WESTBRÜCKEN, WERANIA - Otto von Hößlin has been elected as the leader of the Modern Centre party with 101 of PMZ's 167 MP's voting for the EC commissioner to succeed long serving Wittmann Chancellor following the latter's resignation.

The breakdown of the results was that 101 MP's (60.48%) voted for von Hößlin whilst 47 (28.14%) voted for Alexander Oberländer and 19 (11.38%) for Melanie Althammer.

In his acceptance speech von Hößlin said he would continue the successful policies of the current government whilst ushering in "changes to how we do things...we need to be less self serving, less self congratulatory as a government and more bullish on how we can improve the lives of Weranian people and become the government not of the status quo but of change".

Von Hößlin's election was received positively by outgoing prime minister Wittmann who called von Hößlin one of the "most competent politicians of his generation" and the man "best equipped to lead Werania in these times".

Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Oberhauser similarly gave praise to von Hößlin saying he hopes that PMZ and its coalition partner the Cooperative Party can ensure "stable, progressive governance for Werania".

Opposition leader Rainier Lautenbach however has called for a new election saying von Hößlin has "no mandate to govern".

Von Hößlin's will inherit a stable economy from his predecessor whilst having to deal with tensions within the coalition government over whether austerity should be continued or not. Von Hößlin will also have to deal with the current situation regarding Euclean sanctions over Etruria.

Von Hößlin is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister on the 4th April.

OPINION - WE CAN STILL STOP AN OCCHETTO DICTATORSHIP
This weeks legislative elections present an opportunity to deny Occhetto the majority he needs to govern alone

AQUINAS, MARIRANA - The first few months of Lorenzo Occhetto's presidency have been both a radical break from the norm and a continuation of the status quo. On the one hand, Occhetto has completely redrawn the entire political system, appointed a terrorist as prime minister, insulted the press, sought to negotiate with terrorist and cartel groups and broken bread with the populist regime in Etruria whilst sharing few kind words with Asteria.

On the other hand the redistributive policies, nationalisations, constitutional changes and "clean break" with the Federation promised by the Occhetto campaign have not been realised. Some have taken this as a sign that Occhetto's bark is worse than his bite and that an Occhetto presidency will broadly follow the same paradigm as his predecessors with support for an open society, free markets and a pro-eastern foreign policy.

Such a view is dangerously naive.

Occhetto's so-called moderation in his first few months is less due to a sense of pragmatism and compromise by the president but due to his lack of legislative majority. Occhetto's Avanti Marirana coalition only has 23 Senators and 83 Councillors, meaning it is short of a majority must less the "qualified majority" needed to change the constitution. Occhetto cannot pass the majority of his legislation without a majority in bot houses and due to his abrasive style has not bothered reaching out across the aisle.

This means that this legislative election will be all important for the Occhetto government. The three main coalitions - the far-left Avanti Marirana, centrist Coalition for Democratic Action and centre-right Popular Force 2018 - are set to take all the seats with AM leading with the CPLD and FP 2018 at roughly the same level of support.

However, an Avanti Marirana victory is not inevitable. Although Avanti Marirana bar a miracle will take the most seats a majority is not a given for them, especially if the CPLD and FP 2018 work together. If the opposition assemble a majority they have the opportunity to form a government and place Occhetto into a state of "cohabitation" with the government.

In cohabitation Occhetto's more dictatorial features will be curbed as he would relegated to defence and foreign affairs. Whilst he would undoubtedly do great damage in those areas - especially in foreign affairs where he seeks to place Marirana outside the free world - his contempt for the free press and democratic institutions and economic incompetence would not take effect as a centre-right government would ensure the continuation of the current system.

Only if the opposition work together can we stop an Occhetto dictatorship. Mariranans must fight against the left at this election if we are to keep the nation we love.

BREAKING: First Citizen Carcaterra orders snap election in wake of EC sanctions
Election date penned for 25th April, with the Tribvne Movement seeking fresh mandate in wake of EC sanctions

First Citizen Francesco Carcaterra has called a snap-election in wake of the Euclean Community’s sanction package being implemented. Speaking in a live televised address he said, “the only way this government can be certain of the people’s support for our endeavour to improve Etruria, is to secure a mandate.” The Federal Electoral Commission has confirmed the request for the vote to be held on the 23rd April. In his address, First Citizen Carcaterra confirmed that the retaliatory measures have taken effect.
Image
Francesco Carcaterra officially called for a snap election in a televised address.

In his televised address the First Citizen said, “It is a sad day when the EC punishes a sovereign nation, let alone one, not within its boundaries, for pursuing its own aims, objectives and the pursuit of a prosperous future.”

“We must now present ourselves to the people, we must be assured that we maintain your trust and faith. In light of the hostile act against our great nation, we must be reinforced by a renewed commitment by you, to trust us in our endeavour to honour promises and reform our nation to greatness” he said.

“Because our need to be assured that you stand with us, I have officially requested that both speakers of the two chambers of the Senate to formally dissolve it, bringing an election forward. We do not do this lightly, we understand that this would be a second election in as many years, but it is necessary, to show the EC and the hostile nations within it, that the Etrurian people are not cowed by bullying” he said further.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Electoral Commission confirmed that the election was to take place, saying, “the Federal Electoral Commission has been authorised to confirm on behalf of the Senate of the Federation, that it has been dissolved and an election will take place.

“The election will take place on the 25th April, exactly four weeks from now. All regulations and rules in place for snap elections will be enforced” she said.

President Alexis Whittaker oversaw the vote in the Euclean Parliament and now is leading efforts to implement them.

Despite passing, there was clear opposition from sovereignist and nation-state focused parties, however, Euclocrats and globalist parties backed the sanctions carrying it over the majority threshold.

Foreign Minister Adriano Vinci decried the passing saying, “this marks a dark day for the EC, once a force for peace in Euclea now stands as a force against sovereignty and the right to national self-determination. The EC does not hold the right to issue diktats to non-members, it has no right to infringe upon the internal affairs of Euclean nations. This is a mark of imperial overreach and it will not be tolerated by this government.”

Over 8,000 people marched against the EC in a festive protest in Vicalvi this morning, with thousands chanting slogans against Whittaker, Florena and Glytter.

Prominent Tribune, Ricardo Massini led chants against Glytter calling it, the “isle of homosexuals and isle of conmen.”

While Secretary of the Tribune Movement, Vittoria Vasca called it the “foul vengeance of Sodom and Gomorrah upon righteous Etruria. This is an attack on our dignity as a nation, this is an attack on Solarian spirit and we will respond.”

She was addressing people at the march outside the Palazzo Orsini, where she confronted pro-EC hecklers, one of which called her a “Social-State throwback”, in reference to the ten-year national-functionalist regime.

She replied, “I’d rather be that a soulless robot in service to a corrupt and undemocratic superstate.”

With an electoral campaign officially beginning tomorrow, the polls are showing a powerful start for the governing Tribvne Movement.

According to the last poll by VoxPopuli, the Tribvnes are on 49.9%, followed by the Citizens’ Alliance on 29.6%. The establishment, Federalists and Socialists are wollowing at 2.2% and 1.7% respectively. Should these polls remain static until election day, the Tribvnes and Citizens would see dramatic increases to their vote shares, while the two establishment parties would be effectively destroyed.

Tiberio Fini, a senior political analyst at Quadra Economics said, “continued exodus of voters from the socialists to the Tribvnes and centre-right voters from the Federalists to the Citizens is continuing unabated. The new situation with the EC will only exacerbate the growing divide. With working-class voters, who majority are anti-EC going to the Tribvnes and pro-EC middle-class voters going to the Citizens.

“However, we still see a mixed picture with the middle-class with still a significant number going to the Tribvnes, especially over their promised tax and business reforms” he said.

First Citizen Carcaterra remains one of the most popular leaders in Etruria, with his personal ratings showing 53% approval rating, with a 40% disapproval rating, the remainder declaring don’t know. This is down from 56% two months ago.

Vittoria Vetra, the leader of the Citizens’ Alliance however, fares less better, with a 41% approval rating and 54% disapproval rating. Many voters cited her poor and aggressive response to the Judicial Reform Act and her role in the violent protests that broke out in its aftermath.

A poll by Voce showed that public support of EC membership has dramatically fallen, with only 36% supporting membership in the future, down from 44% two months ago. A second question asked whether they viewed the EC as “hostile toward Etruria”, 48% agreed while 40% disagreed, with the remainder saying don’t know.

We will be providing special coverage of the election, offering readers in-depth analysis, on-the-street discussion and debate and studying the manifestos of all parties.

EX-FOREIGN MINISTER CRITICIZES GOVERNMENT RESPONSE TO GROWING ETRURIAN CRISIS
Frank Casarnach expressed concerns that the government was enabling the Etrurians further through its punitive approach.

Frank Casarnach served as Foreign Minister from 2014-2017 and was sacked by Taoiseach O'Reilly following the June elections.

SPÁLGLEANN – Frank Casarnach has called the Glytteronian Government’s handling of growing tensions between the Euclean Community and Etruria “astonishingly foolish”.

The ex-Foreign Minister, who was sacked by the Taoiseach following the June 2017 general election, accused the government of “enabling Etrurian autocrats”.

“The blank check [the O’Reilly Government] has given to the vengeful and punitive bureaucrats in Kesselbourg only helps the Tribunes. They claim their nation is under siege by the EC, and while that is far from the, EC overreach and encroachment upon Etrurian sovereignty seems to be convincing the Etrurian people that the myth purported by the Tribunes is true”.

“Of particular concern to me is these damned elections” Mr. Casarnach said, referencing the snap elections called by Etrurian First Citizen Francesco Carcaterra.

“The EC will attack them as undemocratic, and in some ways they are. But they are damned elections. Nothing said by unelected bureaucrats in Kesselbourg will change that”.

Mr. Carcaterra announced the snap elections, which are set for 25 April, in the wake of EC sanctions. The sanctions, which were implemented by the Euclean Commission last week, target high ranking Etrurian officials who were involved in the country’s recent controversial judicial reform. Mr. Carcaterra is among those sanctioned.

He said it would be more productive for the EC to “focus on its own agenda” than to “meddle in [Etrurian] domestic affairs” any further.

