Rostil is a closed-world MT/PMT/FanT roleplaying and worldbuilding region.

Founded in 2010, Rostil is a venerable community seeking to offer an active, engaging experience in roleplaying and worldbuilding, that is both well-developed, and dynamic. Set in a closed world, in an alternative universe separate from both real-life and the great NS multiverse, we have extensive opportunities open to all potential members, from conflicts, to diplomatic incidents, and everything in between. Rostil is a complete world, in its own solar system, with great maps currently maintained by Belkaland.

Interested? Feel free to join our discord (linked on the regional page), and join us in discussion, presence on our Discord server is a prerequisite to membership consideration owing to our extensive use of the service for communication, planning, etc. We are always looking for new members to help us build an interesting world. We do not expect you to be active every day and in every aspect of the region. More interested in lore building than writing RPs? Not a problem. We welcome both new and longtime players, and we'd be glad to have an extensive community, with many play styles.

Community Rules and Guidelines
1. There are two defining versions of Membership to Rostil, there are Officers and there are Members. Officers fill roles of Regional Officers that oversee aspects of the community and world of Rostil; these positions range from being in charge of regional history and meshing the various national histories into one overarching one to being the Regent, someone appointed to head the region in absence of the Founder who acts as an Administrator and who is the final authority on regional issues. Of Members there are two subcategories, A Member is someone who writes on NationStates/The Rostil Forum, and a Contributor is someone who does not post very often but takes part in world-building.
2. Obtaining Membership to Rostil occurs on an application basis. A potential member applies to Rostil, and one of Rostil’s Officers or the Founder approve or deny on the application after thorough examination of the applicant. Potential Members who are denied may reapply at a later date. Potential Members who are accepted will be ‘upgraded’ to Member after the completion of a Basic Factbook which provides a moderate amount of info on your basic national data, such as a short summary of it's history, population, basic description of how the government works and a basic description of the culture.
3. Membership to Rostil comes with expectations of activity; including posting activity on the NationStates Forum and/or the Rostil Off-Site Forum. Failure to meet activity expectations will result in ejection from Rostil, which may be appealed once per infraction. Waivers for activity exemption due to life circumstances such as illness, housing, finance etc are granted and last thirty days. An extension due to extenuating circumstances may be granted. There is no limitation on waivers; we understand that sometimes life simply gets in the way. However; waivers of activity are not excuses to be inactive, and are only given out to people who actually need them.
4. Members who are deleted by NationStates for whatever reason (inactivity, moderator action, et cetera) are no longer members of Rostil. As you must be a member of NationStates to be a part of our community, if you are not a member of NationStates, then you are not a member of Rostil.
5. Membership Posting Requirements are as follows: 1 post per week per thread involved in; a post constitutes at least two paragraphs of well edited text and may be carried out in any thread covering any topic. The Rostilian Compendium is a repository for short stories which do not fit the requirements for a full thread. The Rostilian News Wire is about events in your nation, past or present and do not fit the requirements for a full thread.
6. With respect to IC activities, there is to be no god modding, wanking, meta gaming, actions of deceit, etc. There is no "Ignore Cannon" on Rostil and no legitimate action can be ignored.
7. Finally; you are expected to be cordial and respectful at all times with regards to your fellow members. We encourage discourse and discussion but will not tolerate disrespect, bigotry or similar dissociative behavior.

Please complete the following application. We'll be back with your shortly to let you know that you've been accepted, or speak with you with suggestions for improvements for you to join.

Important notices for applicants (please read me!)
  • Our great reformation is complete, leaving many holes in the fabric of our little world, positions are open for new players and for old ones. Our lore is being reworked from the ground up nearly! Our new political map is also complete and with it claims are now open again!
  • You may either link to a previous RP or write a paragraph or two from scratch for the RP sample. A good, professional news article is acceptable as an RP.
  • You may write about anything for your RP sample. Here's some ideas if you get stuck: Your country's generals inform you of an impending nuclear strike; An assassin strikes on the Queen's wedding day; A newspaper article about a hurricane
  • Please don't claim to be a great power from the start, we have several. There is room for growth however!
  • We would prefer it if you placed your nation in a culturally realistic position, we have cultural maps to help with that decision however there are exceptions (such as ex-colonies).
  • While the IC population of Rostil is much higher than reality, many of our nations are small and we request that you do not claim a population at the start in excess of fifty millions. Note: The population on your NS page does not matter to us.
  • Finally, Rostil is a setting that is fantastic; in some ways this is science-fiction, we have giant flying battleships and railguns that fire into outer space to engage asteroids, and it other ways it is fantastic; magic, several systems of which vary between members, exists, and divinity has long been established to be real, literally divine monarchs rule several countries, among other examples. We don't want this to scare you off, the reverse is the truth, we'd like you to add your own ideas to this system of urban fantasy we have going, where the 'modern day' and the fantastic meld together.

BASIC DETAILS
IC name: The Kingdom of Sarmatia
Population: 35,000,000
Language(s): Sarmatian, Birkainian, Aydian, and many others
Main culture/ethnic group: Sarmatians, Scythians, Azhadstani
Capital: Długiej
Government type: Devolved monarchy
Leader(s): Her Majesty, Queen Leimeiê Krall; High Warden Tamura ; Prime Minister Irganos
Nation description (at least a paragraph, please): The Kingdom of Sarmatia is the ancient homeland of the Sarmatian people, residing in southern Sotia, bordering the City States of Adiya to the north, the Pharaohs of Azhadstan to the south on the Sotian coastline, flatlands and deserts. The Kingdom's namesake comes from the Sarmatian people, who are the primary ethnic group of the country and have resided in the the lands since the previous millennia. Today, the kingdom is a multi-ethnic populated country of over thirty five million people, with Sarmatians, Scythians, Birkainians, Azhadistani, Adiyans and other Sotian groups all living amongst their populace. Along the tradition of their forefathers, magic is prelevant within Sarmatian society and geography, they however have a similar opinion on "dark" magics much like their Adiyan neighbors.

One of the key points in history for the Kingdom was the Nightfall, briefly summarized as the evil god Czernobog being summoned into reality by his cult of dark-worshippers and did war with the ancient Sarmatians, a war that left the lands ravaged and heavily damaged. A large majority of their people migrated north, through the mountains and leaving the deserts behind, and would settle in what is now Poland-Lithuania, where their descendants continue to live. However, a section of the population chose to not forsake their ancient homelands and instead work towards continue the clamoring battle with darkness, and also repairing their lands. The magicians worked to dispel the Fel Storms, pockets of dark magic that manifest into physically, mana-draining, damaging storms that infect patches of land and areas of all sizes; combating and dealing with these storms as been apart of Sarmatian way of life for centuries. Both the storms and the hellspawn that come with them have led to the highly militarized society, especially in areas near a storm pocket, and as such, many area's are built up like a defense for a war - a endless war, raging for centuries.

The Kingdom itself is rich in minerals and with the locality geography of sand, oil, glass and tropical foods are also available to be found heavily within the kingdom, though imports from abroad on more diverse mixes of food, heavy machinery, aerospace materials are common as domestic industries are still more traditionally oriented, a commonality shared with the Estainian-Alisonian Empire.

Map claim: Ancient lands of Sarmatia, I tried to draw this as best as I could according to what Aurelian described to me, here

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What role do you envision yourself playing in international relations?: Regional power at best; Sarmatia is concerned with keeping foreign terrors away from her borders and has interests in local politics and affairs in Lycia, Adiya, Azhadstan and other southern Sotian areas, but also keeps most of her attention inward.
Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: While the heavy plague of the felstorms is something now left behind in the medieval ages, they still do affect and exist in parts of the kingdom. However, the widespread availability of more land, and natural resources found in Sarmatia have led to successful industrial revolutions, reforms, and the establishment of a moderate import/export sector. However, the local geography prevents the mass production of sufficient food levels, and thus must turn itself towards international markets to buy the food needed to keep the nation fed.
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: Of course.

