The nation of Schottia extents a warm welcome to the Sports Regionally homeless, and apologises in advance for the rain. If you are one of the 28 lucky participants listed below, you may start posting your rosters and pre-MD1 RPs... now! Any OOC discussion can be continued here.

Format
Matches will be scored using xkoranate 0.3.3, the SQIS formula, and additive style modifiers. In keeping with the first Independent Associations Cup, WCC ranks will be used, but will be scaled down to allow for lower ranked nations, who RP consistently, to have a decent chance. With this in mind, RP grading will be generous, emphasising quality over quantity, with additional points awarded for the posting of a roster. Note; WCC nations will not receive their KPB bonus until they have posted a roster.

This 28-team tournament will consist of an initial 4 team round robin phase, with the top two in each group progressing to the round of sixteen, along with the two best third place finishers.

Schottia | National Info

Situated in the region of Tyran, Schottia is a small diverse country of 6.6 million people. Throughout the region, Schottia is best known for its progressive social policies, far left politics, and whisky distilleries. The nation is a group of five small islands, located in the middle of the Bara Sea, north of Cacerta and off the west coast of Acrea. The southern Schottic landscape is largely characterised by arable farmland, pine forests, and windswept pebble beaches. The North Island, by contrast, is almost entirely made up of rugged mountain ranges and bleak scree-slopes, where the towns and cities, for the most part, hug the narrow bands of flat land around the coast.

Schottia was once the easternmost part of an Ossorian Empire, the remnants of which, still stretch around much of what are now the continents of Eracura and Siduri. Schottia broke away from the Ossorians in 1867, following internal unrests, which saw the small fledgling nation take the first steps down the road towards becoming a republic. Schottia as we know it today, was constituted in 1922, following a workers' uprising, out of which the country's socialist politics was born.

Today, Schottia is a small, peaceful nation; with thriving fishing, tourism, and drinks industries. Most people living in South Schottia are ethnically Schottic or Ossorian, although particularly in the bigger cities, you will meet a range of people from all over the region, who have come to either study or settle, and made the country their home. The North Island of Schottia is similar, however it also has a large Shalumite-German population, as well as pockets of French speaking communities.

Travel
Getting to Schottia is reasonably straight forward, if not a little time consuming. Despite the fact that the country consists of five islands, it is unlikely that many visitors will arrive by sea, due to the distances involved. Almost everyone arriving for the tournament, either fans, or players, will fly into Handon International Airport. H.I.A handles almost all of the nation's incoming flights, as well as being a main stop off northwest in and out of the region. Anyone arriving by sea will most likely dock at the ferry terminal in Granton, just to the north of Handon.

Travel within Schottia is usually pretty painless. Public transport is well funded, and free bus and tram services make getting around the cities cheap, and stress free. For longer distances, all major towns and cities are connected by a high-speed rail service. Schottic citizens pay high levels of tax, but one of the plus sides is that they have a public transport system that works.

Languages
The official languages of Schottia are Scots, English, German, and French, however, English is the one most likely to be heard in the streets. Most people living in Schottia are multilingual, speaking combinations of the four national languages, depending on the area they were born. In addition to this, there is a heavy emphasis on languages in schools from the age of five onwards, meaning that it is not unusual for Schottians to speak up to four or five of the main regional languages with some degree of fluency.

Weather
Schottia mostly has a temperate maritime climate, with warm summers typically around 25°C, and cool snowy winters ranging from -8 to +8°C. Whatever time of the year your fans and players are visiting Schottia, it is likely to be wet, and it's perhaps best to bring an umbrella. The tournament will take place during the Schottic summer time, so temperatures will generally be towards the upper end of the scale. Those matches played at Danu Parc in La Gorla will be slightly cooler however, 10 to 12°C.

Currency and Shopping
The currency in Schottia is the Schottic Pound. The current exchange rate is just under two NS dollars to the pound, meaning that certain luxury goods might seem expensive. On the flip side of this, food in the supermarkets is available at cost price, as is clothing in government stores - the same can also be said for most non-luxury items. Schottia isn't exactly one of the world's main shopping centres, and strict rules on advertising can often mean that the High Streets seem a little drab to those more used to eye-catching posters, and flashy billboards. That said, the larger more international cities of Soessch and Handon have their fair share of fashion outlets, and foreign eateries. While these regulations might have limited the expansion of international businesses, the gap in the market has been filled up small independent clothing boutiques, family-run bars, and restaurants.

The most international of all Schottia's cities is its capital, Handon. The diverse population of 1.1 million includes over 200,000 students who attend the city's four universities and five technical colleges. The harbour city is a unique blend of the old and the new, with modern buildings slotted into gap sites around 17th and 18th century architecture. Of all Schottia's towns and cities Handon is by far the most vibrant, with award winning restaurants, clubs, and bars; as well as no shortage of excellent hotels and apartments. For most people in the region, Handon is synonymous with Schottia, and it is often the case that visitors rarely take time to see some of the more remote, rural communities. There is a good chance that many of the visiting fans will choose to station themselves in Handon regardless of where their team is playing, due to the public transport links. Soessch and the rest of the North Island is reachable in twenty minutes by train, through the Handon tunnel, and South Berwick is around 50 minutes away. Built on a peninsula, the south of the city is what many would consider to be the 'centre.' As well as being the location of Harbour Hill Stadium, it is also home to all of the main administrative buildings, and the more affluent parts of the city. Duke Street Stadium, home to Schottic rugby, isn't far from Harbour Hill. While it's not quite as shiny and new as it's neighbour, it is still the third larges stadium in the country. The large urban centre is likely to be slightly warmer than other parts of the country, and in the summer, the temperatures can reach the high 20°s. However, the costal location means that the weather can be unpredictable, so visitors should prepare for wind and rain.

There aren't too many good reasons to visit the town of Lochend, unless it is football related. Twelve years ago an abandoned industrial site on the outskirts of the town was chosen as the home to Schottia's MPL side Cornellians. The site has its own hotels and bars, as well as a train station, so that visitors don't have to endure the town itself. Although Lochend is a small town, it is not particularly quaint or charming, made up of rows of rather unattractive pebble dashed houses. However, the time of the tournament should make for some pleasant train journeys out from Handon with the fields and hills awash with a patchwork of colour.

Marionville might be just a few miles outside of Handon, but you could be forgiven for thinking it was another country. Small, peaceful, with quiet streets and miles of canal ways, it's always been a place for those who enjoy a quieter life. The Allen Dixon Arena is one of the country's older stadiums, but it has a charm to it, with the old turnstiles and corrugated roofing. The Arena is situated to the north of the town, and is about half an hour by tram from the centre.

The north of Handon has forever been the industrial heartland of the city, with the Ports at Granton, Port Sebastian, and Port Patrick, once a big part of the nations shipbuilding tradition. For that reason, the area has always been set apart slightly from the rest of the city to the south, whose port was always more commercial, and brought of a mix of traders and different peoples. The north of the city is characterised - particularly around Dyerton Stadium - by neat rows of flats, one up one down, and well-tended front gardens. The Port Sebastian area can be a little bleak, with more traditional workingmen's drinking establishments, and fewer commercial properties. Most fans will probably stay in the city centre to the south, however there are plenty of small inns and B&B ran by cheerful retired couples, should they want more of a local flavour. Galloway Lane lane, home to Port Patrick United, is literally a stone's throw from Dyerton, and offers a more rustic experience.

Soessch is the second city of Schottia and principle town of The North Islands. Like Handon, it has top quality facilities and services, however with a population of 600,000, a little on a smaller scale. The city sits at the foot of a huge mountain range, and occupies a long narrow stretch of land between the cliffs and the sea. Soessch is split down the middle by a wide river, which is crossed by the city's twenty-seven bridges. The architecture differs slightly from that of Handon, as the predominately German-speaking population made their mark in the 1700s. In the Winter, the city is famous for its huge Mid-Winter Market, but in the Summer, the temperatures are far more agreeable.* Sheltered beneath the North Mountains, Soessch will be slightly colder, yet also more sheltered than Handon. Gannon Park is situated to the north of the city, a little further from the main tourist centres.

La Gorla is a spectacular city, situated high in the North Island Mountains, and is the Principle-town in the traditionally French speaking region of Schottia. La Gorla's ninety thousand inhabitants are fiercely passionate about their local team, La Gorlions, which they at times treat more like their national side, rather than an SPL club. The plus sides to playing in La Gorla are: the beautiful stone buildings, the snow capped mountain views in all four directions, and the scenes that wouldn't look out of place on postcards. The down side however, is the altitude, the remoteness, and the fact that the evenings can get very cold. Danu Parc is a small, square, traditional football stadium, situated in the heart of the town. The location contributes to the fact that football in La Gorla feels very much part of the community. Travelling between Soessch and La Gorla, takes around an hour and a half depending on the weather. As the crow flies, it is more or less straight up, but the need to traverse a steep mountain road means it can take far longer.

Schottia's New Island is the southernmost of the five islands making up this small nation. It is accessible from the South Schottic mainland, via rail and road bridges, which themselves, are just twenty minutes drive from Handon. The Town of South Berwick has a population of 50,000, and despite a reputation for being a bit backwards, is actually a very modern, small city. The city is best known for its surrounding beaches, sea birds, and its small university - as well as its two SPL sides. Gauld Park is a modern 15,000 seater stadium, and home to Berwick United. It is built on the edge of the city, not far from the university playing fields. The Rock Ground, home to New Island FC, is build right next to the South Berwick harbour, under the shadows of Snubbeak Rock, which dominates the seascape around the city. There are no shortages of places to stay, or eateries in South Berwick, for those who will consider locating themselves there. However, there is no doubt that the teams playing here have drawn a bit of a short straw, if the hustle and bustle of the city is their thing.

New Belfast is a former whaling port, and owes much of its prominence to a time when the trade was one of the nation's main industries. This maritime legacy has contributed much to the architecture and traditions of the city, which boasts a population of 240,000. After going through a period of decline in the 60s and 70s, New Belfast has recently seen an up turn in fortune, largely due to its arts and culture, in particular its art college. The city centre in an eclectic mix of traditional working class communities, sat alongside student areas and cultural institutions, as the old industrial coastline and disused buildings gradually transition. Ashley Road is one of the oldest stadiums in Schottia, and is built just off the High Street, literally sandwiched between the gardens of the old tenement buildings. Parking there can be difficult, so it is recommended that fans walk from the train station; a journey of fifteen minutes.

The South of Handon, like the Quayside, is one of the more respectable parts of the city. Built over what was once a royal estate, dating back to the days of Ossorian occupation, it is still often referred to as Kings Park. Lochely Green is a small to medium sized stadium, build in the late nineties, which is renowned for it's noisy atmosphere. It's only a short distance from the hotels along the sea front, and a train or bus ride from the centre of Handon.

Lammerton is situated right in the centre of the largest of Schottia's five islands, South Schottia. With its quaint, winding, coble streets - bars and coffee shops - the city is regarded one of the most liveable in the region. The county of the same name was an independent Principality up until the mid seventeenth century and retains something of a distinct culture - you won't hear much Scots of German spoken in Lammerton, it's largely going to be English. As well as it's football teams (of which the residents are fiercely proud) the city is best known for the huge, late medieval castle that dominates the skyline. The Lammerton City Ground is a medium sized, very modern stadium, located on the outskirts of the city, and is readily accessible by both car or bus.

Perched on a narrow shelf of rock at the most south-westerly point of Schottia, Port James' 230,000 inhabitants are afforded stunning views of the northern seas. Although the city is eleven kilometres long, the natural geography of the landscape means that the is just over one kilometre wide. For centuries the city's deep-sea port has served as the base of the nations navy. Port James is also located deep in the heart of the wine-producing region and is one of the oldest settlements in Schottia. The City of Port James Stadium one of the largest football grounds in Schottia, and while it has perhaps seen better days, it's close proximity to the cliff-edge makes renovating the north and west stands very difficult. The stadium is bang in the centre of the city, and only a short walk from most of the accommodation.

*Schottia's atheist population don't celebrate religious festivals, so rather than Christmas they celebrate Mid-Winter (or the winter solstice) on the 23rd.

The Academy of Space is home to a fully enclosed, gravity containing event facility known as the "Extraterrestrial Dome of Sport". The dome is constructed of clear plasticized glass allowing a clear view of the stars and planets above. The dome rotates with respect to its surroundings during matches for enhanced viewing, though any nearby stars (Stars within 2 or fewer Astronomical Units) will remain on the backside of the playing field to prevent glaring and temperature control. The Dome of Sport also serves as the official training facility for Team Space in preparation for international competition and away games.

Spiel: Coming from the barren, spray strewn archipelago of Mareibat, Brian Ashgrove's national team is largely comprised of players from Halholzer United, the only club of any repute in the archipelago, and players from the ANL and leagues further abroad. Mareibat has always punched above its weight internationally, but inconsistency in appearing in tournaments has always hampered them. However, with the new, lower-key ethos at the MBC, hopefully this is a team which can compete at a decent level.

TEAM HISTORY
This is the ninth soccer/football tournament of any kind that Drawkland has officially competed in in the multiversal stage. After Qualifying for World Cup 77 AND 78, the Kick Corps has pretty much quelled any doubts about whether or not they're actually good, and solidified it with their best showing in a World Cup group stage in World Cup 79.
This is the official form of the roster to feature a Reserve Roster in addition to the Main Roster. The Main Roster has featured a few changes from earlier tournaments and the Reserve Roster has also featured some new faces. This is the lineup personally selected by the Drawkian International Sporting Council (DISC) to represent Drawkland: those chosen are undeniably the best at what they do and excel under the team chemistry and dynamic.
Drawkian soccer, and indeed, sporting in general, is mostly offensive-minded. This is reflected in the style indicator and in the formation. Drawkian soccer has not really been exposed to outside influences, and thus may look or feel strange to those used to "normal" football. Nevertheless, the players are still good at what they do, and prize in an enduring game, moving the ball around nearly constantly and keeping energy going, aiming to tire out the opposing team. Of course, Drawkians aren't humans, but you can read about that elsewhere. Oh yes, and Drawkian Soccer is a female-only sport. This may change, but not for a *long* time. This is because Gridiron Football is all-male, and the other two major sports, Baseball and Basketball, are mixed-gender. If there's anything a Drawkian loves, it's even formats and symmetric paradigms, hence why things shook out like they did. There are male players, but they play abroad where it's more acceptable, but they still don't get much attention.
Most of the team, including the manager, are made up from home-grown talent, coming from the highest-quality teams. However, a few have branched out to foreign leagues, mainly those of Terranea in Rushmore, that of Ceni and the Isles of Avon. More information on the players is to come later.

