The Songhua government took new steps today to curb drug routes between Songguo and the troubled nation of Marirana, where the narcotics trade has helped fund a bloody civil war. The State Council has, effective at midnight, revoked the typical personal allowance of drugs that Songhua tourists are permitted to bring to Meidao. While the two countries have long had an agreement that allows Songhua citizens visiting the island nation to bring in small amounts of substances which Meidao considers illegal or highly controlled, international observers have long been concerned that this helps lubricate the illicit drug trade. With violence in Marirana leaving the international community appalled and Asteria seemingly unable to quench the conflict, many have made calls for the Songhua government to do more to control the flow of drugs both into and out of the country. The Interior Security Service and airport police will now be screening all Meidao-bound passengers for drugs, and suspected smugglers may be subject to confiscation, fines, jail time, or labor sentences.

The surprise move comes after a summer that saw shaky numbers for many airlines, travel agencies, and cruise lines, with recent political and market turmoil rattling the confidence of Songhua tourists and scaring many off from going on summer holiday in the Eastern Hemisphere. The new drug restrictions are expected to particularly depress the number of students holidaying in Meidao this summer, and many hotels and airlines are bracing for another difficult year ahead, as the Foreign Ministry made clear that even more measures may soon be taken to try and put pressure on drug-trafficking networks going both in and out of the Asterias and especially on those tied to the Mariranan conflict.

The Interior Security Service also announced it would be taking steps to seriously curtail narcotics imports from the Asterias, as Songguo remains one of the world's largest drug importers and many suspect that Mariranan cartels and rebel groups are supplying their drugs to the Songhua market. This manifested in the early hours today as Interior Security vans and helicopters raided the Port of Beigang, seizing two ships identified as bringing in improperly permitted and sourced marijuana, and with further arrests in several airports as "significant" quantities of high-grade opium and a number of suspected smugglers were seized, according to an Interior Security Service spokesperson. The Interior Security Ministry's Financial Bureau also announced it would be coordinating with the Foreign Ministry and the Sensitive Affairs Bureau to target suspected money launderers and help keep Mariranan "blood money" out of the Songhua banking system.

AFTER MUCH DELIBERATION, the decision to close the Khataghi border with all its neighboring countries has been approved by the National Zovlol. This comes at the behest of the Khan, who has been requesting that the National Zovlol, the Council of Advisors that has helped the Khan rule Khatagh since the beginning of the first recorded Khataghi state in around 300 BCE. Khan Toyaa is known for his shaky relationship with the Zovlol, with Khan Toyaa being the first Khan in over 150 years to bruteforce actions past the Zovlol. The first one, occurring in 2003, was over a trade deal relating to nations outside of the Co-Prosperity Sphere.

On a more related note, the move comes after the Interior Security Ministry of Songguo, the Khanate's ally in the Co-Prosperity Sphere, began to shut down drug smuggling routes between Songguo and Marirana. Reportedly angered by that Songguo would do this instead of attempting to stop drug smuggling into Khatagh, a long-time ally and neighbor, the Khan ordered the Military, Police, Interior Security Ministry, and Border Patrol Division to lock down the Khataghi border with all neighboring nations until further notice to take care of the drug problem. "Nothing allowed in, nothing allowed out, until we start solving this, or solve it ourselves." This is what Khan Toyaa is reported to have said, say some aides.

This can create a massive issue, as much akin to the central Asterian/Senouillacan "Flyover Regions," Khatagh is incredibly important for continental shipping. Every day, Khatagh takes in millions of tons of products from the Coian League, Co-Prosperity Sphere, the Southern Coian Defense Initiative, and other groups and ships them around Coius, and to other parts around the world. This has allowed Khatagh to, despite a relatively "poor" status in the world, get surprisingly advanced transportation (road, railroad, and airport) systems across the nation. Imports are halted along with exports, and this is expected to cause a myriad of problems in the coming time.

The drug epidemic in Khatagh has been long and hard, with problems first arriving in the 1980s. Most of the drugs involved at first were Cocaine and Marijuana, mainly produced and grown in Songguo. Although slow to start at first, with the legalization of Marijuana in 2000, the black market turned to other drugs, such as heroin, meth, synthetics, and fenatyl. For the past 17 years, the drug epidemic has grown to incredible proportions. About 44% of teenagers surveyed have reported doing some sort of drug at some point in the past year, and the number only increases by age until around 40.

Drug addiction is rampant, with calls to police regarding drug deals gone wrong, child abuse, and squatting by addicts having risen rapidly in the past decade.

Many police departments complain of being understaffed and unfunded, and unprepared to deal with drug gangs and cartels that have appeared in the border regions of the nation to compete with foreign producers.

The Military has been mobilized along with the Civil Protection, Interior Security Ministry of Khatagh, and the Border Patrol. Civil Protection and Regonal Police are currently being moved to slums and ghettos in cities and troops/NPs have been dispatched to regions where drug production is high. They are expected to arrive in the early morning of the 10th of September.

As of now, no foreign nations have commented on the border closing.

Songhua officials have remained surprisingly quiet in the wake of a startling move by the Khataghi Khan to seal his country's borders in an effort to combat Khatagh's ongoing drug epidemic. While a source who preferred to remain anonymous within the Foreign Ministry called the move a "slap in the face" to the Co-Prosperity Sphere, the economic and security organization that ties Songguo and a number of neighboring countries together, nearly all officials have declined to publicly comment or pass judgement, save for a brief statement by the Interior Security Minister, Ying Meilin.

"Songguo respects our longtime ally and partner's sovereignty and wishes to provide whatever aid possible in times of difficulty, and the State Council has full confidence His Royal Highness the Khan will uphold Khatagh's treaty obligations to the Co-Prosperity Sphere and recall our long efforts to aid Khatagh in battling the scourge of drug addiction," the Interior Security Minister said briefly, when questioned on her way out of a late-night State Council meeting. She refused to give further comments on the matter. The motorcade of the Khataghi ambassador was also seen departing the meeting, indicating he may have been summoned to discuss the emerging crisis.

Other questions have been variously redirected to the Foreign Ministry and the Interior Security Service, but officials seem to have clammed up, with only a few anonymous sources within the government willing to share even rumors and hearsay about any sort of response. One source within the Foreign Ministry with knowledge of the government's planning called the Khataghi move a "slap in the face" to both the Co-Prosperity Sphere and the Songhua government, claiming that Tianjing had been given no warning of Khotgalan's plans and that even the Co-Prosperity Sphere's High Commission was caught off guard by the move. Other diplomats within the Foreign Ministry and in the service of other countries commented the move was "surprising" and seemed "stupendously ill-conceived". Meanwhile, the Interior Security Service has reportedly been angered by implications that Songhua officials have failed to adequately protect Khataghi citizens from Songguo-sourced drugs, with many blaming ineptitude, corruption, and disinterest among Khataghi security forces and lack of promised reforms by the government for the country's dismal failures in its crusade against narcotics.

Given that Khatagh is a critical hub for land and air shipment of cargo across Coius and boasts vast mineral wealth (which Songhua mining companies have eagerly exploited for decades), the sealing of its borders is likely to cause enormous economic disruption, especially within the Co-Prosperity Sphere and in the Coian League to the north, where the country has close economic ties with Fars. Though the market is closed for the day, futures trading has thus far indicated tomorrow may be a brutal day for the Long Siu Index and the Songhua stock market, with the mining industry expected to be particularly hard-hit as huge quantities of minerals will be trapped in Khatagh. Khataghi firms in every sector, however, face even greater losses described by one long-time Baishadao-based financial expert simply as "annihilation." One senior Trade Ministry official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, underlined the gravity of the situation when they said it "seems unlikely the Khataghi economy will last the month" if the border seal remains in place.

As Tianjing maintains a tight veil of secrecy and prepares its next move, experienced Songguo hands and longtime observers of Khotgalan and Khan Toyaa's regime have widely expressed uncertainty, surprise, and concern, as the crisis on the steppe suddenly bursts into the fore of the Coian Great Game.

Referendum Results Are In: Reform Bill Off The Table

Eldburg, Vredlandia - The Central Election Office has called the referendum about the reform bill in favour of the nay-sayers. Seneschal Kloth has announced his intent to resign after the Holy Father selection; Minister Grunwald and his followers celebrate the results. First reactions from the markets are drastically negative.

It was close, but ultimately the reformists around Seneschal Kloth lost the referendum with 48.5%. Seneschal Kloth was not available for comment today, but some of his closest allies have described their sadness about the loss. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Johann Faltersburg, called his Ministerial colleague for Defence a "radical demagogue without dignity", saying that it was Grunwald who would have led more than half of the Vredlandian electorate to believe that they can do without the reforms.
Minister of Coin Arthur Treuwegen called the results "positively close, but disappointingly clear either way". "Now it is time for Minister Grunwald to lay out his vision for a reform", Treuwegen added. Nevertheless: "Until he officially resigns, Raivo Kloth is and remains our Seneschal."

Grunwald and his allies, expectedly, celebrated the results. "This is a great showing of democratic self-confidence and an act of sovereignty", the Minister proudly announced. Promising to lay a bill on the table within the next three months, he also reinforced his run for the office of Seneschal. Read his full, first statement below.

