Stéphane Auger lets one by as Kebec drops out of the AOHC.
In by far one of the most-grueling seasons of KHL-1 to date,
some KHL-ers are preparing to head back out on the road
for the start of the WCoH, so soon after the AOHC

CALIX CITY — The return to the norm in Kebecois hockey is going to be a hard turn for many Kebecois hockey players who have been thru hell-on-ice with one of the toughest Kebecois international tournaments-cycle to date - the junior championships (for those playing at the collegiate-level), the Atlantian Oceania regional championships, being the sixth edition of the AOHC and finally the upcoming 33rd edition of the World Cup of Hockey, Coach Alan Foye's first introduction to an international audience rather than the regional one he debuted at. Included, there are also plans for a Kebecois invite-only four-nation cup to be announced later by Hockey Kebec, an attempt to grow Alan Foye's coaching-era and jump-start this new bit of hockey that seems to be coming to Kebec, not to mention, the domestic season will be running to, Hockey League-2 and the main attraction, the now-famous Kebec Hockey League-One. So far, we've seen some of the best Kebec has shown in quite some time, from the drama surrounding Fabien De Saint-Pierre to Alan Foye's surprising rise with the Kebecois national team.

We'll start off with an impromptu look at Kebec's performance in the 13th edition of the World Junior Hockey Championships, this was supposed to be Hockey Kebec's start off their slow bid for prominence among the multiverse's hockey elite. Hockey Kebec was awarded hosting rights in last-April 2039, winning 50% of the vote, enough needed to declare them hosts of the WJHC. Hockey Kebec as such quickly organized the tournament to be hosted in January of 2040, to start off the year with a bang, and it was quickly seen as a newly invigorated Kebecois junior team, coached by second-cycle Elejamian, Samuel Philidor managed to easily walk into he WJHC knockouts on superb footing, escaping with ease with only a relatively small blemish, a 1-nil loss to the Elejamie side in the second game. Porthos De Triene lead the way with 14 goals during the tournament, he would add six during the first game of the knockout stage in which Kebec utterly laid waste to Elejamie to the tune of a 8-3 demolition/goal-fest at Bay Athletics Arena in Calix City. However, Kebec yet again failed to trump the Novaya Zemlya team, losing in successive games in the best-of-three semifinals, once again unable to conquer the bears from the north, unfortunately, to add to the heap, Kebec lost to Norrehavn 5-3 in the 3rd-place play-off, leaving the Kebecois junior side without a trophy after two tourneys. However, many said this was a successful improvement from their maiden appearance, Kebec managed to reach the semi-finals in their second appearance, able to tangle with big foes such as Elejamie, however, their group-stage is commonly considered to have been one of the weaker ones.

Now, the real tournament of the early year, the sixth edition of the Atlantia Oceania Hockey Championships was sort of bitter-sweet for a lot of fans, while a lot was accomplished in terms of Kebecois hockey and growing its brand around the world, once again, the Kebecois team suffered from hiccups, unable to overcome their quarter-final curse and once again crashed out with a stunning 2-nil loss, putting their march towards greatness on hold for at least another edition. However, that wasn't the main story of the competition, the main story remains Fabien De Saint-Pierre's stunning retirement from international hockey which he confirmed in a press-release after Kebec's loss to Komarov-Thomiya, looking rather remorseful, we gained powerful snippets from his words, "...I didn't want to go out like this...", "...We let the fans down, we let the coach down, most importantly we let ourselves down..." - he looked rather teary-eyed in his final international press conference as he finalized his moving on from the national team. Hockey Kebec has announced plans to retire his now-famous number four jersey on a senior-level and his iconic number-21 jersey at the juniors level, both jerseys will be raised in the rafters of whatever new stadium that Hockey Kebec intends to build now that they have an excuse to build a new one with plans for an invitational-only Odin Cup in the works.

