They're MT in the same way that WWE is MT. Its WEE but instead of big muscular dudes hitting each other with chairs its a Japanese guy in a toy robot versus some Burgers in a Frankenstein piece of construction equipment.

Pretty much, just looking at it all my main question is why not just use excavators?

I only watched up to the first battle which was so stupidly lame, how on earth did they expect to stop a 6.5ton thing moving at 18mph with a paintball gun that barely dents cars...

Honestly I recall more exciting "battles" and interesting engineering on scrapheap challenge (junkyard wars for the shoutier less fun American version).

Because rule of cool. Also you didn't miss much. First fight was the only good one, if only because of how hilarious the one punch take down was. The second the robots just sorta got each other in a hold until they both stopped and when they resumed it we got an obviously scripted bit where Megabot tore apart a lighting rig and twirled it around smashing the announcer's table. This somehow defeated the Japanese robot and tied the score at 1-1 which means it was a decisive American Victory. To be honest I found the Q&A afterwords to be more interesting than the actual fight which was recorded weeks ago and edited together into something flashier.

I'm RPing a Palmyrian nuclear-powered merchant vessel whose reactor maintenance crew were already getting sick of radiation poisoning. How could a reactor leak possibly happen during the course of the vessel's voyage, without getting noticed for a few months?

incompetence

It would have to go beyond mere incompetence and into wilful negligence for the crew of a nuclear powered anything to not have any kind of functional radiation monitoring, particularly for crew actively working with the reactor.

Parthan is likely tge guy for fun fun reactor stuffs and possible mishaps.

Well, to make it more realistic, I've taken into account some malfunctions in the detection system, as well as 48 hours elapsed time instead of a few months.

there are numerous redundant radiation detection systems.

Right down to utterly low tech solutions like radiation badges, which don't really "malfunction"

Sabotage by a foreign power with an intimate knowledge of your ship's reactor design and safety systems.

It's really the only likely way.

Aside from gross incompetence at all levels going all the way back to the reactor and ship's basic design.

First, thank you very much for your interest in Operation Overmatch! Over the last few weeks Operation Overmatch has been highlighted in the media to include Defense News, Army Times, Stand-To!, Task and Purpose, Military.com, Real Clear Defense, Defense Systems, Business Insider, and few international publications. This press has generated 1,125 Soldiers, DA Civilians, a few Marines, Sailors, and Airmen for the Beta Test.

Over the coming days you will receive an email with a Steam Key and instructions how to download Operation Overmatch from Steam. You will be able to check out the game environment and vehicles in Operation Overmatch. We really look forward to your constructive feedback to improve the game environment and gain your insights about future force capabilities. There are a few game servers operational for multi-player games and will add more in the coming weeks. So, you may have some difficulty getting into the multiplayer game initially. There is a Steam forum to discuss ideas about Operation Overmatch as well as discuss ideas about manned/unmanned teaming, vehicles, tactics, and other things that occur to you.

You are an integral part of Operation Overmatch development! You will see your ideas and recommendations come to life over the coming months.

In the meantime, check out operationovermatch.com to see the latest video.
Again, thanks for your interest and we look forward to your feedback!

If you still got an enterprise (military) email account, you should be good, but you can use a civilian email too.

Have the ship be constructed by capitalist private ship builders who cut one corner too many in order to earn more money, possibly in combination with a government corruption scandal.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.

again it's basically impossible for a reactor to leak in such a way as to make the crew sick without them realizing that there was a reactor leak long before it started making them sick, even then they would recognize the symptoms almost immediately and begin taking steps to limit exposure.

Meanwhile, I have a question.

Soviet combat manuals continue insisting that a Dock Landing Ship can be done in by 2-3 impacts from a 155mm/152mm gun.

How is this meant to occur? These are pretty big boats.

By starting fires, presumably.

It depends on how that number was obtained. Classically a number like this would be obtained by examining something like crashed bombers and seeing what impacted them before they crashed. But I doubt the USSR ever lost that many dock landing ships. Or sank that many. More likely I think there was a semi-empirical formula that tried to relate warhead characteristics, ship size and terminal effects that was probably created by examining a very large number of damaged or lost small-midsize unarmoured ships. The Soviets certainly had this kind of data from WWII experience.

In any case the number is probably a mean with a large spread. Actual ships would be taken out by somewhere between one (a direct hit on the bridge or engine for example) and "many" (if the shells consistently fail to strike anything important an LSD sized vessel could plausibly absorb a lot).