"If the Central Election Office doesn't correct their first official result, we can now say with certainty that the reform bill was defeated. This is a great showing of democratic self-confidence and an act of sovereignty of the Vredlandian citizenry. Today we showed that we do not cave in to our Euclean neighbours' wishes, nor that we sit idly as our government overstretches its mission! This is a victory not just for me and other critics of the reform bill, but a victory for all the ordinary and hard-working citizens of Vredlandia. Your local baker, nurses, the elderly. Paving the way for a future we look forward to, this result will naturally determine the course of the next government.

Seneschal Kloth can no longer lead us properly, and I welcome his decision to resign after the selection of a new Holy Father. That also means, however, that we will need a new Seneschal. To me and so many citizens around Vredlandia it is very clear that this new Seneschal must be someone who fully stands behind the Vredlandia which won the referendum today. Someone who can navigate us through rough waters. I believe that I would be fitting for the office, and I will ask the next Holy Father to nominate me when the National Assembly reconvenes to decide on a new Seneschal. To reinforce my intention, I will lay a new reform bill on the table within three months. Until then, I will continue to serve my country faithfully - as everyone should - and remain grateful and relieved at today's outcome of the referendum. God bless Vredlandia!"

The markets reacted rather heavily to the delay of reforms and the new uncertainty that comes with Kloth's resignation. The Vredenmark's standing has decreased dramatically, almost historically. Vredlandia's credit rating is rumoured to be downgraded maybe. If Minister Grunwald becomes the next Seneschal, he should pray the situation has calmed down by then, or that he will have some skilled staffers at his side, because few believe he can handle this by himself.

More will likely be learned tomorrow when Seneschal Kloth addresses the National Assembly. He is set to announce his resignation.

The government took a bold and unusual step to promote regional peace today, extending an olive branch to the recalcitrant Teien regime and offering to negotiate to avoid a budding naval arms race ignited by the Western Entity's new naval construction programs, which recently culminated in the commissioning of their new carrier Shinano. The crisis has been deepened of late by Nematsujin objections to routine naval exercises and missile tests by the Songhua military and their irresponsible and reckless responses, including deploying naval and air forces into the Red and North Seas and firing missiles near Songhua waters. However, despite these efforts by Teien to worsen relations further and provoke a defensive response by the Songhua people, Tianjing has apparently remained patient, with the First Minister today extending the offer of negotiations.

The negotiations, if the Teien government agrees to participate, would represent some of the most significant and substantive diplomatic contact between the two countries since the end of the Kaizhou Liberation War, which had to be mediated by the CN due to the bitterness and unwillingness of Nematsu's government to surrender. The First Minister announced that he hoped the two countries could, despite a long and stormy history, find a lasting arrangement to ensure a stable balance of power and avoid a destructive arms race in Southern Coius that could drag in other powers as well. Some naval officers have signed a letter of protest urging the First Minister to reconsider committing to negotiations that could limit naval construction and that they fear might allow Nematsu to gain an advantage over Songguo, but the State Council has not commented on this besides to say that only an agreement "acceptable to the Songhua people" will be finalized.

The Emperor also offered an added aegis of legitimacy by endorsing the proposed negotiations, saying they represented an "admirable step" by his government to promote regional peace and stability and reconcile two bitterly opposed empires.

TEIEN- The National Diet, in response to an incredibly unexpected proposition by the Tianjing government, has accepted proposals for talks regarding naval disarmament.

Relationships across the Bay of Basurhat have traditionally been rocky. Since the centuries-old wars between the two nations, and up to and including the humiliating defeat in the Kaizhou War, the governments of Nematsu and Songgou have traditionally aligned against each other. It was no small surprise when Songgou, after an intense naval showdown in the nearby seas, offered bilateral talks regarding the de-escalation of tensions- more specifically in naval armament, a goal which Nematsu, under the 6-20 plan of 11 years ago, has been rapidly pursuing. Among other developments including massive refitting of existing ships to include sophisticated defensive and offensive armaments, the plan allowed for the construction of 3 fleet carriers, dubbed the Shinano-class, after a one-off fleet carrier built for the Great War. While Shinano has already been commissioned, another carrier, Yubetsu, is nearing completion; and a third, Anano, had its keel laid earlier this year.

The Songhuan government's offers at talks, according to Shikken Terada Yasunari, is a "sign for hope."

"We cannot be brash. War is not the interest of Nematsu, and we should be glad that Songgou has offered a chance for de-escalation. It is my hope that these talks will be beneficial for both nations, and for the region as a whole."

Naval officials have launched a firm protest against the measure, as well as a public component supporting them- including the commander of the 3rd Carrier Group, who has claimed in a public statement that "Any agreement with the Song is bound to lead to our doom." Protests-mainly peaceful in nature, however- have occurred, mainly in cities with large naval districts such as Yamato, Asabiro and Teien.

Asked in a question and answer session by a journalist about how far Nematsu was willing to give, Terada did not give a clear answer. "We are willing to go as far as it is advantageous to do so."

Empress Ayuka, currently vacationing in the Imperial Palace on the Akusa Islands, has offered her personal support for the move, according to a spokesperson for the Imperial Family, and has expressed her interests to attend said talks.

Further details on the talks themselves are expected to be revealed at a later date as Teien and Tianjing iron out the details.

With less than a month to go, polls predict a close race as public figures take stances

VousGouv polling averages suggest that the referendum will be a close one

Despite a strong start, the Monarchist position has lost a great deal of ground to the Republicans while undecided voters have remained largely a consistent bloc. This is worrying for Vive la Monarchie, though its campaign director Émeric Regnard disputes this telling us thatt "our campaign so far has been hitting all the right notes, with internal polling correlating with that, yet external polling suggests otherwise." Yet others are not so confident, pointing to the great accuracy with which polling predicted the outcomes of the 2010 and 2015 elections.

This surge in polling is a relief for the Republican campaign, who have faced an uphill battle in gaining momentum and public figures to their side. Only one party leader, Nadia Deslys, has declared for the Republican side, with the rest personally siding with the Monarchist position. Support has come in from Gaullica, with some minor political figures voicing their opinions on the institution of monarchies and making allusions to the Satucin Referendum, while polling in Gaullica reveals their populace to prefer Satucin as a republic than as a monarchy. This is a boon not only in international opinion, but may make a practical difference as Gaullican citizens, as well as Sanslumieran, Senouillacan and several other Gaullophonie countries may vote in Satucin referendums and elections if in the country at the time.

Other support for the Republican cause has come from minor figures within the two major parties, with Océane Azaïs leading a small cadre of 23 rebels in the National Unity Party. She has maintained that she is not anti-monarchist, and has said that she will happily work under a monarchy the same as a republic, but does simply not personally believe that reinstating the monarchy is needed while the republic is working as intended. This is a similar position to the Freedom and Liberty Party rebels, also in the minority, who point to Glytter as a successful constitutional monarchy, but question the need to change the political system in a time of non-crisis.

Not all of the Republican figures have been so moderate in their support, or criticism of the other side. Firebrand Aubin Galopin has decried Democractic Alliance party leader Gérard Genest as a fraud and traitor to their cause, and called for him to step down, after he declared himself for the Monarchist position and the party neutral and free to choose, despite most AD delegates expressing support for the republic. Genest promptly hit back, saying that "my support for the monarchy is my own, and I cannot stand against my conscience and principles, and so in the spirit of democracy I allowed all delegates and figures in the party to support whichever position they wanted, or to abstain. The only traitor to democracy I see is Monsieur Galopin."

A boost for the Monarchists came when the Prime Minister, relatively silent and absent on the issue, suddenly announced he sided with the Monarchists and would soon hit the campaign trail. This did relatively little in helping stop the drop in poll support for the Monarchists, but may be vital in securing the UN voter base, and Videteur community. Since then the PM has actively toured the country, visiting all states except for Malmonde, and his three trips to Bonhavre certainly suggest that the Monarchists are intent on securing the Videteurs, who historically have been a Republican community.

Dr. Jacques d'Amédor recently returned to Satucin, and sympathises with the Monarchists

Another boon for the Monarchist position is Dr. Jacques d'Amédor, a member of the d'Amédor family and a scholar and poet who specialises in Old Ghaillish, and has been the Professor of Tenic Studies at University of Aneville since August 2017. He has been a hit on social media in Satucin, Gaullica and Glytter, due to his Youtube channel focused mainly upon the Tenic languages and mythology. He was once considered as a possible candidate for the Monarchists to rally behind, before he declined and directed support towards his uncle.

With a month to go the race is anything but certain, especially as both campaigns ramp up their efforts to secure voters, public figures, and international support and ensure victory.

The Confederate Council voted this morning during an emergency session authorizing a surge of new troops into Southern Asafiyah. The session was called after the Republican Guard was put on high alert after new military intelligence reported renewed insurgent activity near the Kayyāt Oil Fields in the Natush Lowlands. General Khaled El-Amin, Chief of the Defence Staff, stated that the oil fields were "vulnerable to attack" and their security is a "top priority for forces stationed in the region."

