Now, with public backing, the militarily supported and revived Freethinker Party (also known as the Metaxas Party) gained control and established a full military junta in the following year. Bringing back the Drachma, stabilizing the debt and inflation, and uniting with the Greeks in Cyprus were all met goals by the military Junta. And finally, in 2028, the Metaxas party announced it would loosen its grip on the country and fulfill the final goal the party was elected to do: bring back the royal family as a symbol of national unity. Hence, the current royal family, led by the young Queen Maria I of the Hellenic State and Denmark, after the death of her father, now is the State Head. The military Junta now has loosened its grip and allowed a small amount of democracy into the nation as the economy churns back into an upward trend, allowing local councils for the provinces to be elected openly by the respective populations. What will come next for the new State, is yet to be determined.
