On Wonder Island

Nathan had enhanced his hearing as much as possible, trying not to burn through his almost empty tank already. All he could hear were beating heartbeats, shuffling footsteps, and, in the distance, the tap-tap of running students. He could hear a group of students gathering inside, and was tempted to go back in. He had lost track of the heartbeats below the ground amidst all the panic, and he hadn't been able to find it since. But then, he saw them. Even with his normal vision, he could see the moving orange. There was at least a dozen prison uniforms, brightly lit in the darkness. They were close. Too close.

He wanted to confront them, but he hesitated. Why would prisoners be here, on Wonder Island? What were the chances of them being on the island the same time as a Thomsen High party? Close to none, so either the stars aligned...or it was a test. Euphoria jolted through Nathan. Here was his chance, to finally join a super team. Of course it was a test! It all made so much sense. Well, Nathan was going to pass this test with flying colors.

Absorbing energy from anything he could (lights, students, any heat in the cold air), Nathan started for the group of prisoners. Before leaving the group, he turned to one of his fellow students.

"Start running," he whispered. "It's about to get ugly."

Tracking the orange jumpsuits as they continued their journey, Nathan yelled "Hey! Going somewhere?"

Somewhere in the Canadian Wilderness

Yierneg awoke on the floor of the forest behind his home, covered in dirt and bugs.

"Disgusting!" he exclaimed, trying to wipe off as much as he could. Stamping his hoof and flapping his wings, he shuffled towards the small lake, so small it could be called a pond.

"I must have fallen asleep after the spell," he muttered, wary about drenching himself in the cold water.

Tentatively dipping one hoof in, Yierneg tripped and rolled his way into the pond, screaming and flapping his now useless wings. The cold water was refreshing, yes, but it also rendered him effectively useless. He couldn't fly, and his fur was matted, and he could feel his connection to Thol and magic weakening. Still, swimming was indeed fun for him. He splashed around for a little bit before bathing himself, and attempting to get rid of all the grime he had accumulated in his sleep.

Exiting the lake, Yierneg flapped his wings and grabbed a couple towels from the porch, drying himself and his lower body before delicately dabbing at his wings. That was the worst part about water; it could only be airdried from his wings. The wings, though, did look beautiful in the sun. The humans had created such a large variety of shampoos, and most seemed to work and keeping his hair and wings at their normal glory. The sun shining through his wings and on his silver skin and fur mad ehim appear to be made of gold, in no small part due to his hair and tattoos.

A couple hours later, Yierneg stood inside the cabin of his, repeating the simple illusion spell he knew by heart. He watched in the mirror, amazed, as his form shimmered, his wings fading into the brown wood of the cabin. His back legs too disappeared. His front legs grew shorter, the fur turning to a pale, Caucasian skin. His upper body soon followed, his tattoos fading into his new skin color. The gold of his hair subtly became a human blonde. Standing in front of him in the mirror was now a tall male human.

It was time for him to gather food from the human store grouping, or what they called "shopping mall". The nearest one was twenty miles away, around a half hour by flying. Under the illusion spell, Yierneg appeared to be flying with no wings, which he always enjoyed. It was always hard for him to not drop down, show himself for what he truly was. He always wished he wouldn't have to hide his true self, but he also knew better than to trust his brothers would not hear. The minute he revealed himself the information would be on a path to them.

Nearing his destination, Yierneg landed on an empty road, walking towards the mall. By human standards, it was very, very small. There was never anybody there, save for the occasional drunk man or homeless person. Upon entering the store he wanted, he closed his eyes for a moment, opening them while a talisman around his neck glowed softly. He was gone, to the eyes of the outside world. Quickly rushing to stuff as much food as he could into his coat—the macaronis and cheese were his favorite—he ran, going from aisle to aisle.

He didn't even see the wet floor sign coming. He crashed into it with a loud bang, slipping and falling. He tried grabbing onto the shelves, but he was just pulling food off the racks on his way down. His concentration had been shot. He was in full view of the world, and would just have to try again for food later. Luckily there wasn't enough water on the floor to rid him of his illusion spell, but that had been too close for comfort. He had to promise to himself to work on his magic even more.

I and Alexis swiftly ran towards the group that had been formed in the middle of the building. As I got closer I found that instead of normal, or what passed as normal here in Thomsen High, students, there also among them a scaly girl that got some problem with trees and an dragon looking, boy, I presumed from his voice. Oh, and there was also a boy with cupcakes.

Trust me when I say this is not the weirdest thing I've ever seen in Thomsen High. A definite contender though.

While Alexis talked with those guys about volunteering, I watched the perimeter while holding tight to my version of Roman Candle. Hopefully, the colorful blast of light and flames this iron tube produces would be enough to fend off any oncoming threats. My sunglasses told me that other than the ten or so students that were gathering with us, there is also another group of person in the island. Four of them were noticably bright in my vision. Metas, or mages. Neither one is a good news for us.

I was going to tell them about the situation when suddenly the dragon guy went all Alduin and spewed a pillar of flame to the heavens above.

"Yeah Dragon guy, I think you should stay a bit higher from the ground all put your snout towards somewhere safe." I agreed with him. That was when I noticed that Mars, a close friend of Roy the Nightshade, was there with us. What made me curious was where Roy was?

We didn't have time to think about that though, not with the pace of the advancing bunch I'm strangers. Worse, I thought I saw one of the students rushing right at them.

"Guys, look here." I cued them to look at the same general direction as I did. "Those strangers seem to move closer to us," I signalled with my iron rod. "I don't know who they are, but I think they're here to make some troubles. If you guys are making some strategy to face em', do it fast. I think I can hold them for a while before one of you finish them up." I looked at the boy with cupcakes. "Sorry to say this, but those cupcakes will have to wait."

She then began scanning for threats, her eyes darting across everything until she came to rest on the group of men. She frowned, noticing them.

Then Roy spoke. He could see the group far better than Cass could. Cass wondered if perhaps she should ask for some sort of infared upgrade to her eyes. "Threat assessment confirms your suspicions. It is unlikely they have any legitimate reason to be here."

Then Roy commanded her to stay behind and look after the other adolescents. She frowned slightly. If these men truly were a threat then she would be leaving Roy to deal with them on his own, but if she came with him she would not be protecting the others. Either way she would be failing part of her duty and that annoyed her. She opened her mouth to protest, but before she could Roy had left her behind.

She paused, looking around briefly for the students. She noticed a small group of them up ahead and walked towards them, listening in on their conversation. She detected a high probability that they were planning to go outside after Roy. She wanted to do the same, but she had her orders and needed to carry them out. That was Protocol E after all.

"Students. Our survival rate decreases dramatically if we leave this area. Please do not go after Roy Damon. Please do not engage the hostil- I mean strangers." She spoke, raising her voice volume yet keeping the same level so she would be heard over the talking. "Instead, I am programmed with several evacuation strategies for situations like-"

But then she saw Nathan walk outside the building after whispering to one of the students. Her eyes widened suddenly as she went after him. "Don't go!" She said, a hint of emotion in her voice. "You should not engage the orange suited men. They may be dangerous. Escaped prisoners have at least a 73.5% probability of being dangerous!"

Seeing no threats in his immediate vicinity, Casimir found the friends who had invited him the party cowering behind a bush. He had some insects scope out the area earlier for in case things went south just for him. Unfortunately, it looked like something decided to ruin the night for everyone. After giving them directions for the quickest escape route, Casimir returned to the where he had initially been aiming to investigate for any overt cause. After looking around for a while he saw Mars near a diverse group of kids and some less human looking people.

He walked right next to Mars just as he asked for volunteers hoping to speak up first. Casimir was confident he could take on whatever was causing trouble by himself, after all it couldn't be worse than some of the stuff he's dealt with before but having help would probably make it so he wouldn't end up crippled like that last time. He decided to wait his turn to speak as he observed the different people speak up in turn. A girl with claws volunteered first punching a tree to show off her supposed strength. Pretty nice, almost as strong as me, he thought before being flabbergasted as some dragon looking dude just straight up used Flamethrower up at the sky.

After swiftly recovering from shock, Casimir spoke up but didn't manage to get a single syllable out because some sunglasses wearing person suggested that they make a plan while he held them off. Cheeky cunt, what could he do that I couldn't, thought Casimir folding his arms in frustration. He cocked his head at the girl wearing the maid outfit who had just walked towards them. She began giving a warning about survival rate and her programming, which that latter part in particular sparked his interest, but she suddenly left after some other people.

"Alright then Mars", he asserted turning to face Mars, "if you want us to do what I think we're gonna do then count me in. My name's Casimir and as far as powers go I got ten times the strength of a champion bodybuilder and can outrun and outlast any Olympic runner." He decided that would be the extent of his powers he was going to share, he wasn't going to reveal his power over bugs and healing factor this night. They were still strangers and he didn't want anyone figuring out he was the superhero Kabuto just yet. Although he still doubted anyone had ever heard of him.

"If we're going to fight these trouble makers then I'm your man," he stated puffing his chest out.

Red

Red had just been about to seal the deal with a blonde he'd been dancing with when the ground beneath him suddenly began to shake, followed by a blinding flash of light that came from nowhere. While he managed to remain calm, most of the other teenagers around him immediately began to panic. Red cursed at his luck as this panicked mob included the girl he'd been with, realizing he hadn't even gotten a number from her.

"Whoever did this is dead meat," he grumbled as he looked around in an attempt to figure out just what in the hell was happening. Majority of the party goers had fled away from the scene, and it seemed like only a few handful remained. Red debated on what to do, seeing as he really had no means to do anything himself. Surely if anything was going on, someone else could take care of it.

However, just as Red was about to haul ass out of there, he noticed a group of men walking around wearing prisoner uniforms he recognized belonging to Westgate Prison. Red had sent more than a few criminals to that place, albeit normally beaten and bruised, and knew that letting them escape would only mean he'd have to catch them again.

Cursing under his breath, Red began sprinting towards where he'd parked his motorcycle, pressing a small button on his watch as he did. In the distance, he could hear his motorcycle's engine suddenly roar to life, this sound quickly becoming closer as it's autopilot system guided it towards Red's position. Within a minute of running, his bike finally reached him, much to his appreciation.

While at first glance it appeared to be just a typical crimson colored Dodge Tomahawk, this bike had much more to offer. In addition to its autopilot system, the bike was equipped with hidden dual .30 caliber machine guns on the front, bulletproof tires and frame, and a storage compartment that held all of the basic equipment that Red used to fight crime. It had cost him a pretty penny, but all of his previous...work had provided him with enough money to last him for many years to come.

After punching in the security code for the storage compartment, Red began to quickly change out from his party attire and into his crime fighting outfit. Unlike most superheroes, Red kept his outfit both simple and purposeful. He wore a brown leather jacket over a light Kevlar vest that protected his torso from projectiles and blades, as well as a small red mask that protected his identity. While he attended school without it on, his quote on quote "Hero" identity was unknown to his peers as well as most of his educators. He preferred this, as it allowed him to live a somewhat peaceful life when he wasn't fighting crime.

As for his equipment, he opted for his usual gear: Two custom made Sig Sauer P229 handguns chambered in .40 S&W and his titanium nitride coated blade. Due to his restriction of no killing, he was forced to use a variety of non-lethal ammunition to use for his handguns, and his use of the blade was limited to disabling his opponents. He also carried a variety of other gadgets, ranging from stun grenades to grappling hooks. Even without any real super powers, Red was more than a match for anyone that tried to get in his way, or at least he liked to think so.

