Savojarna's Sevens Championship

Ejanska sjö, Storevik
The Ejanska sjö in Storevik saw its first highlight on the evening of the first day, when Sydjarlslän and Sumanen Pohjoiseen squared off in the group stage. The match ended 24-24, which would later have great implications. Leaders North Sumanen lost quite clearly against Landsmarks länet, even though the Landsmarkers also profited from multiple lucky bounces. Sydjarlslän stumbled later on the same day, but less clear which would ultimately decide their fate as well as Landsmarks', which secured qualification with that victory. In the final round, Sydjarlslän had to start first, which was a slight disadvantage as the goal difference was going to be decisive. Knowing what was required, SP then pushed the score right until it hit the magic line and qualified on just one goal more in terms of difference. In group B, hosts Ejana pushed themselves over the line with a draw against group winners Jaromirgradskaja and could secure the semifinal qualification one point ahead of Välineet Sumanen, which lost spectacularly to Thorslän in the end. Even worse, the number two of the rankings was also overtaken by Thorslän itself, who would of course also be participating in the Championship's final stop as they would be hosting it.
In the semifinals, Ejana capitalised on its home advantage and beat Landsmarks länet relatively clear with a 24-12 scoreline that was slightly more favourable to LL at first, but turned shortly before the first break when a player of Landsmark was ejected. The other semi provided much more action. Jaromirgradskaja and Sumanen Pohjoiseen never let go of each other, with the leaders from North Sumanen going ahead early but missing their first conversion. Both teams knew and showed that they were playing for the lead in the Sevens Series. SP lost the lead soon after when Jaromirgradskaja went ahead 7-5 and got a penalty to make it 10-5 before the break. After, North Sumanen upped the speed and turned the match again, the score now 12-10 and followed up by another try. In the final minutes of the game, however, the match got a lot tighter again. Only twenty seconds before the end, Jaromirgrad's Viktor Yovchenko missed a conversion that could have equalised this match, but as it was, SP retained the lead and went to the finals. There, they clearly beat hosts Ejana to take their second victory of the season, while Jaromirgradskaja could limit the damage with a 38-0 over LL. Välineet Sumanen clearly beat their rivals from Sumanen Etelä with 31-5 to claim 7th place, while the two disappointing top seeds Nordviken and Bergjarler squared off for 9th, with the better ending for the latter.

Thorsborg Sevens

On the final stop of the tour before the grand finals, the group stage was one big show of leaders Sumanen Pohjoiseen. The Finns won all of their games and got a point difference of +100, their closest match being a 28-21 against Ejana. They were not in danger throughout the whole group stage and managed to easily qualify for the semifinals. Their colleagues from Välineet Sumanen followed them to the semis, thus also claiming their spot in the grand final, losing only to SP and clearly beating all the other teams in their group. As hosts Thorslän only managed the fifth place in their group, their previous qualification for the finals was endangered again, but a failure of Bergjarler to come higher than fourth themselves meant that the threat was eliminated quickly. In group B, favourites Jaromirgradskaja missed out on the semis on only two goals difference. In a three way tie with LL and Sydjarlslän, they could only hold on to third place.
In the semifinals, SP continued their incredibly impressive run by a clean sheet against Landsmarks länet. A 38-0 carried the team to their third final in the fourth tournament, in which they would face their rivals Välineet Sumanen in a rematch of the Savojagrad semifinal. The match for bragging rights went to the South, but now it was Pohjoiseen which had been the team on a run. However, the Southerners showed that they can deal with their rivals, winning this Sumanen Derby as well and winning clearly with 29-7. They were joined on the podium by Sydjarlslän, who are going into their home tournament - the grand finals - with a lot of confidence following three converted and three unconverted tries against LL, winning the match 42-12 thanks to two more goals. Thorslän saved face in front of their home audience with a 36-12 over neighbours Vesterkustslän, meaning that they could secure qualification for the finals as a wildcard team.

Tales From The Ministry of Science

At a building nor too tall, nor too small lies a building in a private government-authorized sector within the city in Main Nation Ministry. The amount of guards increased due to the virus outbreak was for the protection of the eggheads, who the public blamed for the outbreak, since there was news of a leak. Now, a puppet democracy was established to get the attention from them, while they attempt to make a cure. Well, only an entire floor was attempting to make one. In the other floors showed stories of mad science in action. For the glory of The Leader. A scientist was surrounded by many chemicals of unknown materials and substances in beakers in all sizes. Mixing some things, there and over there, the scientist gets a pipette, extracting a drop of their finished creation and putting it in a thimble.

"Alright, John. You're to drink this and you're to explain what emotions you're feeling. Understood?" the scientist calmly explained to the prisoner in the testing cell. "Any catches?" the prisoner asked. The scientist shook his head, which was a casual lie. The prisoner drank the drop of liquid, letting it dissolve into his tongue, where the side-effects took control. "Now, John." the scientist got out a picture of a political candidate involved with the puppet democracy. "Do you love this woman?"

"Love? LOVE?! YES! GIMME HERE!" the prisoner went all out for a simple portrait of the woman, as the prisoner snatched it from the hands of the scientist and began to start kissing it, as it was an actual being.