Now we move on to the upcoming World Cup of Hockey - the question is not how Alan Foye will do - which in itself is an important topic but rather how the national team will do in the post-De Saint-Pierre-era, the charismatic right-wing will be leaving a hole to fill on the team. Of course, that's not to say we're not going to see the emergence of a new star on the Kebecois scene, Mathieu Gribelin is too old to fill the spot of Kebecois pre-eminent star at 30 years of age, but Estience Bescond and Mineto are two wingers in their primes, Bescond at 24 is the first female to start on a Kebecois line and is quickly gather accolades left and right, in the last KHL-1-season, she was voted as the leagues' all-star left-wing of the season, she also scored the most goals last season, registering 56 - so far this season, halfway thru, she's reached 17, while not as godly, certainly an accomplishment in her own right. Another question remains how Kebec will move on with Stéphane Auger - arguably Kebec's best-ever goalie set to retire himself from international hockey, he has already said he will not participate in the World Cup of Hockey, he plans to bow out at the planned invitation-only Kebeecois-organized Odin Cup, leaving Nathan Delacroix or perhaps Marien Niel to fill the spot as staring goaltender. Delacroix while the younger of the pair is the far-more recognized player, a back-up to Auger while a member of the Keldax Tridents, he was transferred to the Mercedinian side Zoloroni City Icers for a sum of N$8.5-million where he promptly became the head honcho of the Icers goalies, guiding them to a comfortable fourth-place finish. Meanwhile, Niel is quickly establishing himself as a perennial candidate for the Goalie of the Year-award, while the Sacula Flats Thunder are the worst team in the KHL-1, he is by far one of the best goalies in the league, probably the only reason that Sacula Flats haven't lost every single one of their games. Finally, be on the lookout for the rise of Alan Foye and his unorthodox coaching, we'll see how he does in his WCoH debut appearance.

Finally, plans have been finalized for the first-ever invitation-only Odin Cup which is proposed to be held in Kebec for its first-ever tourney, a four-nation -pre-WCoH event, the Odin Cup is planned to be utilized as a WCoH warm-up getting three nations plus Kebec in the feel for international hockey. For the inaugural tourney, Savojarna, Mercedini and Qasden have been invited to Sario to play at the ancient and creaking Sario National Hall alongside Kebec for the Odin Cup, all proceeds are to be donated to charity. And finally, to start up the pre-WCoH rumor mill, there is information floating around that Savojarna and Kebec's respective governing hockey administrations have been in talks over a co-bid for the 34th edition of the World Cup of Hockey, something neither side has denied or confirmed.

KWS out.

SEASON II
Regular Season - Part 1/2

Hockey Ligue 2, Kebec's backyard feeder-league for the KHL-1 got under way for its third season of play, considered by many to be one of the up-and-coming second-tier leagues, the HL2 had seen last season, Voltmorgrad S.C. and Clube de Calix S.C. had found themselves promoted to the big boys in the KHL-1. Now, in HL2, there were two new teams to join the weaklings, the Ten Mountains Mountaineers and Sario Elite Warriors, the two teams who last season failed in the KHL-1, finishing 16th and 15th respectively in the league. Now, these teams join the other fourteen teams in the HL2 to fight for the guaranteed promotion spot and the promotion/relegation play-off spot that HL2 offers for prominent teams to join the next league. Now, as we begin play, we expect to see a fair amount of pushing and shoving along with wonderful play from the future teams of the KHL-1, its time to get this show on the road.

With half the season gone, Inglewood Strange have emerged as the team to beat, followed two games out of first-place and in the play-off spot by the Eckerbridge Roar, last seasons' KHL-1 worst team. The Strange have stringed together a mighty season worthy of the Gods, with an impressive 10 out sixteen possible wins, they remain the class of the HL2 and sit at the top of the leader-boards. However, they were unable to crack Clube de Calix S.C.'s record for number of points halfway thru a HL2 season, they would've needed only one more win - 11 to tie the previous record. However, for the other demoted side, the Ten Mountains Mountaineers sit four places down in 5th place and they seem anxious to make a comeback of their own.

SEASON II
Regular Season - Part 2/2

Hockey Ligue 2's second season of action continued as the final stretch of games continued with many teams clamoring for the coveted top two spots for a chance to get into the KHL-1, there was a chance of a brewing war as a budding rivalry between the Inglewood Strange and the Ten Mountains Mountaineers seemed to explode on the ice as the two teams went at it as they battled each other four times during the season, the other KHL-1 team that had been relegated last season, the Sario Elite Warriors were struggling after coming off a terrible first-half to the season, many claimed it would be impossible for them to right the ship, instead hoping to play for pride and come up next year, so it was decided, the top two teams would have to duke it out to see who would get the automatic qualifier.

As the season continues, it has become obvious as we draw to a close that the Inglewood Strange have the skill and stamina to run away with the HL2 championships and finally break thru the barrier and play in the KHL-1 next season, coached by former national team head coach, Quentin Vaugrenard, Vaugrenard has seemed to slowly recoup his name, slowly guiding Inglewood to promotion and rebuilding his image as a failed coach, after his many stumbles including the embarrassment as national team head coach and his second-year collapse as coach of the Big Bay Hawks, he's seemed to have righted the ship - giving the Inglewood Strange a chance of coming back.

