Give Me Those Goals Baby

Rolling into the match against Boring Paradise, the Echani team had to feel at least halfway decent. We had finally returned to our winning ways, putting three past Buyan in the previous matchday and escaping with three points; now we faced an essential match against Boring Paradise who sat one point ahead of us in third place. Important match, with a lot on the line, and the Echani team rose to the challenge in a spectacular way.

Playing in our traditional attacking passing style, the Echani dominated the entire ninety minutes of game, and got off to pretty much the perfect start. Well temporarily the perfect start; Magnum Cerelius hit an ambitious shot at goal from about 24 yards out, which the Boring Paradise keeper managed to push back behind the goalline for a corner kick in the 6th minute. Jean-Marie Bentacur hit a inswinging kick, with Samper Markovic rising gloriously like an eagle and headed it home with powerful conviction to make it 1-0. Helllllll yee. That’s a great start for any team, goals change games if you would believe that.

Buttttt unfortunately our joy was short lived when the ref blew the whistle for restart, the Boring Paradise striker rolled the ball back to a midfielder, who pinged it way up the sideline for one of their wings to retrieve, who crossed the ball into the box and it was slammed home to make it 1-1 in the seventh minute. Realllllllly not the way you want to celebrate scoring an early goal; go ahead and literally immediately concede an equalizer, I mean that is some booty I will tell you what. But the Echani took it in stride and didn’t lose their minds afterwards and just kept playing their game, pass pass pass, attack attack attack, and eventually it paid off.

A nice long spell of possession allowed the Echani players to string together a nice round of 36 passes from defense to midfield to goalkeeper to wingers to striker to Marco van Ciavatinni to Magnum Cerelius running in on goal for an easy tap in, 2-1 in the 19th minute. Eshan was in form, and looking ready to totally dismember the team from Boring Paradise.

And that is precisely what we did. Mercilessly attacking, with shot after shot and offensive movement after offensive moment, I’ll tell you what folks, the Echani were really giving Boring Paradise the business, always looking to attack and score. And that is precisely what we did right on the stroke of halftime. A pretty simple goal here, with Marco van Ciavatinni taking a freekick and chipping it into the box, Magnum Cerelius got his head to it and nodded it into the path of Marshawn Mercury, who really could have just swung a peg leg at it and it would’ve gone it. 3-1 in the 44th minute, and the ref blew for half right afterwards.

Total Echani dominance of the first half, in shots, in possession, in goals, in everything, and that’s really reassuring to see after our poor run of form that we seem to have worked out way through it. Either way, Eshan went into the half feeling extremely confident and ready to keep piling on the pain for the national team of Boring Paradise.

Which is pretty ironic and funny because it was the away team who were the next to score, and I have to admit it really was a beautiful screamer of a goal. Artemis Montanari gave away an absolutely ludicrous foul, hacking down one of their players for no reason like a total idiot, and was lucky to escape with just a yellow card. The freekick was about forty yards out; the Boring Paradise player took it and just passed it short on the ground to one of his teammates, who ran up and hit the ball first time from just about 35 yards out. The lad absolutely leathered it, I mean he really threw his purse at is, pretty sure he left an imprint from his laces on the ball he hit it so hard. Anyways, the ball screamed past Aurélian Gautier into the net to make it 3-2 and instantly Echani fans everywhere clenched and said “ohhhhhhhhhhhhh fuck”. But fortunately our national team players are a little bit more mentally strong and capable football-wise, so the players knew they could hold onto the lead, hell maybe even expand it.

Which they did thank god. Marco van Ciavatinni came off for Marcelo Ramos in the 56th minute looking a little tired, and Ramos immediately made a contribution. An extremely intelligent player, Ramos got the ball out on the right wing and passed it between himself, Steven Tadeo, and Artemis Montanari for a little bit, before Ramos made a great cut in on goal and Jean-Marie Bentacur picked him out with a laser pass. Marcelo Ramos was literally open in front of goal with just the keeper to beat, but for some reason he held up the ball for a couple of seconds while the Boring Paradise defenders rushed back and millions of Echani around the world screamed at their TV, only for Ramos to play a brilliant no look pass over to Magnum Cerelius, who was lancing in from the left wing, ran onto the ball and took a touch to stabilize it, and then slotted it past the keeper into the net. 4-2 in the 58th minute.

5-2 came in the 69th minute, when Jean-Pol Roland (who came in for Artemis Montanari in the 62nd minute) was fouled and a freekick was awarded. Jean-Marie Bentacur stepped up, hit a smashing shot that arced up and over the wall before dropping back down…and blasted back off the bar. Fortunately, the rebound went right to Roland, who simply tapped it in. 5-2 and that was game. Alexio del Nieran made his final change, bringing in Adnan Cynac, who plays abroad in Eura, for Jean-Marie Bentacur.

The Echani certainly took their foot off the gas after going ahead 5-2, there was zero shot the team from Boring Paradise was going to mount a comeback, so our lads were totally fine with just passing the ball and winding down the clock, and that’s how the game wrapped up, minus and penalty kick in the 84th minute. Fed through on goal by a superb long pass from Jean-Pol Roland, Marshawn Mercury burst into the box and was brought down by one of their defenders. Up stepped Jean-Pol Roland, who verrrrryyyyy cooly, calmly, and with ice water in his veins hit a neat little chipped paneka that kissed the underside of the bar as it bounced into goal. 6-2, game entirely over.

Great, great, great game for the Echani team, the result sees us leapfrog Boring Paradise into third place. With Chromatika’s surprising defeat at the hands of Banija, the group has been blown wide open again. We sit three points behind the group leaders Chromatika, two behind Eastfield Lodge, which is some bullshit if you ask me cause we smacked them down, and we sit one point ahead of Banija, two ahead of Boring Paradise, and four ahead of Bostopia in 6th. So the group could really unfold in a myriad of different ways, which I don’t really care about so long as Eshan finishes in one of those top two spots. We’re still very much in the race for qualification, obviously cause there’s like 30 points left to play for, but it wouldn’t be Echani football if a single loss meant that we were OMG LITERALLY ABOUT TO NOT QUALIFY. We are quite a reactionary people in that way. Anyways, we play Bostopia in our next matchday; if we can grab a win and have some results go our way, we might sit tied for first as the first half of qualification comes to an end. We can hope, we can dream.

Revan was looking forward to his state visit to Mercedini, he wasn’t entirely sure when it would come to pass, but playing diplomate and representing Eshan overseas was something he was always more than up to doing. He was happy at the press coming out from the Mercedinian, with the country seeming to be very excited for him to come visit. As far as he could tell, Revan would be the first foreign head of state to visit the country; that’s a nice record to ensure him a(nother) space in the history books.

The Echani had a lot to offer the Mercedinians, from military hardware to green energy, endless amounts of marijuana to the multiverses best LSD, and countless more things that the nation had available to trade. He was interested to see what the Mercedinians would bring to the table, but in all honesty it really didn’t matter to Revan what they offered. He was happy to just build a relationship with another nation, to bring another country into Eshan’s sphere of influence, to continue to generate a positive image that the world was recognizing. Financial services, empty land, whatever it was, it wasn’t as important as the intangible part of ally-building.

Revan also didn’t have an entirely clear idea of the outcome he would like. A trade deal would be nice, military training would be good, but again that wasn’t what he was primarily concerned with; Revan knew that with his personality and political skills, a meeting with Dimitry Larmee would be a great step towards having a reliable ally. Nominally he was going there to build a bond between Mercedini and Eshan, security in the realm, and to hammer out a trade deal of sorts. But Revan was adaptable, whatever was thrown his way he would deal with, and would make sure that Eshan got the best deal out of it.

He should go on a state tour, visiting Echani allies like Ethane and Quebec, meeting potential allies like the Mercedinians, perhaps stopping by nations he had had recent diplomatic talk with, like Starblaydia and Valanora (who he had cabled in recent weeks with regards to the death of the Lord Protector and the Calling respectively), just a global world tour to help spread the Echani name out there and generate positive press and feelings towards Eshan.

Something to consider, especially as it seemed the current rush of international events was starting to peter off. The South Covello situation was certainly contained, with only a small number of Echani forces there to keep the peace. Nuevo Caracas continued to wind down, with Echani soldiers working well with the Quebecois to hunt down any last remaining pro-Immaduran forces. That was effectively the extent of current Echani operations abroad, our holdings of South Yerfilag and Ovskovyk were safe and contributing to the Republic, our base in Ethane was secure and held 15,000 Echani soldiers and various air and naval forces ready to deploy into Esportiva at a moment’s notice, and the arms deal with Ethane had been signed and completed smoothly.

Thinking on his home region of Atlantian Oceania, Revan had to confess that he wasn’t entirely sure what was going to happen next. The situation with Starblaydia…well Revan had no clue what would come out of that as those proud folk adapted to having a Lady Protector for the first time in many, many suns; the country wasn’t collapsing or revolting or doing anything insane that required action, so Revan assumed things were going just fine and that there was a peaceful transition of power underway.

The other thing of note going on in Atlantian Oceania was the Calling in Valanora. Or the fake Calling, Revan wasn’t entirely sure what was going on on the account of him not being an elf residing in Valanora. If he was that, undoubtedly the whole Calling would be more clear, but the basics of the situation were very very obvious to him. The Calling was an essential event the elves that only came every once in a long while, with the result of elves disappearing to……well he didn’t know that. The last Calling had come roughly forty years ago, so for this one to come again so soon was undoubtedly confusing to the Echani’s south-western neighbors. Anyhow, this potentially real, potentially fake Calling required extremely astute political navigation from Tobias; while Tobias certainly presented the evidence well that this was a fake calling, how would the elven population react? Would they believe Tobias and deny that instinctual (Revan assumed it was instinctual at any rate) need to answer the Calling and leave Valanora? Would they say he’s full of shit and push him out of power? Would some support him and some disagree, setting the stage for a conflict or civil war? What if this was a real Calling and none of the elves answered it? Would some crazy elf gods descend into Atlantian Oceania, because if so that would seriously cause a lot of problems for both Eshan and region. Either way, Revan was very interested in monitoring this situation, and he had mobilized Echani military forces to prepare to intervene if need be. Which Revan really couldn’t stress to himself enough that he very, very highly doubted that any sort of conflict would break out in Valanora, or Starblaydia, or really any other nation in Atlantian Oceania. Revan chuckled to himself, of course things seemed alright in AO compared to the rest of world, because unlike those regions Atlantian Oceania actually had their shit together and wasn’t plagued by wild international actions. For now at least.

So in summary, things seemed to be going well for Eshan in an international/diplomatic/military conflict sense. The two conflicts Eshan was in, in South Covello and Nuevo Caracas, were winding down in fantastic wins for the Echani forces. The Echani colonies were safe and sound and happy members of the Republic. Our allies were great, a state visit to Mercedini was on the horizon, so friendly things were going quite well. And the homefront of Atlantian Oceania seemed to be quite strong and stable, albeit with some uncertainty in Starblaydia and Valanora, but those did not seem to be, or even threaten to evolve into, situations where Echani action was needed.

It was a good time to be Echani.

The Big One ...
Link To First Post
Image

On televisions, radios, internet articles, social media, holographic projections, and 100-foot-tall urban electronic billboards in sporting nations everywhere, an advertisement has begun playing, in similar fashion to one broadcast in the prior weeks and months.

It opens with the same man from last time, older-looking and friendly, walking into frame. Behind him is a beautiful natural scene, the same as last time - but now, most of the background is obscured. The area right behind the man is now clearly a construction zone - massive beams of concrete and metal and glass and other materials sprout up behind him, as many workers and machines move around furiously, completing tasks. The man is also wearing a red and black helmet with the Drawkian seal on the front.

"I stand here today in Centivar County. A few months ago, this site was just a blank, peaceful hill amidst powerful mountains and pristine forests. Now it is the site of a multi-billion dollar project in the making. And in the not-too-far-future, it will be the site of a legendary triumph that will be spoken of for generations in nations around the multiverse." The camera begins to slowly move away from the man, panning out to show the enormity of the site and the work being done on it.

"That's right ... World Cup 79 will reach its long-awaited pinnacle on what was not too long ago, a meek hill in one of the most beautiful nations ever. People from nations big and small will travel to this stadium like some sort of modern athletic mecca." As the camera continues to zoom, the shot fills in the skeletal frame with CGI renderings of the stadium merged with the real-life surroundings of the site.

"As we've said before, this main section of the stadium will seat 250,000 fans, including those in the standing room only zones and in the enamoring luxury boxes. And now, yet another innovation will be included on this pitch - Dynamic Turf. The field material will be sourced by a recent Drawkian breakthrough. Not only will the surface itself feel like real grass despite being completely artificial and clean in nature, but due to pseudo-nanobot technology implanted in the 'soil,' lines and field markings can be modified by the stadium crew at any time, making upkeep quicker, and providing fans with new sources of entertainment and " The man's voice shifts to voiceover. The shot shows a rendering of the stadium's interior, then zooms in on the pitch itself. It shows a schematic of the turf and the technology within it, and then zooms back out to show the field modifying its appearance from gridiron football to soccer/football in moments.

"The innovation doesn't even stop there. Drawkian engineers and scientists have poured their effort into making the fan experience for this stadium the best in the multiverse, bar none. There will be six large video boards, one in each corner of the stadium and one on each short side of the seats. The boards attached to the Grand Pillars will actually be curved in nature to match the shape of the pillars. And best of all - in the center of the stadium, 35 meters above the pitch, are holographic projectors which act as an enormous and intermittent three-dimensional video board for the entire stadium's viewing." The picture continues to show projections of the stadium interior as they are described.