Somewhere on a different floor of the building, a man observed on a table similar to one in an autopsy room, a being that looked like a combination of a mannequin and a man-made metal art creation. "To make something man-made. I must give it. Life! Yes, I need to give it life. Make it alive. Store Idea Log 14." the scientist was recording himself on a recorder, as he looked at his creation in silence.

My overall account that I use for P2TM and even for international roleplaying! MNM is a mysterious and extremely dangerous dictatorship filled with supernatural oddities, demons, militarized soldiers everywhere, and a misanthropic nihilistic dictator who doesn't give a damn. It's basically if the SCP Foundation got mixed with 1984.

Somewhat tired, but yet confident, Lisander aims the top in Savojar International
Catarina Scott, to therugbyzone.ls

Lisanderian team traveled without much fanfare to Sjoedrhavn. The Irises Sevens showed up on Tuesday evening, at the time of the trip, at Albert II airport. Players checked into a local hotel on Wednesday morning and rested until the afternoon, when they did conditioning workout at the on-site gym.

The team made no public appearance before Thursday afternoon, when they went to the Field of the National University of Sjoedrhavn, in the Savojar capital, to train with the ball for the first time, together with Akademisk SK Sjoedrhavn, local team.

After training, in an interview with our team, Patricio Bernauer pointed out that he is doing only light work, after all the players are at the end of the season.

"Lisanderian teams went well in Club Rugby, so some players had very little time to rest. By the same reason, Alice Bay decided not to participate in Savojar International, their team is based in Osea, and Osea has reached the Finals. AB is playing the Imperan Sevens with the Junior team so the stars can rest. I fully understand this, and this is why this time we are getting lighter. That they give their best in the field without pressure, and that is enough so that we can leave Savojarna with one more achievement, which is what everyone wants."

The team is in Group E, and goes into the field on this Friday against Tobiasia, United States of Devonta and Copper Cuprum, seeking to qualify for the Round of 16 of the Savojar People's Trophy, and to narrow the pro-Elejamie gap in the Sevens Series Ranking, which is four points at the moment.*

Marie-France's Guide to Savojarna!
Marie-France Daigle is the host of «Femme du monde», Marianne's most popular travel show.

Mariannois(e) who yearn for the comforts of home when visiting Sjoedrhavn don't have a lot of options, but they can visit Chez Yoshima, Mon Amour, a Mariannoise restaurant in the Docklands started by a woman named Anne-Claudette Yoshima-Drouin who was born in Sjoedrhavn to a mother from Marianne and a father from Gyatso-kai, who met while in pre-revolutionary Marianopolis. Got it? Well, good, because there will be a quiz later.

The restaurant itself prides itself on its' breads and its' egg dishes, along with importing apples local to Marianne that are infrequently available elsewhere in Rushmore. My visit started at the bar for a quick coffee- imported from Torrefacteur Saint-Hubert for a flavour of home. A single is 2 SAK, and for only 50 Öre more you can get a double, although that's twice the size it's not quite as good. Splurge for two singles, it's only a little more than a typical Savojar coffee, and it's better. Hopefully none of the aggro locals take umbrage with that!

After a trip to the bar (where I also got an excellent local beer- the beer and café court being famous back home, nicknamed the "Marianopolis Hello"), I was seated at my table where my chipper waitress recited the specials and then, upon hearing my accent, was very excited. She'd have to tell the chef that a Mariannoise was in the restaurant! After looking at the menu I decided it was necessary to gauge any Mariannoise restaurant on three foods- a Croque Madame, Pâte Alessandrini (RLStates Spaghetti Carbonara) and Pain Avocat. Let me tell you- I was quite impressed! Myself and my party split all three dishes (lest you think I am the type of woman who eats an entire croque madame, bowl of alessandrini and pain avocat after a particularly difficult day of work as a means of staving off the void, no, I've never done that, and am entirely incapable! But I digress...

There are obviously better versions of these dishes at home, and if you trip all the way to Sjoedrhavn perhaps you should try some local fare- (fish? A whole boar that was killed with a warrior dude's bare hands? I am not sure what that is yet) but if you miss home and have 30 SAK, come on in to Chez Yoshima, Mon Amour!

SavojarSports.sj - inside reports from all Savojarna
Top seeded Sumanen Pohjoiseen win Triple S trophy

The Final Eight in Sjoedrhavn took place earlier than usual this year, only one week before the Savojar International Sevens in order to increase domestic attention to the tournament and to promote Savojar rugby sevens abroad. This meant a more packed schedule than usual as the three-week-break between the tournaments in Thorsborg and Sjoedrhavn got cut to only one week and players affiliated with the national team were preparing for the NT's call to arms. Nevertheless, they were out to get one of the most prestigious trophies in Savojar rugby, and the odds were looking good for especially one team. That team was the dominating Sumanen Pohjoiseen, or Northern Sumanen, which is somewhat surprising given the general lack of SP players on the national team. Only Kristjan Niskanen, a Virkaja-based Northern native, made the final cut, but if you ask the people on the streets of Niskylä, that is of course a grave mistake. Their team intended to prove their strength in the Championship, but they would face strong opposition mainly from Välineet Sumanen, the only team to beat them twice throughout the Sevens Series, and the hosts Sydjarlslän.

