Hmm, let me see. If Ted gets kitted out somewhere in the inner Imperium, it will probably late January when he arrives there by train. Another week or so to Norslund on the southern shores of the Baltic, and fitted armor probably by the start of March. In the north it will dry out at the end of April, though defensive assignments will begin before then, and actual campaigning against interloping tribes would begin shortly thereafter.

Honestly, both seem broadly similar. Sicily isn't really civilized, so that will limit your options, as are parts of Greece, though you may appreciate the greater flexibility landing somewhere away from civilization will offer you.
