I browse the forum for a few minutes, particularly the II section. Then when I move to the NS section, I find that my account has logged off. This has happened numerous times.

I read the forum in a different tab, and click on my nation name occasionally in the first tab which has me still logged into the game. This seems to work.

By "NS section," do you mean the "NationStates" forum (within "Diplomacy"), or the non-forum part of the game? Also, is this happening within a few minutes, or do you mean when you return after idling for a while?

NationStates forum under Diplomacy. I read a few posts in II and I click Board Index, when I click the NationStates subforum, I have logged off.

I'm not able to reproduce that. Does it perhaps happen after you make a post in II? Or are you just clicking around?

If anyone figures out a method of forcing yourself to be logged out when you shouldn't be, please let me know.

It seems to be more of a time thing. I've noticed that the sidebar (with the "Home / Create a Nation / The World etc.") seems to refresh every time I click on anything in NS, and logs me out after a short period of time, although I couldn't say how long -- since I stay logged in on the forums; it just logs me out of my nation. 5-10 minutes it seems like.

I can't remember. The last time it happened was about 4 days ago, and I tend to become very forgetful.

It usually happens after I make a post, yes, although I can not currently recall whether or not it happens at other times. And it has happened to me when posting in forums besides II (General and Forum 7, specifically).

Note there's a difference between being logged off and NOTICING one was logged off. Trying to post a message and failing to do so due to one no longer being logged in does cause one to notice being logged out, but that's not necessarily the cause of it.

From what I can tell, it's a simple time-out. It only happens to me after I've been so busy reading long texts that I forgot to refresh my NS page for a while (I keep my nation front page in tab 1 in Firefox, and read the forum in other tabs. Occasionally I click on my nation name in the first tab so there's a refresh).

Perhaps a cookie times out too quickly?

This has been pretty annoying when I go on telegram recruitment sprees. It's not affected by nation activity, because I'm actively and continuously sending telegrams. I open large batches (60+) of national pages in tabs, and then go through them, picking nations I want to recruit and sending the TG's one at a time. Starting from at least last Sunday, I would get maybe halfway through one of my batches of tabs and it would tell me the request failed a security check... meaning I had been automatically logged out and back in, I assume. Hitting refresh on each page would clear it up and allow me to send the TG without having to resupply my log-in information, but going through that extra step is annoying and time consuming.

I've committed a patch that I think will fix this (no promises).

The failed security check is probably a different issue. I'll have to look into it.

OK, I've made it so the forum is not capable of logging people out. There's a logout link on the sidebar anyway.

Not for people who turn off the sidebar, there isn't.

I didn't even realize that was possible. I'm not convinced it should be.

OK, that's fair. I've put the link back, but it submits the request to the game instead of the forum. The forum's code to log people out of their nations is still disabled until such time as we know why people were getting logged out randomly.

Note: this is expected behavior if you haven't visited anything on NS in over an hour. I need to know this in order to tell whether or not there's still a problem.

No, for me it usually happens after I reply to a thread, even if the reply is just a one-liner.

It's not a huge deal, as I can just log back in. It just has my curiosity piqued.

I haven't had trouble with the forum, but my problem while recruiting still persists.

For the last several days, pretty consistently, I'll be reading the forum for 10-20 minutes, then write a post of my own, then hit "Submit". At that point, the post goes up on the board, but I've just been logged out of the forum.
