What is the Christmas food in your nation?

Postby Vallermoore » Wed Dec 20, 2017 2:54 pm

Here in Vallermoore the most common Christmas food for humans is turkey, potatoes, brussels sprouts and Christmas pudding. Most sapient ponies prefer nuts, sweets and bread, whilst Changelings break out the rare varieties of love if they can afford it, and feed on the love of Christmas if they can't. The richest changeling Queens have Decepticon love, but few can afford that as it is near impossible to get.

The usual Christmas food in Gandoor is roasted ham served with sweetcorn and brown rice. Accompanying these are fried potato slices, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage soup. Dessert is traditionally 'Christmas bread', a sweet bread sold only during the holiday season that is topped with cream cheese and ground cinnamon.

For beverages, those of drinking age will usually have wine with their food and those under drinking age will have 'American sweet', a sweetened rice milk so called because one of the kanji for rice, 米, can be read as 'amerika'.

It should be noted that pork isn't widely consumed outside of the holiday season here, so the Christmas roast ham holds a special place in the minds (and stomachs) of Gandoorese citizens.

The DGES does not consume food, but it would have been turkey, ham, stuffing, cranberry sauce, chicken, sausage, sake, rum, and any kind of tea.

Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and enough gravy to drown a man. Drinks include eggnog, cider, and beer. Dessert is often some form of pie; pumpkin, Apple, cherry, hell, even pepper.

As we're a secular nation consisting of Norse Pagans and Catholic Christians, we celebrate Christmas and Yule at the same time with similar customs, just with emphasis on whatever religion the host family celebrates. This warrants similar celebration meals for both occasions.

Roasted reindeer as the main course
Boiled potatoes, carrots, and turnips as vegetable dishes
A variety of cheese, herring, shellfish, and cold cuts as sides
Mead as the primary beverage

A delicious ham is usually made for dinner, often topped or sided with cheese, spices, and/or sauces. Hatterleigh is quite famous for it's delicious holiday pastries, which were first made hundreds of years ago by monasteries. On Christmas night, cake and milk are left out for St. Nick to eat.

For those of drinking age(18 over here), a mango-based alcoholic drink is common instead of wine. Many Christmas dinners will be roasted whole trout, edible palm tree leaves, and vegetables. For dessert, it will usually be snow angel ice cream, a ivory white ice cream made from Glandavian Winter Cloudberries, which are ivory white, instead of Amber like most cloudberries.
