Excitement is growing in the nation as the Upper Cutters land in Kalactin. The young men ready to take the maiden tournament on. They have been training for months for this opportunity. Captain Gorka tweeted a selfie with coach Ganguly today during practice, caltioned, "The weather is fantastic here. Let's start some serious rivalries, gentlemen" tagging several of the players from Azadeshia and Indusse.
This indeed is a historic opportunity for the nation and the region as a whole. With increasing tensions with our neighbour, Calcuttans, old and young will have something to look forward to.

The day after Game 1 of the All India Cricket Blast, Vikrant Azam, Harsha Datta and Swapnil Ghosemajumder met at a small restaurant for lunch. It was a crowded place, full of people dressed in bright colors. The sun shined brightly through the large window onto the players and their table.

"Where is the food already? Come on", said Datta. "It's been twenty minutes."

Swapnil Ghosemajumder spoke next. "Relax, Harsha. They cook food to order here."

His friend replied, not consoled. "Yes, but they can have it started halfway or something.. What. Did they have to cut the chicken?"

"Yes, probably", added Vikrant Azam. "It's fresh. Good, fresh food. What's wrong?"

Datta finally released a bit of a smirk. "I have to go somewhere after this. A date. Now I'll have to rush my food."

"Don't rush, Harsha", said Swapnil. "If you're late, then too bad. Then at least she can dump you before she gets mad over something else."

Vikrant let out a quick laugh.

Datta still had a serious expression. "No, she saw me play. She called me a star."

Vikrant laughed again, louder. "Big Harsha Datta... Cricket star."

"It could happen", he replied offended. "We did have a good game against Indusse."

"They're a great nation", said Vikrant. "Did you watch them in the International Basketball League?"

"That's the International Basketball Championships", Datta corrected. "That looks like a fun sport. Do you think they'll ever win?"

"Surely!" Vikrant spoke in a definitive tone. "They just have to keep pushing. Keep fighting. I've watched the IBC", he continued. "It's all about heart. Some teams quit. Indusse just has to fight."

"Will Jhalpharezi ever play international basketball?" Harsha asked before drinking a sip of water. A waitress arrives with several plates of chicken, rice and garlic naan. The players quietly thank her as each plate is released. The smell of three different curries share a fragrant aroma, which wafts around the table.

"They just need the funding", Vikrant replied. "Maybe one day. We have a few players in leagues around the world. They should bring a big pro league to Jhalpharezi."

"That costs money. Who will pay?" Swapnil finally added, "Besides. We have cricket. Do not let the Pharezi people be distracted from this." There was a pause as the others began to eat. "Besides. We have Harsha Datta, cricket star."

Vikrant laughed, coughing on a bite of rice. Harsha looked annoyed. Vikrant added, "Hurry your meal, Harsha. Your date awaits."

The All India Cricket Blast was currently the most popular tournament that swept the region. Other events took place around the world. But the AICB was about India and the various nation states which sprung up from it. Everyone wanted to cheer for their team. It was about regional and national pride.

One clothing company released a line of t-shirts and polo tops along with authentic replica jerseys and even the team jacket. The t-shirts had different sayings, many featuring the team's nickname. The Jhalpharezi Spice were at the top of their group with a 2-0 record.

Azadeshia, Indusse and Northwest Kalactin also played in Group A. The Spice only had Azadeshia left to play. Azadeshia could take the group by head-to-head if they beat Jhalpharezi. Based on head-to-head and the current standings, it looked like Jhalpharezi would finish at least second and have clinched their spot in the semis.

But the spice were hunting for fans. For fame. To make cricket and the region of India worthy of international attention. Only time would tell if they could accomplish their goal.

Success in the group stage brought international attention to the Jhalpharezi Spice cricket team. Sponsors from a far away nation called Vangaziland noticed the attention the sport and specifically, the team and its players were garnering. Vangaziland didn't have much of a cricket league, but maybe if they could pull one star, it'd be enough to build a league.

They reached out to the team's 3rd & 4th batters. They were Harsha Datta and Chander Chadda. Both players were largely responsible for Jhalpharezi's success behind the bat. The hope was also that they could move to Vangaziland and become residents in order to play for a Vannish cricket team.

Both players declined. Harsha made a shrewd move, calling his domestic team, mentioning an offer to play professionally in Vangaziland and asking for a bigger contract. Of course, Harsha could still play for Jalpharezi internationally but pay in a Vannish pro league. Still, Datta had no desire. Jhalpharezi was his home.

His professional team in his homeland's pro league agreed to boost his salary the next time he was set to resign. Harsha Datta would stay locally in the only land he had ever known. The car company, Vannish Motors, decided to help sponsor the Spice cricket team with a large cash donation.
