That's entirely possible. We settled on December 31 because of Max's email, and because Myrth told us they had been founded in TSP on 31 December 2002. If it wasn't Dec 31, at least we do agree that TSP existed by Jan 1.

My inner historian would go crazy if you ever managed to get ahold of that Straight Dope post. :P

Correct. I founded my nation in the early evening (UK GMT) of 31st December 2002 and it appeared in the South Pacific.

Okay so I did a fair amount of research using the Wayback Archive tonight, with some interesting findings for the Rejected Realms, the Pacific, and Europe. An interesting technique I used to make these discoveries was that I found the snapshots on Wayback are taken of various census reports over the course of a few days, "slowing" the snapshots down - using a general expression (*) after the url reveals previously unseen RMB posts and delegate data that were new to me.

Perhaps the most exciting discovery for me though using this technique was that I found out my original nation, Unibot, was founded in the South Pacific! I'm a TSP native after all. Hilariously enough, I figured this out by matching some ascii from a RMB Ad that I remembered (a large soldier). The post time precisely matches when I joined, so I'm confident it's the same ad from the only region that had had that ad at that time of day.

I had originally aimed to try to confirm whether April 27 or April 29 was TRR's founding date. The site's news page suggests April 29, but April 27 was a date that we had gotten from Kandarin. I have no idea what's right there. I came up with no conclusions tonight on that question.

Notes

  • I've found two previously unknown pre-Kandarin Delegates in TRR, Dogwhores (lol) and Lovisa. I believe Lovisa, a European, took the delegacy briefly on May 29 after a mass ejection in Europe, presumably because his or her endorsements were greater than Gres' at the time.
  • Previously I had discovered two pre-Francos Delegates (Jell-O and -Ukraine-) based off an ancient news article, now I've discovered a third pre-Francos delegate, The Wold, who ruled between InfernoIce and Jell-O. I also have more information to flesh out what the very brief tenures of Jell-O and -Ukraine- looked like and the Free the Pacific Movement which was fighting Sudetenland/InfernoIce/-Ukraine-.
  • The original founder of Europe was Schumania.
  • During the course of my research, I found Gres' first appointment to General for the RRA was referred to as "Mars." "May 29 2003. 6 hours ago. The Federation of Gres: Thank you Mars for stepping up as General. Good luck finding good soldiers! " Mars sounds terribly familiar, ADN or NetworkRadio or something like that?
  • I found a reference on the TRR RMB to what I believe RedCommunist may have called the 'First NS World War'. "The Rogue Nation of WMD Dealers War is imminent between the USSR and Irelandia. I recommend we support the USSR, because Irelandia started the conflict by telegramming the USSR and declaring war on them." This is significant because we know Francos Spain participated in said war with his original (unknown) account. I'll probably follow up on this later...

Early Chronology of TRR's Delegacy

Sagar - ? - May 04 2003.
Louldamin - May 04 2003.
Dogwhores - May 05 2003.
Louldamin - May 06 - May 28 2003.
Gres - May 28 - May 29 2003.
Lovisa - May 29 2003.
Gres - May 30 - June 09 2003.
The Holy Manatee (Mr Nonchalant) - June 09 - June 18 (ish)
Kandarin - June 18 -

May 03, 2003
The Nomadic Peoples of Laetus: can you be rejected from the rejected realms?
The Rogue Nation of Liberal Weaklings: Hmmm, who knows

Sagar is the earliest known delegate of the Rejected Realms, although not necessarily the first. Not much is known about poor Sagar, but I know a little bit more about him or her now than when I began my research. Depending on when TRR was created (April 27/29) and whether Sagar is indeed the first delegate of the Rejected Realms, Sagar was a relatively quiet fellow whose tenure as delegate lasted at least two days, but no more than a week. Sagar's nation wore the English flag and his or her nation's motto was "Let the refugees frolic in your lush forests...." His nation was a Corporate Bordello.

Sagar was last active on June 1, living just long enough to witness the fledgling new RRA under the leadership of the then new delegate, Gres. By the beginning of July 2003, Sagar's nation ceased-to-exist and he or she faded into relative anonymity. On May 03, however, Sagar changed TRR's WFE from its original message...

"A cold, barren wasteland, the Rejected Realms are home to nations ejected from other regions."

To, "A cold, barren wasteland, the Rejected Realms are home to nations ejected from other regions but are clearly the most terrorising nations in the world and that is something to be proud of. E2." [Emphasis is mine.]

