Form of Parenting in YN

Postby Zhouran » Wed Sep 13, 2017 6:32 am

What style of parenting is most common in your nation and how does it define your culture's family traditions?

Compared to the very-harsh authoritarian parenting-style found in Oriental child-rearing societies or the overly-relaxed indulgent/permissive parenting-style found in Western societies, Zhouranese parenting is based on the meritocratic Zhouranese-Style Administrative Parenting.

Administrative parenting, also referred to as supervised parenting, is a Zhouranese form of authoritative parenting. Influenced by the traditional Zhouranese child-centered practice that holds high expectations of maturity, self-reliance, responsibility and meritocracy, the term originated in early 1972. Administrative parenting is the result of high parental responsiveness and high parental demands.

Characterized by a child-centered approach, administrative parents can understand the feelings of their children and teach them how to rationally manage their feelings. While holding a high expectation of maturity, an administrative parent would generally forgive any possible shortcomings. Parents would often assist their children to utilize reasoning and work independently, and encourage children to be independent but still place limits on their actions.

Administrative parents generally try to be warm and nurturing toward their children and allow them to explore more freely, thus having the children make their own decisions based upon their own reasoning. As a result, children become independent and self-reliant.

An administrative parent would set clear standards for their children in a rational issue-oriented manner, monitor the limits that they set, and assist children in developing autonomy, mature age-appropriate independent behavior, autonomous self-will and disciplined conformity. Punishments for misbehavior are measured and consistent but not arbitrary or violent. In order to allow the child to see how their behavior is inappropriate and not to be repeated, the natural consequences of the child's actions are explored and discussed. When punishing a child, the parents will explain their motive for their punishment. Because children see their punishment as reasonable and fair, they will generally respond to administrative parenting punishment. A child would know why their punishment is legitimate since an administrative parent would make the reasons known. Therefore, children tend to be successful, well liked by those around them, generous and capable of self-determination.

Child Qualities

  • lively and happy disposition
  • self-confident about ability to master tasks
  • well developed emotion regulation
  • developed social skills

Thanks to this form of parenting, Zhouranese children experience exceptionally high academic achievements like with Oriental children, but at the same time experience higher happiness in life and lower chance of suicide and depression. Zhouranese-Style Administrative Parenting has significantly influenced the Zhouranese stereotype of efficiency, discipline, merit, self-reliance and honor.

Authoritarian parenting is all-pervasive in the DGES. Children have no say in decisions, and are completely dictated by their seniors. Note than there are no women in the DGES, so that is mainly why this style of parenting is omnipresent in our Empire.

A Sidh most often never knows or ever meets his biological parents. From the moment the first sparks of self awareness appear in the young Sidh brain while he's still at infancy stage in the progenitory vat, a Sidh is plugged into Dreamtime, a virtual reality designed to train and educate young Sidhae to full adult capacity.

It is difficult to describe what existence of a Sidh is like before activation, Dreamtime hardly being a life-like simulation childhood and adolescence. Sidhae describe Dreamtime as "non-linear", an endless collection of unrelated or only loosely related situations, each centered around a lesson, task or test, success being rewarded and failure punished. Some of these situations seem to last for weeks, others seem to take merely seconds. Sims are graded by maturity level, younger Sidhae being subject to briefer and simpler simulations, but at a more intense rate, moving on to fewer but more elaborate sims as they mature. Early simulations deal with very basic things like walking, talking and understanding emotion that infantrs and toddlers must master. That moves on to more advanced skills like reading, writing and fine motor control early on. Significant emphasis is paid to discipline and obedience, young Sidhae being instructed to obey their tutors (digital AI avatars) immediately and without question. Younglings are allowed to socialize with each other in various settings and scenarios to build their social skills, unacceptable behaviour being eliminated by pain conditioning.

It is fully possible for a young Sidh to die, oftentimes repeatedly, in these simulations, simulated death being inflicted for failing a task or otherwise doing something in the simulation that would reasonably result in death in the real world. The experience is very traumatic to the young mind, and the progenitors want to avoid creating the impression that death is reversible, so the young Sidhae in the sim are instructed to avoid potentially-deadly behaviour same as they would be in the real world.

Any task will be presented to the young Sidh repeatedly, often in alternating settings, until the youngster successfuly completes it. Failure is invariably punished painfully, especially in later stages when the young minds have developed conscience and a sense of guilt, this also allowing the implementation of collective punishments. The purpose is to firmly instill the young Sidhae with the idea that their actions and failures will invariably have consequences on others as well as themselves.

During their Dreamtime, young Sidhae are intentionally exposed to traumatic events in order to teach them to never back down, never quit, and never give up. A classical example that many Sidhae recall from their Dreamtime is being brutalized by a bigger and stronger bully over and over again, the situation being replayed endlessly until they would muster their courage and strength and defeat it. Some of these character-building events are intentionally so traumatic as to cause mental breakdowns and even insanity in some, these failed individuals being euthanized (their demise cast as permanent death in the sim) as unfit to become Sidhae.

---

This conditioning is largely what breeds the famed Sidh willpower. The average young Sidh fresh out of a progenitory vat already comes with a will to survive and keep going that would put many special forces soldiers to shame. Such is their strength of mind that it even confers the average Sidh with a considerable resistence to psionic attacks.
Freedom doesn't mean being able to do as one please, but rather not to do as one doesn't please.

Diopolisian parenting is old-school authoritative, of the type once common throughout the west. Corporal punishment is common, and children are expected to do useful work. Gender roles are taught from a young age. However, children are expected to seek independence and maturity, and are encouraged to ask questions and make decisions.

Most parents in Alizeria would be considered Permissive however this was always traditionally balanced out by the fact that the school system and church, which both had and have significant influence over Alizerian children, would be considered authoritarian.

