We start this rapid update with a series of developments in Varshanka; The newly incorporated northern territories of the former-province, while under the Landstreitkräfte occupation, were hit by a series of minor terrorist actions this week. Jannik itself has become heavily divided, with local Cardinal supporters and Arevar* Milizsoldaten clashing with numerous Weiße protestors. This culminated in a twin bombing effort that, while both failures, left several hundred civilians injured.

The issues expanded with a minor insurgency by heavily armed Rebel group known as the “Vorhut” that was formed shortly after the capture of the members of the Jannik High-Command. Heavily armed Vorhut members attempted to take back a Kardinalarmee weapons compound, and set an ambush for a Military Convoy moving through the Ërhorst Highlands on the Western-side of the mountains.

Protest movements have been becoming more and more frequent as of late with the increase in Kardinal troops in Varshanka and the implementation of Commonwealth Laws within the Frontier territory. These protest movements have made the implementation and delegation of necessary construction and Humanitarian supplies increasingly difficult, and the mobilization of numerous former-business owners has made the collectivization of the captured territories nearly impossible.

However, the Weiße supporters are not alone in the streets of the new territory, as many have begun to clash with Cardinal-Supporters leading to oftentimes violent altercations. Recent altercations included Arevar Insurrectionaries forcibly seizing a Varshanka industrial complex, and several ‘Private’ Workers Unions exiling former business and land-owners upon failing to comply with newly implemented Collectivization and Cooperativization-laws

Foreign Affairs Ministry begins formalizing Vvardeni relations

KUNTA, ONZA - Diplomats who have been working with Vvardeni officials over the course of the past two weeks were pleased to announce this morning that they are finally prepared to formalize Onzaian-Vvardeni relations.

The process of establishing relations was remarkably quick, and was perhaps galvanized by the Onzaian offer of counter-terrorism support in the wake of an attack earlier this week that resulted in the death of over 40. The provisions of the relations include the following:

A trade agreement
An extradition treaty
A non-aggression pact
A research agreement on an unspecified project
The opening of an embassy in the Vvardeni capital

The move is expected to pave the way for even warmer relations between the Rennekkan nation and the UDE. "The Vvardeni people are kindhearted and levelheaded," the team of diplomats said in a statement they released. "The fact that these agreements were made so rapidly is indicative of our like mindedness as nations."

AL-KHATIN ISLAND, ONZA - On the heels of the completion of the Vvardeni diplomatic mission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it would be dispatching similar teams with similar goals to neighboring Arabekhi nations Agathusa and the Babaran Isles.

"Our proximity to these nations has resulted in amicable relations insofar, but we are confident that the presence of diplomats can accelerate progress to even stronger relations," said a ministry spokesperson. "The diplomatic teams are expected to take anywhere from a week to a month to nail down a set of agreements before reporting back to us for the Presidents approval."

The announcement was OKed by Vice President Desta Tendai in the absence of Xolani Kojo, who is currently in Torden visiting with Aquidish leadership. Tendai reportedly spoke with the President briefly on the phone to secure permission to dispatch the teams to the Arabekhi nations as well.

"Through a web of diplomacy, we will have more power to defuse violent situations like the one in Aramas more efficiently," the spokesperson said. "We are excited to continue in the pursuit of this goal by seeking to formalize relations with the other civilized nations of the world."

The Minister of Foreign Affairs steps down
Michal Schrunk, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, resigned on Friday night. Schrunk, a previous Midphalian Army General, has released no statement yet. Schrunk's policies have brought Midphalia closer to Kovakia, San Feliz, Cuirpthe, and Vvarden as well as maintaining a positive relationship with Volgaria. In a press statement by the President, the Chancellor has discussed the terms of his resignations and has approved for his deputy minister to replace Schrunk.

Schrunk's policies of 'realpolitik' was unpopular with the Bundestag, causing calls for Schrunk to step down last year. The heir, who has assumed the posistion already, Michal's deputy minister, Werner Trautman, a ex-singer gone politician, differs from Michal's policies of realpolitik.

Seven dead after Calderon Cartel attacks Vicario's rivals

Calderon is once again in shock after gunmen from the Calderon Cartel struck again, inciting a gunfight with members of the Communist Party of San Feliz and leaving six politicians and bodyguards dead. The incident happened in the middle of the afternoon as members of the Party were heading to Calderon’s downtown district for an economic meeting with some of the nation’s farmers and mining unions. The goal of the meeting was to encourage cooperation between these groups and the Communist Party, rather than the other factions that would like to control the national industries. Before the group of politicians could arrive, they would come under fire by hidden members of the Calderon Cartel, who sprung an ambush based on the predicted path that the group would take.

The gunmen were armed with automatic rifles and at least one heavy machine gun, which was set up by the side of the road and used to disable the first SUV in the convoy of three. The convoy would also run over an IED, which destroyed the front right tire of the lead SUV before the gunmen attacked, stopping the progress of the convoy and allowing the cartel members to surround the party members and their bodyguards. The attack would come quickly and brutally as the masked gunmen looked to inflict damage quickly before moving on to avoid being captured and identified. The initial onslaught would see five bodyguards killed, and two party members killed by the machine guns. A third party member would climb out of the lead SUV, but would be saved by a sixth bodyguard who put himself in the line of fire to get the party member behind cover. Afterwards, when the third SUV emptied out and the gunmen found themselves outnumbered, the gunmen fled the scene.

The Calderon City Police believe that the Cartel forces were under the command of Sebastian Arias, one of the top enforcers of the Calderon Cartel and a supposed ally of President Rose Vicario, who allegedly struck a deal with the Calderon Cartel to protect herself from rival factions of the party. The majority of the members of the party that were headed to the meeting at the time of the attack were from the more hardline ‘revolutionary’ wing of the Communist Party, direct rivals of the more liberal Vicaro, who has been under fire by other elements of the party for her more modern policy and her desire to work with the various factions of San Feliz rather than opposing them and enforcing the state’s authority. The Communist Party of San Feliz has not released a statement at this time revealing the names of the deceased.

