Anyone can be President! Alternate US Presidential Election

Postby Arlenton » Wed Dec 27, 2017 8:01 pm

NO LONGER ACCEPTING NEW CANDIDATES
Results begin coming in 7:00 PM Eastern Standard Time tonight.
TG me if you want to be notified next time I do this.

Create a candidate that will run for President of the United States. There is no two party system or any parties at all, so all candidates start on equal footing and their success depends on their appeal to certain demographics. Also there is no 270 electoral vote requirement, the candidate with the most electoral votes wins.

Your goal is to appeal to a broad variety of demographics and create a winning coalition... Or double down on motivating your base to overcome everyone else. Candidates can be as mainstream or as fringe as you want them to. Make a right wing populist whipping up nationalism, or a leftist activist rallying hippies, or a sensible centrist or whatever you want.

All you need to do is submit a candidate and wait for the results. I will take all accepted candidates and use their descriptions and positions to determine who gets what votes.

For example, a candidate who appeals to urban industrial working class whites (by being protectionist, somewhat socially conservative, and supporting unions and a minimum wage raise) would do well in areas with urban industrial working class whites, like Eastern Michigan and Eastern Pennsylvania. (MI and PA have a good chunk of electoral votes ;) ).

A candidate who is socially moderate but wants to cut taxes may do well with wealthy white collar whites in Southern California or the suburbs of Chicago and New York.
A candidate who appeals to a minority group, like African Americans, Hispanics, or Native Americans, would do well in areas with large populations of the particular minority group. Etc....

The home state effect and regional effect is also in play. For example, if there are two Bernie Sanders-style progressive candidates they will both do well in regions like New England and the Pacific Northwest. But if progressive candidate "A" is from Portland, Oregon and progressive candidate "B" is from Burlington, Vermont, the home state effect and regional favoritism will be a factor, and progressive candidate "A" would do well in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, northern California) and progressive candidate "B" would do well in New England (Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island).

Regionalism is also an effect within each individual state. For example, if there are two George Bush-style neocon candidates, with candidate "A" being from Houston, Texas and candidate "B" being from Dallas, Texas, then state level regionalism will be a factor. Candidate "A" will do well in the Houston area in Southeastern Texas and candidate "B" will do well in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Northeastern Texas

Feel free to post speeches given by your candidate, release statements by your candidate, attack opponents, or anything like that. It could be a factor.

I will start creating the results when a sufficient number of candidates are accepted. I will factor in any late entering candidates so don't worry about being late.

Just submit an app and you're set. Campaigning is optional.

Candidate Description
Picture of candidate (optional): N/A.
Candidate name: Matthew Lee.
Candidate race: Caucasian, African-American and Native American.
Candidate home state: Minnesota.
Candidate residence: Minneapolis.
Candidate Platform
Abortion: Personally against abortion without serious reason, but will allow for it as he believes it is not always the government's business to 'butt into' these things.
Crime: How exactly should this be described?
Convicted criminals shall be given the right to vote unless they've committed major crimes such as but not limited to rape, murder, assault, and even sexual harassment. More funding should be put into programs that allow criminals to be rehabilitated and get jobs.
Solitary confinement should be banned. Clean up the judicial system.
Death penalty: Anti-unless its terrorism, extreme sexual assault, mass murder or any crimes equally 'wrong'.
Drug legalization: Marijuana use should be decriminalized, but not legalized. Other, more dangerous drugs shouldn't be allowed at all.
Education: Learn some things from Finland, but not so much that it becomes costly.
Energy: Cleaner, more efficient energy sources should be used.
Environment: Government regulation to help stop...or rather reduce the effects of climate change.
Foreign Aid: Supports foreign aid to third world countries.
Foreign Policy: Stop drone strikes near civilian areas, become more active globally through trade and international cooperation. Be more diplomatic and stop being too 'gung-ho' but keep a steady military. Some bases outside of dangerous/risky/conflicty areas should be closed for money.
Guns: Ban assault weapons. He is against the use of guns, but knows he can't do anything and that acting too strongly may or may not harm his campaign.
Healthcare: Canada, eh? Single-payer system. Rapidly raise the costs of unnecessary cosmetics.
Homeland security: Close 'gitmo'. Lowered surveillance but allow police to use more powerful weapons. Wants laws to protect whistleblowers.
Immigration: Allow screening, but..hands off TSA! Illegal immigrants who are trying to enter shouldn't be allowed in, of course, but if they pay taxes and have set up a stable life for themselves than they shall be allowed to remain.
Israel: Neutral, willing to call out both sides.
LGBT rights: Pro-LGBT.
Minimum wage: Remain the same.
Taxes: Taxes should be based on your wealth. Churches should be taxed depending on size and financial benefits on the local community. Regular tax breaks. Tax shouldn't be 'wasted' on art and non-essential things other than the occasional festival.
Trade: Expand free trade. Proposes 'Scientific Trade Acts', which would be based on promoting research, a safer environment and be revolutionary, not reactionary.
Unions: Supports unions.
Welfare: Keep welfare the same, drug testing for welfare recipients.
Any other positions in candidate's platform (optional): Pro-Catalonia, pro-science/technology, pro-Net Neutrality and anti-Electoral College.
Matthew is much more liberal and progressive but isn't stupid and reserves some of his opinions and beliefs so he can become more popular among different groups and bring new changes in the future when more suitable. Therefore some of the above may not be what he actually believes to be right (Such as minimum wage which he hopes to possibly raise.) Wants to lower voting age to 16.
Slogan- "For a better Tomorrow, for a better World, for a better USA".