Now that he was equipped, he closed the storage compartment and then hopped onto the bike and sped off back towards where the commotion was at. He seemed to arrive just in time, as it appeared that someone else had already confronted the group of escaped criminals. Red vaguely recognized the kid, believing his name to be Nathan or something close to that. Behind him he noticed what appeared to be another girl following close behind, appearing to be trying to get Nathan to back down.

Not knowing what else to do, Red hopped off of his bike and began walking towards the group of prisoners as well, who seemed less than pleased to see that they had been discovered. Red couldn't tell exactly what it was, but he sensed that something was...off about them. He approached carefully, ready for anything as he knew these prisoners weren't likely going to go down without a fight.

Roy
Roy traveled through the darkness at rapid speed, arriving at his car in a matter of seconds. He quickly unlocked his trunk, moving Mars' technological junk out of the way until he found his suit case. Inside sat Roy's body armor, as well as his black silk mask that he wore over his face and his collapsible staff. He suited up and after a few minutes he disappeared into the darkness again. Moments later he appeared on a tree branch, looking forward at the approaching group of prisoners. Roy counted them out, and found that there were sixteen of them. He spent a few moments studying them, six walked in a row together, with ten lined up behind them. As he scanned through them they seemed normal until...

"Holy shit...." Roy said under his breath.

The one standing in the middle was massive, and clearly not human, at least not a normal one. He stood at least 8 feet tall, and his muscles bulged unnaturally. Beyond that, electricity seemed to surge around him, sparks occasionally flying around him.

That one might be a problem. Roy thought to himself grimly before forcing himself to focus. If this one had powers, there was a good chance the others did as well. Just as Roy started to formulate a game plan in his mind however, shit started hitting the fan around him. He heard a voice in the near distance behind him. He didn't know what was said, but it got the convicts attention.

The behemoth in the middle turned toward whoever was speaking and laughed, "Ya we are, you going to stop us pipsqueak?" He asked, electricity crackling at his fingertips.

"Damn it..." Roy said to himself. He wasn't sure who this kid was, but he just made his job a hell of a lot harder. He quickly scanned the rest of the perimeter and saw the Mask, a vigilante that Roy knew from his time in New York was approaching lock and loaded as well. Roy knew this would get out of hand fast, and he had to make his move now so that the prisoners' attention was on him and not the other.

With that, he braced himself and sprung from the branch, his staff raised above his head. He flew gracefully towards the inmate that appeared to be the leader, smashing his face with the staff so fast the target couldn't even react until Roy was already on the ground and waiting for the response.

That should get his attention. Roy thought with a bit of satisfaction.

"You son of a bitch!" The inmate shouted angrily. His voice was booming and could be heard by most of the Island. "KILL HIM!" He shouted to the others, and soon the 3 of the inmates who stood behind the others were all charging at Roy, and he readied his staff, smiling at the challenge.

Mars
Mars was a little overwhelmed by all the responses he received, but in hindsight he should have expected that so he did his best to listen to everyone. Kirisvala seemed eager to show her abilities, and it seemed clear her claws could come in handy in battle. Alexis spoke up suddenly, Mars hadn't realized she was there, but she also seemed eager to join. "Uh, there's some trouble going on here, we don't know what yet but we want to help stop it."

Caleb Thomsen also arrived them, carrying cupcakes for some reason, though Mars knew that he was a talented baker. "Uh ya, like I was saying. There bad people on the Island and I think we need to do something to stop them."

Then Mars was happy when Casimir and Amir agreed to join as well, the more people they had with them the better. Then however, Cassandra, Roy's AI bodyguard and assistant run after Nathan who had already left the hanger. He knew Roy was just looking out for them, but he was looking out for Roy too. He was almost glad Nathan had distracted her, it would give them time to---

"KILL HIM!" Mars heard a booming voice shout. He didn't recognize the voice, but it was nearby and it didn't sound friendly. "Alright people, we need to go now, it's dark, so stay together and don't run off on your own." Mars said sounding serious. He pressed a button on his right wrist watch, activating what was basically a threat protocol. He didn't have much on him, but he hoped his watch could be enough.

He led the group away from the hanger and towards the commotion, until the brewing fight came into view. Mars eyes instantly went to the unnaturally large man in the group of inmates, and he realized they might have been getting into something that was over their heads. He couldn't back down though, not when he saw Roy was in trouble.

"Kirisvala, Casimir, think you can distract the big guy? Don't get to close, or give him a chance to hurt you, just draw his attention so we can deal with the others. Everyone else, pick a buddy and go after one of the inmates, be careful though we don't know anything about them." After he said that, he turned to Wyatt, "Wyatt, come with me? I'm concerned about that smaller guy on the right." Mars said, pointing the man standing next to the Behemoth with electricity powers. "He seems to be among the leaders, based on who he's standing with but I'm not sure why and that scares me. Want to try to confront him together?"

Nathan's confident stride towards the group of prisoners was interrupted by their response. Most looked like your normal, run-of-the mill convicts. But a select few seemed different somehow, obviously the leaders of the ragtag group of misfits. The one that stood out most was a hulking beast, almost unrecognizable as a man. His muscles bulged through the jumpsuit, which was almost too stretched to stay together. He was bald, tall, and ugly. And most definitely the biggest threat.

With a sly smile on his face, Nathan continued, unwilling to show his powers just yet. The lights around him groaned and flickered as he absorbed their energy, but still supplied him. Almost a third of the tank was full. Plenty to beat these guys. Keeping his eyes on the big ugly in the middle, Nathan was shocked to see blue streaks of lightning flash around his body, dissipating into the air only to reappear. A superhuman. That's why those few at the front seemed different.

Nathan faltered for a moment, stopping to think. A third of the tank was definitely not enough to face off against superhuman criminals, not alone. He considered turning back towards the others and pretending like nothing happened. But then he would fail the test, and that was one thing he wasn't going to do. Stuck in a pickle, Nathan bit his lip and stayed in place, not moving forward.

"Ya we are, you going to stop us pipsqueak?" a voice boomed, interrupting his thoughts.

It was the man in the middle, their leader. Nathan clenched his jaw at the pipsqueak comment, ready to throw everything he had at the asshole, when another voice interrupted him.

"You should not engage the orange suited men. They may be dangerous. Escaped prisoners have at least a 73.5% probability of being dangerous!" a girl yelled, surprisingly calm.

She didn't look like anyone he had seen passing in the halls, but he had never really focused on other people. Her skin was pale, and seemed almost sickly when illuminated by the still flickering lights. Her short hair walked that thin line between red and brown, a clear contrast to her skin. What surprised him most was her outfit. It was a butler's costume, like one you could buy at a Party City. Nathan almost laughed, looking at this girl dressed as a butler spitting out statistics like it was nothing.

Once again, Nathan's thoughts were interrupted by a savage grunt. Oh, what now?, Nathan thought already tired of the constant interruptions. He turned to find someone already attacking the prisoners. A man, or perhaps boy, flew through the cool evening air, sleek as a panther. His black outfit blended into the night, and at first Nathan thought he was a ninja, until he saw his face. It was the easily recognizable, classically handsome Roy. Everyone loved Roy, everyone except Nathan. He didn't hate him, exactly. It was impossible to hate him, and that was what Nathan loathed. He despised Roy's inability to be hated.

And now he had a lot more to despise Roy for. Roy was stealing his thunder, his moment to be the hero! He smashed the lead electricity guy in the face with a long staff, angering the behemoth. At the same instant, Nathan noticed another vigilante, only because of the red mask that flashed in the dim lights. They were stealing his moment! That girl probably distracted him as part of some sort of plan to keep him away! He wouldn't have it.

Bounding towards the prisoners, all the lights around Nathan exploded, as he tried to force too much electricity through them towards him. Setting his sights on the big one, Nathan slowed and prepared to knock him out with one, giant punch. He never got the chance. Out of nowhere, a jet of blue fire roared through the air, finding a destination on Nathan's arms. Still half-blinded from the sudden light, all he could do was scream in horror as he felt his skin melt into his tissue, which too soon began to burn. Once the onslaught had ended, all that was left of Nathan's arm was black char, barely recognizable as human.

The only thing that stayed constant was the pain. It was so powerful it had encompassed his whole being, mind, body, and soul. He could feel nothing but pain, hurt that stabbed its way into his brain and then cut its way throughout his body. He couldn't feel or move anything from his elbow down in his right arm. Some of the skin and muscle had burned right off, and white flecks of bone peeked out of the blackness. The air smelled like burned meat, smoke still rising from his arm. His stomach rumbled at the smell, which almost made Nathan throw up.

He fell to the ground, his other hand just barely touching what remained of his right arm, for fear of causing more pain. Tears fell, but he couldn't even feel them over the pain. To him, everything was silent for a few seconds, his ears still ringing out of simple shock. And then, footsteps, getting louder and louder. He looked up to see one of the smaller leaders of the group. He wasn't huge, like the other two, and seemed more like one of those scraggly types who could still hold themselves in a fight.

"They put me in for arsony, and now look what they've given me!" the man chortled, his high-pitched laugh turning into a cough. He held up one arm, a small flame dancing over his palm. He smiled crazily, his eyes lit up with a fire of their own. "Smells beautiful, doesn't it, pipsqueak?" He smiled, taunting him.

Nathan stared defiantly at the man, using all of his tank to slowly heal his arm. He could hear the tissue rearranging itself, the blood working its way back into the arm. The man had caught him off guard with the first blast, and his arrogance was giving Nathan enough time to heal.

"Well, so long pipsqueak" the man continued, laughing once again and holding out both arms.

"Fool me once," Nathan coughed, his voice more than raspy. "Shame on you."

The man cocked his head in confusion for a second, before making a decision. You could see his eyes change, his face turn up in preparation for its expression of maniacal glee, as he flexed his arms, and blue flames of death shot out from them.

At the last second, Nathan brought up his charred arm, extending it as if he were going to catch the flames. The heat hit first, releasing a tidal wave of sweat across Nathan's body at once. Then came just the tip of the flames, tickling his exposed nerves. When the first jet-fast flame hit, he was prepared. It's energy was quickly absorbed into his tank, supplying him with power, as the second flame hit. Together, they were filling Nathan's tank at an alarming rate. But the cost was great. The little healing Nathan had managed in the arm was gone, replaced by more agonizing, excruciating pain. There was too much pain for him to handle, the sensory portions of his brain overloaded, brain cells dying. And the flames, they seemed to continue forever, disappearing as they hit his arm but followed by their brethren of agony.

He must have blacked out once or twice, the sleeves of his shirt starting to blacken from the heat. His sweat steamed form his skin, sizzling in the presence of the flames. All Nathan could do was wait and hope the unending onslaught of pain would somehow quit its mission to destroy him. He waited for what seemed like hours, the extended arm fatigued on top of all the pain. And then, something inside Nathan clicked, a feeling he had rarely ever felt. The tank was full of usable energy, pulsing with power and threatening to overflow. With renewed vigor, he threw all of the energy into healing his arm. Once again slimy tissue attempted to restructure itself, arteries and veins pushing themselves through. The flames, no matter how much they damaged him, could not be quicker then the rate of his healing. The tank's level stayed almost constant, energy being drained as fast as it was absorbed.