Both Sumani teams looked good in their first matches, beating the respective lowest seeds of the groups clearly. However, there was a great surprise and disappointment as the host team lost 5-33 to Landsmarks länet in the first match of the tournament. This clear loss in a four-team-group already set them on the defence, meaning that Sydjarlslän would now have a very tough way back into the tournament. All hopes and dreams of the hosts perished in the second match, when they lost to South Sumanen's VII with a humiliating 40-0. The draw between Landsmarks länet and Thorslän meant that the hosts were the first team that was mathematically eliminated, even though Ejana soon joined them by losing to Bergjarler while favourites Sumanen Pohjoiseen could hold their ground against Jaromirgradskaja, despite being down at half time. In group A, the final round saw a direct duel for the semifinals between Jaromirgradskaja and Bergjarler, with the eighth-seeded Bergjarler almost making the cut but losing due to a successful kick by Miranov 1:28 before the end and a tight defence of the Jaromirgraders. In group B, the other Sumanen team also kept their perfect record against Landsmarks länet, thus giving Thorslän a great chance to make it through in the final match against the hosts. However, the team of Sydjarlslän was determined to end the tournament on a positive note and won clearly with 38-14, kicking the previously unranked Thorslän out of the championship.

In the semifinals, both favourites never let any doubt come up about who would go on to the finals. Sumanen Pohjoiseen took a 12-0 lead in the first three minutes and then let up a little bit, but even a Simon Hjalmarsson on fire could not save Landsmarks länet from the loss that was building up. Throughout the whole match, the team repeatedly collapsed as they approached the end of the pitch, and SP carried the game to a very secure 26-14. Välineet Sumanen was not as dominant, even though they also clearly beat Jaromirgradskaja. The Jaromirgraders could get their hands on an early 5-0 lead, but were completely shut out after due to a combination of a strong VS defence and a highly unlucky Jaromirgradskaja side. Two kicks missed the goal very narrowly, and winger Yakov Viranov was brought down only half a metre ahead of the try line before the break. Coupled with a very efficient offence by South Sumanen, the Finns went on to win 22-12 and go on to the finals against their island rivals. They were slightly favoured there as the team had been victorious in the two previous clashes with North Sumanen, but SP wasn't willing to see their efforts thwarted in the final match of the Sevens season of Savojarna. They came out with incredible determination, scoring an early try after only a bit more than a minute and setting the tone with the following conversion. It took South Sumanen almost the entire first half to score, and there was simply no way for them to contest the overly focused and efficient North Sumani team. Niskanen, who scored all three of his conversions as well as two more goals, did his best to earn both the MVP title of the tournament as well as his first Savojar Sevens Series trophy.

Tales From The Ministry of Science

"Idea Log 15. My creation! You must speak! I command you!" the scientist observed his creation, as it sat itself up on the table. "Yes. Yes! Go ahead! SPEAK!" the scientist demanded. "Is....this...world...?", an uncomfortable robotic-like voice erupted from the being. "Yes.. YES!!! This is a world. A world that we live in. I created you, of course! I must introduce you to this world. I can make it your home."

"West! You been wasting data again?" another scientist arrives in the room, where he doesn't seem concerned at the robotic being that is now aware of his presence. "I hadn't been wasting data! I'm using the recorders. Now, do you mind! I need to make my creation be prepared for the world." West explained to the coworker, as the scientist felt the arm of the being. "We can create. A race of something for the use of duty. A soldier. Or what about a carrier. It can be strong. Smart. I can make it the ultimate being!" West said to the scientist, who gotten a flashlight to test the reaction of light of the being.

"Is that what you want? Might, is it? To be mighty. For one to have this power, it would require actual internal working to be aware of a task, as major as you describe."
"But I can-"
"You need to make it fully comply. To have the mind to react. Now, if nothing works, I have a higher up get you at the virus lab." the scientist coldly said, as he walked out of the room. West gripped the tape recorder, before turning to his creation.

Marie-France's Guide to Savojarna!
Marie-France Daigle is the host of «Femme du monde», Marianne's most popular travel show.

Holy shit you guys! I may have buried the lede on my trip to Savojarna. They have DRAGONS here and they're so cool! Today after another trip to Stadion Karl Marx to watch the world's fourth best rugby sevens team earn a draw against the Alpine Union, I took a little sojourn to a DRAGON RESERVATION. How cool is that? It took a little while to get to little island north west of Kjaersholm, which required some small planes and a lot more of that local beer from before to calm the nerves, but when we got there it was totally worth it.

This reservation is mostly for ill dragons, which made it sort of sad in theory. Not unlike visiting an animal shelter, these were dragons who had had a rough life up until that point. Except that how rough can your life be when you can breathe fire?! Like, I can drink Mariannoise coffee and eat our food back home, there are absolutely no dragons anywhere in Marianne. In fact, I thought they were fictional creatures until I saw them in front of me and my god it was so cool!

I'm going to be honest and tell you I don't really recall what the handler lady's name was, but she introduced us to some of the dragons individually. There was one named Niko and my god he was the sweetest little thing, you wouldn't think he was theoretically a brutal fire-breathing killing machine. There was another whose name I didn't catch so I nicknamed him Ti-Dra and he came right up to us and wanted to chill. I think I was told that he couldn't fly very well which is why he had to stay on the reservation. I told Ti-Dra not to listen to these humans and that when I was little my mother told me I could do whatever I wanted, and if he wanted to fly he could absolutely do it!