Baptism of Fire 64: The big event, as it was referred to, was where Drawkland finally made their foray into the World Cup Cycle. Spirits were high going into the tournament and many were slating the Drawkians to take the whole tournament before it started. A 1-1 draw to Kernovi wasn't the start they imagined, but an 0-3 win on Turkmenbasyn followed by a 1-1 draw to Amnarei-asud was enough to send Drawkland to the knockout rounds. Winning 3-2 versus Ndaku in the first round, followed by an 0-2 win on Mriin was certainly expected, but a brutal 1-2 AET loss to none other than Amnarei-asud in the Semifinal sent the Corps to their second third place matchup, which was really not where they wanted to end up. However, they delightfully made light of the situation by beating the despised Great Caledonia and North Hybernia by a 3-2 margin to at least get bronze.
World Cup 77: And, being placed in Pot 7 for their first-ever World Cup Qualifiers, it was expected Drawkland to finish mid-table. Especially with the likes of the up-and-coming power of Bonesea, the Old Guard of Jeruselem, and the Top Pots of Barunia, it would be a long shot for Drawkland to qualify. But, somehow, on amazing circumstances that lasted all the way to the final minutes of the final match against Barunia, Drawkland managed to scrape through and qualify in their first ever shot at qualification. On to World Cup 77, where they sure got annihilated by other teams, only managing to get a single point by drawing Eura 0-0, before taking big L's to Osarius and Valladares.
World Cup 78: Eager to prove the doubters wrong and qualify once more to keep the percentage at 100%, Drawkland came with fire to World Cup 78 qualifiers, admittedly in the much easier position of Pot 3. They started strong out of the gate by defeating GVH 3-1 at home. Drawkland had a pretty solid but low-point qualifying campaign, scoring big wins but also big losses (all 3 of Drawkland's losses that campaign came to the tune of conceding 5 goals). A penultimate matchday 2-2 draw left Drawkland a point behind Red Blackiland, the second place nation in the group. Once again needing miraculous circumstances, Drawkland managed a 4-1 win to stay alive and Red Blackiland miraculously drew against an unranked side, paving Drawkland's way to their second consecutive World Cup. Ignore the fact that they lost to Eura and Farfadillis 6-2 and 6-1 respectively, instead focus on how they got their first-ever World Cup victory by defeating Turori 1-0!
Wold Cup 79: Drawkland had a very easy path to qualification in World Cup 79 ... they hosted it! Well, co-hosted it, along with Ceni. Avoiding the grueling World Cup Qualifying process, they came in to the World Cup group stage fresh and ready to take advantage of their home fields. They started that off well with a 2-0 win over Cassadaigua, but momentum slowed after a 1-1 draw to Turori the next matchday. However, they still had the second-place position in their group, and all they had to do is not lose by 2 goals or more to Cosumar on the final matchday to make the knockout round for the first time in their history. Unfortunately, the choke gods descended upon the Kick Corps, and they lost 4-1 at a practical home field to the Dragons. Turori won their match and went on to the playoffs ahead of Drawkland. Despite the disappointing loss, they still got the most points they ever had in a World Cup, with 4.

This current managerial team are now going into the fourth cycle together, having utterly transformed Schottia's fortunes over the last six years. Quebecois boss, Lionel Mah, was totally untested at international level when he took over from Jane Gullie, and while his appointment might have been a little controversial, he has now well and truly won the nation over. Mah's ability to motivate, man-manage, and get the most out of a limited playing pool appears to be second to none, and the 56-year-old has got the entire team pulling in the same direction. Former team captain, Colin Donaldson, joined as Mah's assistant after he cut his managerial teeth as interim manager at Handon United. The 45-year-old knows the Schottic game, and has strengths in the areas Mah lacks, making him an influential voice on the training pitch. David Chettwell is part of the furniture now at Harbour Hill, having worked under three Schottia managers to date. He knows the players, knows the culture, and 'Davy' - as the players call him - is a good go-between for the management and playing staff. Judy Scott and Conner Watts were both brought in on Donaldson's recommendation, and the pair of them have lots of front-line coaching experience. Peter Acheson is a member of the side who survived the post- Jane Gullie era cull, and he has worked with the goalkeeping staff for a long time. Physio, Claire Hanson-Conavacio - yes, she is the wife of the Quebecois legend - is perhaps one of the more controversial members of the team, having been previously sacked for allegations of assaulting a player. The charges were later dropped, paving the way for this world-class sports scientist (now living in the Equestrian States) to re-enter the fold.

Team history
Barry Gorman era
Not so much a tale of ups and downs, Schottia's history in the World Cup competitions has been one of very slow progress. Since Barry Gorman took over a side ranked outside the world's top 300, which had just finished WC68 with a grand total of 0-points, the Auks have seen their fortunes steadily improve. The small nation of six-and-a-half-million gave a very good account of themselves under his stewardship and it was in this era that we saw them first adopt their now familiar 4-2-3-1 formation. Schottia finished sixth of eight in their group as they tried to reach the finals of WC69 in his first year in charge, qualifying for the Cup of Harmony, where they recorded a surprise win over Mizuyuki. The subsequent rise up the world rankings saw them finish third, fourth, third in WC70, 71, and 72 respectively, as they established themselves as one of the world's mid-ranked sides. Schottia put in some plucky performance over the years, and there was little doubt that it was Gorman who had made the difference, seemingly able to dig deep and get something extra out of the country's small pool of players. It was also during this period (immediately prior to WC70) that Schottia won the Di Bradini Cup, and that golden generation of youngsters has slowly began to make their mark on the senior squad.

Despite being the one to galvanise the team, Barry Gorman's position as manager became more and more difficult. After a series of wild promises and statements of overconfidence, he constantly succeeded in building up the fans' expectations, and creating a rod for his own back. In the end it was no doubt this bravado, coupled with a lacklustre qualification campaign in WC72, which saw the SFA decline to offer him a new contract. He did go on to lead the side to the knockout stages of the Cup of Harmony for the first time, however it wasn't enough, and as the side limped out after a heavy defeat to Nova Anglicana, it was to be the 47-year-old's last act in charge.

Jane Gullie era
After their Cup of Harmony exit, Schottia was standing at a bit of a crossroads. Managerless, and despite reaching the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time, it was abundantly clear that they were a million miles off the pace. From a shortlist of five candidates, Jane Gullie emerged as the most suitable option, and was handed the job over the likes of caretaker Grant Nean, and Schottic DBC hero Jock Sonny. Gullie had made a name for herself after lifting the SPL title with New Belfast Warriors, and was commended for her style of man-management and balanced tactics, which the board thought conducive to the Schottic style of play. It is easy to forget when looking back with rosé tinted glasses, but Gullie's reign was not an overnight success and indeed, she came very close to being sacked only five matches into the World Cup 73 Qualifiers. Results picked up however, the turning point being a win at home to Krytenia - a massive achievement for a nation who traditionally struggle against the top sides. The result seemed to give Schottia a new found confidence, and with the cracks glossed over with a little self belief, they eventually went on to top their group. Further wins over Mertagne, and the completion of the double over Krytenia in the final group game meant that Schottia were able to avoid the play-off lottery and move straight into the World Cup final draw.

In spite of all the excitement surrounding the nation's qualification, there was no hiding the enormity of the task they faced. Drawn in a difficult group consisting of San Jose San Jose Guayabal, Farfadillis, and the Polar Islandstates, Schottia finished in fourth place picking up a single point against Farfadillis.

Schottia then entered the World Cup 74 qualification as second seeds in their group, and while this made for a potentially easier draw - being placed alongside The Holy Empire, Bears Armed, and New Gelderland saw pay to that. After a huge struggle, Schottia eventually came out on top for a second cycle running. In reflection the home and away wins over New Gelderland, were probably pivotal in a group where all the sides dropped points. By this point Gullie was starting to get the players she wanted around her, and this was marked by the emergence of individuals such as Johannas Ünterhausen, Bella Thompson, and Herron Crew, who all made valuable contributions.

The finals themselves were once again a bridge too far for Schottia, and where they seem to have gotten qualification down to a T, the finals are another story all together. This time Schottia were draw alongside Nova Anglicana, Vilita, and the familiar faces of Farfadillis. It was to be the same story as last time however, and with zero wins, Schottia limped out once again at the group stage.

After topping their qualification group the two previous campaigns there was a lot of pressure on Jane Gullie to do the same going into WC75. However, despite a strong start, the Schottians fell by the wayside, with a seemingly inconceivable collapse at the halfway stage, finishing third behind Devonta and Eura.

Lionel Mah Era
Schottia's first World Cup qualifying campaign under the very highly rated Quebecois Lionel Mah can simply be summed up by the word - frustration. In many ways, they did so much right, but during the critical games against Eshan and Turori, they couldn't come up with the goods. The Schottic support seemed to be divided right down the middle, as to whether or not the manager should be given a second chance. However, and perhaps most crucially, the players had been generally in favour of the then 50-year-old. In the end, the Schottic FA decided not to make a final decision on Mah's fate until after the Cup of Harmony, which would prove to be astute move.

Optimism was desperately low as Schottia headed into their first ever Cup of Harmony on home soil, with overseas territory Port Christopher qualifying for the World Cup making it all the more painful. However, Schottia managed to dig deep, and pull out the results they needed, as they made their way to the final. They suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final, losing in the dying minutes to a very impressive Bonesea side. Despite the obvious disappointment, there were several positives to take away. The run to the final, which included a 4-0 win over the higher ranked Super-Llamaland, undoubtedly meant that Schottia went into the Independents Cup the following year full of confidence.

Schottia marched to a somewhat surprise victory at the inaugural tournament, which pitted associations playing out with the Mulitiverse's three main sporting regions against one another. Defeating Veldgouwen in the final, Lionel Mah's side were able to atone for letting the Cup of Harmony slip through their fingers on home solid, and add a first senior trophy to the Harbour Hill cabinet.

Going into the qualifiers for World Cup 77, national confidence was at an all time high. Despite what on paper looked like a difficult draw, there was a feeling that Mah and Donaldson were the management team who knew how to get results. Along with heavyweights, Starblaydia and the Sarian, Schottia were also pitted against emerging superpower, Ceni. While Arrowsword, Koromin, and Co proved to be a bridge too far for the Schottians, they swept all others aside with some gutsy performances, to finish second in the group.

After securing a return to the world stage, Schottia found themselves in nosebleed territory after topping their group with nine points. A 2-1 win over Nephara will no doubt be the highlight of what turned out to be their breakthrough cycle. An extra time victory over fellow rising stars, Anglatia, in the round of sixteen, meant that Schottia were in uncharted waters as they progressed to the quarterfinals. It wouldn't be a World Cup if it didn't involve facing Farfadillis, and it was at the hands of the AO side, that Schottia eventually made their exit.

Mah and his team went on to prove that their exploits in SJG were no fluke, as they marched to the finals of the second IAC hosted in Schottia. Despite some good performances along the way, there was a horrible feeling of deja vu, as the Auks lost out to a young Bonesea side in the final.

There can surely have been no Schottic manager ever, who was under the same weight of expectation as Lionel Mah, as he went into World Cup-78. The unprecedented success he had brought to the team over the last four years looked, on paper, to be an impossible act to follow. They were sorted into a qualifying group alongside familiar opponents in the form of Super-Llamaland and Kaboomlandia, with the Schottic fans expecting nothing other than qualification; especially with two sides going through automatically. Mah didn't only deliver qualification; he went through the entire campaign with a 100% record, moving Schottia up into the World's top-ten for the first time.

Despite huffing and puffing through the group stage, Schottia made it to the knockouts for the second year running at the World Cup finals. A bizarre 5-1 win over Pasarga, and a workman like 3-2 victory over hosts Cosumar, saw them though to the semi-final and within ninety minutes of the World Cup final. They face off against two times former champions, Eura, in what was an epic contest. However there was to be heartbreak at the end, as Schottia went out 4-3 on penalty kicks. The side did bounce back however, defeating the Holy Empire in the third place play off, to somehow top the world rankings.

Heading into their third Independents Cup, Mah selected a youthful squad, hell-bent on winning their title back from those pesky sailors! Despite leaving out several top players, Schottia's future squad put in a series of very gutsy performances, as they made their way to the final for the third year running. After a very close fought battle with our former co-hosts, Mercedini, Schottia ran out 2-1 winners, giving the next generation a first taste of silverware. A few months later the team were back in action, entering the Eagle's Cup with a more established squad of players. After some mixed results in the group stage, Schottia's results improved with impressive victories over Nephara and Valanora. However, defeat to Cosumar for the second time in the tournament, saw them beaten in the final.

Schottia capped off what will go down as the nation's golden ear in world football, lifting the World Cup in Drawkland. There was a fair bit of pressure on the Auks going into the 79th WC, but after a shaky start to qualifying, they progressed undefeated to the finals. There were some heart in mouth moments, but Lionel Mah's boys and girls made their way through to the final with six wins from six, to take on old enemies, Bonesea at Drawkland's Seven Stars Stadium. After a nail-biting encounter, Corinne Martel-Burns scored the winning goal in stoppage time to win the match 3-2.

