For over a 1,000 years A.U.M has proudly welcomed new wizards and witches, and we are proud of you to be apart of this wonderful tradition.As a member of the Class of 2022, you will join a dynamic community of mages in a place of endless magical adventure.A.U.M offers an unparallel setting for the next chapter in your life.

The competition for admission was particularly rigorous this year as our apprentice class of 2,400 was carefully selected by over 25,000 applicants from over a dozen different dimensions! We were impressed by your achievements in magic, and believe in your potential for continued success.Rather your goal is mastering witchcraft, wizardry, restoration, enchantment, divination and much much more, it is our goal to help you achieve it!

The term begins in the Fall Equinox (That's for you earthlings!).The ship leaves the transdimensional station at precisely 12:00 pm so come on time unless you plan on arriving by broom or carpet.

Attached to this letter are the university handbook, map, and a medallion so you won't be incinerated by the school dragon (just kidding!) Also attached are your room numbers and a scholarship covering tuition!

The Story

Welcome! This is a game about a bunch of apprentices (Freshmen) attending a university of magic.All students will major in a school of magic, both to advance the knowledge of magic and to find a magical career after your session as a student is complete.You'll be involved in a lot of adventuring, dueling, and shenanigans of all sorts, but remember this is a university, rather you skip classes, do projects, etc. or not is entirely on you as this is a sandbox, and anything goes (within reason).

Like I said you can do whatever you want, exploring the forbidden underground, romancing, occultist shiz anything goes. The tools to craft your own story tale are ultimately in your hands.There will be a central story arc going on though rather you join or not is entirely up to you but it will have powerful ramifications for the school.

Lore

The Arcane University was founded millennia ago when witches and wizards of all species across the Multiverse converged to find a school to further the cause and advancement of magic. You can see this diversity in all the halls of this ancient school from the run of the mill humans to High Elves, Dark Elves, Drow, the odd Orc and dwarf and even stranger alien species such as beings made of pure energy, and the rock-based Yarnek.

The School is famed for its advanced magical studies and has given way to many famous and powerful wizards and witches throughout its history.Yet it's reputation is a bit stained, over hundred years ago the powerful and evil Lich Lord Moloch a former student of the College of Necromancy once nearly destroyed the University and plunged the Multiverse into chaos.Fortunately, he was defeated but at a great cost, the College of Necromancy was abolished, and after the school recovered it seemed the threat was gone for good.Still, some believe the followers of Moloch are still out there scheming and committing all sorts of evils.

A cute and magical college town,where one can shop,play, and get into all sorts of mischief.Nearby is the Enchanted Forest, and Forgotten Mines, where one can forage for sorts of supplies for their adventuring.Daria was founded eons ago around the time the University was founded.Due to its status of hosting one of the most prestigious institutions of magic in the known cosmos, many empires have tried and failed to conquer the town due to all the mages who call this land home.

Mechanics
While this is a free-form roleplay I'll still have some simple mechanics to keeps things reasonable,there are three skills knowledge,dueling and artifice and you have 30 points to divy up the skills.Your character will also start with 200 coin that he/she can use to shop with.

Health:
You start with 50 points in health.Once your health reaches 0 Death whisks you away and your gone,unless a necromancer is able to revive you.Without your wand you do about 3 points of physical damage .Health can be replenished by eating,sleeping,or drinking a potion.You replenish your health every time you post and you have to post your health at all times.

Magicka
All wizards and witches start with 50 Magicka which is their pool to cast spells from.Replenished by sleeping,and drinking potions.Being near your familar also speeds up the rate of recovery.

Damage:
Damage is proportional to the wand you wield, and your skill in dueling.All students start with a apprentince wand which gives no bonus while teachers start with an adept wand to signify their higher starting level.

1-5: No buff.

5-9: +1 to damage.

10-14: +2 to damage.

15-20: +3 to damage.

Dueling has a sport
Dueling is when two or more mages compete in order to knock the other mage out.The mages start in a dueling circle, with the goal of knocking the opponent out or pushing the opponent outside the circle.Only wands are allowed, no physical weapons.All spells that are not forbidden are allowed in the match, as well as potions and enchantments to enhance the mages' ability.

