I'm willing to back a conservative GOP party.

I am not willing to fuck with crazy though, which is exactly what being in cahoots with the GOP sounds like right now.

What would you define conservative as, exactly?

A respect for tradition and experience, for one. Not resistance to change, because that is frankly absurd, but a respect for the past and what it can teach us.

The goal in change for a Conservative though should be stability, not change for the sake of change, and not change because of social justice and whatnot unlike Liberals, who want to correct past wrongs, and they come up with ideas for it, but these ideas are neither sustainable, nor achievable sometimes. If we have to roll back a change we should, and if we have to implement a change we should as well. A lot of "conservatives" nowadays could be best described as "reactionary conservatives", which are frankly a bane on intellectual discourse.

Conservatism and reactionary conservatism have at the same root tradition, however, reactionary conservatism, to me, is simply disagreeing with a liberal because they're a liberal, and not because their idea is faulty. And, frankly, we are seeing a lot of that between the GOP and the Democrats. Each being increasingly obnoxious about their reactionary behavior and each other's.

Being a conservative shouldn't mean working with a liberal is anathema. It should be about working with them to have a more mature idea, if the idea is good enough, that can be implemented for long-term change. And, if changes need to be made, for them to be thought out instead of being half-assed ideas that, frankly, are not really all that good. For instance, I can ideologically agree with a liberal about a safety net needed for the poor, that doesn't mean I agree with the socialist's exercise in futility of nationalizing industries either.

Now, I understand the Overton window has expanded to include reactionary ideas as conservative, but I'd like to prevent the total collapse of conservatism into reactionary territory.

What would you define conservative as, exactly?

Conservatism = Traditional, keeping things the same, obviously anti-liberalism, anti-immigrant, often religious.

You don't have to be anti-immigrant to be a conservative.

Neither do you have to advocate a preservation of the status quo ante for it. Nor be anti-liberal (although being anti-liberal does come with the territory, but for entirely different reasons than "they're liberal so if they say red I say blue").

Yes, religion would be a facet, although not necessary, for conservatism as an ideology to welcome, since religion has a strict adherence to tradition, even though it doesn't exactly require one to be religious to be a conservative, in my opinion.

This has been a problem already clarified multiple times in immigration discussions.

Yes, short term damage (1 year period) will see millions lost in the economy and in the long run (10yr) we're going to be losing a lot more than that.

However, the reason for this is because immigrants are literally embedded into our economy by now. There's no easy way to pull them out without creating massive damage for decades to come.

We'll be fine, it just will take a while to recover under the current economic climate.