OOC STUFF
How did you hear about Rostil?: Work with Sylvanea in real life
Other NS accounts: None
Roleplay sample:

ON:

"Bridge to Jones. We're approaching the Lazarus star Commander." Peterson reported.

"Acknowledged, I'm on my way."

Moments later, Melody walked out onto the bridge. "All stop helm."

Sav's tail flicked as she touched the controls, calling out, "Helm All Stop, at station keeping, Sir."

"Well Petty Officer Burg, this is your show. How do you wish to proceed?"

Burg watched his screen for a moment before turning, "Helm, bring us to fifty thousand kilometers then all stop. Captain, my team and I have equipped a probe with a metaphasic shielding that should allow it to fly through the corona and get up close data and samples," he said.

Sav called out, "Aye, Sir, forward one tenth impulse."

Melody sat herself in the Captains chair. "By all means Chief, launch when you are ready."

... David was sat at his station, eyes constantly roaming his expansive panel. All Departments were showing nominal power usage and he could tell that sensors, shields, and weapons' systems were all at one hundred percent. He looked up at the large view-screen, watching the enormous phenomenon that was the Lazarus Star ...

The ship slowly closed the gap between the Lazarus Star. Sav was listening for anything amiss from Tactical or Sciences as this was getting them close to the star.

Lieutenant Scarlet looked over the readings from his console. "Shields have fallen 3%. Compensating to reduce the amount of strain from the star."

... "Commander, I'm reading a zero point zero two percent drop in power throughout the ship but Engineering are compensating." David informed them ...

"Keep an eye on that Commander." Melody replied.

Sav reached the required ranged. She called out, "Merlin at Fifty thousand kilometers, now at station keeping, Sir."

Pete didn't reply, instead targeting the area the probe would search and launching it, "probes away, it will be a few hours to collect all the data."

Melody walked over and stood discreetly behind Tan. "How's you're investigation into the derelict coming along?"

... David turned his seat to face the Exec' before running his hand over his clean-shaven head:

"I just don't get it to be honest." he said, bringing sections of information onto his panel for her to review, "We know for a fact that that ship was ours, this one, not a replica, so it would be exactly the same age as this one, but we are also aware that it somehow was sent back approximately five thousand yeas into our past and ended up here for us to pretty much stumble across. But then it gets more tricky ..... The sections we managed to transport into the Cargo Bay are giving us more headaches. There seems to be minute, and by minute I mean less than one part in a billion, organic cells within the sections. It's possible we're picking up on the result of someone dying and landing against, or bleeding out against the bulkhead, but it's weird to say the least, maybe the Medical Officer will be able to tell us more on that."

He said, changing the panel to display more information while glancing up at the view-screen then back, he didn't want any more surprises, he had enough to cope with:

"Then there's the Lazarus Star .... It's practically dead, which makes absolutely no sense, because initial readings say it's less than twelve million years old, practically an infant ... We're picking up traces of neutrino's and scant biological readings emanating from a nearby planetary body, but we can't find the thing. I could be that at some point in the timeline the crew transported down to the surface, who knows .... It's possible it's behind the Star, which would explain the faint readings, might be worth taking a look at some point. Finally, at least until the next mystery presents itself, the hallucinations. I've had no recurrence, but we have had reports from several crew that they have experienced 'strange' dreams, where they thought they saw ghosts from the derelict, and we can't dismiss the fact that some are frighteningly realistic." he finished, subconsciously putting a hand on the phantom wound in his chest ...

Melody nodded thoughtfully "Chief Burg has been looking into the sensor information we managed to collect inside the nebula. You two should compare notes when he's finished with the Lazarus star. In the meantime.......". Melody pressed her comm badge "Bridge to sickbay. Caroline, have you managed to find anything from the bodies we managed to beam over from the derelict before it exploded?"

"Commander, I think you need to come down to sickbay. What we have found is mindblowing," The blond doctor replied over the comm.

Melody frowned. "I'll be right down." She looked at Tan "I'll be in sickbay, you have the bridge."

... David rose from his seat after being addressed by the Exec and sat in the center seat. The ship wasn't going anywhere, having been placed on effectual station-keeping while the appropriate scans were conducted. He took the time to look around the pristine Bridge, remembering the decayed, shattered, and decrepit Bridge he was on only hours earlier, and wondered what had caused them to go back in time: Was it something there were about to do, something they had zero control over whatever their actions from this point in time, it was impossible to say, but it didn't prevent his concern rising a fraction before he returned his attention to their own bridge ...

Sav, being out in the fighters for most of the Merlin's time in the Nebula, had not experienced any of the 'hallucinations'. However, from what she was overhearing, it wasn't figments of imagination, but small time loops playing out of captured auric energies. It was the same as found in a residual haunting. The same events played over and over, the 'ghosts' were not interactive, and the energies were usually captured into quartz materials or limestone. Limestone would not be in the nebula, but quartz materials formed of exotic nebula material, not to mention used in Federation technology, well, there was a goldmine to keep the 'loops' playing. She did not say anything, though, as she knew sciences had probably figured that out, especially seeing as the burst of temporal occurrences would have locked those loops into place. She could only hope those anomalies were over and not destined to be retraced by the current crew.

Postby Vlachia and Moldau » Mon Aug 21, 2017 11:25 am

BASIC DETAILS

IC name: The Grand Principality of Vlachia-Moldau

Population: 18.5 Million

Language(s): Vlachian (Peasants) Latin/Dacian (Nobility)

Main culture/ethnic group: The commoners of Vlachia-Moldau are primarily Vlachian (Slavic with Latin influences), however the nobility is entirely populated by Vampires which are closer in kin to the ancient Dacians.

Capital: Targoviste

Government type: Absolutist Monarchy

Leader(s): Vlad Dracula Tepes (Voivode) Adrian Draculesti (Head of Regency Council)

Nation description (at least a paragraph, please):

Vlachia and Moldau is an Absolutist Monarchy which is entirely ruled by the Draculesti Dynasty and its cadet branches. Following the Year of Night, the Draculesti's, and with them vampires from across the realm saw a rather easy return to power. The initial strikes from Dracula's Satanic legions saw many Basrab-era pilliars of power crumble. (The Death of the Archbishop, the previous royal family being entirely wiped out by demons), in addition the peasants themselves were unable to muster any form of resistance to Dracula, due to widespread famine, disease and death among them. Following the initial takeover, Vlad Dracula began apportioning land to members of his family or close friends of his. Following this, as Voivode, Dracula began to enact laws which saw those of 'impure blood' reduced to a position of near slavery. The peasants were tied to the land of which they resided and they owed their lord a blood tax. (This being their first born)

The neighboring Principality of Moldau, ruled by Gabriel Movilesti, began to call for a crusade against the demonic realm. Seeing this as a slight against himself and his family, Vlad declared war upon Moldau, and called his demonic legions to conquer. The war against Moldau lasted only a few weeks, but the outcry against Dracula's aggression was widespread. In addition to this, Vlad began falling into deeper and deeper rest periods due to how much of his life force was expended to raise such an army from the depths of hell. Finally, in 1723, Vlad Draculesti Tepes fell into a deep sleep, one of which he remains in to this day.

In the wake of this, a Regency council was called in Targoviste. A total of 30 nobles from around the realm deliberated for months until eventually electing Adrian Draculesti, Vlad Draculesti's son, as Regent of Vlachia-Moldau. Adrian Draculesti, also referred to as Alucard, has presided over a relatively progressive administration. In 1950, the traditional blood tax was abolished, as well as laws which forbade outsiders from visiting Vlachia-Moldau. In many respects the country is still rather isolationist, leaving many to refer to it as the 'Hermit Kingdom'.