A dice roll shall determine the success of your spell with buffers for enchantments and potions

You start with a Dueling HP of 30 if it reaches 0 you lose.

Dueling to the Death
Deathmatches where forbidden centuries ago by the Ministry of Magic but that hasn't stopped mages from duking it out to end.Basically works the same way except your fighting to the death.

A dice roll shall determine the success of your spell with buffers for enchantments and potions

You start with regular HP of 50 whoever reaches 0 dies.

Traits-

Your character will start with 2 traits of your choosing to help define him/her.Has the roleplay progresses and you'll be able to gain secret traits through, committing certain actions quests, and exploring.

Necromancy (Secret):The necromantic arts are strictly forbidden, though rumors abound that a dark and evil society operates in the school, that is up to all sorts of nefarious and diabolical schemes.Of course, the school adamntly denies this but that hasn't stop the spread of conspiracy regarding the derelict ruins hidden beneath the school,and of nightmarish things that happen in the dark.

Sneaky: You're good at stealing and hiding especially in the dark.Good with illusion magic and swiftness.You're able to carry more and get away more than the average mage.

Swift: You're agile and quick and can dodge those spells better than most.

Attractive: Whoa mamma your one fine thang. Your good looks make it easier for others to fall for you and to get them to do what you want.You may even get away with things the normies couldn't even dream of.

Strong:Way stronger then your squishier peers who look at you with fear when you walk by.+5 to health and physical damage raised to 10.

Charismatic: Your very likable and always seem to know what to say.You have a higher chance of getting away with things and doing things your way

Expert Broom/Carpet Rider: Start with a free broomstick, or carpet .You're also an exceptional rider and can perform riding stunts for tips, or participate in the Tri-Wizard Races.

Alchemist: You're a natural at potion-making and can concoct all sorts of crazy potions from the start.You're less likely to have your brew explode in your face, or blow up the school.

Arcane Blessed: You have more magic flowing in your veins then the average mage, start with +5 to knowledge and +10 to Magicka

Wealthy: You where born with a silver spoon in your mouth, and had your entire education paid for by mommy and daddy, unlike other mages who either put themselves in debt or worked hard to attend this school.Start with 500 coins instead of 200.

Deficiencies (Optional)

-Has the name implies gives a negative trait that'll impair your character in some way.But it also gives them a bonus! So it sort of evens out.Do be warned that some of these deficiencies will earn the ire of most of the NPCs of this world.

Fugly: Oh god no, you are one ugly looking mage you know that? People look down on you due to your unattractiveness (Incompatible with Attractive)

Weak: You are weak individual even for a witch/wizard, and you can barely pick up your own wand, and you don't have the strongest immune system -5 Health,-5 Physical damage (incompatible with strong)

Awkward: Your not the best conversationist you have a hard time getting people to agree with you, and a hard time making friends (Incompatible with Charismatic)

Sluggish: Your very slow and more likely to be hit by spells.(Incompatible with Swift)

Squib In this world being a squib just means you were born with less Magicka,-10.Still, other witches and wizards look down on squibs and tend to discriminate. (Incompatible with Arcane Blessed)

Poor Felt left out that squibs where the only ones who dealt with prejudice? Will no need to fear!Having jack nothing is here! Yes, you come from a very poor family. Fortunately, the school paid for your education. Unfortunately, that hasn't stopped other mages from looking at you with disdain and extreme prejudice.Start with 0 Coin (Incompatible with Wealthy)

Shopping:Jorthars Magical Shop of Whimsy is a place where witches and wizards can buy and sell. Items that impart some type of advantage or helps make your character stronger can Only be brought in the store at the start of the game. This includes wands, potions, enchanted clothing, crafting materials etc.Deduct the item amount from the starting amount of coin which is 200, or 500 if you're wealthy.

Has the game progresses more items will be added, or you can ask Jorthar himself for a specific product you are seeking.