As such, while a parent might turn a blind eye to a child's bad behaviour, once they get to school or sunday school, either headmaster or priest would probably administer a hell of a punishment - and most parents use the threat of telling the priest or teacher or their child's bad behaviour as a means of keeping them in line.

Children are segregated from birth by gender, with the girls being raised by their mothers and the boys being sent to the compounds. Generations of this have led to the mother giving up the son without protest, believing that he requires special care and that the child is better off with the state.

The girls are raised relatively normal lives that are comparable to RL Europe or North America, but without any boys. They have absolutely zero contact throughout their lives with the other gender, unless they are deemed suitable.

The boys are restricted to compounds just like the men, and are largely raised by the men within. They are taught by female teachers in a building connected to the main building, never seeing anything of the outside world except for the sky from the central courtyard that's present in all the compounds. The boys are indoctrinated to be submissive and passive, which helps with the stability of Fendur's unequal society.

(The bread and circuses model is used to keep male rebellions from breaking out)

Authoritative parenting is the best label for both, with it not being harsh or too strict, but not too soft either.

Children are very strong, mature and disciplined from youth, being taught to farm right when they learn to talk, or to fight as soon as they show strength. Weak and bratty children are seen as a form of distinct failure and disrespect.

In Alinghi the parentings form is to try to grow up a child to live in a civil society, making respect for everyone. The parents try to not improve their personal convinction or thier aspiration for to their son, but try to incentive the son's aspirations, because the child is considered a different person.

The education is not "agressive", the smashing is very rare adn for very serious motive (in some canton is illegal smashing to thier son), because, is consider not effective because the children didn't learn why he goes wrong, but he will have a good behavior with fear not understand that have a godd behavior is neccessary to live in a civil society. The common puntion to the child is to put the child an isolted place of the house (never in the bethroom) say that thing he do wrong, and force to be here for a lot of time, and at the end the children must say to the parents that things he do wrong. For the boys above 10 years, there are a seizure of a period of time of a thing what like him.

Parenting differs greatly between the classes and even within individual families. In general however, it is normal that the father adopts a somewhat authoritarian attitude towards parenting whilst the mother is less strict. Obedience to commands is however very important, and children are typically expected to be seen and not heard. When an adult enters a room, it is customary for any children to rise in acknowledgement. Children are subjected to demands such as chores and work, however are also given a degree of freedom in other areas, such as being allowed to play outside in the streets or parks during free time or to engage themselves in other pursuits as they please. The end goal in all Nortan parenting however, is that children are taught to respect their elders and have a love of God, King and country.

Aski Banton parents typically take a laissez-faire approach to parenting, where children are given freedom to act, however must deal with the consequences of their actions. Parenting is considered a common affair, with children raised not only by the direct parents, but by other relatives and friends of the family also, to the point where it can be said that young Aski Bantons are raised more by the tribe than their parents.

It is the job of the community's elders to impart on the new generations practical and spiritual wisdom and guidance, and for the younger adults to engage the child in practical activities that will allow them to grow into skilled and productive men and women. The child's parents, parents' siblings, and grandparents will concern themselves primarily in caring for the child's needs.

An infant will spend most of its time in constant contact with its mother. As a child, they are expected to become more independent, and will begin being taught practical skills for survival. As adolescents they are expected to become more self-sufficient, but are still ultimately dependent. Once they reach their twenties, they are considered fully-fledged adults, and must survive on their own. Most will have children of their own at this point, and it is considered normal that many will leave their community of birth to seek a new one, possibly never to be heard of again.

Arendellean society as a whole is very progressive, permissive and informal -- even more so after Phoenix Empress Helga took power in 2009 -- and parenting is no exception. Children in Arendelle are given a lot of freedom both at home and at school; consequently, youth rebelliousness is not a problem because there is very little to rebel against. For example, the legal drinking age is 15, so alcohol is much less of a temptation for Arendellean young adults because they've likely tried it already.

All forms of corporal punishment are absolutely forbidden. In addition, parents may not indoctrinate or "brainwash" children with their own views. This is why homeschooling is not permitted.

Exodian society is very much tailored towards permissive parenting- with the younger gun ownership, drinking, driving and ages of consent, and a society and education system that encourages children to make their own decisions and be more independent and responsible, it's rather obvious that children are highly independent. Besides, corporal punishment is illegal and considered assault.

Some say this stemmed from the large amount of millennials and younger, more progressive parents in Exodian society, or maybe even the inspiration of a fifteen-year-old Governor Shang running away from his foster home to join the national militia.

A common and popular trend in Atlantean parenting involves a rather authoritarian parenting style at youth which gets progressively permissive as the child ages.

In the early stages of a child's development, Atlantean children are rather restricted, though there tend to be no unreasonable restrictions, for the purpose of instilling discipline. As a child grows up, he or she is given more freedoms, though not at an unreasonable rate.

When it comes to protectiveness, a parent tends to be protective (though not 'soccer mom' levels) towards a young age, but tends to loosen up as the child ages.

As for other parenting styles, Atlanteans tend to see Western-style permissive parenting as an appropriate style applied carefully upon reaching older ages, Asian-style authoritarian parenting as an appropriate starting point upon building a child's discipline, and 'soccer mom' protectiveness as "too excessive, and may spoil the child".
Uses certain NS stats.

Atlantis is an MT nation that is the third richest country in the world, behind only China and the United States. It is closer to the USA, UK, Italy and Spain (in that order, though Italy and Spain is probably tied) culturally than it is Greece. It is also a naval power.

And no, Atlantis is not underwater: It has a land area around the size of France.

Pros: Classical liberalism, democracy, the West, Brexit, Viktor Orban, free education, strong military
Cons: Authoritarianism, fascism, communism, multiculturalism, Islamism