Anyway, if you're not sold on Savojarna yet, for the love of God there are DRAGONS HERE PLEASE COME AND CHECK IT OUT IT'S SO COOL! I'll post again soon!

Northwest Kalactin proved to be the thorn in Barunia's side, with the Waves opening loss preventing them from qulaifying dirrect to the quarterfinals of the Savojar People's Trophy. Instead the Small Waves will have to fight through a playoff round against Hutanjia. The Hutanjian Spiders are a formidable outfit, but a bad loss to the hosts saw them miss out on direct qualification. The Barunian captain Andrew Mortlock noted that the two teams were evenly ranked, with the Spiders ninth on the current World 7s rankings, with Barunia just below in tenth.

"It will be fast and physical," said Mortlock, "The key will be to win the ball at the breakdown."
Fullback Matilda Roper said that the plan would be to spread the field and to find the gaps to burst through. Roper has already shown her explosive speed this tournament, with three tries.

The Alpine Union draws with Marianne

Sjoedrhavn, Savojarna - (NAP) After surprising Neu Engollon with a 26-14 win, the Alpine Union drew 28-28 with Marianne. Marianne were the first team to score when Amadeus Rubinek-Lapointe escaped at the center of the field to score a try that was easily converted. The Alpine Union replied with a try scored by winger Alasdair MacIlleMhìcheil 2 minutes later. The conversion wasn't as easy, but the Bisons still managed to make it and the score was tied 7-7. Marianne scored two more tries before the end of the 1st half, thanks to Alexy Boulanger and T'xholi'zha J'hoxhi. 30 seconds before the end of the 1st half, Amadeus Rubinek-Lapointe drops the ball and it's taken by Krzysztof Szerszenowicz who passed to Serge Dusautoir who runs away for a try that was converted and the score is 21-14 Marianne at the halftime.

Early in the 2nd half, Philipp Schweinsteiger drop kicks the ball to the sidelines and the referree calls a line out. T'xholi'zha J'hoxhi throws the ball onto the field but Krzysztof Szerszenowicz jumps and takes the ball. Szerszenowicz passed back to Luke Chisholm who passed left to Serge Dusautoir who passed left to Jack Banahan who runs to the end zone for a try and, after the conversion, the game is tied at 21-21! Marianne took the lead with 3 minutes to go when Didier St-Cyr scored a try and the score was 28-21 Marianne. The Alpine Union didn't say their last word and, with only one minute left, Philipp Schweinsteiger takes a loose ball and passed to Serge Dusautoir who passed to Raghallaigh Ó Conghalaigh who escape to the end zone for a try. The conversion is good and the game is tied at 28-28!

The Alpine Union finishes the preliminary round in 2nd place in group C with 7 points and barely qualify for the partial octofinals. The Bisons (seed #12) will face Northwest Kalactin (5th seed) and the winner will advance to the octofinals!

Savojar International Sevens: Lisander ends first day with unexpected defeat, and will play Round of 16 Qualifiers
In a day marked by unexpected results at Karl Marx Stadium, the Irises Sevens won two of its three games.

It wasn't enough to win the game and the pool.
Savojarna International Sevens is running in Karl Marx Stadium, Sjoedrhavn. And Lisander had a long day this Friday! Early in the morning, a convincing win against Tobiasia lifted the expectations, with the fast game working like a clock. The unranked side had no luck against Irises, 29-3. The second game, in the afternoon, opposed Lisander and United States of Devonta. The wear of the season was starting to appear was a very close game, with Lisander winning by a Try, 24-19. For the third game, against Copper Cuprum, Bernauer sent a part-reserve team and was surprised. The newly-dressed in black and white Copperite team faced a mix of tired and cold players and surprised the Irises with their first defeat of the tournament, 19-33. Some lisanderian fans blamed the apathy of the team, who ignored completely the ritual of chicken sacrifice, made by the Copperite team before the game.

"You know, they should have answered the challenge, and not ignore it. Okay, they're a bunch of wackos, and killing chickens on the field is gross. But this is a rugby ritual, like native war dances or hearing the national anthem. Maybe giving a stare, or forming a line, some design on the field... They shouldn't have ignored."

Lisander will return to Karl Marx Stadium next morning, to face New South Munster team in Round of 16 Qualifier Match. Nothing less than a victory is expected, if they want to keep the dream of winning the Sevens Series.

Marie-France's Guide to Savojarna!
Marie-France Daigle is the host of «Femme du monde», Marianne's most popular travel show.

After my exciting trip to the dragon reservation, I felt it was time to return to the city and perhaps watch some more rugby. I'm not sure rugby is my favourite sport, but the men sure are handsome. I watched the Marianne team earn a draw against the Alpine Union. Some of the talk around town was about how the Marianne team, which has done extremely well thusfar, hadn't actually earned its' success and that this event was a joke- there were a lot of disappointed fans from other teams. From my point of view, it seems like the Marianne team was hungry and wanted to work hard and all those empty platitudes people say about overperforming sports teams. Sports isn't really my thing, to be honest. I'm here because Radio-Marianne sent me here!