The authorization was confirmed in an 10 to 9 vote and officially put into effect a little less than an hour afterwards. President Karimi voted against authorizing more troops, a continuation of his general policy of demilitarization. He argued that a troop surge would only agitate the "fragile balance of the region" and continue to add legitimacy to the cause of the insurgents. A proponent of negotiation and reconciliation, the president has been a leading figure in attempting to end the Al-Mukhtar insurgency through diplomacy. "These are individuals who feel neglected by their government and cut off from the rest of the world. The civil war end 61 years ago. It is time for us to come together and heal the wounds of the past. Only then can Asafiyah look forward towards the future."

His pacifistic position has been taken as weakness by some within the military's chain of command, many of whom are veterans of the civil war and are all too familiar with Al-Mukhtar. Al-Mukhtar, "The Chosen" in Badawiyan, rose to power shortly after the beginning of the civil war, consisting of radical Salamic extremists and nationalists who wanted to establish a Pan-Salamic state out of the ashes of the Quşayr Empire. While they never were able to achieve this goal, they took significant amounts of territory in the northern and southern regions of the country, seizing oil fields and refineries and numerous arms factories. As the civil war began to die down and the Popular Front proclaimed victory, Al-Mukhtar declared the establishment of a new Salamic republic. This began the Seven Months War, also called the Northern Insurgency. After seven short months Al-Mukhtar was driven into the mountainous regions of the country and transitioned into a terrorist organization.

Despite their defeat they continued on from the shadows, locked in a never ending struggle with the Asafiyahan military. After a series of campaigns attempting to take valuable territory and strategic resources, Al-Mukhtar has been all but driven underground in recent years after aggressive military operations conducted by the Republican Guard. In recent years they have shown increased activity which is believed to be a result of President Karimi's demilitarization efforts. Military commanders are more then reluctant to go back to the bloodiest days of the insurgency but are worried about attempts by politicians to affect their ability to respond to insurgent activity. Field Marshal Elhanan Rothenburg, commander of the forces in Natush, told the press "Al-Mukhtar still poses a threat to the confederacy and until they are completely destroyed will always seek to destroy our way of life, the country that we have built together."

It is expected that two more infantry divisions, the 2nd Honour Guard and the 1st Motorized Guard, will be deployed near the town of Ḩujrah, seven miles from the Z̧ulayyim Petroluem Refinery, the largest facility in the nation and Badawiya. Joining them will be the 1st Ghadab Armour Division, tasked with patrolling the desert lowlands surrounding Ḩujrah and the refinery. The army has also assigned three more divisions in reserve to act as reinforcements and support should the need arise. It is expected that the renewed military presence will thwart any attempts to do damage to a crucial piece of the Asafiyahan oil industry.

IMMIGRATION BILL PROPOSED ON HOUSE FLOOR
The Federation's House of Representatives has proposed a bill to deal with the influx of immigrants - primarily illegal aliens - who have been entering the Federation as a result of the Mariranan Insurgency.

House Conservatists were hard at work yesterday, as they laid out the basis for a new immigration Bill that they hope to pass up to the Senate within the next few months. Led primarily by Brian Allenos of Freeman, who is working closely with President Avery, the "Secure Borders & Paced Immigration Bill" is focused on directly stopping illegal aliens from entering the country, while offering to accept more asylum requests. The Bill, which is still in it's very earliest stages, consists of a $54 million budget increase for the National Immigration Service' Border Control wing, along with giving permission to Federal Military Reserves to assist Border Control Agents in apprehending those who are attempting to enter the country illegally. Brian Allenos spoke to reporters today during a press conference, laying out some of the Bill's most important pieces.

"There's no doubt that the sudden influx in people trying to enter the Federation is related to the conflict currently raging in Marirana," Allenos would say, "but we need to be vigilant when it comes to accepting immigrants from these areas, and ruthlessly efficient in stopping those who try to come illegally." He would add, "this legislation, by no means, is an attempt to cut off immigration into our country. Immigration is a key part of the Federation and it's economy, and we do not wish to turn away those who are willing to work so hard to achieve the Asterian Dream. However, now more than ever, we must be cautious and ensure that we aren't letting the drug, weapons,and people smugglers - God forbid terrorists who seek to do us harm on our own soil."

"This Bill will tackle illegal immigration - both on the Asterian-Mariranan Border directly, but also along the Roessan border, where Mariranan aliens have been taking advantage of Roeselle's relatively loose immigration system to sneak into the Federation. Rest assured, those who attempt to, or have, entered the Federation illegally will be sent home. Those who enter with the intention of hurting the Asterian People will be sent behind bars." Liberal Democrats in the House have showed relative support for the bill, with House minority leader Ryleigh Sykes speaking on the proposed Bill:

"The Bill is a good gesture that I'm sure most of my colleges in the House can appreciate" she would tell ANN reporters, "but a number of us feel that it may end up producing quite a bit of collateral damage - preventing the bad people from coming in, but also a lot of the good people."

Brian Fagan, Leader of the House's Libertarians - it's second largest party - would also comment. "From what Representative Allenos presented us, the Bill seems like a pretty sound piece of legislation. Our primary concern would be to make sure we aren't targeting, and hurting, the wrong people, but we're more than willing to work with LibDems and Conservatives to make the proposal better for everyone - especially people who are coming to this country for the opportunities it provides, and to escape the brutal conflict back home."

House Conservatists stated that they're willing to work with Liberal Democrats and Libertarians to make the Bill more sound, but want the "heart" of the bill to remain the same: picking up border security, and stopping illegal aliens from entering the country. President Avery promised to keep in contact with House Lawmakers and help in the process, and showed a good deal of support for the legislation.

"We are a nation of immigrants" Avery would say today during a press conference, "but we are also a nation of laws. Asteria is open to anyone seeking the opportunities it can provide, but entering illegally - especially to spread drugs and crime - is a spit in the face of every legal immigrant, and every Asterian. It is vital to this nation's security that we protect our borders, even if we must be relentless in doing it."

Seneschal Kloth Says He Will Resign, But New Revelations Raise Suspicions

Eldburg, Vredlandia - Seneschal Kloth's address to the National Assembly was the most watched TV event of this year's second half so far. So uncertain are the times that everyone desires a word from him about matters of state, and of the future. And so Seneschal Kloth went on stage Monday to tell the nation about his intentions. Yet today new revelations have been made that seem to contradict his intentions. What is Raivo Kloth really doing? And what would it mean if he were to rethink?

Seneschal Raivo Kloth addressed the National Assembly on Monday to inform them of the official referendum results and his intention to resign. Millions of Vredlandians followed his remarks live on television or listened to them on the radio. It was more likely than not this audience he was trying to reassure -- first by reinforcing his intentions of resigning: "My whole career, indeed my life, must be seen in the light of trying to reform. Already in my first years of school I was standing on stage with teachers and older students and city councillors and argued for reform of the school system. When I was an adult, I ran to become Mayor of Vredensund, and I reformed the city. And when I ran for National Assembly, I did so in order to reform this beautiful nation, and the National Assembly and our Holy Father rewarded me with the office of Seneschal. But this last reform was reaching for the stars, and Vredlandia has voted not to build me a rocket for it."

"I will continue to fight for my beliefs relentlessly, but I have made my intentions clear before the referendum, and now I must let words follow action. Any leader who wants to do more than sitting out the term needs to either have the citizenry or the Assembly behind them. I have the support of neither", Kloth admitted. "Therefore it is only reasonable that I have come to this Chamber to inform you of my resignation -- due with the selection of a new Holy Father."

In his address, Kloth revisited the issues Vredlandia needs to face: The need too restrain their budgets, a reform of the social system and labour market, better education, strategies for a digital world, innovation, civil strife. Interestingly, he didn't name security or anything related.

"Every citizen who voted against my reform bill has my full understanding and sympathy", the Seneschal pledged compassionately, "and I will give all my heart and effort to serve them well in my last days in this office and beyond". Kloth also launched a heavy attack on his fellow Assemblymembers, though, saying their term didn't make history for their achievements, but for the disgrace they brought over the National Assembly and its long tradition with their display of cowardice and treason. "Political opportunity can and should be seized legitimately in many cases. Advancing your own career is no such legitimate case. The shame of this term will always be yours, honorable colleagues", the Seneschal concluded.

The last offensive of a morally steadfast leader? New revelations could shed a new light on his words, and it's casting doubt over everything he said on Monday. Journalists from Vredlandia's DAILY CHRONICLES have acquired information that Seneschal Kloth's office hired a campaign manager for a duration of four months. Since then, it was uncovered that the manager is supposedly André Derieu, who has already organized Kloth's last reelection campaign for the mayor's office, and is well known for his work internationally.

Most notable is the duration of four months. If Seneschal Kloth resigns on the 22nd of October, when a new Holy Father should be selected, it would take another month or two for an election in his old constituency to occur. Does this mean Kloth could be running again, after resigning his office and seat? So far, legendary entertainer Oliver Harlo has announced a candidacy for the seat, as have some new faces and even a former Assemblymember. Kloth might have a hard time, but his citizens and even more so his constituents have rediscovered their love for him, ironic as the timing of it may be. If he were to run again, he would most definitely have a good chance. But does he really want to do all this again? And what would he run on?