"In a similar fashion, the underground arena portion of the complex will have similar amenities for fan's enjoyment. This arena won't be the only underground portion of the complex either - an entire mini-urban district will be contained underneath the surface, including an abundance of parking, transportation too and from said parking, a mall and plaza with various high class stores, and of course offices for many organizations within and without the actual stadium structure." The picture shows moving shots of what the shopping complex and other places are going to look like, before zooming out to show a silhouette of the entire complex including its underground and slightly disconnected non-stadium counterpart.

"The money and support continues to pour in from sources around our globe on Sonnel and others. The construction is moving ahead of schedule with no hiccups or delays or issues. The stadium is roaring towards its true existence and the World Cup cycle is barreling to the point where this stadium will finally birth greatness unto the universe." The picture shows the stadium site, then quickly zooms out, showing the local area, the region of Drawkland, all of Drawkland, then zooming out to show the planet of Sonnel, and further still to show the far reaches of space.

"Once again, we come to you, the fans, the people who will this stadium life year after year, championship after championship, glorious victory after glorious victory. We called upon your help to name this future jewel in the universe once before, and now that we have more conclusive results, we ask again for your choices, in now a more narrowed field of options. Will you help us? Will you help us create history?"

The screen then fades to a Drawkian flag, and then to the logo that's being used to represent the project, and finally fades to a link to relevant website and where to vote.

OOC: Yup! Just like the first "round" of voting. Same deal here, please vote so we can decide on the name! The voting was pretty clear, imo - only one of these was a little questionable to be included but I wanted to have 7 options because duh. The last one is a suggested option - I liked it a lot, and actually 2 completely different users suggested that same name, so that was convenient enough that I had to include it. Sorry, all other suggestions. They were all pretty awesome, but just not awesome enough to jump the hump.

Oh yeah, regarding how this stadium is really FT-ish and even a bit FanT, feel free to ignore or handwave any features you're not comfortable having your team/fans/nation RPing with. IC'ly, for me, they exist, but you can turn a blind eye. I won't mind.

Here's a link to a Google Forms. The instructions on there should be pretty self-explanatory I think. Of course, if you have any inquiries on more advanced details on the stadium, I'm more than willing to respond via TG. Don't vote more than once of course - if you do I'll just delete your duplicate response(s). Link below to attract attention:

Nephara 3-0 Eura
(4-2-3-1) 1 - Tsattalios; 2 - Rafford (18 - Brymora 74'), 5 - Konoval, 6 - Scharner, 3 - Lohengrin; 4 - Misidjan (23 - Chilmark 57'), 8 - Tarashaj (15 - Klein 80'); 7 - Szalai, 21 - Gosforth (c), 11 - Strongbow; 9 - Hawke
Goals: Gosforth 16', Hawke 43', Chilmark 87'

Helmut Chilmark
Derived from the Germanic element 'helm' ("helmet") or 'heil' ("healthy") combined with 'muot' ("spirit, mind").

Chilmark knew his job. He was a bruising, physical player, and when he came on for the national team, it was because Michael Brandon wanted him to kill a game off. The silk and steel at the heart of Nephara's midfield was about to become steel and more steel. Suited him fine.

The first half had gone like a dream. For all the lovely noises surrounding the game beforehand, the unity of two nations et fuckin' cetera, Nephara had come out of the gates looking for blood. Eura, perhaps not expecting it, had duly bled. Nine minutes into the game and Vedran Tarashaj had already put his studs through Nolan, hard. Away, that would've been a red. At home, so early, the referee looked reluctant even to give him a caution. Tarashaj had had to hold back from that point, but Nolan had been a shadow of his potential.

The Eurans were an aging side, especially in midfield, and it was the pace and power of the less technical Nepharim that was giving them fits. The green shirts seemed first to every ball, and then to its rebound, unafraid to hit it long down the flanks to Szalai and Strongbow. And it was one such move, Misidjan with a brilliantly-weighted ball that was just in the right place for Szalai to take it past Conway for the first of many times. Harvey Conway was a good guy. He was Chilmark's club teammate. But he wasn't sorry to see him skinned here, particularly when Szalai then cut it back into empty space away from Hawke, Butler and Ainsworth.

Empty, that is, until Konrad Gosforth thundered into it from midfield and put his fucking boot through it.

Robert Griffin, on his home ground, got fingertips to it. They did not change the trajectory of the shot. A fucking AA cannon would not have changed the trajectory of the shot. It was 1-0 Nephara. The stadium exploded, flares were ripped, and the game was on.

But the Eurans were off their game, one of those chicken-and-egg questions with no particularly flattering answer; are they playing badly, or are Nephara not allowing them to play well? A bit of both probably had something to do with it, and an... optimistic Nolan shot from 30 yards that flew into the stands, with Kris Campbell having finally drifted away from his defence, caused a string of curses from the exasperated Steve Thompson on the touchline. Most of the time, though, Campbell had Scharner looming over him, a firm hand on his shoulder or shirt.

And then, Tarashaj showed the other side of his game - a perfectly clean tackle to take the ball away from Coltrane, and then charging through a suddenly soft centre. Nolan missed his tackle, but Sterling Rose managed to jockey him out to the side... but Lohengrin was cantering into view. Tarashaj laid it off and with her first touch Lohengrin swept in a glorious diagonal ball between Ainsworth and Butler. Between them raced Estrella Hawke, thumping home Nephara's second.

The first half ended and the second begun - not much had changed. Brandon had told the lads to turn the screw, so screws would be turned. Chilmark's arrival just before the hour mark was expected. Off came Misidjan, who'd just been booked for a rather cynical hack on Coltrane - the fouls were really starting to stack up, and it had been the Cormorants' third booking of an eventual six - and on lumbered the Holdenberg man, immediately making his presence felt by pulverising Nolan as they both went up for a header.

Nolan stumbled to his feet, but Chilmark just shrugged, muttered something in German and wandered off to defend it - that just set the Ulsa midfielder off more, and Chilmark felt his hand around his shoulder, and that set everything off. The referee, whistle blowing in everyone's ears, broke it up. Shortly after that, Thompson had seen enough. Off went Nolan and the harried, hassled Sutton, who had had a Time of it with Rafford (who blew him a kiss as he walked off), and on came Liam Armstrong and another striker, Dion Underwood.

They'd been ready for this, too. But they had the lead, now. They could hunker down, and this was Chilmark's element. Break up play, clip wings, win headers, get the ball rolling forwards - that was his job here, and he played it to perfection. The new formation did spice things up, and Armstrong was lively, dancing past Chilmark at one point and leaving him looking ridiculous as he pulled for his shirt but grasped only air, finding the new man, Underwood, with a pass. The fresh striker turned Scharner and shot, but Tsattalios was there to palm it away for a corner. Crisis averted. You can shove your 'most dangerous scoreline' headlines up your arse.

Time went on, and the clock was most definitely Nephara's friend. Armstrong vs. Chilmark became the main battle, and Armstrong did find openings - through Tarashaj, mostly, tiring and hamstrung by his early booking. But his shots could not get past Tsattalios, and Rusalka Klein's fresh legs came in to stamp out the danger late on.

Thompson, increasingly agitated on the sidelines, threw on the gigantic, towering ace up his sleeve. On came Lofty Jones for the exhausted Kris Campbell, who'd barely had a sniff of the ball. It was a fair Plan B to have - the fucker was massive, and the narrative was right there. At the next corner, with Jones looming... surely, there would be a goal.

And there was. But it wasn't on Eura's side.

Jones had managed a header pretty quickly, rising above Konoval but only able to direct Peter Morrison's cross straight at Tsattalios. The temptation was there to fall on it and take his time getting up, but the Falourr goalkeeper sensed opportunity, smashed the ball up the left flank. Rowena Strongbow was there, and drove inside Coles and fired low and hard. Griffin did well to tip it away, and the big, powerful Nepharim rolled up into the box.

Gosforth struck it sweetly and, in the middle of the scrum of bodies, Chilmark stood firm. He didn't even have to rise for it - just outmuscled Rose and allowed the ball to hit him in the forehead, guiding it almost tenderly into the net. Griffin could only watch, helplessly. 3-0.

Seven minutes later - there was a lot of stoppage time to be played - it was over, a better result than most of the fans could have hoped for. Nephara's perfect record remained intact. Eura's had shattered, though both sides looked almost certain to qualify at the halfway stage. It had been dirty as anything. Doubtless the international peanut gallery would condemn Nephara's foul count, decry their physicality when it came to the big teams, maybe even call Eura moral victors.

Let 'em. Nephara had the three points.

Papi Orientali Period(891-954)(Part 1)

During medieval times, most Juven popes came from the west, where most believers and major cities were, including Pomena, the seat of the pope. In the middle of the 9th century, around 870 AD, the Empire of Juvencus was split into 2. The west, called Juvencus dell'ovest lost its influence over most christians of Juvencus, it was ruled by the Pope at first, then after a series of coups, a tyrant took control of the area. The east, called Juvencus dell'est, went on to become the major power of the country, despite being affected by the whole loss of power from the west at first. After the coup was sucesfully completed in 891, the seat of power for Christians moved to the east, in Scudelli. The then Pope, originating from the west, called Pope Hadrianus II, immediately died after changing his seat of power. A new Pope was appointed and since the east was the one who controlled most of the religious power in Juvencus now, decided to choose an eastern pope. The new pope was called Paul IV.

Pope Paul IV
Pope Paul IV(Born Nicodemo Isidoro Bonaccorsi, 820-903) was an Eastern Juven Pope that reigned from 891 till 903 from the new papal seat of power, Scudelli. He was born and raised in the fishing village of Savia, close to Scudelli, to devout christian parents. When he was young, he was already a child of God and he knew what he wanted to do. According to older Juven scripts, by age 22 he was at the Saint Petrus monastery of Savia, living a calm life with other monks for a lot of years. He then moved to Scudelli at 867, and became the cardinal of the diocese, later promoted to archdiocese as the papal seat of power was moved there. When Pope Hadrianus II died, he influenced most cardinals to vote for him to become the next pope. His reign was short and turbulent though, as many Western Juven people tried to assasinate him for ruining a 'tradition' of the time. He died in 903, to natural causes though. Immediately after his death a new pope was appointed, an eastern one again, Pope Iordanus I.

Pope Iordanus I
Pope Iordanus I(Born Federico Valentino Siena, 850-921) was an Eastern Juven Pope that reigned from 903 till his death in 921 from Scudelli. He was born and raised in Scudelli, however he decided to go to smaller villages to help people by doing liturges in their churches. He was appointed cardinal of the diocese Santa Maria dell'est in 897 till he was declared Pope in 903. His reign was a turbulent one as well as a violent civil war between Juvencus dell'ovest and Juvencus dell'est broke out quickly over which side should have the seat of power of christianity in Juvencus and the world. He ruled the eastern armies as they tried to establish dominance over the west, which they successfully did until his death in 921, after being assassinated by Demetro Piciliano, a prominent western archer of the time. The fall of the east was imminent as there were already power struggles with 2 antipopes and the actual pope contesting for the spot. The Catholic church recognises Pope Isidoro III as his legitimate successor, despite Antipope Demetrius II receiving more recognition than him.

PRIDNESTROVIA SACKS MEN'S NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM MANAGER WERNER CEAUSESCU

By Gustav Tyumenov

Werner Ceausescu, the manager of the Pridnestrovian men's national football team, has been sacked by the Pridnestrovian Football Union following a disappointing run of results in the qualifiers of the 79th World Cup.

TIRASPOL, TRANSNISTRIA - The Pridnestrovian Football Union has announced that it has sacked the men's national football team manager, Werner Ceausescu, following a run of seven straight losses in the qualifiers of the 79th World Cup which has left the Pridnestrovian Republic in eighth place in Group 1.

The sacking of manager Ceausescu, while it may have come as a surprise to the people of Pridnestrovia and the players of the men's national football team, has been inevitable for some time. There were already rumors of Ceausescu's dismissal from his position following the disappointing losses to Gangnam and EEC. Pridnestrovia started off well in the qualifying campaign with a road win against the decadent Empire of Donner Land as well as a shock victory over Brenecia at home in the New Army Stadium, but after that win against Brenecia, victory and three points has proven very elusive for the Pridnestrovian men's national football team after that. The Pridnestrovian men's national football team fought bravely and well against near-impossible odds but from the offset it was clear that their tactics were no longer working for them. In fact, it could be argued that their tactics were now being used by the opponents to their own advantage.

"It is with great regret that the Pridnestrovian Football Union announces that it has parted ways with the manager of the men's national football team, Werner Claus Gheorghe Ceausescu," PFU president Rodion Lukashevich announced Tuesday evening. "Mr. Ceausescu has given us eight years of exciting football which has put Pridnestrovia as among the more notable footballing nations in the multiverse, as well as an appearance in the 58th Baptism of Fire and the a Global Cup of Soccer title, but unfortunately, the time has come for Pridnestrovia and Mr. Ceausescu to part ways."

