Imbrinumian Crown and Macabéan Naval Forces
Conduct Joint Exercises East of Ordenite Mainland
Weeks following the Ordenite missile test,
the Kríermada and the Royal Imbrinumian Navy.
Not more than two months following Stevidian–Macabéan joint naval exercises, almost three hundred Macabéan military vessels and a similarly sized force sent by the Imbrinumian Crown conducted joint naval exercises in the seas not more than three hundred kilometers east of the Ordenite coastline. Although long-planned as a show of unity and intent while the two countries target Ralkovian merchant shipping in-and-around central Greater Díenstad, unexpected anti-ballistic missile tests speak to events not three weeks ago when the Ordenites launched their new intercontinental ballistic missile design.
According to military leadership from both countries, the exercises tested and helped improve coordination in anti-submarine warfare, land-air-sea cooperation, and large-formation anti-surface shipping missions. Imbrinumian intelligence ships also took part, allowing the Golden Throne first-hand experience with these command-and-control vessels. This culminated finally into a 36-hour 'war at sea' simulation, a mock naval battle that incorporated land, air, sea, and space assets, where according to one senior military officer "we saw plenty of room for growth and improvement. Our navies are veteran and well-seasoned, but coordination is uncommon and there will be plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months." So successful were the exercises that the two countries have agreed to make them recurring annual events.
The anti-ballistic tests were a last-minute addition, said one source from inside the Kríermada. No doubt, the Ordenite missile test played a role.
Themselves a surprise, the Ordenite tests may have been a response to the exercises between Stevid and the Golden Throne, held in the Sea of Crowns. Although Macabean commanders claimed that they were not meant as a provocation of the Fourth Reich, there are reports that the Reichstag took it as such, explaining the trajectory choice of their missiles.
Since the end of the Panooly Reunification War, relations between the Reich and the Golden Throne have cooled. Cooperation in Krasnova seems to suggest even some return to normalcy, but the sparring in the Sea of Crowns seeds doubt in any fast recovery of the friendly relations the two countries once enjoyed. Indeed, according to some analysts, the decision to rebuild Datosk comes from a lack of confidence that the rift caused by events in Holy Panooly can be fully healed. There are fears in Berlina that should war come to Krasnova again, the facilities of Fedorograd would be closed to them. Datosk provides a much more secure logistical artery. Together with two back-to-back naval exercises between the Golden Throne and her neighboring allies, these events speak to rising tensions and deep uncertainties. All things that the Imperial Bureaucracy denies.
Although that denial did not prevent Fedala from opening a consulate in Tuktar, the northern Krasnovan city and region that recently joined the Morridane state in a controversial and widely-criticized vote. By doing so, the Golden Throne has at least informally recognized the legitimacy of the Morridane claim. How this news has been taken in Berlina is unknown.
But, if the Ordenites were a target, they were by no means the primary one.
In Fedala, spokesmen for His Imperial Majesty explain the exercises as primarily technical and something requested by the Kríermada. The two navies have cooperated before, including in central Greater Díenstad and Gholgoth. Imbrinumian also forces took part in the invasion of South Panooly and are an important part of the coalition effort in the Gothic War.
The two navies also cooperate in ongoing anti-mercantile operations against Ralkovian assets. Imbrinium has been involved in the long-developing liberation of Potthan, where Ralkovian troops hold much of the north and occupy the rest,
and the Golden Throne has actively impeded Ralkovian trade traffic by boarding ships and seizing cargos, although it has yet to attempt a raid a slave convoy. Regardless, the exercises and those with Stevid two months earlier send a clear message that there is a united-enough bloc ready to secure the central waterways of the region, sea lanes that connect the west with the east.
There are, of course, fractures that have yet to be smoothed Imbrinium and Stevid, as well as Stevid and the Golden Throne, with past wars leaving deep wounds.
But with the Ordenite affront and the threat of Ralkovian evil, there is as much incentive as there ever was for the three royalties to come together and cooperate toward a safer, more stable central Greater Díenstad. Certainly, the exercises are evidence enough that this is exactly what the three governments intend for.