Squad information
Lionel Mah has always used the Independents Cup as a crucial chance to take a look at some fresh talent, and give some of the players on the fringes of the first team an opportunity to impress. While the Quebecois has resisted the temptation to put out a U23 or B-Team per se, there are most certainly a few younger players and emerging talents dotted amongst the final squad list. The selection process has been made all the more difficult given the SFA's eleventh hour decision to grant an amnesty to all former Christopheran internationals, stating that if they made their intentions known by the end of the summer, they could be considered for future call-ups, given they were Schottic citizens. As a result, Nepharim Premiership stars, Maeve Bronte and Mike Campbell, will be the first players ever, who have been formerly capped by another nation, to don the white and green. Other first time recruits include: Cazadores Cathair's Matt Inglod, Warriors' Simon Johnson, Dawn Morham of Marionville, Dundee winger Mark Keane, and Jessie Lennox - fresh off the back of picking up the Golden Boot in Chromatika. Along with all these new faces, there is also a very old one, and what is a bit of a blast from the past in the form of Till Ümann.

With Ed Lorrey still the wrong side of 21, Lionel Mah isn't going to play about with the number-one jersey, so expect to see Harry Gould in goals unless that situation is affected by injury. In a flat back four, Mark Ünterhausen will provide the experience, with rising stars Grant Carlin and Louis Horden providing the youthful vigour. Matt Ingold will get a chance to show what he can do at left back, and will almost certainly earn his first cap at these championships.

Lionel Mah could be tempted to throw Bronte in at some point alongside Evelyn Conjure, but Dilon Bánach will expect to start there for the time being, following her good form for Handon United. Kim Coultan seems to be back on the right-side for the time being, but there is every chance that could switch, with Alexander Alan providing a more conventional winger option, and Coultan being pushed further up the park. Line Stenberg will likely get the nod on the left, but again, she could switch more centrally should Isaiah Vaught or Mark Keane be called upon. Camila Soria Luna has been on phenomenal form over the past twelve months, and she will operate in the traditional number ten role, but while she might be a playmaker, she has a tendency fall a little deeper back.

Up front it's hard to see past the icon figure of Corinne Martel-Burns, whose two goals against Bonesea delivered the World Cup to Schottia. Ross Renshaw represents a more conventional option on the bench, and finally, it will also be exciting to see what Lennox has to offer, should she get the chance.

Finally established as Schottia's number one, Gould recently joined Cornellians in an eight million move, making him the nation's most expensive goal keeper. After a long period spent as reserve behind Jeremy McNott, Gould is making up for it now, passing the fifty cap mark en route to the World Cup final. The Goalkeeper position is one that Schottia have never had absolutely sewn up tight, but what Gould offers over his predecessors, is a predictable all-rounder. He's not one to come bolting off his line, or pull off some wonder save; but he has a good command of his area, and isn't one to commit major errors.

2. RB. Louis Hordern,

Handon United, 22. Height: 181cm. Weight: 72kg | Caps: 25 Goals: 0
Hordern has made a massive impact at Handon United since being handed his chance by manager Jane Gullie. Over the last four years the youngster has gone on to cement is place in the starting line up, and was a key player for United during their back-to-back title wins. Hordern is a powerful and commanding figure. This burly side-back takes a lot of stopping when he gets going, and has raw pace on his side too. Hordern captained Schottia at the most recent DBC, and seems to have now replaced 35-year-old Larry Watt as Schottia's first choice right-back.

3. LB. Matthew Ingold, 29 |

Cazadores Cathair | Height:188cm Weight:75kg | Caps: 0 Goals: 0
A first call up for Inglod, in what may be a baptism of fire, as he looks set to be thrown into the starting line-up. Anyone remember this guy playing for Stalker Bay? No..? Well he did - as an ill disciplined youngster - and it's fair to say he's come a long way since then. Now in the starting line up for Cazadores Cathair, the 29-year-old is looking much more composed and keen to make up for lost time in the Schottia set up. There is already a lot of stiff competition at left-back, and should Ingold perform well, it's likely going to give Lionel Mah a bit of a headache ahead of the WCQs next year.

4. CB. Mark Ünterhausen, 27 |

It's been a big year for the for the former FC Döllar defender, joining the biggest league in world, while stepping up to the starting line up for Schottia. There will have been question marks hanging over him, but a World Cup winners medal will attest to the fact that he was up to the challenge. The younger brother of Johannas, Mark has been a big player for the Semarlandic giants Jansberg, during their waning years, and is now clearly enjoying a new challenge. Ünterhausen is strong and quick, a real reader of the game, who covers a lot of ground at the back. He is also an influential presence, and a calm head in the dressing room.

5. CB Grant Carlin, 24 |

1860 Azoth | Height:188cm Weight:77kg | Caps: 10 Goals: 0
Carlin has long been one of Schottia's hottest defensive prospects, and the IAC-4 will be a big chance for him to prove he's ready for the next step. This hugely influential figure captained his hometown club New Island at the age of 20, along with the Schottic BDC team. Carlin is strong in the air, and a real leader on and off the pitch. He is down to earth, no nonsense, and gets the job done. The fantastic success of 1860 Azoth three years ago rocketed him up the pecking order within the Schottic NT set-up, and he was able to gain some important experience during the WCQs. With Gareth Souter and Stephen Paul both rested for this tournament, Carlin will be handed the huge responsibility that comes with a regular starting place.

6. CM/CF. Dilon Bánach, 23 |

Handon United | Height: 171cm. Weight: 63kg | Caps: 34 Goals: 3
Dilon Bánach is one of a number of players really making a name for themselves in Jane Gullie's new-look Handon United side. This fast and dynamic young midfielder is one of the best players in the SPL right now, and has proven that she can cut the mustard at international level too, playing a big part in Schottia World Cup triumph. There is a constant hum of transfer speculation surrounding the 23-year-old, and United are desperate to hold on to the finest talent they have produced in the last ten years. Bánach can also play upfront, however it is in the centre of the park where she is most effective, harrying the opposition and opening up chances for her teammates.

8. CM Evelyn Conjure, 26 |

What a difference a few years can make. It wasn't that long ago that we were all questioning the logic of Lionel Mah, calling up a 21-year-old Blue Cost midfielder, who had only been capped a couple of times on the wing at the DBC. The versatile Conjure has since settled into a more defence role, where she performs an essential task for Schottia, doing a lot of the running and clearing up the loose ends. Her form over the last three years won her a $20,000,000 move to Premiership side, Brinemouth, as well as a Galactico Runner-Up award. Conjure is very much the Golden-Girl of Schottic football right now, and puts in commanding and consistent performances in the engine-room of midfield.

Coultan seems to be finding form once again, as she reaches the autumn years of her career. The former Dundee youth spent her formative years at Jottnar Kallsmudden, where the Buyanese club helped transform her form plucky teenager into a player who could command a $14,000,000 transfer. Coultan is a legend of Schottic football, through and through, and as the first female to be capped for the national team, she helped inspire many of the players who have followed. She has spend the last decade at Cosumarite side, Crawford City, and while the club have had their ups and downs, Coultan has remained a consistent competitor. The arrival of Amethyst Fegelein as manager seems to have brought about an upturn in the Elephants' fortunes however, and Coultan's form has benifited accordingly. The 31-year-old is the current team captain.

7. CM/AMC/WL. Line Stenberg, 23 |

Kingsgrove | Height:168cm Weight:63kg | Caps: 21 Goals: 8
Stenberg was jewel in the crown of Schottia's academy set-up... until she told them to stuff-it half way through her degree. The Norkrussen born midfielder felt she had learned enough, and ditching her BA in maths and physics, decided upon a more hands on method of education. In her three seasons with Brenecian side Kingsgrove, Stenberg has established herself in the first team, putting in the kind of performances that have made it impossible for Lionel Mah to ignore her any longer. While the 23-year-old has predominantly played a more central role for Kingsgrove, her versatility means she can also play wide left or in attack. This iron-willed young woman is the first Kingsgrove player to be capped for Schottia since Eoin Killanen, and we have to ask ourselves if there is a chance we could be about to witness another very special player.

10. AMC. Camila Soria Luna, 23 |

Marine Coast United | Height:176cm Weight:65kg | Caps: 61 Goals: 22
Camila Luna's career has been nothing if not eventful. She first made the headlines aged thirteen, after pledging her allegiance to Schottia as opposed to her island of birth, Port Christopher. On the park she has turned heads for all the right reasons, however, picking up a U15WC winners medal before going on to win her first cap aged only eighteen. The playmaker left the Schottic youth academy aged fifteen to join up with the Daineri branch of Project +90, where she spent three productive years, before joining Vilitan side, Marine Coast United. Luna is widely regarded as the long-term replacement to Kim Coultan, as a creative attacking player, with a knack for setting up goals. In truth they are very different players though, with Luna representing more of a heavyweight option, better able to handle the rough and tumble.

13. FC Corinne Martel-Burns 25 |

Crazily good, or just crazy? Probably not until we are able to look back on her career in ten years time will we be able to really answer that question. Never has there been a Schottic player who has courted more controversy or commanded more column inches than Connie "CMB" Martel-Burns. The term 'loose cannon' really doesn't do the player justice, who first hit the headlines aged fourteen, after being kicked out of the Handon United academy. Her senior career has been every bit as turbulent, spending a season with Kirk Preston in the first division before a move to St Johns Arsenal, which did nothing for her mental state. Despite scoring a shit-ton of goals in Quebec, the atmosphere seemed only to play-up her idiosyncrasies, ending with her missing the IAC-II while facing charges for assaulting a fan. A move to Ceni seemed to be a sensible one, and while the TLE offered a reprieve, it turned out to be only temporary, as the dark clouds closed in once again.

Wonderkid is a tag you don't often here attached to goalkeepers very often, but Lorrey certainly fits that mould. He started for Schottia en route to the semi-final of the DBC three years ago, having made his first league appearance for Dundee aged sixteen. Lorrey was manager Johnny Smith's first summer signing following his move to Lammerton, as he clearly saw enough in the player to bring him with him. While he might lack the experience to be thrown in at the deep end, the teenager has all the attributes needed to succeed, should he be called upon. He recently completed a move to Turorian heavyweights, Mliona-Lpaka AFC , in a move rumoured to be in the region of $7 million.

22. RB. Simon Johnson, 27

New Belfast Warriors Height: 179cm. Weight: 70kg | Caps: 0 Goals: 0
A first call up for Simon Johnson, one many would say is long overdue. After failing to break into the first team at Handon United, he went away and built himself up at Hillstreet, helping them win promotion to the SPL, before securing a move to New Belfast Warriors just before the start of last season. Johnson is quick, strong, and really everything you would need in a right-back. With Larry Watt's international retirement Lionel Mah will be looking for another right-back to deputise for Hordern, and Johnson could be just that man.

15. LB. Dawn Morham, 20

Marionville | Height: 182cm. Weight: 68kg | Caps: 0 Goals: 0
The younger sister of Corvistone's Krista, Dawn Morham was one of the SPL's stand out players last season. After taking the step up from West Coast Warriors to Marionville in her stride, the 20-year-old put in a string of great performances in helping her side to fourth in the league. Schottia have a glut of left-backs at the moments, but there is every chance Morham could rise to the top. Blistering pace, and crossing ability that could put a winger to shame, this beanpole wing-back is probably destined for the top.

14. CB Michael Campbell, 28 |

Sabrefell Athletic | Height:186cm Weight:79kg | Caps: 0 Goals: 0 (Caps: 69 Goals: 3 for Port Christopher)
Campbell is one of the first Christopheran players to make the switch to pulling on a Schottia strip during the grace period agreed by the SFA chiefs. Having lived in Schottia for the first twenty years of his life it was probably an easy decision for the Athletic star, who went from reject to top-class defender in his time with the Sea-Lions. Campbell has been a pillar like presence at the back for Port Christopher, and Lionel Mah will hope he can slot in seamlessly, and do the same for Schottia.

16. AMR. Alexander Alan, 27 |

Port Sebastian | Height:181cm Weight: 69kg | Caps: 12 Goals: 4
What a return to Schottic football Alexander Alan has had. This mild-mannered, gentleman of the game has been around a bit, starting his career in Semarland with the Copenbrok Klub youth team, before spending a season in The Red Vale. On his return to Schottia with Kirk Preston, he had left-backs running scared the length and breadth of the country, with his old-fashioned flying winger routine. What Alan does is straightforward: run like fuck, and deliver a good cross for the end product - it's not flashy but it seems to work. The 27-year-old did enough to catch the eye of Porty boss Nicolas Lars who forked out $4 million on him, giving him a taste of Champions' Cup football. He perhaps surprised a few people by featuring quite a bit for Schottia at the World Cup, where he ended up deputising for Coutlan.

21. AML. Mark Keane, 25 |

One of a few first time call-ups, Mark Keane was impressive with Dundee, especially in the first part of the season. He is exactly what you would expect from a powerful winger, and very much in the mould of former Panner, Steven Rexmont. He might not get too much game time, but it will be very interesting to see how he is able to rise to the occasion, should Mah decide to throw him it.

12. DM. Maeve Bronte, 26 |

Crisisbless | Height:175cm Weight:65kg | Caps: 0 Goals: 0 (Caps: 91 Goals: 2 for Port Christopher)
Possibly Schottia's most experienced first call up ever, Maeve Bronte already has nearly 100 caps for Port Christopher. The former Pirates captain proved all her doubters wrong, after making the switch to the Premiership. A strong debut season with Crisisbless showed she could do more than just break up play, as she seemed to rise to challenge. Bronte is a defensive midfielder first and foremost; don't expect any great playmaking ability from her, because it won't happen. However, when it comes to doing the simply stuff, she does it perfectly, and puts in 100% for the full 90 minutes. Of all the players contemplating a switch, Bronte is the one who offers something Schottia don't already have.