In their first ever appearance in international multiversal football, Werner Ceausescu led the Pridnestrovian men's national football team to the final of the 58th Baptism of Fire, held in Mizuyuki and the Equestrian States, where they lost to The Hakifao Isles by a score of 2-1. Pridnestrovia then did well enough in the qualifiers of the 71st World Cup to earn an invite to the 63rd Cup of Harmony, where they were barely edged out of the round of 16 of the competition by Zenic 4-3. This was followed by a less-than-optimal debut at the Copa Rushmori, with Pridnestrovia finishing 3rd out of 4 teams in Group A with the likes of Eura and Sameba. Pridnestrovia did better at the 23rd Copa Rushmori, making it to the Round of 16 where they just narrowly lost to Saintland 1-0. Another appearance at the 26th Copa Rushmori saw one of the biggest victories ever tallied by this team, with Pridnestrovia emerging as 8-2 winners over Parodys, but they were unable to carry over this kind of scoring momentum into the quarterfinals and they were soundly beaten by Eastern Sunrise Islands 3-0.

Pridnestrovia's closest shot at winning the Copa Rushmori also came under Ceausescu's tenure, making it as far as the third place playoff where they were unfortunate to lose to Nephara on penalty kicks. But Pridnestrovia's greatest triumph under Werner Ceausescu is undoubtedly the win at the 3rd Global Cup of Soccer in Kebec and the Second Brazilian Empire, with Pridnestrovia clinching the trophy after coming from behind against Rhineland Sued to win 3-1. But all this, while not forgotten by the Pridnestrovian Football Union in their decision to sack Ceausescu from his position, will have been balanced against the run of seven consecutive losses sustained by the men's national football team in the current campaign.

The problem for the Pridnestrovian Football Union now is who they should bring in to replace Ceausescu at the helm to generate better results out of this team which, on paper, is more than capable of challenging with the big boys of multiverse football. A few early contenders include Ivan Krasnopresnensky, who was sacked by CSKA Tiraspol after another poor Pridnestrovian Super League campaign, and Bohuslav Gavrilyuk, who didn't have the best of managerial debuts with relegated Elektrik Admiralnaya but was still praised for his effort to drag the team out of the relegation zone. The Pridnestrovian men's national football team could do with some of that fire, vim, and vigor in their bellies to get them out of their shameful ninth place.

For the meantime, Ceausescu's assistant, Martin Pavle Gormesyan, will handle the team until a suitable replacement is found.

With the Kyrjasmark about to head to the polls for an election, early signs are that the people may not vote as normal. A NatPoll survey of over 10,000 respondents from all demographics suggest that the ruling Konservative Solskop may not win, polling in 6th place. Worse news however came for the opposition, who the poll suggest will plummet off the face of the planet, and could lose 50 or 60 seats. Currently the left-wing party holds 140 of the 600 seats in parliament. The top polling party was the Jord party, which raised eyebrows giving the decline of other left-wing parties on the poll. Other parties to poll ahead of expectations were the Aesiri Demokratic Konservativer, a surprise at a time when the perception is that the Aesiri faith is in decline, and the Jord Selskop and Frigi Kyrjasmark Selskop.

The results show that Kyrjasmarkian voters seem prepared to leave the regular parties behind in favour of parties with a heavy single focus, such as religious conservatism (ADK), conservationism (JORD), or republicanism (FKS). It speaks of a populace that has had enough of the status quo, and is dividing itself into specific groups depending on what single issue is most important to them. The challenge for all parties, but especially the government and opposition, is to respond to these issues with real change. Otherwise, a change may be coming, one that they will not like.

OOC: Bit of a knowledge dump at the halfway point.

Teams of the K-league

Maethoru
City, Region: Maethoru, on the Western Bay coast
Founded: 1960
Ground: Maethoru Valley (37,000)
Background: Maethoru isn't Ko-oren's oldest club by far, but it has established itself as a strong tradition - at least as strong as the older clubs in the league. Its success and its devoted fans are both hated and respected throughout the competition. It isn't very close to any other club but calls Aminey its prime rival because those two clubs have the biggest trophy cases, and meetings between the two clubs have decided several championships. Maethoru is also Ko-oren's most successful international team.
Rivals: Aminey

Branvón, Sta Teresa
City, Region: Branvón, a suburb of southeastern Santa Teresa
Founded: 1921
Ground: La Concha (21,000)
Background: Branvón is the workers' club of Santa Teresa, a city on the southeastern peninsula of Ko-oren. Branvón's fanbase is a hotbed for revolutionaries, have excellent home support, but rarely if ever have away fans travel with the team. The team's matches are often accompanied by political protests.
Rivals: Miradela

Alara

City, Region: Alara, on Alara island in eastern Ko-oren
Founded: 1983
Ground: Harbour City (12,450)
Background: Alara is the second youngest team of the league, founded to give those from the island a team to cheer for, lying in the middle between other small-market teams with great local support. Quickly, Alara climbed the ladder to where it is now, winning several cups and subnational competitions on the way. It draws support from three out of four eastern islands, all in protest against the fourth island's Katashi-Kanatsu.
Rivals: Katashi-Kanatsu

Tanques, Étouille
City, Region: Tanques, a suburb of Étouille on the Southern Bay coast
Founded: 1930
Ground: Parc Illuminée (23,800)
Background: Tanques is a popular club, run well, and qualified for several international competitions in its time. The stable environment has often provided the club with great teams to challenge the two largest markets, Aminey and Maethoru. Tanques are always accompanied by fans away from home, and tend to perform similarly at home or away.
Rivals: Aminey

Katashi-Kanatsu
City, Region: Katashi, the largest city on the eastern island of Leleia
Founded: 1905
Ground: Various, but most often Katashi Municipal (49,245)
Background: The 'arrogant' (fans call it successful and traditional) club from the southeast does things its own way. Ownership of the team passes from father to son like a dynasty, and is often accused of being a shady business. Fans do not have a great voice in how the club is run. They have not had a lot of luck in terms of growing great players, but they have had their moments.
Rivals: Alara

Miradela, Sta Teresa
City, Region: Miradela, a suburb of southeastern Santa Teresa
Founded: 1921
Ground: Estadio Finisterre (36,500)
Background: Miradela is Santa Teresa's rich part, founded in the same year as their rivals of Branvón. Every year since 1921, the two clubs have played each other at least twice, the oldest rivalry in Ko-oren. Miradela often have an old team, and relies on cutting edge technology to keep those old players healthy. They can provide a second boost to any player's career.
Rivals: Branvón

Aminey SC
City, Region: Aminey, the largest city of Ko-oren, on the southwestern Bay coast
Founded: 1890
Ground: Stade sur la Baie (64,500)
Background: Aminey is Ko-oren's largest club in terms of membership, media attention and finances. Fans are loyal to the team, but not always to the players. The club demands success and does not shy away from draconian measures to attain it, even to the detriment of long-term success.
Rivals: Maethoru, Tanques, Schemerdrecht

Schemerdrecht
City, Region: The city of Schemerdrecht, the largest city on the Northern Bay coast
Founded: 1899
Ground: De Waagschaal (21,750)
Background: Schemerdrecht is the team that is supported by the largest 'area' of people: fans in more cities, towns and even states call Schemerdrecht their favourite team compared to any other team in the league. The club is capable of selling out a stadium three times the size of their current stadium, but is conservative to a fault.
Rivals: Straudum, Aminey

Straudum

City, Region: Straudum, in the northeast, at the bay's opening
Founded: 1986
Ground: Sudaefjöll State Stadium (16,550)
Background: The youngest team in the league, Straudum is a business venture founded to chip away at Schemerdrecht's market. Where that team does not jump into markets and untapped revenue, Straudum was founded to do exactly that, and they have formed a solid fanbase while doing so. They often sell players before they earn their biggest contracts, and often make decisions based on finance rather than sporting success.
Rivals: Schemerdrecht

Cirelbourne
City, Region: Cirelbourne, near the south coast
Founded: 1879
Ground: The Silver Stadium (21,050)
Background: Cirelbourne has extremely devoted fans, which you often see in industrial towns. Cirelbourne attracts fans from the other large cities in its state, which provides quite a bit of revenue it needs to compete with the larger teams in the league. The ancient team play their home games at the highest elevation of all, which acts as a 12th man.
Rivals: Bruncester

Bruncester
City, Region: Bruncester, near the south coast
Founded: 1881
Ground: The Bronze Bowl (34,600)
Background: Bruncester is the smallest market of the league, overshadowed by even neighbouring Cirelbourne. The industrial town supports the team through thick and thin, but even that is not always enough. Bruncester is the league's story of 'close, but no cigar' and has so far not won any big trophies.
Rivals: Cirelbourne

Maynard
City, Region: Maynard, sheltered by the western mountain range in central Ko-oren
Founded: 1900
Ground: Beverly Hills (16,190)
Background: Maynard is an old club, but it was only recently promoted to the league. This was done to create a new market near all the large cities in central Ko-oren, but despite the financial decision to promote the team, it has quite an old and loyal fanbase. They quickly got rid of the business model of always making financially sound decisions, and like Tanques, provides a stable environment for developing players and teams to challenge whatever comes at them.

Qualification Round-Up: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
@ Zoloroni Sports City Stadium - Zoloroni, Mercedini

We're nine games into Mercedini's World Cup Qualification campaign with half of the matches being played before the mid-qualification break and subsequent reverse legs of all of the group stage matches played prior. Its been a rather bumpy first half of qualification with plenty of excellent performance combined with a few disappointing results, we will look back on the first half of qualification and rate the Golden Eagles' chances of qualification and how they can turn it around in the return legs. As always, we will add an MSD twist to the article, as we go over the good, the bad and the ugly parts of Mercedinian qualification.

   Group 10 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts H A
1 The Holy Empire 9 8 0 1 29 16 +13 24 1-2 -
2 Abanhfleft 9 7 1 1 27 14 +13 22 3-4 -
3 Mercedini 9 6 1 2 28 15 +13 19
4 Alpine Union 9 3 5 1 16 15 +1 14 - 1-1
5 Equestrian States 9 4 2 3 12 14 −2 14 - 4-2
6 Lisander 9 4 0 5 20 19 +1 12 3-2 -
7 Indusse 9 2 3 4 10 15 −5 9 - 2-0
8 South Toronto 9 1 3 5 17 25 −8 6 5-2 -
9 Bjornoya Islands 9 1 2 6 8 17 −9 5 - 2-0
10 New Doltania 9 0 1 8 10 27 −17 1 - 7-2

Going into the start of World Cup Qualification, many fans would accept that they would finish third outright considering they are a Pot 3 side in the group. However, given the circumstances, the team could have done a lot better when facing teams from both of the top two pots. Mercedini currently sit three points off a qualification spot after losing two of the final three matches in the first half, both losses coming against higher ranked opposition at home. Mercedini have scored in every match thanks to their stellar attacking force in Chillotov, Dostalok, Billic and Alotic, bot once again defensive frailties have cost them in big games.

The Good: Matches Against Lower Ranked Sides

Seven matches, six wins, twenty four goals for and nine goals against. The Golden Eagles have been having a good time of it against lower ranked opposition, only dropping two points in a one-all draw away at Alpine Union, while beating pretty much everyone else in rather convincing fashion. The highlight of qualification thus far has to be when 1860 Azoth striker Ben Chillotov hit five past New Doltania in a 7-2 rout away from home. In fact, out of the seven matches against lower ranked opposition, five were away from home meaning the team could record a better series of results when in the familiar surroundings of the Sports City Stadium. The biggest challenges to their unbeaten record will be facing both Alpine Union and Equestrian States at home, plus playing in Lisander. If they want to qualify, they will need to win most if not all of these matches to stay afloat in the qualification race.

The Bad: Matches Against Higher Ranked Sides

On the flip side, Mercedini's record against the two sides ranked higher than them is dismal, but not embarrassing by any stretch of the imagination. The Golden Eagles have played both Abanhfleft from Pot 2 and The Holy Empire from Pot 1, and have lost by a single goal both times. While the results on their own don't seem too bad, they combine to make for rather poor viewings for Mercedinian fans who see their team slip to third in the table, three points from qualification after seeing their team go top midway through the second half. The worrying factor about the two result is that they came at home, meaning it will be even more difficult for the team to get a result when it matters, especially when they need to rely on a point or two coming from the Abanhfleft and Holy Empire matches. It isn't impossible, although qualification will be made all the harder if it goes down to the final day.

The Ugly: Our Qualification Chances

So to our prediction for Mercedini's qualification chances as a whole. It's clear to see that Mercedini will need other results to go their way if they want to be in the draw for the 79th World Cup in Ceni and Drawkland. As long as Mercedini can stay within three points of their second placed rivals, there is everything to play for when it comes down to the match away at Abanhfleft. The Holy Empire looks to be strolling to the World Cup while it isn't as clear cut for the second spot which looks to be fought to the death by Abanhfleft and Mercedini. There doesn't look to be another nation who could spoil the duel between the two previously mentioned nation, as the Alpine Union in fourth is a further five points behind Mercedini and eight points behind a qualification spot. Even though the Golden Eagles will likely rack up a hefty goal tally against the lower ranked opposition, beating their main rivals looks to be a step too far for Mercedini, and we predict that they will miss out on another World Cup with a minimal qualification chance of 6%

After the mid-qualification break, Mercedini will be back in action as they hope to chip away at the advantage of the leaders when they play Indusse at the Sports City Stadium. Mercedini overcame the World Cup debutants with a 2-0 away win in New Hind City, and are heavy favourites to take the three points and hopefully close the gap on the top two. Points are beginning to run out for all teams in contention, with eliminations now in play as the points on offer tick down, so it's a race against the clock for the remaining thirty places in the World Cup.