KHL-1

REVIVAL OF FORTUNE

- By François Spanghero

VOLTMORGRAD-ON-PATTERSON Ah, Big Bay hoisted their second-consecutive title, on the wings of (pun-intended) the stellar defense that was the Savojarn Grigori Kirov who continues to defy age and expectations, rounding off a season in which the supremacy of the Bay City-squad was questioned a numerous amount of times. Whether or not they'd be able to stay in titp-top shape remained the question for many Big Bay supporters, even coach Ray Mariott who had stabilized the ship last year was in question for whether or not he was the long-term solution for a side which had never not-appeared in the final-stage of the KHL-1. However, a stunning rendition of talent was amassed for the final stages as Big Bay galloped to a well-deserved title and sent the city into a mass-celebration akin to last year's. Now, the question as a new seen dawns on the horizon is how the teams - or well, the other fifteen teams in the league wish to respond and bounce-back. The supremacy of Big Bay has in the years past has grown - any team the consecutively-appears in the finals has done something well, and other teams have lost talent, Keldax, last year's valiant competitor missed the playoffs most-noticeably.

Image
Voltmorgrad S.C.'s Adrian Attersons (15) during
morning-practice for todays' game

Free-agency was a quiet one this year for the KHL-1 until only a few weeks ago, the big trade happening as Keldax traded-up, sending a Season 5 first-round pick and famous netminder Stéphane Auger to the Albertain Mutants to bag Season MVP Ayaal Ismaat of Mercedini, a blockbuster trade, the Mutants who enyoed an amazing season certainly were forced to reconsider their future, moving on from the one-and-done year of Ismaat. Ismaat will now join national team left-winger Estienne Bescond who in her own right was also a key piece for the Keldax Tridents, contributing forty goals and thirty-three assists to the struggling team. Adding Ismaat should trigger a goal-fest for the Tridents, a 57-goal player, he also added a nice, little 52-assists to his mark. If Élie Boutet, a reliable player who has since fallen on a slue of injuries can revamp her game, hopefully, the Keldax Tridents will have one of the most-potent attacks in the history of the league. Of course, one has to look out for the likes of the Calix City Makos who have Stephen Del Rio, the young Phonecian who showed sparks of bravery when added to the mix with the best center in the country, Mathieu Gribelin. Highly-touted Claude Poulin meanwhile in Cortana SC has failed to live up tot he hype surrounding him now, four years ago, the question on whether he will truly be able to dictate the game remains to be seen, there is much to worry about in handing him the full-reigns in Cortana.

A really quiet offseason which netted no trades aside from the blockbuster we spoke of earlier had our nation's hockey fans begging for anything, anything - 'tis why we turn to the smaller leagues, HL2 and of course it proved yet-again why it is so entertaining, a smash-bang of an ending saw three teams tie for fourt place, two tie for second place and then the Inglewood Strange laying it out down the long stretch, putting together key victory after key victory. Quenin Vaugrenard...yes, the same coach that was fired by Big Bay only two years ago guided Inglewood to automatic promotion to the big boys' club, he'll get himself a second chance to prove he can handle playing with the big clubs, he no-doubt fell apart two seasons ago, however, it should also be counted it was thanks to him that the Big Bay Hawks went to their first Odin Cup four years ago, even now, he remains a big part of their lore. Expect the Strange to be..well - strange, its not going to be a perfect season, however, a 10-14th place showing will be decent enough for them in their first year. Expect also these HL2 players to change quickly and mature down the stretch, we're talking about a team that was able to reel off eight-straight victories in a row, we can't discount that.

Next, we saw a bloody-depressing Promotion/Relegation Play-off between the Pemberton Geckos and the Ten Mountains Mountaineers, hoping for a goalsfest, we were instead treated to a snoozefest, four goals scored over six games in regular-time. This is a depressing occurrence, as the Geckos managed to just barely scrape by and remain within the league, there were so many key questions we were left asking ourselves after this series, how would the Mountaineers respond being pushed back into HL2, could they rise and run the table once more? Now, we're left looking at a what-if?~ - scenario, its obvious now Coach Lecerf is in a win it-or-leave it scenario, four-straight losing seasons don't bode well for a coach like him. Lecerf has also been given a team ownership cares nothing about, the team's key pieces were all shipped off in the second season, remember, we cannot forget, the Geckos are the team that drafted Fabien De Saint-Pierre, yes...THAT Saint-Pierre. We're talking about the G.O.A.T. of Kebecois hockey, the one who symbolizes what all Kebecois children want to be. So, one cannot really blame Lecerf for the failure that has happened, perhaps a HL2 team will allow him the chance he needs to right the ship.