Map claim:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What role do you envision yourself playing in international relations?: Initially isolationist due to its macabre nature, though the administration of Adrian Draculesti will likely see the Hermit Kingdom branch out quite a bit.
Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Vlachia-Moldau primarily lies primacy on its land forces due to the large swathes of manpower which can be called upon in times of war to service the state. Despite the sizeable levy, much of Vlachia's standing army is equipped with Great war-era weaponry and has been known to employ tactics reminiscent of the era. (With the exception of the Vlachian Sentinels) Vlachia-Moldau has a sizeable navy for a country its size, but is in desperate need of modernisation as many of its vessels are holdouts from the 1940s. In addition, the country has a rather archaic airforce based upon domestic designs from the 1970s.

If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?:
I would likely further cripple the military abilities of Vlachia through a decrease in the levy or otherwise create some form of internal conflict to weaken the state.

OOC STUFF

How did you hear about Rostil?: I've been in contact with a couple of members for a number of years.

Other NS accounts: Bojikami (Main)

Roleplay sample:

The town square sat adorned with the finest wares within the realm below a canopy of tarp and wood. The main square of Targoviste was typically busy with daily commerce, but never this early nor to this magnitude. Just due north of the square, a large crowd of people, consisting of both nobles and commoners from around Wallachia, congregated before the large cathedral. The building itself was rather impressive; it was a sprawling and imposing structure adorned with christian iconography, largely in its stained glass windows depicting various saints or biblical events. The most notable of these, however, was the large iron cross that sat upon the peak of the main steeple and cast a shadow down upon the crowd below.

After much anticipation the cumbersome wooden doors of the cathedral were pushed open by its guards, giving way for the Archbishop of Wallachia and his entourage of priests. The crowd was jubilant, as this was one of the rare times they had seen the Archbishop. Archbishop Zeleia Antonescu rarely made public appearances, largely due to his own contempt he held for the common Wallachian. He was a rather rotund man, being largely immoble sans his lectica which was lifted by four of his guards. Upon finally being set down upon a balcony at the top of the stairs, he made a swift glare around the crowd, his wide and owl-like eyes seeming fully alert even though it was rather common to find a Wallachian clergyman completely off-his-arse drunk.

He took a single, laboured, breath and began to speak: "Never before has the love of God been so strongly felt as it does now." He cleared his throat before resuming. "One year ago today we vanquished the witches and allies of Satan in a great fire set to purge these lands of all evil. As much as I would wish to reassure you all to the success of our mission, I cannot say with certainty that Wallachia is yet fully purged of such treacherous sin." He paused to allow his words to take effect, glaring around the crowd before him. "However, we have struck a great blow to the Devils efforts in Wallachia, for one year ago on this very day Lisa Draculesti, a known witch and conspirator with Satan was burned at the stake..." His speech trailed off in a sudden wave of cheers from the crowd. Zeleia closed his eyes in moderate frustration. He hated being interrupted. Eventually, the cheers died down as he began to resume speaking.

Above Targoviste, the sunny and clear skies were suddenly being replaced with ominous black clouds which almost seemed to completely block out the sun. The Archbishop was undeterred by this and remained speaking. "...and let it be known that in here, Wallachia, we the church are building Gods own kingdom through the labours of-" His speech was suddenly cut off by a loud roaring of thunder. In the middle of the crowd a large fire was still burning as some poor souls had been burned at the stake today, but the dying embers seemed to be revitalised into a towering flame which illiminated the whole square. Within the flame there seemed to be an apparition of a mans face; with slender facial features, a short beard and moustache paired with long hair. Before long, the face began to speak in a booming voice. "I have given you Wallachians one years time to leave Wallachia and remove all marks you have made upon the lands." The face scowled. "And in return, you celebrate the day you have killed my wife?!" Upon the last word the fire erupted outwards, sending out an explosive force which served to shatter the windows of the cathedral and to knock the Archbishop on his back. He scrambled to climb to his feet, but not before he was impaled by a shard of falling glass. The face gazed upon the crowd with malice. "One year, I have given you Wallachians. One year. Now, the day of retribution has come."

The apparition faded into the flaming column, which died down to reveal some sort of flaming hole in the ground leading into some form of abyss. Before long, a loud collective screech came from the hole, and out flew thousands of dark, humanoid figures. Each one stood around 8 feet in stature and had some features resembling the common bat, such as the ears and wings. The people in the square had little time to run before the demons began to descend upon them. Targoviste was a slaughter. In a matter of two hours the lively capital city was reduced to a silent cemetary for tens of thousands. Among the decaying mounds was the royal family, the house of Basrab.
Back within the dark recesses of his castle, Vlad Draculesti sighed and sat upon a nearby chair. His face fell into his hands. He felt no remorse for those who were killed. They were absolute scum to him. He instead sat there, dreading the death of his own wife. Her face, her voice, all of it... it had haunted him since that accursed day.

A new application for a new old request.

BASIC DETAILS
IC name: The Forsaken Realm of Tnemrot
Population: About 90 million
Language(s): Tnemratian (Slavic-based language)
Main culture/ethnic group: Slavic
Capital: Tnemratia
Government type: Totalitarian Oligarchy
Leader(s): The Council of Overlords
Nation description (at least a paragraph, please): Tnemrot is akin to North Korea in its isolation and totalitarianism. Rather than a state focused on a familial dynasty however, it is an oligarchy in the sense of Oceania from Nineteen Eighty-Four. The government dominates all facets of life and all citizens are viewed as owing a debt to society. The nation is ruled by the Council of Overlords with a central leader appointed (think Soviet Politburo) from within this Council to serve as the "Overlord." The populace is largely kept in a state of servitude to the government with their basic needs fulfilled by the government. In a way this is akin to communism in that everyone's basic needs are fulfilled by the government but this is not a communist society.
Map claim: It's evidently still there

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What role do you envision yourself playing in international relations?: The pariah that everyone can point to and say, "Well at least we're not Tnemrot!" Other roles can be developed as RPs progress and as the geopolitical nature evolves throughout the community.
Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Economically, Tnemrot is far from a powerhouse. Its economy is largely based on the concept of self-dependency so there are few - if any - exports and few - if any - imports. The only strength to the economy is that an embargo would not be very effective. What the nation cannot produce or procure within its own borders would largely be considered a non-essential item to the survival of the nation. Militarily, Tnemrot can be considered powerful in that it is a totalitarian state and the military is everything to holding power. The military will be largely based off of non-Western technology with most of it made from within in accordance with the aforementioned policy of economics. The military will not be geared towards power projection or dominantly-offensive operations and will be largely based on defensive standards under the concept that enemies are everywhere. Politically, Tnemrot is a nightmare when you look at it from afar. The government is oppressive on many levels and anything deemed revolutionary is banned. The government maintains power through strength and total control over the lives of its people.
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: Economically there's little strength to reduce; militarily there could be some discussion depending but the military is not geared to be particularly threatening on a large scale; politically a reduction may just lead to regime change so that one is tricky. Any request would be discussed, there's no brick wall of uncooperation.

BASIC DETAILS
IC name: The Second Empire of Anemos Major/Ei Imperyr Dinstei Anemonei Maiorise
Population: ~198 million, as well as an additional ~1 million in the protectorate of Asakura.
Language(s): Three official (Anemonian, High Anemonian, Standard English) and two additional prolific languages (Ragnosian German, Asakuran).
Main culture/ethnic group: 'Anemonise', though this can further be subdivided into a number of historical ethnies (Fiereise, Sailieise, etc).
Capital: Anemos Rei
Government type: Convention Bound Absolute Monarchy
Leader(s): His Imperial Majesty the High Lord, Thryn Erenthi I Wyvernking (current de fato authority lies in the hands of the Lord Loyal, Count Lythfar Fyrkanteryr).
Nation description (at least a paragraph, please): They say that from atop the highest peak in the midst of the homeland, a far gaze northwards will carry you to the edges of ashen Fierei and the same towards the south will lay bare the barren ice of Mirschendillin. A harsh and vast land of sharp contrasts and distinct regions, its dramatic landscapes are more than matched by its fierce and diverse denizens and the proud and terrible history that they bear. United under the Grey Banner of their Wyvernking, the Second Anemonian Empire has developed throughout the fifty years since its resurrection from the ashes of civil war into a technologically sophisticated industrial power, blighted only by their poverty in resources, their isolation, and their prideful bigotry.