Goal Glory Damages Credibility of Leading Strikers
by Danny Alexander

After 8 matches, Gavin Comi's team had a rather dismal goals for record for a team primarily focused on attack. Third in the table, they had been winning all their matches by a margin of 1 goal; not the sort of result you're looking for one of you have what should be two international-quality strikers with lots of international experience heading up the team.

What was especially confounding for the manager was that Samuel Mitchell and Wilmer Jaurequi - Ethane's leading strikers - had actually had relatively good seasons for their team in The Flame League, both scoring over 20 goals each across the season. Yet in the qualifying campaign alongside the season, they just couldn't find their form. They weren't scoring goals.

Come the end of the eighth match, with only 11 goals scored (not all of them by the leading strikers), Comi knew that he was going to have to make some changes. He had already threatened Jaurequi and Mitchell with the possibility of changing them out for some of the newer players in the team a few matches beforehand, but this threat hadn't made any difference on the performances of the two strikers.

Having given Jaurequi and Mitchell a couple of matches to improve and seeing no improvement, he realised he had to make changes. And so he did. He swapped out Jaurequi and Mitchell in the starting lineup for two newer strikers, placing Declan Smith and Scott Burgess in the lineup. The hope was that these fresher players would bring a new edge to Ethanian gameplay, and shake some of the opposition teams. Because of their recent form, Comi was confident that they could score goals where Mitchell and Jaurequi weren't, despite them having no experience internationally before this campaign.

And goals they did bring. The changes in the lineup, removing Jaurequi and Mitchell for Smith and Burgess, occurred just before the final game of the first half of the qualifying campaign. The Red Kites were at home, facing off against Legalese - a team heard of but never witnessed in Ethane before. And Ethane battered them. In the 90 minute game, the Red Kites were able to hammer in 6 goals. 5 of those goals came from Burgess and Smith, with Declan Smith obtaining a hat-trick in his first ever international start. It may have not been the hardest team to beat, but to come out on your debut international start and to score a hattrick is an impressive achievement, no matter the team you are playing. And to score more goals in 1 match than in half of the matches in the campaign so far is impressive as it is.

This victory wasn't only a success for Ethane, for Smith and for Burgess. It was also a massive embarassment for the established strikers of Jaurequi and Mitchell. They had been struggling to score all throughout the campaign so far. You remove them and add 2 new strikers to the team and suddenly we're scoring a large quantity of goals. It does somewhat point a finger at what the goal-scoring problem was in the team during those earlier matches. Whether the diagnosis that Jaurequi and Mitchell were the problem that caused the low number of goals is accurate or not, this situation really doesn't help them.

Their role as the main established strikers in the Ethanian national team is now under threat. After that performance against Legalese, they will both likely be kept off the pitch for the next few matches to give the newer strikers a chance to assert themselves in the team. If they can keep up the performances observed in this match, then we could see Burgess, Smith, and some of the other new strikers to the team usurping Jaurequi and Mitchell as the main strikers of the national team. Comi could use this to usher in the new generation all across the team and let go on some of the last elements left over from the last regime under Curtis Steeling.

That all relies on good performances from the new strikers. If they can't keep up this performance, then Jaurequi and Mitchell will probably return to their role as main strikers. You have to remember that the two main strikers did score 2 goals against Valladares - the first seed in the group. If Smith and Burgess cannot replicate some of these performances and better their predecessors in this next half of qualifying, then Jaurequi and Mitchell are back in. Burgess and Smith have to work a lot harder to maintain their roles as the primary national team strikers than Jaurequi and Mitchell would have, as Comi will be watching their every move and analysing their performances to see if he should place Jaurequi and Mitchell back into the starting team.

It's certainly not looking good for the leading strikers of Ethane though.
Esportivan and Proud.

Poor Form Continues For Americans

Timothy Barzillai, Sports Columnist

Washington – Despite Greater Vakolicci Haven’s run of disappointing results, they proved no easier test for the Liberated American Provinces. The Americans fell to a consecutive 2-0 defeat in Greater Vakolicci Haven’s capital city of Iros.

In the 21st minute, Gonzalo Ramos turned the ball into his own net after a low driven cross was hit into the box. The defender severely miskicked the ball which spiraled past Harvard and handed Greater Vakolicci Haven the lead. It was only a glimpse of what was to come for the Rattlers. They struggled to maintain possession, managing only 37% in the first half. This improved slightly in the second half but not nearly enough. As with their possession, their shooting was rather terrible. The Americans only managed a single shot on target by halftime, this coming from Pullastick.

The second half was a similar story for the LAP. Greater Vakolicci Haven passed the ball around nicely and slid their striker in for a shot in the 76th minute. He put the ball in the back of the net, sealing the win for his nation. An overall sloppy performance from the Provinces destined them to defeat at the final whistle. They now sit four points behind Greater Vakolicci Haven in Group 7.

During the post-match interview, Coach Wallace confirmed that he would rotate the squad following the match. “I wanted to give the current squad one last chance to redeem themselves,” he said. He wouldn’t say which players he would be bringing up for the team’s second match against Petroslovania who currently sit in right above the Liberated American Provinces with ten points. That match will be held at the Championship Arena in Petroslovakia.

Pressure is mounting on Wallace to get results, and there are rumors that he may be sacked if his team suffers another defeat. Reportedly, some clubs in the American League are already inquiring as to the possibility of him joining their coaching staff. The American became a favorite among the fans after the LAP’s positive showing in the Baptism of Fire 66 but with the recent performances, his popularity is faltering.
The flag is based on the proposed US coat of arms from 1776. These arms were designed by Pierre Eugene du Simitiere for the First Committee to be used the on the Great Seal in 1776. They represented the "the Countries from which these States have been peopled." Those countries were England, Scotland, Ireland, France, the Netherlands (Holland), and Germany (HRE).

Halfway Through,
by Brittany Byers, Team Captain

Following our 1-0 win over the nation of Acronius, we have officially hit the halfway point of our qualifying schedule. It provides then, a chance for some rest as we get ready for the second half. In the meantime, CASE has scheduled a couple of friendlies for us during this mid-qualifying period, as we will be taking on both the Equestrian States, as well as Drawkland. Both matches are exciting in their own ways, given that the match against the Ponies will be for the newly created Pink and Purple Cup, and then the exciting match at Concord Heights Stadium against Drawkland. We will play them again after qualifying. Not sure what stadium it will be at right now, but perhaps it will be at their new stadium which they are still trying to determine the perfect name for. The games will allow us to have another quality test so that we stay on top form, because the second leg of qualifying is going to be more difficult, since the games against the key teams we are battling right now are both on the road. For Drawkland, it’s one of a few opportunities that they will have to make sure that their national team is fresh and ready to go. That’s an important thing for the nations that get the automatic qualifier. I am not currently sure what coach Sweeney has in mind for these games. She has hinted at the fact that we might test some things against Equestrian States, particularly. CASE has another very exciting announcement in the works which may be made public very, very soon.

The win over Acronius puts at 7-1-1, and leading the group at the midway point. There is still plenty of soccer left to be played, so we are not going to get too crazy about being in first. We’re also, after all, two points out of third, and as I mention over and over again, the second half, with who we play at home, and who we play on the road, is a far more difficult half. Right now, the important thing is that we took care of what was possible to take care of to this point. Only one loss, against Coldfield, who still figures to be a contender in this group. The draw, against Valladares came early, and it will probably seem to some of you as though that away match against them is only a couple days away. To win these games, sometimes you need to get a goal from an unlikely source, and as this game played out to a 0-0 draw for 77 minutes, it would be Jennifer Hoosick picking up the goal on a play that was really just meant to be a pass. I feel so good for Jenn, too, because of what happened to her with the Legalese goal. This time, Jenn was looking to set up Hannah Ranucci in front of the net, hoping for a header on net, but the ball sailed a little too high for Hannah, or the defender to get. The keeper, Marc De Brassi, despite being really good all game, flubbed it a bit. Slow to react, he seemed to think that it would also sail over the net, but the ball broke sharply, and snuck into a space between his outstretched hand, and the crossbar to give us the lead. Sometimes, the goals are fancy and are of the highlight reel type. And sometimes, you catch a little break. In this match, that little break meant an important three points.

With one half done, there’s still nine more games to go. A couple friendlies in the meantime, first.

Win Baby Win

Keeeeeeeeeep it coming lady fortune is certainly the mood out of the Echani national football team as they celebrate a day off from combat and look set to go into the second half of qualifying with three wins from their last three. After a draw and two losses before that, this is like a sweet, sweet rain in the desert, just gorgeous. But let’s look in the rear view mirror for just a sec here as we flash back to our most recent clash, the away fixture at Bostopia.

I think it’s fair to say there was no sense of complacency coming from the Echani team prior to the match against an unranked team; Alexio del Nieran had long made it clear that he was going to go out with a full strength team despite some who would see this as an opportunity to rest some players. I mean he has a point; it’s not like we were clear at the top of the table and could afford to rest players, helllllll no. We need to earn every single point because we’re behind, and qualification is a long ways away.

And right from the first kick the Echani team looked set to justify that, with their passes sharp, their touches crisp, their attacking movements slicing through the Bostopian midfield and defense lines like hot knives through liquid butter, which is to say they sliced through very well indeed. Classic Echani brand football, always trying to score in the first ten minutes to set the tone for the match and force the other team to have to chase the Echani for the whole game. And this game was no different.

Got our first shot in the fourth minute when Magnum Cerelius, still filling in for a recovering Anthony Baudelio (don’t worry bby, he’ll be starting in Eshan’s next game have no fear), hit a pretty speculative shot from distance and the keeper had to dive but easily managed to push it out of bounds for a corner kick.

Gout our first goal in the fifth minute when Luke Bambic headed home Marco van Ciavatinni’s corner kick that game from Magnum Cerelius’ shot. Nice.

They had a really good chance when Darren Tran pulled a straight Simple Jack and went to pass the ball back to Aurélian Gautier but he passed the ball right to the opposing striker. He took a touch to steady himself for a shot on goal anddddd……managed to put it wide lol

The next ‘laugh out loud’ so to say was to be ours as well, when Eshan concluded a great spell of possession in the best way you can. Which would be a goal, because goals win games! After a good string of passes between our midfield and attacking trio, the false-nine playing Marco van Ciavatinni played a neat little one-two with Jean-Marie Bentacur and cut up to the 18, where he rolled the ball right back into the path of a crashing Bentacur. BOOOOOOOOM went his mighty and fearsome right leg, and the net just about burst from the power of his shot. 0-2 in the 28th minute, not too bad.

A nice, if fortunate bit of play got them one back in the forty third minute, when Steven Tadeo gave away a free-kick at side of box. The Bostopian taker hit it into the center, where Darren Tran only managed to clear it up to the top of the half-moon of the box. One of their midfielders did brilliantly to hit a ball that beat our offsides trap, and Aurélian Gautier was left helpless as the ball was shot past him. 1-2. Shame. Pls don’t mess this up.

Halftime came and Eshan was the better team on the scoreboard, on the stateline, on paper, on play, just needed to get another goal or two or who knows how many to put the game away, that would do quite nicely indeed. Gotta catch up to Chromatika, but the Echani fans were definitely feeling good going into the second half.

So that’s why it really hurt when we shot ourselves right in the leg, like BANG like I meant shot as in a gun, a bullet right through the leg of yours, and mine, and all of our legs at the same time, one leg, one bullet, well many bullets through all of our legs, but one bullet through our one leg. Anyways they hit a curled in free-kick given up by Samper Markovic from about 22 yards out in the 48th minute to tie it up at 2-2.

Brutus Aurelianus came in for Artemis Montanari, a more physical presence for a more cerebral, yet similarly tall player, both standing over 6’3’’, in the 58th minute. With no goal yet to be found by the 67th minute, it was Marshawn Mercury who made way next, with the quick and skillful dribbling Alessio Cernari coming in to replace him.

With Cernari dribbling at speed straight at the defender from the strikers position, it gave a lot of room for Marco van Ciavatinni, who was happy to let his teammate clear the way for him. This happened on one such occasion in the 71st minute, when Cernari burst forward at the defensive line. After that, MvC sliced into the open space he left, Cernari cheekly backheeled the ball to Marco at the edge of the 18, one touch to steady him, second touch to put the ball in the net, helllll yes god thank you! 2-3 to Eshan.

Final sub came in the 80th minute, when Jean-Pol Roland, who has been getting some great playing time and looked pretty spectacular at the 19 years of age, came on for the similarly named Jean-Marie Bentacur. Cause they have the ‘Jean-’ thing in common you see.

And it proved to be an inspired substitution as Jean-Pol Roland hit a beautiful ball from the center circle all the way through the midfield and defensive line like a knife through liquid but–oh wait I already did that one. Anyhow, the stupidly accurate pass went right to Marco van Ciavatinni, who lobbed it over the goalkeeper to make it 2-4 to Eshan, game set and match!

We go into our next matchday looking good at second place in the group. We’re three points behind group leaders Chromatika, and tied with but ahead of Eastfield Lodge on 19. Boring Paradise is two behind in fourth place, and Banija four points behind in fifth place.

