Regional travel ban caused more harm than good

The Mariobo Times met with victims of the United Nations of Earthlings travel ban on Taitung Pinyin nationals that was erected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by TimeRocks. Nationwide protests erupting today, demanding that the Foreign Ministry apologize to Taitung Pinyin and its nationals as well as the nations of the region.

"My mom moved to Argentinstan back in 2014 to get treatment at a cancer treatment center. She was diagnosed in December of 2013 with stage 3 breast cancer. In Taitung Pinyin, the doctors told her to go to Argentinstan where there was an excellent treatment program and center outside Argentinstan City. She entered Argentinstan on Montevideo status which got her the right to live, work, and study in the nation.

My biggest mistakes were my crimes which landed me jail sentences. That made me inadmissible to Argentinstan on Montevideo status and I needed a visa. In May of 2016, my mom called from her treatment center and told me that she had end stage breast cancer and I remembered vividly that she said "I'm dying Ben, I'm dying." My mother did not sob or cry. It still warms my heart to this day. She was a strong woman.

I applied for a 90 day tourist visa at the Argentine consulate. I got a response about 3 weeks later and it was no because of my criminal record. I called the embassy in Gekan this time and they told me that of my criminal history, I may be permanently inadmissible to the country.

I read online that one, even with my record, could get a tourist visa. I contacted the guy who wrote it and they guy told me to fly to Vancouver where the consular officers are much more sympathetic and apply there. I took his advice and nearly used all my cash to book a one-way flight to Vancouver. With Mjobsarous declaring Vancouver an open, international zone I got in with no formalities.

In March of 2017, I applied for a visa again due to the Argentine government's limits of the period you can apply for a visa once you've been denied. I showed up at my interview and explained by story to the consular officer. His face was sympathetic and he took my passport, and the documents I had brought and said the following words that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

"Mr. Afleck, I am granting you a 90-day tourist visa. May your mother recover and have a fulfilled and full life."

Two weeks later, my passport came to me via the hotel I was staying at. And inside, there was a piece of paper. And on that paper said "REPUBLIC OF ARGENTINSTAN," my details, and "90 DAY TOURIST VISA."

I booked a flight in June 2017 to Argentinstan City on Air Argentine that would depart late June/early July.

The night before, I got almost no sleep due to my excitement and that day until I got on the plane, I was, for the first time in a long time, happy. Onboard the flight, I slept all the way to Argentinstan City and when I woke up the plane touched down. I held my passport and my carry-on bag as I deplaned and lined up for immigration and customs.

However at the immigration/customs counter, the immigration officer took my Tai passport and scanned it, then checking for a visa. He saw the 90-day tourist visa and his face grew stern. I will never forget that face.

"Do you have a green card?" he asked me.
"No," I answered growing worried.
"You are inadmissible," he told me.
"What? I have a tourist visa," I told him, my worry level over the top.
"Yes you would normally be allowed in. But the foreign ministry of the region banned Tai nationals and we have to observe that."

I nearly broke down in tears. That moment, all my hopes were crushed.

"Please follow me."

I followed him to a room where they questioned me. Then they gave me the option of returning to Taitung Pinyin voluntarily or be deported. I chose to leave voluntarily of course and boarded the next flight back.

My mother died the next morning. It is saddening to see that the regional government ignoring what Tai nationals have and do in Argentinstan. We have things to get to and to do as well and I don't think the Foreign Ministry understands that."

Argentinstan sends nukes to 5years for storage

ARGENTINSTAN CITY -- 7/6/2017

5years' Government has agreed to take delivery of several nukes in storage at the Colorado Mountain Storage Facility and into their own warehouses. President Jeremy Madrid who oversaw the deal said that both nations "will benefit greatly from moving our nuclear weapons to 5years."

Secretary of Defense Carl Montgomery gave a brief press conference on Thursday morning on the transfer in the capital. He was asked by the Mariobo Times whether the transfer would be secure during its journey. He answered with "we have SANAA activated in our airspace and we will be escorting the package to 5years with 15 fighters."