For one, the Seneschal made clear that he is still interested in reform, and willing to invest time and energy into it. Even his enemies wouldn't doubt this sincerity of those words. And secondly, with his remarks it seems he wants to regain his image as an anti-establishment reformist, an image he was often elected for previously. And what then? Another run for Seneschal? Unlikely. But he could very well force the hand of the new Seneschal in many issues in the National Assembly.

Or is it all a ruse, with the media falling for it? What would his real game be then? Or what if it doesn't mean anything at all? Inevitably, Vredlandia will learn the truth. Seneschal Kloth can wait that time out.

O'REILLY GOVERNMENT UNVEILS IMMIGRATION REFORM PLANS
Through the Immigration Reform Act, Taoiseach O'Reilly hopes to "fundamentally change" immigration practices

Mr. O'Reilly announced that immigration was at the forefront of the his agenda this session while visiting Petite-Corne in early August.

SPÁLGLEANN – The Glytteronian Government has published its plans for overhauling the national immigration system.

The O'Reilly Government published its report earlier this morning, releasing it to the press and posting it online. The overhaul, which will come through the Immigration Reform Act, is a series of government priorities formerly outlined in the Taoiseach's Address.

There are three major components to immigration reform: a new citizenship test, an increase in the number of immigrants admittedly annually, and a raise in the number of refugee families accepted annually.

Taoiseach Jimmy O'Reailly praised the plan in a statement today as "revolutionary modern" and indicated he had the support of the coalition. This means the Immigration Reform Act, commonly dubbed as the IRA, will pass the Comhthionól following its introduction. A spokesperson for the Taoiseach said it will be introduced by Mr. O'Reilly and fellow coalition leaders early next week.

Mr. O'Reilly also said that the reforms will "fundamentally change [Glytteronian] immigration policy for the better" and that the IRA will "continue to uphold the values of free movement of people and human rights".

"By admitting more refugees to our country annually, we ensure that those who often become stateless have a home here in our own country. Not only as Glytteronians, but as citizens of the world do we have an obligation to care for one another and provide those in need with shelter" he said.

Through the IRA, the citizenship test is to be revised by a commission, known as the Citizenship Test Commission, set up within the Ministry of Immigration and International Relief. The Commission will be asked to produce a points based exam in which applicants are required to achieve a passing score of 60% or higher. Letters of reference from employers, coworkers, neighbors, volunteer leaders, and religious leaders can be used to generate additional points, raising scores. However, the citizenship test can only be taken once a year, an increase from the current six month requirement.

The number of immigrants admitted to the country on an annual basis will also be raised from 50,000 to 75,000. In addition, foreign nationals who attend university in Glytter will automatically be considered immigrants upon the completion of their studies should they please, with immigration papers automatically completed for them by the Ministry of Immigration and International Relief. The government has indicated that subsidies for foreign students are "in the works" and may be included in coming education reform.

The third and final component of the IRA is an increase in the number of persons admitted annually as refugees. The number will rise from 25,000 to 50,000. It is important to note that the admittance of families would be prioritized over the admittance of single persons. The percentage of adult single males admitted to Glytter as refugees would be capped at 50% of the overall total. However, exceptions for refugees from regions designated as so called "crisis points" by the Ministry of Immigration and International Relief would be made.

The National Party through its parliamentary leader, Bairre Ó Raghallaigh, said he had "very real concerns" over the new "lackluster requirements" for citizenship and the reforms in the IRA overall. He heavily criticized the 60% benchmark as "depressingly low" and said that "those who do not love our country may simply forge letters of recommendation". However, he noted that the increase in the required window between tests is a sign of progress and said that his party would be willing to work with the O'Reilly Government "should it moderate itself" and "show it is serious about real immigration reform".

Mr. Ó Raghallaigh also criticized the increase in immigrants admitted annually, but praised the changes to refugee policy.

"We must show that we are a compassionate nation and provide temporary shelter for those who struggle to find it abroad. While I believe we should not raise the number of refugees admitted annually and that other Euclean nations should take their fair share, the prioritization of families is important. Single men have no business coming to our countries as refugees" he said.

The Free Market Party has also offered extensive criticism of the IRA, with its interim leading calling it "absolutely bloody horrifying" while the Labour Party has raised concerns over the influx of some 25,000 new workers.

The Social Democrats have for the most part remained silent on the issue, but party leader Stiofán Mac Suibhne warned that an increase in immigrants and refugees would strain social services.

"Without an increase in funding for social services, I believe such an increase is irresponsible" he said.

Immigration reform is one of the top priorities of Mr. O'Reilly. He heavily campaigned on changing immigration policy and often tapped into his background as the son of a Bahian refugee. When visiting Petite-Corne on his tour of the Gaullophonie, the Taoiseach announced that immigration reform was at the forefront of the government's agenda after the legislature returned from its summer recces.

“It is with great pride that I return to my mother’s homeland and with great honor that here today I announce immigration reform is at the top of our agenda for the upcoming session” he said.

"I find there is no better city than one named after Saint Anne-Marie - liberator of the blacks in the new world - to announced this reform. She is in part an inspiration. Glytter must follow in her footsteps and provide all with equal opportunity to live under both liberty and equality, and by changing immigration policy we can ensure just that".

Overall, the national attitude towards immigration reform is mixed. However, Mr. O'Reilly campaigned heavily on it and was granted a victory. Likewise, the xenophobic, anti-immigration FMP collapsed in the June election, possibly indicating the national attitude towards immigration may be changing.

VALENTIR'S LARGEST GAS COMPANY UNDER CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION

Colovia Natural Gas LLC., Valentir's largest natural gas producer and distributor, is under investigation by the Valentiri Federal Police amid claims by whistleblowers that the company is engaged in a large kickback operation with construction contractors at home and abroad.

The VFP officially opened an investigation this morning under the orders of Commissioner Harold Stark.

According to evidence handed over to the police, CNG executives have accepted billions of pounds in kickbacks in exchange for awarding lucrative construction contracts to construction companies. Multiple high-ranking individuals within the company are reported to have engaged with and profited from the kickbacks.

Whistleblowers assert that several of their most prominent facilities, such as the currently under construction Mako Island facility, is being built through such bribes.

The new allegations have prompted the VFP to expand upon an already ongoing investigation into money laundering claims related to Colovia Natural Gas.

Yvette Leoncour, CEO of CNG since 2011, has denied the charges and claims to have no knowledge of these kickbacks. Speaking to the press at a conference this morning she told reporters "I have no knowledge of these allegations of kickbacks within the company and I will work with the VFP to ensure their investigation is as seamless as possible."

CFO James Torres has brushed off reporters and President of the Board Kyle Harris has made no statements to the press so far.

The Department of Justice and Department of the Federal Treasury have indicated that the agencies responsible will "assist the VFP" with tackling the investigation and the "extremely serious allegations brought before us."

A multi-billion dollar company, CNG is the largest natural gas producer in Sublustria and has holdings in the Asterias and Coius. It controls two of the largest refineries in Northern Valentir and is currently constructing a new facility which is projected to be twice as large as the others. The facility on Mako Island off the coast of Honnleath is surrounded by the Greater Gorgon gas fields and is estimated to produce 15 million tonnes of LNG per year, as well as creating thousands of new construction jobs and around 3,000 new permanent jobs it is complete.

The immense size and influence of the CNG, both publicly and privately, has prompted Commissioner Stark to take the allegations head-on. He has wasted no time in mobilizing the various ethics commissions and agencies in assisting him with his "daunting" task.

A military veteran and longtime investigator and lawyer, Stark has an infamous reputation as a "no-nonsense workhorse." He was appointed as Commissioner of the VFP in 2014 and has a number of high-profile cases under the belt, the most notable of which is the Milhous Dome Scandal of 2014 which resulted in the impeachment and eventual resignation of President Abbott.

"The allegations before us are extremely serious and we will be approaching the investigation with an unwavering desire to uncover the truth and be utterly diligent in our pursuit of justice should we find any evidence of criminal activity within CNG."

The Federal Police have already begun acquiring warrants for search and seizure and are working towards freezing CNG's assets.

The Ministry of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, on behalf of the VFP, has already begun reaching out to law enforcement agencies in countries with CNG holdings with the aim of extending the investigation worldwide.

Carcosian Government Sends Aid to Asafiyah to Fight Al-Mukhtar Insurgency
As insurgents menace critical oil refinery, Special Forces to train and advise Asafiyahan troops while Security Directorate works to coordinate intelligence

The Carcosian government redoubled its pledge of support of President Karimi of Asafiyah's government in Tsovah today, pledging assistance from Carcosian special operations troops and intelligence services to help combat the ongoing Al-Mukhtar insurgency in the Natush region. Princeps Statia announced she would be instructing the Security Directorate to support Asafiyah security agencies in helping to investigate and track insurgent movements and plots, and also that she would be sending around 150 Carcosian special operations soldiers to train and advise the Asafiyahan military. The Senate also voted to give the Security Directorate a budget boost today, specifically to help cover "potential operational needs" as concerns rise about the Al-Mukhtar rebellion and the general stability of Carcosa's eastern neighbor, and also officially passed a resolution urging the Princeps and her government to "investigate alternative fuel markets." Asafiyah has long provided more than half of Carcosa's oil supply, through several pipelines that run into Entalia and then undersea to supply the Aurean Isles.