The Empire's long history begins with the struggle against another; as the records tell it, it is over a thousand years ago that the House of Erenthi came forth from the masses of Anemos to bring together its many people under a single banner, a banner of resistance. Decisively overthrowing the iron gauntlet of the fanatically religious Ragnosian kings of the north, a new compact is formed, and an empire is born. It is an empire of absolute authority, of the monarchs over their people - and of the people over their monarch. Over the coming centuries, this system would transform from a mere mode of governance to an atheist cult of worship, and would hold in the face of ceaseless adversity. Wars waged by their former rulers would be met by growing martial might fed by the inspiration of experience. The material poverty of the homeland would be answered by trade and colonialism. The Empire would come upon a golden age, the golden age would be usurped by religious strife in the homeland, and the Empire would assert itself even over spirituality and belief by way of imposition and inquisition.

The climax and the nadir come all at once. Anemos in the 20th century is at the height of its power. It is a modern, industrial power, even possessing a handful of colonies about the world and an imperial mindset to match. It is also isolated from the world at large, and consumed; consumed by self-worship, consumed by bigoted isolationism, consumed by its ceaseless conflict with its former master to the north. For decades, it is this that keeps Anemos sheltered from the devastating total wars of the industrial age, but by the end of the 1930s, the rival empires' appetite for war must be sated once more in a devastating crescendo. It is Ragnos that initiates hostilities, but its is Anemos that drives the war to the heights of insanity. For an entire decade, the full industrial might of two nations is clashed against the other until, in 1949, the war is won by the Anemonian Empire for good in the midst of atomic fire. It is only at the end of it all that it sees fit to look inwards, and there it sees the price that it must pay. Ten years of war have ravaged the Empire; the resources have been depleted, the land has been savaged, and the generation of tomorrow have become the casualties of yesteryear. Hubris is met by Nemesis; in 1951, the country is consumed by civil war, heralding another, further, decade of strife.

It is only in the 1960s that some semblance of authority can be resumed, and it is only by way of the formidable charisma of Ilfir Erenthi III that this is able to come about. A new compact is formed between King and People; the Second Empire is formed. From almost the moment of its conception, it is plunged once again into conflict. The remnants of the ravaged Ragnosian Empire have pulled together under a new, ideological banner, and once more the Anemonians display a formidable lack of imagination as the senior echelons of the new Empire's leadership determine that they must assert themselves over the rise of socialism in their corner of the world before it is capable of coming to pose an existential threat to the Second Empire. Another ten years of brutal war ensue, this time low intensity but high casualty, and in a tragedy of history, culminates as before. For the second time, the clouds of atomic death rise above Ragnos, and this time, there will be no state, no authority, no union that rises out of the fragments of what remains.

The Empire is torn equally between its collective moral horror at the crimes they have committed, and unashamed joy at the reclamation of their glory. Through the 1980s and 1990s, they open themselves up to the outside world with one hand, engaging in trade, diplomacy, and peacekeeping, while with the other they continue to exert their authority upon those lands they consider theirs, with another long term military expedition dispatched to the distant land, once a colony, now a protectorate, of Iadori, a mission to decimate socialism that has transformed into a struggle that has yet to end as of today. And so the Second Empire comes into the present era, as an inheritor of a proud and terrible tradition, as the gleeful and remorseful resumption of Anemonian imperial bigotry, as a brittle iron union of the many people of Anemos Major under a single, grey banner of progress and ruin.

Map claim: Like so. A primary landmass neighbouring Daemyrs, as well as a 'protectorate' due south-east of White Sun.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What role do you envision yourself playing in international relations?: While Anemos has historically constituted a fundamentally isolationist power, deviating only from that norm in the direct protection of its interests, the past decades will have seen an unprecedented deviation from this doctrine. Under the governance of the previous monarch, Anemos Major had opened itself to the world as a cosmopolitan power, its advanced economy and its rich culture outstripping the traditional bastions of Anemonian strength - military might and singular authority - as the Empire's assets on the global stage. However, under the chaos of Thryn Erenthi I's ineffectual rule, his effective replacement by his Lord Loyal as the de facto voice of authority, and the countless pressures from within and without afflicting the Second Empire, the Anemonian perspective towards the outside world is undergoing a time of marked transition, with potentially dire consequences.
Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: On paper, the Second Empire retains much of the strength of its predecessor in the previous century; it, by virtue of its socioeconomic condition, fields a powerful military and a technologically sophisticated economy. However, the Second Empire is also crippled; never resource rich, the 20th century has stripped Anemos of what little it initially had, leaving it heavily reliant on overseas trade or covert expansionism. It is demographically devastated, with near ceaseless war in the middle of the previous century manifesting itself in a markedly declined population in the present-day. Its military, while powerful, is occupied by the continuing conflict in Asakura and the outsized influence of the Regions in the governance of Anemonian martial might. In many ways, Anemos is the very inverse of a paper tiger; imbued with the essence of that which could make it great, crippled by the mistakes and poor decisions of the past, present, and likely future.
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: Ideally by expanding on the theme of an ineffectual empire, but I'm of course more than happy to scale down anything.

"Most of us were pretty scared all the bloody time; you only felt happy when the battle was over and you were on your way home, then you were safe for a bit, anyway."
- Colin Gray, 54 Squadron RAF

RAF Wattisham | Suffolk | United Kingdom
0730h - January - 1959

"...mission number seven four, scramble scramble scramble. Acknowledge?"

A thick morning mist was still rolling over the runway at RAF Wattisham when the piercing wail of the scramble siren cut through the lazy silence. Almost at once, the station was running amok with activity; the half-risen sun cast a pale sheen across the airfield as ground crew rushed over open ground, roused from their holding stations by the sudden call to scramble. They ran for the Q-Shed, the hardened shelters in which the on-call interceptors were housed; two brand new English Electric Lightnings sat fuelled and armed with two Firestreak misiles apiece, waiting only for their pilots and the all-clear from the ground crew to take off. The two on-duty pilots rushed out from the ready room, helmets slung over their shoulders as they sprinted for their aircraft amidst the wailing of the sirens; as they clambered into the cockpits of their silvery interceptors, half-dressed crewmen dragged covers off the wings and kicked away the wheel chocks. The pilots ran quick flight checks, just enough to be sure that the flight surfaces were moving as intended, and the cockpit ladders were hauled away as the ground crew scrambled for cover, with two men rushing out in front of the aircraft to direct them out of their shelters. As the sleek fighters emerged out into the half sunlight, their canopies closing over the Lightnings' cramped cockpits, their powerful turbojets were growling; advancing to the end of the runway, the two aircraft came to a momentary stop.

A little over five minutes to runway. Not bad, could do better. The pilot of the lead Lightning glanced left and right from inside the confines of his aircraft with a grimace; hand firmly on the throttle, he pushed it up to full. A steady blue ring enveloped the Lightning's nose cone as the turbojets' growl rose to a fearsome roar, and as the aircraft began to accelerate at a frightening rate over the runway, it was quickly followed by the second aircraft. Gouts of flame spat out of the turbojets as the interceptors picked up speed on the ground, and all at once their noses rose sharply and the silvery aircraft left the ground. Pushed by their powerful engines, they rapidly picked up speed and altitude, and within moments they had left Wattisham behind them as they began to receive the flight orders that would carry them along their intercept vector.

The two English Electric Lightnings of 111 Sqn comprised the Southern Quick Reaction Alert of the RAF. Flying out of Suffolk, they were tasked with the interception of all aircraft threatening to breach British airspace from along the isles' southern arc, usually under the direction of the radar station at Neatishead, in Norfolk. Some ten minutes ago, Neatishead had picked up an unknown at altitude over the North Sea, due southwest;
the armed and fuelled Lightnings would blast out to intercept them at full chat, monitor their activity, then rendezvous with a Valiant tanker, refuel, and make the journey back. A typical scramble and intercept like this would take a handful of hours, usually to head off a Soviet reconnaissance aircraft, perhaps, or a GDR bomber probing the edges of NATO airspace. It was seldom anything out of the ordinary.