Argentinstan City airport flooded

ARGENTINSTAN CITY -- 7/13/2017

The primary airport in the capital was flooded Thursday as storms sweep the city. There were delays on over 50 flights and over 20 cancellations. The airport says it is working to regain the capacity it can handle and is departing/landing planes every 5 minutes from its normal 2 minutes.

Liberal Socialist Party win a victory in Tobiasian elections

TOBIASIA CITY -- 8/27/2017

The election for the government of The Liberal Socialist Republic of Tobiasia was held today. The system is first past the post in 651 seats. The LSP won 389 seats, whilst the CP won just 212, a loss of 92 seats for the right wingers. So former president Greg Yugjus is out, replaced by Liberal Alexander Tigros. The centrist Green Party won 39 seats, the far-left Communist Party won 10 seats, and the far-right Nation March won 1 seat.
The election shows a significant swing to the left in Tobiasia.

Power outage causes headaches in Greenfield and Akomi

GREENFIELD -- 8/28/2017

Fires rage on in Akomi and Greenfield from last night's mass power outage. 10 deaths have been reported with many more injuries. The city of Greenfield's metro system has restored power and over 2,000 evacuated from its tunnels. Transit services are attempting to restore services in those two cities. Gridlocks are common sights in the city and it is impossible for Greenfield residents to head to work.

Power has been restored to small pockets of Greenfield and Akomi. The entire borough of Monolibro has power restored. Greenfield and Akomi has been declared a disaster zone by the Deputy Prime Minister of Hiram Land.

Police car chase leaves 7 dead, 15 injured

MARIOBO -- 8/29/2017

A police chase from central Mariobo into Cordoba has left 7 dead and 15 sent to the hospital, police report. The Mariobo Police Department led a 5-police car chase behind a 2017 Toyota Highlander that was flagged down as a stolen car. The car zipped through the city of Mariobo and onto Autorapido Route 1 before swerving onto the exit for Panhouston. In Panhouston the chase was handed off to the Panhouston Police Department (PPD) who later handed off the chase to the Cordoba City Police (CCP).

The fatalities were the result of the Toyota Highlander driver roaring into the Salam Mosque before a police officer involved in the chase shot and hit a wheel, inflating the car causing the driver to fly out onto the Salam Mosque.

Autorapido Route 1 was shut off by the MPD while public transit is skipping several stops to avoid interference with police investigations.

The driver was arrested without incident and is being treated at the Cordoba Salam Memorial Hospital.

Hurricane Johnson pulverizes major cities in the nation

ARGENTINSTAN CITY -- 9/3/2017

Hurricane Johnson continued its path of destruction, heading into Argentinstan early today, making landfall in the northwestern coast and striking the Andean mountain range before it continued inland.

The nation's infrastructure is devastated including air travel with over 8,000 flights canceled by the FAA.

Argentinstan City was directly in the path of destruction, getting hit as early as 11:30 am. The city was unprepared as weather forecasts predicted the hurricane would turn towards Canary Beach.

Subways were flooded and operations were halted by the transit agency. Roads were flodded and clogged with congestion as Argentinstan City residents tried to flee. The Presidential Palace and the Capitol were sealed off from flooding and President Madrid was evacuated to an undisclosed location.

Mayor of the city, John Green (L) gave a statement to the press outside City Hall today.

"Argentinstan City was struck by Hurricane Johnson today and we, as a city, were unprepared. I advise our residents to get to high ground and stay put while signaling for rescue crews...I am in close contact with the Red Cross and federal authorities to get help as quickly as possible to those who need it."

The Argentinstan City Unified School District (ACUSD) suspended classes until Thursday, September 5th.

Wilson declares independence from Artheria

QUITO -- 9/4/2017

The state of Wilson in The United Artherian Federation has declared independence, potentially starting a civil war. The Department of State has advised Argentine citizens to avoid travel at all costs into Artheria.