17. CM Krista Morham, 25 |

AFC Corvistone | Height: 176cm. Weight: 66kg | Caps: 6 Goals: 1
There have always been a huge talking point centred around Krista Morham at international level, and that is probably down to do with the fact she is at Corvistone. The 25-year-old has been at the heart of the club's cash fuelled surge up the Nepharim league system, and finally looks as if she's going to get a taste of Premiership football. There is no doubt that Morham is a great player, and had she not been turning out for Nephara's most hated plastic football club for the last five years, then there is every chance she would have won more than her six senior caps. Strong performances at U21 level, and at the last Independents Cup, mean she has to be included on merit - however, the midfield-technician is probably going to have to work that little bit harder to truly win the fans over.

19. DM/ACM. Till Ümann, 31 |

Mallox | Height: 185cm. Weight: 76kg | Caps: 18 Goals: 5
Till Ümann, that'll be a blast from the past for some of you, and a new name for anyone younger than about 15 years of age. Remember that Soessch wonderkid who used to make all the headlines, as a fresh-faced 18-year-old with swept back blonde hair? Well he's back, complete with crows' feet and buzz-cut receding hairline. Ümann's career was destroyed by injury, meaning that the midfielder was only able to make eight appearances for Soessch in 24-months. He has since resurrected his career in Cosumar, however, where he was part of Mallox's surprise title winning side. Football has not been overly kind to him, and it has toughened him up as a result, turning him into an uncompromising competitor. Thirteen years after he picked up the last of his eighteen caps, this is his last chance.

18. CF/LW. Isaiah Vaught, 20 |

Whitehaven Triumph | Height:188cm Weight:82kg | Caps: 4 Goals: 1
Isaiah Vaught is hot property right now, probably to the extent that even he was surprised. After helping The Blues to promotion aged seventeen, he was subject to a mad scramble as clubs vied to secure his services. Turning down bids from some of the top clubs in the Multiverse, Vaught opted instead for Cenian side Whitehaven Triumph and a guaranteed chance of first team football. Vaught helped Whitehaven to ninth in his first season, then excelled the following year, netting with a near 1-to-1 ratio. It's hard to say whether the 20-year-old is more of a forward or a winger, and he kind of falls in to a bit of a grey area, which can lead to him playing either from time to time. Wherever he plays, Vaught is best utilised in running at defenders.

20. FC. Jessica Lennox, 24 |

Morningstar | Height:178cm Weight: 69kg | Caps: 0 Goals: 0
Jessie Lennox already had her application in with the University of Handon, about to start a Masters in Molecular Biology, when the contract offer from Z'ai'ai Mountaineers landed on her table. Having turned down a couple of offers from second tier clubs in Schottia, Lennox thought the footballing dream was over, before the Chromatik club took a chance on her. Her impeccable work ethic - which she applies to everything she does - seems to stood her in good stead, and she went on to score a barrel load for Z'ai'ai, catching the eye of both Lionel Mah, and Morningstar in the process.

9. FC. Ross Renshaw, 22 |

Cednia Beach AFC | Height:181cm Weight: 71kg | Caps: 23 Goals: 11
Ross Renshaw was thrust into the lime light a couple of years back, while part of the very successful Schottia DBC team that reached the semi-finals. He then followed it up with league, UICA and CEdC success with his club Blue Coast 1981. Renshaw is a quiet, and reasonably humble character, which can be both his strength and his weakness. He is a very good team player, but for natural goal scorer, one might prefer him to be a little more selfish. He was a bit part player for the first twelve months in the senior Schottia team, but made it on the plane to the World Cup, and seems to be now establishing himself.

The Cup of Harmony campaign was nothing sort of incredible for the gli attaccanti, the squad proved its worth by taking several giants out of the way to reach the final and get the country's first international trophy back home. The secret behind all this success is the squad's offensive-minded tactics as well as the tenacity they show while they're on the pitch. It's very well-know by now that the squad consists of some really fast players, which favors counter-offensive play a lot, so they'll pretty much stick to that and hope to bring even more gold home after this Independents Cup campaign.

National Information

East Vomsi is a small, subarctic nation, situated in the region on Tyran. It currently enjoyed a large amount of autonomy, but is still heavily subsidised by Schottia, whom they also rely upon for defence. This cold, flat, and windswept nation has a population on around 30,000, the majority of which live in the island's only substantial settlement, Sviby.

The Island of Vormsi is considered the dividing point of the old Eastern and Western Ossorian Empires, and a frontier line still runs right down the middle of the island, with West Vormsi still part of the modern day High Kingdom of Ossoria. Relations between Schottia and Ossoria have always remained cordial, however, and there is little to no segregation between the two halves.

East Vormsi has a semi-professional football league consisting of ten teams, Sviby Vikings are the island's most successful side, with eighteen league titles. While a few Vormsian players have reached professional levels playing in Schottia and abroad, the majority of the side are armatures.

Vormsian players are normally eligible to play for Schottia in WCC completions, however their FA were invited to submit an application to take part in the Independents Cup 4, to help out with tournament numbers.

In defence, the Puffins actually have two individuals who have played football professionally. Artjom Järvinen, while now semi retired, played at centre-back with Marionville for a number of years, and Marko Hillar helped San Marco Storm to third in the Christopheran Super-League before hanging up his boots at the end of the season. Järvinen and Hillar to one side, East Vormsi are down to the bones, with 32-year-old Vikings star, Juris Balodis, the best of the rest at centre-back.

Rino Hemnes is a real contender for the Puffins best player ever, and the midfielder will be called upon to do a lot of the legwork in this side. The 27-year-old currently turns out for A-League side Southern Star, having previously played for Handon United and FC Jansberg as a teenager. Right-winger, Inga Oòlansa, scored a fair few goals for Lääne in the Vormsi League last season, but playing against non-part-timer will be a whole different ball game. In reserve they have a couple of future talents, but at 15 and 13 respectively, Roberts Kalniņš and Dacè Johannassen are too young to be thrown in at the deep end. Kalniņš has by all accounts been performing very well for Cornellians U15s team, but this tournament might have come a couple of seasons too soon.

Benkè Oulonagawi on the other hand is a player we will get to see a lot more of very soon, as the 27-year-old recently gained promotion with West Holbrookdale.

Independents Cup draw made!

How will Juvencus and its group members do in the Independents Cup?

The Independents Cup 4 group draw took place yesterday which sees Juvencus in a very good spot, with a very high chance of qualifying to the next round. The gli attaccanti was put with the countries of Alpine Union, Amazonesta as well as Space. Below, we'll give you a brief review on how we think each nation should do in this tournament.

And we shall start with our own country, Juvencus, the gli attaccanti's got morale and its newly found prestige(Being the Cup of Harmony champions) by its side. We believe that the offensive-minded play of Juvencus will be too much for most teams to compete with, let alone this group's teams. We don't predict a steamroll, however a first-placed finish is expected and required by the players, a second place finish or below would be considered a flop. The team will certainly reach the round of 16 or quarter-finals of the competition, but should it reach the semi-finals, we predict a 3rd place finish in the tournament overall.

Up next is Amazonesta, which had a very disappointing Cup of Harmony performance, however we predict a great overall performance of this squad in the Independents Cup. They consist of a squad that could cause upsets in the group and are more likely the squad that the gli attaccanti should pay the most attention on. We predict a second-placed finish for them, as well as a run to the round of 16 which could extent to the quarter-final should they watch their footing.

Then we have the Alpine Union, a squad that's alright, they could snatch a second-placed finish in another group, but not this one. However the most likely exciting performances they will pull through will most likely be enough for that squad. We predict either a third or a fourth place finish for them.

Lastly, we have Space, sounds scary, that's because they're a nation more related to our descedants than ourselves. A futuristic hyper-nation that we should be on the lookout for, however we don't really think they will do much and as such we predict either a third or a fourth place finish.

It's been a short while since Mercedini's rather mixed campaign for the 79th World Cup. Being one goal away from qualification and ultimately finishing third in their group after a final day duel against Abanhfleft, that disappointing performance, coupled with a rather embarrassing show in the subsequent Cup of Harmony, means Mercedini sit 39th in the world, meaning they have work to do if they want to make a second appearance at the World Cup in the future. Cenian Elidyr Lyndainium remains at the helm of the national team for this tournament, hoping to go one better than the historic second place they recorded last time round, when they fell 2-1 to this edition's hosts, Schottia. Lyndainium has elected to play what some would consider a b-team, with many Mercedinian hot shots not being chosen to make the trip to their Schottic training camp, either through UICA duties or the managerial option to rest them for club or later international duties. It gives many of the names in the roster a chance to shine and impress managers and directors from near and far.

Three goalkeepers have been included in the Mercedinian roster for the trip to Schottia, with Lyndainium opting to go for a combination of youth and experience with two players still eligible for their respective U21 youth sides. Sporting Cenial keeper Callum Polasic will wear the number one jersey for the national side in this tournament after guiding the team to the final last time round. Playing his football in Ceni for a number of seasons, Polasic has solidified himself as the second choice between the sticks, and with Hosset called for UICA duty with Zoloroni City, it could be Polasic's chance to shine after a decent showing in World Cup Qualification. He will be accompanied by two youth prospects who will likely make appearances in the group stages in order to get them international experience at the top level. Poyek, who was included in the qualification roster, will be the second choice goalie going into the tournament, and will more than likely add onto his single cap that he has achieved. Rounding out the goalkeeping roster is Edgar Farsal-Smith who is yet to record a national team cap despite being included in the team which won the silver medal in the third edition. He goes in as the third choice once again but could still make an appearance in the group stages against lesser opposition. Plenty of different styles and perspective to deal with the different syles and perspectives of their opposition.

Defensive frailties aside, Mercedini have always managed to perform well at these types of events, rarely letting in more that two goals a game against most teams, meaning they have had a decent pedigree in this tournament, even if other tournaments have been more patchy at times. Lyndainium has gone with what he knows in regard to the defensive roster with only one spot out of ten featuring a player not involved in the World Cup Qualification roster, Zholvi Athletic's Alexander Ytandev the only player to be included from outside of that tournament. A huge mixture of experience and youthful enthusiasm in the team which will give some players a standing to boost their careers, while other will get to experience competitive tournament football for the first time. The experience of Aznelik, Ossun, Patenkov and Catessic will lead the team forward while the youth prospects will likely get a look in as the squad rotates and if the team work hard enough to earn a dead rubber in their final group game.

More of the same in the midfield as Lyndainium opts for a combination of youth and experience in all three position in the Mercedinian midfield. The big surprise in the team will be 18-year old Johan Karlovic who will be given a starring role in central midfield as the Sporting World Cup winner moves into his transition period for the senior national team, where he has already picked up six caps and one goal in World Cup Qualification. Familiar names will accompany the central midfielders, with Presic and Vaselko the two first-choice wingers listed in the roster, with Elspachia and Somer City both likely to recall their players should they go deep in their respective UICA competitions. Plenty to think about for the team going forward, with the national team and UICA clubs competing for their respective players' time, especially during these regional tournaments where schedules clash during the season.

Attacking prowess is what Mercedini has always been known for, with Mercedinian strikers more than holding their own against the world's biggest teams in the past, meaning plenty of foreign teams have been knocking at the door in previous transfer windows to land our strikers onto the doorsteps of some of the best teams around the multiverse. even creating some Mercedinian UICA finalists and winners in the process. Alas, there would be some serious burnout if Lyndainium played the same players over and over again, which means some changes are afoot in the Mercedinian striking roster. Dostalok and Billic are the main two names which fans will be aware of as they have been cleared to play, with Dostalok likely to play for Handon United while also being on international duty for his nation. Youth prospect Spartoni and two-time domestic champion Mossec round out the roster who will likely add that little extra dynamic that the manager craves.

History

Football is played in Prusy Krolewskie since the beginning of the 20th century. Prusy Krolewskie's first international games were in the baptism of fire 59, the Reprezentacja Pruski finished 2nd in group F and lost to Santaclausisgodistan in round of 16. In the World Cup 72 qualifications, Prusy Krolewskie finished fifth in group 5 with a 5-3-6 record. Prusy Krolewskie was then missing in action until we come back for the XI olympiads and the World Cup 76 where we finished 6th in group 6 with a 2-2-8 record. Prusy Krolewskie was invited at the Cup of Harmony and did very poorly. Then, the Reprezentacja Pruski participated in the 1st Independents Cup, for nations outside of the big three regions, but had a bad tournamant either. Prusy Krolewskie tried to qualify for the World Cup 77 and failed, but still had a pretty good run, enough to crack the top 100 in the KPB rankings and recieve an invitation to the Cup of Harmony 69. Prusy Krolewskie finished 3rd in its group with a 0-2-1 record.

In 2018, every nations in North Eurasia formed a superstate called Union of Soclialist Alpine Republics. The Alpine Union inherited Prusy Krolewskie's rank and participated in the Independents Cup II but lost all three games. The USAR tried to qualify for the World Cup 78 but finished 4th in group 8 with a 8-3-5 record, this is the best result so far for Prusy Krolewskie/USAR. At the Cup of Harmony 70, the Alpine Union had one win and two losses in 3 games. Then in the Independents cup III, the Alpine Union finished first in group C with 3 wins an no loss and beat Devonta in the round of 16 but lost against Bojikstan in the quarter finals. The Alpine Union tried to qualify for the World Cup 79, but the team failed miserably.

