Alright just came back from watching The Last Jedi.

Really liked it, few things i didnt, but overall really enjoyed it, solid watch imo.

Ill note some bullet points about highlights/some stuff i really liked, a few wtf things and stuff i particularly didnt like as i could not be assed to do a big drawn out post at the moment, bit tired and still a bit sick.

GOODIES

-Mark Hamill was awesome, really enjoyed his scenes, especially the more dramatic scenes such as the back-flash scenes about him almost killing Ben when he saw how deep the dark side was entrenched him (or at least how deep luke saw it). He also gave me a few laughs too such as the "Reach out" scene and when he just tosses the saber over his back like "fuck off". Luke's death i thought was handled well personally, i liked his toying with Ren to buy time for resistance dudes to escape, that whole scene between him and Ren was cool. Also liked the lessons and view point about the jedi and their past mistakes he was trying to teach to Rey as well, liked their scenes together and i could get what he was going for.

-Space battle scenes at the start were class with the dreadnought and the rebel bomber vessels (reminded me a lot of something like an allied bombing run out of ww2), as was the suicide ram by Holdo against the Supremacy and half a dozen star destroyers, it was fucking neat. The chase with the remnants of the resistance forces i thought was cool too and the resistance ships slowly dropping off one by one due to lack of fuel (though wouldnt momentum keep pushing them forward for a good bit anyway? But i get what they were going for)

-The Kylo Ren and Rey battle against Snokes elite guard was fucking class, sooo cool and after seeing them in action my view on his guards went from "eh" to "fucking cool", really liked them. Though unfortunate we didnt see another saber on saber battle.

-Ren not flipping to the light side and instead trying to manipulate rey to joining him as a co ruler of a new order i liked. Im glad he did not flip over to the light as it was something i was torn over about since TFA and his killing of Han Solo, so im glad he didnt. I like that he killed Snoke to usurp his position of power and is now set up as the main bad guy of the trilogy.

-Yoda! Oh my i had no idea how much i missed him till he popped up there when Luke went to torch the jedi texts.

-Battle of crait was nice, obviously a bit similar to Hoth but i enjoyed it, thought crait was a cool looking place with the salt flats and the red underneath and the design of the rebel base and the skimmers now that i saw them in action. Wish it was a bit longer though, and could have just skipped out the mini death star laser thing, just blast open the doors with the AT-ATs and AT-M8's and have storm troopers storm the trenches and fight the resistance troopers up close.

WTF-IES

-The Leia scene after what i thought was her death... yeah that was... weird. I get that it she has the force and is sensitive etc but yeah... that was.. weird. I would have just had her maybe survive on the bridge and not get sucked out into space, maybe use the force to create a bubble around her there.. or just kill her.. i thought it was actually a bit shocking for her to die that quickly and i honestly thought it would have worked well if she just.. died there

-Milking the quad tit manatee whale thing and downing a pint of green quad tit alien milk with Luke... yeah that was... not needed thanks.

BADDIES

-Snoke was really underused, i like the scenes he was in, a lot. Thought Andy was doing a cracking job, but.. then he just dies.. which was a bummer though it was nice to see Ren just fucking take him out, but would have liked to see him be developed a bit more. Originally i thought that maybe he was not actually dead given how fucked up Snoke is i was wondering, oh maybe he will survive, maybe he knows how to restore life in a fashion ala dareth pelagius but i dont think that is what they will go with when it was Hux looking over his body like "yup.. fucking dead son" and we just.. didnt learn anything about him other than him being.. well the bad guy who is.. bad and has a fucked up face.

-Canto Bight. Eh.. just.. felt the movie could have cut this entire arc out, honestly just felt like the whole movie stopped when it went here. I get what they were going with in regards to the arms selling, how both sides can benefit from it and it gets the rich richer whilst all the pleb storm troopers and rebel fights die across the galaxy, which i liked.. but honestly this whole segment felt off.. and just like a giant "Hey dont be dicks to animals" advertisement for the RSPCA except... IN SPACE.

-Rose. Well.. i liked her, but to follow up from Canto Bight, i just felt like that because she was mainly in that arc that it kind of ruined her character. Thought it would have been better for her to be the hacker character they needed and just went straight to trying to trying to disable the tracker. Or maybe have Toro as a rebel soldier like that who works with her and he acts as the hacker that way. Thought that would have been better for her character. Also her romance with Finn was... eh.. kind of unneeded as well.

-Phasma... yeah just.. her fight scene was cool.. for like all 30 seconds it lasted and then well.. she died... or maybe not again? I dont know?

tbh I've been reading all/most the spoilered stuff in the other thread and this, and the movie still doesn't feel spoiled for me. I'll have to watch it myself. XP

They made one of the oldest tropes in existence a literal mechanic of how the Force functions. Lmao. Just about the laziest storytelling I've ever encountered.

Has anyone else at least read some of the old X-Wing Rogue Squadron comics? I have fond memories of checking out hardback collections from the public library.

Just got back from the cinema. It's half midnight here, and I want to trawl the threads so I don't just repeat what everyone else has said. Hopefully a little distance will temper my opinion of the film too, because if I talk about it now, I will gush to a frankly embarrassing degree.