The move comes as the Asafiyahan military has hurriedly deployed more troops throughout the Natush region in the wake of increased insurgent activity, including deploying a number of troops to the town of Hujrah, near the critical Zulayyim refinery. The Zulayyim refinery, the largest such complex in Badawiya, is believed to be one of a number of installations in the Kayyat oil fields (which are located in the turbulent Natush region) threatened by recent insurgent activity. Much of the crude oil and refined fuel that flows into Carcosa through the Entalia cross-border pipelines comes from the Kayyat fields and the wells and refineries located there, making its security and stability a top national security priority for the Carcosian government. Any major disruption to oil production there could have severe consequences for Carcosa, though the Princeps reassured the Senate today that her government was taking "all necessary considerations" to keep the city's oil supply steady if the flow of oil from Asafiyah should be threatened, and reportedly has been preparing a resolution for Senate consideration to appropriate funds to purchase fuel produced and crude oil stored at the city's large oil and gas terminal, which is a hub for shipments from across Badawiya.

However, some within the Foreign Service have reported that the government has been frustrated by President Karimi's lackluster response to the turmoil in Natush, as the President voted against deploying reinforcements to protect the Zulayyim refinery and has repeatedly persisted in attempting to demilitarize and negotiate with the insurgents despite an increase in rebel attacks (though he was overruled). "He's just trying to push ahead and ignore all evidence to the contrary," one senior diplomat who asked to remain anonymous said. "The demilitarization approach clearly has been a failure. We've seen an uptick in rebel activity and a degradation of the military's ability to respond, and he [Karimi] has just stuck with the same failed approach." As the militants continue to grow bolder and resist calls to come to the table, and allies grow frustrated with his weak responses, it remains to be seen if President Karimi will change tack.

Ex-Foreign Minister Frank Casarnach said the Margadh Coinbhinsiún will vote against the IRA in its current form

During the Liberty Party's leadership race, Frank Casarnach took hard-line stances against immigration and pledged to restrict new immigration.

SPÁLGLEANN – A group of Liberty Party TCs led by ex-Foreign Minister Frank Casarnach have publicly announced their opposition to the government's plan for immigration reform.

In a press conference held today, Mr. Casarnach said that the Margadh Coinbhinsiún was in "total opposition" to the Immigration Reform Act, which was unveiled by the O'Reilly Government on Thursday.

"It is irresponsible to increase the number of people admitted to this country on a yearly basis by 50,000. Crime rates will spike, education and social services will be overwhelmed. If anything, we should be decreasing the number of new persons we admit" he said.

"We cannot support this, as it is too irresponsible. Should the government remove the increase in immigrants and refugees admitted annually, we will offer our support".

Through the IRA, the number of immigrants admitted to the country on an annual basis will also be raised from 50,000 to 75,000. In addition, foreign nationals who attend university in Glytter will automatically be considered immigrants upon the completion of their studies should they please, with immigration papers automatically completed for them by the Ministry of Immigration and International Relief. The government has indicated that subsidies for foreign students are "in the works" and may be included in coming education reform.

In addition, the number of persons admitted annually as refugees will also be increased from 25,000 to 50,000. It is important to note that the admittance of families would be prioritized over the admittance of single persons. The percentage of adult single males admitted to Glytter as refugees would be capped at 50% of the overall total. However, exceptions for refugees from regions designated as so called "crisis points" by the Ministry of Immigration and International Relief would be made.

The citizenship test will also be revised through the IRA, but the Margadh Coinbhinsiún did not state its opposition to the planned revision.

The group has also offered to meet with the government to discuss potential changes.

Mr. Casarnach has served as the group's chair since June, following his dismissal as Foreign Minister.

The Margadh Coinbhinsiún (literally: Market Convention), is one of the many coinbhinsiúin, or conventions, in the Comhthionól. Many of the TCs in the Margadh Coinbhinsiún are strongly influenced by the ideology of former Taoiseach Patricia Flowers and are considered Flowerites. Generally, they support a self described "less is more" approach to government. They support laissez-faire, the flat tax, deregulation, a reduction in the size of the welfare state, and the complete privatization of the healthcare sector. Many of its members are openly opposed to the Euclean Community, something the mainstream of the Liberty Party fully supports.

Mr. Casarnach was formally endorsed by Ms. Flowers in the March Liberty leadership contest. The ex-Foreign Minister was also backed by the last Flowerite Taoiseach, Enda Kelley. He enjoyed strong support among the Flowerite delegates and other right-wing delegates at the Liberty National Convention, which was held in March in order to replace outgoing Taoiseach Alexis Walker. All of the TCs in the Margadh Coinbhinsiún supported the ex-minister in the leadership contest against incumbent Taoiseach Jimmy O'Reilly.

During the leadership race, the ex-Foreign Minister campaigned to the right in order to differentiate himself from Mr. O'Reilly, who ran as a Walkerite moderate. This was especially true on both immigration and the Euclean Community. Sources close to the Taoiseach claim this is where the relationship between the two man began to deteriorate.

"[Casarnach's] shift to the right was not limited to the campaign. It infiltrated his work as Minister of Foreign Affairs and began to negatively reflect on the [O'Reilly] government" a senior cabinet official told GBF News.

"Press conferences became spectacles and the rest of the Cabinet found itself conducting damage control".

Sources close to the Taoiseach have said they were "appalled" by the "complete lack of loyalty to party and tradition".

"You aren't supposed to attack your own party like this, on one of its biggest issues" one source said.

"This is something the party will never forget" said another".

The near fringe group of Flowerites has seen its numbers decline since Walker and her allies assumed near total control of the Liberty Party before the 2007 election. Many of the Flowerite TCs in traditionally safe constituencies were removed from the list of candidates submitted by the party or placed low on it. Only those in hotly contested districts were spared.

Their influence within the Liberty Party has been minute since the downfall of Enda Kelley. However, during her tenure ex-Taoiseach Walker always made sure to take care of the group, ensuring they were not totally isolated. However, the young nature of the O'Reilly Government and the broken relationship of the Taoiseach and Casarnach seems to have emboldened the group.

The group's whip, Humphrey Dumfries, said that it was "wrong of the [O'Reilly] government to proceed without first consulting his own caucus".

"We have always stood for responsible government. The [IRA] is simply irresponsible, and as such we must oppose it".

He dismissed criticism of senior party officials as "nonsensical blackmail".

"I have no interest in being threatened by those who think they are owed something" Mr. Dumfries said.

The rift between the mainstream of the party and the right-flank could spell trouble for the government, who through coalition holds a majority of just five seats. However, it is unlikely any other such policy will be as divisive. So, if tensions do not continue to rise and the rhetoric subsides, there is a strong chance that the party will be able to emerge as a unified force again.

However, the somewhat wildcard nature of Mr. Casarnach makes it hard to predict any such return to normalcy. Since his sacking, he has made comments both on and off the record that he is very disillusioned with Taoiseach O'Reilly, going as far to call him an "empty suit".

The Taoiseach himself as been very silent on the issue, In a statement, he said he will continue fighting for the IRA and will take that fight to the Glytteronian people if the legislature fails to act.

"This is an issue we cannot ignore, and inaction is something that we cannot tolerate" the statement said.

The IRA is expected to be introduced to the Comhthionól this week. However, one senior cabinet official said it is may be postponed.

"What is the point of introducing a bill if its dead in the water? That is simply irresponsible, and the government is in near agreement that we mustn't do that" the source said.

However, Ceann Comhairle Nicolás Cummins said he would be allow for a vote to be delayed on the bill after its introduction, meaning the government could introduce the IRA this week and not have to worry about a lack of votes.

"There is no rush to get [the IRA] through. We must do it right and we will follow procedure" the Ceann Comhairle told reporters.

Organisation of Military Industries Denies Links with VredoChem
The OMI, Fars’s vast state arms producer, denies accusations that it is has done business with Vredlandian chemical company VredoChem

Iraj Shahuna, the Director of the state-owned Organisation of Military Industries arms company, has denied accusations that the organisation he oversee's on behalf of the Ministry of Defence has commercial links to the disgraced Vredlandian chemicals and pharmaceuticals giant, VredoChem.

In a press briefing today, Director Shahuna denied all links to the Euclean chemicals company after rumours that his Organisation had been accused of doing illegal business with the Vredlandian corporation throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s. As yet it is not known if these accusations are official or not, but with VredoChem’s offices in Eldburg being raided last week the OMI has seeked to distance itself from any and all accusations.

VredoChem is being investigated by the Vredlandian Procureur Spécial de la Republique, par la grâce de Dieu, the Special Prosecutor of the Republic, Michel Theurer on behalf of the Vrelandian Department of Justice on suspicion of a breach of Annex IV of the Arms Export Regulation which states that committees of the Assembly need to sign off on certain arms exportation deals, especially those involving materials that could be used in the construction of weapons of mass destruction. The relevant committee’s did not sign off on a deal which went ahead between VredoChem and an anonymous client, currently the special prosecutor is investigating who this client is and what materials were sold to them. Thus while Iraj Shahuna’s statements today were designed to distance themselves from the VredoChem scandal unfolding in Eldburg, some commentators suggest that this simply implicates the Organisation of Military Industries as the anonymous party.

