5 things Palestine, imo, must do before independence:
1. Renounce violence. This goes for Fatah/PLO and Hamas.
2. Reinstate Palestine wide elections and abide by the results.
3. Commit to ending rocket attacks by breakaway/rival groups within Gaza/WB against Israel.
4. Produce a viable plan for the formation of an official Palestinian Army, government and diplomatic corps.
5. Return to the negotiating table.

I will add a proviso on No. 3 in that it'd be difficult to do, especially when Israel has a habit of using a lull in the fighting to play off the two sides against each other.

Israel, of course, must commit to ending settlement building within East Jerusalem and the West Bank. It says something about all sides in this conflict that, in 1999, with 42% of WB directly administered by the PLO, talks began between the PLO and Israel on the subject of full administrative powers of the 'occupied' territories being transferred from Israel to the PLO. That was 12 long years ago.

Israel has been building on a Palestinian State which defies the prospect of a 2 State solution.

America has never been an honest broker in the ME and the Palestinians and Arabs as a whole should stop giving the US the role of a mediator and platform.

A One State solution won't work for Israel.

Israel's far right even concede in recognizing Palestinian identity is imperative so that they don't absorb a Palestinian population in the event of a One State solution.

Israel is doing itself no favour by paving the way for a One State because you'll have a situation where most Palestinians will live under the State of Israel with different laws which amounts to apartheid. Israel will lose support and the Palestinian issue will turn into a civil rights one which Palestinians will ultimately be victors, meaning Israel will have to absorb Palestinians rendering a Jewish State with a huge Muslim population.

I feel that since both Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs are genetically related , and have long standing ties to the land , something like the Engagement Plan might be the best solution http://the-engagement.org/?page_id=16%20. But I also like the approach of the old Ihud party .
