Postal Services in YN

Postby Philjia » Sat Oct 14, 2017 4:18 pm

Is there one or several? What transport do they use? Who owns them?

The only national postal service in Philjia is the Philjian Royal Postal Service, which is owned by the government. Most letters and parcels travel by rail for the majority of their journey, with commuter style trains covering medium distances, and large express trains carrying long haul post. Premium rate long distance post is carried by cargo plane. Post is taken to and from railway stations and airports by the most appropriate vehicle for the task. This is generally a van, but could be a lorry, 4x4, bicycle, or quad bike. Most settlements have a post office, or one in close, proximity, where letters and parcels can be deposited, and stamps can be purchased for sending letters from post boxes.

The Imperial Courier's Service is the Crown sanctioned (owned and monopolized) postal service of the Empire, delivering letters and packages across the breadth of our vast domain and its colonies. Competition is strictly forbidden. The service is mostly efficient but suffers from the complacency of most monopolies. It answers to the Ministry of Culture.

National post service delivers once a day except on certain holidays. Privately owned services deliver multiple times a day, and generally faster, but you have to pay for those services on a subscription basis.

There's an Exodian National Postal Service, which is state-operated and owned. Other privately owned postal agencies exist, of course.

The Gandoor National Mail Service is the national postal service of Gandoor, it was established in 1610 as the Gandoor Royal Post and was formally renamed to the Gandoor National Mail Service in 1904, at the establishment of the modern Democratic Republic of Gandoor.

100% owned by the government since its inception, the GNMS has a legal monopoly on the delivery of letters, although private corporations are allowed to provide package delivery and courier services.

There are hundreds of postal services in Mon Ling, and all of them are private companies. The average citizen receives most of their mail in a truck which is owned by a company in their town or a nearby town.

Lancov Mail is the government postal service, with at least one branch in every community. It holds a legal monopoly on letter delivery and competes with private companies for parcel and package delivery. It receives very little funding from the central government, most of its revenue is provided by fees and stamps. Post offices also act as miniature government field offices where citizens can obtain forms, register to vote, renew licenses, and apply for passports.

It also operates a postal savings system for low-income communities, to lessen the demand for payday loans and similar predatory services.

Mail is run primarily by three large companies with government support and regulation. These are: Paper go, Trans-letter, Mailrun. They work via government funded cars and bicycles though they must pay their employees themselves.

The National Postal Service Administration of the People's Republic of Zhouran is a government agency responsible for providing postal service in the nation. Established in late 1957, it is subordinate to the Central Council. Its responsibilities include protecting state interests and consumer rights, and supervising the national postal network and universal postal delivery services. The Premier of the Central Council appoints a director.

The NPSA operates in three core areas: letters and associated services; retail merchandise and agency services; and parcels and logistics. It offers delivery services, retail products, financial services, logistics and fulfillment services, and direct marketing and database management services. The NPSA operates normal mail delivery as well as express/courier services.

The only postal service that operates in Syadei is The Imperial Courier. However, due to how dominant technology is and with every generation of the Syadec people having grown up with technology, there is no lack of fluency, meaning that mail physical mail practically become redundant and the only thing that TIC gets used for now is couriering deliveries such as parcels.

We don't have house numbers or street names, so our postal service has never been very efficient.

Most people pick up their mail at General Delivery. Most drug stores, convenience stores, etc. have postal substations, so it's fairly convenient. You do have to have a clear description of how to find the appropriate substation, so address labels are often in the form of a pamphlet or booklet.

Recently, the Post Office has become one of Fatatatuti's leading Internet Service providers.

Postal services are private and there are thousands throughout the country, but the most famous is the Opérateur Postal, which although private is the most used by all. There is also a public service, but it is mostly used for government parcel service and illegal cocaine.

English Regions Post (ERP) is owned by the Federal government, it works in conjunction with English Regions Post Offices (ERPO) which is also owned by the state. They have a monopoly in 74/76 of states, while in the remaining two states (probably the most economically liberal) there are two private operators named "Q Delivery" and "Voila" who can deliver parcels only. Prices for stamps are subsidised for those countryside through higher costs in the city in order to bring equity to everyone. There are two postal deliveries every day, one in the morning and one in the evening, with postal deliveries banned on Sunday and on Saturday evenings.

