P L O T

Riches, fast cars, beautiful women, and the life of an elite one percenter. All of that is available to you, and right in front of you... Provided you can survive this life long enough to get it. As an associate of the Baresi Mafia Family, based in the state of Florida and the entire east coast of the United States, you live a dangerous life that has major rewards ahead should you live long enough to reach them. All of you joined this family for different reasons; as a way to make ends meet, or to repay a debt owed to the mafia, or even for the chance to live a life with plenty of adventure and action. Regardless of your reason for joining, you're here now, and you've been provided your first chance to prove yourself.

One series of heists, deliveries, and other dangerous tasks, all over the world. You will head beyond the borders of the States, to exotic locations such as Shanghai, Paris, Milan, and London. Complete the list of tasks, and you'll be brought into the family as a true Made Man rather than an associate. If you owe any debts, they'll be forgiven, and if it was a better life than you were looking for when you joined, you'll receive it. Of course, that's assuming that you survive to the end. The life of a mafia member is a dangerous one, and it's not hard to end up in prison. Maybe dead. But the prizes are worth the risks, right? Otherwise you wouldn't have signed up for this in the first place.


M E C H A N I C S

Welcome to an RP that I hope to run with a different structure than my usual ones. It will probably be a smaller one that depends on a more tight knit group of characters, instead of a large RP with dozens of characters/players. Like you can judge from the above section, you play as a member of the Baresi Mafia Family, a fictional criminal organization based in the southeastern United States. Well, not a member. An associate. There's more benefits for those who are full members, and if you complete the tasks over the course of the RP, you too can become a full time member.

You and the rest of the associates have been given a task to work together on. Actually, it's a series of tasks, spread across the world. Some are hit jobs, others are heists of high profile items, and a few involve delivering something while being under pressure from the authorities or other criminals. Complete these tasks successfully, and you gain entry into the family. Fail, and you'll be jailed or worse. This means that the RP will have a mission based structure with the players deciding how they want to handle each task. Strategy is very important, and can be the deciding factor between success and failure. Do you want to brute force your way through a heist, or use trickery and social engineering to avoid fights? It's up to you.

Most of your characters will have a lot to lose, and everything to gain. They aren't already rich, or powerful. They're regular people, either acknowledging the risks and picking this profession anyway, or being forced into it somehow. With that being said, you'll also unlock access to better equipment during the course of the RP, as the tasks get harder and the pressure is ramped up dramatically. You'll also have to worry about your face being on the world's wanted list, and as the thread goes on, your group will develop more heat around it.


I N F O R M A T I O N
  • OP decisions are final, and in the case of decisions when the OP isn't around, Co-OPs have final decision power.
  • This is common sense to a lot of you, but DO NOT GODMOD. You cannot control other players' characters without their permission.
  • Your character is not invincible. Bad tactical decisions will result in bad outcomes. This may include being killed off, depending on what you did.
  • Post length isn't the most important thing, but good grammar is expected, as well as formatting that isn't broken. That means using quotation marks correctly, not using a line for every sentence, not writing very long paragraphs with no breaks, and other things like this.
  • Inactivity may result in your character being moved by the thread staff if you are in the way of advancing the plot.
  • Characters should be balanced and shouldn't have many more strengths than weaknesses.
  • Other rules may be enforced at OP discretion in the event that a need arises for them as the thread continues.

The Baresi Mafia Family was founded by Italian immigrants in Florida, as a rival to some of the crime families in cities such as New York and Boston. The organization would be less strict racially than other mafia families up north, and would hire Cubans and others during the 1950s and 60s. Still a relatively young power in the world of crime, the organization would gain infamy through conducting heists and stealing valuable objects such as jewels and artifacts. During the early 2000s, family leader Marco Baresi would step down and enter retirement, appointing his oldest son Alessio Baresi as the new head of the family. Alessio Baresi has been responsible for running the family since 2004, and was the one to begin the initiative to put the family back on the map and bring in talented new recruits.
Made Man: In the American Mafia, a made man is a fully initiated member of the Mafia. To become "made", an associate first has to be sponsored by another made man. An inductee will be required to take the oath of Omertà, the mafia code of silence. After the induction ceremony the associate becomes a "made man", and holds the rank of soldier (Italian: soldato) in the Mafia hierarchy. Other common names for members include "man of honor" (Italian: uomo d'onore), "one of us", "friend of ours", "good fella", and "wiseguy".
Mafia: The term Mafia was originally used in Italy by the media and law enforcement to describe criminal groups in Sicily. The origins of the term are debatable though most agree the term is derived from the word "Ma'afir" a term rooted in Arabic and meaning 'shelter' or 'place of refuge'. Like the Sicilian Mafia, the American Mafia did not use the term "Mafia" to describe itself. Neither group has a formal name and instead used the term cosa nostra (Italian for our thing) when referring to themselves. When Italian immigrants started forming organized crime groups in the United States, the American press borrowed the term Mafia from Italy and it became the predominant name used by law enforcement and the public.