Altanjin Veçuyev Khan has today touched down in the capital city of Transcandar, Sinop, in regard to ongoing talks between our two nations over the expansion of existing free trade deals. Veçuyev Khan was greeted by Temür II this morning in a well-publicised meeting. This meeting follows ongoing speculation about further growth on the deals between the two nations, including the possibility of a common external tariff and customs union.

This meeting will mark the first meeting between the two heads of states since the 2017 Volghari election, wherein Veçuyev Khan was returned in a landslide.

The media were able to briefly question the two leaders before they retired to speak in private.

A former Norh Volghari Bureacract, Aagh Teren, has been murdered in Petersholm, Rhuritania. Teren, who fled the country following the re-unification war, is believed to have assumed a false identity, one of Varagh Ukhaal, as a refugee and made his life as a banker in Petersholm. Teren is believed to be among hundreds of North Volghari politicians and statesmen who fled from the falling Republic to avoid military tribunals and trials.

Teren himself has been linked to the series of ethnic purges that the Republic held against the Xhentsu people, where he kept books and records for the National Census Committee. The External Police Force has confirmed that they had suspicions about the identity of Teren, but were waiting on further proof before they made a request for extradition by the government of Rhuritania.

The murderer has been identified as Resak Akahi, a Xhentsu man with possible links to the Xhentsu nationalist group Brotherhood.
The External Police Force has denied to comment on the status of Brotherhood, the possibility that the name and location of Teren was leaked, or on further North Volghari statesmen living abroad…

The changes would herald an end to more than 300 years of Transcandarian constitutional tradition under which the Crown passed to the oldest male heir.

However, there is a faction of landed aristocrats within the House of Peers criticizing the action. One describes it as "the slow destruction of our ancient customs and rights." However a majority of the elected officials within the National Diet have criticized such comments and have supported the Prince in his actions. Many in the Diet believe this is an easy way of strengthening the government and easing the currently ambiguous situation in the case of succession.
Governer-General Kâzım Orbay said the historic laws were "at odds with the modern country that we have become, and that it guarantees the succession for decades to come."

The bill is expected to pass in the next few days. To a relieved Royal Family.

Okina - The Queen spent the day in Okina today after expanding the Federation Protected Marine Reserve Law, which creates the largest fully protected marine reserve in the Great Jade Ocean. With Friday's action, Ajerrin has protected more than 88,000 square miles of maritime land which demonstrates the strength of the conservation agenda still seen on the Queen's docket.

The move will provide added protections for deep-sea coral reefs and other marine ecosystems that administration officials say are among “the most vulnerable” to the effects of a growing population and climate change on Aeia. The areas contain “significant objects of scientific interest that are part of this highly pristine deep sea and open ocean ecosystem with unique biodiversity,” according to the Federal Marine Reserve Protection Law. All commercial extraction activities, including fishing and future deep-sea mining, will be prohibited in the expanded monument area. However, recreational fishing, removal of resources for traditional Hawaiian cultural purposes and scientific research will be allowed with a federal permit.

"Ajerrin has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to environmental conservation,” the Queen said today. “We have a responsibility to make sure our children and their families have the same ocean to enjoy it the same way we have - not to be abused, but to preserve and utilize."

The move is a scaled-back version of an even more ambitious plan the Council had floated last month, but failed by a slight margin.

The plan now creates a fifty-mile circle around the Golden and Kristin Islands south of the Kawanaka Island chain in Okina, and expands the protectorate's water around the Federal Territory of Akua Ka Hale by twice as much. The Uporu Islands of Erin'a, The Pohakulua Islands of Endik'i and Reeds Reef between Nakana, Tu'ova, and Puina Islands in Wilele Kuahiwi have also been granted Federal Marine Reserve Protection status.

While many of the islands in the new law are uninhabited, Ajerrin Tuna operators and some officials have opposed the expansion on the grounds that the law could make it more difficult to catch tuna and other species at certain times of the year. Fish caught in the area around The Uporu Islands account for up to 8 percent of the annual Ajerrin tuna catch in the northern parts of the nation, according to the Phew Marine Trust.

But scientists and conservationists who have lobbied for the bigger protection status argue that these vessels can catch tuna outside the protected zone and that it provides shelter not only for 130 underwater mountains that serve as hot spots for biodiversity but for nearly three dozen species of marine mammals, five types of threatened sea turtles, and a variety of sharks and other predatory fish species.

Tolana Na'apuli, who leads the Phew Marine Trust Global Ocean Legacy Project, said that because more other nations are considering creating new protected areas in the Great Jade Ocean, “This could be the wave that ultimately propels those marine reserves to become a reality.”

Senate hearing underway for future of intelligence agencies

KUNTA, ONZA - A bipartisan hearing on the necessity of intelligence agencies in Onza commenced today with its first panel. Director of National Intelligence Salah al-Din Zaman was summoned to testify in the first of several panels scheduled throughout the weekend and into next week.

The hearing was called when evidence in the wake of the 19 August attacks revealed that an Onzaian double agent within the OVI apparently worked to aid the Saraibian terrorists responsible for the attack.

"It is high time that these lawless agencies be brought within the oversight of the Onzaian people through Congress," Senator Shamil Sayyid of the Liberal Party said at the time. "There is simply no good reason why we are continuing to allow these agencies to operate without restriction and without accountability."

In the wake of the damaging revelations, OVI Director Shakil Nkemdilim resigned after submitting a public apology. "I must apologize for inability to put a stop to this horrific act before it happened," he said at the time.