The consulate of Argentinstan has also suspended all visa application services but will continue consular services to Argentine and Montevideo citizens. All pending applications are being handled by the Argentine embassy in Reykjavik, Icetropical. The embassy in Chicago has also suspended all services besides consular services to Argentines. Rising sea levels and climate change will submerge Greenport

FLORENZA -- 10/8/2017

In Santiland Repubilc, the threat of climate change and rising sea levels has never been more imminent. The national capital, Greenport, is no more above than danger zone than possible. Analysts predict that parts of the city's Midtown, the lowest zone in the city, will submerge underwater if this trend continues.

Much of Greenport is home to the Santiland government and submerging all or even part of the city would be devastating to its economy, the Santiland government, and will cause a ripple effect worldwide.

Greenport Mayor Michael Sweeney did a live interview with CNN's Adam Lorence. Transcript:

CNN: "Hello Mayor. So Greenport is in imminent danger. What are your views on the situation?"
Michael Sweeney: "I belive so. We are seeing and increase in rains and the strength of storms that have flooded parts of the low-lying city. We are also seeing streets in Midtown and the Financial District flood because of subtle thunderstorm!"
CNN: "I'd like to know more about your possible solutions and stances on climate change."
Michael Sweeney: "Hmm. The city government has been working in expanding the city's anti-flood systems such as pumps and dams. We will also be increasing the height of sea walls as to prevent flooding areas such as Midtown and in general, the rest of Greenport and its metropolitan area. And for my stances, I believe climate change is one of the biggest threat to the world's way of life. Think about it, most major cities are located around the coast. Sea level rise will render them uninhabitable and possibly cause the global economy to crumble as places like Applesburg, Greenport, Mariobo, Argentinstan City, Florenza and others sink beneath the waves."
CNN: "What will you do if the sea levels continue to rise and parts of Greenport are flooded? Evacuation?"
Michael Sweeney: I'm afraid so. I cannot risk the lives of over 15 million people, the federal government has laid out plans of constructing a new capital further inland so inhabitants of Greenport's metro area have somewhere to live.

5years may leave the Montevideo Treaty in the near future

WESTBERG CITY -- 10/8/2017

The empire of 5years, which swung to the far-right during the last election, has promised 5yearsians that a referendum on the nation's membership within the Montevideo Treaty. The Montevideo Treaty is an economic/travel zone providing for free trade, freedom of movement for participants in the scheme. Currently the treaty's membership includes Argentinstan, Mega Nation, and Uruguistan.

CNN's very own John Blakely sat down for an interview with 5yearsian Prime Minister John Davis.

CNN: "Hello Mr. Davis. Rumors have been flying around about a possible 5years exit from Montevideo...what is your opinion?"
PM Davis: "I can confirm that there will be a referendum for the Empire of 5years to leave the Montevideo Treaty. My party (the 5years First Party) and I ran on leaving Montevideo. Montevideo has done nothing good for the 5yearsain people. Montevideo has encouraged liberal immigration policies, freedom of movement and trade policies that hurt 5yearsains. This treaty weakens the power of the 5yearsain Government to enforce it's laws properly. 5yearsains elected my party into the majority in Parliament and other right wing parties to take upto 70% of all Parliamentary seats because they are tired of this. They want more control of their country and I agree. I encourage 5yearsains to come out and vote and vote Yes on leaving the Montevideo Treaty."
CNN: "Do you predict such a leave will cause a ripple effect worldwide? Many Montevideo nations such as Argentinstan have lots of trade, cultural, and political ties to 5years. And what about future visitors to 5years from Montevideo nations as well as Montevideo citizen currently living in 5years?"
PM Davis: "We expect economic repercussions world wide. According to 5yearsain economists, the 5yearsain Economy will recover in a week or two. Overall we expect all countries to recover. However, wealthier countries will recover quicker than poorer countries. The Minstry of immigration and emigration has decided that all those planning to visit 5years in the future should make sure they have all Immigration papers available. They should have passports in Visas on themselves at all times. Immigration reform is expected in the future after we leave Montevideo so this could change. Argentinstan City Metro derails, 70 dead, 300 injured

ARGENTINSTAN CITY -- 11/2/2017

The Yellow Line of the Argentinstan City Metro derailed today, after a 7-car metro train carrying about 750 passengers derailed between Tullenmarine Station and River Street Station.

