Wait?! Do I really have the most points for national standings? I mean, that would be fantastic, but it doesn't seem right somehow. Plus it doesn't seem to match the individual skiier standings.

No, national standings only work when the skiers are listed by country name. There is a new doc under the link that doesn't contain them anymore and only displays the individual standings, to avoid confusion (and that doesn't accidentally leak outdated RP bonuses anymore - that was a very bad idea and not intended to happen at all. Shouldn't upload such things just after a 8h bus ride home from NL without sleeping much...)

Thank you for hosting this. I'm going to be moving my skiing RP over to the Olympics thread now, but I really did enjoy this and hope we keep it going.

It is cooling down (as I type this, Amsterdam experiences a weird streak of two-digit temperatures and today is a beautiful autumn day... but it is overall cooling down!) so it is also time to kick the skiing off again! I decided that this thread shall be a continuous signup and discussion thread just to make things easier - the OP explains the signup procedure for Season 2, but for those who want a short breakdown again:

Savojarna wrote:Rider Signup
Deadline: NONE (riders can be signed up at any time during the season)
You can sign up as many riders as you want, which have to be divided into male and female (this should also correspond to the Olympics, so I decided to split it the same way as it is split there). For each rider you enter, you have to post their ratings for speed and technical skill. These can each be a value between 1 and 9, and they need to add up to no more than 10. Speed determines how good your rider is at gliding and managing high speeds. High rates could be reached by classical downhill specialists. Skill determines how well your rider can do turns, stay on their skis and do jumps. High rates of skill are reached by slalom and GS specialists, but some downhillers also reach good skill levels! The signup should contain:
- Your nation name + trigram
- Your male riders + their rating (Speed/Skill)
- Your female riders + their rating (Speed/Skill)
Voluntary: a default start list (see below)

Rider selection
While you can sign up as many riders in your roster as you wish, you can only nominate a certain number per race. For an individual race, the following restrictions apply:
    - for each nation: 5 riders
    - for the 5 best nations in the Nation's World Cup Ranking (NWCR): 6 riders
You select your riders by either creating a default signup list as in the example signup or by doing a specific selection at the end of your RP/as a single post (if you RP, you are encouraged to add it to your RP post). If you have a default signup list, you can still do a specific one, which will be used instead. If there is no specific selection, the default list will be used. If there is no default list, the first four/five/six riders off your team signup will be used.

Example signups, signup forms and info on the venue signup can be found in the OP.

If you participated in the last ASWT and simply want to carry over your signup, that is allowed and even encouraged as it allows for some consistency and carrying over storylines. However, please quote your signup here - only posts after this post will be taken into account for ASWT 2.

Terminology
As there was a bit of confusion over the terminology in the last season, here is a short recap:

A Race
is a single scorination (for example the Men's Giant Slalom of Kallora, Savojarna; or in real life the Men's Downhill in Wengen). For doing well in a race, you receive ASWT points for the overall standings (both in the respective discipline and in the general standings). Whoever has the most points in a discipline at the end of the season receives a small trophy, whoever has the most points overall receives a big trophy.

An Event can mean two things. IC'ly, it refers to all the races conducted in one place (for example the Kallora Ski Days in Savojarna, which include four races; or in RL the Lauberhornrennen in Wengen, consisting of three different races). OOC'ly, it refers to all the races scorinated on a given day - what we would call a Matchday in other sports. ASWT standings are updated after each OOC event. IC events have no special meaning for the ASWT, but their hosts can decide to give out special prices.

Your Roster (or Team) is the entirety of your signed skiers. It can be as big as you want - a realistic size for a small country with few mountains like Croatia could be three to four riders, whereas bigger nations like Switzerland, Canada or Austria may very well have a roster of 15-20 skiers per gender. Your roster will most likely consist of some specialists for both speed races (Downhill and Super-G), some specialists for the technical disciplines (Giant Slalom and Slalom) and maybe one or two "all-rounders".

