The Freehold of Ephyra occupies a very large amount of territory, is multi-ethnic, multi-religious, and as a result has quite a broad and diverse array of peoples who are predisposed to hating and fighting one another, even prior to Ephyral conquest of those areas. Therefore Ephyra must maintain cultural hegemony of the Ephyral people over all others in their attempts to keep the Freehold secure.

In terms of ethnicity, 32% of the total population of 320,000,000, as of the latest census, are ethnic Ephyral. The Ephyral ethnic group, itself a variant of the European white race, are the founding people of the Freehold and for whom the nation is named. They hold political hegemony, dominating the Senate, and with most of these eligible to cast votes through the Assemblies also being ethnically Ephyral. It is the culture of the Ephyral people descended from the city-state of Ephyry, from which the rest of the people of the heartland of Lakaeronia took their name after the unification, that dominates in the Freehold today, despite making up less than one-third of their expansive empire's population.

7% of the population are Armenian. Armenians are amongst the first peoples conquered and assimilated into the Freehold, and as such are almost culturally indistinct from the Ephyral people, varying only by religion.

2% of the population are what are known as Kānācīhy. This is a demonym for the people of the Ephyral provinces of West and East Caucasia, and though best translated as Caucasian, are not referred to as such due to the implication of Caucasian meaning the white race, which these people are a part of but not the mass of.

13% of the population are non-Ephyral European peoples, divided into Slavic, Germanic, and Roman, of which there are 4%, 4%, and 5% of the total population respectively. The Slavic population was added through conquest. The Germanic primarily through immigration, but also through wars, enslavement, and later emancipation. The Romans through simply existing as a minority in the region when Ephyra achieved independence from the Roman Empire.

35% of the population are Arabs, making up the largest group. These vary from Tunisian to Iraqi Arabs, and are internally as divided as the Freehold is itself. There remains high tensions between the Arab peoples and other peoples of the Freehold due to conflict of faith as well as historic war.

3% are Afro-Arabs, whom were conquered alongside their Arabic masters.

4% are what the Ephyral consider 'Lower African', or rather, Congoid sub-Saharans. All of these people in the Freehold are enslaved.

Ephyra remains largely segregated in its ethnic mix-up. The heartland of Lacaeronia and the colonia that are permitted to vote within the Assemblies maintain a dominant white population, primarily Ephyral, but also other Europeans, who are readily accepted if they integrate. Arabs dominate the eastern and southern portion of the Freehold, but are less concentrated in urban areas, with much of their population in smaller settlements or living in rural regions. Areas where Europeans and Arabs are known to come into contact are regarded as dangerous, and often have higher crime rates.

Religiously, some 33% of the population adhere to Ephyral polytheism. Interestingly, not every Ephyral adheres to this faith, and a number of non-Ephyral do. It is the second-largest religion in the Freehold, regardless of whether one counts Sunni as its own faith, or combines Sunni and Sh'ia into Islam. It is a polytheistic and pagan religion, and has often been the cause for religiously-motivated attacks against Ephyral by Christians, Muslims, Jews, and other groups, with accusations of 'promiscuous' and 'false worship'. Because of their religion's composure, the Ephyral are by-and-large tolerant of other faiths, yet remain ironfisted culturally due to the animosity against them as foreign pagan conquerors. Anyone is allowed to practice their religion in the Freehold, but they are prohibited from preaching violence or conflict against other groups, nor are they protected from religious criticism. Religious law is not accepted within any part of the Freehold, and those operating it are prosecuted. Worship, and certain religious rites are permitted. Circumcision of males or female genital mutilation is strictly outlawed.

Some 13.4% of the population are a denomination of Christian. Of the three Abrhamaic faiths it is in the least conflict with the Ephyral due to the non-religious nature of their wars, and integration of its people, regardless if they converted to Ephyral faith or not. The Coptic Christian population is known to have seen the Ephyral, and their religiously indifferent policies, as being liberators from their oppressors, be they Jewish, Zoroastrian, or Muslim, and their faith is unofficially favoured by the Ephyral.

37.2% of the population is Sunni Muslim, and a further 9% are Shi'a. As these are sub-divided into numerous sects, often more at war with one another (wars that the Freehold doesn't fully discourage), the fact that Islam outnumbers almost all of the other religions put together is offset by its internal feuding.

5% of the population are Jewish, primarily Mizrahi Jewish. There is little of note to their faith within Ephyral society.

Zoroastrianism forms 0.05%, Yazidi 0.2%, Buddhism another 0.05%, nonreligious form 1.5%, and 0.6% of the population claim to be of another faith.

Despite Ephyral tolerance policies, there are growing religious conflicts between various groups, particularly in the eastern regions of the Freehold's empire, with auxiliaries of the Freehold Defence Forces moving to engage religious radicals, primarily Sunni Muslims, routinely.