However, I can relate to being hungry, and I can relate to working hard, so I headed back to Sjoedrhavn to a restaurant called Osterbarren for some local food, which, canonically I had not tried yet. I started out with some local style coffee, which was pretty good- a strong drip coffee, apparently always black, so as to reinforce the overwhelming toxic masculinity of the local populace. I read in the in-flight magazine that Savojars drink a lot of coffee, but being Mariannoise I didn't think twice about this. Still, it is true, they drink a lot of coffee, and since their coffee drinks are bigger than ours (not better, mind you...) it is a lot of fluid, so be prepared!

For dinner I wound up getting a very nice grilled fish with a side of hot berries. I drank a local stout which was very much to my taste. The fish was flaky and fresh and was lightly but well seasoned. Apparently the grill they use is a wood burning grill and they are very specific about the wood they use- the chef told us all about it but to be honest, I zoned out a little bit. Regardless, it was all very good, and the hot berries were an unexpected treat. I give Osterbarren 4 stars!

A Quick Group F Roundup
Dave Carrey - Sjoedrhavn, Savojarna

So that was something, wasn't it? Neu Engollon and Abanhfleft collapsing in the group stage, the hosts blitzing their competition and Lisander failing to make it out of the partial octofinals and having to compete for the Sjoedrhavn Shield. Yes, it's been a strange competition. Too strange for some people, in fact, but I'm not going to get involved. The only thing I will say is that the R7WC qualification table would look a bit weird after this tournament but I'm sure it's a weirdness we could get used to. Either way, I'm going to give you a quick run down of each of our group stage games, followed by who'll be playing against who in the Savojar People's Trophy and the Sjoedrhavn Shield. Mostly because I want to get this done and dusted before the next round of games. So apologies for nothing in-depth but I'm kind of rushing myself here, I completely lost track of the time and I didn't want to leave you all hanging. Hence the lack of pictures and no analysis of the other group stages. So let's begin.

So our first game. The one against Kitts and Nevis. For a new team, they didn't do so badly. They scored first, thanks to a try from Elvin Chambers and a conversion from Kerensa Peters. However, they didn't have the lead for long as David Kramer would shortly equalise sometime after, with Toda also converted. Three minutes later, Mical Caerofim would score a try of his own, also converted by Toda, to make it 14-7, which would remain the score going into the break. Toda would score a converted try of his own shortly after the second half started, with Somerby Middleton putting the away side back in it; however Peters was unable to convert it. Eventually, in the dying seconds, Kramer would score his second try, making his way past the opposing side's defence before slamming the ball down between the posts. Toda would score his fourth conversion to give his side the 28-12 win. Not bad.

What's next? The game against New South Munster. We got off to a quick start, with Paul Koppel scoring a try for us shortly after the match started. I had it down at 20 seconds between kick-off and try, if anyone's wondering, although I reckon it's much quicker. Impressive but slightly let down by the fact that Toda was unable to convert. No worries, he'd go on to score a try of his own about a minute later, which he converted to make it 12-0. Simon Murray was quick to bring the hosts back into it with a try of his own and, thanks to a conversion from Ronan O'Donnell, the score was now 12-7. Fortunately, we managed to push ahead to make it 19-7 before half-time, thanks to a second try from Koppel and another conversion from Toda. The second half got off to a very bad start for us thanks to Marcus Ruiz getting a yellow card for a particularly bad tackle on Niall Sweetnam. Fortunately for his side, Sweetnam didn't seem to be too shaken up by it, as he'd go on to score a try for his side, also converted by O'Donnell, to bring them back to within three. Fortunately for our side, that would be the last try they'd score and, to borrow an ice hockey term, we killed off the penalty. Besides, ten minutes into the match, Adam McCracken would put us back out in front, with Toda extending the lead thanks to a conversion. Indeed, Toda would score another try of his own shortly afterwards, although he was sadly unable to convert it. No matter, a 31-14 win's good enough.

And let's round things off with a recap against Filindostan. Surprisingly, they were the ones to score first; I wasn't sure who scored it or who converted it but, either way, we were in a right panic after that. Fortunately, it wore off and, two minutes into the half Toda scored our first set of points; a try, followed by a conversion to level the score. He'd score a second one shortly after but, due to where he grounded the ball, he was unable to convert. No matter, he'd go on to make up for it with a spectacular penalty. And another penalty shortly afterwards, where the ball looked like it was going to bounce off but, instead, it scraped the post as it went in between them. And, just before half-time, Mical Caerofim would go on to score a drop goal to give us a 21-7 lead at the break. Patrick Hayden came on during the break and would score try number three for us about a minute into the second half, with Toda nailing the conversion shortly afterwards. Indeed, Toda would score a penalty for us, with the ball going through the posts dead on in the 10th minute. With a minute left to go and no need to run up the clock, we scored our fourth and final try, with Caerofim just able to ground the ball despite the opposition trying their hardest not to let him. With Toda converting it, we killed off time and, when the final whistle blew, we were the 38-7 victors.