Finally, the arm was healed. Still, the flames continued, an endless barrage, but they could not get past the arm, and they couldn't damage it faster than it was healed. When the flames stopped, Nathan was still as close to full as possible. The man, tall and lanky with a gray scruff across his chin, stood leaning with his hands on his bent knees, breathing heavily.

"But you won't fool me twice," Nathan continued, also breathing heavily but doing his best to hide it.

Any remaining bruises on his body simultaneously disappeared. Working on overtime, his body pumped out blood cells to replace those lost; brain cells were created as well, neurons transferring at a faster speed than what should be humanly possible. Nathan strengthened every muscle in his body more than he ever had. The effort was taxing his tank, reducing it quickly to half-full. Still, Nathan was sure it would be filled up again soon enough. He was only focused on one thing: revenge. That simple thought took over his whole body the same way the pain had.

Nathan slowed his breathing, his entire body tense and still sweating. The first subject of his revenge? The man in front of him, who had stopped panting long enough to stare in horror and confusion and, most of all, fear, at Nathan. Glaring back with an anger unparalleled, Nathan slowly stood, hands in fists at his sides.

Carter Graystone
What in God's blue name is happening?

Carter had been...doing his thing. The party had been too stressful. Crowds, chatter, laughter, more crowds, it had been...suffocating. Trapping inside a tiny space where he couldn't escape. A pulsating mass of body and sweat choking him. It had been a little too much for him to bear. So, he retreated to the wall where he sipped some Grey Goose and pretended nothing was happening, closing his eyes, praying, and hoping it would all end. If anybody had seen him, they had probably thought he was an alcoholic Christian, but that's besides the point.

Suddenly, the ground had shook and rumbled and a blinding light appeared. And that's when Carter had heard the sound of all hell breaking loose. Absolute chaos. Screams choked the air, footsteps sounded like the beats of a war-drum, and people moved to-and-for trying to escape. All Carter could think was:

"What in God's blue name is happening?"

He started to sneak outside with the crowd, panicking the whole time. He started breathing quickly , sweat beading on his brow, his hands shaking and becoming clammy. No...no, he couldn't be here, he had to get outside. And so he did.

He stopped for a moment to breathe, and soon bore witness to the fight at hand. He spotted the jumpsuits. Bright orange, you had to be color-blind or a panicked idiot to miss them. Which, come to think, was 90% of the party population. And soon, fighting broke loose. Electric staves, motorcycles, statistics, and kids with permanently/temporarily damaged right arms played out in front of his eyes. That's when it snapped. All the stress, bottling up and hyperactivity crammed inside burst out.

He sprinted in a full charge at the three prisoners, launching a flying kick to the head at the fiery one that had burned Nathan, knocking him to the ground and hopefully stunning him, before launching a huge wave of air that knocked the other two some feet.

"Nathan, Roy, I don't feel like dying today, and I don't believe that you do either, so why don't we put the prisoners to bed. Not sexually."

He then leaped backwards as a dual onslaught of electricity and flames leaped out at him. His lightfootedness and reflexes kicked in as he leaped backwards and pushed a wave of air against the ground, sending him a good distance back, away from the prisoners. And that's when he asked Nathan and Roy an important question.

"Shall we?"
yea bro idk

Red

The fight began almost immediately, and it quickly became apparent that Red's earlier feeling of caution had been correct. These prisoners seemed to possess superhuman powers, and they seemed eager to use them to their full lethal intent. Roy had already drawn a lot of attention, and so had the Nathan kid who seemed to possess some type of energy consumption ability as the lights around him exploded in quite the dramatic manner.

Red was prepared to find his opponent, but it appeared that his opponent had found him as seemingly out of nowhere a metal pipe sliced the air right in front of his face. Red jumped back in surprise, cursing as he tried to find the source of his attack. He soon found it, as a tall and lanky man sadistically grinned at him, a large metal dumpster floating in the air above him.

"Good moves kid. But I've got plenty more where that's coming from."

Red's reply was simple and to the point.

"Oh shi-"

He didn't get to finish as he was forced to roll out of the way out of the incoming dumpster. He barely had time to get to his feet before he once again had to dodge an incoming object, this time one of the larger speakers that had been previously blaring music. The prisoner let out a maniacal laugh as he forced Red on the defensive, throwing item after item with his telekinetic powers.

However this laughter was soon cut off as a hail of bullets came his way via Red's pistols. The man was quick enough to react by stopping the bullets mid flight, but the small table that was intended for Red suddenly dropped out of the sky, seemingly no longer under the influence of the prisoner. Red was quick to note this as a sign that his opponent's power, while powerful, was limited to what he could focus on at one time.

If I can keep him occupied I can get in close enough to end this, he thought as he continued to fire his pistols towards the prisoner. However he was soon forced behind cover as the man sent the round right back at him at nearly the same speed they originally left his barrel. Red used this brief break in the action to try and think of his plan. After weighing his options and considering his opponent, he managed to think of a plan, albeit one that was dangerous at best. Still, he had no other choice and prepared to make his move.

Red had managed to slam in new magazines into his pistols before the concrete pillar he'd been behind suddenly began to shake before being flung into the air. Standing in front of him was the telekinetic prisoner who looked like a cat who had just trapped a mouse into a corner. Red had just enough time to react to raise one of his pistols towards the man, his other hand reaching into his jacket pocket.

He was too late, however, to pull the trigger, as he suddenly felt as if a giant hand had picked up his body, trapping his arms against his sides before smashing him against the ground. All of the air in his lungs was immediately dispelled, leaving him winded and unable to retaliate. The telekinetic man took his time to walk over to Red, seemingly relishing seeing the teenager being helpless. When the man reached Red, he looked down on him for a few seconds before reaching down and ripping the mask off of the vigilante's face.

Red tried to yell at the man but was only able to make soft grunts noises as the force holding him down stopped him from being able to speak properly. The man raised an eyebrow at this, seemingly curious as to what the boy had to say. Red could feel the invisible hand loosen enough that he could move his mouth. His opponent, all too eager to hear his last words, mocking leaned down so he hear what Red had to say. What he didn't notice was the small smile of the vigilante's face as well as the small movement of his hand still located in his jacket pocket.

"What a shocking reveal, eh?"

The man looked down at Red confused, before his faced suddenly locked up in pain as 50,000 volts of electricity suddenly surged through his body, thanks to the miniature taser grenades Red had placed on the ground just prior to being caught. They were one of his favorite little toys, as they were programmed to hit any human sized target within a three foot radius bar their user. As shown, they were extremely effective at taking down even some of the toughest foes in a matter of seconds.

Now freed from the telekinetic grip of his assailant, Red tried to get an idea of how the others were doing as he painfully tried to catch his breath. He noted numerous newcomers to the fight, them being what looked like fellow students from Red's high school. Their appearance suddenly made Red remember that his identity would now be blown if they saw him, something Red purposely tried to keep in order to avoid all the headaches it would bring should his identity as a vigilante be known. The thought of retreating into the shadows and hiding for the remainder of the fight, but he knew that a certain someone would chew his ass out for doing that.

"Knew I shouldn't have came here," Red grumbled before walking towards where Roy, Nathan, and another student stood before the rest of the prisoners. He retrieved his second pistol from its holster, taking a deep breath as he prepared for what was next.

"Shall we?"

"After you, blowhard."

He knew Thomsen High was filled with many a strange person, himself included. The sheer number of people who showed up to the party and also had powers was staggering. It was a good thing. It meant that explaining his situation to those who would listen or care would be easier. However, the group was approached by three people. Three men. One so large and muscular that Wyatt thought he was going to explode. He didn't, but his power was obvious enough. Another one just had electricity arcing all over his body, and seemed a bit twitchy. The last and smallest was a short and frail looking man. He'd watched enough TV and knew enough about pop culture to never underestimate someone who looked frail. Especially not when powers were involved. He would have much rather have gone after the larger of the group, because it was obvious what power he had and Wyatt could fly. Mars however suggested that he help him with the shorter one.

He wasn't too big on the idea. He had no idea what the man's powers could be. And he was powerful and vicious enough to be alongside the other two and in prison, but he trusted Mars's judgment. However there was still the matter of the fact that he had received his powers approximately a minute ago. "Um, sure Mars." Wyatt replied. "I don't know how much help I'm going to be since I just got my powers." He was certain that he should run. There was almost no way this turned out positive.

"Wow. An actual dragon. Ain't never killed a dragon before." The small prisoner spoke. "First time for everything!"

Not a great start. How did he start? Get into the air. That was something he could do consistently. He unfurled his wings and jumped with a powerful flap of his wings. It took a few more before he actually got some altitude, but he was a bit above the group. He felt safe until he felt an unseen force grip him around his chest and throw him down into the ground. He kept his wings spread out which lessened the fall a smidgen, but it definitely still hurt when he hit the ground with a slightly audible thud. "Ooomph!" He gasped and groaned as he tried to shake the pain of bruised torso and get back on his feet. It was then he began to feel the same power build up he felt a few minutes prior.

The prisoner clearly didn't think too much of his target. "Come on you big ass lizard. You guys were much scarier in the books. Or that kids cartoon. Where's the fire breath? Where s the ear piercing roar? What's a dragon name... Smaug! Don't know your name kid lizard, so I'mma call you that. Come on Smaug. You gonna roar at me? Hit me with some of that fire breath!"

The power had to get out, and the man literally asked for it. He had no idea how his power was going to work, but he was going to try regardless. He thrust his hands at the man, expecting a massive plume of flame like the first time, but instead, the ground beneath the prisoner erupted and threw him back. "Mars! I had no idea what just happened, but do something!"

Casimir ran alongside the ragtag group of superhumans immediately as Mars gave the order. They had heard some unnaturally deep voice order to kill someone and the sheer malice of it sent shivers down his spine. It also got Casimir's blood lust boiling to the limit as he hadn't had a real fight in months, fighting street thugs can only do so much for practice after all. As the group arrived at the origin of the voice they came to see a few of their own peers facing off what appeared to be escaped criminals. What stood out to Casimir was an extremely large man with a face filled with fury directed at what appeared to be Roy. Immediately, Mars told Casimir and the alien looking girl, who was apparently named Kirisvala, to distract the walking mass of muscle.

"Got it Mars," he said turning to Kirisvala, "Hey Kirisvala, I'll lure him away a bit from everyone else and once he's distracted with me start pummeling the hell out of him. Hopefully he'll be too focused on us and we'll be able to trap him somewhere."

Without waiting for a response from the alien girl, Casimir bolted at the apparent leader of the criminals. The man, if you could call him that, turned at him cussing in surprise and swung his pulsating fist at Casimir but he dodged the hit with the fist only grazing his shirt. Casimir let out a fury of kicks at the man's arm hoping to damage the joint but the brute seemed unfazed.

"You actually call those mosquito bites kicks? I'll show your punk ass what a kick is!" bellowed the giant man immediately attempting to perform a front kick at Casimir. His enormous mass fortunately slowed him drastically as Casimir was able to easily avoid it. Running behind the convict he saw an opportunity and slammed his fist at the giant man's back knocking him face first in to the ground.