Not that the pilots assigned to the duty took it lightly. As the last year of the decade dawned, the tension was palpable. Any pilot assigned to QRA would know that the pressures from within and beyond had increased radically over the past year. Soviet and German aircraft were penetrating British airspace more frequently and recklessly than before, and with every scramble order there would be harsh questions raised by the brass as to why it had taken a few minutes longer than desired. The postwar years had been rife with tension, but somehow, the threat in 1959 felt that much more real. For the pilots in the interceptors and the sailors out at sea,
the spectre of communism had ceased to be the bogeyman of nightly newscasts and was felt instead as a crackling tension throughout the air. Scrambles had once been mere routine, but things felt different, now, as though a tinge of danger had been added to every sortie, as though the promise of something truly terrible lurked around every intercept.

Inside the lead Lightning, the pilot received his flight vector from Neatishead and glanced at his map pouch. Opening the channel to his wingman, he asked "Got that?"

"Loud and clear, Lieutenant. Following your lead, sir." came the enthusiastic, crackly response.

The Flight Lieutenant nodded. "Very good." After a second thought, he added "Keep your fingers well away from the trigger, Boulton - never quite know what'll kick off a world war these days." He got a chuckle in response; smiling, if only half earnestly, the Flight Lieutenant checked his map and vector once more and gently banked the roaring interceptor towards its quarry.

Personal
January 9th 1959

My dear Max,

Thank you for the letter and for your kind words with regards to recent developments in the world at large.

Despite the better efforts of some within H.M.G., I am in no doubt that Britain is simply not destined for mediocrity. I question, as I consistently have, the folly of the United States in its dealings with our nation; their insistence on subjugation as a condition of their amity is one that has not seen success with us, and I expect will see even less of it elsewhere.

Without question, the global situation for Britain has become more complex still. Nasser's trickery in the vicinity of Egypt has stained the region, our relations with the Scandinavian communists on the Soviets' northern flank continue to sour, the Malayan question continues to develop in uncertain directions. All is unclear, but I am in no doubt that the darkening times are precisely why Macmillan must be stymied in Cabinet, and by most accounts this is being done admirably by friends and enemies alike within the Party. His slavish American adherence knows no bounds, and above all this must be held in check. Once this is done, our attention must turn to the vital questions of Empire and Europe. One, I believe, requires intelligent dismantling, while the other requires diligent reinforcement. I am sure that Britain's fate takes it as it always has beyond Europe and into the affairs of the world at large, but we must not neglect the battlefield that lies before us. It is not merely the communists who will fight us for Europe. A reckoning with the Americans must also come.

I am sure that a vindication of my policy concerning Suez and American encroachment awaits. Until then, I must rely on those I have left behind in government to do the job of keeping Macmillan's madness in check. Dulles may be incapacitated, a fact that brings me little heartache, but there will always be others to take his place.

Affectionate regards from both of us.
Yours ever,
Anthony

BASIC DETAILS
IC name: Myseria
Population: 140,098
Language(s): Deeptongue
Main culture/ethnic group: Drow
Capital: None, de facto MOTHER1 command center.
Government type: Noocracy/Technocracy
Leader(s): Collectively under the MOTHER1 and MOTHER-OUTLAND councils.
Nation description (at least a paragraph, please): The Catacombs below the center of the island of Myseria have been there for too long, more than the Drow could remember. Theories that either a previous, advanced civilization or the ancestors of the Drow built the vast tunnel city rival each other, but the Drow still live in those same burrows, only emerging for holidays, exercise, or to get on a battleship on a scouting mission. In the beginning of their recorded history, the Drow originally were squabbling tribes that held certain corridors for themselves and killed each other by the thousands over the right to be called King of a tiny room. Then came the Noocracy Era, when the warlords were crushed and the age of reason and science began. Myseria began sending scouts all around Rostil to learn about the people they share a planet with, but then distanced themselves once they saw the violent potential of humanity. As computers were invented, Myseria developed the MOTHER1 System, to aid the Philosopher-Kings in their rule. If you asked the average human about the Drow, he would most likely tell you that they are a horror story told by mothers to make their children behave. Depending on how sensitive one is, that is true, to a degree. The Drow think the same of humanity, and they figure this animosity would last as long as it helped the Drow cloak themselves from the outside world.
Map claim: Landmass in the Antarctic Circle, western hemisphere.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What role do you envision yourself playing in international relations?: Mostly intrigue, backdoor meetings, and bestowing of deus ex machinas upon favored nations.
Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: In military terms, the Army of Myseria is a minnow. However, the Noocratic Council focuses on a quality instead of quantity method, aiming to make one Myserian soldier equal to 80 human warriors by 2200 AD.
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: I'd slash my economy, but I'm not sure how else.

BASIC DETAILS
IC name: Devlet-i Rumelia; the Rumeli Sultanate
Population: 80 million (close to that of Iran)
Language(s): Farsi (national), Pashto (regional), Uzbek (regional), Turkmen (regional), Kazakh (regional), Kyrgyz (regional), Arabic (religious)
Main culture/ethnic group: (from largest to smallest) Tajik, Pashtun, Hazara, Uzbek, Turkmen, Kazakh, and Kyrgyz
Capital: Khanabad
Government type: the Rumeli Sultanate is a constitutional monarchy with a unicameral parliament
Leader(s): Shah Ramazan Khan Giray
Nation description (at least a paragraph, please): Rumelia is a large and diverse land. On the periphery lie the windswept steppes of Kazakhstan, south of the Siberian taiga. For hundreds of years, these steppes have been home to the Kazakh tribes that continue to roam the plains. Today, the Kazakh steppe is known for the cities of Shimkent and Khansarai as well as the oilfields of Aqtepe. South of the steppes lie the arid wastes Karakum Desert. South of the Karakum Desert lies Sogdia. Centered around the Ramazan River, which flows from the glaciers of the Pamir Mountains, Sogdia is the most densely-populated region of Rumelia. For centuries, its rich cities and fertile floodplains have served as the center of Iranian and Islamic civilization in Central Asia. Today, Sogdia is home to the cities of Khanabad, Samarkent, Tashkent, and Kattakurgan along with most of Rumelia's heavy industry and agriculture. To the east lie the Pamir Mountains, among the highest in the world. For centuries, Empires have risen and fallen trying to control their strategic mountain passes. To the west lie the Caspian Highlands, where verdant forests line the Caspian shore. As one of the more densely-populated regions of Central Asia, the Caspian Highlands are known for their seaside resorts and fishing ports. Rumeli history, culture, and geography is heavily inspired by that of Central Asia and Iran, presenting an alternate history of the region if the Central Asian states managed to resist Russian domination and adapt to a changing world. A detailed description of my history can be found here.
Map claim: Preferably in a region equivalent to Central Asia that, if possible, would match the geography in this (very, very, unfinished) map of my nation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What role do you envision yourself playing in international relations?: Rumeli foreign policy would be similar to that of Turkey, taking an interest in religious affairs throughout the Muslim world while influencing some of its more minor neighbors. However, what sets it apart from real-world Turkey is that it would be as influential as, say, Central Asian states such as Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, which, while being major geopolitical players in Central Asia itself, do not have much influence in the wider world and are instead eclipsed by larger powers such as China and Russia.
Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: On one hand, Rumelia is rich with natural resources and has developed a strong industrial base during the 20th century that has allowed it to adapt to geopolitical trends while resisting foreign domination. On the other hand, internal political issues and the rise of separatist and irredentist political parties in the Pashtun regions present an ever-growing threat to political stability and social cohesion.
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: I would weaken the authority of the central government while granting greater autonomy to the resource-regions on the periphery, possibly increasing the presence of separatist groups in these regions.

