Black market

Postby Classicalia » Sat May 02, 2015 11:09 am

My nation has quite a large black market, which i'm very satisfied with. The question i'm asking is, how do i make it larger? I haven't really been able to crack what makes a black market come about (my nation used to not have one) and what makes it grow. Anyone got any ideas?

You have a 5.6% black market. I wouldn't call that large.

Compared to most nations (as far as i can see), it is fairly large. Now the question was how you make it grow. I can see you have a very large black market, got any advice?

Difference is:
My corruption rating is twice yours. That could be part of it.
Try choosing options that appear to increase government size.

Your black market isn't large, in fact it's quite small. Mine however, well..Is huge.

Transyl's corruption > mine.
Transit's black market > mine.

Try that.

Black market would be more likely linked to what's banned in your nation and how prevalent your police force is. So, Low Economic Freedoms + Non-Existent Police Force = High Black Market

Actually, my nation has a huge police force, high amounts of corruption, and no freedoms hardly at all in general...My black market is huge though. Allot of things are illegal, drugs and guns not included.

Try banning a bunch of stuff. If you ban things, people will trade them anyway. They just don't tell the government about it.

My nation's black market is tiny despite its nicely-corrupt government, and I would guess that's because there's no need for a black market when you can go to the store - an open, well-advertised one right on main street - and buy everything from counterfeit money, to 10-kilo packs of cocaine, to nuclear bombs. Of course, the Decepticon government has no reason to ban the first two of those things since we don't have paper currency and robots aren't affected by drugs, but the game mechanics don't know that.

Economic Freedoms isn't a stat that's depicted tho, you're thinking of Economic Strength, which is different.
Also, then corruption obviously plays some part in it, I was just saying what makes the most sense in my head.

You also have a very low law enforcement stat.

My nation had almost 40% black market.

I wiped out my nation's tax code, and this is on top of literally destroying my nation's economy months ago and killing off state owned industry. So anyway, when my government funding died out, my economy went from 100% to 62%, the GDP graph was totally vacant, and the economy graph was wiped out (it was entirely private industry).

The government was apparently abolished altogether, which means that my nation became a 100% clean palate.

I was pissed off at first, but I've since realized the potential.

The FIRST freaking decision I made after abolishing government once and for all (I had a chance to fix it, I said "fix it yourself" xD), had to do with PIRATES!

I could have made them privateers, but I decided to focus on my navy instead. Thus the dreaded black market percentage came back.

It's only 4.8% though. Compared to almost 40% that's a fucking blessing.

My guide to killing black market: Develop a socialist democratic society with a 90%+ tax rate, take control over all businesses through dedicated corporate welfare, demand they downsize if they ever get big enough to be richer than the government, develop a 100% economy which relies entirely on government spending, then abolish the tax code.

BAM.

So, just to list a few potential factors in expanding the black market, ban:

Cars
Guns
Drugs (recreational or pharmaceutical)
Sports (I think that's the Olympics issue)
Planes
Religion
Hunting
Fast Food
Computers
Meat/Vegetables (I don't think you can get one without banning the other)

I don't know if I missed anything.

OP back with a case study. It seems that if you answer the questions you are aksed when you start a new nation in a certain way, you will start of with a black market. On the other hand, banning cars did not increase the size of the black market.

something a lot of people have failed to point out is that desperate people will also deal with the black market. Transyl's black market was nearly 100% immediately after her economic crash when people only made about 5k a year there. However i am not entirely sure this was because the black market simply grew to make up for the gray market crash or that the lack of the gray market in the first place simply threw the ratio entirely and made it seem as if it grew when it did not.

Ultimately your black market's 'size' should not be based on NS % stats but rather based on NSEconomy's black market calculations. i have a 'small' black market but when you go to NSEconomy it is actually quite large, pulling in about 2 trillion $ but compared to my gray market it is simply overshadowed % wise simply because i have worked to have a massive industry state.

my black market has grown a lot since i started kicking out foreign businesses so only native products can be sold. other than that i think this forum has pointed out all the right facts other than ratio of black to gray markets. i have a 9.8% black market with a 100 trillion NSD economy. That is fairly easy to calculate so that monetary value is a better representation of someones black market.

if you need help with said equation it is simply 100 / 9.8 (i shortened the numbers k) but end result it after you add all the removed zeroes that were serving no purpose you come out with 9.8 trillion NSD black market vs a 91.2 trillion NSD gray market. very good idea now so try that if you REALLY must get a good idea of the black market.