As yet there have been no indication of what materials might have been sold by VredoChem, no matter who the client. However Doctor Sima Roowala, a Professor of Coian Studies at the University of Carcosa and a descendent of Farsi migrants from the 1970s, has said that if the anonymous party does turn out to be the Farsi OMI it is likely VredoChem supplied materials for the development of Farsi chemical weapons, thought to have first been made in the 1990s following the Darshistan Civil War and the stockpiles and continuously updated since. The Farsi state has never confirmed or denied the existence of a chemical weapons stockpile, however most international observers have treated it as fact for decades despite there being little hard evidence. Dr Roowala described the possibility of any sale of chemical agents to a third party organisation as “deeply troubling” and a “highly illegal transaction that flies in the face of Vredlandian and international law”.

VredoChem is one of the largest chemicals manufacturers in the world, with an annual profit of over 4.5 billion euclos and with over 115,000 employees across the world with enormous influence in Vredlandian and Euclean government. The investigation into VredoChem has been condemned by its CEO Blaise Heidewich as a “wild goose chase based on groundless accusations leading nowhere” but has promised his full cooperation with the authorities. Of course this investigation takes place at a time of increased tension in Vredlandia, following the results of the reform bill referendum which has seen the resignation of Seneschal Kloth from office.

The Organisation of Military Industries is a state owned arms manufacturing in Fars, controlled 100% by the Farsi Ministry of Defence and employing over 35,000 people, it is a cornerstone of the burgeoning Farsi arm manufacturing sector having been set up during the Farsi intervention in the Darshistan Civil War.

ANALYSIS: THREE MONTHS SINCE THE ELECTION, AND THE FMP IS STILL IN RUINS
What was once a political insurgency has been reduced to almost nothing, and the party's outlook remains grim

The Free Market Party has been leaderless since its collapse at the 12 June general election, when Saorla Ní Chadhla resigned.

SPÁLGLEANN – If you had told the Free Market Party's 44 TCs last June that their party would be obliterated within the year, you would have been laughed out of the room and endlessly heckled on social media.

However, exactly that has just happened. Following what has been dubbed the "FMP freefall" in June's general election, the party has been left shell-shocked and in shambles. In the 2012 election, the party was an insurgent force. It was redefining what it meant to be a Glytteronian and a conservative. The party had gained 22 seats in the Comhthionól, increased its first preference votes by almost 500,000, and became the third largest party in the lower house. The party was on the rise, and then leader Pádraigín Ó Baoighill was responsible. The firebrand had tapped into a growing frustration among the Glytteronian right as well as the fear of the working class. As Taoiseach Walker embraced Euclea with open arms, Ó Baoighill portrayed herself as an independent alternative who would protect jobs and the nation. This was an important demarcation for the FMP, as it stopped really being a laissez-faire party and began to embrace populist economics.

Ó Baoighill served as leader from 2009 to 2016. The populist and contentious figure polarized Glytter in a new way. Elections were typically a quiet a fair. Personal attacks were seldom used. This ended in 2012. Following their victory, the FMP embraced a full-blown bombastic approach. Personal insults became the norm, both on television, on social media, and during legislative sessions. After several years, it became normalized. However, things changed last year with the 23 August Attacks. Ó Baoighill railed against radical Salam, only to find out it was in fact radical leftists behind the attacks. Violence broke out between her supporters and law enforcement and the parties united in opposition to her. She resigned a few days later, leaving behind a battered and bruised - but still standing - party.

She was following by her deputy leader, Saorla Ní Chadhla. Unlike Ó Baoighill, Ní Chadhla was a true populist. She had no patience or place in her party for what she deemed the ideologically impure - the Liam Ó Cuillinns and the Bairre Ó Raghallaighs of the party. As such, she purged them. It began following public criticism of her by what Ní Chadhla dubbed as poor losers. Both of her inter-party rivals ran against her for the leadership and were soundly defeated. The ejection of Ó Cuillinn and departure of Ó Raghallaigh marked the end of the FMP. Four more TCs were ejected for criticism of the party leadership and the National Party was born. Ní Chadhla splintered her own party. The FMP was left with five fewer TCs going into the general election, one less MEP, and one less senator.

Opinion polls suggest people became tired of the party once Ní Chadhla became leader. The divisive nature of FMP politics had begun to isolate them. There was no chance the FMP would become the largest party and there was no part for the FMP to enter a coalition with the Liberty Party or the Social Democrats. What could the FMP do for many of these voters anymore? What could they do for them that Labour or the Nationals couldn't? It seems many asked themselves this very question heading into 12 June, and we have seen the result.

The FMP lost 37 seats. Its first preference vote share dropped by nearly 570,000 votes. Its collapse benefited its rivals: Labour, the Nationals, PNG. The party was left broken, and three months later nothing has really changed.

There is no party leader, just an acting one. Muirís Ó Raghallaigh is simply a caretaker and has indicated he has no interest in taking over the party in the long term. FMP rules mandate that a TC serve as party leader and it seems no one really wants the job. With the vultures circling, the party has to find a new message, a new approach. Or, it will have to disband if it wants to avoid being booted out of the legislature in 2022.

Following three leaders who have exited the leadership by inflicting massive damage on the party, the question must be asked: does the FMP have a future?

Seán Mac Diarmaid was ousted by the party following a series of scandals surrounding his business exploiting migrant and refugee workers which shook the party's anti-immigrant wing to its core. Ó Baoighill tried to take advantage of a national tragedy and Ní Chadhla broke it and it seems no one is willing to pick up the pieces. It doesn't help that its last two leaders are both under investigation for various crimes either. The party name is extremely tainted and its rivals will continue to exploit that.

Secretly, some of the party's remaining TCs have been talking about leaving.

One TC, who previously enjoyed a prominent leadership position during the tenure of Ó Baoighill, said that the party is "very clearly dead" and the only way to remain a TC was to "run as far away from it as possible".

Another FMP TC said that he was "amazed the party still stands" and that he "sincerly doubts it will be around for [the] 2022 [general election]".

With remarks like that, it is no wonder the party remains without a leader. Instead, one must wonder how the party still stands. If its own TCs want to flee what they believe is a failed party, how much longer will the FMP live and breath?

In a sense, I feel as if I am almost writing an obituary. For many, it is one that is long overdue.

VredoChem Denies Media Allegations: "Never sold chemical weaponry to Fars or any other country"

Eldburg, Vredlandia - After the HQ of VredoChem was raided last week, many observes raised any eyebrow -- if not both of them. VredoChem is one of the most influential in Vredlandian business: Among world leaders in chemics, their name carried by some of the greatest Vredlandian football clubs. What would possibly wake the attention of federal authorities? Farsi media seemed to shed a light on it all -- According to the Susa Broadcasting Corporation, Vredo Chem might have been involved in selling Fars chemical weaponry. Blaise Heidewich, CEO of VredoChem, came forward today to react to these accusations -- And he might have just gotten a lot of aid of the government.

Ten days ago, the HQ of VredoChem was raided by armed officers. Files, documents and even some staffers were brought outside for all of Vredlandia to see. Markets reacted heavily and brought the rise of VredoChem assets to a halt and below -- The uncertainty wasn't well liked. When news hit in Fars that VredoChem may have aided them with chemical weaponry, however, that was a lot worse than any uncertainty. VredoChem shares hit a four-year low once the news reached Euclea and Asteria, investors are backing off. The harsh reaction seems to indicate that there's more to the news than just slander, and so Vredlandian authorities now have to deal with it.

Procureur Sp. de la Republique GdD. Michel Theurer declined to comment on any news. "If we were investigating such a case, we would certainly be busy with other things than the media circus", he commented. First statements were leaked from his office, though. According to Farsi Media, they're investigating VredoChem for a breach of Annex IV of the Arms Export Regulation. Few Vredlandians know what this is about, but very basically it reaffirms that chemical weaponry is banned and that any trade with something that can be used for chemical weaponry has to be signed off by a number of National Assembly committees -- And it defines which ones. Breaches of this act are regular and not with evil motives -- But the use of Vredlandia's Special Prosecutor shows that this case is different. This might go as high as treason, or even worse.

VredoChem itself played things low. ""We never sold chemical weaponry to Fars or any other country", their CEO reassured. The media and foreign players were keen on weakening Vredlandian businesses, and VredoChem had seen lots of slander in all its years. "There's nothing to see", CEO Heidewich said. In the meantime, the Ministry of Law -- privvy to investigations -- may have accidently aided VredoChem greatly. In their new calendar Minister Saam is still said to visit a VredoChem conference to talk about legal difficulties and necessities. Saam, known for not bringing harm to his Seneschal, is widely thought to think nothing of the new accusations if he's still willing to attend one of their ocnferences. Unsurprisingly, though, Saam also declined to comment.