So who'll be playing for the Sjoedrhavn Shield? The four partial octofinal losers as well as the four best third-placers. But who are those teams? Well it'll be Northwest Kalactin vs Nevis and Kitts; Lisander will try and regain some dignity as they play Lochario (a team my autocorrect kept putting as Lothario); Hutanjia will take on Devonta; and, last but not least, Darmen will be up against Nova Anglicana. Whereas the Savojar People's Trophy will be made up of the group winners and the partial octofinal winners. You've got the hosts vs the Alpine Union; you've got Copper Cuprum playing New South Munster; you've got Marianne, a newcomer who did extremely well in what seemed to be a tough group for them, facing a possibly bigger challenge in the Main Nation Ministry; and, most importantly, Coach Kim's boys play the Small Waves. Yes, I'm aware the Elejamie-Barunia game is the penultimate SPT quarter-final but, hey, you can't blame me for wanting to make a little drama.

OK, now I've said my piece, I shall be off to catch the quarter-finals. Will we see more high-scoring action and shock defeats? Or will the planets unalign and normality's restored? Who knows? Either way, here's hoping you'll be able to enjoy some quality rugby. I know I'll be. Dave out.

Tales From The Ministry of Science

Our scientist held on to the organ carrier, as he tried to make sure that no one noticed him (well, being noticed by most of the hidden security cameras) delivering a human heart to his creation in his lab. His newest addition was the makeshift batting cage, which had a lone baseball on the pedestal. He began the transplant of the organ to the being. It was a success. A complete success, as he inserted it in, like a circle peg in a circle hole. Then, making sure the being was aware, he had it wake up. "My creation! I have know back with a piece of one of the human body's internal organs. Now, come! Come here!", the scientist had the being stand and led it to the batting cage.

"You see the ball. Here is a bat. It's like making a home video. You just gotta hit the ball with a good swing!", the scientist demanded. Then, in an answer that the scientist didn't expect, it said this. "But why?" "Why? Why?! Because, imagine the good you would do. You can become a baseball player. You can hit any ball by the pitcher! You can be a sports star!"

"But..", the creation intentionally dropped the bat to the ground. "I don't want to hurt my opponent. If I make him lose, would I make him feel ashamed?" "WHAT?! I created you and you fail to comply?! Of what heresy has overwhelmed you?"
"It's not heresy. I'm just want to be a being of empathy. Not might."

"AGHHH!!", the scientist immediately lost it and picked up the bat, smashing it directly at the head of the being. When it reached the ground, he kept hitting. And hitting. And hitting..

"Well, it's good to have a new product for the public to have, don't you agree?", a scientist was examining a product newly made by a man who now hates empathy. "I got to say, I like the concept. Hang on, let it on again.", the scientist sat down and let the electric razor rise from the table like a snake, shaving the beard of the scientist, while it hovered above the ground. "I must say. We need some safety checks, there and here, but you can always join the consumer product branch.", the scientist suggested to the other scientist, as he said calmly and coldly,

"You know? I think it's best I helped out the nation. I wish to do resigning to the virus lab."

The lisanderian rugby started today in grief. Eduardo Vins, younger brother of LRU president, Andreas Vins, passed away last night at age 39. He was in coma since last december, when suffered a motorcycle accident in Santa Maria Bridge, Soria. The older Vins left Savojarna at night and isn't with the team, who lost against New South Munster early in the morning and defeated Lochario in the afternoon, for Sjoedrhavn Shield. Since today, Irises are wearing a black stripe over the crest in the jersey. For the next match, against Nevis and Kitts, Lisander will keep the stripe, but rumours say they can wear Victorian Rugby shirts if they reach the final of the lower tournament of SIS.

“...AVRU has put in an official inquiry to the NSRB, but as of yet, they are not ready to submit a protest, pending more internal debate and investigation regarding the horribly skewed results of the Savojar International Sevens.”

“From what I understand, Magda, it stems mostly from questionable officiating calls on the pitch.”

“That, Karl, and the quality of the pitch itself. It should be noted that the officials were neither Mariannois, which wouldn’t even be allowed, considering that first match was being played by the Mariannois national team, nor Savojar, the hosts, so it is a bit of stretch on that account.”

“Yes, the NSRB match officials were led by Natanian Ion Mihai Constantinescu as head referree, and Tomurean Jug Wattz at the TMO helm, neither of whom have had any controversy in the NSRB for their officiating up to this point. Which brings me back to my original point…”

“That it’s the quality of the Goats themselves, yes...Remember, a lot of the top ranked teams got swept from trophy contention in this tournament, though. Not just Neu Engollon.”

“I’m just talking about the Goats, right now. Yes, many of the greats have retired this past year, it’s almost a whole new team, although a lot of the starters were Goats reservists over the past couple years. We have a new assistant coach in former player Jean Semmes. This was his debut international match in that job.”

“I love Jean…”

“Let’s not get into that...”

“Stop it! You know what I mean.”

“Anyway, Jean Semmes, while one of the greatest Neu Engollian players to have graced the pitch, may not have seen that translate over to the managerial side. He just might not be quite up to national coaching potential...yet. He probably needed to continue learning his chops with the Gargoyles, where he took over from retiring coach Nolan Deneuve this year.”

“Let’s stop picking on Jean, who’s assistant, by the way. Rolf Mertzen is the head coach and he theoretically should have the experience. It’s just a raw new team, in many aspects. We have new players who just started their professional careers, mid-career players who aren’t used to being relied on so heavily, and a loss of a whole slew of veterans who hung up their cleats...They haven’t been together with this starting lineup long enough to really find their groove, and with a perfect storm of mishaps, it all fell apart this first trial tournament out on the pitch.”