"Hey, have you seen a doctor lately? Cause the place your head is supposed to be is occupied by an enormous zit. I'm honestly worried pal." Casimir relished taunting his enemies even if it usually made the situation worse.

"DUMB BITCH!", roared the inmate getting up from the ground. Casimir ran away luring the giant man some distance from his underlings towards the building the party was originally in but it didn't look like it would be enough. Casimir stopped and spun around to face the giant man who was closing in on him. None of my hits have been doing anything, maybe using a quarter of my full strength should be enough, thought Casimir standing steadily in the giant man's path. As the thug was upon him Casimir saw Kirisvala behind the convict.

"Now, Kirisvala!" shouted Casimir lurching forward, with his entire body powering the delivery of his punch aimed directly at the giant convict's face.

Cassandra had to adapt quickly. Her old orders were not going to be very useful. The students were ignoring her, though she really wasn't sure why they were. Ignoring a unit such as herself tended to put people in danger, and people usually tried to avoid danger. It didn't really make much sense, but she was somewhat used to humans being illogical. She had been given some algorithms for determining human behavior, but she had found them to be surprisingly useless. She supposed that was one of the design flaws which never got ironed out of her system.

She noticed three individuals harassing her charge. Roy could likely handle them quite easily, but as a bodyguard and butler it was her job to minimize annoyances to her employer.

Employer? The term seemed innacurate, she was not being paid. What would she even do with money?

What was Roy to her exactly? Charge? Master? Employer? Or something else?

She shook such thoughts off and quickly engaged her combat computer. She didn't want to use her energy weapons on regular humans as much as possible. Though they could be set to stun, it was always best to deal with humans safer than that. She instead swiftly computated a fighting strategem and engaged.

With a burst of speed that was designed to surprise her foes, she quickly rushed over to one of them and grabbed him by the arm.

'What th-" he managed to blurt out before he was tossed with a strength one would find hard to predict from the small butler girl. The flying thug hit his friend with an emphatic thud, sending the two sprawling to the floor.

The third was about to move when suddenly Cass sped forward again. However this time the thug got a lucky shot and slammed a tire iron into CASS. She quickly threw up a couple of arms into the strike, the metal pipe scraping off synthetic skin revealing a silvery metal. The man fell back, dropping his weapon as the vibrations shocked him. It was like hitting metal. He was hitting metal.

"What are you-" He spoke before he was suddenly and viciously kneed in the gut. With an omph he crumpled and fell. She then picked him up and threw them on the other two who were just now recovering from their sudden collision.

"I would stay down if I were you." Spoke Cassandra to the three thugs, though she knew the chances of him listening to her were only 60%. She then turned to roy, her eyes glowing blue now. "It is good to see you are safe Roy. I apologize for not keeping the students out of this fight, but they were... illogical."

".... Everyone else, pick a buddy and go after one of the inmates..."

I thought he spoke some other sentences, but frankly I was too busy charging at the incoming threats with my rod in one hand and airhorn on the other. There were maybe a dozen or so inmates in the area, and after I watched the fights between us and the convicts, I knew some of them had powers.

They were no Hellfire Gang, but I would be a moron if I underestimated them. These people were dangerous when they were only a vanilla human, after all. Else they wouldn't be in the prison. I saw one of the students from the party, I think Nathan was his name, fighting tooth and nails against someone with fancy beam shooting everywhere out of their hands. I also saw how Nathan lost his right arm. I flinched when I saw it and turned my focus towards the other criminals. These guys wouldn't stop to think before they kill any one of us. I hoped that Nathan was okay, that I didn't actually saw his hands and fingers turned to charred lump. Maybe that guy even had a regenerative factors. It would be very sad if he came home with one less arm.

It was a real battle. The fight might be only between a group of teenage partygoers against a ragtag bunch of escapees, but it was an actual, fight-for-your-life brawl. The electromancer just proved it with the charred arm. I was trained for this. Doesn't mean that I was ready for it. A sense of trepidation crept over me. What would my parents say if I came home carrying my chopped hands on my pockets? Worse, what if I couldn't come home at all?

I pushed away those feelings. Magic requires clarity of mind, and my magics were the best tools I could get so far. I am a wizard. A mage that controls the vary power of cosmos itself with my hands. I could do this.

I looked as the biggest guy was being ganged up by four or five students, two of them I believe were the famous hero Nightshade and the notorious vigilante Mask. While they were focusing to take down the tall, big, and ugly, a pair of inmates tried to sneak behind them. I stopped my running and aimed the rod with my right hand. It was harder than what it may seem, especially with so much things happening at once. I used my left arm to better my aim and focused my will into the rod.

Like a lighter fuse, the runes and sigils casted upon the iron rod sparked to life. My will pulled an energy somewhere beyond this Universe and channeled it through the rod. I could feel the energy accumulated at the tip of the rod, an energy that would be transformed into pure light and kinetic energy. It might not do many, but I was sure as hell it would give them quite some pain in the ass.

Before five second passed after I aim my rod, I sent another surge of will to release the energy. A lance of green energy launched from my rod. It hit one of the inmates squarely on her shoulders and threw her behind with a brilliant show of light. When the flash gone, the inmate I was targeting already tumbled next to a wall. I could actually saw fine webs in the surface of the wall from the dents that shaped like the upper torso of the inmate. She was out of action, holding on her dislocated arm while trying to stand up on her own.

It seemed that I had miscalculated the actual amount of punch my rod can give. That means I have to rework it before I could use it for fireworks. It was good as a weapon though.

I targeted the second inmate, this time with a bright blue blaze of light. It went straight to the inmates and just before it hits the target, his body was quickly covered with smoke from toe to the top. Almost as suddenly as it appeared, the smoke was gone along with the targeted inmate. I looked around to find the guy just in time to use my rod to block a punch aimed at the back my head. The moment my rod contacted their arm, they turned once more into a puff of smoke to appear some fifty metres away from me.

A teleporter. Damn.

I have been trained to shoot at moving target. But moving targets were, well, moving. I could predicted where my spells could land by watching their movement. But these teleporters, they only leave something behind to taunt us without really telling where they would go next. I tried to hit him another couple time with my rod, but everytime he only needed to blink away from it.

"Did you miss me?" The guy taunted me. With a lame pun nonetheless. He was clearly having fun, proved by his cliche villain grin and the way the light in his eyes sparkle with the intent to harm, maul, and kill me in every possible way he could think of. The night was just going to get better and better. I would need help.

"Hey Alexis," I shouted throughout the battlefield. " Could you help me to deal with this Slumdog?" As I waited for her I tried to think how to deal with this guy. "Do you think you can make him staying in one place? I have a plan but I'll need your help." Suddenly the guy blinked right in front of me, maybe to give me a sucker punch. My reflex was quick enough to press my airhorn and I watched as the inmates was sent flying in a parabolic trajectory before he blinked once more to safety. "The faster the better Alexis!"

A grin took the place of Caleb's questioning face. "But it'll only take a bite" he said, smiling broadly because of his pun. "Anyway, Amir and Alexis, right? I'm Caleb. The food can wait for after we punch these guys in the face!" He had never quite agreed with his uncle's decision to resign from the United Champions, as punching bad guys repeatedly as a form of therapy and a deterrent to crime seemed great to him. Though he did wonder, looking at the ongoing battle happening all around him, did every student at Thomsen High have powers? Or maybe it had just been everyone who came to the party?

Amir seemed to be some sort of magician and was blasting inmates with magical attacks. But there seemed to be one that he was having trouble with, an inmate who was blinking away from his attacks. "I think I've got just the thing to trap him down, but we'll have to be quick. He had a couple of expanding jello cups in his stomach that would, if not stop the teleporter, impede him enough for them to get him. "Just, uh, don't be weirded out." Bending over a bit, out of Caleb's mouth came a couple of jello cups, which, strangely enough, had no trace of saliva on them despite clearly having been in his mouth just moments ago. Passing two to Alexis, he explained, "Just throw them at him and they'll expand to hopefully trap him and slow him down. I'll try and bring him in closer for you and Amir to hopefully hit him." Picking up a cupcake of his, he tapped it a couple of times, and then he was off with a speed that was far faster than what a normal human was capable of. He passed two more jello cups to Amir as he ran by and explained his plan. That left two jello cups for him, and he ran towards where the teleporter had just landed, with a mad grin on his face as he reached speeds near 100 miles per hour.

On Wonder Island

Nathan was prepared to use his full power, which he rarely ever had access to, on the man in front of him, who had, in Jason's eyes, become a pathetic opponent. Still, the man had tried to kill him multiple times, unaware of Nathan's abilities. Even Nathan hadn't known if he'd be able to heal such an injury. His revenge, however, was interrupted before it even started. A young kid, probably a few years younger than Nathan, flew in out of nowhere, his blonde hair flying in the wind. He kicked the giant electric leader in the face, which must have hurt a lot considering Roy's staff hit earlier. He knocked back two other super criminals, the fire guy and one other, with some sort of telekinetic force.

Nathan almost angrily told the guy off for depriving him of his revenge, before rethinking it. He had been ready to kill the man, and heroes didn't kill. Especially if he wanted to prove himself in the test. He begrudgingly prepared himself to team up with the guy, who had a name like Carter, but he beat him to it.

"Nathan, Roy, I don't feel like dying today, and I don't believe that you do either, so why don't we put the prisoners to bed. Not sexually."

He almost laughed at the sexual comment, but glanced back at Roy a couple yards away. He had been surrounded by three other normal criminals, from the looks of it, but the strange butler girl seemed to be helping him out. He wondered why she would stand up against superhumans, but she quickly showed him why as she used superspeed and what looked like superstrength to quickly and effortlessy defeat the three.

Nathan considered going to help when he felt another flame singe his hair. He turned around and watched in amazement as the Carter acrobatically flew out of the way, landing gracefully without so much as a stumble. Nathan's attention was soon brought to a gurgling scream to his far right. One of the prisoners squirmed on the floor, seeming tasered. Coming out from behind him was another guy, who he recognized as Red from school. Nathan tried to work out where the man in the red mask had gone, but decided to put it on hold and focus on the task at hand.

"Shall we?" the telekinetic, Carter asked, seemingly eager to get over with the fight.

Red walked up, also yearning for the fight to end. "After you, blowhard."

At that, Nathan actually laughed, failing at his attempt to hold it in. He cut it out after a moment, almost losing it again as he saw the expressions on the three prisoners' faces. They were fighting against some high schoolers, and they weren't already winning. They seemed a little shocked, a little confused, and a lotta angry. Advancing quickly.

"The tall one can shoot hot blue flames," Nathan started, clearing his throat and continuing louder. "The big one in the middle has some sort of electricity control. And then there's another big one, without the sparks. No clue what his deal is yet."

Nathan tensed his strengthened muscles, which was still quickly reducing his tank. He needed to find a new energy source, and soon. The flames and the electricity would definitely help, and he doubted they'd be much of a threat to him. But the one without revealed powers yet really worried him. In his mind, he imagined him duplicating himself into an army, or probing into his mind and controlling him.

Nathan decided to go for the electric guy, and leave Red and Carter to decide for themselves. As much as he wanted get revenge, he still wasn't eager to tangle with the flame guy again, even if he could heal his arm. He also didn't want to tangle with an unknown variable.

