How did you get the idea for your flag?

My idea was to change the colors of the North Korean flag, and remove the star and replace it with the logo of Shedd Aquarium.

My original flag was like my current one except with a ring of 13 stars in the middle. I thought it was a bit too American-centric since my nation doesn't just encompass America, so I replaced it with a simplified version of the NATO North Star.

I was deliberately trying to make something that looked like it symbolized my nation. From the flag fact book:

The black background represents night. Being in Antarctica, the nights are sometimes very long. Night is also when the Aurora Australis is viewable.
The blue stripe represents the Southern Ocean that surrounds Antarctica.

The white stripe represents the snow.

The white star in the corner represents the Southern Cross, a constellation in the Southern Hemisphere that points towards the South Pole. The four points could also represent the four provinces of Xmara or the four cardinal directions.

Well I knew that I wanted to create a new NS country, but I didn't know what to do for it or what to name it. So I decided to let it come to me as I designed a flag for it. I didn't have any preconceived idea's for the flag's design, and just sorta put in and took away different ideas as I went along, until I finally settled on one I have here.

My idea was to use the Modern Blue Ensign commonly used by countries like Australia. After a while I realised I wanted my nation to be secessionist, so instead of having the Union Flag in the top-left, I replaced it with the unofficial Leicestershire flag. Afterwards I wanted stars, for... reasons. Anyway I looked at the Leicestershire map and drew stars to symbolise the important towns in the county, with the red star symbolizing Leicester City.

I immediately knew I wanted a Decepticon Seal to be the centerpiece of the flag, but I wasn't satisfied with the official purple color. Dark blue is a nice, serious color so I chose that. Once rendered in blue, though, the empty eyes were too hard to see, and also gave a "dead" look. Since Decepticons have red eyes, I lit 'em up with red. Red is also a menacing color when used for eyes (see: TV Tropes, red eyes take warning), and I wanted the flag to let people know that these Decepticons are dangerous.

That left the background color. I first thought of just using the Decepticon Seal and leaving the rest blank, but I wanted a flag-like look and that wouldn't do the job. Using white was out of the question due to its associations (in the USA) with purity, holiness, and the like. While I'm not opposed to those things IRL unless someone's being a self-righteous ass, they certainly are not Decepticon concepts - and, despite the name, the G1 Decepticons were always quite straightforward about what they wanted (usually to steal, by force, all of the oil they could), so even pretending to be good doesn't fit them. They're pirate types, and proud of it.

Black was the clear solution. Its connotations - death, destruction, blotting out, and the color of the scary, menacing night - fit perfectly. (ETA: The fact that movie pirates have black-background flags wasn't a major factor in my choice, though it did come to mind near the end of the design process.) Used with the dark blue Seal with its red eyes, the overall effect gave the impression of Decepticons looming menacingly out of the darkness with malicious intent. A few tweaks were made to the blue to give it just enough contrast, and the flag was complete.

Of course, the IC explanation is a bit different.

Just got 3 things that represented Brittany, Normandy, and Aquitaine, but originally they weren't gonna be shields but just normal flags within a flag, then I found all 3 had the shields and I used them as they seems interesting, will do minor adjustments in future to even out the flag though.

It's basically the war flag of the German Navy during WW2, but the swastika replaced by an eagle, because rules. I chose the Kriegsmarine flag, since it looked more specific to Nazi Germany than a simple random fascist nation.

It's a long story, actually. At first, I tried different designs and showed them to my best friend. He said he didn't like them and proposed a flag that looks similar to Brazil's, with a diamond in the middle. Suddenly, I was struck by an idea and the current Amenrian flag was born.

I wanted to have a special and simple flag at the same time. So I did my research and I found out that purple and orange are the least popular colours on flags. Then I put them in a simple tricolor flag.

I thought the colors looked nice and European. My original flags had people thinking they were African or Caribbean.

I have always liked the Russian double headed eagle and thought what if I combine it with the British lions and then included a pattern similar to those found on the older German flags. Except I move the lion and eagle to the top left and just have vertical and horizontal stripes without the circle.

The flag of Angola. When I first signed up, I didn't really know what I wanted my flag to be. Then I saw Angola's flag. I new nothing about the nation and had never heard of it before, but I fell in love with it and played around with variations on its design until I got what you see today.

Of particular note is the fleur-d'etoile, the device in the bottom-right corner. I haphazardly stuck a fleur-de-lis into a star for another project. Ended up not using it for that other project, but I loved it and so used it as one of Ankuran's most common symbols.

I was looking for some monarchic flags that fit the nation I was making. I liked the flags from EUIV and so I took inspiration from there. The flag of the Kingdom of Yemen, Japanese imperial standard and other flags were the most inspirational.

Was testing out designs for a Nordic cross, and realised that with the Cornish colours it looked good.

I knew I was going to create a matriarchy, and had worked out where in the history of the UK I wanted to split off, and the reasons why.

I then used the Venus symbol and turned the loop into a globe. My original flag, which is now my country's war ensign, was red, white and black to give it an aggressive look.

As I worked further on the history of my country I decided that I wanted the flag to be more toned down, so decided that I liked the colours of the EU flag, so replaced the red with blue, and the black with gold, and kept the white of the original flag.
