Whitney Snyder, Aka Cinder
Whitney was the next one to walk up to the Mr. Smith to get her room. "Snyder," she told the man flippantly. Her first impressions of the instructors were the guy giving the speech had a rod up his ass, the headmaster was dopey, Wall was a rebel tough girl, Weinkauf was an Artist, and Mr. Smith was one of those old guys who tried to act "hip".
"Ah, Ms. Snyder. You are in Room 2."
"Thanks," Whitney said as she slipped in her earbuds and moved through the house, climbing up the stairs to her room. When she opened the door she saw her roommate was already there. "Aw rats!" She lightheartedly exclaimed. "I thought I was going to have the first pick." She giggled and moved over to the empty side of the room. "I'm Whitney," she said with a smile as she started opening her suitcase and transferring its contents to the nearby dresser.

Great. The coyote was staring at her and looking defensive, that was just what she needed. Not. She just put her hands in the air in a gesture that said she wasn’t doing anything wrong. “Good boy,” she said towards the coyote, and then the owner woke up. Hopefully she had good control over the thing. Jess relaxed a bit when she said something, because at least she was awake to do something in the event that Chahałhee decided to come after her for whatever reason.
“The name’s Jess. Jess Margaryan. Well, it’s actually Jessamyn, but the people that are close to me just call me Jess. You can call me whatever you want… Jess, Jessie, Jessamyn, Jessa-meen, I’ve heard all of it,” she said, getting over her nervousness and settling into her usual quick speaking tone. She was usually snarky or rude with people that she just met, but since she had to share a room with Mary, she decided that it was better to be friendly. She also didn’t want to risk getting her face clawed off in the middle of the night, so that was a factor in her decision to not find something snaky to say.
“That’s a nice… Dog you have there,” she added, not sure how to say the name correctly. “I take it we’ll be decent friends unless… Well, unless you’re not good at finding humor in the little things. Just don’t rat on me, kay?”

“A coyote spirit, eh? Always thought of myself as a lion. But some things made me rethink that, so maybe you’re right,” Jess said, moving back to her bag and looking through her things. She only really had a backpack, with just a couple of changes of clothes and some other things that she brought from home, like her laptop and her notebook and pencils. She also had her pistol there, but she didn’t take that out for now. It would seem strange to carry around when she was with her future allies, even if she did feel a bit unsafe when it wasn’t somewhere on her body, just because she didn’t have the kind of powers that she could protect herself with.
“Swimwear? Oh, no. I’m from pretty far north, there’s not really any beaches and it gets cold, so I don’t actually have any,” she shrugged, but then she chuckled to herself and smirked. “Not like I need to wear anything to swim, anyway. I’m sure the boys would like it if I didn’t… And a few of the girls, maybe,” she added, and after making the remark, she eyed up Mary and the bikini as if she was imagining what she looked like in it. And then she broke the eye contact after making her point, turning on her heel as she picked up her backpack and moved to put her clothes away.
“I uh… My power is kind of hard to explain, but long story short, it helps me know things. I can read a lot of really subtle information that most people miss. But I have to touch something to get info from it. And for objects, I can also read their history for the past couple of days. Really boring shit, I know. My dad is a speedster but my sister ended up with that power, not me,” she sighed.

"Haha, nah, that's alright. I don't care either way about the room, I'm just glad they aren't cramped." The room was a decent size, putting her dorm from her short stint in college to shame. It wasn't massive, but it left both girls with more than enough room for their stuff.
"I'm guessing you're passionate about music? Or at least passionate about your hatred of country. I'm not a fan of it myself, but I do have a broad taste." Whitney finished unpacking her clothes and turned her attention to a desk, presumably her's based on its location. She pulled out a laptop and plugged it into it would have a full battery when she needed it. More or less finished with moving in, she jumped on the bed, causing her to bounce up and down for a minute. "Hmm, not bad."
"So you're from Edmonton? That's in Canada, right? I'm from Kilkenny, Ireland. What are you in for?" She asked Molly, turning to look at her new roommate. "I do this..." Whitney clapped her hands together and a small pop of fire and smoke went off like a small firecracker as her powers ignited some dust and dead skin.

Jess looked on awkwardly for a bit as Mary put on her bikini, eventually looking away from her and making sure all her things were put away before throwing her bag on her bed and shrugging. She considered saying something about the bikini, but she bit down on her tongue. Don’t offend your new roommate less than an hour after meeting them, she told herself. Not that it was her intent, but people reacted in different things and she still didn’t know if her new friend was as cool as her last best friend.
“Not everyone gets to do the exciting stuff, I guess. I’m only here right now because of that, otherwise I would be down in New York City or somewhere like that, working with big shot heroes and drinking with celebrities or something. I don’t know. I don’t know what the hell Mariam is up to these days, but it’s what she makes it sound like,” Jess said, getting a bit off track. “Sorry. That’s my sister’s name. Mariam. Me and her aren’t really on speaking terms, but that’s another story.”
She took Mary’s hand and followed her to the pool, and while she didn’t have any swimwear, she decided to improvise and make do with what she did have. She shed her leather jacket to reveal a white tank top, and then dropped her jeans. She’d just jump into the pool with the underwear she had on right now, it wasn’t like anyone would notice the difference once she was in the water. “I’m going to be honest. I don’t really have a clue how to swim. I’m not going to tell everyone that, though…”

The Cyberiad Council wrote:"Students, welcome to the Novum Saeculum Academy. I am Edwin Holland, and I will be one of your instructors during your time here. I am sure you all recognize the man to my left; Your Headmaster Willam Nantz, better known as Paladin." The Headmaster gave a friendly smile and wave, but let Grey continue the welcome. "To my right is John Smith who you can go to at any time with any concern you may face during your time here, and standing next to Mr. Nantz we have Richard Weinkauf, also known as The Artisan, and Aubry Wall. They teach matters including combat preparedness, and combat training respectively. And to my far left, you have Mr. and Mrs. Gross. Mr. Gross is our resident doctor, and Mrs. Gross can repair anything you take to her."
"We, of course, have a set of rules you will be expected to keep in mind at all times. Most of them are common sense: don't injure classmates or damage school property, maintain reasonable dress etiquette, don't skip instruction periods, and don't disobey the Staff. That last rule can save your life, especially with the unique risks you will be exposed to. For the complete list of rules, you can refer to your student handbook waiting for you in your rooms. You have been paired up with a roommate, and your rooms are listed on the sheet Mr. Smith is holding." John held up the piece of paper in question.
"For today, all you are expected to do is become acquainted with your classmates and the Academy grounds. Feel free to explore, but I hope you are hungry; Mr. Nantz will be firing up the grill in the backyard next to the pool area for a welcome cookout. We have high expectations for you all. You represent the future heroes of the world. If you give this school your full effort, we guarantee you we can prepare you for the trials you will face. On behalf of Mr. Nantz and the rest of the Staff: Welcome to the Novum Saeculum Academy!"