OOC STUFF
How did you hear about Rostil?: I was looking for a medium-sized roleplay region after leaving my last one
Other NS accounts: I used to have quite a few, though they're no longer in use
Roleplay sample: My factbook should have a few lengthy entries

BASIC DETAILSA centrist land with two main people and languages. Sorta like the Canada - Quebec situation, but the Quebcians are native.
IC name: The Allied States of Lechien
Population: 9.2 million people
Language(s): Lechienian and Germanic-Russo
Main culture/ethnic group: Lechienian
Capital: Lokar
Government type: Centrist Democracy
Leader(s):Salazar Hugo and his wife, Jenli Hugo
Nation description (at least a paragraph, please): A long time ago, the native people of Lechien lived in a peaceful environment with hardy villages and blooming crops and wildlife. One day, explorers from overseas came and claimed the land for their own interests. The Lechienians fought back the explorers and took back their land. But, the leader of the explorer's proposed a truce that stated that the natives and the explorers could share the land and prosper together, while still having different views on how things should be dealt with.
Map claim: Whatever is available and a moderate size.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What role do you envision yourself playing in international relations?: The foreign aid nation with a powerful military.
Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures:Lechien is a nation with a reasonable econmy and large industries in fishing and book publishing. The people serve in the military from age 5 until they are 25 years old. The people that stay in the army are well respected commanders and soldiers alike. The Lechienian people also are very scientifically advanced.
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: Lechien would have a less educated population and less advanced tech.

OOC STUFFI like space and memes
How did you hear about Rostil?:I was browsing the world dispatch and saw Euro-Asia republics overview.
Other NS accounts: Yaangze and Union of Siberia Natives
Roleplay sample: The archaeologists under President Salazar's order have uncovered a tomb below the capital city. The body inside was very small and fragile, indicating that the corpse was a child. This could mean that Lechien had a dark past or a child ruler at one point.
Age: This is due to the fact that while NS is PG-13, the majority of Rostil's current members are legally adults and we wish to know how many new people will be of younger age than us. I am 17 years of age.

BASIC DETAILS
Cottima:
5.9 million :
Norse/Britannic:
British/Nordic:
Stenhus:
Social Conservative democracy:
President Dalton Janson
PrIme Minister Freda McClellan :

Robert Waylon found an uncultured people that had a semi savage way of life. He thought that they needed to be civilized so he went back home and proposed a building of a colony. When he was in Britannia he got the green light to go back with a small militia and civilize the new people. Waylon came back to the village and found a way to communicate with the natives in the village. The elders brought him some diamonds and showed him where they got them. Robert Waylon took the diamonds back to Britannia to show them off. While Waylon was back in the n Britannia the small group of colonists he brought started to build homes on the outskirts of of the village. While the colonists where building homes the natives got interested in the Britannian colonists and the modern technology they brought with them. The only thing the natives could do was make things out of bronze or copper while the colonists had iron tools and nails. This curiosity and amazement lead to the trading of furs and diamonds for modern iron tools and cast iron pots. When Waylon came back with a bigger militia he stated that he was the appointed governor of Stenhus under his rule he enslaved the natives. This enslavement lead to working in the copper, iron, and diamond mines as well as being servants to their new Britannian overlords. This enslavement happened from 1690 to 1780 when Governor Timothy Anderson stopped the enslavememt. During the term of Governor Anderson he helped the natives and the Britannian population come together to form a nation they called Cottima. This new nation slowly became a reality and in 1799 it gained its independence from Britannia.:
Map claim:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What role do you envision yourself playing in international relations?:
A very underdeveloped nation that is willing to make friends for the sake of trade and help with development.

Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures:
Well my military is based on a mix between the Britannic from of military and Nordic form. Not the strongest army but has a weird structure that makes fighting it different. Economically my nation has a deposit of diamonds. Also theRe is a lot of coal and iron deposits. So it was a good place for Britannia to build a colony.

If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?:
I would make some infighting in the military and some corruption in the government.

IC name: The Kingdom of Aruara
Population: 12.4 million
Language(s): Akimi, containing six different derivative dialects
Main culture/ethnic group: Aruara is homogenous country besides a few outlying sub-island derived ethnic groups. The main ethnic group is known as the Ankimgai, meaning 'The First People' referring to the initial ancient arrivals to the main island.
Capital: Niiraka
Government type: Absolute Militaristic Theocratic Monarchy
Leader(s): The King, known as the Ataksii natively. The current reigning monarch is from the Anarak Clan, Queen-Ataksii Siva. There is a collective theological-warrior council as well that can be considered collective heads of government.
Nation description (at least a paragraph, please):
Thousands of years ago the Akimgai people arrived on the modern day island known as Aruara, since then they have been bred and encapsulized by it's harsh, yet somber beauty. The island consist largely of tundra and boreal terrain, deriving from volcanic acitivity in the past, winters are long and get particularly harsh during the glacial ice build up, summers are short and mild. Despite being in such an isolated climatically band, Aruara is diverse geographically with terrain ranging from tundra plains, seasonal wetlands, rocky valley's and volcanic mountains. When the Akimgai first arrived at what they called home, thousands would die in the struggle of trial and error. Ingenuity and collective tribalism would overcome the periods of harsh winter.

Though the Akimgai and other groups from Aruara did sail up north, becoming adept shipbuilders and sailors, it was largely for hunting or raiding(though rarely). Warring Chiefdom's had developed, each vying for political and economic control over eachother on their small island, only the faint echoes of the outside world could ever be heard, even as trade was established. In contact with outside influences, the country would slowly modernize, while facing it's substance-less environment and internal political strife. (perhaps Aruara was briefly 'colonized'). Modernization birthed a new government, one inspired by the formation of concrete theology and philosophy, assuming that authoritarian rule and a united Aruara would only prosper, paving way for the formal militaristic structure of the nation, with the motto of toil and perseverance in mind. This was further solidified by potential foreign intervention and the want to be stable and self-sufficient.

The militaristic government is based on a variety of warrior ethics and other moral codes, represented by the royal chief clan that presides over the nation. Through Royalist Military rule the nation has been engineered as adaptive and united. Though the nation is relatively small, it's people are fiercesome, patriotic and proud.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What role do you envision yourself playing in international relations?: A large reason by Aruara became relevant was for the oil the island sits on and is surrounded by, offshore drilling is the biggest industry that practically fuels the momentum of the economy, alongside the nation's structural foundations. So i imagine that may come into play. In addition Aruara will always look for a larger, naturally stronger nation to befriend as leverage on the international stage.
Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Alongside the oil economy as explained above, Aruara has an 'elite' military continuously injected with national warrior ethnics, highly trained and extremly flexible, a large drawback is it's relatively small size even with the prevelance of mandatory service. Generally, what the country lacks in size it makes up for in punch, both a strong trait and a drawback.
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: any way seen fit

OOC STUFF
How did you hear about Rostil?: found it
Other NS accounts: Gadshack, Toshikawa, Anidya, Ahkabnil
Roleplay sample:
YUN ARALAKI, capital of Coanchua -- Tensions have reached their boiling point here in Coanchua after months of despair among the population after the government had been unable to effectively treat the destruction caused by last month’s earthquakes and subsequent tsunamis. The population blames government corruption and the Marigold Accord for a lack of emergency infrastructure.

These tensions predate the natural disasters of last month however, with a sudden outcry since the dissolution of Soviet Rodina in 2014 to completely remove the Marigold Accord and establish a government by wholly independent convention. The rebel organization behind these efforts is the League of Free-Coanchua, an organized revolutionary effort comprised of all rebel groups in the country who have been continuously fighting against the Marigold Government since the late 1980s.

A call for independence has always been shouted aloud by most of the Koingia people, believing that they had been suppressed by the marigold accord, and see the Coanchuan government devised by the accord as corrupt. This is mostly true, as Coanchua was subject to internal puppetry of Soviet and anti-Soviet belligerents after the World War. The Coanchuan’s people strife for self-determination can be traced back to the very inkling beginnings of the country.