Just as he was ready to attack, however. a boy jumped between Nathan and Red, assaulting the electric guy until he stepped back a couple feet. Nathan was ready to protest—it seemed like nothing would go right for him in this fight—when he heard a blast and a loud, echoing crack right behind him. Another guy, holding a strangely carved lit up rod, was pointing it at a female prisoner, one of the regular ones, who had been trying to sneak up on Nathan and the others. Prepared to thank the kid, Nathan was surprised when he pointed the rod at another prisoner, and a green blast of energy shot forward from it. He was even more shocked when the prisoner disappeared and reappered next to the kid, who Nathan had recognized as Amir.

Leaving him to beat up the teleporter, Nathan turned back around to face his foes. He was reluctant to fight either of them, but decided to go for the big hulking beast that hadn't shown his powers yet, leaving the flaming maniac for Red and Carter. As he cautiously stepped forward, more careful after that happened last time, the convict smirked, punching one hand into the palm of the other and laughing as the earth wobbled with each punch. So that's what he had. Superstrength.

Delighted at his luck, Nathan completed the last few steps towards his enemy, his muscles still strong. His tank had been running on fumes from the effort of keeping Nathan at peak human capacity in all areas, and, if he was going to do something, he had to do it quick. Completing the last few steps, Nathan began the fight with an uppercut, launching his opponent five feet in the air. As the man fell to the ground in a heap of pure muscle, he grunted in pain. He gathered himself just in time to block Nathan's next punch with his forearm, driving Nathan to the ground. While he was still stunned, the criminal grabbed him by his collar and threw him what must've been ten feet away, aiming for the wall that Amir had previously thrown his female comrade at.

As he flew through the air, his tank finally gave out, and he felt his muscles weaken and his neurons slow down.

Knowing he'd probably die otherwise, he called out to Carter. "A little help here?"

Leo Furstewulfsæter
Kletterian Colonial City of Eisenwald/Iseholt, Germany

The H.B. Finanzturm (“Himmler and Bailee Financial Tower”) was one of the many symbols of Human-Kletterian cooperation in an new age of interstellar colonialism. At 70-stories high, the H.B. Finanzturm has recently finished its construction - another step in Human-Kletterian cooperation.

Built by German architect Maria Frühling Himmler (Human) and Verlinian/Lavarian civil engineer Erika Zweibaileedottir (Kletterian), the H.B. Finanzturm combined German gothic architecture with Verlinian art deco architecture - creating a new ‘Gotham-esque’ building like in NYC.

On the inside, however, the H.B. Finanzturm held onto its Kletterisn traits unlike its human exterior. Highly decorated in quartz and silver (delivered in high quantities from Dasan), the building’s interior rivaled the beauty of its US-counterpart, the Chrysler Building.

Man-sized statues of Kletterian business figures stood proud wherever there was an atrium or roundabout within the building. Like their human counterparts, the statues wore suits and ties; however, that was not to say they exemplified Germanic nationalism.

Every Kletterian statue - male and female alike - had a sash bearing the tricolor pattern of grey, black, and red - national colors of Verlinia. Also, the colors were also a coincidental commemoration of the German Empire on Earth - something that spurred German nationalism very quickly months after first contact.

Even if much of the city remained under construction, the H.B. Finanzturm would be the tallest building in Eisenwald/Iseholt until the city is completed. For now, a celebration at night was being held at the newly opened Human-Kletterian skyscraper. A very formal one indeed.

Leo was at the top of the tower, awaiting for his cue to begin his aerial performance. He was in his distinctive orange-grey jumpsuit and ÆFA equipment, along with his wingmen awaiting as well. Both Kletterian and Humans were among his wingmen as well.

The opening ceremony was being held down below, with a crowd drawn towards the ribbon yet to be cut apart. While the crowd consisted of only privileged Kletterians and their families, and the most powerful political figures (human and kletterian alike), it was going to be a show tonight...

Carter Graystone
"Science class paid off, for once."

Carter quickly surroundings. There were a couple telekinetics, an electromancer, pyromancer, some thugs and a super-strength guy. Against their little ragtag group of high school superhero-wannabes.

May the odds be never in their favor.

Suddenly, a thug jumped him and tackled him. They both went sprawling, as Carter struggled to gain ground, trying to dodge the tire iron the guy was wielding. He then sent up a big blast of air from the ground, tossing the thug back before Carter scrambled to his feet and sprinted full tackle at the guy, launching a kick into his face, breaking his nose.

That's when the second tire iron came.

The last thug had snuck up and taken a swing at Carter's head. Carter's enhanced reflexes couldn't dodge fast enough, so he did what he usually did when taken by surprise. Shield your head and create a wall of drag. Sure enough, in front of his eyes, he watched as the iron slowed down as it struck him in the head.

A throbbing pain entered his skull as he stumbled back slightly, piercing through like a hot nail. He felt jarred, shaken, like his whole skull had been shaken and cracked. Well, it was pretty shaken. Just not cracked. He grimaced as he ducked the second swing and dived for the thug's legs, knocking him to the ground, before Carter hopped to his feet and stomped on the thug's nose, also breaking. Jeez, it had already become his signature.

He then became aware of Nathan on the ground, calling for help. He took another flying leap to where Nathan was and executed his bold, genius, on-the-spot master plan.

"Hey, Nathan, you're an energy absorber, right? Well, wind has some kinetic energy in it, right? Yeah, I know, science class paid off, for once. Anyways, you may die, but that's alright. Hey Cass, what are the odds of Nathan dying if I do this?"

He then shot a blast of air propelling Nathan towards strength guy, in hopes that the wind would give him a boost. Fingers crossed, maybe.

Mars
Mars felt guilty about how nervous he clearly made Wyatt, and he knew his plan wasn't perfect by any means but they were clearly desperate. Most of them weren't used to their powers, and Mars only had what he had programmed into his phone and his wrist watch. He watched intently as as Wyatt jumped into the air, wanting to see how the convict would respond. Mars was shocked when Wyatt suddenly dropped back to the ground. However it was clear he wasn't dropped, he was forced to the ground. His eyes widened as he realized this man was a telekinetic, and he wasn't sure what to do about it.

He needed to do something however, as Wyatt called out to him asking for help. Mars thought about the limited capabilities he had. Bubble shield? No that wouldn't do them much good, especially not against telekinesis. Taser? It might be effective since this man seemed like a normal human outside his one power, but he would need to get close to him and that was clearly easier said than done. He kept going through the features of his phone and his watch like a checklist until he finally had an idea.

"Pepper-spray", he said under his breath, realizing that might be what he was looking for. If the telekinetic couldn't see, he would have a lot of trouble controlling people and objects. "He couldn't respond to Wyatt, because that would draw the convicts attention. He needed to hope Wyatt could hold on a few more moments. As the telekinetic shot rocks up into the air, Mars used the dust and debris as a cover to sneak close to the criminal. Mars brought his hand to his watch, hesitated for a moment before he steeled his nerves and pressed a small red button on the watch. He sprinted towards the man as he pressed, raising his arm high so that the spray was right in the man's face.

"SON OF A BITCH!" The man shouted, his hand waving towards Mars, sending him hard towards the ground before the escapee's hands went to his eyes in a nervous panic. Now that he wasn't using his powers, Mars saw and opportunity and tackled the man to the ground. "Wyatt! This uh, isn't really my thing. A little help?" He called out to his friend until Mars was pushed off and landed hard on the ground. Some of the rocks around Mars started to lift into the air, hanging menacingly over him. Mars reached for his watch but he wasn't sure if he'd reach it in time. Fear crossed his mind as the rocks began to fall, when suddenly a huge wall of ice appeared in front of him. The rocks smashed into it, but barely ended up chipping away at it.

The telekinetic looked confused, when suddenly a figure dressed in dark blue armor and cloak dropped down in front of him. She wore a mask, so Mars couldn't see her face, but her eyes and flowing blonde hair gave him a vague idea of her appearance. she had a fierce look on her face, as she landed in front of the psychic. She gave a bit of a glare at Mars and Wyatt as if she saw them as a nuisance. It was only a brief look before she turned back to her opponent, her batons in her hands.

The telekinetic still looked confident, and tried to push the stranger out back but she was too fast. She raised another ice wall, blocking his sight and kept moving so that wouldn't be able to lock onto her.

"Hey Dragon boy!" She shouted out to Wyatt. "I'll clear a path to him so you can close. Think you can take him out?" She said, and went on without waiting for his response. She kept raising small walls of ice and every time her opponent smashed them, the mysterious figure raised another one, every-time inching closer and closer to the target. Once she was right in front of him she'd stop, and hope the dragon boy would see his opportunity.

Roy
Roy had raised his staff, ready to take out the charging thugs, until Cass came running in, taking two of them out with one hit. Roy was concerned when she was hit with a tire iron, but it didn't seem to have much effect and Cass finished the fight off soon after that. He shook his head at Cass' apology. "No worries, I didn't really expect them to listen, besides, seems like people like the Mask ended up crashing the party anyway." He said sighing a bit. He scanned the battlefield, trying to get his barrings on what was going on. "Cass, I want you to keep your sensors and analytics running, let me know if anyone needs help or is in danger." He then turned to see the third thug Cass had taken down getting to his feet. Roy swung his staff at the charging man, taking out his feet before raising it back up instantly and slamming it into his stomach and sending the criminal to the ground for good this time. "For now, let's focus on clearing out the rest of the them. Seems like only some of them have powers. Let's deal with the ones that don't." With that motioned for her to follow as he ran towards a group of four convicts that were still mulling around in the melee.

One of them had grabbed a large pipe, probably from an old construction site around the island, and was fighting Roy staff for staff. Roy was clearly more skilled however, and knocked the pipe out of the man's hand. He slammed his weapon into the man's stomach, before landing a strong kick to his head, decisively knocking him out.

He was about to go after the next powerless thug, until he realized someone else had entered the fight. It was a someone in purple combat armor, using ice powers. Roy stepped back and took a defensive position to observe. It didn't take too long for him to realize who she was, and he groaned a bit. She was a vigilante known as Frost Bite, he didn't her know her identity, but he'd been warned about her when he came to the city. Valancy and others told him he might have to face down with her at some point. He certainly wasn't going to make that tonight. "Cass, Frost Bite is here. Keep an eye on her if you can. Don't let her get carried away. The last thing we need tonight is a vigilante putting someone in the morgue."

Wyatt hurt in places that definitely should not hurt. It shouldn't have taken nearly as much effort to get back onto his feet as it did, but he did. That power he felt welling up was gone, and he had no idea how to get it to come back. However, Mars and a girl who addressed him as Dragon Boy. It was better than being called lizard, but only marginally. Fortunately she seemed to be much more versed in the art of kicking ass than he was. Unfortunately she asked him to help. Being a superhero looked so much easier on TV and in comics. There, the heroes often fought through the pain and carried on with their job. On top of that they typically knew how to use their powers. Fighting through the pain was much harder than it sounded. How was he supposed to help?

It took him a second to realize that the whole reason the telekinetic man was screaming bloody murder was because Mars sprayed him with pepper spray. All he had to do was get the final blow. He didn't have the utmost confidence in his punching skills. However there was something else he was sure could work. A rock. Better than nothing! He grab a rock about the size of his fist and grit his teeth. Wyatt ran with as much strength as he could muster towards the man. He realized mid stride that hitting him full force in the head with a rock would probably kill him, so he decided to aim for his jaw. His father had tried to get Wyatt to learn how to fight. Wyatt declined, not seeing a need, but he did remember one piece of advice: A solid uppercut would knock out most normal people. Wyatt swung his rock upwards and cracked the man's jaw. There was a sickening crack that made him visibly wince when he heard it.