The train was on normal operation towards the city's international airport from the Financial District. Rescue operations were underway within half a minute as crews entered the dimly lit tunnel from both stations. At the time of this story, 70 people are dead with over 300 injured.

The ACMTA (Argentinstan City Municipal Transit Authority), responsible for the metro system and other transit systems in the city, quickly issued a statement to the press outside City Hall soon after the incident.

"The ACMTA is working with law enforcement, the fire department, and rescue workers to quickly assist those trapped in today's derailment of the Yellow Line.
The entire metro system has been shut down for investigations and supplementary bus service is in place, running the lines affected. We advise all to stay calm and call 311 or 511 for information or email us. Call 911 if you are in an emergency. Thank you."

ARGENTINSTAN CITY -- 11/2/2017

The Republic of Argentinstan formally joined the Democratic Economic Union of Nations. With the appointment of the Ambassador to DEUN pending in Parliament and more integrative policies to be implemented, President Elijah Turner has taken over and led the process of accession to the finishing line, of which was started in the Madrid administration.

The federal government is currently in talks with several nations about joining the Aghenno Area, a single, unitary area of which persons may move around freely and goods may move around freely as well, similar to the Montevideo Treaty scheme the republic is a member of. However sources close to the negotiation team have informed CNN that the process of joining would most likely require an exit from the Montevideo Treaty, something conservatives, especially the Socialist Party have been advocating for.

Eyja Frumbyggja checkpoint shooting

CANARY BEACH -- 11/12/2017

At the Eyja Frumbyggja immigration & customs checkpoint, a person opened fire on immigration officers, security, and civilians early this morning. The man, later identified as a Valkiiri national, was denied entry by Customs & Border Protection Authority on the grounds of several deportations from Argentinstan and not holding a valid visa. After the denial, he was asked to follow officers but instead opened fire.

Grainy security camera footage shows him shooting the two immigration officers asking him to follow and several other travelers passing through the checkpoint.

The checkpoint, located in a remote area of the Saint Paul Islands autonomous region, processes mainly fishermen, indigenous peoples, and expedition groups.

2 were confirmed dead at the scene while 6 were airlifted to the Saint Paul Medical Center in the capital of Saint Paul; 4 of whom are in a critical condition and 1 in a serious condition.

The suspect was subdued by security forces and handed over to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). The checkpoint was closed and all incoming travelers were directed to other nearby checkpoints.

According to the Artherian News Agency, the United Artherian Federation has announced German to become an official language. The network stated that a poll found that 46% of the population spoke the language.

The Parliament of Argentinstan announced today at 11:00am that the Republic of Argentinstan will not recognize the declaration of independence from a vassal state of Vietmihn, The United Artherian Federation. The new "nation" has been expressly condemned by the republic.

GovGo launched to high expectations

1/14/2018 -- RHODESTON

The Argentinstan federal government, in conjunction with all the state and territorial governments as well as 20 cities across the nation, launched GovGo, an app that allows users to get government support and pay bills/taxes all in one place.

CNN reached out to the Department of Commerce, which manages the app, on the question if there was a fee or surcharge imposed if bills/taxes were paid through the app.

"There are no fees and taxes for paying your bills and taxes through GovGo," said a Department of Commerce representative. "The app is a free service."

GovGo is a federal/state/local government app that allows users to pay water/electric bills online, pay taxes online, one tap for emergency health/fire/police services, one tap for travel information/advisories, and one tap for a national map which points to only government agencies and offices as well as get live directions. The app is available on the aOS App Store with expansion to the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store planned.