Enchanted Robes: Master crafted and tailor-made by Fae Corporate, these spiffy robes, enhances the aspiring mages abilities.Increases Magicka by 10 -Cost- 100 Coin

Butterbeer: Restores 5 health. 18 or older only, this being a university yes you can drink alcohol.Results may vary but usually leads to drunkness -Cost- 10 Coin

Fishing Rod: A Good nonmagical way to make money and get food.-Cost- 10 Coin

Pickaxe An excellent way to mine for minerals for crafting or augmenting a wand -Cost- 10 Coin

Chop Axe Allows one to chop the wood from Enchanted Forest necessary to craft a wand. -Cost- 10 Coin

Chocolate Toad:Yummy treat. Restores +2 health -Cost- 10

Apprentice Wand: For the typical chump wizard/witch or otherwise beginners -Cost- 50 Coin

All mages must major in a field relevant to the magic career, they will get after their education.It is absolutely paramount that you study and dedicate yourself to your school or else you'll fail and have to drop out.

For the passionate and brash, conjuration is one of the most powerful and destructive schools of magic.Casting fireballs, lighting, and ice are natural for a novice, but true understanding and mastery of conjuration comes from years of studying and dedication. This is the school if you want to control the elements and destroy all those who oppose you.


A college designed for those who lust for more pure combat rather than supplementary spells like in other colleges, the college believes in the ying and yang style system,
teaching mainly light magic which is less straining but somewhat less powerful than dark magic, which drains the user's body fast in exchange for fast and swift destruction of the enemy.

Most spells taught generally include repulsion of dark magic, combative light magic and neutral spells that do not rely on light or darkness, but rather a mix of both to deal damage. This school of magic is said to be very intensive due to it's courses and the intensity of the training, despite this dark magic has been prohibited in use of training and has been prohibited in teachings. This is primarily due to how difficult it is for one to control the craving for such power, and overuse will either severely scar or kill them. Most spells are not carved in and written out exactly, as such anyone with the same level of skills and knowledge could both know different spells as spells are borrowed in from other colleges and given a twist using light and dark magic



Mysticism or the mysterious ways is about unlocking the mysteries of the Multiverse.Telekinesis, defense, and reality-bending are all domains within this school.It can also be used to tell whats about to happen and lying behind the corner for the wandering adventurer.If researching and learning the unknowns of reality are your thing then this is your school


Involves manipulating the mind, and senses, of your subject.Things are rarely as they seem in the cosmos.Even in the university there are entire sections of the school hidden in plain sight, secrets abound and that's how illusionists prefer it.If your talents lie in lying to those around you then this is your school


Casters who take this school are able to tear apart the fabric of reality and summon all sorts of beasts, weapons, and objects from different planes of reality.Casters are also able to open gateways and travel through them, but it is very difficult to do and many foolhardy mages have lost themselves while exploring the multiverse.


Restoration is probably one of the most misunderstood of all schools.It involves not only healing magic, but ward magic has well.It is at odds with necromancy and restorative spells can summon spirits of life, to aid the caster while banishing ghouls, zombies, vampire and other undead.


Is the art of combining magical ingredients to craft potions and poisons.Alchemy can be utilized to achieve all types of wonderful creations such has turning iron into gold or changing the physiology and makeup of an individual.


An ancient and arcane form of crafting to add buffs to weapons, jewelry, and armor.

Ah yes what is a mage without his or her spellbook! These mystical grimoires are infused with powerful magicks that contains all the known spells a mage knows. An apprentice starts with 5 spells, a professor 10. It is a mages duty to constantly learn more spells by training, studying, and learning from their teachers but it takes time and dedication.There are also secret spells that can be acquired by joining certain cults or exploring the world.


All the spells are divided into different schools.The schools you're dedicated to will only cost half MP, signifying your specialization.Also, there will be a simple d8 roll that will determine rather a spell is successful or not.Apprentices are more likely fail at casting spells, while teachers will get a bonus.