“You realize that denies the ability of the Mariannois national team? They did play exceptionally well out there…”

“They capitalized on Goats errors, like any good squad should...”

Harry Nepedku clicked off the hotel room television and turned to face his teammates.
“Why are we watching Neu Engollian satellite TV again? The Goats are out of this, we don’t have to worry about them.”

Jean Luc Terepka tried to scoot around Harry to turn it back on, without success.
“Because...That could be us. This has been a weird tournament so far. A lot of upsets.”

A few of the team sat on the beds and floor, icing sore muscles or stretching after the close match they’d had today against the Devontans.

Vlad Sokota added,
“Well, we made it through okay. We could’ve lost it to Devonta today.”

Jean Luc was insistent.
“Also, next year, a lot of our vets are retiring too, like a lot of the famous Goats players. What are we gonna do then?”

“That’s next year, this is this year. Let’s just focus on what we can do.”
Harry pointed to the room door.
“Let’s get out and blow off a little steam. Yours all anxiousness is making me anxious too. We have a big match against Darmen tomorrow. They’re good, we need to be better. Right now though, we need to not overthink this. Stop watching NETV, too. That shit is garbage.”
He looked around as no one moved.
“Come on! Let’s go get some pizza or something!”

That got them moving.

Yes, I'm sort of iRPing residual Neu Engollon stuff. Also to be noted, I really didn't want to RP with the Hutanjian patois accent, I'm trying to move away from that.

The Cause

It all started with one call. A call that an infected man was seen at a forest sector near the one that was quarantined. Naturally, several squads were dispatched with a bio hazard control unit to set up perimeters around the new quarantine zone. Now that area could be compared to a giant bubble sticking to the ground. Entering, wearing biohazard suits and carrying assault rifles, a captain led his squad to what was presumed to be the latest whereabouts of the infected. "Be careful. Even with these suits on. Don't let the prime target infect you. We are arriving the suspected area."

The area was a single one-story house home to a Mr. Grant Malloy. Malloy was previously had multiple charges which he served after several pieces of literature written by banned authors were in his profession. "Ready to breach! Now!", a soldier kicked down the door, as guns were pointed to the interior of the house.

"Bedroom clear!"
"Bathroom clear!"
"Kitchen is clear!"

The only place that wasn't checked was the basement, as a set of stairs led downwards. "Get ready. Don't make any noise." the captain said, as the squad slowly walked downstairs into the basement. The door leading to the room was suspiciously unlocked. A soldier slowly opened the door, where a disturbing sight was visible. The walls at the end of the room had visible spores of some kind. Grant, the owner of the house looked like a mutating corpse as what looked like flowers were growing inside of him. He only ushered several words before collapsing in front of the squad.

"Don't touch the flowers..."

The adjective is Savojar; Savojarnan is not a word!

Lisander and Hutanjia will make the final of the Sjoedrhavn Trophy
This time we are not favourites. Retrospect is 3-1 for Polynesians
Tiago Dons, to therugbyzone.ls

Some time has passed since I last felt this emotion. I was in Darmen, broadcasting the third-place match of the RWC26 with Catarina Scott. Lisander against Nova Anglicana. That game was a shiver. I felt like we were finally making a world-class game. And today I feel it can happen again. I wanna believe Lisander can win again, against the Hutanjians.

Our retrospect against Hutanjia, a very strong team from Polynesia Wishton, is negative, especially in Rugby Sevens. In three games, three defeats. The first meeting, in Port Louis Sevens, two and a half years ago, ended with a 14-38. Then came a 7-31 in the AVBF Sevens 2. And finally, the last and perhaps most painful defeat at the URSA Sevens, in front 23,000 spectators at Soria Park, a 21-33 that would have been reasonably avenged the last time the two nations met, in Round 16 of RWC26 in Darmen. At Lyons Stadium, Lisander won 13-3.

But still does not mean much. This game is going to be really unpredictable. It's all in the feet and hands of this team. Will Lasses, Castell and co. be able to defeat the team of Tarepka and Apegku? Or shall we stand on the way yet again?

New South Munster players celebrating Darren Conway's try in the final seconds of the semi-final against Savojarna

New South Munster continues it's rise in the rugby world in sparkling form and have now reached the final of an NSRB Sevens Series event for the first time, at only their third time of asking. The meteoric rise, while notable to those outside the country for representing the growth of a plucky newcomer to the international scene, is more in line with the belief at home that New South Munster is a 'sleeping giant' of the sport. Such lofty expectations, which some would call hubris, often comes with the territory of a national sport tying in with national identity. However, the young New South Munster sevens squad are making great strides to avoid those pitfalls and establish themselves as a force in the locally dubbed, "small code."

The Savojar Sevens could well be seen as the pay off for a lot of good work put in by the team so far. Since the debut outing in the AVBF Rugby Sevens in Neu Engollon, New South Munster have been putting in solid performances across the board. A determined showing in the group stages that saw them pull of two wins out of the five matches set the squad on the road to a bowl final. While this is the lowest rung of the trophy scale in the sevens events, the performance was nonetheless impressive as the team went on a run of three victories to see of traditional powers Mattijana, Apox and Darmen respectively. The final was lost to Bvriania, but a solid foundation had been built for the URSA Sevens in Lisander.