Yoshiro Nakama
Wonder Island, San Diego

Yoshiro danced in time to the music, a half-finished bottle of soda in her hand. The dance floor was packed with partygoers, each of them enjoying the rhythmic beat that pounded from the DJ’s speakers. Mouthing the words of the current song, Yoshiro felt the stress of junior year flowing out of her limbs. Amidst the gruelling gauntlet of tests, homework and applications, the party was a welcomed respite. Closing her eyes as she danced, Yoshiro focused on the beating pulse of the crowd. The sensation was like an additional sound behind the music, a bass that could be felt as much as heard. This was why the young girl loved parties like this, losing herself in the cauldron of revelry and laughter that was emanating from the crowd. People tended to cut loose, to let their guard down and open themselves up to one another. The result was a kaleidoscope of feeling and emotion that seemed to make the whole world just that little bit brighter.

As the track wound down and the DJ’s voice boomed out from his microphone, announcing a request for a slow dance, Yoshiro took the cue to step aside and catch a breather. Wearing a wide grin, she brushed her short hair out of her face. A few drops of sweat betrayed her physical exertion, and she breathed a bit heavily after dancing for so long. Placing her now empty bottle of soda aside, Yoshiro wasted no time in retrieving another from one of the coolers that were dotted around the large open building. At first she had had her reservations about the party’s location, but it did admittedly add a certain thrill.

Glancing around, Yoshiro sighed as the bottle-opener seemed to be nowhere to be found. With a smirk, she focused her attention on the bottle in her hand – the cap popping off of its own accord not a moment later. The girl’s smirk widened, treating the hiss of escaping gas as a trumpet declaring her victory. Only a few months ago, lifting even a pebble would have drained her strength. Look out world, Captain Bottle-Opener is here to save the day! Yoshiro supposed that was what High School was all about after all. She wondered if she’d miss it after another year.

Before she was able to follow the train of thought any further, Yoshiro felt the ground suddenly shift beneath her feet. It was almost imperceptible at first, and her eyes narrowed in confusion at the strange sensation until realisation struck her – and the crowd – all at once.

“EARTHQUAKE!”

Somewhere, someone yelled the dreaded word and the room descended into chaos. Years of boring drills forced Yoshiro into action as she dove under a nearby table – but the quickly dissipating shaking was the least of her immediate worries. Screaming partygoers raced for the exit as the DJ’s track skipped before the music abruptly cut out. There was a flash of light, adding to the confusion while disorienting some of those who were struggling to get out of the building. Acting instinctively, Yoshiro tried to throw up barriers around her mind – hastily constructed flood walls meant to stem the sudden tide of fear and panic that came washing over her. But she had meticulously removed her defences over the course of the party, lowering her guard and embracing the ebb and flow of the emotions around her. The sudden change of pace caught her completely off guard. Despite her best efforts, Yoshiro felt her grip tighten on the table’s legs – her knuckles turning white – while her pulse quickened.

Breathing deeply, Yoshiro closed her eyes and tried to regulate the movements of her lungs. She pictured herself being back at the Dojo, with Great Uncle Tokaji criticising her form while she struggled to meditate – the thought bringing the slightest of smile’s to the girl’s face as she tried to quell the panic rising in her chest. After a few seconds, Yoshiro felt the pounding of her heart begin to subside. Opening her eyes, she tried to regain her bearings. The room had emptied quickly, and only a few students remained in the main space after the shaking stopped. Yoshiro didn’t intend to stick around – if there was anything she’d learned in the repetitive warnings she’d heard about the next ‘Big One’, it was that the aftershocks could be worse than the initial earthquake.

Making her way to the exit, Yoshiro jogged until she had caught up to the body of students warily making their way out towards the parking lot. There was a hum of conversation as people tried to make sense of what had just happened, while others tried to dial their parents or a cab on their cell phones. Glancing over her shoulder, Yoshiro noticed that a group of students seemed to be sticking behind, gathering near a tree. She raised a curious eyebrow as a few of them displayed their powers, wondering what the strange group were intending to do.

“Yoshi!” The cry of relief took Yoshiro by surprise, and she turned to address the speaker.

“Sarah! What is happening? Do you think it could be an earthquake?” Yoshiro smiled as she turned to see her friend approaching through the crowd. She had originally come to the party with Sarah and a group of others, but had opted to stay on the dance floor when they had decided to explore the rest of the abandoned island. “Where are the others and – oh my God what happened to Jason?” Yoshiro’s tone turned to one of concern as she noticed the boy leaning on Sarah for support, his face twisted into a painful grimace. Stepping forward, Yoshiro tried to take some of his weight off of her friend, realising that the pair of them were covered in small cuts and scratches.

“We were checking out the tower when the shaking started. Jason and Mark had climbed to a higher level, b-but the floor just completely fell away beneath them – I think his leg might be broken.” Sarah’s voice was strained and tired from her nerves, and Yoshiro could see that she was frightened. She did her best to offer a comforting smile to her friend. Together, they gently lowered Jason to the ground – the boy wincing as a sharp pain shot up his leg.

“Hey, it’s ok. Keep an eye on Jason and call your parents to pick you up, I’ll go back and see if I can find Mark. Where did you last see him?”

Sniffling, Sarah forced an appreciative smile on her dust-stained features. “Right by the warehouse there was a hole in the wall, you can’t miss it. About a hundred feet or so from the entrance.”

Yoshiro nodded along with Sarah’s words, but surreptitiously reached out into the girl’s mind to try and retrace her steps. There was no way that she would have been able to find Mark with the vague directions from Sarah, she reasoned to herself while prying through her friend’s thoughts.

“Got it, hundred feet from the entrance. Can’t miss it.” Offering Sarah a confident smile, Yoshiro squeezed her friends hand before turning back towards the emptying warehouse. “No sweat, I’ll be back before your parents are even here!”

“Wait, Yoshi.” Jason called out to Yoshiro, who turned back to meet his concerned gaze. “Be careful, yeah?”

“Mark! Where are you?” Yoshiro called out into the empty lobby, cupping her hands around her mouth in an effort to get her voice to travel further. Vines and weeds had begun to overtake the interior of the old Wonder Warrior’s tower, but their logo was still eerily visible on the wall. The earthquake, while small, seemed to have been the last straw for some parts of the old, ill-maintained structure and Yoshiro could hear shattered glass cracking beneath her shoes as she walked.

Squinting in an effort to make out shapes in the poorly lit lobby, Yoshiro tried to listen for any hint of Mark’s mind. She thought that she could sense something, but it was still a bit faint for her to glean anything other than a general direction. With a determined expression, Yoshiro pressed on – still occasionally calling out Mark’s name. She stuck to the outer corridor of the ground level, reasoning that Sarah and the others wouldn’t have ventured any further without the moonlight to guide their way.

Sighing at the futility of her efforts, Yoshiro decided that it was time to try a different approach. Closing her eyes to try and stretch her senses out further, Yoshiro stepped slowly around the room she had just entered, her hands extended in case she ran into an unexpected wall. Sure enough, there was a faint pulse on the edge of her hearing.

Mark, is that you?

Yoshi? Oh man, am I glad to hear you! But, wait, I don’t hear you. How come you’re in my head?

Smiling with her eyes still closed, Yoshiro tried to figure out where Mark’s thoughts were coming from.

Oh, I’m just a figment of your imagination – pretty sweet that you can’t stop thinking about me. Sarah might get jealous though.

Oh ha ha, very funny. No shit though – you never said that you were a Super, that’s awesome!

Rolling her eyes, Yoshiro sighed at Mark’s sense of occasion.

Could we focus a bit here, please? Can you see where you are?

There was a brief pause. Yeah, I think so. I’m not sure how to describe it but – wait, are you reading my mind? That feels bloody weird.

Would you shut up and picture how you got there, okay?

Obliging, Mark’s thoughts seemed to focus on the competition he’d had with Jason while climbing to a higher level of the tower – right before the earthquake caused everything to collapse around them. Steadily, Yoshiro began to recognise landmarks as she walked quickly through the rooms, the sound of Mark’s mind growing louder and louder.

“Mark!” Her eyes lit up as she saw him smiling sheepishly, covered in dust and cuts on the floor.

“Hey Yoshi, man are you a sight for sore eyes. Help me out here, something’s got my leg pinned.”

Glancing down, Yoshiro saw a piece of rebar had fallen on the boy’s leg. She winced at the weird angle that his foot had been twisted into, knowing that he must have broken it in the fall like Jason. Placing her hands on either side of the block of concrete, Yoshiro gave it a strong heave and – with Mark’s help – she managed to remove it from his leg. Looking closely, she noticed a deep gash on Mark’s shin from the impact – but it didn’t look to her like there was much bleeding at the moment.

“Okay, I think you’re going to have some trouble walking – but I can’t carry all of your weight on my own.” Yoshiro tried to offer her friend a comforting smile along with a helping hand. He simply nodded in return, some of the colour having drained from his cheeks at the sight of his twisted foot. Grabbing onto Mark’s hand, Yoshiro pulled him to his feet before having him wrap an arm over her shoulders to distribute his weight. Together, they slowly hobbled towards the exit and the parking lot where all the students had gathered.

Yoshiro was quickly tiring as she helped carry Mark out of the Tower. Making a split-second decision, she opted to cut through the loading dock where the party had been held rather than go around. It was a more direct route and, seeing Mark’s state, the sooner she could get him to a car the better.

“Hey, hold on – we’re nearly there.” Yoshiro said encouragingly, giving Mark a slight shake in an effort to keep his mind aware of it surroundings. The effort of walking had reopened his wound, and he now had a trail of red liquid trickling down his leg. Worse still, Yoshiro could feel his consciousness steadily sleeping as exhaustion began to take its toll. “Just through the warehouse and –“

Yoshiro’s sentence was interrupted by a figure flying through the air in front of them slamming into a wall with a sickening crunch as a spider-web of cracks emanated out from the impact. Brushing aside her immediate shock, Yoshiro’s eyes widened as she noticed the orange jumpsuit that the now unconscious woman was wearing. What were prisoners doing on the island of all places? Her mind was suddenly filled with questions, wondering what exactly was going on.

Making up her mind, Yoshiro gently lowered mark against one of the empty crates in the dock. “I’m going to take a look ahead. I’ll be right back and we can keep on moving.”

Carefully stepping forward, Yoshiro quietly made her way further into the loading dock until – leaning out from behind a crate – she could see the dance platform itself. Her eyes widened at the sight that greeted her: figures in orange jumpsuits, some clearly with powers, were fighting a group of students and heroes. She struggled to keep track of all the different encounters that seemed to be going on at once, from the teleporter darting around his quarry to another man who seemed to be firing electricity from his hands. It looked like an actual battle, and Yoshiro found herself frozen in place as she struggled to think of what to do next.

“Well, well – what do we have here, a peeking Tom?”