So a lot can obviously happen in the next nine games. 27 points. We’re looking good, but we can do better, and we will. And when the Echani hit their stride, as they seemed to be doing, watch out.

WC79 - Better with Cocoabo Final 5

Postby Turori » Tue Dec 05, 2017 10:21 pm

Image

Cocoa-bo, an establishment taking its name directly from the beloved national animal of Turori, started as a small dessert shop in Kionao. However, it was only after they added chocolate topped drinks to their menu that their popularity started to soar. As more and more patrons scooped up their chocolate flavored pick-me-ups, demand for the Cocoa-bo product skyrocketed and soon new franchised locations were popping up all throughout Turori. Shifting to more of a social 'hang-out' then just a casual place to drop in, get a dessert, and leave, the new locations started adding small foods such as Bagels for the morning, Soups and Sandwiches for Lunch or Dinner and Salads for the entire day. Cocoa-bo has expanded outside of Vilita & Turori. Their first regional location was opened in Andossa Se Mitrin Vega and the company continues to explore avenues to further increase its image, expanding the company footprint across Atlantian Oceania and beyond.

Cocoa-bo has been taking its now-famous marketing campaign, "Everything's Better With Cocoa-bo" on the road along with the Turori National Team, bringing to bus stops, digital screens and social outlets the image of the host countries flag and backstory 'altered' to show how it would be "Better with Cocoabo"...

While they could simply take the Cocoa-bo campaign to the 9 nations that the Turori National Team would be competing against during the World Cup 79 finals, that prospect seemed both overly exclusionary due to the number of potential nations that would be left out in such a campaign, and somewhat fruitless, as some of the marketing dollars would not be well spent in the more uninteresting locales the Turori National Team, through no fault of their own, would end up during the Qualifying Cycle... such as U-62.

So the folks at Cocoa-bo decided to leave it up to a poll to see what the next nation that would be "Better with Cocoa-bo" would be!

The first round of voting permitted participants to put forth as many nations as they wish for selection. Any nations which were not put forth as a future target for being Better with Cocoabo, as well as any nations which only received a single nomination for being Cocoa-bo'd were eliminated from consideration.

The second round of voting contained 24 nations and the number that could be put forth for further consideration was limited. Half of the nations would be eliminated and put forth into a more serious round of voting which would include on-site visits by representatives from Cocoa-bo to begin to piece together a plan should that nation ultimately selected to be betterified by means of Cocoa-bo.

After adding the budding nation of South Covello and the similarly harsdhipped nation of 95X to the proceedings, the third and final round of ballot reduction polling was able to begin. While the field of nations open for consideration had been expanded to 14 from 12, the cuts to be made as a result of the polling were as stringent as any previous round. Instead of retaining at a very minimum half of the considered nations, just five nations would survive the final cut and move on to the final consideration round.

Unfortunately for the Turori-based brand even more regionally convenient Atlantian Oceania based nations would be eliminated during the third ballot polling phase including the aforementioned 95X and the five-time World Cup champion nation Valanora.

Making the cut, however, would be the Equestrian States and Starblaydia, the only two Atlantian Oceania native locations to remain under consideration by the Cocoa-bo team. Joining them would be Cassadaigua, Northwest Kalactin and finally the in-flux situation as developing in the Former land of the Almighty Gregory - or South Covello.

Instead of being able to make multiple selections for future consideration, respondants to the open poll will have to consider all five remaining nations and rank them against each other before completing thier submission for consideration.

It was also time for the Cocoa-bo team to start drafting up full marketing plans for each country just to be prepared for the eventuality that at least one of those nations would be Better with Cocoa-bo within a short priod of time. Of course the wild card in the whole scneario was the former Gregorian lands now pushing ahead in their existence as South Covello. It didn't take long for the marketing teams to meet before someone realized the massive opportunity that Cocoa-bo-ing in South Covello could mean. They could never have done it on site during the reign of Lord Gregory.

Now, however, with Greory no longer calling the shots, such comedic commercial punditry would likely, at the very least, not result in execution. In fact, if the Cocoa-bo team played their cards right, they could gain not only a small grass roots advertising campain for its international brand sponsor but also a place permanently etched in the history of South Covello. What would be the symbols of revolution? the Cocoa-bo team thought? What if a Cocoa-bo-ized flag of South Covello was not only tolerated but embraced as a symbol of the changing times - as a symbol that you could now exercise certain freedoms and liberties not previously available to the local citizens. It could even end up in a Museum one day.

10 Lambdasia 9 1 1 7 14 34 −20 4 9 (285)
In first glance, one would say everything is going according to plan. Look, the top four seeds placed one through four! But... Look a little deeper and see how tight the group is. Eastfield Lodge, tying Eshan. Boring Paradise just two points behind, and Banija, little Banija, punching way above their weight. The one suffering is Buyan, who has put away their Manager for that. The Kiaser Colonies, Reuss-Lippe, and Lambdasia are doing the best to play spoiler.

Let us look at the remaining schedule for the Chromatiks: At Buyan, Vs. Boring Paradise, At Bostopia, Vs. Reus-Lippe, At Eastfield Lodge, Vs. Eshan, At The Kiaser Colonies, Vs. Banija, At Lambdasia. The toughest matches will be on the road as always, as Buyan and Eastfield Lodge loom. The revenge matches against Boring Paradise and Banija will be sweet at home. Here are the expected matches for each match, realistically:

@ Buyan - will be a hard match, expect them to play with some vengeance on their mind. Draw?
vs. Boring Paradise - revenge, revenge, revenge! Imagine the starters will play and get their due. Win.
@ Bostpia - second stringers? Depends on how things are going, really. Should win still, rather easily.
vs. Reus-Lippe - a pivotal chance to rest starters, provided they don't drop any points.
@ Eastfield Lodge - hardest match left on the schedule, especially if we've dropped points up to this point. The next two can really shape everything.
vs. Eshan - expect the Dome to be a-knocking! Crazy spirited win, please!
@ The Kiaser Colonies - hopefully not a letdown after the two tough matches. Maybe a draw? Nah, Parker has the players too well trained.
vs. Banija - revenge, part two. Face the full might, Banija.
@ Lambdasia - hopefully by this point the game will be moot, and we can rest everyone.

Stay tuned for further coverage!

SJW Rebellion Collapses After Charter Society Announcement
By: Walter Snyder

The recent announcement by Consul Nicholls of his plan to turn the 32 so-called "Leftist Republics" into Charter Societies that will be free to pursue their own independent course under the protection of the Free Republics has led to a mass revolt within the territory claimed by the rogue SJW terror-state calling itself the Confederacy of Leftist Republics. Millions of people have risen up in the past few days in a campaign of guerrilla warfare to bring down their tyrannical government in exchange for the promise that they will remain free to move out of the Charter Society whose territory they live in after the war is over.

As the people finally rose up against their "Progressive" oppressors in an all-out assault to bring down their Satanic tyranny, Consul Nicholls has ordered an offensive to bring down the CLR's army, which is comprised of genetically engineered reptilian super-soldiers who wish to create a Prison Society. Republican forces have engaged rebel scum in a number of battles over the past 24 hours and have emerged victorious each time, with several assists from local guerrilla forces.

The most notable success has been in Malifornia where this popular revolt against tyranny first began. The Republican Army has now defeated rebel forces in Malifornia and driven the rebels out of the Republic House. For the time being, Malifornia is under military rule but Consul Nicholls is reportedly negotiating with several parties in an effort to establish a Charter Society there as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the Army has begun the process of building a beautiful 20-foot-tall Wall around the Republic's borders. The model for the Wall can be seen at buildthewalls.gov.republica and it is a true beauty, including several doors on major highways which will be heavily guarded.

The war against the rebellion will likely be over very soon but the task of rebuilding Republican society and ensuring that political extremism does not threaten our freedom, our security or our stability ever again will be a long one. The coming introduction of Charter Societies as a means to contain extremist groups will be a critical part of the solution. Another major part of the solution will require the marginalization of the extreme left fringe which has not only rebelled against our society but also brought both Kulseth and O'Reilly to power by terrifying many well-intentioned people into voting for those tyrants as a means of controlling the far left. There can be no place in the Republican society of the future for these so-called "social justice warriors" or for anybody else who promotes division and hatred. It is time to do unto them as they would do unto us by denying them a platform to spread their vile beliefs, driving them out of our universities and systematically depriving their political candidates of coverage (and no, freedom of speech does not mean that we have to grant them a platform from which to subvert and destroy our society). Otherwise, we will only see further outbreaks of political extremism in the future and we will never again know what it is like to be free and live in a peaceful FFR.

Centralis Herald - Sports Section - Stewart Faraday

Editorial: Mi-Soo Wrong

Mi-Soo, the coach of the Flardanian football team refuses the characterisation that I said that our relationship is akin to an unreciprocated rivalry and I still stand by that claim. First, let us dive into the dictionary definition of rivalry: 'a situation in which people, businesses, etc. compete with each other for the same thing.' Indeed, as exhibited by our statistically unlikely series of encounters in many cycles (admittedly, the last time we were in the same group has been quite a while), we have often been adjacent to each other seedings wise, competing for a small number of spots (usually one or two, depending on if a team is already certain to advance) in order to enter the next stage of the competition. So in that sense, yes we are dictionary-definition rivals, because we are competing for spots. The reason why it's unreciprocated is that we tend to beat them, and that is totally not under dispute by anyone (which I'll come to later on in my editorial).

I realise that simply listing a dictionary definition and giving the point may not be enough for Mi-Soo, so I have decided to approach this in a more forensic matter: what does it really mean to be in a rivalry? To be in a rivalry means to have those heartbreaking moments against another person. It doesn't necessarily have to be two-sided, rivalries can be one-sided, like Blue constantly losing to Red, or Centralis Herald not being able to topple Celtic Noviodunum. With that in mind, there are many examples where this has been the case for both nations. The prime exhibit would be World Cup 73, where despite draws against top seeds Apox and Valanora, Flardania failed to advance by virtue of a loss against Electrum, a team in their words, the one team on paper they have a chance of beating. If that's not a rivalry, I don't know what is.

Flardania should embrace their underdog status, and Mi-Soo should recognise that: it's not about seeding or ranking or whether or not it's been one-sided, it's the belief that you can win that counts. That's what the Electrumite national team did last time -- by adopting a defeatist attitude and saying "Infrequent meetings with predicable outcomes" as well as "Tough match ups ... and plainly put competition," with regards to Electrum is the most disgraceful thing a manager can say. Never, in all my years in journalism, have I ever seen a manager so openly conceding that their team will always lose to another while the competition is being held. It is damaging to the player's morale, and Mi-Soo should know better. She is clearly in the wrong, and as a role model, she should recognise that. Answering carefully and with poise are attributes of good managers, not abruptly calling off a press conference as a result of one question. Despite what Mi-Soo says, I personally still think Flardania is in with a shot in defeating Electrum, especially when they're playing at home, and have improved so much in the past few cycles.

I myself will be making my way to Flardania for the match, and I hope for the match to be a close and exciting one. Let's hope she doesn't bite me in the press conference.

CHAPTER IX - IT BEGINS

Sunrise's House
Friday, 7:00 AM

His eyes opened.
All he could hear was some loud knocking on the door.
It sounded desperate.
He tried to rush his way to the door, still yawning a bit.
As he opened the door, he finally saw it.

[Sunrise] - Uh... Katsu.
[Katsu] - Sir!
[Sunrise] - ...It's Friday, isn't it?
[Katsu] - Yeah, but I'm very eager to-
[Sunrise] - It's a Holiday, Katsu.
[Katsu] - Sir, it's very important I learn everything I can!
[Sunrise] - No need to be conceived, Katsu. You'll learn things with time.
[Katsu] - Sir, haven't you seen what was on the television just now?
[Sunrise] - ...
Sunrise did a double take.
[Sunrise] - I was sleeping. Like everyone else. Besides maybe you.
[Katsu] - I-It's horrible... A group of thieves stole a package of Z-Crystals!
[Sunrise] - Wait... Z-Crystals?
[Katsu] - Yes! Can I enter? I really could use sitting down... Had to come running from my place.

Katsu struggled his way to the couch.
Sunrise picked up a glass of tea.

[Sunrise] - So, can you explain it better?
[Katsu] - Well, I always wake up early and watch the news.
[Sunrise] - And that's where you found out about it?
[Katsu] - Yeah. The organization apparently goes under the name Xtreme Destroyers but that's all we know.
[Sunrise] - Well... That sounds a bit... thing from the 90s?
[Katsu] - Sir... I implore you. I want to know everything I can so I can face them!
[Sunrise] - That's... odd. Any reason why you're so... y'know, upstart about it?
[Katsu] - Z-Crystals are very powerful things... I've been reading about them ever since the United Districts sent a team of researchers to West Sarasaland.
[Sunrise] - Hmmm... I believe I've heard about those things, now that I think about it.
[Katsu] - They can enhance the power of a list of attacks... And if someone with evil intentions gets their hands over it, which is probably what happened, they could destroy the world, let alone the city!
[Sunrise] - Well, that's... fairly noble. Tell you what. Why don't you go to the backyard and try hitting the punching bag? Remember what I told you about using your wits. I'm going to get a bit of tea.

Katsu watched as his Hitomchan prepared a strike.
The Hitmonchan pumps itself up before moving closer to the punching bag.
He swerves once, he swerves twice.
And then finally punches the punching bag upwards, doing a Sky Uppercut.

