Reminder that the transfer window slams shut in less than 24 hours! Please get your business finalised, take a last look at the sheet and make sure you aren't leaving any bids waiting!

If you do miss the cutoff and the sheet is locked before you can confirm/deny a bid on your players, it isn't the end of the world. If you reach me on IRC, I can make special dispensations and resolve bids - but it's easiest on everyone if things are just sorted out now.

I am working on a running my first domestic league season with NSFootySim. If I post in the next few days, will I be eligible for the next set of UCIA tournaments, or will I need to wait until the current series of tournaments end before posting? I don't want to get in the way of what's going on right now

Hi and welcome to NS Sports.

The UICA conpetitions for cycle 69 has already been concluded, and the regional domestic club conpetitions are almost complete. Submissions for the next UICA cycle are open so you can post povided you follow the guidelines set by Conmerce Heights.

Alternatively, you can create your own thread for your domestic leagues an you can just link it to your submission to the UICA and other domestic club competitions, should you want to participate in them.

Lastly, to get to know more on how things are run in NS Sports, please visit this link, The Guide to Sports Roleplaying.

THE CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE

The Centre for Excellence returns for another season, with both the Apoxian and Bonesea variant (based in Tolling) going from strength to strength. There has been some movement between the clubs, with players who had aged over 21 in Bonesea time returning to Apox and their multiverse age while some from Apox have transferred out to Bonesea.

A note on the ageing process for those players based in Bonesea. Bonesea runs their leagues going off one league season/year per RL month. As a result, this runs somewhat faster than the majority of other leagues in NS. This is solved using the excuse of the Whelm Fluid Time plant leaking and making Boneyfolk age faster than people from other nations. However, many will not want to have their players age at a much faster rate than their league/NT, so on leaving Bonesea, there is a pill which can be taken to reverse the effects of the ageing. This is why in the Bonesea roster, there are two ages, one for the players age in the wider multiverse and one for the players age in Bonesea. If you sign a player from Bonesea, then you will have the option to have their age be the Bonesea age or the multiverse age.

As usual, any Apoxian/Mareibatian players can be transferred elsewhere, just TG me or find me on IRC if interested. For other nations players, you'll need to sort that out with the nation in question, but if any transfers are made, TG me and I will update the roster. Additionally, if you have any players you'd like to send to the Centre for Excellence, TG me or hit me up on IRC (I tend to only be sporadically on IRC these days) and I can add them to the rosters. Also not ruling out the possibility of further expansion in future seasons!

I haven't seen anything since I've been back but is there, or has there been in recent memory, a widely accepted NS RP football management sim equivalent of the mighty Football Manager? I don't necessarily want to establish one but I'd like to piggyback an existing or historic game, largely to take advantage of an insane scouting network per the FM community.

EDIT: And if there isn't a widely established one, has anybody RPed a fictional management sim that they would be happy for me to use in a Galacticos Index RP?

Honestly, given its generic name, you could probably just get away with keeping Football Manager (and WCC for the more action-y equivalent football sim). It's what I've been doing, and I don't think there's a widely used alternative.

A few nations, including myself, had made mention in the past of variants of the game, but nothing that would step on anyones toes if you did your own, imo.
World Cup 40, 42, 43, 52, & 61 Champions
WC 47, 51, 94 (2nd), WC 34, 38, 39, 41, 44, 45, 53, 60, 67, 92 (3rd), WC 49, 58, 87, 90 (Semifinalist), WC 33, 35-37, 46, 48, 54, 55, 62, 63, 65, 72, 83, 85, 86, 88, 91 (Quarterfinalist)
WCoH VII, VIII, XVII, XXVIII, XXX, XXXII (1st), WCoH I, XXXI, XL (2nd), WCoH II, XXIX (3rd), WCoH XII (4th)
AOCAF 44, 46, 51, 53, 65, 68 Champions, AOCAF 39, 43, 55, 59, 64 Runners Up
Co-Hosted: too many events to count

EPL Season 20,073

I do like the idea of 'WCC'. Possibly with a version number that would be something like 316 if it was updated every year since the first WC! (assuming a 4-yr cycle). I know what you mean about FM, it's the most utilitarian game name of all time, but doesn't really cut the mustard for a lover of proper nouns.