On to another one, there's serious questions and also doubts for Hockey Kebec, the governing body of hockey in Kebec, after years of promises, the World Cup of Hockey remains a title in which the Kebecois side has yet to knock wood on. Let alone make it to the semi-finals, we saw Rau Fregan win Hockey Kebec Commissioner elections early last month, he's said development must continue and the export of Kebecois talent must grow, so, predictions are in place concerning exactly where the placement of the organization is. One can wonder and hope if Fregan is in his right mind, taking the reigns from Felton Parstinson who is out, Fregan certainly has a lot of work ahead of him, in resurrecting an organization that simply seems to be failing in each attempt it makes to take the next step. However, there's hope, with reaching a key agreement for the national team, hope is on the way concerning the rebounding fortunes of Kebecois hockey. We can only look towards the future and pray to the Gods that surely Hockey Kebec is ready.

Finally, the national team will have some tests coming-up, with the 2042 World Cup of Hockey looming ahead in two years, Cosumarite coach Alan Foye will no-doubt look to get the national team up-and-gunning again, certainly, his last coaching appearance was one of positivity, he guided the national team to the Round-of-16, yes, this is the same nation that went 1-1-8 ten-ish? years ago. There's much positivity on the horizon, however, national team legend Fabien De Saint-Pierre, the man who has fabled with Savojarna and now Mercedini will turn 34 by the time the WCoH rolls around, the question now looms - can and will he be fit and of proper health to guide the nation? And if so, will that be his final parade in a Kebecois uniform - his move from the fast-pace SHS to Orga HC in the Mercedinian Super League should set an example concerning the future for him, Orga HC broke the bank to bag him and went on to finish third with him in the line-up. Now, the question should be, who will succeed him as a legend? Mineto? Bescond? The future is in their hands, and Alan Foye will need to build the team no longer around De Saint-Pierre but around the next talent.

But now, y'all don't care about the national team for two more years, your team is still on the ice and its local, that's the real bothersome need your anxiously awaiting. The fans everywhere - they're wondering how? Who? When? There's still a mighty-good season out there that has yet to start, with Big Bay coming off an impressive twopeat, they're certainly hungry for more. So, lets be prepared as we get redy for the 64-game grind that is the K-H-L-1.

Keep Pounding
Inside the Grizzlies' exciting rebuild

Dominique Rémy (No. 23) battles Cortana S.C.'s Gérôme Clair.
The past two years have been tough ones for Grizzlies fans,
Two years into a rebuild, the question remains whether or not
this is an all-out tank or a slow rebuilding campaign.

EDERFIELD — Ederfield is one of the few-remaining majority-English speaking cities within Kebec, a metropolis holding 450,000-ish people give-or-take a few souls, its a city that is a bastion of the few in which English is the first language. A small-market city, the only reason it supports a KHL-1 team is due to the fact its region, within Ten Mountains Country does not support a KHL-1 full-fledged "major league" hockey team. The team itself, the Ederfield Grizzlies have remained an outlier within the KHL-1 in their four-season existence, initially a successful franchise - an HCL berth, a two divisional titles, the team has since fallen on hard times over the past-two seasons, losing key team members and losing elite coach, Johan Mikjall to cancer a year ago. The Ederfield way has quickly eroded, leaving a front office with a mixture of players, none of which were able to gel together last season, resulting in an 18-win campaign last season, also yielding the second-lowest-amount of goals scored for a team, 34, that's a bit above half of what Mercedinian scoring specialist Ayal Ismaat scored during Season 3, a startling number for a franchise who seems stuck in the influx concerning an all-out tank or a slow rebuild. The Ederfield Grizzlies have remained a mainstay within KHL-1 hockey for four seasons, many could doubt whether or not they truly remain with the failed seasons that have appeared within Season 3 and the second-half of Season 2. Bringing in Adrien Rousselot to right the problem has resulted in a failed Season 3 campaign and so far another failed campaign on the horizon, with half the season gone, an early onslaught shows a low total of ten games won thus far, the goal tally also seems a bit under par but healthier than last years, sitting at 26.