[Katsu] - Now, Close Combat and finish it up with Mach Punch!

Hitmonchan waits until the punching bag returns to punching range.
He lands a furious barrage of hits before finishing it off with a Mach Punch, knocking it off the chains.
He then looked at his trainer, who simply nodded.

[Qasden] - Hey! Pamper him properly!
Qasden stood, arms crossed.
She still wore her pyjamas, of course, having just woken up.
[Katsu] - Uh... H-Hi.
[Qasden] - You know dad only allows people train here on Saturdays, right?
[Katsu] - Yes! But...
[Sunrise] - But a group stole a bunch of Z-Crystals. I believe this is the perfect moment for our students to learn proper defensive battling and level them fast. Everyone must be prepared.
Sunrise smiles, patting Qasden on the head.
[Sunrise] - Good morning, sweetie.
[Qasden] - Same to you, daddy.
[Sunrise] - Sunrise. Katsu, I'm leaving you two to train. I need to contact the other students. Qasden here is one of the finest trainers I ever taught anything to. Listen to her and do everything she tells you.
She smirked, Katsu sighed.
[Sunrise] - And Qasden.
[Qasden] - Yeah?
[Sunrise] - Don't abuse him or you're grounded.
[Qasden] - Aw...

Evergreen Forest
Friday, 7:00 AM

Another morning started in the forest.
Usually a sort of training ground for Pokémon trainers after lunch, morning might've seen one jogger or two but it was mostly peaceful.
A Pachirisu dashed down a tree, stopping in the middle of the grass.
There, she found a nut. She started to chip off bits of the nut.
A swooshing sound started.
It got heavier.
The Pachirisu looked around, worried.
A sudden burst of light appeared.
The Pachirisu rolled from recoil.
An object landed near her.
A blue police box.

Image

[Doctor] - And here we are! Planet Macbeth, year...
He opens the police box's door, proudly presenting... a forest.
[Doctor] - ...2164? Where's the city? The airbase? The flying dogs!
[Nurse] - They're probably cosplaying as trees!
[Doctor] - Don't be obnoxious... I guess she sent us here instead of Macbeth.
[Nurse] - I just think you're not a very good driver.
[Doctor] - It's not a case of poor driving... Well, mostly. It's possibly the sign that something at this very time and place is wrong.
[Nurse] - Oh, clearly.
She lowered, picking up a fainted Pachirisu.
[Nurse] - Someone knocked out this poor little creature!
[Doctor] - Hold that thought! I just noticed something...
[Nurse] - As in?
[Doctor] - This place... we have been here before!
[Nurse] - How do you know that?
[Doctor] - I remember getting my shin kicked there... there and there.
He pointed to three different trees, sighing.
[Nurse] - Oh, when we found that little girl? Well, to be fair, I did tell you I could take her to her parents.
[Doctor] - Yes, but... I figured out it'd be easier than having to look for her father.
[Nurse] - The cheek of yours. I remember there's a station nearby, maybe we could get some info.

[Nurse] - Doctor, we don't even know what a Z-Crystal is.
[News Anchor] - The Z-Crystals, as shown here, are rocks capable of granting additional power to a specific set of attacks. Some of these, if paired with powerful Pokémon, could lead to severe destruction.

Papi Orientali Period(891-954)(Part 2)

After Pope Iordanus I's death, in 921, the war west on to the west's favour. The west annihilated the east in 921, in the siege of Torona, an important center of religion and commerce for the west, just a few days after Pope Isidoro III was appointed. The east's defeat raised worries in Scudelli and many cardinals gathered up and appointed a new pope, called Demetrius III, however since the current Pope hadn't died or resigned from his spot, Demetrius III's appointment wasn't recognised and he was the antipope, despite being recognised by the pope by more people. Quickly enough, tensions raised in Scudelli and the city was engulfed in flames in April of 927. The current Pope, Pope Isidoro III escaped to the second most major christian center of the east, the town of Demena.

Pope Isidoro III
Pope Isidoro III(Born Cyprien Leonardo Zavala, 861-954) was an Eastern Juven Pope that reigned from 921 to 954, when the Papi Orientali Period as well as the war between the west and east came to an end. He was born and raised in Demena, staying there his entire life, appointed as a cardinal of the diocese of Demena in 910. He was appointed Pope in 921, however his reign quickly turned out to be tubulent and due to his poor leadership skills and him being accused of being a bad christian, the cardinals gathered up and appointed Antipope Demetrius II as the legitimate pope. However, the Catholic Church of Juvencus as well as the rest of Sonnel accept him to be the legitimate pope. In 927, when Scudelli was engulfed in flames and Saint Paul's cathedral was destroyed, he moved to Demena, from which he led the church and Juvencus dell'est till his death in 954 with relative success, pushing Juvencus dell'ovest's armies to an area close to Torona. He was succeeded by Pope Leo II, a western pope, and the papal seat was moved back to Pomena the same year.

After Pope Isidoro's death, Juvencus dell'est's leadership was given to Timoteo Pape, who was in charge for most of the army of Juvencus dell'est. His leadership skills however,
were really poor and the country started losing battle after battle after battle. In 954, the siege of Scudelli ended in western success and Timoteo Pape died in combat a few months later. Juvencus forcibly reunified in 955, with the treaty of Vilan, for which the east had to submit to around 100 years of not having a cardinal, thus not a pope and all christian powers had to move to the west. The east was left in shambes which quickly got fixed, Saint Paul's cathedral of Scudelli was rebuilt and the construction of a massive cathedral dedicated to Saint George was in progress in Torona. the west's success over the east saw many easterners gather up to protest against the west but to no avail. In 100 years from then, the east could regain its strength and get a new pope for which all eastern counties were ready for all along.

WORLD CUP 79 QUALIFIERS: MERCEDINI VS ABANHFLEFT

By Malik Qazizadah

ZOLORONI, MERCEDINI - Abanhfleft edged out Mercedini for second place in the qualifiers of the 79th World Cup with a thrilling last-gasp victory at the Mercedinians' home in Zoloroni.

In a hectic and tense affair which saw all amounts of end-to-end stuff with almost every other attempt from both Mercedini and Abanhfleft ending with a goal being scored, it was perhaps fitting that it was a man who thrives on pressure like Tristan Lee who would get the eventual and very late match winner for the Revolutionaries.

It was all exciting stuff from the start; Kareem Dagen started off the scoring just in the fifth minute with a cleverly taken volley from Vitaly Zima's cutback to silence the 74,000-strong home crowd, but just five minutes later, Ben Chillotov got them rocking once again when he applied the finishing touch to Daniel Dostalok's cross from the left wing and score Mercedini's equalizer.

Chillotov then turned from scorer to provider as he and Dostalok engaged in one-two passing play which quickly bypassed the Fleftic midfield, and a mistimed sliding tackle from Fleftic captain Luke Edwards allowed Chillotov the space to both linger around the Fleftic box and search for a target wearing a black and blue shirt, and he found Dostalok in acres of space, and the Handon United man chipped the ball over the flailing arms of Carlos Cohen to give Mercedini the lead within nineteen minutes.

Mercedini then had to sit back and endure a flurry of attacks from the Revolutionaries, and Mercedini could have very well lost the game within this twenty-minute period in the first half were it not for the world-class goalkeeping performance that Daniel Hosset turned in, making an incredible seven saves in said span of twenty minutes, and it would take a Fleftic counterattack just two minutes from time with a running finish from Vitaly Zima which finally saw the Revolutionaries through Hosset's gloves.

The game then began to slow down a little at the start of the second half, but when Tim Crasic managed to score a banger from 30 meters out right at the hour mark, the game livened up once again as Abanhfleft chased an equalizer and Mercedini attempted to create a two-goal cushion between them and their higher-ranked opponents.

The Mercedinian lead would last all of only eleven minutes though as Vitaly Zima was dragged down just outside the box by Callum Aznelik, resulting in a yellow card for the Langtree United left back and a free kick for the visitors, which Andrea Marilungo turned in with a deft curling shot that managed to fool the normally confident and stoic Hosset.

With the game now just waiting to be taken by the side which wanted it more, both Abanhfleft and Mercedini unleashed their respective flurries at the other team's goals. The game became the Carlos and Daniel show with both Cohen and Hosset keeping Mercedini and Abanhfleft at bay, respectively, and the two goalkeepers made a combined twenty saves in the final nineteen minutes of the game, with Hosset just barely being the busier goalkeeper with eleven saves to Cohen's nine.

The honor of scoring the game-winning goal would end up falling, literally, to Tristan Lee in the last minute of added time when an attempted Mercedinian clearance, instead of going out of bounds for either a throw-in or a corner, ended up flying straight up into the sky, and with everyone's attention focused on the ball, all Lee needed to do was ghost his way into the box and then, when the ball landed right in front of him, volley it into the roof of the net.

Abanhfleft manager Ranulph Bustamante: This will become a classic match

Abanhfleft manager Ranulph Bustamante: "It was quite the crazy match. It's one of the best I've ever seen, although fans of defensive football may not like it as much. But it's got a little bit of everything for everyone like the goals and the saves. It's just a fantastic match, and a fantastic result. I also would like to give credit to Mercedini. They gave their all and that shows why they deserve to be competing for a World Cup place alongside us. And that's why I think this match will go down in history as one of the classics."

World Cup 79 Qualifying: Unexpected start sees Filindostan challenging for Finals spot

SAN MARCO - The Pula Garuda of Filindostan is still fighting for a World Cup finals spot.

The Filindostanis, who won the recent Baptism of Fire tournament, made a stellar start to their first World Cup qualifying campaign with six wins on the trot, including triumphs over Savojarna and Islana Lunigo before their win streak being put into an abrupt end, when Willy's team visited the Stadii di Bradini in Jhanna, Starblaydia, losing to the five-time World Cup champion 3-0.

Despite losing away, they kept their perfect home record intact after their 1-0 win vs Cosneolta, with a solitary goal by Yish making the difference. However, the other match in a back-to back home stand, this time in San Marco, ended their home match winning streak when they were blanked for the second time in their campaign, this time by Vilita, which fielded a mostly reserve squad. Arocki Tadalek and Purapal Eskily scoring the Jungle Cats' two goals.

After their 2-0 loss at San Marco, they headed to Red Blackiland to face the second seed of the group. It was a grueling away match where the hosts scored first. However, when the second half started, Filindostan finally found its footing and was able to equalize through Bochog's equalizer in the 65th minute, and the teams shared the spoils, 1-1. The result put Filindostan out of the qualifying places after Starblaydia had escaped with a 6-5 win over Jabok, which will be the Pula Garuda's next opponent away.

Willy will be hoping that they will replicate the start they had in the first half of the qualifiers and sustain it through the last four matches in order to qualify for their maiden World Cup Finals in their first attempt. The most recent to do this feat? The World Cup co-hosts, Drawkland two editions ago. The squad is expected to be trimmed to 26 players after the home match in Bandaroon against Undarat.

PRIDNESTROVIA HANDED THEIR SEVENTH STRAIGHT DEFEAT IN WORLD CUP 79 QUALIFIERS BY RAMPANT YUEZHOU

By Gustav Tyumenov

Image
The Pridnestrovian men's national football team walk off the pitch of New Army Stadium in sadness and dejection following their defeat against Yuezhou in the qualifiers of the 79th World Cup.

TIRASPOL, TRANSNISTRIA - The Pridnestrovian men's national football team were handed their seventh consecutive loss in the qualifiers of the 79th World Cup to leave them in dire straits--and ninth place--in Group 1 of the qualifiers, leaving the fate of the men's national football team manager Werner Ceausescu in the balance, with the Pridnestrovian Football Union set to deliberate on the fate of Ceausescu's job later on in the day.

To say that the players had lost their desire would be an understatement. The players of the men's national football team shambled around the field of play like the intergalactic space pirate zombies which now make up a good number of the squad of The Holy Empire, and it was this general apathy which allowed Yuezhou striker Fu Xi to dare score not only one goal against the Pridnestrovian Republic but three. The first of Mister Fu's three goals arrived in the unlucky minute number 13, with veteran Pridnestrovian defenders Aleksey Vasilyev and Yuri Tymoshenko getting caught ball-watching and not paying any attention to their markers, and the acres of space allowed by the two Pridnestrovian defenders meant that all Mister Fu needed to do was to stroll into the box, wave up a hand to call the attention of Jiawei Sangu, and tap the ball into the top right corner past Ferdinand Abbing's outstretched gloves.

The second of Mister Fu's three goals arrived barely two minutes after his first, and the Pridnestrovian defense was once again at fault for the doubling of Yuezhou's advantage, although perhaps it would be a bit unfair to call them out for their defensive failings when Mister Fu nicked the ball from the feet of Boyan Radev and kicked the ball from the edge of the center circle towards goal, catching out Pridnestrovian goalkeeper Ferdinand Abbing who had made a move forward in anticipation of a Pridnestrovian back pass. Abbing is usually more alert to changes in tempo in the middle of the game like this, but for once, the stalwart custodian of the Dinamo Bender and Pridnestrovian goal was beaten by a world-class long-range lob.

