the second and third numbers range from 10 to 48 and from 51 to 59.
The fourth through to the tenth number are free for that census area to give out. Usually, the fourth number cannot be a 0. Usually, if it is a 1, it is a protected service (governmental, educational, medical, police, etc).
XXX-XXX-XXXX
TS employs a three digit area code, followed by seven further digits. Interestingly enough, TS has always used ten digits, ever since the first dialing/number phone came out.
If you are an international caller and wish to dial into TurtleShroom, the format is +770-XXX-XXX-XXXX.