Conjuration
Flames: Shoots a fire arc from your wand.Deals 5 damage per hit.MP Cost -3

Iceblast: Freeze your foe to death.Deals 5 damage per hit.MP Cost -3

Fireblast: Shoot a wave of fire at your enemy.Deals 10 damage per hit.MP Cost -8

Icespear: Cast a spear of ice at your enemy.Deals 8 damage per hit.MP cost -6

Lightning bolt: Shoot a bolt of lighting at your enemy.Deals 12 damage per hit.MP Cost -10

Tempest (Journeyman): Summons a gust of wind that knocks an opponent down for 14 damage.MP Cost -12

Blizzard (Adept): Summons a powerful storm of ice and snow at the opponent 50% chance to freeze solid.Deals 22 damage.Cost -20 MP

Firestorm (Adept): Summons a powerful storm of fire that burns an opponent for 20 damage while doing passive burning damage of -1.Cost - 18 MP

Thunderstorm (Adept): Summons a powerful storm of lighting and rain, for 30 damage while draining a mage Magicka passively by -1. -28 MP

Torchlight: Cast a ball light that lights up a dark room and can temporarily blind opponents: MP Cost -1

Transmutation: Can transform silver into gold.MP Cost -15

Teleportation (Journeyman): Allows a caster to teleport a place they've been before.MP cost -5

Transform (Adept): You have the ability to transform into a beast of your choice, very difficult to master.MP Cost -20

Ironflesh (Adept): Makes your skin has hard has iron.Defense raised by 15 MP Cost -12

Telekinetic Wave(Adept): Sends a powerful telekinetic wave doing 20 damage. MP Cost -18

Illusion

Muffle: Move more quietly for 5 posts.MP Cost -5

Fear: Causes an enemy to flee for a short moment.MP Cost -15

Courage: Makes a person more confident, increasing their combat by +5.MP Cost -10

Calm: Puts a person in a short trance, allowing you to damage them more.MP Cost -10

Charm: Tricks a person into thinking your actually a charming individual.MP Cost -10

False Reality (Journeyman): Allows caster to manipulate surroundings creating a false reality. MP Cost -10

Create Afterimage(Journeyman): Manipulate light to create a false image of yourself.Very useful for thieving and classes.MP Cost -12

Hysteria (Adept): Causes an entire group of enemies to erupt in mass hysteria, for a moment causing them to fight each other.MP Cost -40

Change Appearance(Adept): Can transform your appearance for a duration of time.Those with high knowledge can see through the mirage.MP Cost -15

Invisibility(Adept): You can turn invisible for a short amount of time. So long as you do not receive damage in this state you will remain invisible. MP Cost - 40.

Healing Touch: Restores 10 Health.MP Cost -8

Ward: Creates field that reflects spells.Once Caster is hit with a spell, must summon again.MP cost -10

Sunfire: Summons ball of light that repels undead.MP Cost -10

Vampires Bane: Causes 10 points of damage to undead.MP Cost -12

Blessing of Fortitude (Journeyman): Temporarily makes user faster, and stronger,+5 Health.MP Cost -8

Grand Healing (Adept): Restores 30 points of health to the entire party.MP Cost -32

Solar Flash (Adept): Summons powerful blast of light and energy which does 15 damage to all undead with vicinity, and heals any negative alignments to caster and allies.MP Cost -40

Greater Ward (Adept): Summons powerful forcefield that can repel 4 spells before having to cast again. MP Cost -20

Summon blade: Summons a arcane sword that deals 10 damage.MP Cost -8

Summon random object: Pull into the ether and summon an object from the unknown.Results may vary. MP Cost -5

Summon Fire Spirit: Summons a fire spirit from the infernal plane that does 5 damage. MP Cost -3

Summon Bow and Arrow: Bow and Arrow that does 12 damage.MP Cost -10

Summon Spirit Animal: Summons Spirit animal of your choice that does 8 damage.MP Cost -6

Summon Object (Journeyman): Similar to summon random object but more advanced, Caster can summon object that they desire but the more valuable and complex the object the more likely it is to fail.Example chances of summoning a simple apple are likely to succeed while summoning high-level armor are almost always guaranteed to fail.MP cost -40


Summon Golem (Adept): Summons an ice, lighting or fire golem, of your choice to smash your enemies.Golem lasts 1 day.MP Cost -30

Summon Demon (Adept): Summons a powerful demon from the infernal realm. Requires 6 filled Soul Gems and pentagram for proper binding, otherwise, the demon turns on you.Lasts 1 day MP Cost -25