“There is opportunity, a great opportunity, for the EC elsewhere. The past must be allowed to remain the past, and Euclea must look to the future” he said.

Mr. Casarnach offered support for President Walker, praising her efforts to expand trade ties with Hyndana as a “step in the right direction”.

“We need more of that and less talk of Etruria”.

The ex-Foreign Minister has been a vocal critic of the Taoiseach, criticizing what he has repeatedly labeled “reckless” and “uninformed” foreign policy decisions.

He is the only prominent member of the Liberty Party to publicly speak out against Mr. O’Reilly. The two have had a strained relationship since Mr. Casarach was sacked in June. The two go into a public dispute over the Taoiseach’s plan for immigration reform, known as the Immigration Reform Act. Mr. Casarach, who leads the conservative Margadh Coinbhinsiún, and his group of twenty two Flowerite TCs came out against the IRA, preventing the government from securing the majority needed to pass the legislation.

Mr. O’Reilly negotiated a deal with the Social Democrats which allowed the IRA to pass, angering Mr. Casarnach. He accused the Taoiseach of “betraying the party” by working with the SDs.

A spokesperson for Loveland House declined to comment on the ex-minister’s criticism, saying it was “not relevant enough to address”.

Notoriously outspoken, Mr. Casarnach has maintained a relatively low profile since the immigration spat. He has mainly rebuked the Taoiseach on controversial foreign policy decisions, such as the Farsi chemical weapons deal.

FIRST, AS TRAGEDY; SECOND, AS FARCE
Carcattera is far from Caviglia reborn, but the resemblances between the two continue to grow; and they are striking.

Floren partisans dig in during the Solarian War, 1943, colourised.

Panorma, Florena -

To the moneyed bureaucrats in Kesselbourg, Etruria is no threat.

Threatening, perhaps, but not a real threat. The assumption that the Euclean project would or could be defeated by the very forces that inadvertently created it - Etrurian reactionaries - is a false one.

So then, Etruria is neither a threat to their livelihoods, nor their dream. So, to these moneyed men, the Etrurian crisis is nothing more than a political game.

Yet the people of the Transmuntanya, of Oscana, of Vall Verd, of Bokela and of all Florena have not forgotten the events that unfolded the last time a reactionary regime took root in Etruria.

We honest few know the threat that Etruria poses; not to Kesselbourg Euclocrats, but to Oscana Vintners, to Vall Verd Labourers and to Bokela Fishermen.

The Etrurian crisis is about more than economics; it is about more than politics; it is about more than diplomacy. For the Floren nation, it is about survival.

For yet again, the gentile Etrurian labourer has been coaxed into a false sense of ethnic ultra-nationalism by a charismatic despot of highborn breed.

As free workers, it is our duty to awaken the Vespasian, Carinthian and Novalian toilers from their political slumber; to awaken within them their class consciousness, to bring an end to centuries of false enmity.

We must not allow the corrupt and undemocratic elections in Etruria to go unnoticed. We must not allow the Tribune Movement to justify their tyranny with a skewed election.

Further, we must not allow our voice and message to be diluted by the Euclean Community's diktat.

President Walker may languish in her ivory tower for the duration of this crisis, for she and the other Euclocrats are not at threat. But we, the Floren nation, and they, the Etrurian toilers, are.

We cannot ignore Etruria to look elsewhere, for this crisis is the great crisis of our age!

To simply look elsewhere and ignore it would not only be a mistake, but would spell the downfall of us all.

We must continue to expose Carcattera and his regime for what it is; a thinly veiled attempt to rebirth the hateful functionalist regime of Caviglia.

We must continue to counter the argument that the Tribunes know what's best for Etruria, by pointing out their hypocrisy and hate wherever it rears it's ugly head.

And we must continue to prepare for the worst, should we not be able to awaken the Etrurian masses from their enchantment.

With this foreknowledge, it is imperative that we do not forget the lessons of our elders. That we proudly stand on the Etrurian border, as sons and daughters of liberty, and exclaim "never yet again!".

Eyðbiǫrn Brú Announces Resignation
Secretary of State for the Euclean Community to resign, cites “disagreements over the ‘Etrurian Crisis’” as reasoning

Former Secretary of State for the EC Brú shown talking with EC President Alexis Walker earlier this week.

Kesselbourg City - In a shock move, Secretary of State for the Euclean Community Eyðbiǫrn Brú announced his resignation from the post, effective immediately. The resignation comes at the height of the so-called “Etrurian Crisis.”

News of the resignation has shocked officials both at home and in the Euclean Community, most of which had taken the silence of Her Royal Majesty’s Government on the on-going constitutional crisis to mean passive agreement with the general stance of the Euclean Council.

Brú’s resignation sheds light on Norday’s stance on Etruria and further exacerbates the divided approach of the Euclean Community on handling Etruria’s democratic backsliding that was first made evident last week.

In the letter, Brú cited several instances where he and other members of the Euclean Council disagreed on several policy issues being undertaken by the Euclean Community against Etruria.

When reached out for comment, Brú said there was a “fundamental disagreement between myself, the Euclean Council, Euclean Community, and Her Royal Majesty’s Government.”

“As an independent nation outside the Euclean Community, the Etrurian government – which was elected, mind you – is constitutionally well within their right to do as they see fit with their government. Sanctioning a fully independent nation over domestic affairs sets a dangerous precedent and makes you question how much the 2016 Referendum and a chance for vengeance is fueling these sanctions.”

No statement has been issued yet by the Office of the Lawspeaker, nor has a response been given when Fréttablaðið reached out to them for a comment.

A replacement for Brú has not yet been named. The favourite and expected replacement for the post is Foreign Secretary Týra Rǫnne, who has been serving as Foreign Secretary since 2013.

AQUILA, AQUILA -
Today in the Cathedral of St. John in the city of Aquila, Princess Rýkka de la Gardie of Norday and Prince Linus de Aquila of Aquila were married together in the sight of God and man. Princess Rýkka is the youngest sister of High Queen Gweyth I of Norday; Prince Linus is the first-cousin of King Gregorius XXXIII of Aquila, the son of Prince Paulus de Aquila, the uncle of King Gregorius as well as Constabularius (Chief General) of the Kingdom. The two met at the Midwinter's Gala in Norday in December of 2015, and were formally announced as a couple at a formal event in July 2016. Prince Linus studied foreign affairs and politics at the University of Aquila, and began his career in diplomacy soon afterwards, being appointed a junior Ambassador to Norday in 2015. Princess Rýkka attended the University of Harwike studying creative writing, and received a B.A in Writing and Journalism in 2017.

The ceremony itself was solemn. Although Cardinal Pius of Aquila and the other Aquilian Bishops were in present, Prince Linus specifically requested that his mentor, Father Michael Gianno, celebrate the Mass. Before the Nuptial Mass began, however, the Rite of Marriage came first. Father Gianno led the couple in the exchange of vows. After pledging their consent, both, using the traditional formula, said that they would take the spouse "to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part." After this, Father Gianno blessed the rings, and after the rings were exchanged, Father blessed the newlywed couple. With this accomplished, the Nuptial Mass began.

The Mass proceeded normally, with the exception that the Gloria and the Creed were omitted. The music was traditional Gregorian Chant, simple yet. After the Epistle from St. Paul's letter to the Ephesians and Gospel from St. Matthew were read, Fr. Gianno gave a homily on the nature and the beauty of marriage, saying that "God created men and women as complementary" and that "strong marriages are need to transform society, and raising good children will result in a better society", as well as explaining the meaning of the readings, especially the controversial Epistle. He also mentioned various stories about his time as mentor to Prince Linus, and wished the couple a happy and blessed marriage. After this, the Mass continued to its conclusion. After the Mass, a formal reception was held in St. Gregorius's Palace.

Despite concerns by some Aquilians, that Princess Rykka was not Catholic (being a member of the Church of Norday), and some Nordane concerns in the firm Catholicism of the Prince, both families sanctioned the marriage, hoping that by it both countries could continue to have amicable relations. As agreed to prior the marriage by both families as well as the couple, all children born to the marriage would be raised in the Catholic Faith, and that the Princess would relinquish her Nordane titles and forfeit her place of succession.

There were many notable guests, including King Gregorius XXXIII, High Queen Gweyth I, the royal families of both countries, other royals, nobles, and dignitaries. At the close of the reception, the Archbishop of Aquila, Cardinal Pius, and also Pius's uncle, gave the final blessing. "May God Bless this Marriage, make it fruitful, abundant and happy. Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary, and Saint Joseph, her most Chaste Spouse, may God Bless you in the Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Rep. Vittoria Vasari tells Tribvnes that the government will criminalise "Solarian War Crimes" claims
Secretary of the Tribvne Movement says "its only right to shut down those who would spread foreign-made lies about our country."

Secretary of the Tribvne Movement, Vittoria Vasari has indicated that should the party be re-elected it will criminalise claims that Etruria committed “war crimes” during the Solarian War. Addressing sitting Tribvne politicians she said, “it is only right, that as we progress toward restoring Etrurian pride, that we shut down those who would undermine that with vicious and foreign originated lies about our country.”
Image
Vittoria Vasari was addressing the Tribvne senate group when she made the proposal.

Vittoria Vasari, who also sits in the Chamber of Representatives told her party’s representatives from both houses of the Senate, that the current mood in Florena was to “delegitimise and slander Etruria in the EC, they want to demonise us so that the fanatic bureaucrats can attack us” she said. Referencing a series of cultural attacks on Etruria in Florena, she told party colleagues, “we need to be wary of Floren propaganda being used to distract their people and the EC from the truth.”

She raised the prospect of criminalising what others in the party have called “unpatriotic revisionism”, telling the audience, “as our party once again promises the Etrurian people to restore pride in our country. It is only right, that we progress toward restoring Etrurian pride, that we shut down those who would undermine that with vicious and foreign originated lies about our country.”

“We need to shut down all those academics that lap up the foreign stories and myths and stop them from spreading falsehoods about our ancestors and our great country” she said.

The Tribvne Movement proposed such a move in 2016 during the election. The establishment demonised the TM for arguing that supposed massacres such as the “Massacre of Boscarda” in 1942, in which Floren ideologues claim the National Republican Army executed up to 3,500 civilians due to partisan activity, is grossly exaggerated for propaganda purposes.

