Is the head of state elected democratically? The President is elected every four years.
Does the head of state hold executive authority? To an extent, yes. They are the Commander-in-Chief of the Agrincourtian Armed Forces and, in general, tend to set the agenda for politics during their term whether that's officialy or not. There is nothing in the constitution which would prevent the Prime Minister from ignoring the agenda, but it's a historical precedent.
Is the head of government elected democratically? They must be elected to represent a constituency as a Member of Parliament (for the House of Commons).
Is the legislature elected democratically? Yes, of course.
Is the legislature independent? To an extent, there is a fusion of powers. MPs sitting in the House of Commons are selected to lead ministries and other such government posts, whereas those MPs sitting in the Senate are strictly not allowed to do so.
Are all hereditary titles abolished? Yes. Since becoming a republic, the old system of peerage was abandoned.
On a scale of 1-5, 1 being confederation of entirely sovereign entities and 5 being unitary state, how centralised is power in your nation? 3 - similiar to Germany, the republic has a federal constitution, with a strong central government.
Are all non-criminal adult citizens allowed to vote? Yes, but only if they have provided evidence of their rehabilitation (which is a special document obtained from a probation officer).
Does your nation have central banking? Yes.

Can citizens possess weapons indefinitely? Unlike the American constitution, Agrincourt has no fundamental right proclaiming a 'right to bear arms'. However, individuals are not prohibited from owning firearms and they are in fact quite popular. This goes especially for the rural areas/states, which have lenient gun regulations.
Can citizens possess and use drugs indefinitely? No. The use and possession of drugs is regulated by the state, with most harmful drugs being illegal.
Is there complete separation of church and state? Yes. Despite a majority (61%) of citizens declaring themselves as 'religious', the separation of church and state is outlined in the Constitution.
Can citizens freely associate and do business, and refuse to do so, with whomever they desire? Yes, to an extent.
Are all sexual acts between consenting adults legal? Yes.
Are citizens ensured freedom of speech and complete freedom from censorship? Yes.
Can people enter and leave the nation’s territory indefinitely? The government encourages educated immigrants to move to Agrincourt, with the process being simplified for them. However, in general, one cannot stay indefinitely unless they are a) political/war refugee, b) asylum seeker, c) person of national interest.
Do police require a warrant and probable cause? Yes, at all times.
Are LGBT+ citizens, immigrants, ethnic minorities, and women ensured the same rights as other citizens? Yes, of course.
Are all ‘victimless’ crimes completely legal? Recreational drug use has recently been decriminalised, but it is still illegal. Prostitution is completely legal across Agrincourt.
Is private property legal?Yes, of course.

Voluntarism Index

Postby Chadtonia » Thu Dec 07, 2017 2:40 pm

CODE: SELECT ALL
Is the head of state elected democratically?
The Head of State is the Federal Council. Each of the members are are elected through democratic processes.

Does the head of state hold executive authority? Yes, however, the President, as both the Chairperson and the Emperor-In-Effect of Chadtonia, is the primary executive power of the Federal Council.

Is the head of government elected democratically? The Head of government and Head of State are the same thing. The Federal Council serves as both the Head of State and Head of government. However, this may be changing soon, as the Federal Council is pushing measures to make the President the Head of State.

Is the legislature elected democratically? Yes. (See above.)
Is the legislature independent? Not in the strictest of terms no. The Federal Council must do everything according to the Union of Diplomacy Act, at least for now.

Are all hereditary titles abolished?
On the Federal level, yes. On the Provincial level, not necessarily.

On a scale of 1-5, 1 being confederation of entirely sovereign entities and 5 being unitary state, how centralised is power in your nation?

Probably close to 4 now, we surmise.

Are all non-criminal adult citizens allowed to vote? Yes. The starting voting age is now 21.

Does your nation have central banking? We do now, yes.

Can citizens possess weapons indefinitely? Yes. For firearms they must be licensed and registered, and the license renewed annually. Other weapons do not need to be licensed nor registered on the Federal level, but Provincial laws may apply.

Can citizens possess and use drugs indefinitely?
No. Absolutely not. Only prescription medication is legal.

Is there complete separation of church and state?
Chadtonia's culture is heavily influenced by various tribal religions, and is heavily Tikunuan culturally. Theism is an inescapable part of our culture and government. So, no.

Can citizens freely associate and do business, and refuse to do so, with whomever they desire? No. Federal Regulations apply.

Are all sexual acts between consenting adults legal?
Yes. They are now. But not necessarily publicly.

Are citizens ensured freedom of speech and complete freedom from censorship?
They are now, yes.

Can people enter and leave the nation’s territory indefinitely?
No.

Do police require a warrant and probable cause? Yes, except in cases of suspected terrorism.

Are LGBT+ citizens, immigrants, ethnic minorities, and women ensured the same rights as other citizens?

They are now.

Are all ‘victimless’ crimes completely legal?
Probably not technically, since many Imperial Laws are still in effect. But we are curious, if even such a notion exists. If Tree Squirrel steps on a beetle in Chief Three Feather's tent, the crime of dishonor has been committed. If this act is caught by Federal Police, Tree Squirrel is arrested and taken to Tribal Honor school. The victims, Chief Three Feather and the beetle.

Is private property legal? This doesn't exist in Chadtonia's system. All property is technically owned by the Federal Council. Most citizens live in buildings that the government built or in tribal communities. But the government owns all land.