Your Delegation are the skiers of your nation who will compete in a specific race. It cannot be bigger than 5 skiers (6 if you are among the Top 5 of the ASWT Nation Ranking). As part of your signup, you can nominate a default delegation for each discipline, but you can change the delegation as often as you want. If your delegation is bigger than allowed (for example because you listed six skiers, but fell out of the Top 5), only the first five/six riders will be used. Realistically, you will mostly use the five/six skiers best suited to the race, but sometimes you may wanna use a different skier if they are in contention for the general standings and may reasonably pick up some points.

Bonus, scorination and carry-over

Scorination will happen once a week (not twice every week like in ASWT 1). For every scorination, there will be a skill modifier based on how well your rider fits the slope of the race. Additionally, there will be a bonus which amounts to 60%, administered on country basis. This bonus is divided into a RP bonus and a ranking bonus, each making up equal parts of the bonus. RP bonus will be decaying over the course of the Tour, so the key to winning is to RP consistently. The ranking bonus is attributed based on the ASWT Nation Ranking, with the teams getting a bonus based on the amounts of points they have. For the first race, the bonuses of the end of ASWT 1 will carry over to 50%, but will be deleted following completion of the first event.

Extra Info
Alpine Hangar at Stoughberry Tops is a facility among some of Vangaziland's most pristine ski grounds. The small town of Stoughberry Tops is named for a ridge of three peaks. Mount Vang is the largest central peak. It provides a varied enough range of slopes to produce several unique courses. It's sharp ridges make for a highly technical course. The mountain is known to be a rough place for most who visit. Slalom runners will need to use as much skill as they can muster to navigate the course. There is even a mogul course on a nearby side hill.

Nation name: Vangaziland
Town: North East Imperial Hills

Extra Info
Most Vannish skiing occurs around Imperial Hills in Central Vangaziland. Many tall mountains feed the two large rivers which cut across the continent with their annual melt. Many hills have at least one ski course. The best courses are on Mt. Skorn. An Olympic quality set of downhill courses run along the sweeping slopes. Skorn is less jagged than Vang. It provides lots of chances for skiers to pick up speed. Larger crowds are expected at the suburb of Imperial Hills. Vangaziland's most populated city in Auster sits only a few dozen miles to the South. Many will trek north to watch the international event. The course used for the slalom is a new design.

With the recent influx of new participants, and reflecting my personal availability, I have decided to close signups for venues on the 13th of January midnight CET, and present the schedule as well as open the IC on the day after. The first scorination will occur on the 20th of January in the evening (CET). Exact cutoff times will be provided in the IC once it is up.

Throughout the entire event, signups for skiers and teams remain open - you can join us whenever you like and your skiers will join the ASWT at the next race available. However, as points are accumulated over the entire ASWT, your chances to do well in the general rankings will of course be lower if you join after the tour has started.

Edit: Kelssek and Bysantia are accepted as signups. Given that Bysantia plans to host a complete set of events, they will take over the ASWT final from Bergheim, Savojarna for now. As part of this, there would also be a nation's event hosted in Bysantia, using the same modifiers as the slalom (unless they wish to change this). The Bergheim events will be partially contested as part of the normal calendar, and partially moved to another venue within Savojarna.

If someone else wants to bid for the final event, they are free to do so and it will be decided when the schedule is released. The decision for the IC hosting of the final event will be taken by me, based on the history and prestige of the venue in question both in terms of description provided in the signup and the nation's skiing/winter sport history on NS.

MT socialist (mostly) island state - Cultural mixture of Scandinavia, Finland and Russia -Exports iron, steel, silver and wood - Low fantasy in terms of animal species - Sports-loving - 22.8 million inhabitants.

The adjective is Savojar; Savojarnan is not a word!
I am a student of (European) politics, ice hockey fan, left-wing communist bordering on anarchy, and European federalist. Enjoy!