During the election, Francesco Carcaterra told a party rally, “we are beset by salacious lies about our country. Florena is in inescapable decline and to make up for this, they’ve constructed a whole falsehood of being a victim of a murderous Etrurian regime. Our country has never engaged in such barbarism, we’re beyond that as a cultured people.” His comments sparked wide-spread condemnation from the globalist establishment, which denounced him as an “apologist.”

Senior Tribvne State Councillor, Ricardo Tucci caused greater upset when he told Orrizonte-24 last year, "these stories of Etrurian bands raping and pillaging poor Florena are insulting. Though if true, no doubt there would be some sort of deserved retribution for Floren terrorists and partisans who would do worse to our soldiers. Scalping, disembowelment, beheading, all sorts. What they lie about, if true, is hardly as bad as the atrocities they committed."

In her meeting Representative Vasari also said, “what we’re seeing in Florena is an EC backed and approved culture war against Etruria. The Florens appear to be fabricating lies to antagonise their people against Etruria, we need to be ready for this.”

She later repeated a prominent government message, “this is all very sad, just because we voted no to membership of the EC, that does not mean we can’t co-exist. They’ve made that happen, they’ve come out to punish us. We need to protect our people from EC retribution in any way can, including protecting our nation’s history from Floren lies.”

Vittoria Vasari has been a prominent activist in the campaign to halt the acceptance of Floren, Deneren, Farsi and Asafi claims of war crimes. She successfully led to changes of the teaching material used at the Solarian University for Historical Studies, after it began teaching students about massacres between 2006 and 2009. Her grandfather, Enrico Tullio Vasari was a prominent general in the National Republican Army and a official in the Etrurian Social State, he led the NRA in several major victories against the Florens in the early months of the Solarian War.

According to government sources, several key members of the cabinet support Representative Vasari. Interior Minister Tullio Quagliariello, Foreign Minister Adriano Leonardo Vinci, Education Minister Elisabetta Riolo and Culture Minister Claudio Schifano, are all reportedly lobbying First Citizen Carcaterra to accept the proposal as a manifesto pledge.

The opposition have already pounced on the suggestion, with Citizens’ Alliance deputy leader, Božidar Špišić called the proposal a “utterly transparent far-right idea, that panders to the tiny extremist clique that props up this government.”

While the Federalist Party’s foreign affairs spokesman, Mario Antonucci called the suggestion a “dangerous move, that will only exacerbate growing divides between Etruria and the EC, but more specifically Florena.”

The response on social media to the proposal has been more positive, with up to 150,000 people using the hashtag, #DifenderelaVerità. One person wrote, “about time we shut up the liberal and Etruria-hating academics”, while another wrote, “we’ve waited decades for a government to love this country enough to silence those who hate it.”

The meeting of the TM’s senate group comes as the Senate dissolves for the snap election dated 23rd April. The TM is apparently on the verge of producing its manifesto, which according to sources is dominated by a renewed commitment to yet unfulfilled promises made in 2016, while new promises of further tax reform, increased state investment in the rural regions and improved services is being included.

The CA is reportedly seeking to focus on the government’s supposed “slide toward dictatorship”, and is making extensive use of EC produced stories.

FLOREN AMBASSADOR IN POVEGLIA TO BE RECALLED IF ETRURIAN GOVERNMENT "BLATANTLY DENIES PAST CRIMES"
The statement comes from the Floren government following the announcement that, if reelected, the Tribunes would criminalise claims of Etrurian war-crimes during the Solarian War.

Darios Xamena, foreign minister, announced the government's intention following remarks from the Tribune movement's secretary.

Demora, Florena -

Darios Xamena, foreign minister under the Escudero administration, has hit back at Tribune politicians, following claims that, if reelected, they would "criminalise" claims of war crimes committed by Etruria during the Solarian War.

Addressing assembled members of the press in a hastily assembled press conference, the foreign minister announced that "if the Etrurian government were to begin to deny accepted, well-document [historical facts], then there would be no need for the Floren government to continue meaningful communications". The foreign minister went on to explain that the Floren government would maintain relations with Etruria via the Euclean Community under any circumstance, but that a combination of security concerns, "diplomatic futility" and popular opinion would force the government to recall their own ambassador, in the event that they went through with the criminalisation.

The ambassador to Etruria herself, Irene Laia Bové, has come out in support of the move. After the press conference, she defended the comments of the foreign minister, claiming "the situation on the ground here [...] is terrifying" and that "the atmosphere, the anti-Floren hysteria, it reminds me of stories about 1941". She continued to explain that she had been verbally assaulted on multiple occasions by the Etrurian staff of the embassy.

When a member of the press accused the minister of "hawkism", he hit back, claiming "hawkism is not cutting ties with an aggressive nation; hawkism is denying confirmed crimes committed in a war of aggression".

This is not the first time a member of the Floren government has been accused of hawkism; Sjáfar Winblad, Associate Professor of Internal Relations at the Royal College at Lofoten, accused the Floren government of hawksim a few days ago, and further similar claims have been made by other Euclean individuals, such as Glytteronian Foreign Minister Robert Kean. Floren ministers of the Democratic Socialist Party, in response to what they described as a "heavy-handed" approach to the crisis under the Escudero administration, also criticised leading members of the government for perceived hawkism.

Ambròs Maurel, incumbent President of Mil·lenáris Socialistes and guest columnist, instead made the argument that Florena's position in Euclea and confrontational history with Etruria is responsible for what other individuals may perceive as hawkism; "to [...] Kesselbourg, Etruria is no threat" he noted, but that "for the Floren nation, it is about survival".

Other government ministers, and Escudero herself, have denied claims of "hawkism", and made contrary claims that other Euclean politicians were displaying a "lackluster performance" in dealing with the Etrurian crisis.

Academics, both from Florena and abroad, have joined the foreign minister in criticising the Etrurian government for what they describe as historical revisionism. "There is clear, tangible and widely-accepted evidence that Etrurian forces committed widespread war crimes during the Solarian War, in Florena and beyond" said Adrienne de Cordonnier, a Gaullican professor of history at the University of Demora.

"The denial of this evidence is politically motivated; there are no [legitimate academics] who maintain the view that Etruria was innocent of war-crimes. Only those under the payroll of the Etrurian government seem to hold such a view" another history professor, Sebastià Juanals of the University of Lanta, examined.

Following the announcement, intense support and opposition for the move came from both sides of the debate. Many backed the foreign minister, with the hashtag "#CapNovaHistòria" trending across Floren-speaking social media, with one user commenting "Etruria's slide into dictatorship is in full swing; they're already rewriting history!". On the flip side, many saw the move in a negative light. One user noted that it was "an unnecessary escalation" of the crisis, while another exclaimed that "we can't build bridges by burning them".

The approval rating of Escudero slightly dipped, from 40% to 39%, following the announcement; following a pattern of decline linked to her "inexperienced" handling of the crisis.

The move by the government, already considered brash by many in the Euclean Community, is certain to have reverberations at the Euclean Convention in Rýmařov, which is scheduled to take place from the 13th to 16th of April.

EXCLUSIVE: WOMAN CLAIMS SHE WAS "BULLIED OUT OF HER ABORTION" BY RELIGIOUS HEALTH OFFICIALS.

Verlois, Gaullica -

A woman has come forward in the rural town of Plazanet in Assonarie claiming that the religious attache of the Sisters of Charity at the Saint Denis hospital 'bullied her' out of her abortion. Despite coming forward last week, the event in question occurred in late October last year.

Keeping anonymity; she came forward to the local police station and filed a claim of abuse and mistreatment, in addition to violating Gaullica's secular constitution; a denial of proper healthcare. She claimed that she had fallen pregnant inadvertently, keeping the details of how it happened to a minimum, but explained that she sought the religious and ethical advice from the Sister's attache, who "pride themselves" in offering "consolation and help in these difficult decisions, whatever you decide."

Seeking help for her decision, the woman explained to the police that she sought out a shoulder and to make use of their services. However, whilst she was expecting assistance in the form of counselling and religious advice, she has claimed that the Sisters did not do this, but instead preyed on "[her] weaknesses" and chastised her for the decision. The woman said that: "They told me what I was doing was wrong, immoral and sinful, and that I should never seek to undergo this course of action - regardless of the circumstances of my child's conception."

"I was led to believe that they were going to help me go through this difficult but ultimately necessary decision, in my mind. But its not, I was bullied and chastised out of what I sought to do with my body; and I was told I'd be outcasted by the community if I did what I sought to do. I don't know if I'm the only one this has happened to; b-but it was wrong, immoral of them to do that humiliation to me."

When asked about her child now by the police, it was said that the child was put up for adoption due to a "plethora of circumstances."

The hospital has yet to comment on this; whereas the Religious Order has outlined that "Our sisters would never undergo such a heinous act of dehumanisation. We pride ourselves on helping - and any advice against an abortion would not have been undergone so tactlessly and brutally."

Etruria threatens to recall Ambassador from Florena over provocations
Foreign Minister Vinci threatens to recall ambassador, saying "From the very beginning Florena has been nothing but provocative, aggressive and highly destructive."

Foreign Minister Adriano Leonardo Vinci has officially threatened to recall the Etrurian ambassador from Florena following the country’s threat to do the same earlier tonight. Florena’s decision is apparently rooted in a policy suggestion by Representative Vittoria Vasari, claiming that it cannot "if the Etrurian government were to begin to deny accepted, well-document [historical facts], then there would be no need for the Floren government to continue meaningful communications".
Image
Foreign Minister Vinci has denounced Florena's constant provocations against Etruria

Foreign Minister Vinci at a press conference said, “from the very beginning of this unfortunate crisis of trust with the Euclean Community, Florena has been at the heart of the former’s efforts. From the very beginning Florena has been nothing but provocative, aggressive and highly destructive.

“Their latest effort to utterly demolish relations between our two nations is to threaten the removal of the last line of communication between our governments. They do so over a mere suggestion, they do so through hysteria. They're actions are deeply concerning, over a matter of weeks they have quiet literally endangered stability in southern Euclea. As repeatedly stated by this government, we seek good relations with all Euclean nations, but this is being undermined by an extremist government in Demora.