Is it a good idea to create a scouting network with reports for other nations to see that have U-21 players for other nations to put on their domestic clubs

Didn't someone once do a Football Manager "RLStates" RP? Though I suppose that would be the NS equivalent of what an NS version of FM is to RL. Ugh, my brain hurts.

I remember Gordonopia Games releasing FIFA-like games under the moniker 'UICA **' back when they were UICA sponsors. I guess you could use them.

RLStates is the browser based forum game where our NS citizens can play as countries with ridiculous fanfic names like 'America', 'India' and even 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland' (lols).

For the original question, there's no super established name for what would be the NS FM game, or similar. With so many of us being video game nerds, I'm sure there'd be plenty of competing games multiverse wide. Essentially, pick what you like :)

I did consider using the RLStates brand but one of the issues I always had with it as you've illustrated here (emphasis mine) is the lack of restriction on name generation, which makes the whole thing hard to take seriously. I mean 'China', ffs. 'Turkey'. 'Oman'. Like, really? Whatever next? I did a random keyboard bash once, came up with 'Chile' - and it was already taken.

Sort of. There was another one where he had fake wikipedia articles of players too but I can't remember when that was. Fairly recently IIRC

Ab Tatlock, a minor administrator, said

Despite promises to the contrary, tonight's Galactico Index presentation evening will not proceed due to a power outage and heating failure at Goat's Bluff. As a result the final presentation for the greatest players in the modern game will be shifted to the middle of thawing season [OOC: tomorrow] and the management of Boldsport apologise profusely for the delay to this much-anticipated ceremony. {taps mic in confusion} Hello? Is anybody there?

OOC apologies: WC and Index? Too much RP on the same day, sorry for the delay...

Double post, sorry.

Well, the last installment of the Galacticos is finally up, apologies to anyone interested that it was a bit drawn out; RL, WC and Index together proving a tall order at this time of year for me. I know some at least were interested because I did get some commentary, corrections and advice during the posting that was welcome and appreciated - some of which I could act on and some which I couldn't because I was part-way committed. But thanks to all that did get in touch, and it's reassuring to know that some of you have enjoyed it enough to care.

Which got me thinking a bit. Now that it's up and running and seems to be appreciated, I feel I ought to make more useful in-canon for others, which means it needs to be a bit more accurate - although I still like the idea that it is an opinion piece and liable to the eccentricities of the Bonesfolk and their sometimes skewed judgment. So a couple of things - first, with the next cycle I will post the longlong list as a 'proposed list' of around 75-100 players. I will then leave it open for people to make observations and corrections so that I know, for example, who is the better of two/three/four players from one domestic club, from the source. I will devise some basic rules around this so that decision-making is not unduly influenced, but that decisions are informed by RPers & their better inside knowledge of their own players.

Secondly, regarding the Galacticos Junior award - I can't possibly know who the best academy players are so this time around I invited a few users who consistently bring a lot of young players into the NS world to nominate a few players each with a couple of lines about them. Then I picked winners based on some internal and admittedly pretty subjective criteria. It was never going to be scientific but it did generate some fun entries and I noted some follow-up RP in the WC thread, which is entirely mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned. So next cycle I will open this section out for all nations to nominate their wonderkids that no-one has heard of... yet. Full criteria will be published at the time when CH starts the next UICA scorination, but get filling up your academies with future stars.

Thoughts on how the Galacticos might be improved upon are welcome. Also, if down the road there are any transfers or other IC news that have been influenced by the awards, I'd love to know about it so that I can include it in some shameless bragging at the next ceremony - and invite guests too, like John Spartan this time around (thanks to Eura for the loan of the poor abused fellow).

Do UICA coëfficients degrade? or are they permanent?
The Principality of Lisander, a sports loving, very highly developed nation in Astyria.
Disappointing people and missing deadlines since 2013.