Notes

After two years away from international soccer, Republican National Soccer Team, LLC reformed two years ago just as its owner and sole proprietor was awarded the title of Soccer General by Consul Kyle Bolton. Soccer General Rule Theriault held open tryouts throughout the FFR to find the best young soccer players and the hottest high school cheerleaders in the Federation and get them under contract to Republican National Soccer Team, LLC. After travelling across the Federation and holding 60 open tryouts, a total of 27 soccer players and 68 cheerleaders were selected for the team based on their performance, (in the case of the soccer players) game tape and discussions with their coaches. At this time, Theriault is unsure whether any of the players stand out above the rest but he is hopeful that they will be responsible to coaching from the first Soccer General in the history of the Free Republics and his legendary assistant manager Sir Koby Theodore, who shined so memorably in World Cups 68 and 71. While rumor has it that looks were a factor in selecting both the soccer team and the cheerleading squad, Soccer General Rule Theriault denies rumors that Nova Hellstrom-Hancock and Lucia Bolton had a role in selecting players for the soccer team, though he does admit that Sir Koby Theodore and Consul Kyle Bolton hand-picked the cheerleaders.

In the year since World Cup 78, the Free Republics fell into a civil war. Political tensions that had been brewing for a long time between the political mainstream and the progressive left finally boiled over at the Unite the Left rally in Goldberg, Nejax. The small college town, home to the University of Nejax, was the site of disturbing political violence as an extreme progressive ran over 5 people, including University of Nejax pitcher Jurgen Eberhardt, the ace of the school's baseball team. A wave of left-wing domestic terror followed, leading to the passage of the Stop Aggressive Violent Extremism (SAVE) Act which granted extraordinary powers to the Federation Investigation Bureau (FIB) to protect public safety. 32 Republics responded to this by seceding from the FFR to form the Confederacy of Leftist Republics, which quickly became a state sponsor of terror. In the months since, the Republican armed forces have lost battle after battle to the Confederates and the FFR has suffered from many acts of terror, some of which, such as the destruction of the entries into international tournaments of the National Baseball Team and the National Hockey Team have had serious repercussions for Republican international sports. Eventually, the Leftist Republics were defeated and their territory turned into extremist containment zones known as "Charter Societies" as part of an effort to end political extremism in the Free Republics.

As the civil war was going on within the Free Republics, the National Soccer Team somehow managed to qualify for the World Cup, shocking almost everybody throughout the multiverse. However, they did not lost all 3 of their group stage matches and very much looked like a fluke qualifier. Now that some of their players are no longer teenagers, the Republican National Team heads into the Independents Cup in Schottia and has been placed into a Group of Death with the hosts (and reigning World Cup champions). This young team will be out to prove to the soccer world that they belong among international soccer's elite.

East Saintland: King Andreas Dead, Prince Paulus to be Crowned King Paulus XVI

Yesterday, News Magazine broke the news that the island of Saintland had fallen into yet another mysterious time warp. Today, King Andreas of East Saintland passed away in his sleep. He was 66 years old. The eastern branch of the Church of Saintland has since declared his son, the former Prince Paulus, to be King Paulus XVI of Saintland. Both East Saintland and West Saintland claim to be the only legitimate government of all of Saintland.

Patriarch Nicolaus VI released a statement this morning on behalf of the eastern Church: "King Andreas began his journey to Caelum as we slept last night. Today, we mourn his loss and we pray for our new King, Paulus XVI, who is named for his grandfather St. Paulus XV. We pray that our new King may be a Godly King who will walk in the path of righteousness, reunite our divided Kingdom and save our lost cousins in the west from eternal damnation. In this time of transition from one king to the next, let us take the opportunity to repent of our sins and to embrace more fervently than ever the Eternal Truth that our God revealed to us through his son Iesus Christus."

King Andreas, in his youth, was a legendary soccer player who captained Saintland's National Soccer Team in 7 World Cups (64-66, 68-70 & 72) and scored dozens of goals over his legendary career. He was widely regarded at one time as one of the greatest players and managers in the history of the World Cup but he is more well known today for his decades-long rivalry with his brother King Petrus XX of West Saintland.

The two brothers were said to be fairly close as children but once their father died, political differences tore the two of them apart. When King Petrus was crowned the King of Saintland, he initiated a reform effort that eventually led to West Saintland becoming the feminist democracy that it is today. This did not sit well with the traditionally-minded King Andreas, who regarded his brother as a heretic who had abdicated the throne by virtue of his failure to follow the teachings of the Sanctii Church. The tensions worsened after their brother Prince Josephus was murdered by Gregoryisgodistani "enemy crushers" at World Cup of Hockey XXV. The loss of his twin brother seemingly drove King Andreas into a rage that ultimately led to a successful coup against his brother. However, King Andreas's reign as King of a unified Saintland was short-lived as he aligned himself with the Kulseth regime and was removed from power by the Euran military. However, he would return to power with the assistance of the O'Reilly regime, securing possession of the eastern half of Saintland.

King Andreas's major accomplishments as King were his successful St. Paulus Wall, which secured the borders of East Saintland and his effort to promote childbirth in the eastern half of Saintland. Originally the less populated half of Saintland, the East now outnumbers the West by a 10 to 1 margin in terms of total population and the average age of their population is roughly half that of the Western population.

King Petrus XX of West Saintland, which does not officially recognize East Saintland released a statement regarding the death of his brother: "Today, all of Saintland mourns the passing of my brother Andreas. While we did not see eye-to-eye on many matters, he was still my flesh and blood and I still mourn his passing. I want to extend my condolences to my subjects in the eastern half of my Kingdom who erroneously regarded Andreas as their King and I urge my nephew Paulus to acknowledge me as the legitimate and lawful King of Saintland, as ordained by the Goddess. Failing that, I pray that Paulus will see Goddess's Truth so that he may be saved and, along with him, the souls of my subjects living in the eastern half of my Kingdom."

It felt like only yesterday that the Republican Assistant Manager was training under Prince Andreas in Saintland. At the time, he hated the Sanctii captain's methods but in retrospect Koby realized that his subsequent success was due to his experience under that brutal training regime in Saintland. As he read the story, Koby could not help but cry.

Soccer General Rule Theriault - I understand fully. I remember clashing with him during my tenure managing the Sanctii National Team and even kicking him off the team as punishment at one point but I'm also bothered by his death. We really need to figure out why Saintland seems to keep going through these time warps and do something about it!

Sir Koby Theodore - He was the reason why I became an elite player. Working with him for a short time did more to develop my skills than anything else I ever did. What do you think's going to happen in Saintland now?

Soccer General Rule Theriault - Well, the East has a massive military advantage over the West. If he truly believes the Eastern Church's crap, maybe King Paulus will actually invade his uncle's Kingdom. If that happens, he's probably going to reunify Saintland unless some outside power stops him.

Sir Koby Theodore - So there's going to be a war over Saintland then?

Soccer General Rule Theriault - Probably. That entire island is a giant powder keg just waiting to blow up. If there's another time warp tomorrow, I'm sure we'll wake up and find out that Paulus XVI has reunified Saintland.

Sir Koby Theodore - Just when I thought the multiverse was finally moving away from war, it looks like we're going to have another not too far from home.

Soccer General Rule Theriault - Indeed and the worst part is that we have a soccer match against Schottia coming up in 72 hours and we aren't prepared for it.

Sir Koby Theodore - I'll watch some of their tapes immediately, Coach but first I need to let you need about a little issue we've been having.

Soccer General Rule Theriault - What might that be?

Sir Koby Theodore - It seems that Kalervo Peltola and Summer Bradford have been having a secret romance of late.

Soccer General Rule Theriault - That's a bit concerning but honestly I knew the players weren't going to follow the no fraternizing with the cheerleaders rule. The players from your era wouldn't follow it either.

Sir Koby Theodore - True but Coach, I don't want this generation of players to act like we did. It really seemed like the entire multiverse was out to get us back in the day and that was all because we did whatever we wanted whenever we wanted and our military backed us up every step of the way!

Soccer General Rule Theriault - I understand where you're coming from. It felt like I lost control of my team around the time of the incident with that girl from Felix and from then on, you guys were really calling the shots.

Sir Koby Theodore - Absolutely. And that was just the way we wanted it at the time. And its also the reason why we didn't achieve our goals in the long run. We should have been great. About Les Incorrigibles
Just like the history of the nation, the history of Omerican football has been rocky. The nation was one of fifty-six to début in Baptism of Fire 56, where the team made the knockout stage with an undefeated record before bowing out to Lons after extra time in the last 32. Les Oiseaux subsequently floundered for several cycles, finishing below expectations in tournament after tournament and struggling to find their footing. But fortunes turned around during the Campionato Esportiva in the Sarian, where Omerica unexpectedly won their group and made the quarterfinals after defeating Yttribia. Despite falling to runners-up Nephara in a close match, the tournament marked a significant turn in fortunes: a bitter (and, to Osarians, infamous) third-place finish in the World Cup 73 qualifiers, two consecutive knockout stage qualifications and Round of 16 exits and—the nation’s crowning moment of glory—an upset qualification for World Cup 74, where the team scalped Flardania and nearly advanced to the knockout phase.

However, success proved short-lived. After boycotting CE XVI in Falatulu, the Omerican Football Federation found itself mired in a corruption and betting scandal. Combined with a riotous fanbase which had caused numerous bouts of destruction, the scandal dogged the team’s World Cup 75 qualifying campaign and ultimately brought the OFF to an untimely end, ordered dissolved by the Sessions Court of the Metropolitan Arrondissement and liquidated to cover the fines issued to its executives. In the aftermath of the scandal, the cantonal football associations, which had predated and existed parallel to the OFF, formed the Commonwealth Soccer Federation to take over the OFF’s functions and opted to pull Omerica from international competition. Half a decade later, a new national team emerged to contest the Independents Cup and, after much internal debate, the World Cup with little success.

Maeve Bronte

Maeve Bronte was actually nervous. Actually nervous. The woman who had captained a side to the Globe Cup semi-finals, and the World Cup, actually felt like her stomach was about to drop out through her. Somehow none of this felt proper, it felt against the rules, like she were somehow cheating the system. Maybe it wouldn't have seemed so bad if Schottia hadn't been the World Champions, but the idea of getting leg up like this was just wrong - surely? She almost felt as if she was being disloyal to Jim Reid, it was like he was dead and she was taking a big shit on her grave. Jim had given up everything for the Christopheran national team, but in a sense Maeve had too. It was different for Jim though, he had got a new job straight off the bat, a step up managing Brenecia. He deserved it, she would never grudge him it, after the dedication he had shown living on that fucking island, he deserved to walk into any job he wanted. The thing was, however, she had given up a lot too, and it wasn't like Brenecia could pick up the phone and offer her a chance to play in the World Cup. Maeve was in her prime, arguably world-class, and Schottia was her one chance.

As she walked up Calton Road, the floodlights of Harbour Hill Stadium slowly loomed into view. She had never seen Schottia's national stadium as home, and it didn't feel any more welcoming now. It was early summer, and the students who populated the tenement flats on either side of the street were out sitting in their shabby little gardens, lounging on their unkempt lawns. The smoke from disposable barbeques and cigarettes drifted up into the (very un-Schottic) cobalt sky. Many of them had their tops off, or were even in swimming costumes. For Maeve however, she didn't even consider it warm until it reached at least thirty degrees. Her parents had moved to the City of Port Christopher before she was a year old, her father having accepted a job as a Chef in one of the Willox Street hotels. She didn't know anything else other than heat and humidity, and it kind of desensitised you.

What did you wear to a meeting like this anyway? Was she going to an interview? Maeve had no idea, what sort of tone to strike, and had no idea what they were going even say:

'Sorry Ms Bronte, I'm afraid we have decided you aren't fit to pull on a Schottia jersey. Do you really think it's acceptable to turn up to an interview in jeans?'

Shit, this was a fucking interview? Maeve froze as she reached the bottom of the steps leading up to the Harbour Hill offices. What if she had to fill out a form - answer some questions to prove that she was Schottic enough? What if they didn't like the cut of her jib? Was this not just a given, that Christopheran players could now play for Schottia? They were Schottian after all... Apparently not. The problem was supposedly to do with the fact that Schottia had a policy of not calling up players who had been capped in WCC sanctioned matches for other nations. Had Maeve never played for Port Christopher then it would have been no problem, but the fact that she had already received going on for a hundred caps presented a bit of an issue. After nearly two months of deliberation, the SFA had decided that former Christopheran internationals would in fact be able to play for Schottia, however they would be required to put their names forward in person, in a meeting with the SFA Board. The official line was something like:

'While we remain opposed, in principal, to the arbitrary chopping and changing of footballing allegiance, we accept that Port Christopher represents a special case.'

They were smart jeans... Maeve looked down at her legs. They were black, and barely even jeans at all. Jean-cut, maybe - but not jeans. All of a sudden she was paranoid about the way she was dressed. Maybe she should have come in a suit, but wouldn't that have been going overboard? Aaargh!!!

With a deep breath she pushed through the door, and into the foyer of the Harbour Hill Offices. How hard could this be? Twelve months ago she had been defending a desert island from invaders. This had to be a breeze, right?

'Maeve Bronte.' She said with a smile, walking up to an elderly man, sat behind the reception desk. The entrance hall was tall and cavernous, and her plimsoll shoes made a quiet squeaking sound as she passed over the white marble tiles. 'I have appointment with Director of the SFA.' She clasped her hands behind her back, politely standing to attention. She watched the man closely, worrying for a split second that he was some waxwork museum piece. He looked somehow dry and dusty, like he had been placed there by accident. This was Schottia at its best.

It took the man an age to answer, but he slowly creaked into life, as if a coin had been dropped in a slot. 'What's that lass?'

'My name is Maeve Bronte...' She watched as the man placed a pair of half-moon glasses on the bridge of his nose and began scanning through the pages of a heavy, leather bound diary. 'That M - A - E - V...'

'Hang on... hold your horses...' He said, incapable of keeping up, as he ran a dry, wrinkled index finger across the oversized ledger. 'What was your surname again sweetheart?'

Maeve did not enjoy being called sweetheart. 'Bronte. B-R-O...'

'I can spell just fine lass...' Maeve spotted her appointment on the page (looking at it upside down) about half a minute before the old man did, who needed to remove his glasses and wipe them, as if that was the problem.