Rahim Pretorius -- the presumed VP nominee for President-nominee Mustapha Ihejirika -- has been among the most vocal of advocates for reform of the oversight pertaining to the intelligence community. Pretorius is expected to use his platform as Vice President to push the envelope for reform even further.

"If I had it my way, these agencies would either be totally regulated or totally eliminated," Pretorius said in the past when discussing the issue. "Intelligence gathering is important, but for it to go on unregulated is simply granting too much power to people who have little to no accountability," he said.

Intelligence agencies in the nation have been the subject of controversy since their inception. Although they trace their roots back to the Onzaian policy of strict-observation during the age of exploration, the agencies weren't formalized until the early 20th century. Today, they exist to gather intelligence that may impact Onzaian national security. They are technically under the oversight of the President, although this has been the main point of criticism for Congressmen who have targeted the agencies for years.

"If the President isn't going to exercise an appropriate degree of control, then somebody who will needs to be given the reigns," said Senator Sayyid. "I won't go as far as to pin this travesty on President Kojo, but I am disappointed that his administration hasn't invoked their power of audit even once during his two terms."

Today Nadelküstian elites honored Wissa - a feminine deity of early winter, dread and survival in the Mondscheinvegen pantheon. The Vorhut, or Vanguard, are an Ultra right-wing Royalistic terrorist organization formed recently after the capture of Kommandant Alheiste of the Vizekönigreich Vize-imperiale Streitkräfte. The Vorhut themselves demand that Kardinal forces release Jannik from occupation, while instating Eadaion Holtman, a Baron and nephew of the previous Vizekönig van Alten X, to the Royal throne of Ovandera.

The boy himself is only 15 years of age, being made Heir to the throne after the death of his cousin, Joseph von Ürtzvig und van Alten, and has himself alongside his Heerführer, attempted numerous times to hold a dialogue with the Kardinalarmee before the offensive on Jannik to end the war. Kommissar Gabriele Abelkis responded by declaring Holtman a “Volksfeind”, the equivalent to “Enemy of the State” in other countries. After the fall of Jannik to Kardinal forces, the Prinz fled, but with the formation of the Vorhut, he has grown increasingly vocal.

Again in Varshanka, a major rally in the city of Goßetz took place in support of a rising ideology in the territory. Known as Varzayism, it is a radical, militant, and oftentimes violent ideology that while similar in theory to traditional Communist Ideologies, calls for Homogeny of global cultures, and in the more radical sense, the obliteration thereof. Varzayism sees natural human sectarianism as a threat to the Communist ideal, and as such was met by harsh criticism from both the Ratskanzler and several notable Party Members.

I am truly horrified by the emergence of this thought process, the fundamental point of Communism is to empower and enhance our cultural uniqueness, the point is to spur on a Renaissance of new ideas. Speaker Romltrius Galrith Tilvi adressed the crowds today in a large rally held in Serenohi, which has long been struggling with high crime rates and unemployment, calling for the restoration of the Venerable Empire and for Vvarden to become a power in Rennekka once again. Serenohi is a hotspot for Tilvi's ideas, ever since the Provisional Government's plans to rebuild and reincorporate the region to the rest of Vvarden failed catastrophically, now creating a divide between the south of Vvarden and the rest of the country. Monarchist groups in Vvarden are still a force to be reckoned with despite the success of the Kommunidaro Vvardeni Paarti and the Dri Dren Sathialms Paarti, and some experts have opinionated that now both sides have campaigned for a powerful Vvarden without a monarchy, that the Erevondi Paarti and the Bondras Nalondis Paarti, both staunchly monarchist, will instead throw their weight towards the Grand Speaker, himself the candidate for the return of a monarchy.

Senate Agrees To Onzaian Deal

What do we see on the news about this oligarchy of ours? Violence, clashes between groups intent on seizing power, the police trying and failing to crack down on paramilitary groups. Some fear it will spill out of the shadows. Some have said it already has. Some districts have already reported infighting. The fact is, the enemy, the far-left and the far-right groups that are destabilizing Vvarden and threatening civil war are better organised and better equipped than our own government. Add in the terrorism by those Saadalnimic extremists, and we have the cocktail for what seems to be a very, very bitter drink to swallow. I accept that our government is trying the best it can, but under the circumstances, the best is not good enough. Perhaps it is time, time to detach ourselves from our hopes of a representative government and succumb to those using violence to achieve their goals. The media is dishonest, after all, not every piece of violence is being reported nowadays. After all, if the government cannot provide for it's people, why should we support it?

Because it is the right thing to do. A balance is needed. A fragile balance, nevertheless, but a balance. Unity must be maintained. We need to turn away from the DDSP and the KVP and support the moderate parties, the parties of centrism, of centre-left and centre-right, the social democrats, the liberals, the libertarians. These are the parties that Vvarden needs, not violence. But even as my words leave this page I am still so unsure. The Grand Speaker has planned negotiations to resolve the clashes in the streets, and I for one hope that he will bring peace. After all, he is of the Emperor's line, and if the descendant of the Venerable cannot, then none of us can.

Castle Lachenstein captured after 5 months of siege, Tiransturmm driven out of Duchy Cravornicht

Reiksgard forces have finally breached Castle Lacehnstein, a fortress of the Tiransturmm, a militant tiranian group, which had plagued Cravornicht for a decade, and have now been defeated. After five months of Siege the Castle's Inner sanctum was breached by B Kompany, in the Waffen-Relsguard 4th Sturmregiment, when they blew down a heavily fortified gate in the south wing of the Castle. However this victory came with terrible casualties. Kompany B lost 34 men and dozens more wounded. Kolonel Von Naevichter, head of the Waffenreiksgard's 4th Sturmregiment, released a statement shortly after midday. "The men that sacrificed their lives for the stability and glory of their country, will always be remembered and honored for their bravery and their service to the Konig and Kountry." A notable scene of heroism occured when Tiransturmm troops surrounded a small group of frontal soldiers who were about to breach the palace. While the small group of troops were entrenched, Korporal Adolf Eastmann threw a grenade and dashed to the door of the long hall. If he had't opened that door the entire breach would have been comrpomised. Eastmann was awarded the Iron Cross for his courage. In other news, the Tiransturmm have been completely driven out of the Duchy of Cravornicht, and Oberstgenral Von Weiznacker believes the war will end within six months.

