Barunia 0 7 3 0 10
Sorry about that, me missing the gab on the game between Cendolia and Abanhfleft, but like I said before, the Wi-Fi connection to some of the places where I've been aren't exactly as reliable as the one we have here in Abanhfleft, and that's saying something as Abanhfleft has one of the slowest Internet speeds in the whole of the multiverse. To think that there are more nations slower than us when it comes to Internet is truly a wonder of modern technology. Even Pridnestrovia has faster Internet than we, Abanhfleft. Does that not make sense or what? I'll tell you what, though, you all didn't miss much. Both games weren't high scoring affairs so covering them wouldn't take too much of my time. So here goes.
First up is Cendolia versus Abanhfleft. The last game between these two teams was a bit of a hum-drum affair with Abanhfleft eventually triumphing over the visitors 10-3. Well, guess what? We won against the same team by the same scoreline and with the same scorers and almost the same statistics as well. What? I told you it was going to be quite the boring match report. Nothing happened in the first quarter. We scored a 40-yard field goal courtesy of Cleveland Hyneman. Cendolia managed to tie the game in the third quarter with a 32-yard field goal of their own before Saddam Hussain finally managed to score what would eventually be the game-winning touchdown deep in the fourth quarter. Like I told you, boring, simple, and you wouldn't have missed a thing had you watched only the first game between these two teams.
But Abanhfleft versus Barunia, ah, now that's another story entirely. The last time we met, we trounced them in front of their own fans, and we also shut them out for an eventual 36-0 score. That was definitely exciting, wasn't it? Well, I can tell you that the latest match between these two sides, while it was definitely exciting as well, the outcome isn't the same. Where do I start with the differences? Well, for one thing, even though Abanhfleft won the toss and chose to receive, we were only able to go as far as 45 yards away before we were forced to go for the free kick, which Cleveland Hyneman managed to score, but still, it's a far cry from the 8 points we scored in the first quarter of the reverse fixture. Nothing else happened in the first quarter except for a Barunian sack on Harry Aumann for a loss of eight yards on 3rd and 5. Barunia then turned the tables on us in the second quarter with a solid drive that ended with Keno D'Cunha handing the ball off to Sam Green for an easy rushing touchdown, thus making sure that the Sea Cows wouldn't be shut out of the contest this time.
Our misery was only compounded in the third quarter as Barunia managed to piece together another solid drive, although Yaropolk Feofiliyev managed to make a rare sack in this twilight of his career to force the Barunians to a 49-yard field goal, which they made. But they managed to keep us quiet right until the last four minutes of the fourth quarter when Harry Aumann finally managed to piece together another good drive, and this time he made it count by finding Denis Nguyen in space for a 30-yard passing touchdown and the tie game. And since the new tournament format that host Banija introduced allowed for tie games in the group stage, this game ended in a 10-10 tie between the two sides. I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed, though. We beat Barunia before. We could have and should have beaten them again. But they managed to outplay us, at least in the first three quarters, and we were playing catch up with them after that. We did good to tie the game, but as a matter of fact, Barunia could have and probably should have won the game. But we forced our way back into it, so it should set us up good for that last match against the United States of Devonta. Remember how our last match against them made our possible qualification out of the group a little bit more difficult. Well, following this draw against Barunia, we secured our ticket to the knockout stage right in Banija, and the final game against Devonta will be to determine who wins the group and who finishes second. I really hope it will be us so that we get a better draw in the knockouts. Let's hope for the best and prepare for the worst, people. This is going to be a very interesting journey.