And I'm actually tri-racial, so I'm not just trying to appeal to different races even if I am only about 15% Mi'kmaq (Aboriginal.)
Not that you said anything, but I know some people may try to go all out.

Being tri-racial has its benefits. Race has proven to be a factor in US elections. You can certainly appeal to multiple minority groups by being multi-racial.

In essence, this is going to be McNally's pitch to voters, expressed in five simple points:
  1. You will be able to obtain quality healthcare, no matter what.
  2. Your children will be able to obtain a world-class education, no matter what.
  3. We will ensure that if you are working, you will recieve a living wage, no matter what.
  4. We will ensure that your job will not be shipped overseas.
  5. We will fix up a corrupt political system with campaign finance reform and proportional representation.

In summary: This is going to be an economic campaign, and will not focus on social issues or the culture war. He has positions on the "Culture War", but these will not be emphasized.

We're going to campaign primarily in states where the working class has faced hard times, as well as cities and impoverished neighborhoods. We're especially going to campaign hard for votes in the South and in Applachia, where we have the appeal of being highly religious and againt abortion, as well as economically progressive. There, we stand to win strongly.

Our message is a winning message. To the coasts, we offer liberalism on almost every front. To Middle America, we offer plain, sensible messages that will help American wallets.

Early polls between the first two candidates to enter the race, Robert Marston and Matthew Lee. Marston polls well in the south, southwest, and western mountain states. Lee polls well in most of the upper midwest and the northeast. The west coast is leaning Lee, but is competitive, as are some states on the eastern seaboard.

Polls are expected to shift wildly as more candidate enter the race.

All accepted!

Ramalan is fairly conservative, and McNally will dig into many industrial working class whites who are swing voters. But yeah there is some real vote splitting for progressives at the moment.

You're still ahead in the upper western part of the mid west though. I'll try to make more polls.

This pretty much is both the IC and OOC thread. All you really do is submit a candidate. Anything else is optional but helps you.

Little Rock, Arkansas, Robby Ramalan Rally

Ramalan stood up to the podium:

“Hello, citizens of Little Rock! As you all know, I fight for conservative ideas, and our other presidential candidates all seem comm- er… liberal. (crowd laughs) Well, we do have a good conservative representation in me, and recent polls have shown that one of my opponents, Marston, has been leading in many historically conservative states. We have many ideals that the others see as “rascist”, but tell me, aren’t movements like Black Lives Matter rascist against others? (crowd nods) One of my main problems is that I’m tired of having to give extra to LGBTQ people just ecause they are LGBTQ.I mean, it’s OK for them to have the same rights as everyone else, it’s fine, but why do THEY GET MORE RIGHTS? They have been getting extra welfare just because they are what they are, this is nonsense! (Crowd claps and cheers for a few seconds) Thank you. Now as my campaign slogan reflects, when I’m elected, I will take action on matters like these, and give you, good citizens, results! Now let me clear some misconceptions, on my campaign logo, it shows a male and a female. People have accused me of being anti-LG because of this. No, this is to show that I fight for equal rights for both genders. Speaking of equals rights for both genders, I want to expose feminism. I am a firm believer in equal rights for both genders, FEMINISTS however, believe that women should have more rights then men! (Crowd does and ooooh like a mic drop) People,we need equality, not supremacy! (crowd: :lol2: ) I also want to discuss abortion, abortion IS MURDER! You basically take a potential genius, and kill them before they are born. THIS IS HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE! That’s all I have now, thank you!
(crowd:     )