Summon a Griffin (Adept): Summons a mighty griffin to fight by your side, can also use as a temporary mount.Lasts 1 day. MP Cost -20
Light blast: Release a beam of light from your wand, deals 7 damage. MP Cost 4

Combat Arts
Barrier of light: Repels all dark based attacks, lasts for only one spell. MP cost 5

Purification: Heals dark magic injuries for 10 health. MP cost 9

Light of hope: Heals all within an area for 5 health and gives ally immunity to one dark spell. MP cost 8

Light shield (Journeyman): Raises up a shield of light that can withstand 3 regular spells and 5 dark spells. MP cost 15

Rays of hope (Adept): Bring down holy light against your enemies, deals 30 damage and gives all allies immunity against one dark spell. MP Cost 30

Final light (Adept): Cleanses all allies of dark spell ailments, and heals them for 10 health while giving them immunity against one dark spell. MP Cost 27

Note that light and dark each give a +3 damage when dealing with each other. Dark magic not included since it is technically barred due to how dangerous it is.

The classes that teachers teach are not written in stone.A professor has complete liberty to teach the subject however they like, and the University encourages a hands-on approach to learning and plenty of field trips.

Sure, you can do that, sports could be Tri-Wizard Racing, Dueling, etc or you can come up with your own

Hey guys this is my first rp so feel free to dole out advise to fix stupid mistakes or just to improve the gameplay.

Also, edited the OP and changed the starting age for students to 18 and now you start with 2 traits!

I might add deficiencies that allows a bonus trait....

Her mother came from a well-known and renowned magical family and was the eldest of three daughters, she's now an assistant clerk and sometimes tutors children in enchantment. As an only child, she had the undivided attention of her parents which she greatly appreciated, but sometimes felt lonely because she never really had a brother or a sister.

    From her earliest days, Taryn knew she wanted to be a great wizard. And she was especially gifted in pyromancy, so she focused her skills on that. She ended up burning parts of the house on more than one occasion because the little firebug decided to get carried away and such. And as is typical of young mages, her powers started to get stronger and stronger with each passing day. Despite all the training her parents gave her, she needed to go to actual school in order to hone her skills. And as such, she was sent to the Arcane University when she came of age. She's a bit nervous as this is her first time away from home, but she's also excited.

However his childhood was often spent moving around from place to place, especially tropical places. Places that most children didn't really go to, as his parents got contracts to hunt down and bring in monsters both magical and otherwise. And as a child, it often hurt when he made friends with the other kids just to have to go away and in most cases never ended up seeing them again. So the young boy became withdrawn, it became difficult for him to open up to new people as he wanted to spare himself the pain of losing them. And so it became harder for him to make new friends as many thought him aloof, however he had his brother and his books and with that he could mostly content himself. But his childhood fostered a deep sense of loneliness and uncertainty that he tries to hide from other people.

    Artur devoted himself to the study of magic from an early age and became a master wizard, which was quite surprising to his non-magical hunter parents. He didn't care much for hunting and weapons of war, he was a scholar at heart and wasn't ashamed of it. His parents were quite disappointed that their son didn't want to join the family business, but eventually they came around and accepted what made him happy. His brother Moises however always supported him, and as such the two have a very strong bond. He went into the Ministry as an adult and was eventually promoted to secretary. At a party, he met the witch Eliza Morgenstern, a society beauty and the daughter of a very prominent mage family. The shy, withdrawn young wizard was smitten immediately, but was hesitant about approaching her. As he himself was known for his scholarly pursuits but his family wasn't rich by any means. The vivacious, witty and outgoing Eliza took the initiative and approached him, and they danced the whole night. They started courting soon afterward, and despite the misgivings of her parents in the beginning the two married and had a daughter named Taryn, who resembled her father in looks but her mother in personality. Eventually, Artur was accepted for the post of Professor of Conjuration at his old university, as he felt he could be more useful for their world in that position than as a desk clerk.

    Accepted but you'll have to make some edits.Can you specify how many potions you have and the type?Also, a broom costs 300 coins so make sure to deduct that from your starting funds

    Guys I should've specify this but your starting amount of coins determines what you can and cannot get from the store.
