Recognition and badges for WA/Issues co-authors

Postby Lenlyvit » Sat Mar 10, 2018 11:43 am

I had an idea I started thinking about over the last few days. As it stands now co-authors of both SC and GA resolutions are not recognized officially nor given a badge for their work. I was wondering if it may be possible to add official co-author spots in submitting resolutions like the field where you enter the targets name in SC resolutions. Also, I know right now that SC author badges are orange and GA author badges are blue, so I was wondering if co-author badges could be created where an SC co-author badge is red and a GA co-author badge is green. Just a thought I had.

I support - mainly because I want my WA shenanigans to piss off more people. :p

I support this proposal as well - it would allow for collaboration to be actually recognized in the World Assembly, and could possibly prevent some conflicts in the WA regarding authorship on certain resolution topics.

This is a great idea, but maybe like how they handle Easter Eggs e.g. with the little (2), (3), etc. depending on how many you have, or, in this case, how many resolutions you co-authored?

I do like the idea, though I'm not so sure about the amount of work that would be required to apply this retroactively to co-authors of existing resolutions.

Lenlyvit wrote:Edit: I'm thinking of a set number. Maybe a maximum of 2 SC co-authors and a maximum of 3 GA co-authors.

We already have a firm maximum of 3 GA co-authors, and no set maximum of SC co-authors (though the co-author section of the SC rulings thread has some guidelines on who is allowed to be listed as a co-author). Wouldn't mind seeing the same three-co-author limit in the SC.

They would have to be hard-coded into the submission page. Which isn't really a huge issue. It has been discussed before. How would that work for past co-authors? Would we back-date existing resolutions that list a co-author?

I like the idea.

EDIT: Didn't even read Wrapper's post. Great minds!

That's a good question. I mean, it would be nice for past co-authors to also get badges for their work but that would mean a ton of time sifting through resolutions. You could use a browser search function for each page of resolutions to find the word "co-author". Maybe a committee of people could do it for the GA and the SC? Also, how hard would it be to reward badges for past co-authors? Too much trouble?

I've added the list of SC co-authors. I also included all co-authors that have CTEd as well as all co-authors of repealed legislation. In my investigations, I think I've found that even when your legislation is repealed you keep the badge on your nation. With these numbers of co-authors in both the SC and GA, its a shame they don't get official recognition for their work.

Can I add that it'd also be good for issue co-authors to get badges and issue count increases too.

Is there a list of issues somewhere similar to the WA archives on NS?

Edit: I was looking for something I could use to make a list of issues co-authors, anyone know where I can get those?

I can't even tell that from the backstage issue control panel, not without manually looking at every issue. That's the problem really - there's no automated recognition of any author except the first listed one, though they do get credited when an issue is received.

Yeah, I suppose I could do it, I guess, however it'll take me a few hours, they all have to be located by hand. The person that maintains the passed Issues list has some of them, and I know Jutsa very well so he should be able to help me out with this. I'll get a table or something listing the issue authors/co-authors today and if admin follows through on this idea they can go for it. Always happy to help with your awesome ideas.

The person that maintains the passed Issues list has some of them, and I know Jutsa very well so he should be able to help me out with this. I'll get a table or something listing the issue authors/co-authors today and if admin follows through on this idea they can go for it. Always happy to help with your awesome ideas.

Oh my god you're a lifesaver . It took forever to do the WA ones, and that was with a search function. Also, I seriously don't have the connections you do!

You probably have more than me, it's just Jutsa is somewhat of a powerhouse in the GI, and maintains the issues list.

For the WA, what about authors who are only listed at the end of the text -- like co-authors -- because their players let somebody else submit the resolution?
e.g. GA Resolution #20 'Suppress international Piracy', proposed by Mavenu, has St Edmund listed [correctly] as author but your search for co-authors apparently ignored this.
The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.
Author of some GA Resolutions, via Bears Armed Mission; subject of an SC resolution.

I actually found one in the SC like that, and put the author as a co-author. The one you mention I missed, so thanks for that! I don't know what to do for them, any ideas? Also, do you know any others I missed?