The right-wing, populist, anti-immigration and anti-Asura Hergemoth National Party are expected to gain a large share of the vote in the general election next week. With the decline in support for the SPD, it's evident that the PHN will be taking at least 15% and a dozen or more MPs or Representatives. TERRORISM FUNDING SCANDAL IN VVARDEN

Multiple government officials have come under fire due to allegations of supporting Vvardeni sepratist movements in Schaadalnim. Burggraaf Floris van Nijmegen Schonegevel, Mininisters Hendrik Craandijk and Juw Dijxhoorn-Raeddeg, Markies Godevaert Van Weede van Dijkveld, and Burgomeisters Gillis de Boer and Folcbald Hynder have been linked to supporting the Vvardeni terrorist group Schaadalnim des Vondrasland. This group has claimed responsibilities for numerous acts of terror in Vvarden, such as the recent Saadalnimburi Central Station attack that claimed the lives of twenty-seven Vvardenis.

His Royal Majesty, King Franz V, gave a speech today regarding the accused government officials, denouncing them as "traitors to realm for attempting to sabotage relations with our neighbours and friends." Leader of homosexual terrorist group responsible for attack in Constantia sentenced to death.

The Royal Supreme Court of Volgaria sentenced Jonas Goedde, who was identified as being the leader of the homosexual terrorist group that committed the bombing and mass shooting in Constantia nearly 8 months ago to death by firing squad. Although pleading innocent, the Royal Court found substantial evidence that linked him to the execution of the attack including text messages, videos, audio samples and most importantly other arrested members that admitted to him being the true mastermind behind the barbaric attack.

Many in Volgaria rejoiced over the ruling of the Royal Court and saw this as a rightful act of justice for those affected by the attacks. His majesty was also reported as saying in a speech shortly after the decision "This is truly a good day for our nation, we not only celebrate the justice served to this waste of human space, but we remember and continue to keep in our hearts the victims of the brutal attack that affected all of our lives." the King of Rohst, Franz van Klint also made a statement in a radio-broadcast in which he said "I would like to congratulate the Volgarian government and people for capturing this degenerate before he and his disgusting group committed more atrocities, potentially against the Rohstian people."

The terror attack was the largest in Volgarian history, killing 77 and injuring 121 with a combination of both explosive and firearm strikes. an large-scale nation-wide investigation followed by martial law were in effect less than 4 hours after the attack. Only a week after the attack, 3 men were identified as having links to the group and were arrested. From there however, the investigation went cold, as authorities were unable to gather any more evidence leading to the identification of those involved with the attack. Fortunately in October the case re-opened when a mobile-phone was discovered hidden away in a recently abandoned household that contained the crucial audio and text evidence used to identify many other members including Goedde himself.

While many of the group's high-ranking members have faced justice, there are some that speculate the group may still be active and could be planning a comeback. Right now however, Volgaria and her people can rest safe and sound.

Protests in Rhyzevskygrad grow as police attempt to regain control of the city

Earlier this morning protesters took to the streets in Khitrostkev Square to protest political mismanagement on the part of the United Workers Revolutionary Socialist Party and Chairman of the Party Frol Tikhonov. Starting at around 11:47 am a group of nearly 5,000 protestors marched into Khitrostkev Square near the old royal palace now used to hold the State Council. The people assembled were there to express their grievances ranging from the failure of the rationing system to cries for democracy. Protestors were met with the use of water cannons using a dibenzoxazepine addative to incapacitate protestors. By 12:37 pm members of the Emergency Response and Civil Containment Group (GRChSGS or the Grazhsder) had entered the area as protestors start to become agitated.

At 1:47 pm the number of protestors in the city ballooned to 39,000 and GRChSGS operatives created a line of control blocking off the east and north sections of the Square to protect the Green House from being over run by protestors. Speblut members also evacuated the Green House and sent councilors home or to temporary housing. Only a kilometer away stood the Executive officer where Head of State Dragoslav Afanasyev ordered members of Internal Troops to be sent to the area around the square to set up defensive perimeters and to restrict the flow of peoples in the street. He also activated the Internal Passport system, legal masking anyone on the streets subject to searches from law enforcement and military personnel, civilians can only enter and exit important areas if they have their Internal Passport, and anyone coughs without proper documentation is subject to detainment. Head of State Afanasyev called these measures "neccisary" stating "We need to stop these protests as soon as possible, and return to a state of normalcy."

Vynozhian Democratic Opposition Flag

At 4:56 pm more protestors had arrived, many supposedly sneaking in and burning their Internal Passports in protest. Many also flew the flag of the Vynozhian Opposition, currently banned by the government and punishable by up to a year in prison for "flaunting subversive symbols and paraphernalia." Just hours hours later the first signs of serious unrest showed. GRChSGS members geared up in riot armor and PBF gas masks, using automatic grenade launchers they flung CR Gas (dibenzoxazepine) aerosol canisters into the group of protestors numbering roughly 75,000 at this point. Using similar tactics to that implored by Speblut operatives earlier this week in Zabalkanskygrad.

At around 9:12 pm GRChSGS resorted using rubber bullets and continued use of CR Gas. However by 11:20 pm the two groups had stabilized and the GRChSGS had gained enough room for a security barrier with the help of Internal Troops. As of 1:34 am it was reported that the Internal have been

using military helicopters with internal troops armed with AMV-12's (specially designed low velocity fully automatic rifles used for shooting rubber bullets.) and we're currently circling the Square in 30 minute intervals. They would fire volleys of rubber bellets at protestors who would get to close to the security zone established earlier in the day.