'Maeve Bronte?' He waited for her to nod her conformation. 'You have a meeting with the SFA Director?'

'I do Sir.'

'Then take a wee seat over there and someone will call you up.'

How bad was Omerica’s World Cup qualifying campaign? By every measure, the worst
Les Incorrigibles have been absolutely awful and a tough-looking IAC will be do or die

Sport is not the usual speciality of La Romainbourgeoise, but let us indulge momentarily.

The fourth Independents Cup is fast approaching and Omerica will obviously be looking to rake in some results to justify the mere existence of its national football team. And boy do we need to, because our first World Cup qualifying campaign sure as hell didn’t. With some time removed between us and the ugly bloodbath, it is high time to quantify how awful Omerica’s return was.

One look at the table is all one needs to know that it was embarrassing. With two automatic qualifying places on the line, Omerica finished 28 points behind group winners Valanora and 22 points short of qualifying. New Danican, who finished immediately above Omerica, were ten points clear when the dust finally settled. Omerica wound up finishing seventh, the lowest ranking Omerica has ever wound up with in a qualifying group.

It doesn’t help that Omerica faced nine opponents in the last campaign: one more than Omerica faced in the qualifiers for World Cup 70, two more than Omerica faced in its qualifying début and three more than Omerica faced in their sole successful qualifying campaign in World Cup 74. It is naturally difficult to compare placements from one campaign to the next, due to the ever-so-slightly different qualifying formats necessitated by the varying number of entrants in each edition, but we have aimed to solve that by calculated a Placement Index, which is calculated as the ratio of group rivals a nation placed higher than to the number of opponents the nation faced. If a nation wins their qualifying group, then they have a PI of 100, as they have by definition placed higher than all other teams; the nation that finishes last has a PI of 0, regardless of the size of the group, due to the fact that every other nation in the group has placed higher.

To simplify the Placement Index down to a single mathematical formula, it is simply (s−p)/(s−1), where s is the size of the group and p is a team’s final placement.

WCQ70: 4th of 9 → 5/8 = 62.5
WCQ71: 4th of 8 → 4/7 = 57.1

And thus Omerica’s awful finish is further confirmed. By Placement Index, World Cup 79 was Omerica’s worst ever qualifying campaign, smashing the previous record set two decades prior by nine-and-half points and finishing 23.8 points behind joint the third-worst World Cup 71 and 72 campaigns. The PI also busts a myth of continuous progression in Omerica’s earlier years, with World Cup 71 representing a 5.4 point step backwards compared to World Cup 70, which would not be better until Omerica’s infamous third-place finish in the World Cup 73 qualifiers.

The point is that the Omerican Football Federation side made significant inroads in their second campaign, only to regress in campaign number three and not make serious headway towards qualification until nearly a decade after the team had started play. Compared to the likes of BoF69 champions Soltsteed, who finished the last World Cup campaign with a PI double that of Omerica and were heart-crushingly close to lifting the Cup of Harmony, Omerica has been completely hapless. Given that their two talismans—keeper Emmet Ferdinand and striker Emma Gryndhout—retired from international duty immediately after the Cup of Harmony final, where the Stallions lost to Juvencus on penalties, and the manager Jan-Peter Wietdal had been given orders to guide the Stallions to the semifinals or face the axe, Omerica has been amazingly forgiving with its national team, contrary to the temperamental stereotype that afflicted the OFF during its existence.

But this is not even the worst of Omerica’s woes. By every other measure, Omerica has never done worse in a qualifying campaign that it did in World Cup 79. Les Incorrigibles’ four-tenths of a goal per game is a quarter of the previous low. Omerica’s average margin (goal difference divided by games played) of −0.8 is an all-time low for any tournament. Omerica’s 0.9 points per game is the lowest the nation has ever achieved. And whether draws count as losses, as half-wins or are not even factored in at all, Omerica’s win percentage in the last campaign was worse than any prior.

None of this is to impugn on the man who led it all. Ryan Pritchard’s legacy will not be measured by Les Incorrigibles’ failures, but by the fact the team even exists at all. His World Cup 74 success story, though tainted by the scandal that brought down the Omerican Football Federation, will ever remain a golden chapter in the history of Commonwealth football. Pritchard will certainly be remembered for his success, but his resignation was truly all about his failures and it is left to Christine Salmond to find a new path forward.

Her first tournament in charge was a disappointment, with Omerica finishing second-last in the group, but it was far from Omerica’s worst performance in the Cup of Harmony. By almost every measure, it was superior to the Les Incorrigibles’ performances under Pritchard. By all accounts, Salmond is working with the players she has and looking to the depths of Omerica’s newly-established professional leagues to scour for potential national team talents. Red Bolton is in the position he excels in in the snowy fields of Coleraine, Morgan Barzetti is not left in an unenviable position without backup and the weakly-performing Charity Kayode has been benched for not contributing to the team as much as starters have been expected to.

And speaking of Barzetti, her signing with Cherrygrove City of Soltsteed represents a minor step forward for Omerica, signifying that national team players who dare to take their talents to foreign leagues will not be forced to hang up their boots back in Omerica. Making history as the first player in a foreign league to play for Omerica at the international level, Morgan Barzetti—who was already a ground-breaker as one of the first women to play for Omerica—is emblematic of the new way the Commonwealth is carving.

This IAC will be played under an ugly 28-team format, with seven groups of four. 114th-ranked Omerica kick off against the 58th-ranked United States of Devonta, followed by a brush with 20th-ranked IAC veterans Drawkland and unranked débutantes Mareibat. Thanks to the right of the two best third-place teams to join the group winners and runners-up in the knock-out phase, Omerica really only need a single solid win combined with narrow margins in the two other matches to have a real chance of going through. An upset against Devonta would practically guarantee Omerica a place in the Round of 16, but keeping the USD to a draw or a narrow win are more realistic goals. Omerica will then need to keep their margin against Drawkland as tight as possible and defeat Mareibat to secure a place in the knock-outs. Once there—if there—the sky is the limit.

Les Incorrigibles was always meant to be an insult, poking fun at the inability of the nation to learn from its mistakes on the international sporting stage. The past few years may have been dire, but maybe, just maybe, incorrigibles we are not. That all depends on whether this Independents Cup campaign goes well or not. Maybe, despite all of the evidence that it will not, it will.

But now the Samahang Futbol ng Abanhfleft has decided that the Independents Cup is actually a good place to blood in new players they are considering for inclusion for the next World Cup cycle campaign. Unfortunately for her, this performance hasn't carried to her first international call-up in the Sporting World Cup, where she conceded a total of 14 goals in the tournament. But the presence of an experienced back four in front of her could help her concede less in this tournament. Despite being a rapidly rising star in Sarvusdalamoive, Qatintiki opted to cut her contract and sign up for the Pridnestrovian Volunteer Legions in ESTORVIPA. She could actually be charged with treason for fighting for another sovereign nation but the SFA has pulled favors with the Ministry of Justice to delay her trial until the end of the Independents Cup.

RB: Georgine BAUM 18 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies

Another player with foreign roots playing for the Democratic Republic. This time, Georgine's parents are immigrants, or rather expats, from Pridnestrovia, who escaped the country after her father said a few things that were not to President Field Marshal Stepan Stepanenko's liking. Georgine is more than likely to play for Abanhfleft in the future, but stranger things have happened. Arkadia Zubarenko did end up playing for Pridnestrovia after years in Abanhfleft's youth teams. Baum has always played on the left before so seeing her on the right side this time could be a bit of a shock for her but apparently people trust Georgine to hit the ground running after being thrown off the deep end, so....

RCB: Catarina SOLER 28 y/o, Keephall Valkyries

Soler has served as a dependable supporting unit for both center-backs, but once again she is a player that is played out of position in most international games that she gets to play. Soler prefers being a true center-back, but that doesn't mean that she shirks from the responsibilities of being a central fullback shifted a little to the right or the left. Soler had a chance to rise up to the senior women's team but a drop in form coinciding with injuries has kept her out of the national team setup until now. Now Catarina wants to prove that she still has what it takes to be an international quality center back.

LCB: Miranda SULLINS 22 y/o, Sporting Ceneisis Women

An exciting prospect if only for the fact that she had gotten herself noticed through the Sporting Ceneisis youth academy, which had been a bit neglected by Artemio Peres in favor of getting players both locally and abroad for as much as his team's Bellinsgauzenian boss is willing to let him spend. Still, it wouldn't do to take away from the fact that she is indeed a good defender, if a bit raw even for the standards of the under-21 teams. And an international call-up such as thing can do no harm to her career. Right?

LB: Claudia ROOS 19 y/o, Dinamo Bender Women

(Pridnestrovia), on loan from Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies

They once said that Claudia is the player on the under-15 team who is most likely to end up representing another nation once she hits the senior level. Abanhfleft is enjoying Claudia's services while she's still with the team, as she is already turning into a future star winger, what with her pace, crossing ability, and incisive runs into the box. But with Claudia's inclusion into the Independents Cup squad (albeit playing as a fullback to supposedly improve the defensive side of her game), it looks like Abanhfleft has finally secured her for a future spot in the women's national team.

RM: Trinidad KLEIST 20 y/o, Xemlice Rovers Ladies

At such a young age, Trinnie, as she likes to be called, is already developing into a no-nonsense center defensive midfielder, breaking up attacks and stopping counters. Unfortunately, that also means a lot of bookings and the occasional red card for her. Trinnie still has to learn to control herself, and surely she can keep a cool head now that she's playing on the international stage and under great managers in Heinrich Wurzmann and Miriam Whitaker?

LM: Cecily SEGOVA 20 y/o, Ladies of Santos FC

(Oontaz Dert Li Ng), on loan from Riuwiee United Women

CeCe is the foil to Trinidad Kleist's hard-hitting CDM. The Oontaz-born central midfielder is the creative outlet for the midfield, setting up passes and long balls to initiate the attack. But that doesn't mean she shirks from her defensive responsibilities. Still, like Trinnie, CeCe is still a bit enthusiastic with the sliding tackles and will get her name on the referee's notebook a fair few times. Another member of the second-place under-15 team from Schottia who was included in the under-21 team and now the Independents Cup team.

RW: Sohaila MAGOMEDOVA 20 y/o, Exiles FK

The daughter of a Pridnestrovian father and a Nordskanian mother who was born on Fleftic soil, Sohaila is one of Heinrich Wurzmann's latest finds from the Alternative Football Program. Her idols growing up were tricky players like Finn Jameson, Ruud Akinfenyor, and Matthew Cave, and Sohaila certainly has the feet to emulate them. Of course, being young, Sohaila's legs often get away from her and she more than occasionally trips up. But when she gets her moves right, Sohaila is unstoppable.

CAM: Kassandra PRATT 20 y/o, Riuwiee United Women

Riuwiee United are really going out of their way to make sure that their women's team is on par with the men's team. Kass has the beginnings of the playmaking attacking midfielder that the Blue Tribeswomen have sorely needed in their team, but it will still take a long, long time before she can be reasonably included into the first team. However, that long, long time appears to have arrived now as Kass is now considered ready for at least the Independents Cup.

LW: Amelie RUSEV 18 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies

Amelie Rusev is the best player on current Fleftic under-18 team after Gareth Williamson. At just 18 years old, she's already looking like the complete winger package. Not only is she both quick and light on her feet and strong in the air and during challenges, she is ambidextrous, able to use both feet to send in long balls and crosses into the box when she wants. With that added crossing ability, Amelie is already on her way to the first team of Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies at such a tender age. Kasper Molak will surely look to make Amelie the successor to Raisa Korovina as the next Miss Ludogorets.

ST: Kelly McGINNIS 18 y/o, Airbus Fhulgamous Besanza Women

Kelly McGinnis could very well be the next Chelsea Stuart. Lord knows she's got the raw talent in her veins and her feet. Her only problem is in getting out of Besanza to continue her development and make sure that it's on the right track to actually making her the next Chelsea Stuart. Kelly wants to move abroad to develop herself in a world-class side, and she believes that the Sporting World Cup is her way to gaining that attention and getting that move abroad. She did well in her first stint abroad, winning a domestic cup with Mercedini's Hoventon & Corlington Town, but another potential loan move to the Gallian Union fell through and she's had to stay with Airbus Besanza for this season. This could very well change though as another opportunity could be opening up for her, but it's going to take her much farther away from the Fhulghamous than just Mercedini....

Bronwyn is the daughter of Rosenpfelblatz City's new manager Joseph "Joe" Churchill, one of the most decorated managers in the sport within the Fleftic sphere of influence. Bronwyn came with her dad to Rosenpfelblatz and immediately settled in well with the Lady Sky Blues' academy. She is a traditional keeper who prefers to keep close to goal and catch or slap away shots from that position, although she is learning to become a more athletic keeper now that she's training with the likes of Yannie Redborne, Marfa Kirilenko, and Blaze Chrzanowska. It should be noted that Joe Churchill would have liked it more if his daughter had not wanted to be a goalkeeper, but at least he as a father won't worry about where she's been before, during, and after training because they're always in close proximity to each other.

GK: Stephanie BRYAN 29 y/o, Antslinngs Islands Ladies

Stephanie Bryan finally gets to represent the blue, orange, and green once again after over four years of sitting out due to a new reliance on the likes of Yannie Redborne and Yelena Valinovskaya to ride the bench while Victoria Carter is on form, but with Redborne now retiring from international footie and Valinovskaya recovering from ligament repair surgery, Steph will now get the chance to be seen riding the Fleftic bench once again. But whether she will be the long-term replacement for Carter and the rest is still up in the air as there are more promising keepers out there, at least according to Holly Jonasson. For the Independents Cup, Stephanie is more of a manager than a player, but Abanhfleft needs to submit at least three goalkeepers, so....