Even with all those good news in mind, though, one thing must be clear: VredoChem's denial was half-baked and leaves more to ask than it answered. Did they aid in the construction of chemical weaponry or sell material for it? What is there to uncover? If the media -- and our Justice system -- is working well, we might soon learn the truth.

PUSHKARMA, PHULA - A striking discovery was made last Sunday, though only now there is clearance to make it public. Lama Thenba, who reportedly fasted himself into a shriveled mummy, has been found at last. His tomb has long stood in a relatively isolated location, with some pilgrims paying tribute to him by walking narrow mountain passes, but this tomb meant little as his body was never interred within his sarcophagus. Filling his tomb are sculptures of gold, bronze, wood, and in one case iron representing his likeness, but these were the best pilgrims had since his death thousands of years ago. Now that the body has been found, many are questioning what to do with it.

The circumstances of the body were quite extraordinary. A hidden chamber carved beneath his tomb, very narrow and dark, was ultimately the Lama's final resting place. The wooden floor of the tomb was constantly over a stone underlayer, the bricks hiding that such a chamber existed at all. As the legend describes, his body was in a state of near perfect preservation. His last meal appears to have consisted of salted nuts and special tea, perhaps to aid in the mummification process. Although the legend states that he had intended to meditate for three weeks, dying after only five days, there is strong reason to believe, according to his unusual diet, his mental deterioration before death, and his choice of space for meditation, that he had intended to commit self-mummification for reasons unknown. It is stated, however, that his enlightenment was so great that a rainbow crossed the sky on his fifth day of meditation, which his guards took as a sign to investigate and check up on him to see what he had achieved.

Many activists are saying that the body should be promptly returned to the tomb and put back in the tomb. These people state that on the grounds of their ancient Jyoho faith, the body must be returned to its shrine that pilgrims may continue their worship and praise of the long-dead saint. They argue that a glass case or some method of safe display should be installed that his body can be properly respected. Others say this is not far enough, and that the body must be reinterred where it had been prior, since this is what the ancients desired of his body and it would not rob the tomb of meaning. Although there is great scientific merit to studying the cadaver to learn more about the ancient Antarita kingdom, its leadership, and its people, the devout followers of Jyoho are being very vocal about their desires.

The scientists of the country wish to examine the body and apply forsenic science. Further research than the extremely basic overview it has already been given is desired by these parties, who state that the followers of Jyoho are "too emotional" and "fail to seize modernity". Potentially influencing them are internal ethnic divisions, as the vast majority of the scientists on the team report "Bhagism" and "Satyism", often both at the same time. These religions stand in contrast to the traditional Rygyalic Jyoho faith. Even though Satyism has much in common with Jyoho, heavily influenced by it, it does not necessarily hold the same reverence for the kings of old and the cult of the state that Antarita established long ago. It promotes active scholarship as well, giving modern students and scientists an easy choice when questions like this arise. "We appreciate and respect the body" says one anonymous scientist, "but we can't just let it sit forever in a tomb, we have to look deeper into this first."

It is unclear what decision will be made at the moment. Some speculate that the Grand Princess, Avani Adhikari, will need to step in to finalize a choice due to a stalemate. Ms. Adhikari is a devout Satyist of Adhavitra ethnicity. She holds ties to both the Hyndic north and the Rygyalic south, as well as close connections to several of the isolate groups in Phula's landscape. Given the historical position of the Adhikari dynasty, and of Ms. Adhikari herself, it is likely she will take a middling stance that allows research but ensures the body returns intact within a reasonable amount of time. It is to be hoped, however, that this will not go so far as to warrant her response, and her true reaction cannot be known until a public statement is made.

Whatever happens, we here at Flowerpot Magazine believe that Ms. Adhikari will make the right decision if it comes to it.
In the mean time, we can all simply appreciate the outstanding discovery that has been made, and may we all remember Lama Thenba for good and for bad as a legendary figure we now have absolute confirmation for.

As tensions increase in the Natush region and Al-Mukhtar forces increase their presence in the area, Elias Halevi, the Leader of the Asafiayah First Party, delivered a series of harsh criticisms against the Navon Administration at a party rally in Hadassim. His critique comes shortly after President Karimi and Premier Navon voted against sending additional reinforcements to assist in the defense of the Kayyat oil fields and the vital Zulayyim refinery near the town of Hujrah. A longtime opponent of the President, Halevi has taken full advantage of Karimi's opposition to a military solution to the insurgency.

Referring to their vote against the High Command's request for additional forces as a "betrayal of the sacrifices of previous generations," Halevi slammed the current administration's defense record. Citing their "failures" to properly contain Al-Mukhtar in the Kadima Highlands and their botched handling of a series of brutal bombings in Tsovah and Al-Qurain back in June, he branded members of the Navon Administration as "cowards" who "lack the resilience needed to protect the country."

Halevi stated that this "cowardice" will only bring further harm to Asafiyah as Al-Mukhtar continues to regroup and move from strength to strength unhindered. Arguing that this pacifistic approach will only worsen the conflict ahead, Halevi told the crowd that every facet of the Asafiyahan military should be mobilized in response and that active security measures should be implemented around the country. He also praised the anonymous statement from a senior Carcosan diplomat who was concerned that President Karimi was "ignoring all evidence" by pushing for a peaceful approach to the insurgency. "It is a sad day for this country when a foreign official has to tell the President why his policies are wrong and harmful to those he claims to care about."

The straightforwardness of Halevi and his calls for action against the enemies of the Confederacy have resonated well with the electorate. Polls show that he has climbed to fourth place amongst likely voters and in a one on one poll between him and the Premier he held a 2% lead. With election season just around the corner, Halevi has made remarkable progress in building his party from the ground up, adopting a big tent and third-way approach that has seen the AFP skyrocket in popularity.

Halevi's comments didn't fall on deaf ears the President responded to his statements made in Hadassim. President Karimi told the press this evening: "It is my belief that Mr. Halevi doesn't truly understand the heart of the conflict. In his calls for the use of force, he shows his true flaw as a leader, revealing his recklessness and his unwillingness to look past what he doesn't want to see: peace in our time."

GROUP OF SDs MODERATES PLEDGE TO BACK O'REILLY'S IMMIGRATION REFORM
A group of nineteen Social Democratic TCs will support the Immigration Reform Act, saving the bill

Despite the loss of TCs from his own party, Taoiseach Jimmy O'Reilly's immigration reform bill now has enough votes for a majority.

SPÁLGLEANN – A group of nineteen Social Democratic TCs have announced they will support the O'Reilly Government's proposed Immigration Reform Act.

TCs, who are breaking ranks and backing the government, held a press conference earlier today to announce their support.

The Immigration Reform Act, which was unveiled by the O'Reilly Government last week, is intended to completely overhaul and "modernize" the Glytteronian immigration process. The IRA seeks to raise the number of immigrants and refugees admitted to the country annually as well make changes to the citizenship test.

Taoiseach Jimmy O'Reilly's planned reform remains controversial with conservative elements within the legislature, including the conservative flank of his party. Ex-Foreign Minister Frank Casarnach, who leads the conservative Margadh Coinbhinsiún, announced on Sunday that his group of twenty two Flowerite TCs is in "total opposition" to the IRA.

Mr. Casarnach said it was "irresponsible" and insisted the government should be lowering the number of people admitted annually, not raising it.

However, what many speculated was once a doomed bill now has a serious chance at becoming law. The government holds 205 of 399 seats in the Comhthionól Náisiúnta, giving it a slim majority of five seats. The loss of the twenty two Margadh Coinbhinsiún TCs will be offset by the support from the nineteen SDs, giving the Government 202 votes - enough for a majority.

"I think, given recent electoral trends, it is time for the [Social Democratic] Party to begin playing nice with the Liberty Party. After fifteen years in the opposition, that lesson must be learned" Sinéad Ní Loingsigh, TC for Gayneva Central said.

Ms. Ní Loingsigh is a former ally of Morgan Leneghan, the last Social Democratic Taoiseach of Glytter whose tenure lasted from 1992 to 2002, and served as previously her Trade Minister. The Leneghan Governments are often remembered for their centrist, third way tendencies that upset many within the party's traditionally left-of-centre electoral base. Ms. Ní Loingsigh is the most prominent of the TCs in what is being dubbed as the Friday Group.

"It was never our intention to break ranks in such a way" said Conor Ó Corráin, TC for Snarksburgh East. "However, we believe it is time to work with the Government to achieve our priorities. We stand united in our call to the [SD] party leadership to do the same".

A source close to the leader of the SDs and His Majesty's Most Loyal Opposition, Stiofán Mac Suibhne, said the party leadership was "disappointed" by the break in the ranks.

"Discipline is obviously a very important thing in parliamentary politics. Maybe we need to do better".

However, the source also said that Mr. Mac Suibhne remained "open" to the idea of working with the O'Reilly Government. "I wouldn't rule it out".

Previously, Mr. Mac Suibhne has publicly warned against the IRA, saying that: "without an increase in funding for social services, I believe [an increase in admitted immigrants and refugees] is irresponsible".

A source within the Shadow Cabinet said that the Opposition "may be willing" to lend its support to the Government should a deal be reached for increased funding to social services.