Leading Vynozhian exile Maxim Ragozin discussed the events with reporter Kiril Vunitov "we are hoping the extensive use of heavy handed force by the current Socialist regime will show the world how despotic they are. The people sing for democratic change and they are met with water canon and rubber bullets, how much longer until it's real bullets? I think now is time for Tikhonov to resign and allow the populace to decide the fate of Vynozhia, it is their nation and thus their choice. We can not let the socialist elites control us any longer." He told Vunitov in a length interview.

Frol Tikhonov gave the state controlled media a statement on the matter "we are looking to end these pseudoliberty activist from destroying the city any further. We can not continue like this and we need to end this before they harm Vynozhian society as a whole. " his statement was suppose to be followed by a statement from Head of State Dragoslav Afanasyev and Defense Minister Aleksandr Yulitov, but both declined to give stammers on the matter as they both were heading to a retreat in central vynozhia to conduct state business in private. Tikhonov has said he will stay in the capital until as he put it "rule of law is restored".

Current reports estimate that nearly 148,000 protestors are in the streets of the capital while nearly 30,000 police and military assets are being allocated to riot control.

Twelve Die In Mining Accident

A mining accident in the Lesser Hlaaral
mountains just north of the city of Serenohi
has claimed the lives of twelve people.
The accident occurred due to a fault in
one of the ventilation shafts, causing the
miners to choke and asphyxiate. The
blockage was cleared within ten minutes,
saving the lives of up to thirty more
miners at the Damorom Iron Mine, but
for those unlucky twelve, it was far too
late. Unionists within Vvarden have
spoken as to the unsafe procedures used
in the Damorom mining complex, and
are now campaigning to improve the
safety and the condition of the workers.

Grand Speaker Makes Statement Towards Volgaria

Responding to the terrorist attack in Volgaria which claimed the lives of 77 people two months ago, and the subsequent arrest of the mastermind involved, the Grand Speaker has made an impassioned speech to the Senate today, decrying the Volgarian government for allowing the conditions in which the yet unnamed terrorist group made solely of gay people to exist. The Grand Speaker has also condemned the attackers, stating that they have "turned away from the path of peaceful campaigning, which is an unfortunate byproduct of the treatment of gay people in Volgaria". He has also offered to help the Volgarian government in order to end their discriminatory practices in the same manner as a deal he recently offered to Newrey a week ago in the wake of a lynching, and has stated that anyone that has a connection to this terrorist group in Vvarden will be caught and given justice, however, he has been vague as to the nature of that justice.

A section of the speech he made this morning is as follows:

...We must not condemn those that have lost their lives in the attack, nor their families and friends for that would be cruel and unjust. Instead we should lay blame on the Volgarian government who allowed such conditions to occur, who by their oppressive and immoral actions against LGBT people have made an enemy of their own people. Protests have been shot at, activists murdered, so it is only natural that those terrorists see violence as the only answer. But this is not the way. Violence makes violence, a self repeating circle. I beseech the Volgarian government to take amnesty, to close the camps, to end the widespread practice of conversion therapy. It is not too late to make peace.

I regret that such violence had occurred, and I promise to the Volgarian government that any terrorists possibly fleeing to Vvarden will be imprisoned for the innocent murder of civilians. However, for any legitimate refugees fleeing the possible backlash against the gay community in Volgaria as a result of this attack, you are welcome here.

Vvardeni Ambassador to Rohst Thanks Rohstian Government For Arresting Officials

Ambassador Wedekind Von Rotenburg (Also known as Wedaithrim Rotonil), the current ambassador to Rohst, has thanked the government of Rohst today for their response and their new stance on the Schaadalnim des Vondrasland, in the wake of the recent uncovering of connections between several high profile politicians and high ranking members of that group. The Ambassador has also made several possible dealings in response to the recent arrests, including a non-aggression pact and a joint intelligence taskforce in order to combat the Schaadalnim des Vondrasland group.

Despite this, paranoia is rife in some areas of both Rohst and Vvarden, he stated today, as both sides have a small degree of mistrust from one another, based on the fallout during Ineyan Samaendas' years. Despite this, Wedekind has campaigned for closer ties between the two nations, and hopes in the future for them to be allies.

The Encircled Nation

Vvarden, at it's very core, is an encircled nation. It is surrounded by Almanns to the north, west, and even the south, and by other possibly harmful nations to the east. Some say within the Senate that we have nothing to fear from being encircled, and that we are not trapped in a prison with no room to expand, to breathe. Myself and many like minded compatriots and loyal followers of the DDSP believe this to be false, and that we are indeed an encircled nation.

Throughout the history of Vvarden, we have slowly been shrinking. From the Venerable Empire's fall at the hands of the Almanns, and their subjugation and colonisation of what is now rightfully Vvardeni Saadalnim, to today, where we stand, an united strong Vvarden to face any nearby threats. Ever since the fall from our throne we have been surrounded by treacherous wolves waiting to grab a bite out of us, which can be seen in the annexation of Upper Saadalnim, and the invasion of the Coastal Strip. Even now, Rohstian officials conspire, trying to grab our precious Saadalnim from us. We cannot survive without it, so it is now that we must rise up and call with defiant voices "No further!". Now is the time that we must consolidate ourselves, make ourselves strong again, and mighty again, so that we may face the Almanns again when they are at their weakest. There is no doubt about it. We must do this to survive. Everything must be done to make Vvarden survive.

The current Grand Speaker, a man who speaks too much and acts too little, will soon be facing election. And then, at that time, will us loyal Vvardeni pledge our votes, our lives, our land and our future to the one person who can, and will make Vvarden be like it once was, Romltrius Galrith Tilvi.

