National language of your country

Postby Ginalenkla » Mon Oct 23, 2017 12:57 pm

Hello everybody and wellcome to this thread!
While scrolling through the countries list, I found out that there aren't many countries that have a national Lang. So I want to find countries that do have it.
So don't be afraid, tell me about the language of your country!

Estainian (Doric Greek), Alisonian (Low Latin/Proto-Italian). Some also speak Eurasian (Low German) or Belkan (High German), our nobility also speaks Sindarin (to the great hatred of Elvenkind because we don't speak it correctly). The 'national' language or lingua franca is divided between the first two.

The national language of Kiravia is Kiravic Coscivian (Kiravix Koskirona), often abbreviated to "Kiravic" (Kiravirona). Kiravic is the working language of the federal government and most state governments (often alongside other languages), business, and inter-ethnic communication.

As an example, here is the Lord's Prayer in Kiravic:

The Lord's Prayer - Aśua Thíarná

Cekovian. Real imaginative, right?
Its words variously derive from word of Spanish, Italian, Latin, Esperanto, Swedish, Icelandic, Norwegian, Danish, German, English, Japanese, (OOC: It's sadly the only non-Indo-European language here, since I don't know much about any other languages outside of that group. I suppose Esperanto could be considered to be another non-Indo-European language, but in practice, it's essentially one. /OOC) and Penguin origin.
Here is the Lord's Prayer in Cekovian:
Kebi yom pakŕë cie relacel,
Dṽum noma e relak ǵikina.
Dṽum arkiota i imakuda.
Pos ta ter ki ïn cie relacel ǵikina, dṽum yocin i ciqulda.
Cie koŕu nic, yom nonic pän i fokitli favo.
Fo yom wikteð i ĵuyarona,
ki ta homið veraj ĵuyarona fu yom i fokitna.
Fo yom fu wikoki i syuƒminame,
set yom ye wik i syuƒtakli favo.
Omïn.

Direct translation:
Our father in heaven,
your name is holy.
Your kingdom will come.
On the earth as it is in heaven, your wishes will be complete.
On this day, please give us your daily bread.
And forgive our sins,
as the people who trespass against us we forgive.
And do not lead us into temptation,
but please deliver us from evil.
Amen.

The grammar is a bit wonkier than that because it mainly takes its grammar system from Japanese, which has particles that can't really be expressed in English easily, so I cleaned the translation up.

Most inhabitants of Aldina speak Low Aldish (that is, the form of Aldish spoken in the western Low Provinces) as their first language; the second-most-common language is High Aldish, mainly spoken in informal situations. A tiny minority of citizens on Aldina's northern coast speak in a dialect of Kusttaal as well.

Molochian (mölchisch) is the official language spoken in Greater Moloch. It belongs to the Northern branch of the Romance language family. It developed simultaneously with the High German languages in Central and Northern Europe and shares many phonological features.

The national language of Siornor is Modern Siornori, a sort of juxtaposition of Middle Siornori and English. The language itself attempts to be as close to English as possible, and anyone fluent in English can understand most of it with effort. There are many spelling differences, however, and many prefixes and suffixes are taken from Middle Siornori rather than Latin or other languages which English is derived from. Some words, especially nouns that are significant to Siornori culture, are taken directly from Middle Siornori. The greatest differences are that the slang and everyday terminology in Modern Siornori are vastly different than English, making almost any Siornori sentence appear whimsically "paraphrased" from its English translation, and that most SIornori have such heavy accents that spoken Modern Siornori sounds very little like English at first glance.

e.g.
"The national language of Siornor is Modern Siornori" (ENglish)
"The Siornori lanedecc tongue is Moderennec Siornori" (Modern Siornori, written)
"They Syornori lineedicc tonga 's Medreenic Syornori" (Modern Siornori, spoken/phonetic transcription)
"In the degradation of the great way come benevolence and righteousness.
With the exaltation of learning and prudence comes immense hypocrisy.
The disordered family is full of dutiful children and parents.
The disordered society is full of loyal patriots." -Tao Te Ching

Kenmoria is an illiberal yet democratic nation pursuing the goals of communism in a semi-effective fashion. It has a very broad diplomatic presence despite being economically developing, mainly to seek help in recovering from the effect of a recent civil war. Read the factbook here for more information; perhaps, I will eventually finish it.

Soyousian is a language somewhat similar to German in it's sharp sound but with slight similarities to Japanese pronounciation at times. It originated from the Soyo tribe, who taught it to conquered tribes for efficiency. Being bilingual is not unusual, it is very common for Soyousian people to know either English or German along with their mother tongue. Other languages are less common.

Catalan is Catalonia's official language. With the exception of the Occitan Shires of la Vall d'Aran/Valh d'Aran and Fenolleda/Fenolheda in which Occitan is official too.

Also Castilian has a cooficial status similar to that of Gaelic in the Republic of Ireland.

Symiric is an agglutinative language. It uses various affixes, mainly suffixes, but also some prefixes and a circumfix to change a word's meaning and grammatical function. Symiric uses vowel harmony when attaching suffixes to words. This means that most suffixes have two or three different forms and the choice between them depends on the vowels of the head word. There are some minor and unpredictable exceptions to this rule.

The neutral word order is verb-subject-object (VSO). However, Symiric is a topic-prominent language, which means that word order depends not only on syntax, but also on the topic-comment structure of the sentence (e.g. what aspect is assumed to be known and what is emphasized).

Putting something into the topic means that the proposition is only stated for that particular thing or aspect, and implies that the proposition is not true for some others. For example, in the sentence "vois Ihan uška" ('John sees the apple,’ more exactly, 'it is John who sees the apple,' literally “the apple John sees”), the apple is in the topic, implying that other objects may not be seen by him, but by other people ("the pear may be seen by Peter"). The topic part may be empty.

Questions are usually ordered as object-subject-verb (OSV), with the question word being either in the beginning, or the end. For example:

Sidul šan aikuk? “Where are you going?” lit. “Whither you go?”
Jörgüle šors si? “Who butchered the bull?” lit. “Butcher the bull who?”
Sidéš ezö dúgadhlu sivašar söprötes? "How many fish did the sister bring in today?" lit. "How many today bring in sister fish?"

The official language is English and is used for most government business which concerns the three states that make up Aikoland.

However, as Aikoland's three states are Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese are recognized as national languages and almost everyone speaks one of the three as their native and common language. However, due to the language barrier that would otherwise occur, almost everyone learns and is fluent in English as a second language.