"I could easily see us supporting the bill should new funding be added" the source said.

So far Mr. Mac Suibhne has declined to comment publicly.

Taoiseach O'Reilly hailed the defections as a "extended olive branch" and said the Friday Group was "putting country before party".

He also criticized the TCs led by the ex-Foreign Minister, claiming they were "bitter" over his win in the party leadership contest.

A spokesperson for the Government also announced it would move forward with introducing the IRA to the Comhthionól this week. The Government postponed the bill's introduction following the announcement of the Margadh Coinbhinsiún's opposition.

Ceann Comhairle Nicolás Cummins said he will "see to it" that the IRA is "up for a vote as soon as procedurally possible".

"While I hope to get [the IRA] up for a vote soon, we must first let it flow through committee before it comes to the whole of the chamber for a vote" he said.

Such a vote could take place as early as next week.

Negara intakes a breath of sharp air once again.

On the emotional and moral high from the recent referendum on the sovereignty of the island of Nouveau Anglet, it seems that the Social Democratic Party is happy to press what Vallette has called "the final act in the story of the 'controversies' surrounding Gaullica's lands; Nouveau Anglet and the Îles des Saints. In his joint address of parliament earlier today, alongside First Minister Abdulrashid, President Vallette highlighted that "the calling of the people of Nouveau Anglet was clear." and "that they have spoken, they wish to remain with Gaullica, their mother country."

He went on to say that "a similar cry was heard in 2014, with a referendum on the Isles of the Saints."

"Gaullica has often had to prove to many worldwide onlookers that we are not the imperialists they conceptualise in their minds. We are, unfortunately for some, no longer able to be pin-pointed as an 'imperialist' or 'national funtionalist' state with tendrils in every portion of the planet, aiming to tune the world to our fiddle or to make states dance to the tune of our flutes. Well, now we wish to include our own citizens - confirmed by referenda - further into our democracy. This government is one built on social equality and we are providing that for our citizens in our lands. None would question the statehood of the Ile de Fleur, Nouveau Anglet is no different - neither are the Isles."

Bipartisan support for the notion was present in the Chambre, with applause - even from the right parties on Vallette's decision. Pierre Tesfort (GC), the parliamentary head of the in-parliament group the "Nouveau Anglet" - headquartered in "Nouveau Anglet House" - announced that he would "be working closely with the administration" in the production of the new referendum, set to hit both areas in the spring of next year.

The bill seeks to grant immediate statehood to both regions; including fully incorporated state governments and further inclusion in Gaullica's electoral systems. Vallette has promised to place an independent commission in charge of drawing the constituencies that form an integral part of Gaullica's MMPR system. Furthermore, the bill outlines the notions of an expansion of the Second Chamber, if the isles were to accept statehood, to better incorporate their delegates. Additionally the bill contains investment figures for "the improvement of the infrastructure, both civilian and military, on the isles - as is befitting for states of the Gaullican Republic."

It is set to be voted on by the Gaullican Parliament in the coming weeks - where we hope further detail will emerge about the intricacies of the piece of legislation.

ANTONA CHOSEN TO HOST INTERNATIONAL CLIMATE SUMMIT
Competing with over 50 other cities from across the Federation, Antona was selected by a CN Committee to host representatives from nearly every nation in the world to discuss the topic of climate change.

This past March, the Federation was one of many CN members to volunteer to host the "[City] International Climate Accord"-- an assembly among nearly every nation in the world to create a constructive agreement in order to tackle the threat of climate change. In late April, the CN Committee designated to planning and coordinating the summit selected the Federation, and more than 50 cities entered a bid to host the talks. Yesterday, the Committee decided that Antona - one of Asteria's most famous cities - will hold the Accords.

Antona is not the Federation's largest city by far, but it holds great historical value due to its role in the Asterian Civil War. The city, located in the eastern half of Freeman, fell under the control of the Confederation of Independent States, and was a vital railroad hub that allowed the CIS to funnel troops and supplies to the frontlines-- the complex and deadly network of trenches that ran through parts of Asteria like a scar, and some of which being visible today. Much of the city was destroyed in 1909 during the Battle of Antona, when Federalists drove the Separatists from the city, and many parts of the city remained in ruins until as late as the 1940s.

The Accords will most likely happen in Maiden Bank Stadium, home of the Antona Falcons, but Mayor Kelly Walsh has also stated that they could take place in the Freeman State Building, where the state's Senate and House convene. Mayor Walsh has called the decision for Antona to be the location of the Accords an "honor", and that "our city would be humbled by the presence of so many world leaders, especially for such a great cause." President Avery spoke to the Press in regards to the Federation hosting the international accords. "I think I speak for most Asterians when I say that the Federation is happy to host these climate talks. Climate change is a very real threat, and while it may not come to fruition within our lifetimes, it's important to take these steps to protect or planet now, rather than later. After all, we didn't inherit the planet from our parents and grandparents. We borrowed it from our children and grandchildren."

There is, however, a significant amount of controversy surrounding President Avery's decision to allow these talks to happen on Asterian soil, especially as many doubt the concept of climate change. Kevin Hartzel, a renowned climate scientist, had consistently opposed this notion. "The planet is constantly warming and cooling" Hartzel says, "and despite what many of my colleagues will have you believe, this is not a settled issue. We simply have no way of calculating the impact that Humans have had in the process of warming the planet, and there is much evidence that counters this idea that Human activity is leading to the rapid warming of the planet."

However, the Federation has been taking steps to delay the process of global warming for decades. While the White Administration neglected the issue, many states and cities have taken to creating their own laws, moving towards Green Energy. 6 States legally require homeowners to have at least one solar panel on the roofs of their houses, many states have invested millions in creating massive windfarms, and the Federal Government has spent decades trading coal power for nuclear, wind, and hydroelectric power. The Avery Administration stands by the decision to host the Accords, however, and pledges to be "very vocal" in the talks.

SCIENCE SERIES SEES SUCCESS
A Phuli series targeted towards educating about science, math, and Estmerish catches a cult following

PUSHKARMA, PHULA - Probaballistics is the name of a TV series that many in Phula adore. Focused around teaching math and science, especially skills like statistics, geometry, trigonometry, physics, and other fields that are considered beneficial to a military career, the program also educates in the use of the Estmerish language- pronunciaion, spelling, and vocabulary. Although it is designed for young children, it has gathered a large and strong following of teens and young adults just as eager to watch each airing as their younger siblings and, for some, even their children. This phenomenon has undergone examination by several curious and baffled scientists, though others seem confident in their conclusion without having lifted a finger to do research.

Prajit Kunsang, a major shareholder of the Lotus Dreams, the company providing the program, has this to say: "Of course they're attracted to it. The program is educational, and brings complex math and science to the reach of easy-to-understand, almost childlike proportions. These people may be struggling in their schoolwork, but just watching an episode of our series seems to them to be so much more effective than sitting in their classroom doing their schoolwork." Mr. Kunsang is a respected individual and philanthropist, and acts as a co-director for the series. "Many do just fine in a classroom setting, but for those who really want to learn and the class just isn't cutting it, our series is always there for them. Even the kids now will grow up with a much better understanding, and will be more prepared for careers with the government, or as scientists, they won't be scared away from their dreams anymore."

"I agree with Mr. Kunsang," says notable scientist, Yuvan Brahmi, "If you look at the demographics of the people watching the show over the age of 10, it peaks right around the age for high school and early into university. It is no coincidence that many of these viewers are just getting into the early stages of the tougher sciences and mathematics courses. If complex terms can be put simple enough that a child can understand it, as approved and told by professionals, then why shouldn't they use it as a helpful study guide? I think it's excellent that children and young adults are finding more avenues to increase their understanding of the world, and are utilizing innovative methods to breach the barrier into the 'hard' communities of military science, engineering, and so on."

Whatever one has to say about the phenomenon, it's proven quite beneficial. Grades have gone up nationwide. Although many are mocked for turning to children's shows, the followers of Probaballistics state that it is much more adult than many realize. Men in their 20s show up to conventions dressed as the cutesy cartoon characters that appear in the series, many of which are voiced by high-ranking scientists hired from universities across the nation. These grown men, dressed in their pastel costumes, take on a secondary role of entertaining the younger children who likewise attend the cons. They put on shows, skits, write unique material,
and even sign autographs in-character for them. It promotes an atmosphere of kindness and understanding across Phula's diverse internal environment that many loving viewers state "just isn't there in the real world."

The program also instructs in the Estmerish language, and important lingua franca for much of the world. Estmerish is the singular Euclean language considered most important by the Phuli government due to historical connections between Estmere and the princes of modern Hyndana. Through use of the Estmerish language, and introducing new vocabulary, the program hopes to help children learn the tongue while they are still young and impressionable. Although many of the writers behind the show are deeply in favor of promoting local indigenous languages, they likewise note "a lingua franca can never hurt to know on the side."

The success of the series will likely continue into the future. We can only wait and see how much this further affects the land.
Until then, Lotus Dreams is considering expanding their viewing base to nearby regions. Mr. Kunsang was last seen smiling after a meeting on this very subject, so whatever they decided, it is likely to please the country's favorite philanthropist.
