I feel that current seafaring power may be out of the question, former sounds more interesting. Anyways I'll think about it for now.

Military manpower (active/reserve): 151,500 active | 50,000 reserve
Language(s): Malay (Main/National); Minang, Cham, Acehnese, Batak (Regional OL); Hakka and Min (Co-national or Co-official, likely to have official status in trade ports); Vietnamese (If taken over by Vietnam)
Map Claim (Described or via Imgur): Sumatra in its entirety
Nation description: One of the successor states of the bygone Srivijayan and Majapahit Empires. A regional power due to proximity to strait of Malacca
Main nation on NS: Might as well make this my main
How did you find out about Tiandi? (optional): I was in it twice, twice I disappeared due to lost interest or sucked into IRL hell
National History Overview: Shortly after the fall of the Srivijaya Empire and the breakup of the Javanese Majapahit Empire, the Kedatuans (Princely states) of Sumatra and the Malay peninsula began converting to the Islamic faith that was brought in by Iranian and Islamic Indian Kingdoms. These conversions were largely strategic (more trade with those of shared faith) and reserved to the nobility, as most of the populace continued to practice pre-Islamic Hindu-Buddhist traditions syncretized with Islamic (mostly Sufi) practices. Over time the various princely states began to intermarry and exchange cultures, which resulted in the unification by the Minang Sultan Mulia I under a rotational monarchical system. This consolidated some control over the Strait of Malacca which was used by Sinic powers as a passage to the West, and made it a target for many a conquering nation.
Modern day Syla is an Islamic Constitutional Rotational Monarchy (Crown rotates from regional monarch to regional monarch) with a dubiously elected parliament. Islam is rather syncretic and holds some degree of influence in society (but unlike OTL, Islam is far from puritanical), with Hinduism and Buddhism being practiced in certain areas as a plurality or majority (the Datu of Batak-Toba being Hindu-animist for example). Syla remains to be rather pluralistic and culturally diverse (multiethnic, multicultural, multireligious). The current Monarch is Mulia V of the Minang Sultanate.
During the early equivalent of the 1700s, the country has suffered from several nationalist military regimes that sought nationalizing the Strait of Malacca, historically drawing ire and sanctions from Sinic powers. Most of these issues have been resolved... or are they?

National History Overview: Korea broke off from the Chinese sphere of influence and declared itself the natural successor of China's Confucian traditions. Therefore, for about another century, it failed to commercialize or seek industrial progress. However, its abundant population and rich reserves of coal and iron allowed it to catch up rapidly and join the colonial game relatively early on - given its late adoption of market reform and merchant power. After colonizing a bunch of people Korea became a major power because getting rekt in the great war?
