As someone who helps out at a Scout Group in the UK, I never understood the issue here. I help out with the 8-to-10 section, and about a third of our group are girls. I see no problem with that, and thus I never got why Americans have issues with it.

(Eagle Scout here) I'm sure this has been reiterated a hundred times by now but it kinda makes sense. Girl Scouts are miles behind the Boy Scouts as far as activities and prestige. I have a friend who did GSA and eventually quit because she was frustrated that her troop (or whatever they're called in GS) never actually did anything.

Of course, not all troops are equal so I'm sure there's plenty of Boy Scout troops which are equally inactive, but for the most part I'd say this would be a good option for girls who want something more than what your average Girl Scouts organization offers.

Also don't forget that Venture Scouting exists, which is a co-ed version of BSA which ranges from ages 14-21. Honestly it's quite similar to the Boy Scouts except obviously you can stay in it longer, and they focus more on doing bigger activities and there's not really a ranking up aspect to it as far as I could see. Really having girls in the Boy Scouts would sort of be like making them more like Venture crews. Again, I think this would be a great opportunity for girls who want to have the prestige and ranking aspect that BSA offers.

Although this will probably result in about a million more safety flyers and handouts and paperwork due to the co-ed nature if this becomes a full-on thing. Also the naming situation is totally ridiculous.