The Kaiop pirates/raiders developed as a nomadic multicultural people, deriving from Toshikawan, Himeyaman, native Aulukai, Maori and Vesian societies, over time syncretizing ethnically with most countries on the Krimeon and Kyne Seas. They were an outcast people, deemed too unholy for their status as living in crippling poverty, mainly in Toshikawa, and having poor or evil occupations(butcher, undertaker, etc), as well as practicing unorthodox spiritualism. These people, coming together to be known as Kaiop, would settle on Aulukai Isle in the Matilda Channel while retaining their sea-faring lifestyle, melting pot multiculturalism and assimilation with the Ipo natives, creating a distinct group known as ‘Koingia’ today, meaning ‘Cross-Seas’, as all the present people in Coanchua have a diverse ancestry due to the Kaiop pirates, from Seleucid, Maori, Ipo, Himyaman, to more than often an indiscernible mix, ‘Koingia’.

Coanchua for centuries would shift under different eras of imperial occupation, most notably Royal Seleucid who brought a brutal slave trading regime to the Andean Peninsula. Most of the people in Coanchua today have slave ancestry, and take pride in freeing themselves in a Kaiop-led rebellion in the late 19th century. The slaves traded from all over Mundus, usually ended up in Coanchua on Aulukai Isle, Royal Seleucid ruled the Channels with their slave empire.

This history is needed to understand how Coanchua feels about the past and present situation, they see themselves as proud and strong people of high stature, most notably ‘Kaiop’ servuce in the World War where they became known as elite troops, who could hold out against enemies, behind the lines, outnumbered and outgunned. Or the Kaiop pilots known as the Skyraiders, a book which released about them in 2007 arguably sparked independent patriotic endeavor. However, the Koingia people still feel oppressed and see their history as one of struggle to stand the test of time, therefore, the modern day League of Free-Coanchua sees these efforts against the established Marigold Accord as struggle for true freedom.

The Marigold Accord was formed after the World War, under brief occupation by anti-Ardian coalitions, most notably Achkaerin. The Accord dictated that the elected government of Coanchua must remain neutral in hostilities between the Soviets and remain compliant with the oversight of a representative to ensure the most congested and profitable shipping lane remained open and stable. The Coanchuan people were taken greatly into account during the Accord’s formation, however the support of Royal Seleucid and the Accord being devised by mostly monarchies made the people discontent. Over time tensions increased, as internal conflict drove more restrictions enforced by the Accord. Many interpret the Accord as a shifting imperial puppet, of both the Soviets and Capitalist powers.

The Accord has further been justified by the Marigold government by using Kaitaine as a chief threat, with evidence showing Mcpherson’s government has backed communist rebel groups in the country and the rise of Zircon and potentially spacefighters. The drug war is also as it’s height in Coanchua, merging with revolutionary efforts as the LFC has been confirmed to use drug money to fund their guerilla and sea piracy operations in the Channel. The Marigold Government has received billions in funding to combat this, much of which goes to weapons or black holes in the government budget. Rigged elections for the past 30 years some have claimed has also been perpetuated by the Marigold Accord.

Riots across Yun Aralaki have only gotten worse and the government is under constant siege, with LFC piracy and organized fighting has gotten more intense, and many government forces have abandoned their post. Coanchua is a powderkeg, the question is what the Accord Great Power will do this time to quell it.

On-field Journalism by Bill Simmons

I recently visited Nueva Ardia for one month to cover their story of reprise after the Second Andean Revolution against the ruling Toshindainese government. What I witnessed was a horrific wake, left behind by the toil of war and blatant genocide by the Eastern conquerors from the Ardian Peninsula. When Toshindai first invaded, the Army and Navy were entirely dismantled by the intense bombing campaign of the Toshindai airforce. The entire country was scorched by the deliberate bombing of cities. Free Mundus Network covered the start of the invasion live, where our reporter was never found and is presumed dead among the remaining rubble, where thousands are still missing among the aftermath.

A journalist can ask the locals, and be filled with the anger that they express. However, one may think these are only words of emotional distraught after a series of traumatizing unrest, digging deeper I find that there is truth in these words though. Exclusively, FMN has been allowed to discuss with Zavala Rodriguez, who will be representing Nueva Ardia in the CTO. "The CSU and indeed the CTO has been major contributors and enablers of the recent atrocity committed on out homeland." Zavala says. "Millions have died, and those indirectly responsible, who enabled it only send their condolences, or hardly a recognition of our struggles. It is okay, Nueva Ardia has always proved themsselves against the current."

I looked deeper into Zavala's words, though he assured us with facts that he had garnered, FMN delved deeper to truly uncover as to why Nueva Ardia saw the CSU and CTO as an enemy. Uncovering the wars, Toshindai was under heavy financial and economic stress, to support their Military industrial complex, the Shogunate secured an array of economic deals, those pertaining to the CSU and political manipulation within the CTO. While the world was busy deliberating over Borland, with political discourse evolving with Rokkenjima and Achkaerin against eachother the stage was set for Toshindai to wage war against Nueva Ardia. A war which causes are confused and still questioned today. Toshindai had adopted the Ducat and in many ways was directly financially aided by the CSU through Rokkenjima, specifically in the bailout which saved the Toshindai economy for the time being.

FMN looked deeply into this, however it was very well known, though not recognized by many government's around the world, that Toshindai was deliberately targeting civilians on the Andean Peninsula and carrying out a series of aggressive unwarranted attacks against the Andean People. Even when these reports were confirmed, even by Toshindai media itself, the funds kept coming through and the Toshindai military machine kept bombing, shooting and starving out people on the Peninsula. During the alleged genocide of the Andean People, the CSU happily bailed out the failing Toshi economy. This only continued the slaughter and paid for the extensive cultural assimilation programs the Taira Shogunate put in place.

Tech Sgt. Yoneda Mitsuo spent his young years in the military, at 22 he was deployed to the Peninsula as one of the first marines on the beaches. "It was underwhelming, and the others would agree." Yoneda said. "There was glory in it because it was tame, we passed destroyed military complexes, bases, we saw the might of out airforce. Every once and a while a few pop shots would pass over us. It was horrifying to see the many displaced people, that's when many started to question it in the back of their head. But then we witnessed bombings, and more bombings, and more. Anyone was a Guerilla spy, a co-conspirator against the government and therefore needed to be killed." Yoneda took a break from the interview, not wanting to continue. "I killed many, most I have questioned. It was chaotic, dishonorable but most of all deliberate, and I will have to live with that." a few days later after we interviewed Mr. Mitsuo he committed suicide.

In this, the CSU bailout funded the direct killing and deliberate starvation of 30 million Andeans. The systematic torture, killing and re-education of a people well above the magnitude of the USR went entirely unnoticed because of Toshindai's deep rooted associations with the right people. More so, Toshindai has a seat on the Security Council and the CTO gave the 'okay' for the invasion. Even after the brutal reports, it went ignored to what seems like political manipulation and vote buying on the part of Toshindai. In this, we have unveiled the corruption and/or incompetence of the worldly 'good guy' administration. So in short, the reality: the CSU funded the Andean Genocide while the CTO enabled it, all did this knowingly.

Not since the USR has something like this happened, but this even surpasses the wield of the USR, making it child's play.

CSU money funded the death of 30 Million on the Andean Peninsula, allowed the funding of a space mission which killed 40 to 50 million in UNP, by the hand's of the Toshindai Shogunate. And that same enabled Toshindai system, led to the death of 25 million of it's own people.

Will Toshindai answer for these crimes? Most likely not, they have the bureaucracy on their side.