Pridnestrovia was able to salvage a single goal from this contest, and it came at the halfway mark when Boyan Radev and Peter Schermer, two Pridnestrovian players who at least appeared to still care about the outcome of this particular match, combined with some one-two-passing play to unlock Yuezhou's five-man defensive line before Schermer finally slotted home beyond Wei Haidong. This would turn out to be nothing more than a consolation goal, however, but it wasn't from lack of trying on the Pridnestrovians' part, or at least not lack of trying from the part of Radev and Schermer and, later on Akhmet Davidov of Fortuna Novonikolaysk, who surprised everyone in the Pridnestrovian Republic when he helped his side lift the 2022 Pridnestrovian Super League title.

Mister Fu Xi proved to be unstoppable, although when the unstoppable force meets three very much movable objects in the form of the Pridnestrovian defensive line, there wasn't much to stop him. Mister Fu completed his hat trick nine minutes into the second half with a scintillating solo effort that saw Mister Fu leave behind Adam Vadimenko in the dust, Aleksey Vasilyev on the ground, and Ferdinand Abbing seeing double as Mister Fu used some clever trickery to get deep into the Pridnestrovian box to score his and Yuezhou's third goal of the game.

A quarter of the spectators in the New Army Stadium had already left their seats in preparation for their journeys home to Tiraspol, Bender, and their other hometowns in the Pridnestrovian Republic when Yuezhou sealed the deal and the game courtesy of the controversial (from the Yuezhou perspective, at least) Wen Xiaoli, but there was absolutely nothing controversial about Wen's goal, as a cracking shot just inside the edge of the box at the D took enough spin and curve to completely bamboozle Ferdinand Abbing and leave him scrambling for nothing but empty air while the ball spun away from him and into the goal. President Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko, one of those who had resolutely remained behind to watch the game to its eventual and painful conclusion, could be seen shaking his head inside the Presidential Suite, where he spectates Pridnestrovian national football team games as well as select games by his supported side CSKA Tiraspol.

It is yet unclear whether the Comrade President's disapproval of the performance of the national team will have an effect on the future of the men's national football team manager Werner Ceausescu. Ceausescu led Pridnestrovia to the final of the 58th Baptism of Fire, the third place playoff of the 27th Copa Rushmori, and won the 3rd Global Cup of Soccer against Rhineland Sued, but all these achievements could be thrown out the window by the seven successive defeats sustained by Pridnestrovia in this current qualifying cycle for the 79th World Cup.

Pridnestrovian men's national football team manager Werner Ceausescu: The team is going nowhere

Pridnestrovian men's national football team manager Werner Ceausescu: “This is something that no manager ever wants to say ever in his life, whether it's in front of the fans and the media and everyone else or even just in the privacy of his own mind, but now there is no more place for hiding or shying away. This team is going nowhere. The momentum is gone. Nothing remains. We are all disappointed with the results, but I am the most disappointed because this is my work. It is my responsibility to set up the players to deal with their opponents. Whether the players themselves can do their jobs is another matter entirely. The responsibility lies with me to get these players playing. We did not build upon the momentum of the win against Brenecia. This is not what we wanted to see.”

Sjoedrhavn - The day after Savojarna's elections, the big story weren't the National Council elections - most of which will be decided in a runoff in three weeks - but the dramatic changes in results at the People's Assembly. This upper chamber of the Parliament used to be bigger after the Revolution, but as the country opened up towards women, who were not traditionally part of the workforce, the push for reform got bigger until the Council became more important in the 50's. Since the last major constitutional reform, the PA only has a veto power, but the veto of the PA has to be taken seriously when it comes to government formation. The PA gets elected 50/50 through worker's councils and local assemblies, usually also elected either based on occupation or locality, and it was traditionally dominated by the KPS and its union support. As a large part of Savojarna's powerful unions moved away from the KP for this election and supported the new Syndicalist Union, there was some shift to be expected, but definitely not the dramatic crash the KPS performed eventually. It previously had a comfortable majority of 76 out of 120 seats, which just fell down to a mere 41. This means that for the first time in Savojarna's history, the governing party of the country and "fathers of the Revolution" lost their majority in the PA.

However, as the KPS remains the biggest party in the Assembly (followed by the SU at 36 seats), forming a government without their consent is again going to be almost impossible. The SU and the KPS now are in an uneasy position of power, as both sides remain highly conflicted. The internal struggle of the Communist Party also remains largely unresolved, as many districts and constituencies saw a duel between Idealist and Pragmatist candidates who displayed widely varied alliances. Potentially the most striking example was given by the miners of Kjefla and Grennvik, two neighbouring districts, who first gave a majority to the incumbent pragmatists Haakon Rolfrsson (Kjefla) and Patrik Jonsson (Grennvik), but neither of which got the necessary absolute majority in the Worker's Council. Rolfrsson managed to retain his seat thanks to his challengers, Ingvaldsson (SU) and Traustason (KPS-I), bitterly attacking each other while Jonsson was evicted by the SU candidate Mikhail Petrov after his Idealist challenger, Asta Gudmundsdottir, quit the race in favour of Petrov. It remains to be seen whether or not the Idealists and the SU can work together in the Assembly to create a Great Coalition against the will of the Pragmatists, or if the latter can retain their control of the KPS. The current makeup of the KP fraction makes it hard to predict: Out of the districts where candidates clearly sided with one wing, 17 Pragmatists and 15 Idealists were elected, however nine current KPS representatives avoided positioning themselves in the debate and it is unclear who will lead the KP's Assembly fraction, given that previous leader Jannik Fredriksson lost his seat to the AP.

In other fractions, it seems like there is much more unity, which means that the KPS is likely to lose its meaning a lot faster than what was generally expected, while other parties will have an easier time asserting their policies in the PA. However, once again, it needs to be remembered that the second chamber only has veto power, meaning that there is likely no major shift in policy coming out of it - unless the SU goes into hard opposition, which is exactly what they threatened before the election. In the current situation, it is generally very hard to find any stable majority even within the secondary chamber, which suggests highly turbulent politics for the next few years. We have talked to our expert, Mr. Johan Ervik:

Mr. Ervik, the Savojar electorate shows a more divided picture than ever. The Syndicalists managed to take up most of the Union votes, winning an absolute majority of worker seats, while the KPS collapsed. Does that mean we might have overestimated the KP's power in the National Council elections as well?
The National Council and the People's Assembly do have some correlation, obviously - the same people vote - but we should not overestimate this effect. The National Assembly is being elected at the polls, not in the Council sessions of unions and local councils. This means that people are much more likely to follow their intuition rather than their party or union strategy, and I think this is going to hurt the SU and especially the Leninists. Look at the LKPS's share in recent years, which has always been much bigger in the PA, and you see what I mean. But I agree with you that this could be a highly interesting development in the mid-term. We don't have exact results for the National Council yet, and previous years showed us that usually, about 60 to 80 percent of seats go into runoffs - which I expect this time as well.

Does this have any major implications for the government, given that the SU didn't want to enter a coalition with the KPS?
Remember that they only said they wouldn't govern together with a strongly Pragmatic KPS. I don't think this means they will reject any government by the Party outright, especially if it is a coalition government with the AP. It is likely that a government can survive with a minority in the Assembly, as they usually can't produce a deadlock unless they really try hard. At this point, precedents with internal KP splits showed that this can usually be overcome by rewriting the draft, or just by support from other parties who are interested in a law passing. However, the KP obviously has more opportunities to discipline its own people, so it is unclear if the system still works with a deadlock between multiple parties. All of the parties know about their responsibility, so I'm generally not expecting too many deadlocks.

What does the first round of elections mean for the KPS split?
The first important thing to realise is that the KP was led by a broad internal coalition going into these elections, so it's hard to attribute the break to either wing. The Pragmatists tried to do that by saying that it was under the Idealist's challenge that the Party fell apart, while the Idealists claim that the loss of votes can be attributed to dissatisfaction with Carlsen. While this is somewhat backed by the strong result of the traditional opponents of the Pragmatists, the overall changes to the system seem too big to be used efficiently against either side. But what is highly relevant is going to be the result of the few KPS-internal runoffs we have - most notably Sjoedrhavn V and Jarnstad II, where we have two heavyweights of both wings facing off against each other - and the elections inside the party fraction. If the leadership of the KPS is going to be divided and broad, I think we can see a continuation of the largely unified party rule. If they all go to one wing, we might very well see a rebellion.

You already mentioned the runoffs. What do you think is going to be most relevant there?
The runoffs always become somewhat of a plebiscite about the desired government, as often there are majorities to be made. With the current calculations - remember that we don't have valid results yet - the runoffs are going to be held in around 77 percent of the constituencies, which means that this "plebiscite effect" is going to be smaller, as the outcome is less predictable. People who favour a broad coalition will probably reject the KPS-P out of fear of another four years of Johan Carlsen-esque rule. We have the uncommon situation of one of the major parties not having a valid chairman candidate going into the runoffs, so it is extremely hard to predict. I believe that the AP and the SU will heavily benefit from that and can snatch a few seats from the KP, but ultimately, they will probably do what they usually do and win the runoffs in most places. There isn't much to indicate a change in that pattern, but we can only say that with certainty in three weeks.

MoorishLand allowed themselves the luxury of starting with Luciano Lucas on the bench and still held out comfortably for a 0-0 draw at Mriin leader of the fourth group .

MoorishLand, who brought on Luciano Lucas early in the second half, enjoyed long spells of possession against a lacklustre Mriin in a dull Group 4 match which saw both teams apparently happy to play for a draw.

SBCNEWS Online...
Football special - The Road to Ceni and Drawkland. Part One

After what had been a surreal World Cup 78 cycle, the mathematics of the ranking system had conspired place Schottia at the top. Sitting at the top of something as precipitous as the WCC rankings can be a daunting experience, with nothing above you to cling on to, and a long way to fall. Short of lifting the World Cup next year, the only way was really down for Lionel Mah and his players, who would now have one almighty target painted their backs. Like running naked through a paintball range, Schottia's (somewhat) brave men and women would need to learn how to stay on their toes, as well as the importance of ducking. As far as their preparations for this WC-cycle had gone, it had been a bit of a mixed bag up till now. The Eagle's Cup had brought some good wins - most notably over the on form Nephara - but there had also been 3-1 final defeat to an impressive looking Cosumarite side. Lionel Mah had arranged one additional friendly at home to Pasarga, but after a closely contested match, the former world champions edged Schottia out in a 1-0 win.

Being ranked near the top is always a massive advantage when it comes to the group draw. However, with the fifteen-team format, there is always the prospect of drawing a particularly nasty team at the top of pot two. Ranked sixteenth, Nephara would have been a disaster, presenting Schottia with two fixtures they might not have even been favourite to win. Flardania and Ethane are also dangerous, while Super-Llamaland are probably overdue a win against us. Schottia were however, shorted alongside Nova Anglicana, not the highest ranked of the second seeds, but a side whom we have never had much good fortune against. On the face of it, the biggest threats in Group Six might have come from further down the rankings, with heavyweights, 95X, the name that jumps from the list. Sameba, Juvencus, and Tobiasia have all been around for a while too, and would expect to be in the mix for one of the two qualifying spots. Acapais, Britonisea, New Lusitania and the Algarves, and Vangaziland completed the list, and would be looking to see if they could cause an upset here or there.

95X 0-1 Schottia
Line-up: Gould, Watt, Doig, Souter, M.Ünterhausen, Conjure (Bánach), Stenberg, E.Killanen, Rudden (Rexmont), Coultan, Curren (Martel-Burns)
Goals: Coultan

Schottia arguably had their toughest qualifying match straight off the bat. You shouldn't let 95X's current ranking fool you; they are a well-established side, who would not look out of place at the WC finals. Schottia didn't have the best of preparations for this match, coming in off the back of the defeat to Pasarga, and with a mystery illness confining Connie Martel-Burns to the bench. Kingsgrove midfielder, Line Stenberg, was as surprise inclusion in the starting line up, as she looked to win her first cap for her country, while Lucy Curren made a rare start, leading the line in attack.

The first half was a real battle, with the home team proving they weren't going to be phased by facing the world's number one ranked side. Schottia keeper, Harry Gould, drew plaudits from the 95X press, pulling off a string of good saves to deny the likes of Larry Lewis, Micah Morrison, and Alyssa Yorkton. Schottia's best chance fell to Crawford City's Kim Coultan, who after taking the ball forward, played a nice one-two with Eoin Killanen, before firing just wide of the left post.

In the second half, the raw pace of Lucy Curren began to cause the opposition problems, and the Hondo FC striker was unlucky to see her shot expertly saved by Lacy Onefiftythird just on the hour-mark. Sixteen minutes later, however, Schottia broke the deadlock. After Stenberg had her attempt on goal deflected wide for a corner, substitute Martel-Burns swung in an expertly placed cross for Coultan to fire home under pressure. It wasn't Schottia's most convincing win in the last three years, but it was an important three points to kick off the campaign.

Schottia 1–1 Tobiasia
Line-up: Gould, Hordern, Doig, Souter, M.Ünterhausen, Conjure, Stenberg (McDonald), E.Killanen, Rexmont, Coultan (Soria Luna), Curren (Renshaw)
Goals: Coultan

Martle-Burns was absent from the squad for the visit of fourth seeds, Tobiasia, while Louis Hordern and Steven Rexmont came in, in place of Larry Watt and Chloe Rudden respectively. The impressive Stenberg kept her place in the midfield alongside Conjure, while Kim Coultan was rewarded for her goal in the previous match by being made stand in captain.

Despite looking comfortable early on, Schottia were able to make very little headway against a seemingly resolute Tobiasia defence. Rexmont did his best to get forward down the left, but other than that, a few wild efforts from Curren and Killanen were the closest the Auks really came to threatening Percy Matthew's goal in the first half.