"Should Escudero authorise the recall, we will have no choice but do the same. We cannot work with a government so hell-bent on destabilising Southern Euclea for domestic political reasons” he told reporters.

Floren Ambassador to Etruria, Irene Laia Bové is reportedly to be highly receptive of the threat.

The Senatorial Committee for Foreign Affairs has been called for a special out-of-senate session to discuss the current decline in bi-lateral relations with Florena.

Chairman of the SCFA, Matteo Mazini (CA) told reporters outside his home, “it is highly regrettable that we are witnessing the complete collapse of relations with our Floren neighbours. However, as I am sure many expect to appropriate blame upon the Carcaterra administration, I will not do so. While I disagree with the government on many issues, I do accept that blame mostly rests with Florena.”

Asked this meant a complete rupture in relations between Etruria and Florena, Foreign Minister Vinci said, “I do not see in any capacity, chances for improvement. The only way relations would improve is if there is a dramatic change in Florena’s attitude, perhaps only a change of government would produce that. The government under Rosa Escudero is showing nothing but contempt for the Etrurian Federation, unless she goes, there will be no change.”

Secretary of the Tribvne Movement, Vittoria Vasari defended her comments telling reporters at another event, “Florena is becoming ever detached from reality, their scaremongering over Etruria is reaching ridiculous levels. I fully support for the government’s decision to recall our ambassador should they do so first, we’ve not had effective communication with them for years.

“I think it best that we abandon our efforts to maintain discord and peace with Florena, they’re proving utterly incomprehensible” she said.

First Citizen Carcaterra spoke to reporters quickly before entering a meeting with the heads of the three constituent states and the autonomous regions at the Palazzo Ciano in Vicalvi, saying, “we have sought good ties with all neighbours since 2016, but they are not intent on the same. Florena’s actions are becoming more and more extremist and destructive. Responsibility for the breakdown rests with Escudero alone.”

The Committee for State Affairs; the name of the First Citizens’ meeting, released a statement saying, “all constituent states and federal autonomous regions stand resolutely behind the federal government’s decision to threaten reciprocation. All federal entities of the Etrurian nation stand as one against Floren provocation and irresponsibility.”

More as the story develops.

THE ASHCOMBE GLOBE
Online Edition | 8 April 2018

FOREIGN SECY DENOUNCES FLOREN RESPONSE TO PROPOSED ETRURIAN BILL AS 'HYSTERIA'

Image
Secretary for Foreign Affairs Anne Buckett
said Floren officials were "overreacting".

ASHCOMBE- The Foreign Secretary has criticized the Floren government for its reaction to a proposal in Etruria that would criminalize claims that the Etruria committed war crimes in its campaigns against its neighboring states in the Solarian War.

At a press conference held today, the Secretary for Foreign Affairs denounced the Floren government for "unwarranted provocation" of the Etrurian government, warning that similar actions in the future would be "most counter-productive".

She decried the reaction as "hysteria" with the intent of "winning over popular support for government whose popularity has taken a nosedive".

The Tribune Movement's secretary, Vittoria Vasari, proposed that criminalizing claims that Etruria committed war crimes during the Solarian War is added to the party's manifesto. Etruria is currently undergoing snap elections in the wake of EC sanctions targeting top officials in retaliation for recent judicial reform, which has been decried by the Euclean Community and many international observers. Ms. Vasari enjoys the support of a number of top party and government officials. Her grandfather was a general during the war who oversaw Etrurian operations in Florena.

Florena has threatened to withdraw its ambassador from Etruria should such a proposal be introduced.

"Despite the claims of Etrurian officials and the actions of Floren officials, the Euclean Community remains committed to finding a lasting solution to our outstanding tensions with Poveglia. If [Premier] Escudero does not wish to be a part of that process, perhaps she should submit her resignation".

Ms. Buckett's remarks stirred controversy domestically and within the EC for implying the head of a member state should step aside. A spokesman for the Foreign Office played down the controversy as a "distraction from the issues" and declined to comment.

However, the top foreign policy advisory for the Democratic Labourer's Party, Alfred Nobles, labeled Ms. Buckett's comments as "grossly undiplomatic and unfair".

"Estmere should be standing in solidarity with the EC, not obstructing it" he said.

A statement released by the Prime Minister supported the Foreign Secretary. In the statement, Mr. Richardson seemingly agreed that the Floren government was overreacting, saying Floren officials were "too high strung".

Further divisions within the EC have been revealed following the remarks, as the gap between the coalition of Gaullica, Florena, Glytter, and Ruttland and the pairing of Estmere and Werania continues to widen as to how to proceed with Etruria.

The issue is expected to dominate the upcoming Euclean Conference in Rýmařov. EC President Walker has indicated she would like the body to come up with a cohesive response to Etruria, hoping to avoid the public division that has played out recently.

The Euclean Convention will take place from 13-16 April in Rýmařov this coming weekend.

RICHARDSON TO STAND FIRM AT EUCLEAN CONFERENCE, WYVILL SAYS

ASHCOMBE - Percy Wyvill has indicated that the Prime Minister will be "unrelentingly rational" at the upcoming conference in Rýmařov.

"Prime Minister Richardson will be a voice of reason throughout the Rýmařov Conference and will work with our Euclean partners to ensure that a sensible conclusion can be reached on the Etrurian Problem" the Secretary for the Euclean Community said.

He also said that the recent resignation of the his Nordane counterpart, Eyðbiǫrn Brú, was "unfortunate".

"Thus far the Euclean Council has acted with reason, and I am proud of our response".

Mr. Wyvill bemoaned what he viewed as an "amplification of tensions" by Floren officials in their reaction to the proposed criminalization of war crimes claims in Etruria.

"Rhetoric that is obstructionist has no place in our dialogue with Etruria" he said. "I have been working at length with the Prime Minister on the issue and can assure you he maintains this position going into Rýmařov".

In recent days the Prime Minister has been silent on the issue, declining to comment himself and deferring to statements released by his office or comments made by cabinet secretaries.

However he has previously come out strongly against further punitive action against Etruria, criticizing other EC states for what he believed to be extreme reactions with strong political undertones.

Mr. Richardson and his Weranian counterpart agreed to withhold support for the sanctions drafted by the Euclean Council until the judicial reform at the center of tensions was actually implemented.

A source close to the Prime Minister claims he hopes to "ensure the EC does not go past a point of departure".

"We can't isolate Etruria forever, it poses a threat to our collective security by creating an enemy on the Solarian Sea. At some point our relations have to normalize again, and [Richardson] hopes to be a steady hand when the time comes".

The Euclean Convention will take place from 13-16 April in Rýmařov this coming weekend.

SWATHISH PARTY OFFICIALS DEBATE SACKING BRYER

Ickenham - Top officials within the Party of the Swathish are debating whether or not they should sack the party's longtime leader, Alfred Bryer.

Mr. Bryer has led the party since 2009 and overseen its performance in the 2012 and 2016 parliamentary elections, in which its performance has been regarded as "lackluster" by one party official.

In 2012, the party failed to capitalize on the fall of Estmere First, which had made headway into many of Wealdland's traditional industrial centers. It gained three seats, less than hoped by the party's leadership. In the 2016 election it lost one seat and failed to gain any new seats after a failure to increase its voteshare.

"Bryer is too boring" one ranking party official said. "People are tired of his face, of the same rhetoric. He has failed to endear himself to our electorate and has failed to advance Swathish independence and interests".

"It's time for him to go".

If the party's main governing body, the Committee for the Swathish, votes to sack Mr. Bryer a new leader would be installed by the body.

So far it is unknown who the committee would put in place to succeed the outgoing leader, with party officials declining to indicate a successor.

"LAND REFORM" PRIVATE MEMBER'S BILL RAISES EYEBROWS IN THE STATES GENERAL
A backbencher's land reform bill has caused a stir; with members of the governing coalition concerned that it might violate the 1987 Aslpaat Act.

State President Lennaert Kruger refused to comment on the emerging issue.

Envoort, Nimear -

A private's member bill regarding land reform from backbencher Mozes Koeaara in the States General has come to to cause great concern among some members of the governing coalition.

The controversial bill comes after a scathing criticism of the government from members of the opposition last week, following a controversial report from a professor at the University of Sint-Nicolaas, which claimed that there was a great disparity in land ownership in the country, drawn along racial lines, in which white farmers - specifically those of Estmerish descent - controlled upwards of 80% of the country's farmland, despite comprising a minority of the population.

Although many news outlets and politicians have discredited the report as "divisive", "discriminatory" and "bordering on hate speech", the researchers behind the report have stood by their work; claiming that the report is accurate, and encouraging other individuals to follow-up the study by researching the racial divide in the country's agricultural sector on their own.

The private member's bill - now widely referred to as the Land Reform Bill - draws on evidence provided by the University of Sint-Nicolaas' report, and proposes that the government engage in a "radical and widespread" land reform program, in order to achieve a more equitable distribution of farmland among the racial groups in the country. Controversially, the wording of the bill suggests that any government-mandated confiscation of land would not necessarily have the previous owners compensated; which led to claims that the bill was fostering "anti-white racism" and clearly favoured Nimear's other racial groups.

Mozes Koeaara, the principle sponsor of the bill, defended his decision to raise the issue in the States General and the bill itself, stating in an interview that "we cannot expect equality of any kind while there is no present equality of opportunity", in reference to a criticism that the bill attempted to create equality of outcome, further stating that "these moneyed farmers were given an advantage by the Estmerish administration; we cannot allow this dissonance of equality to persist".

Many politicians and political analysts are concerned that the bill would contradict and therefore violate the 1987 Aslpaat Act; a continuing government policy which attempted to heal racial divides by assuring each group that their rights would not be violated. Many claim that the bill violates the rights of the small Estmerish minority in the country, and is thus in violation of the act.

Conversely, Koeaara and other opposition politicians have hit back; instead claiming that the disparity in land ownership instead violates the rights of the other racial minorities, by weakening their economic position.

Chancellor Willem Marsch said, during a special session of the States General, that the bill "echoed the rising tyranny of Occhetto", and promised to oppose the bill along with his governing coalition. This remark was met with both applause and boos from other members of the States General; the backbencher Koeaara himself fired back, exclaiming "unlike the right honourable Chancellor, Occhetto listens to the concerns of his countrymen". Koeaara later withdrew the remark.