BASIC DETAILS
IC name: The Quásate of the Aarari
Population: 50 million
Language(s): Aarari (official) (constructed with Arabic, Asian, Welsh and Elven influences), Eithra (magic-tongue)
Main culture/ethnic group: Culturally, originally constructed but strong Islamic/Arab, South Asian & Persian influences
Capital: Caenquásari (King's Haven)
Government type: Quásate - invented form of Government based on balance between three; temporal, arcane and divine.
Leader(s): Quás [King] Idani II (Temporal), The Dáir [Sage] (mystical) & The Láir [Seer] (divine)
Nation description (at least a paragraph, please):

Aarari [English: Aaronia] is referred to by loyalists as a land of beauty and balance. The faith of the people, known as Ehirism [Eh-eer-ism], dominates the landscape and society. A careful balance is strictly enforced between temporal power, invested in a Quás [King] whose authority is absolute, mystical power [magic] invested in a Dáir [Sage] who leads a council of magic-users, and the Láir [Seer] who is by nature ethereal and eternal.

Aarari society values beauty and balance and its landscape matches this. Around a third of their lands are desert or mountain regions, conquered ages past by a strategical placed capital port Caenquásari. The coast features, vaguely equating to a third of Aarari territory, are proclaimed to be perfect examples of Aarari virtue as the land (temporal) meets the ocean (mystical) and the sky (divine). Maritime culture is prominent and the Swan is considered to be sacred not only for its beauty but for it nests on land, swims on water and flies in the sky. The deep forest regions of the North make up the final third and are, in parts, dangerous for most people to travel casually.

Magic is often intertwined with science and the state prefers the people to respect discovery as something mystical. The average citizen, therefore, is unlikely to be scientifically literate. Where the arcane is most common is in transport, which is primarily by ship up and down the coast or by Airships, powered by a complex mix of science and magic. The deserts are traversed often in the modern times by combustion engines, though their use is limited and viewed as inferior.

The population are mostly human, though some elven immigrants have retained an influential part of society. Dwarves are rarer and gnomes rarer still but both exist and are broadly accepted.

A regional anomaly, Aarari is considered to be influential by its neighbours but easily misunderstood. Their claims to be semi-divine, their conflation of magic and science and their insistence the Quás is the only human authority can make relations difficult. However, once an ally has found a way around these core eccentricities, they will find in the Aarari people, worthwhile friends, capable of trade, diplomacy and cultural exchanges.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What role do you envision yourself playing in international relations?:
The eccentric commentator. Aarari is about balance and is therefore likely to play mediator or neutral party than engage directly in disputes or conflicts. More likely, the nation would be a trade partner.

Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures:
Aarari's primary strengths in real-terms are its economic trade links across oceans, its seafaring naval force and its open use of Airships for both military and economic necessities. In terms of how Aarari see their own strengths, they consider their Government to be strong and noble and an example to others. The only direct effect this would have on regional power structures would be the introduction of a fairly self-admiring commentator state. Good for trade, unlikely to be a military threat beyond naval warfare.

If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?:
I have already reduced how Aarari functions from my metaverse version so it "fits" easier into Rostil. I would need to know exactly which strengths the community felt were overpowered but always happy to discuss and revise. It's part of the creative process.

.:. Official Notice from the Quásari Government .:.
What is substantial is understood.

His Highness the Quás hereby issues Proclamation 37-D under the rights and responsibilities outlined by law by the Chamber of Nobles in their Statutory Document Asal hirem Neiheirl [Charter on outlier colonies].

Asam hirem Neiheirl defines the role of the Quás in the creation of new colonies outside of the realms and boundaries of the formal Quásate. As such, the Quás is able when he is so inclined to declare a previously established colony obsolete. He does so this day with regards to the Colony of Cathuliar. The now-former colony of Cathuliar has, under the name Free Port of Cathuliar, ascended into the Eastern Prefecture as a formal part of the Quásate.

In all things, find the balance.

And so it was done. Tior read the notice back to himself several times so check if he had missed something. He hadn't. The afternoon's hot sun beat down on the wooden desk in front of him and he moved back into the shade to stay cool. The windows were open and a salty sea breeze at least gave him some break from the heat. Rather a seafaring heat than a desert one, he reflected as he put the notice down and landed himself upon the padded armchair behind him. He scratched his short stubble thoughtfully and recalled his last visit to Cathuliar last winter. Larger than his own colony, Cathuliar was a bustling trade hub for the island chain they shared.

Now his neighbouring colony was no more. The boundaries of the formal Quásate had expanded. This left only Tior's own colony of Seluc in the immediate area outside of the state's full control. Not, he reflected, that the colony wasn't already effectively under the Quásate already. However the informality at least gave Tior some comfort. He was still a free Governor. For now. The aging statesman had consulted the Irah, the Speaker who represented the divine to men. The guidance had been anything but clear. Tior suspected that the Irah did not want to make enemies of local politicians and so was avoiding defining much beyond the advice that Tior should continue to seek guidance from his people.

He had considered reminding the Irah that his people were largely settlers seeking to move beyond the boundaries of the Quásate but had thought better of it. He didn't much want to make an enemy of an Irah, either. The mystics had not been much help, either. His formal courtly Master, Thrur Malaen, had offered him herbs to induce visions and prophecies. Tior had politely declined. He wanted clarity and advice, not vague ramblings or drug-created hallucinations.

He had settled for a long waiting game. Cathuliar, he considered, was more strategically important to the Quásate than little farming Seluc. A few villages of rice farms and fisheries were not going to be high on the priority list. As he looked out of the window of his Governor's House, a modest affair for a modest colony, over the town he breathed in deeply. For now at least, the free folk of Seluc were content to fish and farm and laze in the eastern ocean's hot sun. Tior merely hoped that they would be left to do so for a bit longer.

BASIC DETAILS
IC name: The Republics & Principalities of Adiya
Population: 23,005,000
Language(s): Adiyan
Main culture/ethnic group: Ehhhhh, I mean they speak Arabic, but besides that it’s a mixture of ideas that I think would be cool or would make sense for a people who live in the desert with a history of contact with the eldritch.
Capital: D’hoba/Al-K’halavid/Ta’asir.
Government type: Oligarchic/Republican Theocratic-Plutocratic Clusterfuck.
Leader(s): Toss-up between the Patriarch of D’hoba, Caliph of Al-K'halavid, and the Princes of Ta'asir.
Nation description (at least a paragraph, please): A mish-mash of city-states, sometimes in conflict with each other, united by a shared language and history of sealing spooky stuff and getting conquered by the mere mortals because we overspecialize in the spook-slaying department. The economy is fairly diversified, although the secondary and primary industrial bases are a bit sub-par not due to tetriary industries dominance but because Adiya has a critical lack of natural resources and has developed few overseas trade relations to fuel local industry as well as poor development of infrastructure within the eastern regions denying Adiya it’s full economic potential. Geographically, the country is mostly desert dotted with oasises with some rough hills and small mountains found west near the coastline. The culture is religious to cope with the existence of greater and darker things under the sands and diverse due to the remnant influence of several empires that have come and gone over the centuries.
Map claim: That reddish blob named “Adiya.” I call dibs. :p

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What role do you envision yourself playing in international relations?: Minor power to satellite state? Adiya’s location bordering a superpower and some coastlines in the Sea of Ceres is of some strategic importance by location alone, but Adiya’s unstable politics and relative underdevelopment in the eastern regions leaves much to be desired compared to most.
Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Not much? I’m certain Ruthenia and Sarmatia can deal with Adiya if they ever get rowdy.
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: ................ Honestly, ball is in your court on that. I’m open to suggestion.

OOC STUFF
How did you hear about Rostil?: Long ago, in an ancient land (Quote Thread Mk II) I, Gorgashia, unleashed an unspeakable evil (Socialism) upon the land. Until a foolish Estainian knight wielding a magic longsword (because fuck your folded iron) stepped forth to oppose me.

But! Before the final blow was struck, he mentioned something about ‘Rostil’ and I was curious. I tore open a magic portal and entered their esper chat room. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Other NS accounts: I’m just bringing Adiya. Want to keep it simple with one very small nation. Oh, and full disclosure I’m doing an FT thing with a puppet named Aspirat.
