After the gaining of Allanean Protectorate status by Russia, the search began for ways to reinvigorate local industry and bring up the quality of life standard for the citizens of the Russian Federation – or, as it would now been known again, the Russian Empire, formally a constitutional monarchy under Cassiopeia and Alexander Blaken-Kazansky. Part of the solution was the signing of a production agreement between the Baltic Shipyards, a division of UAC, and Polaris Aerospace Surface division for the production and marketing of its Glacier-class icebreaker under Baltic Shipyards’ auspices, with all marketing and production carried out by United Shipbuilding Corporation, and the profits from regular and DPR sales split 50-50%. Marketing and production costs were to be borne entirely by USC or future holders of the contract.

From the beginning the Glacier-class was to be fitted with the finest features of modern icebreakers. It can be controlled remotely to reduce crew fatigue for long-term operations and is equipped with remote-controlled manipulators to resolve accidents and malfunctions. (It should be noted that in event of a serious reactor malfunction, it is unlikely that any present crew could do anything about it either).

The ship is capable of carrying a small amount of tourists interested in witnessing the work of atomic icebreaker ships.

Due to the ship’s enormous size, it is capable of clearing the way for large supertankers, as well as working with some of the thickest ice in existence.

As usual, it is fully equipped with the WA-mandated counterpiracy equipment, arms lockers, automatic cannon, Rolling Airframe Missile launchers, and high-pressure, remote-controlled turreted water hoses for use as less-lethal weapons (although we would not want to be hosed with water in the sort of climate icebreakers regularly need to operate in).

The Glacier-class icebreaker is not a weapons system. Baltic Shipyards, USC, Allanean Defense Exports and Polaris Aerospace Surface Division cannot be held liable for any attempts to use it in direct combat, and for any deaths or injuries that may result. Nor can any of the above can be held liable for any deaths or injuries resulting from use of the onboard counterpiracy weapons system, including pneumonia, hypothermia, drowning, and other injuries that can occur from the use of the less-lethal weapons system!

The manufacturer is only liable for standard product liability, such as may be said to emerge from a design or manufacturing flaw that has occurred prior to the shipping of the Glacier-class to the customer, and will not be liable for any problems that result from unauthorized modifications to the ship or misuse the above in conditions for which it is not designed!