Personality: Patrikas off work is care free, enjoys to have a good time and drinks to keep his mind off his past deeds. Just because he kills people doesn't mean he lacks a conscience. He's yet to turn a co tract down yet, no matter how ugly it could be. His strong drive and determination ensures he completes a mission completely or dies first, not wanting to leave any loose ends. At the same time, people shouldn't misplace his conscience for weakness as he's still willing to do anything to get a job done.
Short Biography:
Patrikas was born in Detroit Michigan to two Russian born parents. His father, a member within the Russian mob in America and iverseas, his mother, the sister of an FSB agent. Like most Russian Mafias the one Patrikas was born into had ties to the Russian FSB, the marriage between his parents meant to tie it more directly into the Government and agency ensuring greater protection and resources.

Patrikas would be raised and groomed to be his father's successor often helping on jobs from the ages of 12 to 13. By 15 he had to take his first life and would be contracted continually until 18 when he'd have a falling out with his parents. Forced to the slums of Detroit and devoid of contacts he'd begin doing odd jobs on the u derground market, before doing a mission for the Baresi family a few months later. Ever since, he's started trying to grow closer to this family, despite never being able to become a made man an associate would be what he'd need to start working his way up on the criminal networks before gaining enough notoriety to start his own crew.

She is an expert climber as a result of her continued fascination with urban exploration and parkour. She is a decent fighter, though mainly due to her tenacity and wide breadth of experience rather than innate strength or style of fighting. Due to her upbringing, she has plenty of experience in socialite circles and still keeps contact with some of them, and is a gifted charmer.
Flaws: Elisabeth is a adrenaline junkie to the extreme: if it has the chance of killing her, she's all-too eager to meet it head on. If the stakes can be increased, she will increase them: if the amp goes to eleven, she'll crank it to twenty. Challenges to her ego are met headfirst with opposition, and describing her as "difficult to work with" is an understatement. Due to her previous life as a wealthy socialite, she is also recognizable to certain sorts of people, particularly those interested in tabloid news or the lives of the rich and famous. As a result of her lifestyle, she is banned from entering a few countries, including Russia, and is wanted by a few criminal organizations, most notably the Bratva, for cheating in a casino. She's a hopeless shot with most any gun, preferring to "spray-and-pray" than actually take the time to aim.

PERSONAL
Personality: To describe Elisabeth as "high energy" would be criminally underwhelming: she rarely sits down, even when alone, and can be found pacing at night more often than sleeping, often planning the next big adventure. She rarely has time to sit down and think, and she likes it that way: time wasted in thought is time that could have been spent getting high off of life. After a long life of fun, she's often bored with slow, monotonous work, and will try to spice things up with challenges she gives herself or limitations she invents to increase the difficulty. If something isn't to her taste, she lets that something know, usually with expletives, and if she's sufficiently done with a situation she has no qualms with abandoning it entirely. She's known as "Bet" to friends due to the phrase that usually follows someone challenging her skills: "Wanna bet?"
Short Biography: Elisabeth was born to two well-to-do parents in the finance world, Marcus and Joy Wortham, who made their millions in some inexplicable way that Elisabeth never cared to learn. To her, money was never an issue, and even when it was, she never quite cared for it: it was always just a means to an end, and so long as she had it, she cared more about those ends than anything else. As a child, her parents were always too busy to care for her or grant her the attention she needed, at least, they didn't unless she was in trouble for something, whether it be hanging from their chandelier or fighting with the heiress play-date. To fill her time and let her expend her excess energy, her parents allowed her free reign to design her own schedule, which, aside from schooling, she filled with anything from football to driving lessons, fencing to acrobatics.

As time passed, these activities proved too boring for the girl, who sought out more and more from life than it was giving her. At eighteen, she demanded that she be sent to California for college, where she proceeded to skip every class she could to explore the country or take a trip to anywhere her school wasn't. With limitless imagination, she refused to be tied down, and through her crafty ways avoided punishment long enough to earn herself a degree in physical education - bought, most likely, seeing as she rarely attended class.