The Visayan Postal Service (VPS) is the government-owned postal service of the Confederation. Facing competition from private postal companies for all forms of deliveries, it has adopted the unofficial moniker of "Doers of Dirty Deeds," delivering packages most private companies steer clear of.

Postal Services in YN

Postby Great Nortend » Mon Oct 16, 2017 2:39 am

The General Post Office (GPO) is the organisation responsible for the conveyance of the Letters Mails and the Letters Ordinary. It holds the monopoly on public inland and foreign mails in Great Nortend, and also holds the exclusive warrant for the carriage of inter-county parcels, and in most counties is also the only provider of public parcel deliver services. It is a department of the Crown, which appoints the Lord Master of Mails, a sinecure position associated with the Lord Lieutenant of Eamshire. In practice, the Postmaster General, also under Commission from the Crown, controls and manages the day-to-day operations of the GPO. Postmen and postmasters wear distinctive green and red uniforms.

The official responsibility of the GPO is to deliver the Letters Mails, which are made up of all official Court, Government, Ecclesiastical or Crown letters and parcels. However, the main job the GPO undertakes is the carriage of ordinary civilian letters known as Letters Ordinary as well as. Every day, over 80 million letters are posted by and delivered to businesses and people in Great Nortend, accounting for over 70 per cent of the GPO's workload.

The GPO has sole rights to the carriage of letters under the weight of 6 oz. Postage fees are determined by King's Regulations for the General Post Office. Presently, there are two main types of carriage: ordinary post and second class post. Letters mails are delivered by the mails post more urgently. Ordinary post guarantees that letters and cards correctly addressed, paid for and sent before 5 p.m. will, provided the destination is within Great Nortend, be delivered by the next working day's evening post whilst those sent after 5pm and before 10 a.m. will be delivered by the morning post the working day after, except in exigent circumstances. Ordinary post costs 1d for letters below 3 oz, ¾d for cards and ½d for postcards. Within the local postal region, morning collections will be delivered by the evening post, and vice versa. Second class post typically will be delivered within four days and costs approximately half as much.

Deliveries are made by postmen generally twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Morning post is delivered from 6·30 a.m., typically finishing around 8·30 a.m. depending on the day and individual circumstances. Evening post is delivered from around 6·30 p.m. to 8·30 p.m.. The morning collection occurs at 9 a.m., after the morning post, and the evening collection at 6 p.m., before the evening post. In cities, there are often more collections and deliveries in a day. Sometimes it is even possible to send a letter, receive its reply, send off a reply, and receive another reply all in the same day, although for such rapid communication telegrammes are more reliable.

The Federal Post is a government agency. It has a monopoly on international mail and delivers over 90% of domestic letters, but competes with private companies in the market for parcel delivery.

The Federal Post cannot be privatised without amending the Fundamental Statute (constitution). The opposition Caritist Social Union has proposed that the Federal Post be reorganised into a more autonomous, largely employee-governed organisation with the freedom to acquire other assets such as real estate and to use its vehicle fleet and logistics infrastructure for other profitable purposes in addition to carrying out its federally-mandated postal duties.

Postmen are armed and authorised to retaliate against bandits, dogs, and drivers who cut them off on the road with lethal force.

The Dirlandic Postal Office is run by two pelicans (night shift and day shift) that handle sent and saved letters and parcels, and a postie pelican flies every 9am and 5pm to send out the mail. Pete is very friendly, but often rushes to get all the mail sent before he eats the fish in his bill pouch and grabs a coffee.

Like all industries in Watchelan, the post is a state-owned monopoly. The Postal Ministry is responsible for the prompt and efficient delivery of all mails, packages and parcels throughout the Dominion. Postal Couriers deliver by foot, bicycle and motor van, depending on their route. Every village legally recognized must have a post office and Postal Officer assigned to it.

The "Heralds", as the National Postal Service is known, are a government-run postal service. There are a handful of private carriers, who mostly deal in packages and other non-standard things. The Heralds are nation-wide and used by everyone.

The logistics involved rely heavily on existing infrastructure, including ferries and a lot of (passenger) rail. The postal service also has its own rail lines, in some cases, and otherwise uses their own vehicles.