Starting today the known Royalist group known as the “Vorhut” or “Vanguard” have maintained a stable presence in the North-Könixren wildlands. The group was formed after the surrender of the Varshanka Provisional Government in wake of the Kardinal victory in Jannik. The Group has attempted to nullify the order to Surrender and has led to activity in Ochën and northern Varshanka in the Valheimer regions. Like other Royalist groups in the newly acquired Varshanka territory, the Vorhut demand the reinsertion of the Monarchy, which has been ignored to the greatest extent possible by the Party and Ratskanzler.

However this ended today after word of a potential Nadelküsten civilian news group traveling by land to the Commonwealth. This sparked an immediate response by the Party who formally requested the Nadelküsten Government to ask the group to enter the Commonwealth by Air or to wait for a Kardinalarmee accompaniment. For those that don’t know, the Vorhut currently control the territory connecting the Commonwealth with Nadelküste, and while the Kardinal offensive into the territory has made travel possible, neither side —Kardinal nor Vorhut— maintain dominance. Secondly today, the twin island territories of the Commonwealth, the Island of Oshtvaße, apart of Alorenstadt, and the Lien-inseln, of Schweisein, have both unanimously called for Commune-status. Either is apart of one of the pre-existing mainland Communes but calls for increased-autonomy have gone relatively unchallenged. In general, the only controversy is how the action will be carried out, wether the two territories will conjoin into one Commune or into two separate zones. The Vote itself is set for next week and will be followed immediately by Inner-Party involvement in order to fully form an official Communal Council for both or either of the Islands, with the Inner-Party expressing hope that this transition will give the Commonwealth Experience in the addition or changing of territory, especially in the wake of the Varshanka Acquisition.

In other news, the three communes of Alorenstadt, Särgahn, and Könixren have all begun importing and exporting goods and services to Asura. While this comes as a surprise to nobody, it shows the fervor the Ovan People are having for major contact with the Outside World. The move has been already pushed to its limit by Alorenstadt, whose Party officials have expressed excitement at the general acceptance, at least on a private level, by the western-asuran states, and hopes increased activity will aid in the natural rebuilding process of the Communes.

In this instance, a majority of the official Alorenstadt Workers Syndicates were dissolved by popular-vote, instead transferring their power to both the Communes local-Party and individual Cooperatives.

This has followed a recent rise in Communist support, especially in Alorenstadt and Könixren, with disapproval of the non-party Syndicates in these regions growing unprecedentedly. However these changes have proven difficult, with the Syndicates already having widespread economic support from Schweisein and Särgahn, meaning they’ve become heavily ingrained in the Politics and Economics of the Commonwealth, making their change or removal difficult.

In International news, the Party has followed suit in response to actions in Rennekka, with a heavy condemnation of the Volgarian "Homosexual Terrorist Group", decrying its move to commit violence towards the individual citizens of Volgaria. Like with Vvarden, the Party continues its longstanding Condemnation of Voglaria for its "Inhumane, Barbaric, and Backwards policies", especially towards the LGBTQ Community.

The Party has also spoken out against actions taking place in Vynozhia as the State begins using hightened police force in response to peaceful demonstrations. The OSVKP has made it expressely clear that it will not support a state that harms its own citizens when they call for change, and it expresses horror at the idea of a Socialist state using centralized authority to harm the very people it should be fighting for. Party member Oaldan van Hurtz has gone so far as to describe the situation as "The utmost representation of Hypocrisy."

Finally, the Foreign Affairs Division has commended Onza for it's succession of Power into a new Presidency, stating that it is "Proud of the states legal succession of Power, regardless of it's economic Hierarchy."

This morning in Noraidh, police rushed to the scenes to respond to reports of a supposed pipebomb in the known almannic neighborhood of Mionheit. Almannic have long been a minority in Cuirpthe, especially in the northern regions.

The large Kovak population in the region have held dissent to the westerners since their first appearance in Cuirpthe, and tension in the region has existed for years. Investigating the site, police came to the smoldering Saorise Club, an almannic exclusive society in western Noraidh. An undetonated pipe bomb was found, as well as clear evidence of two more that had already gone off.

Police have begun a mass search, and Kovak Supremacists are suspected to have committed the crime. Witnesses on the scene were able to provide reporters with public responses to the crime.
Quinn Weber, a Kovak resident in Noraidh, had this to say:

"I think it serves those westerners right. For centuries this land has been rightfully Kovak, and this is most likely the a sign of more to come."

Weber is a known Kovak Supremacist and a supporter of the Kovak Equality Party, which holds the minority in the Cuirpthean Lower House. Similar terrorist attacks have happened in the last few months, most notably a mass parade of Kovaks protesting Almannic migration to the region.

Newly elected Prime Minister Sean Berger has only been in office for two months, and already a corruption scandal is emerging. His accusers claim that he sabotaged the national election, slandering his opponents and rigging the results of the final vote. Popular alternative media site Malartach reports on leaked conversations between Berger and high ranking officials tied to his campaign. The recording says:

...and I know I'm going to win this election. With the work we've done, there is absolutely no way we could lose. The votes are ours, and if not, we'll make them ours by any means necessary.

Prime Minister Berger and his officials have refused to comment on the recording or the accusations.

First three months in office sees Progressives make progress in key areas

review his government's legislative activity over the past three months

LOTRIČ - The Progressive Alliance under the leadership of Melcion Portas have made considerable legislative progress after only three months in government. After securing an overall majority in Parliament, Midrasia's first since 2005, the government has taken a clinical approach towards its legislative agenda, ensuring key reforms and bills succeeded within both the Assembly and Senate. Speaking earlier today to journalists, Prime Minister Melcion Portas stated that he was 'proud' of the progress his government has made over the latter months of 2017. Despite this, Portas pointed out that the road ahead will be tough. 'There will be many challenges ahead' the Prime Minister said. However, he added that he was 'cautiously optimistic' that his government could continue its strong streak.