Her world experienced a momentary hiccup on its upward trajectory on the day of her graduation: her parents flew out from New York, the first time they would see their daughter in years, only to die horribly in a plane crash that claimed both their lives. They left their small fortune to Elisabeth, who, despite the momentary sadness at the news of their deaths, was overjoyed to be free to do as she pleased for the rest of her life, seeing that fortune as large enough to finance her adventures for years to come.

And she was right. For a time, she traveled the world, seeing everything it had to offer from Paris to Beijing. She saw every casino, every race track, every fighting ring she could in the hope that the next would be something to keep her attention, and yet, was found wanting: nothing could hold her down, and as soon as she became tired with one thing, she was off on a flight to the next country. Eventually, as the bills wracked up, she found herself busing between cities, and then driving, and then hitchhiking as the funds slowly but inevitably ran out. She reached her last few dollars in Monaco, betting at a high-stakes table in a last ditch effort to recoup her losses.

Left destitute, she came to the realization that for her life to continue, she would need funds: with no practical skills and the few friends she kept unwilling to give her any more handouts, she turned to the only life left: a life of crime.

Both accepted. We'll try to start this thing off with a smaller scale. Maybe a 5 person mission. I'll see about what the actual size of the RP ends up being, depends on how many more players show up and who remains active over time.

Yep. Kind of referenced that in the OP and gave the Baresi family a history of recruiting Cubans early on, adding some background to non Italians being in the RP.

Flaws: Hector's untrusting and intimidating demeanor has hindered his ability to communicate with people he truly doesn't know. In addition, his vindictiveness and stubbornness has burned many bridges to contacts he once had, leaving him to rely on only the Baresi Family and himself as his primary resources.

PERSONAL
Personality: Hector is a relatively opinionated, yet introverted man. He is generally untrusting of those he doesn't know, as a result of a falling out with his father, but is extremely loyal to those who are able to get past his exterior personality. Hector also has a tendency to be stubborn in his ways as a result of his upbringing, and never forgets even the smallest perceived slight against his character. Despite this, Hector is willing to forgive others for their offenses if true repentance and proper respect is shown.
Biography:
Hector Borjas was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as the son of Cuban immigrants. Hectors parents immigrated to the US via the Mariel Boatlifts to seek asylum from supposed persecution under the Castro regime. Though the history of Hector's mother is somewhat of an enigma, Hector's father, Antonio Borjas, claimed to immigration authorities that he was a "political prisoner" and a former veteran of the Cuban army before his escape to the US. The authorities were initially believed his story, until they discovered that Antonio possessed a tattoo which marked his criminal activities in Cuban prison. Antonio and his pregnant wife, as a result, did not receive a green card and were forced to live in a tent-based refugee camp called "Camp Hope". Several months after their arrival at Camp Hope, Hector's brother Pablo was born and delivered in a medical tent sometime in August.

The birth of Pablo gave confidence and a new sense of responsibility to his father, who escaped from Camp hope with his family and began to work illegally as a dishwasher in an Italian restaurant. His boss, an associate of the Baresi crime family, had grown close to Antonio and eventually offered him a legal green card if he were participate in a hit against a rival. Antonio obliged and killed the rival in cold blood to send a message. After attaining his green card, Antonio continued to do hits for the Baresi Family and made quite a name for himself while also working on attaining full American citizenship. Once things became stable, Antonio and his wife opted to have another child whom they named Hector.

Shortly after his birth, Hector's mother and brother left the picture for unknown reasons. His father struggled to take care of him while also working for the mafia, which oftentimes left Hector to solely fend for himself throughout his childhood. Though in the times where someone was present, whether it was Antonio or a close associate of the family, Hector was constantly instilled with the values of loyalty, respect, and the importance of sticking up for yourself.

While initially struggling in the early stages of elementary school due to bullying, this was remedied quickly after a few bloodied noses as per the advice of his father one night after being intimidated for lunch money. When Hector was in school, he excelled greatly in class and even became a member of the Honor Society in middle school and high school. Hector's future was bright, with visions of greatness and the potential for a college scholarship, which filled Antonio Borjas with nothing but pride for his son's academic accomplishments. Things however began to take a turn for the worse, when Hector eventually discovered that his mother and brother were killed in retaliation for his father's actions. Hector fell into a depression and grew more and more detached from his father. His grades fell, prompting an expulsion from the honor society a year before graduation.

