Task Force: THESEUS


Task Force: THESEUS is a military science fiction role play taking place in the first half of the 24th Century. Centered around the Sol Systems stellar neighborhood it will tell the story of the crew, pilots, and operators of the TNV Valkyrie (OCV-07). The role play will allow you to assume various roles, ranks, and options that will affect the story both in the micro-level in terms of basic character interactions; while, simultaneously effecting the overall progression of the story. As such the loose plot of the story, centered around a series of operations, will directly and indirectly influence each other. In addition the role play will try to be as grounded and realistic as possible. Retaining a high degree of grittiness and practical aesthetics. As such, given the realism, player character death may occur depending on the decisions you make. So if you've read the OP, and decide that entering a hail of gunfire a la Somme style, don't bitch about it occurring. The role play will also stick to science and logic whenever possible. Obviously given that it is science fiction there are some work around, pseudo-science, and overall fantasy to allow for a fluid story that is easily comprehended by the reader. Techno-babble will try and be as lowkey, thoroughly explained, and at least reasonable at all times. The primary goal is to facilitate a believable, fluid, and fun story telling/reading experience.

The structure of the role play will follow a series of operations that the Valkyrie will go on. Anything from boarding, ground, space, asteroid, and space station operations could occur. Allowing for a great variety of environments to take place. As such given the various environments and the nature of the role play. Your characters are not gods among mankind. They probably will be put under extensive stress, psychological issues, and develop as the storyline progresses depending on their experiences. Seeing your friend of several years turn to red paste for stepping on a land mine isn't something you just shrug off like losing a game of minesweeper.

1. Respect. This outfit will not tolerate disrespect nor slander, flaming, baiting, or inappropriate behavior in the OOC. At any time.

2. The OP gets the final say along with any of the Co-OP's. You may disagree or agree however you wish but our job is to keep things going smoothly. I try to make everyone happy but I know I cannot please everyone all of the time.

3. Follow the tech guidelines. Any questions TG the OP.

4. Use Common sense and logic. You are not invincible nor omnipotent. Do something stupid and you may just end up KIA.

5. Fun, the object of this is to have fun. This train has no brakes in the fun department folks so enjoy the ride.

6. No one liners. One liners will result in Court Martial and removal from the ship, possibly on the other side of the air lock...

The Saga of Man

During the 2020's Man reached Mars, fueled by the investments of private corporations and entrepreneurs alike, Mankind began to slowly (but exponentially growing) colonize the solar system. Establishing a permanent settlement on the Moon and later Mars during the 2030's. Followed by mining operations that by the late 2040's began to effect Earth markets due to the influx of raw materials. All the while the fast growing population of Earth threatened to choke the nascent Human race before it even launched from its cradle. In 2054 automated mining facilities began to be established on the Moons of Jupiter and the asteroids belts. While benign bacterial releasing and hydroponics on Mars began to slowly form an atmosphere as Humanity put more and more efforts in terraforming the red planet. The terraforming of Mars cost trillions in currency but ultimately paid off as resources wars wracked the Earth in addition to religious, ethnic, and ideological strife. In 2061 NATO and the EU along with the Commonwealth States formed the United Nations Armed Forces (UNAF) and quickly took control of Human space exploration and operations. Using these resources the UNAF fought back across the Earth, slowly countries joined this union, then in 2075 a Parliament was set up to Confederate the UN as an emerging global government. By then colonists on Mars, The Moon, and now the Moons of Jupiter formed the Colonial Army in 2099 to secure these colonies. Allowing the UNAF to concentrate it's efforts in uniting Earth with the Armed Forces transforming into the Earth Space Force (ESF) by 2100. All of this progress being limited to the sublight drives of human exploration and colonization craft.

In 2125 Swiss and German engineers discovered a primitive method of FTL that could make short calculated jumps within 3 Parsecs. This caused an explosion in colonization as The Alpha Centauri system was colonized, Luhman 16 (known simply as Luhman) and Bernards Star were colonized immediately after, and the Leonis system by the 2140's had several outposts established. Pluto became a mining colony in 2141 as hundreds of thousands and then millions left Earth for new lives on these Colonies. But all was not peaceful for as the Colonies became farther from Earth their management became more difficult and strenuous. Independence movements popped up on the Moon's of Jupiter and the Moon by the late 2140's. Martian Nationalists emerged in 2155 under the banner of the Red Front.