State President Lennaert Kruger was asked to comment on the emerging crisis, but gave no response.

WALKER CALLS FOR RESTORATION OF TRUST, COHESIVE APPROACH TO ETRURIA
Breaking with her self-imposed policy of 'Golden Silence', the EC President encouraged member-states to stop sparring over Etruria

President Walker played down divisions within the EC and remained optimistic about the upcoming Rýmařov Convention.

JALANDHAR – EC President Alexis Walker has sought to calm fears over growing divisions between the Euclean Community's member-states over increased tensions between Florena and Etruria.

Speaking on recent comments made by top officials from across the EC, Ms. Walker said that a "restoration of trust" must occur going forward.

"If we as not only partners, but as a Euclean Family, cannot trust one another, something is fundamentally wrong. A general deescalation of rhetoric from across the board must occur, and all of our member-states must be respectful of the other's unique and dynamic perspectives" she said referencing a public spat between Estmerish and Floren officials at a brief press conference in the Hyndana capital of Jalandhar held earlier today.

Ms. Walker is in Hyndana to close a trade deal with the Coian nation that has been in the works since her tenure as EC President began in November, continuing the work of her predecessor Alexandre Lévesque.

Recently, the Estmerish Foreign Secretary accused the Floren Premier of obstructing a dialogue with Etruria after Floren officials threatened to withdraw their ambassador over an initiative by top Etrurian policymakers to criminalize claims that the Etrurian military regime carried out war crimes during the Solarian War.

Anne Buckett, who has served as Estmere's foreign secretary since last year, also went as far as to suggest that Florena's Premier, , should resign if she was opposed to deescalating tensions with Etruria.

The EC President declined to speak directly on growing tensions between the EC and Etruria, but warned that "any direct threat to our collective security will be addressed".

Ms. Walker went on to indicate that the Euclean Commission would be investigating further security integration as "threats presented themselves to us".

In a break with her self-imposed policy of what hat the Euclean press has coined as "Golden Silence", the EC President addressed an issue she has frequently declined to comment on. Since the implementation of sanctions on top Etrurian officials for their role in controversial judicial reform, Ms. Walker has largely remained silent on The Commission has also been noticeably silent on the issue, indicating that Ms. Walker is granting member-states significant autonomy in their approach to the issue.

However, thus far divisions between have intensified in recent weeks. A coalition of member-states calling for further punitive action against Etruria have publicly sparred with top officials from Estmere and Werania, who are weary of EC overreach.

Such autonomy is likely to end following the upcoming meeting of the Euclean Convention this weekend, as Ms. Walker has indicated she hopes the EC can achieve a cohesive approach to Etruria going forward.

Estmere's representative at the Euclean Council, Percy Wyvill, indicated that the Estmerish Prime Minister would remain steadfast in his opposition to further punitive action against Etruria. He joined Ms. Buckett in denouncing the reaction of Floren officials to a proposal in Etruria that would criminalize claims that the Etruria committed war crimes in its campaigns against its neighboring states in the Solarian War.

A number of top Estmerish official accused Florena of overreacting, exasperating divisions between the two nations as to how to proceed with Etruria.

Gaullica and Werania have been noticeably absent from the dispute, with top government officials declining to comment on the war of words between Estmere and Florena.

A spokesperson for President Walker downplayed the divisions, calling reports that the EC was splintering on the issue "borderline fantasy".

Ms. Walker herself also sought to downplay the divisions, saying member-states would "be on the same page" by the end of the Rýmařov Convention.

"We must wait and see what [Rýmařov'] brings, but a consensus will be reached" she said.

Euclean national leaders will be meeting in the Ostrozskan capital from 13 April to 16 April in a four-day convention in which the Etrurian Crisis will dominate discussion.

"A cohesive response to matters of foreign policy can be achieved through dialogue and understanding" the EC President remarked. Her perceived optimism has relieved some fears that the EC is on an inevitable collision course with itself over how to further proceed with Etruria.

National leaders from each of the member-states will be joined by Ms. Walker and a number of top-ranking EC officials. Among them are High Commissioner Tereza Řezníček, Foreign Director Toryd Hæsaug, Euclean Council Chair Alexandru Verean, and Euclean Parliament Speaker Vivien Vallette.

Tribvne Movement kick starts its campaign
First Citizen, Second Citizen and Rep. Vasari kick start the election by declaring it a "moment for Etruria to stand firm against the EC."

First Citizen Francesco Carcaterra has told supporters that “this election is entirely about sending a strong message to the Euclean Community. This message is that the Etrurian people will not be cowed or bullied by foreigners, that it will be instructed or dictated to, that they have no say in our internal affairs”, “this election is about Etruria telling the world that it is free” he said.
Image
Second Citizen Ettore Mantovano said an electoral victory for the Movement
would guarantee it fulfilling its promises from 2016

Speaking to over 30,000 Tribune supporters in Vicalvi he told them, “this election, despite what the establishment parties are saying, is not about the Justice Reform Act, its not about the Tribune Movement really. It is all about you, it is all about our country sending a strong message to the Euclean Community.”

“They have chosen to attack our country for voting no in the referendum, they have chosen to punish this country for saying no to their soulless, culture destroying agenda. They’re punishing us for breaking their delusions that every Euclean wants more Euclea” he said.

“The message we need you to send is that we will not be bullied or dictated to. We will not let Euclea tell us what to do, what we can and cannot do in our own borders. We need you tell them that you will defend our independence. The only way to do that is to give us the mandate to defend our country with your support. Give us your trust, so that we can fight for you” he said to loud cheers.

“If you vote for the Citizens Alliance, Euclea will come, if you vote the Federalists, Euclea will come, if you vote for the Socialists, Euclea will come. If you vote greens, Euclea will come. If you vote for those who would care more for the EC than Etruria, then the EC will come and rule over Etruria like it does its members.

“Only by voting for the Tribunes can you ensure Etruria’s freedom, Etruria’s culture, Etruria’s identity. Only through the Tribunes and Solarianitás, can we ensure Etruria’s independence” he said, to cheering crowds.

“Place your trust in us to defend our nation from the culture destroying mass, place your trust in us and we will place our trust in you to stand firm” he said.

In Sagittario, Second Citizen Ettore Mantovano said that a Tribune victory would all-but guarantee a honouring of all promises made in 2016.

“Since entering government two years ago, we have fulfilled 10 of our 15 major promises, a victory this time will guarantee beyond certainty, a fulfilment of the final five. That includes the establishment of a minimum-wage committee, a reform to the tuition fee system and further solidification of our reforms to the justice system” he said.

“While this election is about sending a message of resistance to the EC’s bullying, and giving the Movement the mandate to defend Etruria from Floren aggression, this election is also about giving us your trust one more time to carry out your wishes” he told a crowd of 800 in the Sagittario Open Air Amphitheatre.

The Tribune government was aiming to introduce legislation to create the “Minumum-Wage Committee”, which would include the Ministry of Employment and Skills, the All-Worker’s Coalition (a new body that will represent all trade unions at this committee) and the Federal Commission of Businesses. This committee would meet every spring annually to discuss raising the minimum wage. However, the EC’s sanctions and the sudden dissolving of the Senate has delayed the effort.

Tribune Movement Secretary, Vittoria Vasari kicked off the Movement’s campaign in Novalia with a speech to students in Dubovica, in which she said, “be ready, be ready to renew our revolution. Because 2016 was a revolution, the referendum was the overthrow, the election was the victory of the people. We need to protect our revolution from the agents of the EC, because that’s what all the opposition parties, except the Workers and Farmers are.”

“Really, 2,800 years of history, glorious history has led to this moment. The weight of Solaria is on our shoulders, the weight of the renaissance, the Kingdom, the Republic, is on our shoulders. All of our ancestors who fought and died to protect our independence so successfully, our ancestors who built our culture from nothing are watching us now. And they want us to honour them, honour ourselves and honour our fatherland by standing firm” she explained.

“Its right that we do, its right that stand together as one nation against the EC, against Escudero and her delinquent government. Its right that the Movement receive backing, to defend our very way of life” she said to applause.

The Tribune Movement is expected to officially launch its manifesto at a special event in Solaria later this week.

The opposition parties are also expected to launch their campaigns this week, with the Citizens’ Alliance planning hundreds of “street debates” to galvanise its activist groups.

More as the election progresses.

OCCHETTO'S PARTY WINS HUGE MAJORITY IN LEGISLATIVE ELECTION
Avanti Marirana gains enough seats in parliament to change the constitution

AQUINAS, MARIRANA - Occhetto's presidency has received a huge boost as the left-wing Avanti Marirana coalition has won enough seats in both the House of Councillors and the House of Senators to unilaterally change the constitution, getting 145 in the former and 55 in the latter on around 50% of the vote.

The conservative Popular Force 2018 has become the second largest faction with over 8 million votes and 51 seats in the Councillors and 20 Senators. The centrist Coalition for Democratic Action meanwhile suffered a devastating defeat going from 105 Councillors and 42 senators to just 36 and 15 respectively.

The election results allows the Occhetto government to submit proposals to amend or replace the constitution via a referendum, having passed the necessary 60% qualified majority in terms of seats to do so. This ability is a blow to the CPLD and FP 2018 who campaigned extensively against such a result.

Occhetto hailed the result as a "victory for democracy" and that "we've won against the elites, against the foreign interests. Democracy starts today". Amadeo Tajani stated that the government would immediately start drafting proposals to "reinvigorate Mariranan democracy".

Meanwhile CPLD leader Rosa Michelozzi has announced her resignation as chairwomen of the Coalition of Democratic Party and surrendering her seat in parliament. "We ran to prevent an Occhetto dictatorship. We lost. My position is therefore untenable and as such I announce my resignation as both coalition and party leader, and will not take my seat in the House of Councillors".

The election result was a crushing blow to the CPLD, which lost 69 Councillors and 27 senators, as well as making it the first legislative election since 1938 that the Anti-Revolutionary Party was not the largest party in the legislature.

Guglielmo Silva, Federal President of FP 2018, stated he found the result "disappointing" but stated that the election confirmed FP 2018 as the "largest opposition force of the country" and that the coalition would put forward a "strong voice for Mariranan democracy against the Occhetto regime". Alfonso Hatoyama questioned the "validity" of Avanti Marirana's victory alleging electoral fraud.

