The NationStates World Fair VI
Greetings, all! We the NSWF Committee are pleased to announce the season for the fair has begun, and so welcome to the start of the sixth NationStates World Fair! This is the quintessential event where everyone in Nationstates is encouraged to join in and participate in the annual tradition of coming together in a quest for learning, growing and gaining friendships, and overall, and perhaps most important, having a little fun too. Whether you are new or old, crotchety or blissfully naive, a nation with a checkered or a cherished reputation, a roleplayer or a raider, a dreamer or a defender, an onion-peeler, a spiced yam, or even a halfway-used holiday candle from Yankee Candle Company, this fair is for you and is your chance to make a splash, stimulate your senses, satiate your snooping, and satisfy your scholastic semblance of societies across the spectrum of the NS spread. This fair encompasses all genres of NS, and is most certainly the premier annual event for the game aside from the April Fools (and if they ever decide to bring back Max Chat every year of course).
Last year's fair was met with some challenges within our group, but despite some issues, it was launched and is lauded as a success. The theme was Space, because In Space No One Can Hear You
Our Current Committee
Todd McCloud, Lamoni, McMasterdonia, Eluvatar, Sopo, and Almonaster served on last year's committee and will be retained for the next event. Two new faces, Ever Wandering Souls and Sanctaria, have been added to our mix and are committed to bringing out TBDFITL (The best damn fair in the land, for those of us who are fans of TOSU (The Ohio State University)). We wish to thank Astarial and their years of service to our committee.
Important information
This year's NationStates World Fair will be held on the 15th - 21st of December. During that time, we will have several different events occurring at a given moment to capture the high energy and fun atmosphere we have enjoyed in past fairs, but with some twists that we hope you will enjoy.
We have decided that we will be opening the NationStates World Fair 2017 to bidding for host regions. The bidding period will be from right now until the 20th of November. The WF Committee will then screen the bids and open a vote if host(s) are to be selected. Given that we are operating on a tight schedule, we will reserve the right to go with a neutral theme if the applications are not up to standard of this committee.
In order to apply, please send a telegram to Ambrella (Sopo) with the following information (bonus points for creativity - be creative!):
1. Why does your region want to host the World Fair?
2. What activities/ideas would you like to bring to the WF?
3. What should this years theme for the World Fair be? How would you implement that theme?
4. Any other information we should consider with respect to your region's bid?
A vote will be held from the 20th of November and will last until the 27th of November. So, to recap, this is our current timeframe:
- Now until Nov. 20th: host bids accepted
- Nov. 20th - Nov. 27th: vote for a host
- Dec. 3rd - Dec. 10th: host and committee set everything up
- Dec. 15th - Dec. 21st: the fair is held
What will hosting the World Fair involve?
The NationStates World Fair Committee is looking to expand the involvement of host regions into the operations of the World Fair. Host regions will be responsible for the opening and closing statements of the World Fair. In addition, they will be involved in adding input to the theme of the third party forum to be used for the fair, and any fair theme changes themselves. This is a good thing. Finally, the host will have involvement in the organization of the lectures for the NS World Fair, and other games & entertainment ideas for the World Fair 2017.
Regions who wish to submit a detailed application to host the fair should consider the above when making their application.
The Lectures
We will see a return of the very popular lectures of the NationStates World Fair in 2017. Planning is just beginning. If you are interested in giving a lecture, please send a telegram to McMasterdonia. Please provide details about the topic you wish to lecture about and your experience with that particular topic.
The Lecture series will run for the entire duration of the NationStates World Fair, with multiple lectures being given on each particular day. Lectures will be posted by the lecturer on the day which the speaker is slated to speak, and the lecturer will be available in an IRC chat during their lecture slot
Regional Booths
The NationStates World Fair is now open to requests for regional booths. Only regions may submit booths for this event. Please indicate the position you hold within the region, ideally we would prefer that Delegates, Founders, or the equivalent Minister or Head of Government makes the application. Your region will be telegrammed and informed when it is time to set up a booth. The NSWF committee reserves the right to decline or cancel a booth, primarily due to inactivity.