During the entirety of Sagar's very short reign, however, we can find numerous traces on the RMB of Louldamin, an AA agent, promoting his vision for the region and calling upon rejects and residents to endorse him over Sagar. Louldamin notes he was tied with Sagar for endorsements and took the delegacy, May 04. Like many at that time, Louldamin hoped rejects could come to intimidate those who had ejected them in a search for respect and/or revenge. This was a common sentiment at the time, a Yahoo working group was even established by Flaming Troll earlier that week to organize a "coalition" of displaced rejects who could invade regions in "need of a check."

Louldamin altered the WFE to read:

"This region is made of strong resilant nations that will once again rise above this atrousity that people forced upon us by kicking us out.Lets show the world that to be a part of The Rejected Realms is a privlage. So Regions of the world send us your "weak" because we will make them strong send us your homeless because in the rejected realms they will always have a home."

Louldamin soon changed the WFE (May 4/5) to demonstrate his association with the AA:

"A new day has arrived in TheQuestofTheRejectedRealms. We now have the backing of Atlantic! The mightiest region on Earth. The Atlantic controls some of the Pacifics,Iraq etc.May The motherland Atlantic lead us in our quest because it has the most expeirience and is the fairest and wisest in the world. With Atlantic's help we can reach our goal.Forward Base of The Atlantic established May 4,2003" (May 4)

But at the next update (May 5), Dogwhores became delegate of TRR and left before the end of the day (Louldamin returned to the delegacy at the next update.) I had originally thought Dogwhores had been DEATed by the moderators for an offensive name, but his last activity actually occurred a full year later. I now believe Dogwhores came to power accidentally after an AA invasion-gone-wrong in Massassi Jungle, since Louldamin, also an AA agent, doesn't appear too freaked out about losing power in TRR. Louldamin writes on the RMB: "In due time my friend.let us see how Dogwhores mission in Massassi Jungle works out."

Once in power again, Louldamin only updated the WFE twice more during his tenure that I know of; once to reflect his association with the AA and the other on May 21th to denounce the AA. NS History tells us that Gres became disillusioned with the AA but this is the first time I've seen where Louldamin might have also have left the AA.

" You may wonder why you are here in the rejected realms? We are the downtrodden and disposed, many of whom have been ejected unfairly from our home regions. If you would like to join in the fight for peace and democracy in all regions then consider joining the Atlantic http://atlanticstates.cjb.net/ - if you just want to take regions over against their will, I suggest you look elsewhere." (May 16)

"Why are you here?? You have proably been unfairly thrown by an evil delegate! Here in The Rejected Realms we Reject evil Delegates. Th Atlantic think they are a hard Region....but they are not they must be stopped. Everbody is equal. Don't let the ACC win and please endorse me to stop them!!!If there are evil delegates please tell me and they shall be dealt with!!!" (May 21)

Gres took the delegacy on May 28 (forming the RRA that day) and lost the delegacy very briefly on May 29 to Lovisa in what appears to be a case of a mass ejection in Europe that resulted in Lovisa taking the delegacy by accident. The Wayback Archives don't show the invasion of the East Pacific well, but we know from Kandarin's essay that Gres would eventually lose the delegacy less than two weeks later to MrNonchalant, an AA invader, after Gres got his UN Nation killed for multi'ing during TRR's failed invasion of TEP. Kandarin would eventually prevail against MrNonchalant and take the delegacy with Gres and the RRA's blessing.

Early Chronology of the Pacific's Delegacy, Pre-Francos

Sudetenland - XXXX - XXXX
InfernoIce - XXXX - May 8.
The Wold - May 8 - May 11.
Jell-O - May 11 - May 16.
-Ukraine- - May 16 - May 21.
Olongapo - May 21 -

We've known Sudetenland and InfernoIce ("Old Frosty") for sometime as the first known UN Delegates of the Pacific. The boneyard shows Sudetenland's last activity in April 15, so it stands to reason that he or she was delegate prior to April 15 and there may have been delegates in between Sudetenland and InfernoIce. At the time, it was widely believed that Sudetenland, InfernoIce and -Ukraine- were all the same individual, all three regarded as tyrants of the Pacific by the Free the Pacific Movement which rose to prominence with the defeat of -Ukraine- and the rise to power of Olongapo.