Whipping her head around towards the sound of the voice, Yoshiro saw a man domineering over her. He was bald, and had the tattoo of a dragon creeping up his neck, while a sly grin spread across his features betrayed his feeling of confidence. He’d kept his distance when he’d first spied Yoshiro stealing a glance at the developing fight, but eventually concluded that she would have gotten involved if she was one of the powered freaks herself.

“This isn’t a safe place for no little girl.”

Backing away as the man cracked his knuckles, Yoshiro felt her heart beginning to pound in her chest again – except this time there was no crowd to influence her emotions. Doing her best to hide the shaking in her hands, she lifted her arms into an Aikido fighting stance, trying to look tough before the prisoner.

“Please, I just want to get out of here with my friend – I don’t want to fight.” Yoshiro cursed herself as her voice wavered slightly, but refused to look away from the prisoner. The man seemed to hesitate for a moment, wondering if he’d misjudged the highschooler before cracking a smirk and launching into a sudden punch.

Reacting, Yoshiro moved her open palm to redirect the blow while stepping outside of the prisoner’s path. The man’s momentum carried him forward, causing him to stumble slightly as the girl seemed to melt out of his way. Rather than discourage him, however, Yoshiro’s dodge seemed to only anger the man.

“If we were to sit down and talk about things, then I’m sure that we could – gah!” Yelling out in surprise, Yoshiro was clipped by the wide swing thrown by the prisoner – the blow catching her off balance and causing her to stumble. She managed to recover herself just in time to receive a flurry of punches, blocking the first few before one collided painfully with her shoulder. Letting out a yelp of pain, Yoshiro felt her arm go numb.

Doing what she could to put some more distance between herself and her opponent, Yoshiro felt her initial relief at facing an unpowered opponent slipping away. He was much stronger than her, and she suspected that he could laugh off even a punch with her full weight behind it. But it was also clear that she couldn’t just keep trying to avoid his attacks and hope to make it out unharmed. Feeling the malicious intent emanating from the prisoner’s mind, Yoshiro also realised that trying to reason with the man wasn’t an option either. That didn’t really leave her with many options.

“H – Help!” She cried out, hoping that someone friendly would hear.

While waiting for someone to answer her question, Kirisvala heard Wyatt's response to her compliment and giggled. "Thanks!" She replied, before noticing the arrival of yet another human boy, one that was carrying confections of some sort in a tray, 'cupcakes' he called them. When he asked if anyone would like to try one, she was tempted to reach out and grab one, but then came something far more demanding to grab her attention, namely the impressive display of fire breathing that was put on by Wyatt, by accident no less. She would have clapped a little, but suspected that perhaps that wasn't entirely appropiate at the present moment.

After the display was over, the group was approached by a woman in a strange outfit, who proceeded to tell them that it was dangerous to leave and that they should evacuate instead. The alien girl was still not quite sure why it was dangerous to be there, but in any case, she had already volunteered to help out and wasn't going to back out now. And yet, she didn't have it in herself to be rude to the other girl or respond to her in a stern manner, so it was very fortunate that she ran off suddenly, chasing some other student that had separated from the rest and charged towards a group of people in orange uniforms. Orange was a pretty color, but wasted on outfits as bland as those, she thought, not yet piecing together that they were the danger, as she was not yet too well acquainted with some parts of human culture.

Not long after the woman left, yet another person spoke up, a boy that she hadn't noticed standing there with the rest of them. Unlike the others, who were fairly humble due to their personality or inexperience, this one behaved quite arrogantly for some reason, which she didn't find very agreeable, though at least he was strong, going off of what he said, and she learned from him the name of the first boy who approached her, having missed it when Wyatt mentioned it earlier.

Either way, it seemed like they had amassed quite the team now, which was nice, especially in light of the ominous shout that ringed through the air afterwards, creeping her out. The odd girl definitely wasn't joking when she saaid it was dangerous, but it was too late to back down, and she didn't want to leave Mars and the others alone, so she followed them under the cover of darkness, listening to the plan and nodding in response. She wasn't sure about working with Casimir, but now wasn't the time to get picky. Plus, he sounded a lot less arrogant the second time around an she liked his plan, so that was nice.

As the boy jumped into action, Kirisvala watched somewhat nervously. He was holding his own quite nicely against the large brute, but it worried her that the inmate hadn't done anything with his lightning. It crackled all around his body even if it wasn't being used against Casimir, so it was apparent to the girl that he had power over it, so if he wasn't using it then surely he was saving it for a powerful attack? But now was not the time to worry about that, now was the time to act. As stealthily as she could, the alien girl maneuvered around the battlefield, positioning herself some distance behind the brute and waiting for her opportunity to act.

Said opportunity came soon enough, as Casimir shouted at her and then launched himself at the inmate with all of his strength. In response, Kirisvala began running a short distance towards the inmate, before using her claws and not her feet to propel herself the rest of the distance, moving at a very high speed as a result. Right before she crashed into the inmate, she stopped, planting her feet into the ground as firmly as she could to avoid moving forward any further and channeling all of her speed and strength into her left claw, which planted itself firmly in the electric giant's side; she would have gone for the back, but she feared causing excessive damage.

Flying a bit of distance away due to the sheer force of the scaled punch, the ex-prisoner fell to the ground with a loud noise, still alive and conscious but groaning in pain and seemingly out for the count. Kirisvala closed her eyes and sighed in relief, glad that the battle was over. However, when she opened her eyes, she saw the inmate discreetly charging a bolt of lightning in his hands while looking at Casimir. Alarmed, she ran to him. "Watch out!" She shouted just before reaching him, and stood between him and the inmate, her claws closed in front of her defensively. The bolt of lightning crashed against her scales, but where it would likely have disabled a regular human being, Kirisvala seemed mostly unaffected by it, her claw merely twitching a bit for a few seconds before stopping. Frustrated, the inmate shouted obscenities and continued hurling thunder at the pair, with the alien girl moving to block every bolt.

Alexis, too, eagerly followed Mars to what she was now pretty certain was an adventure, mentally running an inventory of what she had brought along to the party in case something bad happened. Fortunately for her, what few gadgets she had on her were fairly discreet: just a pair of sneakers and a pair of bracelets, both accessories that any teenage girl might have. And something had indeed gone wrong, judging by the ominous killer cry from earlier and the fact that there were people in orange jumpsuits walking around the island for some reason; thus, it was a good thing that she had brough something to defend herself, not to mention an excellent opportunity to test her gadgets in a battle situation.

When Mars told everyone to pick a buddy and jump into the fray while trying not to get separated, the blonde immediately looked to Amir, since he was the only one in the group that she had talked to that night before the party was crashed by an earthquake. However, by the time she looked at him, he was already running off, brandishing his stick like it was some sort of rifle... a rifle that could actually shoot bolts of multicolored light, as she soon found out. Mildly impressive it was, but she still sighed and then started running after him. She was a pretty good athlete, so catching up with him wouldn't take long. Or, at least, that was what she thought, before watching what was happening around Amir and realizing that he had picked a fight with an inmate who could teleport. Quite the nuisance indeed.

As Amir continued trying to shoot down the teleporter, Alexis decided to jump into action as well. Bending her knees, she reached down to touch small, nearly unnoticeable buttons on the sides of her sneakers, causing them to change their shape slightly, revealing various small thrusters on the backs and soles. And with that, she blasted off, quite literally, towards the teleporter, the thrusters on her sneakers giving her massive bursts of speed on command. Despite this, though, she remained unable to catch up to the teleporter, all while listening to Amir's demands for assistance.

"Easier said than done!" She shouted back at him. "I'm doing the best I can, but I'm not sure what you're expecting from me, I don't have any fancy powers!" She said as she continued attempting and failing to catch the teleporter. She stopped after a bit, noticing that Caleb had arrived nearby and was addressing her and Amir. The girl's expression turned into one of disgust when she saw him pull out jello cups from his mouth, but she took them anyway, opting to trust the boy when he said he could deal with the evil teleporter. She raised an eyebrow when he said the jello cups could trap him, but decided to give him the benefit of doubt and nodded, watching him take off very quickly.

Looking all around in an attempt to find the inmate, Alexis failed in this task as well, before suddenly perceiving something behind her, her enhanced senses aiding her in this. And just as she realized what was going on, everything slowed down, literally. It was not that she had any sort of power to slow down time or anything like that, but one of the benefits of having a processor much more powerful than a normal human brain was having bullet time practically on demand, and this allowed Alexis several vital moments to meditate on how to best avoid being knocked out by a fist to the back of the head, before eventually settling on a simple plan that she believed would be effective.

Hopping slightly off the ground, the blonde swung her foot forward, aided by her thrusters. The sheer momentum of this action caused her to turn a full 180 degrees in the air, ultimately kicking a very surprised teleporting inmate on the head and sending him tumbling to the ground. Alexis tried to follow up by throwing one of the jello cups at him, but the small moment of surprise at the fact that her gambit had worked was enough for the inmate to teleport away, now laying prone on the ground several feet away from her.

"Amir, Caleb, trap him now!" She shouted at her classmates, hoping to be done with the battle now.

Roy
While Roy had just finished giving orders to Cass, he heard a voice crying out in distress not to far from where the fight was happening. Roy quickly rushed over to sound, and saw one of the convicts standing over a girl a little younger than him. Roy didn't hesitate at all, he quickly charged up a blast of shadow energy, and slammed his fist into the convict's side, knocking him aside like a rag-doll. Roy usually didn't use his shadow powers on low level threats, but picking on defenseless people made him really angry. With the escaped convict unconscious and no longer a threat Roy turned his attention to the girl he had just rescued. She had a young, round face, with short brunette hair. Roy guessed she was 2 maybe 3 years younger than him? He didn't recognize her, but since he didn't go to Thomson High he hadn't recognized most people who had attended the party.

"Uh hi, I'm Roy." He said a little awkwardly, despite his charming and tough appearance these situations were always awkward for him. What were you supposed to say after saving someone? Roy also didn't bother with his hero name, that was really just for appearances, he never had the luxury of a secret identity, so he usually preferred to just go by Roy. "What are you still doing here?" Roy asked, more curious than judgmental. "Did you have trouble getting off the island?"

Yoshiro Nakama
Wonder Island Loading Dock, San Diego

The prisoner moved fast, clearly no stranger when it came to a fight. His fists were thrown with precision and intent, his footwork moving naturally to follow through with each delivered blow. When he’d been out on the streets, he’d been somebody: feared and respected in equal measures by his local gang – and then it had all been taken away in the blink of an eye. They’d locked him up and thrown away the key, said he was a ‘murderer’ and a ‘monster’, but he’d show them. He’d worked hard to keep his body in shape during his time in the slammer, and now he was looking forward to taking his anger out on the wider world once again. All of which made him increasingly irritated as Yoshiro dodged or parried each of his attacks.

Panting with the physical exertion of the fight, Yoshiro forced herself to keep focused and try not to get distracted by the prisoner’s personal monologue. He was acting on instinct, deciding on his next move mere moments before his brain sent the instructions to his muscles – giving her only the slightest head start to react. Keeping her open palms close to her chest, Yoshiro kept herself light on her feet, able to step and react to her opponent’s heavier movements. When necessary, she would thrust outwards with a palm, connecting with the prisoner’s arm and redirecting his strike so that it would brush her hair a mere inch from her face.