Nation on high alert with conflict in 5years & Valkiir

7/1/2018 -- ARGENTINSTAN CITY

The nation is on high alert with the ongoing bloody, expensive, and tragic conflict in 5years and Valkiir. The Fascists, as they are currently being referred to have been ever locked in tensions with the 5yearsian government and in the current, of countless, wars, the Argentine government is in a state of high alert and military personnel are all on standby.

Over 10,000 troops from Argentinstan have already been deployed to the battle lines and more are expected to be deployed in the coming weeks. The embassy of Argentinstan in 5years and Valkiir both remain open while the diplomatic missions in several 5yearsian cities have closed due to security concerns. All consulates in Valkiir remain open.

CNN caught up with Senator Shaun Rosario about Parliament's response.

Drone explodes in São Paulo, causing chaos in the city

7/2/2018 -- RIO DE JANEIRO

At approximately 12:42 PM Eastern Argentinstan Standard Time (EAST), a drone exploded in the Sé District of the city, killing hundreds of civilians and injuring hundreds more.

The attack is suspected to be carried out by the Argentinstan Liberation Front, a terrorist group which has grown more and more aggressive in the last few days.

The latest death count as of 2:50 PM EAST is at 215 civilians and an injured count brought up 690 injuries. Most of the injured are being treated at the Hospital de las Clínicas de la Universidad de São Paulo.

Mayor Juliett Ross immediately condemned the suspected terror attack and ordered additional law enforcement in the city center and sent a request to the federal government and the state government for assistance.

Governor José Partini of Amazonas was in Argentinstan City at the time of the attack, meeting with federal officials on increasing federal dollars to the state to provide relief for welfare. He and President Turner both condemned the attacks at a press conference outside the Presidential Palace. The Royal Family also issued a statement, condemning the attack and offering their sincerest condolences to the families of the victims.

The National Reserve has also been called to service and has been deployed to São Paulo to restore order, under the direction of Governor Partini. São Paulo's attack closed immediately after the attack but resumed reduced operations 3 hours after.

President Turner meets with Prime Minister of Icetropical

7/3/2018 -- ARGENTINSTAN CITY

Prime Minister Noah Glass of Icetropical arrived yesterday afternoon, meeting with President Turner on key topics including the Argentine-Icetropicalian bilateral relationship as well as defense contracts and extradition.

The Presidential Palace issued a press release, outlining the topics discussed. Icetropical has agreed to sell 15 naval warships to the AAF for a price tag of $45 billion SAD, outfitted with the latest military technology and plenty of undisclosed specifics. The Icetropicalian Prime Minister also proposed joint-counterterrorism operations which President Turner accepted graciously.

In turn, the Argentine government also agreed to extradite 3 foreign citizens for involvement in a cyberattack that brought down an Icetropicalian border control station. They were arrested by the Florenza P.D. and were approved for extradition by the Florenza City Supreme Court. Their nationalities were disclosed as Hiram Landian and The United Artherian Federation. Their citizenships were also revoked by both countries, rendering them stateless and expediting the extradition process.

Gulf Cooperation Council of Florenza expands

The Gulf Cooperation Council of Florenza has expanded to bringing Great Eustrastan and western alacademia and The United Artherian Federation on as full members of the Council and Aressna joining as an observer state. The organization, which aims to promote healthy diplomatic relationships between all members and nations bordering the Gulf of Florenza, saw a major spike in membership today and in the words of Florenzan Governor Maurice Romoan, "will decrease the likelihood of bloody conflict in the Gulf region."

Many political and economic analysts speculate about the organization possibly ushering in economic relations between all members, possibly increasing economic activity between nations of the Council through further trade, tourism, immigration, and other subject areas. CNN's Joe Hendrick caught up with Florenzan Governor Maurice Romoan after a press conference today, hoping to hear her perspective.