The URSA Sevens was a tournament of two halves for the New South Munster team. What kicked off with a disastrous group stage run of 4 opening losses ended in the team going one step further than the previous round. The final game day saw them turn things around and deny Copper Cuprum of a place in the cup quarterfinals with a surprise 35-7 victory. This moment proved pivotal in giving New South Munster momentum going into the bowl quarter final. New South Munster beginning to show a talent for knock-out rugby, completing a clean sweep of victories against Greater Vakolicci Haven, Al Qurija and Filindostan to lift their first piece of silverware in the series.

Already on a high from the strong showing in Lisander, Dave Holland and his men came into the Savojar International Sevens tournament with expectation of graduating from the bowl tournaments to the trophy. They picked up where they left off with a rematch of the URSA Bowl final against Filindostan, a fixture that many are already branding as a rivalry. The record stood square at 1 win apiece from the last tournament. The final scoreboard showed signs of the closeness of the sides, but in truth, the gap was larger than the 20-14 scoreline made it out to be. Tries from Holland, Goggin and a double from Sweetnam were all unconverted, leaving what could have been a 14 point gap at a nerve wracking 6. Such errors leaving New South Munster to lose after such a dominant performance were the main point to take away from the match.
Match two saw the Munster men on the other side of a beating. While the radar was fixed on the drop kicks, adding the four points in extras to the tries from Murray and Sweetnam wasn't enough to make up for the defense shipping 5 tries to the powerhouses of Elejamie. Final score, 31-14, leaving New South Munster with a winner takes all showdown with Nevis and Kitts for a place in the partial octofinals.
As New South Munster continue to do, they saved their best rugby in the pool stages for the last match. The Munster men wracked up half of their pool stage points in the final match in a culmination of all their learning points from the last two matches. The kicking was accurate, the defense solid and the attack impressive. Sweetnam continued his scoring run with a try, along with 4 more from O'Shea, Wootton, Hanrahan and Archer. The 33-7 win booking New South Munster a much deserved life line to the trophy.

New South Munster's penchant for knock-out rugby came to the fore again in the partial octo-finals. A huge fixture with Lisander set the stage for one of the biggest upsets of the tournament. The Irises, as expected were strong favourites. But New South Munster showed that heart and determination count for a lot when coupled with momentum in the small code. The reds came out flying and added another 5 tries to the tally. O'Byrne crossed three times to get his first hat-trick for New South Munster, with tries from Murray and Goggin either side of them. Speedster Christian Alte got the Irises only score of the game off the bench, scorching the earth to run the length of the pitch without anyone close to getting a finger on him. A historic 33-7 victory marked New South Munster's entry to the final eight of a top tier competition.
The quarter final fixture saw New South Munster square off against Copper Cuprum. Despite the concession of two early tries in the first half, captain Dave Holland got a score at the end of the half to steady the ship, trailing 12-5 at the break. The breakthrough score proved to be decisive, as New South Munster went on to run in 28 more points, conceding only 5, to win 33-17. A landmark victory with a muted celebration as the New South Munster squad looked forward to a cup semi-final against hosts Savojarna.

The setting Savojar sun set the scene for the second of the trophy semi-finals. A place in the final against Barunia the prize for either side. The Savojar crowd were in full voice, looking to cheer their side on to the big dance. The few of the New South Munster faithful gathered in the corner did the best they could to sing the anthem above the noise. The match played out largely like New South Munster's first. The red's opened the scoring through O'Byrne before a reply from Savojarna's Kristjan Niskanen to make it 7 all. New South Munster added the next two scores, converting both to stretch their lead to 21-7 with 3 and a half minutes left on the clock. The hosts, not to go down without a fight, scored a second with 30 seconds left on the clock when Jacob Bengtsson dived over out wide. The conversion attempt tailed just outside the near post and left Savojarna 9 points adrift with scant little time left. After the buzzer, Darren Conway sweetened the deal for the Munster men, stepping his opposite man to run through the heart of the Savojar defense to race to the corner just out of the reach of Harald Akeson. Jubilant scenes followed as the New South Munster team piled in.
The celebrations were wild as the travelling faithful, coaching staff and players alike shared the realisation that they had made the cup final against all odds. The only thing standing in their way of a trophy title on the series circuit is a strong Barunia team, buoyed by their teams success in the latest Rugby World Cup. Both sides have a similar record in the competition having come second in their groups and progressing from the partial-octo finals. Barunia arguably having come through the tougher side of the draw having to play Hutanjia and Elejamie before squaring off with Main Nation Ministry in the semi-final. In the quarter and semi finals, Barunia showed serious grit to hang on to narrow leads against powerful opposition. New South Munster will therefore be hoping they aren't on the wrong side of the scoreline coming into the final minutes against a team so adept at defending their lead. Also importantly for New South Munster is to show the same impressive defense they did against Lisander. Barunia have flexed their attacking muscle against some very good sides in the competition and scored 90 points in the pool stage, the most of any team not to win their pool. All in all, it points to an exciting climax to an impressive campaign from New South Munster; a clash between two closely ranked sides in the series ladder. A chance for one to propel themselves towards the top.