The true lack of hockey and victory for Ederfield may lie in the fact simply that Ederfield simply isn't a hockey-playing town, a town that prefers their lacrosse to hockey, while the KHL-1 has tried immensely to appeal to the Ederfield market, with the now-infamous campaign of Hockey is Lacrosse on Ice, this has thus far failed. A lackadaisical ownership within Ederfield does little to encourage the few fans who do go, owned by Sundown Corp., an electronic conglomerate in Kebec, the Grizzlies organization has been in a power-struggle with the Ederfield City Council as to a new stadium, calling the stadium of old, Metropolis Gardens too small, as such, the The Gardens at Parafai Park was built in time for the Ederfield side as a solution, barely any bigger than the Metropolis location, this has seemingly done much to anger the management more-so than before, with heavy threats being unleased by Sundown Corp. over threats to formerly relocate the franchise to a more hockey-susceptible area. The one problem however is concerning that the KHL-1 is obligated to have a team in Ederfield for five years as stipulated by the contract between the city and the Ederfield Grizzlies corporate. Proposals do exist as to cater to this, with other cities pitching proposals as to relocate the franchise, which Sundown Corp. has said it is considering, calling the Ederfield metro area, "A region not viable for our current outreach for culture".

The rebuild has been an extensive one, however, Sundown Corp., who seemingly has rich pockets has been committed to it, warding away Gareth Stubbs, a Nepharan from his Nepharan domestic club to Kebec as to be the 'future' for the Ederfield team, a slue of other young players join him in the hunt for a new team, Izzie Parvenot and also, the young, exciting product out of Atalanta Phoenix Academy, Xavier Williams who has been described as a "more-agile version of Fabien De Saint-Pierre, a slapshot specialist", Williams was invited to WCOH 35 selection camp for Kebec, with the formal roster not-yet announced, he is in the running for a key place on the team, Williams who many hail as a possible successor to the De Saint-Pierre scoring bubble left behind in the absence of him has become truly a star of sorts, gaining acknowledgment and praise for his academy gains. Currently playing on the second-line, there is much excitement for his development, many see the three of Stubbs, Parvenot and most-especially Williams as the future faces of the franchise, due to their high prices, all three were signed to maximum rookie contracts and Williams himself is an official ambassador for Sundown Corp., there truly might be much in store for these three. That's not to take away from others, Jacques Rodgers is another fine talent, snapped-up in free-agency from HK2's side, Eckerbridge Roar for a 3-season N$18 million, there's a premium on Rodgers, who's a well-liked player amongst many of the finer players in HK2, Rodgers also might be a moveable piece later, look for management to possibly dump him at the trade deadline for another skilled player or another developmental tool.

Now, the glaring question is around Gaspard Frère, the 34 year-old who's worn the 'C' on his shoulder for the past four seasons is slowly edging away, finally past his prime as goaltending specialist, he's no-longer the skilled netminder of the past, and as a man who had been expected to be the mentor of the goalies at the World Cup of Hockey, he has yet to have ever made a team and wasn't invited this year to selection-camp - a first. It can be said that this is the end of the road for him, or that its quickly-approaching, he's obviously unusable, too many injuries has plagued his short career and Sylvain Bassot is entering his prime it seems, given the reigns over the past five games, he's demonstrated abilities that Frère simply has no prayer against. Its obvious now that Frère is simply trade-bait, expect a team with numerous holes to dive for him in the offseason, he could demand a high-price during the offseason, anywhere between N$7-12 million/season is his likely minimum, currently, in his contract-year, he'll make N$18 million by the end of the season, and he can't be moved due to his no-trade clause, its safe to say he's making every bit of the money for riding the bench. As the rebuild continues in earnest for the Grizzlies, the offeseason is halfway-home, expect many looming questions to be answered, especially in the aging offense, the defense has its problems sue, but its young, the offense is on its last legs, there will be at least four faces gone from the forward-lines by season-end for the Grizzlies as management comes to terms that no players can be on the roster if they can't keep up with the high-speed tempo of the league. Low-scoring remains a chronic problem for the team, they lost to the Calix City Makos 6-1, a game in which Mathieu Gribelin scored five goals, this should symbol change is fast-approaching for the Grizzlies.

Underneath the exterior of finesse and ease, there's clearly large, looming problems for the team, a chronic failure in the front office has underlined this, exposing four years of mismanagement - paying N$16 million a year to a netminder who gives up more goals than days in a calendar year should truly alert you to the problems that continually face the Grizzlies organization. And while in recent years it seems as though its being stirred in the right direction, some things simply can't be turned, at this point, whenever and wherever they go, the Grizzlies will be laughed-at, a once-talented team which has succumbed to front-office failure. Now, as the front-office scrambles to fix the issue, they need to know - one season isn't going to solve their problems.

Its a quirky rebuild, that's for sure.

As a life-long fan of the Grizzlies, I'd like to say that we're not necessarily a bad team, we have the pieces in place to make a run at the playoffs, but we're missing an able center.

Nice, lets talk about Ederfield's one bad season but ignore Albertain's complete collapse, lmao.

Ederfield has done nothing, the minute that Sundown Corp. can sell the Grizzlies to a private ownership group, we can compete.