Schottia finally found their range with fifty-seven minutes on the clock, once again thanks to Kim Coultan. The attacker, who had proved to be their most effective player in the opening two fixtures, curled home well aimed free kick to break the deadlock. It hadn't been a vintage performance from Schottia, but as they approached ninety minutes, it looked like it was going to be enough. However, deep into stoppage time, some nervy defending allowed the visitors to strike a blow. Gareth Souter really should have dealt better with Rosa Uzele, and allowed the attacker to set up Fraser Philips for a late, late equaliser.

Britonisea 2–3 Schottia
Line-up: Gould, Hordern, Doig, Paul, M.Ünterhausen, Conjure, Bánach (Adams), Alan, Rudden (Stenberg), Coultan, Renshaw (Curren)
Goals: Conjure, Alan, Curren

With Schottia reeling from a sluggish start to the WC Qualifying campaign, Lionel Mah made a number of changes to the side which failed to beat Tobiasia in the previous fixture. Stephen Paul was brought into the heart of the defence, Dilon Bánach and Alexander Alan were also handed starts in a new look midfield. Chloe Rudden came back in at the expense of Stephen Rexmont, and in Corinne Martel-Burns' continued absence, Ross Renshaw was preferred to Lucy Curren.

Schottia looked markedly better in the first half, with Rudden giving Jake Blake a torrid time, as she probed the right side of the Britonisean defence. Alan had a shot tipped over by North Quinton, and Coultan was unlucky not to find Renshaw with a cutting pass following a mazy run forward. It was a good start, however an opening goal would continue to elude them until the thirty-ninth minute. A neat passing exchange between Bánach and Coultan created the space for Evelyn Conjure to come forward, and the Brinemouth star found the mark from twenty metres out, to give her side the lead. When Port Sebastian winger Alan doubled the score line with a debut striker just after the restart, many of the visiting fans must have thought that was it. The former Kirk Preston winger did what he does best, skipping the challenge of Lucas Jérémie to bury the ball in the bottom corner.

It seems to be a feature of Schottia's campaign so far, however, that things just aren’t that simple. Goals from Forrest Manhandle and Alton Mleczko, at the start of the second half, ensured that you could have heard a pin drop in the Schottia end of the stadium. The visiting fans were getting restless, and Lionel Mah gambled on a double change with Handon United's Natalie Adams, and Lucy Curren entering the fray. Schottia's play was rushed, and a little bit panicked as they entered the final third, with several good chances squandered. With only eight minutes left on the clock, Schottia's hero emerged though, with the 29-year-old, Curren, scoring only her second international goal, to steady the ship.

Schottia 4–0 Vangaziland
Line-up: Gould, Watt, Doig, Souter, Carlin, Conjure, Stenberg (Bánach), E.Killanen, Rexmont (Vaught), Soria Luna, Curren (Brankovič)
Goals: Curren (2), Stenberg, Soria Luna

If ever Schottia needed a straightforward home win, it was in this one. A draw at home, and two less than convincing away wins meant hat Lionel Mah was - incredibly - a bad result against Vangaziland away from being under a little bit of pressure. Luckily for Schottia and their Quebecois manager, there were to be no upsets on the cards as the Auks ran out comfortable winners.

Schottia were missing Stephen Paul and Mark Ünterhausen for this game, meaning there was a start for Grant Carlin in a very 1860 Azoth flavoured defence. Goal scorer in the last game, Alexander Alan, was also out with a pulled hamstring, and Kim Coultan turned up for training suffering from fatigue and wasn't risked. Watt, Killanen, Stenberg and Curren all returned to the starting eleven.

If Schottic fans had been waiting to see Hondo FC's Curren replicate some of the form, which saw her take the Vanorian league by storm, then this was to be it. The former Maximum Rover star ran onto a Stenberg through ball like a flash to score her second of the campaign from a tight angle. The roles were then reversed shortly after, when Camile Soria-Luna turned neatly on the half way line before finding Curren with an accurate pass forward. The striker then laid the ball off to the on running Stenberg, who ghosted into the penalty area before sliding home her first international goal. In the second half there was a debut for Whitehaven Triumph teenager, Isaiah Vaught, who caused a fair amount of problems for Vangaziland, playing as a left-wingforward. The youngster even had a hand in Curren's second, picking out Killanen at the back post before he was able to head down for the striker to tuck the ball away. Schottia rounded off the win with a powerful, long-range effort from Marine Coast's Soria Luna, who really put her foot through the ball to score the side's fourth.

New Lusitania and the Algarves 1–3 Schottia
Line-up: McNott, Watt, M.Killanen, Souter, M.Ünterhausen, J.Ünterhausen, Stenberg (Morham), E.Killanen, Rudden (Coultan), Soria Luna, Curren (Martel-Burns)
Goals: E.Killanen, J.Ünterhasen, Martel-Burns

Schottia took some much needed confidence from the previous match, and as they travelled to New Lusitania and the Algarves, the players would have been keen to carry the momentum. Evelyn Conjure was the most notable absence for the Auks, as they took on the world's 274th seeds, with Cornellians' Johannas Ünterhuasen preferred as her replacement. Paul Doig also missed out through suspension, with Molly Killanen deputising. On a brighter note however, Coultan and Martel-Burns were both back on the bench.

Schottia were once again decisive early on, giving the home side very little time to settle. Line Stenberg has drawn comparisons to former Schottic captain, Colin Donaldson, so far this tournament, and the dynamic 22-year-old was imperious once again. Eion Killanen cracked in the first goal after a Curren strike deflected into his path at the edge of the box. Johannas Ünterhausen then more or less ended the game as a contest, as he rose above the defence, to nod a Larry Watt corner past the keeper. After missing the entire preseason with Polaris, there were rumours that Connie Martel-Burns might not have been at her best. However, the ball did fall kindly for the former St Johns Arsenal striker to score her fist goal of the Qualifiers, after coming on for the last ten minutes. Jermey McNott was in goals for this one, and the number two will have been gutted to have conceded a late goal, as New Lusitania and the Algarves grabbed a consolation with literally their last kick of the ball.

Sameba 0–1 Schottia
Line-up: Gould, Hordern, Doig, Paul, M.Ünterhausen, Conjure, McDonald (Stenberg), Alan, Rexmont (Vaught), Coultan, Curren (Martel-Burns)
Goals: Rexmont

Lionel Mah made several changes to the side ahead of the visit to Semeba, no doubt expecting a robust test in Rushmore. Ranked inside the top fifty, they were unlikely to be slouches, and the introduction of Jenny McDonald, Alexander Alan, and Steven Rexmont to the proceedings, showed that Mah was perhaps going for more of a physical edge.

In his second match for Schottia, Alan once again looked dangerous going forward down the right, and Lucy Curren only narrowly failed to connect with his twenty-eight minute cross, with the goal at her mercy. It was to be Alan's opposite number, Rexmont, who scored the only goal of the game however. The Chenoworth Harriers winger used his pace to sprint onto a Conjure through-ball from an on-side position, before unleashing his trademark left footed strike into the bottom corner.

Despite a solid away performance, there were little in the way concrete chances to speak of. Substitute, Isaiah Vaught stung the palms of the keeper late in the second half, and Louis Hordern saw a long-range shot go narrowly over in the dying seconds, as the team were running down the clock. Importantly, it was a win for Schottia in an away game which might well have proved tricky, and with five wins in a row, they were now building some much needed momentum.

Schottia 3–2 Acapais
Line-up: Gould, Watt, Doig, Koller, M.Ünterhausen, Conjure, Stenberg (Bánach), E.Killanen (Coultan), Rudden, Adams, Martel-Burns (Renshaw)
Goals: Martel-Burns, Adams, Coultan

Lionel Mah handed starts to Natalie Adams and Michael Koller for this game, as he went for a very different line up than the one that faced Sameba. The unavailability of Lucy Curren also meant that Connie Martel-Burns won her first start of the campaign, in what will be a big test of the Polaris girl's match readiness.

After a bit of a shaky start, Schottia managed to settle themselves down, and Martel-Burns couldn't really miss as a Chloe Rudden cross found her unmarked at the back post for one nil. 'Envy' Adams has not yet been able to fully replicate her outstanding domestic form in a Schottia jersey, and again, she looked a little uneasy in a more advanced role against Acapais. The Southern Sunrise Island born midfielder did produce some nice touches however, and raised the roof off the stadium with a stunning freekick just before half time.

Complacency was perhaps Schottia's problem as the match wore on, and they failed the heed the warnings, as the visitors went close a couple of times. With half an hour left on the clock, a miscommunication between Larry Watt and Harry Gould allowed Acapais to pull a goal back. Mah made the appropriate changes though, with Dilon Bánach and Kim Coultan coming on and making a difference. It was to the latter Schottia owed their thanks though, as she drifted in from the right side of the box, to half-volley a Paul Doig long throw into the back of the net. The game looked dead and buried, but there was to be a sting in the tail, as Schottic conceded yet another late goal, to make the score line look a little less impressive.

Juvencus 0–1 Schottia
Line-up: Gould, Hordern, Doig, Souter, M.Ünterhausen, Conjure (J.Ünterhausen), Stenberg (McDonald), Coultan (Alan), Rudden, Soria-Luna, Martel-Burns (Renshaw)
Goals: Stenberg

It was a six-pointer, away from home, and at a pivotal in the campaign for Schottia. Currently ranked 76th, Juvencus were in the middle of a good run and Lionel Mah would have undoubtedly been keen to put some daylight between them. There was still no Lucy Curren, meaning that Martel-Burns was in line for another start. Camile Soria Luna returned to the starting line up, while Kim Coultan was preferred to Eoin Killanen on the right.

It was a closely fought first half for Schottia, very reminiscent of Group Six's opening match against 95X, with chances at either end. Jaumet Albert blazed a header just over Harry Gould's cross bar from six metres out, while at the other end, Martel-Burns wriggled free of the attentions of Nicolò Bassi, only to blast into the side netting. The Polaris striker was looking more comfortable again, and as she drew a good save from Taddeo Bulgari with a distance effort, there was a feeling that the first goal was likely to come from her. There is another young woman making waves in Schottic football, however, and as the ball broke kindly to Line Stenberg on the edge of the area, the A-League star powered home a left footed strike.

Stenberg's was the only goal of a game that Schottia (just about) deserved to win. Oriol Vives did have a chance late on to salvage a point for the boys from Sonnel, but the visitors held out.

Schottia 4–2 Nova Anglicana
Line-up: Gould, Hordern, Robertson, Souter, M.Ünterhausen, Conjure, Stenberg (Bánach), Coultan (E.Killanen), Rexmont, Soria-Luna, Martel-Burns (Curren)
Goals: Martel-Burns, Rexmont, Curren, Soria-Luna

Schottia have had some memorably disappointing matched against Nova Anglicana in the past. They inflicted one of the back-to-back 7-1 defeats in CoH 64 that cost Barry Gorman his job, their victory over Schottia in WC 74 is another that weighs heavy on the mind of many Schottia fans. Lionel Mah went with a more or less unchanged line up, with Robertson and Rexmont coming in as straight swaps for the suspended Doig, and injured Rudden.

In the opening ten minutes Martel-Burns looked much more like the predatory goal scorer she was last cycle. The striker of Quebecois descent rattled the crossbar with what would have been one of her best goals in white and green, before she eventually tucked away the opener. A well put together, flowing move between Conjure and Soria Luna, opened the Nova Anglicana up, and allowed Martel-Burns to finish from just inside the box. Despite the strong start Schottia made, they were hauled back level by a visiting side, who were determined to prove they weren't out of it. As a result, the sides went up the half-time tunnel with the scores all-square.

A difficult tussle ensued in the second half, with both sides passing up good chances, before James Robertson played Steven Rexmont through for Schottia's second of the game. A few minutes later, substitute Lucy Curren headed in a third from a Soria Luna cross. Then, as the Marine Coast playmaker, skipped two challenges before adding a fourth herself, as victory looked a forgone conclusion. Nova Anglicana scored one more to make it 4-2 with ten minutes still to play, but by that stage there was little way back for the side ranked 32nd in the world.

So what's the verdict..?
Schottia are thrashing out the results, even if it hasn't always been plain sailing. The likes of 95X, Nova Anglicana, and Sameba were always going to represent tough fixtures, especially on the road; and with Juvencus and Tobiasia on good form too, there has been ample room for Lionel Mah's players to come unstuck. That said, Schottia have got through the first round of fixture, and even the WC 78 campaign had its hard-fought wins. There have been difficult transitions that needed to be made, as the team looked to curb its dependence on some of its aging stars, and that's meant having to be patient while the new talent looks to gel. There have also been injury problems for Martel-Burns, while both Rudden and Coultan have also experienced niggles.

The biggest positive to draw from the campaign so far is clearly the fact that we are sitting at the top of the table, and are thus far undefeated. Line Stenberg has very much lived up to her hype, showing herself to by a dynamic replacement for McDonald in the centre. Louis Hordern has also been very effective at right-back, while Dilon Bánach and Ross Renshaw continue to improve with game time. Most reassuring perhaps, is the fact that Schottia seem to have found another striker who can lead the line in the form of Lucy Curren. With Martel-Burn's inevitable reliability issues, having high quality back-up will hopefully pay dividends over the course of a long campaign.