Speaking in an interview earlier today about his government's achievements, Mr Portas stated that he is 'thrilled' that his government was able to achieve to much in such little time. 'It has been amazing. Incredibly stressful, but amazing'. The Prime Minister put his success down to his parliamentary majority his electoral alliance achieved in September. Within merely three months, the Progressive Alliance has successfully passed reforms: legalising same-sex marriage and eliminating the requirement for sterilisation in gender reassignment; increasing funding for local education authorities; reforming the role of speaker within Parliament and is currently in final stages of passing the military reform bill which is set to cut military expenditure by increasing in-house production of equipment. Speaking on these achievements, the Prime Minister stated that his proudest achievement so far would be his reform to gender and marriage law. 'Those reforms give dignity to those who have been denied it for so long', the Portas stated. 'Midrasia now joins the collective of nations in committing itself to full gender and sexual equality'.

Nevertheless, it was not all smiles from the Prime Minister, looking forward to the future, Mr Portas stated that it will be challenging for the Progressives to remain in their powerful position. Indeed, rumours within the party suggest that some Social Democrat MPs are disaffected with Portas as leader and may consider defecting back to the PSD following the election of a new party leader within early 2018. Furthermore, members of the Green Party are concerned that Portas is looking to greater integrate members of the electoral alliance into a sole political party, a move they suggest would be detrimental to their advocacy for environmental issues. Furthermore, the Prime Minister has stated that the Military Reform Bill, currently under consideration within Parliament was timetabled to be passed by mid-December. A small consideration however, for such a successful three months.

Nevertheless, the Prime Minister's government has been able to pass a considerable number of reforms within such a small period of time, setting a record for the modern age. Whether the Progressives will be able to keep up this form within the new year however, remains to be seen.

The results of the ongoing conversations between the Volghari and Transcandarian governments have today been revealed to the media. Following the Khan’s visit to Sinop and the mounting publicity abound the discussions being held with the Transcandarian king and other officials within the Transcandarian government, the Khan and the First Minister have today held a joint press conference.

Approval ratings for the National Party in the southern regions of the country have sky-rocketed since the announcement, particularly in the Khanates bordering Transcandar. The Xhengh Khanate in particular, with its large Transcandarian minority, have touted the deal as a welcome one.

It was a chill and misty winter morning. "Staatsgrenze: 5km" read a sign on a winding mountain road which seemed to be almost completely devoid of traffic. Its old asphalt pavement was in truly dire condition. We passed another sign "Richtgeschwindigkeit: 70 km/h". Taking into consideration the omnipresence of potholes, this is perhaps one of the incredibly rare instances in which a recommended speed limit seems unreasonably high. We were heading for the only land border crossing with Ovandera open to civilian traffic - Westliches Valheimertal in Nadelküste. Following a sharp corner, an excessively large border guard building emerged on the road. It seemed to remember distant, pre-revolution times when crossings between the two Rohstian colonies used to be very busy. Two tall, blonde officers dressed in reflective uniforms waved red traffic wands at our vehicles. "Guten Morgen, Nadelküstische Grenzsoldat" - one of them greeted us, subsequently asking for our passports and vehicle documentation.

We handed it over immediately, yet not quickly enough for everyone that had been on duty at the station not to manage to gather and watch the extraordinary scene. It shouldn't be surprising as we were, after all, about to enter a war zone in shiny civilian cars registered to the Michelsbrücker Zentrum. After a very cursory document check that lasted about thirty seconds they inquired whether we are aware that we are leaving the Commonwealth of Nadelküste for the Commonwealth of Ovandera and possess documentation required to pass the neighboring state's customs. At that point customs had not existed for almost three years, which made the whole question nonsensically amusing. Nevertheless, we still had to answer it in order to be let through. We chuckled, but the officer looked weirdly serious - just like a typical martinet. After receiving an affirmative answer he, quite reluctantly, instructed us not to stop in the border area and to contact domestic border guard immediately in case we encounter any problems. "Up to make the headlines, huh? You Michelsbrückers never fail to astound me. Take care out there." - the officer remarked after he had returned our documents. As we were driving away numerous officers were gazing at us with curiosity, perhaps even slight disbelief. There we were, heading for the state that had explicitly warned us not to enter it by land without accompaniment of their Kardinalarmee. Playing with fire for the sake of free-press ideals. Hence the name of this storytelling article series, I guess.

Our camera crew felt incredibly eerie driving through no-man's land. The road became completely empty. Silence was disturbed only by wind and local airborne wildlife. A scene reminiscent only of apocalyptic movie productions. To think that just the preceding day I had been in Michelsbrück... genuinely unbelievable. We had been climbing higher and higher up the Valheimer mountain range when, suddenly, a rusty sign saying "Staatsgrenze: Autonomes Ovanitsches Vizekönigreich und Großprovinz des Almannisches Königreich" and an abandoned border authority building appeared. It was completely deserted and we drove through without any interference.

We were in Ovandera. Yet this was not the sort of Ovandera we expected to see. Omnipresent emptiness and ruin engulfed us. There were no shots fired or dramatic fighting scenes. One could attribute this to the fact we had literally just crossed the border, but everything looked frozen in time. We were mesmerized by the stunning scenery as we were carefully driving through the disputed territory of Northern Könixren. According to Ovan sources, Vorhut insurgents were supposed to be in active combat with governmental Kardinalarmee forces and Rosenwache militias. From where we were at that point, we were unable to tell whether that was true and the situation was as dire as it was portrayed, but we braced ourselves for the imminent interaction with some sort of military groups.