Between the fall of InfernoIce and -Ukraine- are two, as far as I can tell, completely benign delegates who held very short tenures. Except it looks as though InfernoIce was banned along with his puppet, Sudeten on May 08 15:49:51 GMT when the Wold took power. The Wold, who sported a welsh flag, set the WFE as "n/a." They were soon replaced by Jell-O who took the delegacy from the Wold. Jell-O sported a micronesia flag and changed the Pacific's WFE to "Greetings fellow Pacificans! I am your new delegate Jell-O. There is always room for Jell-O! Feel free to endorse me, and I will most certainly endorse you back!" SPINN reports that Jell-O was "setting up a Pacific government, a cabinet with various leadership positions."

-Ukraine-, who took the delegacy on May 16, however appears to have been anything but benign. He or she ejected 4,500 nations from the Pacific over five days before being deposed by Olongapo. On May 21, Olongapo came to power and updated the WFE with a celebratory message: "WE ARE FREE!!!! The free the pacific movement has succesfully won back freedom. Today (May 21st, 2003), we declared independence from the clutches of dictatorship. we shall institute a controlled unbanning of all nations exiled by three periods of authocracy. UNBANNED: PINOYS, NANDAR, ARYAK, bluish sirenia,ASGAD, Nenuial, poise, deLanoy, divafied states, emotion and love, maledicta." Folklore says that Olongapo held elections shortly thereafter and TheDoc won them - the first and only elected delegate of the Pacific.

Some messages on the Rejected Realms' RMB offers some context on the -Ukraine- context:

May 05 2003
The Kingdom of Miglandia : To all of those who like me have been kicked out from The Pacific region by dictators like Sudeten or InfernoIce,

-Ukraine- is scared. He's a weakling. He doesn't want all the nations HE HAS BANNED to come back because HE WILL LOSE his seat as delegate. Don't stand up for this. He's already losing votes. Let it continue!!!

The Republic of Free The Pacific Times
-NEWS BULLETIN-

THE PACIFIC IS FREE!!!

the new delegate olongapo is quickly returning the pacific to democracy by unbannign scores of nations minutes after their nations assumed delgateship.

"Welcome our friends who were exiled. our region is 4,500 nations weaker than when you were ejected. but together let us rebuild it to the level it was before and even better," olongapo told reporters and scores of nations at a press briefing.

he added that while most UN members see that the endorsement is a bad part of the game, olongapo and the free the pacific movement learned a tough lesson that unless the delegateship is kept in the control of democratic countries, the region will suffer.

already, from the peak of 12,567 nations five days ago, the pacific now has only 8870.

"this decline is because of ejection and threats from the delegates. this will not happen again as long as olongapo and the rest of the movement is around,' olongapo said.

olongapo asked reporters to let the news of this great reach those who are in exile and those who have left.

'the pacific was great, is great and will be great again. no delegate own the pacific, the nations do!." (30)

I don’t know if -Ukraine- was banning all the nations he purged or just ejecting them, but it’s a major purge either way on the scale of JAL/Ivan/Francos/Loop. I had seen an earlier news report from a different source about -Ukraine- but this latest round of research has helped me confirm the extent of -Ukraine-‘s reign of terror. Whoever they were, they meant business.

Well that answers that, thanks Elu. Holy crap, is 4,500 a record? I forget JAL’s numbers but I recall him being in that range.

JAL has a career total claim of 6,000. 1,000 of those can be traced to the SPSR's 10 day reign.

Ewww, this could be mucky then, -Ukraine- might have the single largest purge on record, but JAL, the most purged cumulatively.

“Condemn Durk II” cites JAL’s TNP purge at 600. Which is considerably smaller than I remember, but I was a youngling then. I have an idea where I might be able to find some data on the old Ivan/Moo purges, I’ll look into those. I get the sense though that 4,500 is probably the largest. -Ukraine- didn’t have influence or griefing rules to worry about and the Pacific was hilariously overcrowded by May 16 2003 (12K Nations.)

I'm pretty confident after reading this post here that the Rejected Realms was founded on April 29, not April 27. I think that was just an error on someone's part transcribing Kandarin's IRC notes (Indeed, probably mine.) Everything matches with April 29 2003.

Kandarin elaborated more on TRR's invasion here, as did Loop here with his perspective, including some very interesting old telegrams.

TSP might be interested in this gem from BlackAdder, it confirms a lot of chronology that we already suspected about TSP's history. Bong Load was the first delegate, Jan 01 2003 with twenty endorsements.

This was the old Jolt thread discussing the spam attack in TEP. Again, it contains some cool old telegrams from the incident.