Avanti Marirana swept the majority of single-member districts, benefiting from vote splitting between the CPLD and FP 2018. In the senate Avanti Marirana won in the Mederio, Catacosci, San Marco and Umbertide provinces whilst FP 2018 did well in Ritaldi and the CPLD in Vittico.

252 YEARS OF FREEDOM
Today marks Asteria’s 252nd birthday, when Asterians signed the Declaration of Independence-- directly defying Gaullica and kicking off the eight-year-long Asterian War for Independence

The Federation -

252 years ago today, sixteen delegates from the four Asterian Colonies assembled in Freeminster to sign the document that would bring about the creation of the Federation of Asteria: the Declaration of Independence. When signed, it was merely an idea-- a physical representation of the anger and aggravation that had driven the Asterian people to take up arms. It would take eight years of war to secure the idea of a free and independent nation outlined in the Declaration of Independence.

While Asteria did not win her independence from the Gaullican Empire until 1774, the 11th of April, 1766, has always been regarded as Asteria’s birthday-- the day that the Asterian people dedicated themselves to breaking free from oppression and create nation where freedom and liberty are always secured. It is today known as "Freedom Day".

President Avery gave some words on the State House lawn, with a middle school class from Antona - as well as the press - to observe. “April 11th is an important day for all Asterians,” he began, “Not only is it our nation’s birthday, but it marks the moment where the Asterian people decided that enough was enough, and pushed back against the Gaullicans that had abused and victimized them for decades.” He added that "the Asterian people have come a long way. We have constantly improved upon ourselves, and improved upon our nation, but we have always kept the vision of our Founding Fathers close to heart. The ideals of personal liberty, as well as social and economic freedom, remain prevalent in the Federation today, and will continue to be defended."

The President also tweeted, mentioning veterans: "As we celebrate our independence this April 11th, it's also important that we remember those who gave their lives to protect the future of the nation forged by our Founding Fathers 252 years ago today. Take today to celebrate, but keep in mind those who've made this all possible."

Parades and celebrations are already occurring all across the country, with Jackson preparing for the annual April 11th Armed Forces Parade. Soldiers will march in formation alongside tanks and trucks, and jet fighters are expected to fly in formation over the city in what has always been a spectacular, patriotic show of military strength. Cities such as New Haven and Brock are also hosting their own large-scale parades, while in Richmond, the annual "Blow it up for Freedom" show is set to continue, where people bring various weapons systems - from cannons to tanks - and fire them in honor of the Federation's birthday.

"252 years of strength, resilience, and accomplishment" Avery concluded in his address, "the Federation is truly a shining city atop a hill, and I have no doubts that accomplishments will continue to be made, we will remain strong, and that we will be steadfast and resilient. God Bless Asteria, and God bless you all."

CENTRE DEMOCRATS WALK OUT OF THE FAIRFAX COALITION
Members of the Centre Democratic Party vote to leave the coalition government with the National Liberals

Gaultier Babineaux is credited with swaying moderate members to vote to leave the coalition.

Valeins – In a staggering, gut blow to the Prime Minister, the Centre Democratic Party has voted to leave the coalition government with the National Liberal Party. The vote, held at a party conference on Monday, was preceded by failed negotiations between Prime Minister Fairfax and the Centre Democratic leadership.

The party referendum on a continued coalition government was drafted over the parliamentary winter recess and scheduled to take place on 15 March 2018.

Infighting within the party's senior leadership and appeals to extend the campaigning period of the referendum resulted in an official rescheduled date set for Monday, 9 April 2018.

CDP Members of Parliament, their political affiliates, and registered members were eligible to cast a vote yesterday. Of the 243,425 members of the Centre Democratic Party, 120,188 voted to leave the coalition while 118,025 voted to remain in the coalition. 5,212 either abstained or did not attend their local chapter gatherings, forfeiting their right to vote.

The results of the referendum were officially certified by the Federal Electoral Commission (FEC) this morning.

The Centre Democratic Party is set to leave the coalition government on Thursday, 12 April, moving from the government benches to the opposition benches.

The results of the referendum are a punishing disaster for the Prime Minister and his party as they look to govern alone for the remainder of the parliamentary term.

It is an especially horrific blow to the moderate elements of the Centre Democratic Party. The senior leadership, comprised mainly of centrists, is now at odds with many of their own MPs and wider party membership.

Dissatisfied with the status quo, the referendum is seen a victory for those seeking to take the party further to the left.

Gaultier Babineaux told the press that this is the beginning of a "political revolution" that will sweep the country.

When asked to comment on whether or not he would challenge Olivier Marchal in a leadership spill, Mr. Babineaux informed the press that should his party ask him to serve "I will."

With the loss of their coalition partner, the National Liberals are now 31 seats short of a majority.

As the summer legislative season nears the Prime Minister is crippled in the face of a number of serious challenges that will now have to be met head-on by a minority government with few friends on the opposition benches. Unless a new coalition deal can be brokered with the Labour Party, or more likely the Conservatives, the fate of the first NLP government hangs in the balance.

Barring a negotiating miracle between one of the main opposition parties, Prime Minister Fairfax does have one political ace up his sleeve, a snap election.

A recent poll conducted by the Valentiri Broadcasting Network has shown that the National Liberals are still quite popular, their polling numbers standing at 45.7%. While that doesn't represent a clear majority of popular support, it is a glimmer of light for the Prime Minister in a sea of dark, political abyss.

The Conservatives, the second largest party in Parliament, stand at 25.5% in the polls, around 20 points behind the NLP. Labour follows close behind the CP, standing at 20.8%, nearly 23 points behind the government.

Those numbers could take a drastic turn, however, as the Centre Democratic Party abandons its centrist roots in favour of a progressive revolution. The fate of the CDP rests in the hands of Olivier Marchal and Gaultier Babineaux and their ability to find common ground as they leave the coalition just nearly a year after signing the original agreement.

BREAKING Glyt diplomats arrested Pietramontecorvino Airport in apparent bid to extract Reali
Etruria to vacate embassy in Glytter, grants Glyts 72 hours to vacate Poveglia

The Foreign Ministry has confirmed a major incident at Pietramontecorvino International Airport near Vicalvi. According to a statement from spokesman Luigi Farra, the “airport security personnel detained three men, one being a Glyttish diplomat and the other two being aides from the Glyttish Embassy in Poveglia. They were detained entering the country carrying false passports. From initial observations of these false documents, they were intended for former Presidents Emiliano Reali, Andrea Salvini and several key officials currently under criminal investigation.” He also confirmed that the Glyttish embassy staff had 72 hours to vacate, while Etruria would recall its embassy.

According to social media messages sent out by passers by in Pietramontecorvino, three men were stopped for a random search by Border Protection Officers, they searched what is now confirmed to be a diplomatic bag. Inside they found six fake passports, now believed to be intended for former president Emiliano Reali, his Interior Minister, Simone Grasci, Finance Minister Marco Paccelli and three low ranking members of his executive staff.

Once having discovered the fake documents, the BPOs transferred the three men onto the National Police Service who are now detained at the airport detention block. They’re facing being charged with possessing forged passports, however, the greater issue may be with who the documents were intended for.

Mr. Farra told reporters that, “this gross crime was not perpetrated by organised criminals, but by official public servants of the government of Glytter. What we are looking at is categorically a pre-mediated attempt by a foreign government extract suspects in a criminal investigation.”

“This is perhaps the most blatant effort by a foreign state to interfere with the domestic and internal affairs of the Transetrurian Federation” he said further.

Mr. Farra further explained, “with permission from the NPS, I can confirm that interrogations of the three individuals have confirmed that the forged passports were intended for the pictured individuals and that their instructions came from high levels of the Glyttish government”, “in light of this scandalous attack on Etrurian sovereignty, within 72 hours the Etrurian government expects the Glyttish embassy in Poveglia to be vacated. While our embassy in Spálgleann will be vacated as swiftly as possible” he said.

This will be the first time in over thirty years that the Etrurian government has all-but cut diplomatic ties with another country.

“In line with Etruria’s commitment to maintain good neighbourly ties with the Euclean Community, communication between Etruria and Glytter may be maintained through a third party of their choosing. However, we cannot in good conscience maintain open relations with a country that shows utter disregard for Etrurian independence and shows utter disrespect to the Etrurian people” he said.

The First Citizen is expected to make a major statement tomorrow.

Yet, other senior government officials have commented. Foreign Minister Vinci described the incident as the “grossest assault on Etruria’s dignity in years.”

Interior Minister Tullio Quagliariello for his part described it to reporters in Accadia as, “a serious incident, that deserves immediate response, perhaps beyond the mere cutting official diplomatic channels. I would back all efforts of the government that include sanctions.”

Minister Quagliariello was joined by Defence Minister Aurelio Scippio Graziano during a campaign event in Accadia, he followed up by saying, “this incident, alongside the Floren hysteria and the sanctions by the Euclean Community appear to be a coordinate and concerted effort to undermine Etrurian sovereignty, I would go beyond my friend and say that we are a nation besieged.”

The Citizens’ Alliance has reportedly postponed its campaign launch in wake of the incident.

More as the story develops.

GLYT OFFICIALS ARRESTED IN ETRURIAN ON SUSPICION OF CARRYING FAKED PASSPORTS
Etrurian authorities claimed a diplomat and two aides were seeking to give faked passports to officials under criminal investigation

National Security Minister Sarah Pingins has already submitted her resignation over the incident, but it has not yet accepted.

SPÁLGLEANN – Three Glytteronian diplomatic officials have been arrested at the Pietramontecorvino International Airport in Etruria over allegations that they attempted to smuggle in faked passports for former Etrurian officials, including a former president.

The officials were arrested at the airport, which is located near the city of Vicalvi, after a flight from the Etrurian capital, Poveglia. A ranking diplomat stationed at the Glytteronian embassy and his two aides were detained. Afterwhich, the diplomatic baggage was searched and it was then that Etrurian authorities claim the faked passports were discovered.

Etrurian authorities alleged the faked passports were intended for former President Emiliano Reali, his Interior Minister, Simone Grasci, Finance Minister Marco Paccelli and three low ranking members of his executive staff. Mr. Reali hoped to lead Etruria into the Euclean Community but was defeated in his 2016 referendum. He was recently put under a criminal investigation by Etrurian authorities for alleged corruption during his presidency.

