Savojarna's Sevens Championship
Ejanska sjö, Storevik
The Ejanska sjö in Storevik saw its first highlight on the evening of the first day, when Sydjarlslän and Sumanen Pohjoiseen squared off in the group stage. The match ended 24-24, which would later have great implications. Leaders North Sumanen lost quite clearly against Landsmarks länet, even though the Landsmarkers also profited from multiple lucky bounces. Sydjarlslän stumbled later on the same day, but less clear which would ultimately decide their fate as well as Landsmarks', which secured qualification with that victory. In the final round, Sydjarlslän had to start first, which was a slight disadvantage as the goal difference was going to be decisive. Knowing what was required, SP then pushed the score right until it hit the magic line and qualified on just one goal more in terms of difference. In group B, hosts Ejana pushed themselves over the line with a draw against group winners Jaromirgradskaja and could secure the semifinal qualification one point ahead of Välineet Sumanen, which lost spectacularly to Thorslän in the end. Even worse, the number two of the rankings was also overtaken by Thorslän itself, who would of course also be participating in the Championship's final stop as they would be hosting it.
In the semifinals, Ejana capitalised on its home advantage and beat Landsmarks länet relatively clear with a 24-12 scoreline that was slightly more favourable to LL at first, but turned shortly before the first break when a player of Landsmark was ejected. The other semi provided much more action. Jaromirgradskaja and Sumanen Pohjoiseen never let go of each other, with the leaders from North Sumanen going ahead early but missing their first conversion. Both teams knew and showed that they were playing for the lead in the Sevens Series. SP lost the lead soon after when Jaromirgradskaja went ahead 7-5 and got a penalty to make it 10-5 before the break. After, North Sumanen upped the speed and turned the match again, the score now 12-10 and followed up by another try. In the final minutes of the game, however, the match got a lot tighter again. Only twenty seconds before the end, Jaromirgrad's Viktor Yovchenko missed a conversion that could have equalised this match, but as it was, SP retained the lead and went to the finals. There, they clearly beat hosts Ejana to take their second victory of the season, while Jaromirgradskaja could limit the damage with a 38-0 over LL. Välineet Sumanen clearly beat their rivals from Sumanen Etelä with 31-5 to claim 7th place, while the two disappointing top seeds Nordviken and Bergjarler squared off for 9th, with the better ending for the latter.
Thorsborg Sevens
On the final stop of the tour before the grand finals, the group stage was one big show of leaders Sumanen Pohjoiseen. The Finns won all of their games and got a point difference of +100, their closest match being a 28-21 against Ejana. They were not in danger throughout the whole group stage and managed to easily qualify for the semifinals. Their colleagues from Välineet Sumanen followed them to the semis, thus also claiming their spot in the grand final, losing only to SP and clearly beating all the other teams in their group. As hosts Thorslän only managed the fifth place in their group, their previous qualification for the finals was endangered again, but a failure of Bergjarler to come higher than fourth themselves meant that the threat was eliminated quickly. In group B, favourites Jaromirgradskaja missed out on the semis on only two goals difference. In a three way tie with LL and Sydjarlslän, they could only hold on to third place.
In the semifinals, SP continued their incredibly impressive run by a clean sheet against Landsmarks länet. A 38-0 carried the team to their third final in the fourth tournament, in which they would face their rivals Välineet Sumanen in a rematch of the Savojagrad semifinal. The match for bragging rights went to the South, but now it was Pohjoiseen which had been the team on a run. However, the Southerners showed that they can deal with their rivals, winning this Sumanen Derby as well and winning clearly with 29-7. They were joined on the podium by Sydjarlslän, who are going into their home tournament - the grand finals - with a lot of confidence following three converted and three unconverted tries against LL, winning the match 42-12 thanks to two more goals. Thorslän saved face in front of their home audience with a 36-12 over neighbours Vesterkustslän, meaning that they could secure qualification for the finals as a wildcard team.