RB: Alma WALKER 20 y/o, Rushmori Drawks

Alma Walker is a decent right back who looks destined to be an actual right back instead of the myriad wingbacks who seem to be cropping up like weeds all over Abanhfleft's academies. Alma is actually ambidextrous with her feet and can play in both fullback positions fairly well and effectively (kind of like Tonya Heaton) but she prefers to work on the right side of the pitch. Doesn't mean that she can't do a good job on the left, though.

CB: Christy SHEPLEY 19 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies

t 6 feet 2 inches, Christy is already one of the tallest 17-year-old Fleftic central defenders ever in the Democratic Republic and its sphere of influence. Coupled with a supernatural defensive ability, it's a wonder why she's still on the bench and not starting, until one realizes that Christy is quite the thin and willowy girl. She's a good defender and good in aerial and dead-ball situations, there's no doubt about that, but she has to bulk up and get stronger if she is to become one of Abanhfleft's best defenders. She remains on the bench to make way for Miranda Sullins and Catarina Soler in this Independents Cup squad.

LB: Lauree McATEER 18 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Women

Lauree's first international football experience was sitting on the bench of the Fleftic under-15 team during their debut appearance in the 9th Under-15 World Cup in Schottia. Although she's Port Thimpodopoulos born and bred, Lauree is being given a chance to show that she can represent the blue, orange, and green, and as she is a good and quick defender, it looks as if she's finally making the step up from the bench to the Fleftic starting eleven. She could have ended up representing the Fhulghamous Peninsula when she reaches the senior level, but stranger things have happened, and both Heinrich Wurzmann and new women's boss Miriam Whitaker saw what they wanted in Lauree and called her up.

CM: Stephanie WINTER-SLAUGHTER 21 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Women

Winter-Slaughter's surname sounds rather weird when you consider her biggest asset is an unprecedented sense of justice, but it really is. Winter-Slaughter, while a competent midfielder with enough room to grow, became much more notorious for her actions both in and outside of the field, often helping opponents and team-mates at distress from injuries or pretty much anything else. Conquered some hearts for her kindness, funnily enough. Stephanie was given Fleftic citizenship on the recommendation of Heinrich Wurzmann after the disappearance of the Unified Sunrise Islands so that Abanhfleft could take advantage of her talents.

CM: Abigail PAPADIAMANTOPOULOS 25 y/o, All-Inclusive Haranguer

Abigail is the tallest player in this roster at 6 feet 8 inches, taller than even her supposed lookalike Stephanie Bryan. Abigail used to play Sunday league with Anglatia's Ross Port Rangers before Fleftic scouts noticed her during the 38th Di Bradini Cup and she signed a contract with Wallace Partridge's All-Inclusive Haranguer. Partridge chose to sign Abigail due to her size and her playstyle which is very much reminiscent of one of the most famous (if not the best) players to put on the black-and-amber shirt in Sutalen "The Beast of Copper Cuprum" Desoka. Despite helping All-Inclusive Haranguer to a fifth-place finish in the 2022-23 season, she was never called up for Anglatia's national team, and with the country now returning to its policy of total isolation, Abigail was given Fleftic citizenship on the recommendation of Heinrich Wurzmann so the SFA could take advantage of her skills on the pitch.

CM: ERIN Jensdottir-Jennings 24 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies

We finally come to one of the most controversial additions to Abanhfleft's Independents Cup squad yet. Not a person living in Abanhfleft hasn't heard of the story of Erin Jensdottir and her friend Britt Hanokssen. The two of them had gotten in trouble with an Anglatian gang and their friend Bisera Haralampieva, of Rosen City Ladies and Pridnestrovia women's national team fame, called on another friend of hers to get Erin and Britt out of trouble. They did so by faking Erin and Britt's deaths and substituting them for two dead bodies. Britt and Erin had ended up playing for FC United of Riuwiee in the seventh tier of Fleftic football before they finally came clean about their status, resulting in the biggest ever points deduction in Fleftic football history and a massive settlement package with Hunsen Loggers from United of Riuwiee for both Erin and Britt. Erin is described as the complete playmaker able to operate from deep or right in front with the forwards, which is why Heinrich Wurzmann recommended her naturalization in time for the Independents Cup.

CAM: BRITT Hanokssen-Hanks 21 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies

Erin Jensdottir's best friend and girlfriend, Britt has been called "too ambitious for her own good" by the man who would eventually recommend bringing Britt over to Rosenpfelblatz, Matthew Cave. Britt isn't exactly the best, most mobile, most skillful, fastest, or most accurate player available for the Independents Cup, but she makes up for it in her sheer never-say-die attitude. Other things that other players might consider lost causes are just more challenges for Britt to overcome. That being said, if Britt does end up making an appearance for Abanhfleft, it's probably more out of desperation than anything else. But still, no one knows. Maybe this is the tournament where Britt finally shines bright.

CAM: Prudence WOODWARD 18 y/o, Duhblakk Aztecs

Prudence Woodward is the third and final player of Panemian descent to represent the blue, orange, and green for the Sporting World Cup. She is the younger sister of Julius Woodward and her future appears to be in central attacking midfield. Prudence is already displaying a taste for clever through-balls and occupying pockets of space in which she could create chances and even score a few goals herself. Prudence has also been rumored to be displaying more than just friendly attention and camaraderie with the team's resident lesbian Poppaea Fleet-Street but that's hardly important to the conversation. But although nothing has been confirmed yet, it could be said that it won't be much of a surprise if Prudence came out and admitted that she has a relationship with Poppaea. Also already a mother after an argument with Prudence led to a one-night stand with fellow under-18 teammate Prince William Luckless.

And, judging from her inclusion into the Independents Cup, Heinrich Wurzmann and Miriam Whitaker look to do the same with her for the coming tournament.

Babarushchik used to be in (friendly) competition with Annamarie Sabado for the position of Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies U-21s' starting striker, but Sabado ended up being the winner in the long run as Babarushchik couldn't wait for Chelsea Stuart to retire (which is still a long time coming anyway) and the half-Pridnestrovian striker struck out for greener pastures in the form of Mercedini's Dynamo Shebchetsik. Now, as both Irina and Annamarie return to the Fleftic national team setup for the Independents Cup, they are once again back to competing with each other for the honor of being the next Fleftic super-sub.

Last night's match was a real disappointment for the Cup of Harmony champions. The atmosphere felt really hectic for the talented Juven squad, despite having beaten some really good opposition in harder situations in the past. Amazonesta managed to net 2 fast goals in the first half and set up its sights for victory, but luckily, the gli attaccanti managed to at least tie the scores up and snatch a point after tonight's upset.

The match, as stated, started with a pretty aggressive Amazonesta side, our Sonnelian brothers managed to quickly break down the weakened Juven defence and score a goal in their first chance, on the 5th minute, with an excellent shot by one of their midfielders. Next up, they kept pressuring the Juven side,rocketing them with a barrage of shots, something that not many teams have managed doing on the gli attaccanti. The gli attaccanti however managed to counter pretty late in the first half, on the 38th minute, a long ball made by Provenzano saw Campionato's top scorer Anastasio Campana miss an incredible opportunity for an equaliser, with his shot being saved by the a leaping Amazonestan goalkeeper who later on proceeded to kick the ball in, leading to the Amazonesta side's second goal to increase the differential to up to 2 goals. The first half was a disaster, with Amazonesta leading the Cup of Harmony champions 0-2.

Toset certainly gave a speech to remember to the players on the dressing room and surprisingly the Juven squad got back on track. They quickly showed domination in the first part of the second half, with a really strong Campana shot hitting the crossbar in the 53rd minute. Quickly after, a set of passes from Provenzano and Rodrigues saw Alberighi in a great spot to score the first goal for Juvencus in the tournament, however it was wide. And while it all seemed lost in the dying minutes of the game, Elio Provenzano,
being in the left side of the pitch crossed the ball in the box and Campana, jumping higher than everybody else managed to score the first goal of the gli attaccanti, in the 81st minute. Now, the gli attaccanti, with a bit of morale by their side, keep pummeling the Amazonesta side with a lot of chances. Laterza's shot in the 85th minute was saved, while Alberighi was fouled 38 meters outside the box at the 87th minute, Ramires, the free-kick taker crossed it in with Campana scoring yet another header, equalising to the final-time score of 2-2. A bitter-sweet performance that left the gli attaccanti disappointed and jeopardizes the entire campaign, the squad will need to follow up with 2 more wins, in order to qualify to the round of 16 of the Independents Cup. Next game is against Alpine Union, which crushed Space with a 6-3 scoreline.

Part two.

'Please take a seat Ms Bronte. Maeve? Can I call you Maeve?' Fergus Ersckine, the Director of the SFA was of a cheerful disposition. He had smartly cut grey hair, and a neatly clipped beard, which seemed to create the illusion of a permanent smile. He stretched out a hand, shaking Maeve's with a firmness which was bordering on painful.

'Maeve is fine Mr Ersckine.' She replied, trying not to make her own handshake seem limp by comparison. It had been a long wait down stairs, and she had now worked herself up into a ball of nerves. It was like there was a little old lady, sitting in her midriff, knitting her intestines into a woolly hat.

'Please.' Fergus gestured towards the seat once more, holding it out for Maeve to easier sit down. 'There will be no second names here, let's leave out titles at the door.' When he smiled he looked a Father Christmas in a suit. 'We're all on the same side here, it's just a case of a couple of formalities, of few boxes to tick, you understand I hope, Maeve?'

Maeve felt the tension lift at long last. 'Yes Mr... I mean Fergus... that's how I feel of course. You won't believe this, but I was actually a little worried that there might be some sort of stupid questionnaire...' Maeve glanced at the sheet of paper on the desk in front of her. '...to... fill... out...'

'No, Maeve...' Fergus shook his head. 'Questionaire is quite a strong word. Let's just call it a-research-instrument-consisting-of-a series-of-questions-for-the-purpose-of-gathering-information-from-a-respondent.'

Maeve looked at him, eyes wide, mouth slightly open.

'It should only take you about ten minutes, then we can get on with the meeting proper.' Fergus grinned. 'You're time has already started, so I don't want to keep you.'

She looked around the room for a few seconds, but upon realising this was in fact not a joke, she had no choice but to get cracking.

1. Cornellains. 2. World Cup 73. 'The Runner Cup, fucking, 2? I was like a fucking kid back then... Oh Wait!!!' 3. Ceni 'Yes, it was Ceni. Eh...' 4. Jane Gullie 'Jesus Christ!'

The ten minutes passed in a heartbeat, and before she knew it Fergus had plodded back into the room. 'Finished, Maeve?'

'Eh, yeah, just got there in the end...' She answered, cracking her fingers and finally taking a breath. She watched as two other SFA Board Members entered behind Fergus and took up their places behind the desk, which all of a sudden looked more intimidating. 'I wasn't sure if it was going to be a formal interview.' She tried, ever hopeful that it was not.

'No, Maeve.' Fergus smiled, but neither of the two women who now flanked him at the table shared in the mirth. 'Lets not use the term interview, lets just call it a-face-to-face-meeting-where-questions-are-put-to-an individual-for-the-purposes-of-determining-whether-or-not-they-are-a-suitable-candidate. I think it takes the pressure off when you drop the word interview.'

'Okay...'

'So Maeve, while my colleague checks the answers on your sheet.' He passed the not-questionnaire to the woman on his right. 'Let's start. In your own word, what would you say makes you particularly suitable to play for Schottia?'

'Suitable?' Maeve asked, looking perplexed. It was clearly the wrong thing to do, as the woman to Fergus' left frowned and shook her head, while making a note.

'Yeah.' Fergus made a big broad gesture with his arms. 'What are your strengths main?'

'Ah-urgh...' Maeve opened her mouth, but it took a second before the noises became words. 'Leadership... I'm strong, fit, I have good concentration levels. I - eh - I'm experienced...'

It was Schottia's first competitive outing since lifting the World Cup title, and as they took on a young Free Republics side, it seemed the visitors were determined to make things difficult. Lionel Mah handed a debut to Cazadores Cathair's Matthew Ingold at left back, but it was otherwise a more or less full strength starting eleven, for the World Champions.

The visitors kept pace with Schottia in what was an action packed first half. Despite finding the back of the net goals from Kim Coultan, and Corinne Martel-Burns, Schottia were forced to head up the tunnel at half time, with the scores at 2-2. Crawford City star Coultan, gave the hosts the lead after seventeen minutes, cutting inside teenager, Vaclav Urbanek, before finishing with a low strike into the bottom corner. The lead was short lived however, as Kalervo Peltola pulled the trigger four minutes later to level the scores. Schottia have looked good going forward in recent seasons, and Camila Soria Luna was particularly dangerous in the first half. Line Stenberg, by contrast, looked a little off-colour on the left wing, and other than a 34th minute shot flashed across the face of goal, it was a quiet afternoon for the Kingsgrove girl. Schottia did retake the lead however, after a surging run forward from Louis Hordern dragged several players out of position, before the United man picked out Martel-Burns for the side's second. It is rumoured that the Polaris striker is on the verge of securing a $33 million move Tihon Tide, and she showed why she is in such high demand with a composed finish. Once again, Schottia were unable to make their advantage stick, and 17-year-old Johnny Smith caught Harry Gould of his line to equalise for the side from Lunia, who were giving as good as they got.

A clever passing move from Schottia, allowed Evelyn Conjure the time she needed to thread the ball through to Kim Coultan, as the home side retook the lead just after the restart. Coultan, who seems to be getting even better with age, was sharp as a tack, sprinting through to hammer the ball past Stig Roivas for 3-2. The Auks had chances to extend their lead, as first substitute Isaiah Vaught hit the post, before a heroic block from Zak Josef denied Conjure a certain goal. These chances were to come back to haunt Schottia unfortunately, as Love Holm took advantage of their inability to clear their lines, squaring the match for a third time.

