Greetings everybody! New to NS RP, but not to RP, nor really to NS. Been hanging around on and off through a few nations throughout the years but this is my first attempt at really digging into the meat 'n potatoes of roleplay with one. Still very much a WIP but the basic gist of my nation is a federated republic with a hard-on for advanced tech and civil rights and alternative energy with a proud history of getting dragged around by bigger, more powerful nations. Force of will, a lot of spies, and some shrewd trade agreements get you out of hot water when y'need it, after all.

Not really sure what I'm open to just yet though I'm thinking I'm gonna have a vested interest in trade disputes, rivalries and pressure from a nation with a lot more of everything -- I like to play the underdog -- though allies, coalitions and agreements are just as interesting.

In the ancient times Bytharum existed as a a multitude of city states. Each pretty much independent from one another. Great cities grew in that process, magnificent cities full of wonder and grandeur. Eventually military blocs formed and superpowers of the region began to absorb other city states. Eventually the nation of Bytharum unified the whole of modern day Bytharum. Known for their strong tourist market, both man-made and natural, Bytharum is a beautiful country with a strong history.

Hello everybody! I'm relatively new to both TWI and NationStates, but I'm interested to start roleplaying soon. My nation is a small and democratic one, that believes strongly in civil rights and remaining peaceful, except in times of crisis, when they will defend the innocent. My nation's creation story is that it was part of a much larger nation but recently declared independence, possibly after a war Popsimyra didn't agree with, or it was just tired of being treated like a colony, perhaps even one of a fairly distant country. I'd be interested if someone would agree to be this country. We could talk more about the details once I'm officially inducted and my map spot is confirmed.

In Popsimyra there is a large electronics market, and also a clothing industry. There is also some tourism/hotel industry along its beaches. I think that's about it, so hello!

Hi! My nation is named Townside. I'm new to The Western Isles, but I've been playing NationStates for 5-6 years. This nation may look young and new, but I only created it as a successor to my old nation. The old nation had an unconventional and long name, which would have been contrary to the map rules under the regional rules and conduct. I'm endeavouring to apply to join the map when I meet the other requirements.

Townside covers four islands, including Christmas Island, the largest and only inhabited island, while the other three smaller islands are uninhabited. The population of Townside is packed onto this one island at incredible density similar to that of real life Hong Kong and Macau. It was founded in 1798, more than 200 years ago, when it was colonised by British settlers who coexisted peacefully with the native Polynesians. Subsequently, Spanish refugees arrived and settled on the island during the Spanish American wars of independence, and similar Japanese settlers arrived on the island during the Meiji Restoration. This give the island its current mix of British, Spanish, Japanese and Polynesian peoples.

Given Townside's relative smallness, even by The Western Isles' standards, its potential international power may be limited. However, I will like to see it become a middle power, in diplomatic, military and economic terms. We prefer peace, but if war comes we don't mind fighting as long as it is in a coalition or alliance. As an isolated island nation we also like trading, and also we enjoy sitting around the table to talk and discuss things of varying degrees of importance on the international stage. The International District does looks nice!

Townside will make no pretentious attempts at great power status. We are happy with our little islands and do not seek any extra lands through invasions or conquests. The business of other nations generally do not concern or upset us unless the sovereignty of Townside or other good nations is threatened.

Hello everyone, my name is Jade! I'm extremely new to NationStates but have been getting lots of help from people on discord.

My nation is the Imperial State of Queste, or simply the Empire of Queste.

Previously a democracy, the Republic of Queste closed its borders completely in the early 20th century, basing itself on isolationist and capitalistic beliefs. After a total economic collapse in 2010 due to a cycle of oversupply and unregulated corporations, Queste fell into a state of chaos and terrorism for four years. At the end of the fourth year, a group of rioters gained massive support and overthrew the current government after assassinations on multiple Ministers and the bombing of the President.

Today, Queste is an Empire based heavily on socialist beliefs of heavily regulating and taxing private industry, and government control is unmatched and heavily enforced.
