I was thinking that a good thing to have would be comment tags, so you could keep notes inside factbooks of what does what, or what you need to add later, without actually adding to the viewable factbook, just like comments in HTML. Just like [comment]This text isn't viewable in the actual factbook[/comment] or like [!!]this is a comment[/!!]. I dunno what the format would be, but I'd personally find a comment tag useful.

I would be in favour of this, it seems like something that could be very helpful for players who write very detailed fact books for multiple nations.
Hello! I’m a GAer and NS Roleplayer from the United Kingdom.
My pronouns are he/him.
Any posts that I make as GenSec will be clearly marked as such and OOC. Conversely, my IC ambassador in the General Assembly is Ambassador Fortier. I’m always happy to discuss ideas about proposals, particularly if grammar or wording are in issue. I am also Executive Deputy Minister for the WA Ministry of TNP.
Kenmoria is an illiberal yet democratic nation pursuing the goals of communism in a semi-effective fashion. It has a very broad diplomatic presence despite being economically developing, mainly to seek help in recovering from the effect of a recent civil war. Read the factbook here for more information; perhaps, I will eventually finish it.

It could be added into formatting templates to explain where to put information

Precisely. Notekeeping and guides would be way easier this way.

I would highly appreciate if this were ever added
It would make maintaining factbooks I haven't touched in forever so much easier if I was able to comment/add notes on things for future references.

Would the comments be seen in the "raw" version of the factbook?

I would say so. If a feature like this were ever to be made and it was open to the entire public of NS; having only the mods being able to see these said comments would mean that they would also have to direct most of their time in finding users who would abuse it by posting inappropriate comments in factbooks.

I suggest that users should be able to view comments if they were ever added to the game because it would make things a lot more swifter with reporting and so.

Just my two cents though, I would reckon that a feature like this isn't that high in priority. I'm not a mod or anything, so I honestly don't know.

Might not be high in priority, but I also can't see it being too difficult to implement.

If it's not visible to other players, then it wouldn't be important to stop people from writing offensive things.

I don't know that I would want moderators to waste time fielding through endless comments to find ones that are abusive or spammy. Ito would definitely not be fair to them to have this forced upon them. They already do a lot of work and it is only fair to recognize that.

I don't think you caught the bit where other people (probably) wouldn't see the comments. Like my original post, it'd be like HTML comments, only you can see them.

Sounds like an interesting idea, like a little notebook to keep your plans. Though I think it should be called notes instead of comments, because comments are typically other people publicly commenting on something.

If you keep copies of your factbooks offline as documents, too, then you could include the notes in those anyway.
The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

This is both more convenient and more efficient than that, though. Especially if you're writing a particularly long factbook and need to keep a lot of notes as you save and then go back to edit when you're formatting and whatnot.

If you're writing a "particularly long" factbook then doing so offline, so you don't lose the contents if the site logs you out or some other glitch occurs, is probably a better idea than writing it directly in NS anyway.

That's fair. It'd still be good for writing templates and the like, and I'd use it for notekeeping regardless.

This idea is difficult to assess because two different flavours have been presented and people are saying they support it without saying which one.

If the idea is for comments that can only be seen by the author, it can't be used to share templates.

If the comments can be publicly seen in raw mode, there are some moderation implications.

I would say visible to author only. This is because in templates italicised text could be used for the same effect.