Deities of chaos did not fail us - a camouflaged man holidng an assault rifle made us jump with awe as he greeeted our vehicles with a halting gesture after we had just gone through a corner. He was large and powerful, his posture was that of a true warrior. Other armed men in uniforms showed up to reinforce him as he approached our window. "Guten Morgen, I can see you are the famed Nadelküstian journalist group that is heading for Ovandera. We need to have a serious conversation..."

The 21st of December, the winter solstice, is the national holiday of Juledag in the Crylantian Federation. Families across Crylante gather to celebrate; the festival is a celebration of social connections and family. While this might seem quite traditional, a celebration of family values, it is worth noting that a family takes many forms in modern Crylante.

Isolaprugnan elections: government slightly increases majority.

In the Isolaprugnan midterms yesterday, the ruling Party for Social Justice expanded its majority from 57 out of 101 seats to 62 out of 101 seats. President Amatore, who was absent for the campaign trail due to the Costapunente Summit, took to Chirper to express her joy at the result; tweeting "Thank you Isolaprugna." soon after the results were announced.

The geolibertarian Radical Movement saw a decrease in its amount of seats, decreasing from 25 seats to 17, while the Alydian People's Party and the Indigenous Rights Party stayed at 12 seats and 7 seats, respectively. The Communist Party of Isolaprugna gained two seats, in a shock result, and the Social Democratic Front, a more moderate left party, won one seat.

REFUGEES SHOT ON VELEAZ BORDER

Perpignan, Midrasia - Tensions between Midrasia and Veleaz reached a new high today after it was revealed that two refugees were shot by the Veleazan military whilst attempting to cross the border into Midrasia. The incident took place at 2am this morning when a family of three attempted to flee the Communist dictatorship into Midrasia. The family included one mother in her mid thirties and two children, a boy of seven and a girl of fifteen. During their attempted escape border guards spotted the family attempting to scale the Appian Wall. Whilst the fifteen year old daughter was able to climb over the mother and son where shot dead by Veleazan authorities. This is not the first time that refugees have been shot attempting to flee to Midrasia, however the nature of this incident has resulted in new tensions between the two states. The issue at hand concerns the shooting dead of the seven year old boy. Whilst the mother was shot on the Veleazan side of the border, Midrasian authorities assert that the boy who was shot whilst at the top of the wall was on Midrasian soil at the time of his shooting. The body of the boy also fell onto the Midrasian side following the incident, where he was immediately declared dead. The girl who had successfully crossed was taken into Midrasian care and custody as is standard procedure with Veleazan refugees.

The Appian Wall, officially the Anti-Communist Barrier, itself was constructed by Midrasia in the early 1940s under the auspices of the National Coalition government. Whilst initially the wall served as a defensive frontier and obstruction to prevent Veleazan spies crossing the border, today the barrier is mostly utilised by Veleazan authorities to prevent illegal migration into Midrasia. Whilst in recent years a number of Midrasian political parties have called for the dismantling of the wall, renewed tensions in the 1980s along with Veleaz's construction of military outposts around the wall has seen it remain in place. Despite this, Midrasian border guards have made renewed efforts to accommodate Veleazan migrants attempting to cross over. Regular surveillance is used within the area and a number of protest groups use the site to launch information leaflets, USBs and radios across the border. The Midrasian government itself does not endorse Veleazan migration saying that doing so would lead to a huge number of avoidable deaths due to the response of the Veleazan military.

Following the incident in question, several shots were exchanged across the border by a number of patrol guards, however the situation died down around 4am. Nether state issued an official declaration of war. Prime Minister Melcion Portas described the situation as 'despicable' calling it 'yet another at of brutality by the despotic regime of Tolvas'. When speaking to Parliament earlier today the Prime Minister called for an official denunciation of Veleaz and vowed to put renewed pressure on the international community to put more sanctions on the communist state. The official condemnation bill passed unanimously in parliament today and Mr Portas has suggested he will be in contact with his peers in the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations immediately and wider international community over the coming days to push for wider international sanctions. When discussing the issue with journalists this afternoon the Prime Minister stated that Midrasia must exhaust all 'diplomatic avenues to ensure that Tolvas does not go unpunished.' However, when asked if this situation could develop into war, the Prime Minister stated that such a situation is 'incredibly unlikely' and would 'not be in Midrasia's best interest'. Speaking on the incident Home Secretary Thierry Millón had this to say: 'We have all known the rogue state of Veleaz to drop to this level of barbarity on a number of occasions, however this incident marks a new first. A direct violation of Midrasian sovereignty. Our constitution applies to all peoples within our territory, regardless of citizenship. To shoot dead a child on Midrasian soil is not only a despicable act, but also a violation of the basic tenants of international law and the sovereignty of nations. We here in Midrasia call for a renewed international effort to condemn and sanction the so-called People's state of Veleaz.'

Veleazan state media has already issued a rebuke on the event, suggesting that the child shot was on their soil at the time of the incident. The state also reaffirmed its right to uphold its own sovereignty by executing traitors. The state officially called for the elimination of the fifteen year old girl currently in Midrasian custody. Furthermore, within the broadcast, the Veleazan media denounced Midrasia's alleged promotion of illegal migration whilst also condemning the border clashes suggested they were started by jingoistic Midrasian soldiers seeking to start a war. This all comes at a time where unconfirmed reports suggest protests and riots to be breaking out across the communist state due to food shortages and political purges. Rumours also suggest that the sclavic minority in eastern Veleaz is also calling for increased autonomy or outright independence.

In response to the incident the Midrasian navy has increased patrols within the Asur sea near Veleazan waters and Alzur island. Military deployments near the Veleazan and Wallaisan border have also taken place following the incident, however the MoD has stated that this is merely a 'precautionary measure' and that the government has 'committed to using diplomatic channels to ease this situation'.