Hector attended graduation with a good GPA, but had forfeited his scholarships. After the ceremony had concluded and Hector returned home, he accosted his father and engaged in a heated fight over the death of his family members he had never known. The conflict escalated to the point where Hector physically pushed his father, who instinctively retaliated by choking his son into the brink of consciousness. Antonio finally recognized what he was doing, letting his son go from his grasp, and pleaded for forgiveness. Hector tearfully ran out into the damp Floridian night, vowed to never follow in the path of his old man, and was never seen by his father again.

Two days after the confrontation, Hector visited a military recruiting office and signed away his life to the United States Marine Corps for a minimum of four to eight years. Hector both enjoyed and loathed his incredibly short yet unbearably long time in service. He experienced many exciting locales such as Twentynine Palms, which clearly overshadowed his two deployments to Iraq. As his time in the Corps eventually reached a crossroads between reenlistment or getting out, Hector decided to visit his father and make amends. When he reached home in Fort Lauderdale, however, Hector discovered that his father had been killed by another hitman days prior to his arrival. Hector buried his father, then decided to abstain from reenlisting.

The next two years of Hector's life after discharge was dedicated to searching for those who were responsible for his father's death. Upon discovery of his father's killer, Hector forced the young man to confess to his crimes at gunpoint. The kid turned out to be a wannabe gangbanger poser, who wasted the old hardened criminal for bragging points with his friends. Hector pulled the trigger on him for a different reason, not because he killed his father, but because the kid lacked true repentance for his deed and had no respect for himself or the man about to put a bullet through his head. Being a man of honor, Hector promptly threw the corpse into the swamp for the gators to find.

Though the police never did find out what Hector had done, the Baresi Crime Family certainly took notice. Hector was eventually contacted by a friend of his father, who offered him a job in the future, provided he was interested. Hector accepted the offer and started off small, doing small favors for the Baresi family to prove his worth, while staying relatively under the radar. Hector's chance to actually prove himself, however, arrived two years later when he was assigned to work with a crew of associates, all of whom have the potential to become Men of Honor.

Tom is a hard working, working class, blue-collar Irishman and is proud of it. He's always hard-working and dedicated to what he does, whether that be boxing or plundering jewels. He doesn't need much, doesn't ask for much, except for a good time and an amazing thrill. As you can see, he considers his pride and dignity to be the things most important to him, and doesn't like to accept help, or be shamed. Basically, he's a proud, patriotic, Irish lad who will always give you 110% effort. Especially the patriotic part, as he will do anything for his country.

Short Biography:
Tom Hall was born in the town of Cork, Ireland, to two blue-collar working class parents. His mum and dad hadn't gone to college, and worked in the post office and construction respectively. They didn't have much, but to them, they were too proud to be poor.

However, things were slightly rough in the Hall household, as his dad was an alcoholic who often came home work with a temper, which he took out on his wife. While it was never taken out on Tom, he suffered verbal abuse at the hands of his father. The little money they did have was usually spent on drinks at the pub. Eventually, Tom's mum had had enough, and left her mess of a husband and took Tom with her to Dublin.

Tom and his mum were even poorer than before, with only one source of income flowing in. Tom took to doing part-time jobs while attending school, made even more difficult by the fact that he was a poor student. Things seemed hopeless for Tom, until high school, where one particular teacher spotted his ability for boxing. Tom started to take private, after-school lessons with this teacher, refining his boxing technique and skill. Turns out, he had a knack for it, and soon started winning both formal boxing competitions and street fights, earning more money than he was doing part-time jobs.

Soon, he became one of the top young lightweight fighters in Dublin, winning several championships and even competing in provincial championships. Soon, he dropped out of high school to focus on boxing as well as opening a boxing academy in Dublin. However, things changed for Tom when he drove home from the bar drunk and ended up crashing his car, causing injuries to his back and neck. After recovery from the accident, which involved herniated discs, he ended up with chronic back pain as well as neck injuries, which forced him to retire.

Eventually, Tom, with no high school education and no source of income, began to fall back into his life of poverty, with no sign of stopping. Until he heard about the Baresi mafia. Despite not knowing what the hell a mafia was, he decided to join as he needed the money desperately.

Both accepted. I'm going to wait for a couple of more people to app, since we have a good amount of tags, and get my own application up before we begin the IC. To give you something to think about, though, I'll reveal how we're starting. Each of you will receive a piece of paper with an address and instructions to destroy it after memorizing it. When you arrive at this address, the details of the opening mission will be explained, and you'll have some time to plan also.