Glytteronian officials have declined to comment on whether or Mr. Reali and his allies were the intended targets of faked passports, but at a press conference Foreign Minister Robert Kean confirmed there were faked passports in the diplomatic bag.

“Yes, [faked passports] were there” he said.

“However, that does not change the fact that Etrurian border police disregarded international law when they searched a diplomatic bag that was clearly labeled”.

Mr. Kean declined to comment any further on the nature of the faked passports or the searching of the diplomatic bag. He refused to disclose the identities of those arrested “for their personal security”.

He confirmed that the Glytteronian government would be complying with the Etrurian order to vacate the embassy within seventy-two hours.

“Our ambassador and other senior staffers are already en route to Glytter. The remaining staff will return to Glytter before the deadline”.

The National Security Board held a near all day session at Loveland House today. Several officials present confirmed the meeting was “contentious”.

National Security Minister Sarah Pingins has already submitted her resignation but has declined to comment on the situation. The Taoiseach has yet to accept, but is expected to sometime tomorrow.

He is set to address the nation in a televised address tomorrow over the crisis. Loveland House has declined to comment as to just what Mr. O’Reilly will be saying.

This has become the most significant diplomatic crisis faced by the Glytteronian government in decades, and is the second major diplomatic scandal for the O’Reilly government.

A brief statement was issued earlier today by Mr. O’Reilly confirming that his government was working to resolve the crisis.

Mr. O’Reilly has faced significant domestic and international criticism for a bilateral agreement secured with the Farsi government over its illegal stockpiles of chemical weapons.

The Pietramontecorvino Incident has created a firestorm of criticism, with all opposition parties voicing concerns.

“In a break with our diplomatic tradition, [Taoiseach O’Reilly] appears to have no regard for international institutions. This is absolutely unacceptable” Social Democrats leader Stiofán Mac Suibhne said.

A spokesperson for the National Party said the “fiasco” was “evidence that the Liberty Party is no longer fit to govern, as it has abandoned its own principles. It is time for a return to reality”.

Ex-Foreign Minister Frank Casarnach, who has been a vocal critic of Mr. O’Reilly’s foreign policy, said the incident was a “self-induced blow to whatever remained of Glytter’s international standing”.

“Our diplomatic reputation is being shattered by an inexperienced, cocky man-sized child” he said in his harshest criticism of the Taoiseach yet.

Throughout Euclea, foreign governments have raised alarm over the issue.

A statement released by the Estmerish Foreign Department said it was of “grave concern”. The Estmerish Prime Minister, Rupert Richardson, said he would be addressing the issue “rather quickly” at the upcoming Rýmařov Convention this weekend.

While in Hyndana to sign a trade agreement between the EC and the Coian nation, EC President Walker said the incident was “a major diplomatic faux pas that threatened to substantially escalate tensions” between the EC and Etruria.

“This is most unfortunate and most unacceptable” she said.

“I have made these sentiments known to the Glytteronian government”.

Tensions between Etruria and the EC have been at an all time high since the Etrurian government passed the Judicial Reform Act, which many international observers claimed would erode judicial independence. The EC sanctioned top Etrurian officials over the legislation and since tensions have continued to increase, worsening as ranking Etrurian officials have proposed a bill that would criminalize war crimes allegations against Etruria.

The EC hopes to address the issue this weekend in Rýmařov.

Hyndana and Euclean Community Sign a Trade Agreement
The Pact promises a new chapter in their relationship

Jalandhar - A historic trade agreement between Hyndana and the Euclean Community (EC) has been signed today in the Confederacy's Capital, Jalandhar. The agreement, which has been in the negotiating table since November 2017, has been presented by Hyndanan Officials as a "mutually beneficial agreement for the economies of both sides." The Pact also promises to create a new chapter in the diplomatic relations of both sides. The visit of EC President Alexis Walker is seen as a signal of closer relations with Hyndana in the near-future.

The agreement is ground-breaking as it lowers the tariffs rates on a number of industries for both sides. By doing this, according to experts, trading will be encouraged between both sides and strengthen economic relations. It represents the opportunity to find new buyers and sellers of products and to even be a jobs-generator for industries where each side excels in. Experts have highlighted that the negotiations were relative quick considering how complex it is to put together an agreement with a bloc such as the Euclean Community. They believe that a general understanding between both sides and a history of relatively positive relations allowed for a much faster negotiation process.

The next steps for this trade agreement is the ratification stage. In the case of Hyndana, the pact will need to be voted on by the Senate and by the Congress of Deputies before the Emperor can enact it. The most important step is in the Senate as it is the channel where the different princely states can vote on the agreement and thus create a check on the Emperor. On the Euclean side, the deal needs the endorsement of the Euclean Council before it can be voted on by the Euclean Parliament. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is expected the Hyndanan Parliament votes on the agreement within the month.

Securing a trade agreement with the EC is seen as a victory for Foreign Minister Ambedkar and Commerce Minister Devgan both of whom spearheaded this initiative. In the case of the former, it provides a boost of credibility within the Hyndanan politics. This is much needed for Ambedkar as he is currently heading the response against the belligerent nuclear missile placement by the Songhua Government in that country;s northern regions and in Khatagh. For experts, as he prepares to dive further in the geopolitical drama between both Coian Giants it is essential for him to retain the Emperor's favor. If he loses His favor he might as well begin to look for a new job as his days in that Ministry would be counted, analysts agree.

Lawspeaker Sigfrýður Wágadal addressed members of the media in a press conference this morning.

Carset, United Kingdom - The Office of the Lawspeaker announced today that the cabinet was reshuffled in the wake of former Secretary of State for the Euclean Community Eyðbiǫrn Brú’s resignation last Friday.

The statement, which was released on the government’s website, stated “In light of [Eyðbiǫrn Brú’s] resignation last Friday, Lawspeaker Wágadal ultimately decided to reshuffle the cabinet in its entirety rather than appoint a new minister to serve as Secretary of State for the Euclean Community.”

Many suspect that the cabinet reshuffle has little to do with Brú and more the reason given for his resignation. The former Secretary of State wrote in his resignation letter that he “fundamentally disagreed” with the path the Euclean Community was taking in dealing with the crisis between it and the nation of Etruria. Sources close to the former minister indicate that he was not alone in his thinking and that other members of the Lawspeaker’s cabinet shared his opinion.

The reshuffle has been described by many analysts as a way for Wágadal to reassert his authority as Lawspeaker, which had seen a blow following the resignation of Brú and reports that others in his cabinet were of similar mind with the former Secretary of State.

One source close to the Lawspeaker claimed Wágadal jokingly compared his decision to reshuffle the cabinet to “weeding your garden or trimming your hedges.” When asked directly about this, Wágadal admitted to a “lapse of judgement” when making the comment.

Notable departures are Secretary of State for Defence Wiljam Kallewig and First Secretary of State Sisseki Teigen, both of whom had served at their posts since Wágadal’s reelection as lawspeaker in 2014. Teigen’s removal comes as the biggest surprise of the reshuffling, as many analysts expected her to succeed Wágadal as Lawspeaker in the upcoming general elections this Fall.

The reshuffling saw Lynellyn Kalmansǫnn, MP for Sólreid, appointed as Kallewig’s successor. Kalmansǫnn had previously held the position from 2006-2009 under the second Swansdóta government. Grewen Eyðawend, MP for West Owe, replaced Teigen as First Secretary of State. Foreign Secretary Týra Rǫnne retained her position. It was widely speculated that she would be quickly appointed Secretary of State for the Euclean Community following Brú’s resignation. Instead, Njálur Reyni was promoted. Reyni had served as Deputy Secretary of State for the Euclean Community since 2016.

One thing made very apparent by the reshuffling is the stance of Wágadal’s government on the Etrurian crisis. The Lawspeaker has made it clear that the country remains committed to EC objectives.

Some analysts believe that any further escalation of the Etruria crisis following the conclusion of the Rýmařov Convention could see a motion of no confidence filed. The Rýmařov Convention takes place from 13 -16 April and will be attended by the national leaders of member-states and top-ranking Euclean Community officials.

VALLETTE: GAULLICA STANDS READILY BEHIND PRESIDENT WALKER, MODERATION IS NEEDED IN THE ETRURIAN DEBACLE.
As Estmere and Florena continue to polarise, Gaullica aims to rally the community around the 'Golden Mean' approach.

Verlois, Gaullica -

Gaullican President Jean Vallette gave a rousing speech in favour of Euclean Community President Alexis Walker early today at a pro-Community rally in Verlois. Gaullica has remained silent on the growing tensions between the Community and Etruria and between Florena and Estmere, who have polarised towards extremes against each other - or so is claimed - in relation to the 'Eturian Situation'.

President Walker faces a strong challenge before her - a battle between her and Etruria as the once hopeful member state turned against the Euclean Community during her most recent elections.

The challenges raised now come from Etrurian attempts to undermine their own democracy, destroying their separation of powers and the assassination of the capabilities of an independent judiciary. Highlighting the need to defend democracy on the Euclean Continent; the Euclean Community awoke from her self induced Euclean Pax slumber and aimed to throttle the attempt.

President Vallette officially declared Gaullican support for the 'Walkerite Plan' of moderation, highlighting that Florena's solution of mass asset collectivization was not the intended course of action.

"Madame President Walker..." Vallette began to the crowds. "She brings good ideas, strong and formulated plans of diplomatic tact to the table. As Taioseach of Glytter, she was just as tactful. Here she aims on rebuilding the bridge between the Community and Etruria; and whilst the former's actions are unjustifiable in a democratic state, we too must remember that we are democracies: Our weapons are our words and our peaceful actions; not those of our more warlike past. It is here we say that we await the Rymarov Conference with a heavy heart; and we remind our Community President that Gaullica stands readily behind her, for moderation and means are necessary to prevent extremism."

The Gaullican President also called on for a "re-ignition" of the "Euclean Spirit of Camaraderie" between Florena and Estmere. "We wont achieve much by battling each other, my Floren and Estmerish friends. We must remember the Community works as we stand together; our divergent opinions make us special, but we must not blind ourselves to reason. Let us be civil and follow our president's plan."