The fight was moving quickly, the girl just being able to hold her own but always finding herself on the back foot, each step taking her backward as she avoided another flurry of attacks. Yoshiro did her best to avoid the throbbing pain in her right arm, knowing that the bruise would be the least of her concerns if she let her guard down. But even if she could read her opponent’s mind, the fatigue was steadily slowing her down. Knowing where the next punch would come from wouldn’t do her any good if she didn’t have the strength to avoid it. Hardening her gaze, Yoshiro realised that she’d have to go on the offensive if she had any hope of making an escape.

For a few seconds more, she continued to parry and dodge the prisoner’s attacks – the man becoming increasingly wild and infuriated as he landed only the occasional glancing blow on the girl. Waiting for an opening, Yoshiro tried to listen for the man’s thoughts – looking for a weakness that would reveal itself far enough in advance for her to take advantage of it. There. He was going to feint a blow to her face before swinging low for her gut, trying to draw her defences away from her centre of mass. But, in the process he would be leaving his own head open for the briefest of moments. Steeling herself, Yoshiro waited for the prisoner to act.

It all happened in the space of a second. The feint was swung, and Yoshiro reacted at first to ensure that the prisoner followed through. But as he withdrew his fist, she made sure to carry forward with her momentum. Throwing her full weight behind her open palm, Yoshiro didn’t even bother to deflect the incoming blow, banking on her own strike catching the prisoner by surprise and knocking him off balance. It connected with a sickening crunch, the prisoner’s eyes widening in surprise as Yoshiro’s hand filled his vision before crashing into his nose. While she was light, the force behind Yoshiro’s strike was still enough to snap the man’s neck around, causing his body to follow as he stumbled a few steps backward.

The flow of the fight was halted as the prisoner blinked away the stars in his eyes, trying to figure out what happened through the sharp pain that was shooting through his nose. Yoshiro nervously kept up her guard, her eyes looking over the prisoner with an instinctive sense of concern, wondering if she’d maybe hit him a bit too hard.

“Sorry, are you ok – “

“Fucking BITCH!” The man turned back, the fury burning in his eyes causing Yoshiro’s words to get stuck in her throat. A streak of blood coated his features, the red liquid having fountained out of his clearly broken nose. His mind was a hurricane of pain and rage, his vision clouded of everything except the prospect of exacting revenge on the girl before him. Fear gripped Yoshiro, as she took a tentative step back – ready for whatever may come next.

That was when the masked figure darted in from the side, delivering a sudden, brutal blow to the bloodied prisoner and taking Yoshiro completely by surprise. The force of the impact sent the man flying through the air, his mind unconscious even before he hit the ground with a solid thud. As she overcame her own astonishment at the turn of events, Yoshiro’s jaw dropped.

“You’re – you’re…”

“Uh hi, I’m Roy.” The young man tried to put on a friendly smile, his tone of voice a bit sheepish and uncertain. Yoshiro was still in a state of shock and recovery, struggling to believe that the Nightshade was standing right in front of her. That the Nightshade had just saved her. That he’d just spoken to her! Her mouth opened and closed like a goldfish, her vocal chords trying to form words while her brain remained in a puddle of mush after meeting the celebrity.

Say something you ditz.

“Umm, sorry – I didn’t mean to get in the way. I came back for my friend and that guy got the jump on me.” She half mumbled her words, feeling a sense of embarrassment at having needed to call out for help like she did. She imagined that she’d probably pulled Nightshade away from something far more important. “I think I’ve got it from here, do your friends need your help?”

Mike Matthews

‘By far the second worst party I’ve ever been to’
Mike thought to himself as he pressed himself against a wall. Until now, things had been going pretty well. He got his parents to agree to him heading out, raided one of the soda containers with a few friends, even tried dancing for a bit. But of course, the moment he leaves to find a bathroom, the whole world starts shaking. When the first tremor hit Mike had been unlucky enough to be exploring the centre tower of Wonder Island, making matters worse was how he had made it halfway up in search of a toilet without an endless line. As the ground started shaking, the first thing to go was the ground beneath his feet, in an instant Mike had found himself hitting the ground of the floor below with a solid thud. The whole thing understandably left him in a complete state of confusion, surprise and more than a little pain. As he felt the new floor begin to buckle though, he forced his body into action and rolled to the nearest wall. It wasn’t much but he hoped that the floor would be a little better supported and more resistant against any aftershocks. But as Mike waited, he soon began to realise that no other tremors would come.

He hadn’t ever been in an earthquake before, but he had been taught that earthquakes were always followed by aftershocks. While carefully getting to his feet Mike tried to remember what he was meant to do in these situations ‘something about doors maybe? Or was it walls? Ah screw it, I’m just getting on solid ground’ he figured. After straightening up, Mike began to feel nearly a dozen different pains across his back, but with a small irritated sigh he resisted the urge to stretch and started his slow walk towards the stairs. For all he knew the floor was still one wrong shift away from giving in. A few minutes later he had gotten nearly halfway down and had started to move a bit more naturally. It hadn’t been much but Mike found himself taking several detours, trying his best to make sure he wasn’t leaving anyone he could be helping. Of course, his first plan was to stay until the next tremor hit but for whatever reason, none came - although the occasional distant thudding could be heard. As Mike cautiously made his way over another largely cracked area, he tried to keep his focus on his situation. ‘There had to be any number of reasons why this was happening’ he thought. Maybe the earthquake just happened to break a support or two, he could’ve just been unlucky or emergency services could already have been there But as he heard another distant thud, Mike couldn’t help but worry. It wasn’t until he finally made it to the exit did he realise just how bad the situation was. The whole island seemed to be in a state of chaos, the centre of the pandemonium being a small group of people wearing unmistakable orange jumpsuits and another group of students trying to fight them. Adding to the chaos was the number of people desperately trying to escape. Without hesitation Mike took a step forward, ready to jump head first into the fray. But before he could, a stray thought hit him and without losing another moment Mike took off at a sprint towards the back of the island.

Ever since he was 5, his parents had been overprotective and while it had toned down a little bit over the years, he was never let out without a panic button. Mike being Mike though, had dumped it in his rucksack next to the dance floor. As he made his way across he managed to catch sight of an orange jumpsuit sent flying by some black mask hero moving in to protect someone. For a second he felt tempted to stop and offer help but forced himself to leave the rescuing to the stranger and focus on getting more help. ‘Only a few more meters’ he thought as he finally saw his backpack. Then as he continued to close the distance he finally dropped a knee and slid into his rucksack, at the same time he heard an unmistakably adult voice call out to him. The threat in his tone was clear and while Mike couldn’t make out the words he recognised the danger. But for now he had one goal in mind as he scrambled through his possessions. Sure enough, there it was, nothing glamorous but a simple grey and yellow cylinder that he always carried with him. As he took it out he suddenly became aware of the sound of heavy footsteps moving towards him. In the next moment, he pushed two small buttons on the cylinder then twisted the top half round until the sound of a satisfying click rang out before making a quick grab for an empty cola bottles and turning just in time to narrowly avoid the convict’s grasp.

“I told you to drop it” the man snarled, evidently aware of the panic button’s nature. “Okay, new plan kid. You’re gonna give me your jacket and we’re going to walk out of here and never see each other again”. Unlike some of the other prisoners, Mike realised this one didn’t join in on the fighting, and while there could be any number of reasons, Mike suspected that he was likely lacking any real offensive powers. Something about him looking somewhere between a state of panic and rage just gave him a feeling, it would also explain why he was hiding by the dance floor instead of forcing his way out. And while Mike would love any excuse to not be here, he knew leaving with an unknown, unstable inmate wasn’t a good option, powered or not. So as if to answer the man’s question, Mike lowered his stance flipped the empty bottle in his hand and brandished it like a club all the while desperately resisting the urge to say “let’s dance” next to the dance floor.

“You do realise that’s a soda bottle?” the inmate asked, clearly unimpressed. For him the day had already been a blur of non-stop chaos. First, a wave of inmates suddenly gets powers, then, all hell breaks loose, the biggest, most one sided riot he had ever seen. And while he had somehow managed to sneak away with a group of prisoners, when freedom was only a few minutes away, some idiots blew it. Now here he was, surrounded by a damned superhuman brawl while an idiot kid stood against him with a bottle of pop in his hand. Finally reaching his limit he just ignored the boy’s stance and moved forward to grab him, forget supers, forget the others and forget fighting, he was getting out. It was then however that the defenceless boy before him ducked under his lunge and swung the bottle into the side of his head. Expecting it to harmlessly bounce off, the man didn’t so much as flinch as the plastic drew near. As it hit though, a solid thud rang out and the man was sent reeling. In the next instant another merciless blow landed against his head, and in an act of desperation, he finally threw up his arms to try and block a potential third blow. But as his vision began to clear, a third blow did make contact, but not to the head. Instead it hit square between the now exposed legs. Stunned with pain and shock, the man fell to his knees wordlessly. His brain still trying to register what was happening. As he looked up he was able to make out the figure of the boy, now at eye level, as he swung the bottle once more with all his force and sent it straight into the inmate’s temple, sending him deep into unconsciousness.

Breathing heavily, Mike slumped against a nearby wall. It wasn’t much but he already was beginning to feel dizzy as his heart continued to race. Truthfully though, it was as much from fear as exertion. As it was, that shouldn’t have worked as well as it did. Any one in a million things could have gone wrong, the inmate could have had powers, he could’ve counter attacked, hell if he was smart enough to try and block the first blow it could have gone differently. All in all, he had probably made one of the stupidest choices by standing and fighting head on, and yet, here he was. Slumped against a wall above an unconscious convict armed with nothing but a bottle of pop and a giant, stupid grin stuck on his face.

Wendy had no idea why she was running to fight with the others. Even in her old life she’d never been one to use her fists. After all despite what Hollywood said, punching security systems rarely caused them to stop working. She wasn’t even sure she’d be any good in a fight… especially against convicted killers with super powers. Even worse, she was fairly certain no one else in the group, Mars included, had much in the way of combat experience either.

Still she charged into the fray… and quickly found herself separated from the others as the fight turned into a feral brawl. Alone she soon found herself confronted by one of the inmates. The man easily had at least a foot in size and more then fifty pounds of pure muscle on her, a mismatch if there ever was one. His greasy black hair was slicked back, which only seemed to make the grin on his face look even more wicked.

Hastily grabbing a small tree branch from off the ground, Wendy swung it at him. If she had been hoping for a knockout hit she was badly mistaken as the con caught her improvised weapon with ease. With the flick of the wrist, Wendy went flying several feet in the air before coming down on her back hard. Ignoring the screaming pain in her back and stars in her eyes, Wendy pushed herself back on her feet.

"Y-your not human are you?" She asked, fear creeping into her voice as she did so.

"Noticed huh." The man replied. For the first time Wendy noticed his right eye shined an unnatural red. “Well… I should say I’m not entirely human. Cybernetic augmentations, the best the black market had to offer.”

For the first time tonight, Wendy smiles. Cybernetics meant electronics and computers, both of which she could control. Wendy seemed to freeze in fright, like a deer in a set of headlights. Sensing an opening the con charged, intent to finish her off. Had his cybernetics actually had a security system worth the money spent on them, he might have had a chance to actually do so. As it was he found himself frozen mid strike, his body refusing to heed his commands.

“Someone… Help,” He heard Wendy scream. “I can’t stop him from overriding his cybernetics for long.”