---

Something I thought was cool was I noticed Kandarin had voted for an NSUN resolution at the time of June 09 with 16 votes. That suggests to me that Kandarin was out on a specific RRA mission just prior to launching into the East Pacific - or he was delegate of a RRA HQ region.

This is also pretty cool, PapalExhibitionism, TEP's griefer can be spotted joining the WA just before the attack on TEP (June 08). By pure accident, I can give you'll an exact time: 01:15:42 AM EST.

Image

EDIT: Also, it's new to me but apparently Lazarus had a motto originally (circa 2004.) "Nex est tantum a pupillus obstaculum." (Death is but a minor obstacle.) It was on the WFE and the original mandate.

Last I checked I believe the agreed upon conclusions are indeed that Francos Spain has the largest single purge and JAL has the largest cumulative purge tally.

Yeah I think so too, I’m just not sure if -Ukraine-‘s purge was known when that record was decided. But I honestly can’t remember what number was decided for FS to compare.

That number (for -Ukraine-) seems very, very high. It makes me wonder if it was excessive hyperbole or just interpreting game data wrong. Even if they were counting all the nations that were ejected, left to go elsewhere, and died of inactivity you might not get that high a number.

Infinite Loop (ejecting every WA nation in the East Pacific not endorsing them immediately) punted more nations than Francos Spain ever did and Francos Spain was contending with puppet flooding by opponents of the NPO. Infinite Loop and Francos Spain were 1 and 2 for ejection records at that point, and they were in the 2500ish nation ball park.

I think JAL would have set an almost unbeatable benchmark if he hadn't gone full on kamikaze with an obscene flag, while the region was under a microscope by the Mods at the time. I'm pretty certain the numbers were a lot higher than 600 though and it was the first time someone tried to empty a feeder for the sake of emptying a feeder (at least the first time someone tried to and made enough progress for other people to take notice). I remember everyone speculating what would happen if they completely emptied a feeder for the update.

Correct and incorrect. Schumania was appointed founder shortly after they were implemented. He later went inactive and CTE'd and as Europe was by far the largest UCR at the time, dispensation was granted to re-appoint another founder.

It does look as though that figure is correct, I’ll confirm it later though by looking at changes in TRR’s population at the time. There was definitely a four thousand nation + drop over about five days in the Pacific which is a major shift.

Yeah, I meant the original person granted founder status. Thanks for charifying how that shuffle came to be though.

There are other factors besides ejection from the Pacific to account for the drop in nations. A drop in nations does not have a 1:1 ratio of ejections over a time period. You would need figures from time periods, prior and after the banjection spree, to begin to get an idea of nation loss per 5 days. The real number of ejections could be between 1-2 thousand, but you need better data to have a claim of 4000 ejections.

When the Pacific was that huge the update nation death tolls would have been massive. You would have to check to see if some particularly large puppet masters had their hordes die at the same time.

You would have to look at the telegrams flying around and posts on the region page, to see the mood of the place, and if players were leaving in droves in disgust over what was going on.

You would also have to look at the timing of recruiting campaigns of the player created regions which were really picking up steam by that point. Some people don't recruit in feeders during a melt down and other people recruit more because they feel the recipient of the recruiting will be more likely to move somewhere saner.

In the days of Griefer Rules you could actually access delegate banjection records (how many ejections and bans a delegate had made). Like many other game changes, things change, things are updated, and valuable record keeping tools are lost in the process.

Was this the old Regional Administration page? If I could find the old URL format, Wayback may actually have it saved. It could carry neat information for several regions’ history.

Does anyone know what happened to Maxtopia? Did he just CTE? Or something else? I think it says "disgraced" in the Boneyard.
I am an American Christian male with an interest in a variety of topics, like SF, classic rock, guns, space travel, military history, and video games (Nintendo/retro). Franchises I like include Star Wars, Star Trek, and Transformers.

Ammunition supply-chain (6.5x55 Swede and .303 British, although available, isn't exactly everywhere)
If it's ugly, uncomfortable, and can't shoot straight, but it accomplishes the above, then it's either a Mosin of a Hi-Point."

Then never mind.

Bigtopia is also "Retired" as its Francos Spain, though I disagree with the last one when it already meets the usual criteria for it not to be re-used.

The data on the number of ejections and bans was indeed accessible to all on the Region Admin Page. Because of the Griefer Rules it was necessary to have a lot of transparency with the process, and raise awareness when someone was close to or exceeding the allowed limits of regional power abuse. Like most of the data from region tools like this, I didn't bother taking lots of notes because I didn't expect that data to vanish overnight.