First Citizen Carcaterra slams Glytter over Pietramontecorvino Incident
First Citizen says Etruria must "look beyond Euclea" and "in ourselves" in the future.

First Citizen Francesco Carcaterra has slammed Glytter and Taoiseach Jimmy O’Reilly in his first appearance since the incident at Pietramontecorvino Airport yesterday. In his televised address the First Citizen said, “while there was great confusion over the status of the Glytteronian diplomats, I urge Etrurians not to be distracted from the sinister attack on our dignity by Glytter.” He later confirmed that the three individuals had not been arrested or charged but were interrogated by the Police and are awaiting to be deported.

First Citizen Carcaterra said "this calamitous disaster" rests at the feet of Taoiseah O'Reilly

First Citizen Carcaterra spoke from Castelvitrano, in his first official statement following the Pietramontecorvino Incident. He had reportedly held a conference call with the federal cabinet to discuss the incident. No further details of what was discussed or whether further action would be taken against Glytter, though rumours are continuing to come out of the Tribvne Movement that the Incident is widely considered to be the “point of no-return.”

One unnamed source in the federal government told Nouvo Mundo, “this is it, the Gyltteronians have finally broke the camel’s back, there’s no forgiving this nor is there any room for us to work toward rapprochement.”

Another source told us that the government is now viewing the incident as the “vindication, everyone is now going to say that this proves everything the Movement has said about the EC, people like [Vittoria] Vasari are winning the argument that this part of an EC conspiracy.”

In his televised address the First Citizen was clear, “we are now facing an existential crisis to our way of life, our independence and sovereignty. To the east we have a hysterical Floren regime dedicated to unravelling peace in Southern Euclea, to the north we have Glytter which seeks to undermine our sovereignty by extracting a suspected criminal. And in the north, we have Kesselbourg, the heart of the EC which seeks to punish our country for our democratic decision to reject membership.”

“Despite our continuous assertion that we seek good neighbourly relations with all Euclean nations, it is now clear that this is not the intention of the EC or its individual memberstates. Therefore, under the weight of this combined effort to undo our democracy, our history and culture, we must look beyond Euclea. We must look beyond this continent to the next, but also, we must look to ourselves” he said.

“In ourselves we find a most fierce spirit, a spirit of resistance, pride, strength, faith and dedication. In ourselves is the means to survive and overcome this assault by the Euclean Community” he said.

“While we must recognise that the EC as an entity seeks to undermine Etruria, its democracy and its way of life. We must equally so, urge those nations of the EC who seek to live peacefully, cooperatively and respectfully alongside Etruria, to speak out, to stand up and be counted. You are Euclea, you are the Community, not the Commission, not Glytter and certainly Florena” he said further.

The First Citizen attacked the Taoiseach directly saying, “to Taoiseach O’Reilly, I do not know what you hoped to achieve, I do not know what you thought would come out of extracting a suspected criminal from Etruria, I do not know whether you sought to use a disgraced politician for some future nefarious plot, but it failed. You failed.

“The complete and total collapse in trust we had in you and your people is at your door. You are responsible for this calamitous disaster, you alone” he said.

Before ending his address and taking questions, Carcaterra urged the Etrurian people to recognise the connection between the current crisis and the ongoing election.

“I cannot urge enough for popular recognition that this election is about defending Etruria. We cannot allow the EC, Glytter or Florena dictate our direction or our destiny. We cannot allow those in our legislatures who would invite the EC here to gain power, if we do, everything that we have fought for since 2016 will come to nothing. We will sleepwalk towards soulless oblivion, if the Citizens or whoever takes office on 25th April, we will have become the architects of our own destruction.

“I end now with a quote from Giovanni Ceravolo, “We are the Sons of Romulus, the successors to Augustus, Hadrianus and Tullius, we are the sentinels of Candreva, Vocena, Raneiri and Vinci. We are the inheritors of a nation built upon the sacrifices of titans. We hold the mantle of civilisation on our shoulders. We can never surrender” he said.

He promptly took questions from reporters, one reporter asked about the chaotic status of the three Glytteronian diplomats.

“I can confirm that they were not, were not arrested or charged at any time during their detention and interrogation by police at Pietramontecorvino. They were searched because they were selected at random for a customs search. They acted suspiciously, they were searched, and the forged passports were found.

“They were escorted by police to the detention block to explain the passports. They chose to do so. At no point were they officially charged or arrested” he replied.

The Foreign Ministry has since repeated this, issuing a written statement saying that the diplomats were “interrogated but were not charged or arrested owing to their diplomatic immunity. They freely and openly confessed to their objectives.”

A reporter from the Dubovica Mail asked whether further action would be taken against Glytter, First Citizen Carcaterra replied that “matters relating to further retaliation are under discussion.”

One suggestion put forward by Culture Minister Lucca Vasca, was the prohibit package holidays to Glytter, alongside a ban on all access to Etrurian universities for Glytteronian students.

First Citizen Carcaterra was also asked about the status of former president Emiliano Reali, who was the primary target of the passport plot.

“The latest update I received from the Federal Prosecution Service was that he is to be detained by the NPS due to his categorisation as a flight-risk. I believe that this will be extended to all former officials currently under investigation in the Cancello Case” he said.

The First Citizen refused to take further questions, citing the need to return to the campaign trail.

More as the story develops.

Pietramontecorvino has crippled the opposition - the EC must recognise that it empowers the Tribunes
The Citizens' Alliance has been forced to postpone its campaign launch and re-write its electoral strategy, this was easily avoidable

Etruria finds itself in a whirlwind of emotion, rhetoric and political debate. It also finds itself at the centre of perhaps the greatest crisis in Euclea for many years. As the Tribune government and the Euclean leadership entrench their positions, the EC shows serious signs of division. This division has led to some unilateral action by EC members, the latest of such by Glytter has backfired beyond comprehension – not just for O’Reilly but for the Etrurian democratic opposition. The passport fiasco, has crippled the opposition.

Vittoria Vetra can lead the Citizens' Alliance to victory, but the EC isn't helping

IThe events of the past 24-hours are surreal as they are devastating. An apparently attempt by the Glytteronian government to secure the escape and freedom of former president Emiliano Reali has failed. Foiled by a serious breach in the concept of diplomatic immunity and a questionable practice of selective custom searches at airports in Etruria. Three Glytteronian diplomatic officials were searched at “random”, their diplomatic bag emptied to reveal forged Etrurian passports, one for Emiliano Reali, one for his interior and finance ministers and three members of his executive staff.

In normal times this effort would be shocking and controversial anyway, but these are not normal times. All six of the men in question are under investigation in the so-called ‘Cancello Case’, a four-year embezzlement scheme involving the four sacked Constitutional Court justices, a state-owned road maintenance company, the controversial and now repealed Land Development Act. The fact that these six men are under investigation and Glytter attempted to secure their escape is bad, but add that Reali is the president who led Etruria into the EC referendum and darker clouds being amass.

The Tribune government under First Citizen Carcaterra have already made much use of this great propaganda coup, calling this an attack on Etrurian sovereignty, dignity and self-determination. They’re declaring this the “Momento di Rivendicazione” (Moment of Vindication), the moment all of their conspiracy theories about the EC were vindicated as truth. The extreme right of the party, led by Vittoria Vasari are claiming that this proves the existence of coordinated plot against Etruria. At any other time this would merely rouse their base, but now we’re seeing it draw the fury of those outside their described base.

Besides the sudden explosion of renewed nationalism across Etruria, the greatest effect the Pietramontecorvino Incident has had, is on the opposition. The Citizens’ Alliance was forced to postpone its campaign launch, is it yet to be re-scheduled. Many saw this as just a move of respect for the severity of the situation, though in reality it is more tragic. The CA has been forced to re-write its entire electoral strategy, the same is most likely the same for the Federalists and the pro-EC small parties eager and capable of breaking into the federal legislature.

They’ve done so because our electoral strategy was to present this election as a referendum on the Tribunes, not the EC. The plan was to present the people with the choice of further tensions, isolation and extremism, or rapprochement, respect and friendly cooperation with the Euclean Community. Never, were we suggesting overturning the 2016 referendum result. But in truth, this relied on the EC and its members being restrained and reasonable, sadly this did not happen.

The passport disaster has crippled the CA’s electoral strategy, it has granted the Tribunes the right to declare any pro-EC party or movement “a fifth column”, which has already done so. But while this is dangerous hyperbole, typical of the conspiracy theorist heavy government, it has some truth to it. How can we really, support a body that commits acts such as what happened at Pietramontecorvino?

We’re entering a situation now where any semblance of pro-EC idealism or hopes can be miscast as anti-Etrurian, self-hatred and disingenuous. If we to keep on with our electoral strategy, a referendum on the Tribunes against the EC, would very easily backfire.

While the CA is highly capable, professional and dedicated, it will take time to develop a new strategy and sadly time is something we do not have. Etrurian electoral law makes snap elections very short on campaign time. Campaigns are short but intense, as such delayed campaigns cost votes and seats in the end. The Pietramontecorvino Incident, has perhaps cost us our chance of ending the nightmare that is the Tribune government.

To be blunt and to repeat my point; Taoiseach Jimmy O’Reilly may have just given the Tribunes a second major electoral victory. While I suspect the point of the effort was to protect a friend of the EC from an investigation that may well be politically motivated, it has backfired. While I praise the EC’s response to the Tribunes overt efforts to restore authoritarianism in Etruria, I cannot in good conscience back their methods.

If the Euclean Community truly wishes to assist us in expelling nationalist populism from the Palazzo Vittoria, then the best route and option is be silent and do nothing. Every action, every condemnation plays directly into the Tribunes gain, every sanction and condemnation “vindicates them.” We in the Citizens’ Alliance can defeat them, when their policies dramatically affect our nation, when their incompetence becomes apparent, when they shoot themselves in the foot, we will overcome them.

The EC must condemn every move by the Tribunes to condemn Etrurians to authoritarian rule, they must call out every crime against liberty. But beyond that, and you empower them. But know that the Citizens’ stands with you, we seek to work with you and assist you in building a free, liberal and just Euclea. But we can only do that by defeat the Tribunes democratically.

I hope the EC heeds my words, for if not, the Tribune nightmare will only worsen.