It's times like these when you need something special, and just when it looked like the match was headed for a draw, up stepped Jessica Lennox. Unheard of three years ago, the 24-year-old has really been making a name for herself in Chromatika, and her goal in this match will have instantly endeared her to the Schottia fans. Coultan, was once again involved, and after a quick one-two with Soria Luna, she unselfishly played the ball across to Lennox for an open goal.

It was a hard match, and a draw might have even been a fair result. However with some big performances, particularly a person of the match display from Kim Coultan, Schottia lived to fight another day.

Nickname: Iscantan Mereadas Zeradadas: Instead of an English national team nickname, South Toronton fans voted to change it to the Exzapan version ahead of the CoH 71. The Exzapa people are a tribe that has lived in South Toronto for almost thousands of years and helped South Toronto gain independence. Many Exzapa natives would identify themselves as a black person as Exzapa people are usually very brown in colour. Exzapa people usually reside in the western states, such as Dershire, Gejan, Racan, Salarkis and Nanseilley where they live in peace without distractions. The Exzapan language is mandatory in all school curriculums, as a rule in South Toronto requires that all students must be fluent in 3 or more languages in an attempt to establish more trade with other countries. Since many South Torontons are able to speak Exzapan, it was proposed by STFA President Alli Denham to change the national team name to the Exzapan version to promote South Toronton culture.The English translation of 'Iscantan Mereadas Zeradadas' is 'The Eternal Blazing Phoenixes', and the Eternal Phoenix is the national animal of South Toronto.

GK: Asmeh Asamoah Ondoa: ( Age 17)A exciting prospect, he broke into the first team during the World Cup 79 Qualifiers when Antonio Cilimintaro was sadly killed. Already establishing himself as a first team regular in Cragonos Mountains at the age of 15, Asmeh is more accomplished than many players older than him, winning the STFL 2 (South Toronton Football League 2) and the Titanorboa Cup(equivalent of league cup).He is known to be a sweeper keeper, being very composed on 1 v 1 situations. However, poor decision making has cost the Iscantan Mereadas Zeradadas many late conceded goals. However, Asmeh has a long playing career ahead of him and can improve greatly on his skills.

RB: Prince Abou Diaby (Age 23) Playing in the BoF and the World Cup 79 Qualifiers, Prince has secured his place in the national team as he is arguably the best right back in South Toronto. He is very fast and strong, an overpowered commination has saw him out speed the fastest of attackers and easily tacking the ball with no issue. He is a versatile defensive player, being able to play LB, CB, RB and even CDM. But despite seeming to be the perfect defender, Prince is only 5'8" which rules him out of aerial duties against taller players.

CB: Bryan Penelope (Age 18) Bryan came in the team when substitute Taha El-Hindi was forced to go into the first team due to the sad loss of Anders Killerich during the World Cup 79 Qualifiers. A number of good performances for club Mitis Town impressed Axel as he saw potential in the 18-year-old.Bryan is very physical and uses his absurd amount of strength to retrieve the ball. However, he is the most likely player in the team to either get booked or be sent off, though Bryan has been working on controlling his aggression and has many years ahead of him.

CB: Jamal Seruku (Age 18) A product of the revamp of the footballing system, Jamal was scouted by top team Aredia City and appeared for the club 97 times, the 12th most appearances than any other player in the history of Aredia City, as the record appearances(423) was broken by Yung Ki Son, father of current player Ni Ling Son. Seruku is always consistent tackling and passing, and is surprisingly the team's penalty taker showing Aredia City's youth academy is superior to most teams in South Toronto. However, Jamal is horrible at heading-something which most defenders are not-and as is the most likely to miss an open goal.

LB: Paul Makanjoko (Age 18) Proving young players can perform at a high level, Paul has time and time again proved critics wrong with mesmerising dribbling skills and exceptional crossing. At only eighteen years old, he has already 16 caps appearing at the BoF and the World Cup 79 Qualifiers and has unlimited potential. However, many critics claim he doesn't track back which allows the opposition to have a counter attack and is often pushed over by attackers who are stronger than him being only 5'4" and therefore is the smallest player on the team. It will be interesting to see how this young prospect deals with this amount of pressure on him by the media.

RCM: Ni Ling Son(Age 21) Son of legendary player Yung Ki Son, Ni Ling has been under a lot of pressure by the media to emulate and surpass his father's success. The current rate Ni Ling's skills are developing, he will surpass his fathers' success in 2-3 years. Ni Ling is the glue that holds the team together and is one of the most versatile players in South Toronto being able to play LB, CB, CM, CDM ,LM ,CAM LW, ST, showing how balanced his skills are from defending, to passing, to shooting and dribbling. He is more of a defensive midfielder and is almost the opposite of Owen Wright However, Ni Ling is the second smallest player in the team, being only 5'6" which means he can't play CB without a stronger, taller partner. But his curse is a blessing at the same time because he can dribble through an entire team as if they weren't there and is most likely to score a solo goal.

LCM: Owen Wright (Age 23) A counterpart of Ni Ling Son, Owen plays as a more offensive midfielder and is actually the best finisher in the entire team. The media criticises Axel for not changing his position to a ST, but Owen has passing that would be wasted at a ST position. Owen is technically gifted but has average stamina and limited pace which combined with being quite physically weak rules him out of being a ST and he is better suited at CM.

CAM: Michal Bergman(Captain) (Age 21) One of the best players currently on the team, Michal is almost the complete forward being able to dribble, pass, take set pieces and longshots. He shows amazing leadership skills and is most likely to score from a set piece. Michal, Owen and Ni Ling are the ultimate midfield partnership with the perfect contrast between defensive skills, shooting , dribbling and overall intelligence. However, an occurring theme of lack of strength and other physical aspects is displayed throughout the midfield, though they are still a formidable force.

RW: DeAndre Kiese-Thelin(Age 19) Kiese Thelin was converted to RW from LB because he wasn't keeping up with defensive capabilities. He also scored 5 goals in the BoF, more than any other South Toronton player during the BoF. Known for blistering pace, he uses his pace and dribbling skills to outwit defenders and slide it into the goal. DeAndre is the most likely to earn his team a set piece, but is often booked for diving, a trait previous player Helder Bastos shared.

ST: Jozy Dembele(Vice-Captain) (Age 19) Proving his worth, Jozy has performed consistently at a high level. A phenomenal dribbler, He is calm on the ball and doesn't rush into any decisions unless there is a good chance of scoring and is vice-captain for his determination and willingness to improve. He is not the fastest player, but has a huge frame at 6'4" disproving the myth that taller players are target men and aren't great dribblers. He is the most likely to score via a header or a volley, but Jozy is limited in the area of passing. Still, he has time to improve on that.

LW: Tyrese Townsend (Age 18) A new addition to the side, Tyrese was scouted by the national team while playing in a juvenile detention center. The scout, Mohamed Tawfiq, saw Tyrese's dribbling and pace as something needed in the Iscantan Mereadas Zeradadas and offered him a trial at the next training session as soon as he was released. He was signed up by club Frostveil City and put in a number of excellent performances, scoring 19 goals in the first half of the season to earn a call up. Tyrese is a very skillful player, and is a brilliant finisher with an almost trademark finesse shot into the bottom corner. However, he isn't consistent with shooting but is a overall good finisher.

Brian Ashgrove was a giant in the Mareibatian footballing landscape. He'd managed the first Mareibatian national team, years ago now in the Campionato Esportiva, built from the ground up as an institution over the years - forever hamstrung by the inability of MBC to do, well, anything. Additionally, he was a giant, his tall 6ft4 frame dominating any room he walked into, especially thanks to his wild, unkempt white hair, which permanently gave off the impression that he'd just been violently electric shocked.

For the ageing Arthur Clark however, running up a steep incline on one of the hills just outside Halholzer, being chased by Ashgrove, who was cycling behind - no, chasing behind them, shouting through a megaphone, all he could think was;
"Pleaaaaaase fuuuuuck off." Shortly after being impressed at how Ashgrove, nearly twice his age, was managing to keep up.

"COME ON TEAM!" the strained voice of their coach from behind them echoed,
"THINK ABOUT THAT FIRST GAME!" Clark could barely see the figures of Aristotle Weaver and Richard Armada in the distance, near the top of the hill,
"THINK ABOUT THE VICTORY YOU WANT AGAINST DRAWKLAND!" Arthur could see some of the team stopping at the top of the hill.
"I WANT YOU TO REALLY WANT THAT WI... DID I TELL YOU TO STOP UP THERE?!?" he roared through the megaphone, as the figures at the top of the hill started to run again,
"OSMOND!" he barked, making Osmond Eben in the middle of the pack visibly jump,
"Yes coach?" came the startled reply,
"DO YOU WANT TO WIN AGAINST DRAWKLAND?"
"Yes coach."
"LOUDER"
"Yes coach!"
"LOUDER!"
"YES COACH!"

A slight pause, enough to make everyone look around for a microsecond,

"IN THOOOOOOOOSE GREEN FIELDS," Arthur exchanged a look with Alastair Crumplehorn to his left. Had Ashgrove completely lost it?
"AND ON THOOOOOOOOSE BLUE WAVES," Was he? Was their manager screaming the national anthem at them?
"THE FIERCE ONES BATTLED, come on join in team!" There was some hesitant singing from the tired runners,
"THROUGH THE STORMS, THROUGH THE PAIN!"
"TO SEE MAREIBAT ONCE AGAAAAAAAAAAIN!"

And while he might have some unusual coaching methods, as Richard Armada coolly tucked away their 4th of the match against Drawkland in the 94th minute no less, Arthur Clark, sitting on the bench, could see that it might well work. That thought was diminished a little watching Brian Ashgrove and half the technical team running down the sidelines, screaming like they'd just won the World Cup.

High On Life
Chapter I

Hoventon Station. It's never been the most glamorous place in the nation, although it has proved more than useful for it's millions of users in previous years, mostly helped by the local football team having success in the nation's top division. Direct trains to Rafelonia, Shebchetsik, Orga and Acoflosa kept the queues down and the flow of patrons constant and consistent. The rain was coming down thick and fast on an overcast late Thursday morning, with the station filled with suited professionals as they attempted to beat the midday lunch rush. With all the action going on, a soothing female voice cut through the chaos, which drew the attention of those waiting on the platform.

"The next train calling at Platform 4 is the 11:21 SDF service to Acoflosa Onnoni. Calling at Wilton Barrow, Stonbridge, Rygge North and Acoflosa Onnoni"

Ben Chillotov, currently the youngest ever scorer for the Mercedinian national team, now the most expensive player in Mercedinian history at a price tag of seventeen million. Having grown up around these parts, he was been practically woven into the fibres of the town with the locals all celebrating his successes on the domestic and international stage. But alas, a move had been on the cards for a while and now Azoth was calling for the young Mercedinian.

"The train is arriving now. Okay, I'll call you when I land. Love you!", Ben let out a drawn out sigh as he ended his final phone call with his mother before he officially made Ceni his home. He picked up his Hoventon branded rucksack and rolled his suitcase along the platform towards the train which was coming to a stop in front of him. The doors opened and with an initial struggle to get onto the train, he soon stowed his suitcase by the door and went on his way to find a seat.

Ben made sure to get a four-seat cubicle with a table, to ensure he head plenty of space to put his belongings and stretch his legs for the hour or so journey to Acoflosa. He took off his Hoventon tracksuit jacket before slumping into the seat and watching the train depart from the station, his long journey to Azoth had begun.

Mercedini got theit 4th Independants Cup campaign off to a flying start with a 5-1 demolition of Fungsland at Gauld Park in the Schottic city of South Berwick. The Golden Eagles bought plenty of support with them to Schottia, with the two nations having plenty of history not only as friendly rivals but as co-hosts as recent as two editions ago. Lyndainium named a strong side from his original roster and started teenager Johan Karlovic of Tihon Tide and Mercedinian U21 international Liam Toivonen in the starting eleven for the opening match. Fungsland came into the tournament as debutants and unranked in official WCC rankings, with many pundits and commentators staying wary of a potential dangerous unknown.

Into the first half and it didn't take long for the South Berwick crowd to see their first goal with veteran striker Billic scoring the first goal of the game and opening the scoring in what turned out to be a fairly run of the mill goal. Kraljic held up the play before passing through to Billic who fired into the far corner for 1-0. Kraljic turned from supplier to finisher as he pounced on a piece of lacklustre defending to fire home for a second before half time. A shot from Dostalok was blocked well originally by the Fungsland defender, however no player decided to claim the second ball, so Kraljic was free to scoop up the loose ball an fire low into the net. The Golden Eagles went into the half-time break with a 2-0 break.

Second half came around not too long after, with the Schottic crowd cheering the two teams onto the pitch for the second and final time in the match. Mercedini went into the second half in full control and made the match even more comfortable with third goal from left-winger Vaselko. A lofted cross went over the top over the top of everyone which let Vaselko in with a free shot. His control originally took the ball away from him but he was able to curl his shot into the far corner for 3-0. A decent spell for Fungsland resulted in a maiden goal for them which was well taken on the edge of the box. However, they never really mounted any sort of comeback with chances coming few and far between for the debutantes. Mercedini kept the pressure up in the second half, not being content with the two goal lead they had culminated in the match so far. The South Berwick crowd were enjoying the Schottic sun and saw a fourth goal for Mercedini as Billic hit a half-volley on the edge of the six yard box to but last edition's finalists out of sight in the opening match. The cherry on the cake came with seven minutes remaining on the clock when Mercedini were awarded a penalty after a shirt pull on Karlovic. Dostalok stood over the ball to open his account in the nation he has been very familiar with over the past couple of seasons. With the Berwick United fans not missing a chance to jeer one of the main strikers of Handon United. However, Dostalok stepped up and slotted home a fifth to complete a professional day at the office for the Golden Eagles. No Chillotov in sight, but they didn't need him as Mercedini overcame an unknown Fungsland side by five goals to one. Propelling them to the top of the group.