In 2156 the Moons of Jupiter and Mars rose in revolt as the dozen colonies there declared their own secessionist states. Followed by the new Colonies in the Sirius and recently settled Lalande systems in 2157 under the Sirian and Lalande Independence Front (SLIF). The Colonial Army became divided with entire formations joining the rebels whole sale; while, the rest fought a brutal civil war as Earth debated on what to do. This indecisiveness caused massive political dissent. In addition to the strict economic policies placed on interstellar commerce between Earth and the Colonies.

The UEA (United Earth Army) fought harsh campaigns from the Sahara to the Artic and from the shores of Japan to the beaches of Florida. Terrorism, insurrectionist, and radicalism gripped humanity in fear. The ESF (Earth Space Forces) which had been formed in 2100 with the UEAAF (United Earth Army Aerospace Force), UEA (United Earth Army), ESSF (Earth Space Strike Force) and CA (Colonial Army) as branches was stretched thin and mass mobilizations occurred every year. Conscription was formally introduced on Earth in 2159 and publically acknowledged in 2162. Whenever a new campaign ended another began on a Colony world. Casualties rose into the hundreds of thousands in terms of civilian and military losses. Finally by 2173 Earth had regained control of her wayward Colonies via the ushering of major governmental, military, and economic reforms proclaimed in the Camp Luna Accords.

Starting in 2174 a number of reorganizations took place both politically and militarily throughout Human space. Leading to the Proclamation of a Unitary Terran State and the passing of the Terran Constitution to create a Federal state. The Colonies were given equal representation in the Earth government while the military was rebuilt to reflect that. The Earth Space Force was divided into the Terran Navy and Army. The Colonial Army was lumped into the Army as uniform recruitment and control methods took hold. The Earth Space Strike Forces and United Earth Air Army Forces were combined into the Aerospace Force, the Earth Marine Corps was renamed into the Colonial Marine Corps along with recruitment expanded to the Colonies; Finally, the Army Guard of the Colonies was formed as a form of territorial home guard. These organizations became known under the collective name: Terran Defense Forces with the motto, "For Earth and Her Colonies." Replacing the older UNAF as the military now representing the various Colonies along side Earth. Thus began the period known as The Long Peace.

The Long Peace continued with only minor interruptions until 2313 when the Great Colonial War began with the assassination of the Terran President Julius Cesare on July 4th, 2313 by Martian Communists. The Communist revolt began on Mars and swiftly spread across the planet. Proclaiming the People's Republic of Mars (Martian Republic, Red Republic, and Communist Mars being informal names). The Martians surprised everyone by unveiling a Martian Fleet formed from private resources and turncoat ships of the Navy which had been largely neglected over Earth and Mars. The AGC of Mars was heavily infiltrated and was quickly defeated or scattered in the first weeks of this new war. For the rest of 2313 the Martians were on the defensive, until February 2314 when the new Martian government signed an agreement with the newly formed Sirius Republic due to those Colonies seceding under their own movement known as the Sirian Emancipation. The Colonies in the Bernards Star system quickly joined the Sirius Republic due to similar linguistics, culture, and colonial history. War now was raging in two star systems with dissent growing on Earth from new nationalist movements wishing to secede from the Terran government and re-establish old 21st Century states.

Then in 2315 the nukes fell on Earth. A Martian Fleet had slipped past the Terran Navy's Earth Fleet by exploiting a computer virus that disabled early warning systems and radar. Thirteen Nuclear warheads with a combined payload of 330 Megatons fell on various locations. Detonating over Metropolitan Area's like Los Angeles, London, Paris, Beijing, Tokyo, and else ware. Millions perished from the blasts, radiation poisoning, and nuclear winter that followed in those regions. Hundreds of thousands of new cases of radiation poisoning, mutation, and cancer would occur several years after the war despite those areas being rebuilt and cleaned up. Further the Martian military commenced a ground invasion of Earth that took four months of dogged fighting to eradicate.

This event was followed by a Nuclear bombardment of Mars in repercussion. The Brotherhood of the New Sun, a Neo-Abrahamic religious faction took power in the Lalande system, and inacted genocide against anyone deemed degenerate in their eyes; additionally, fighting the Terran forces continuously till 2317 when the tide turned in favor of Earth. It was not until 2319 when the war ended with the Signing of the Stellar Armistice on September 15th. That date would become known as Stellar Remembrance Day (SRD). To remember the billion lives that were lost, civilian or military, during the 6 years of horrible conflict. The Terrans, Martians, and Sirius Republicans have been at peace since then.

The results of the War were sweeping. Mars, a world that had a population of over 1 billion had lost half of its population from nuclear bombardment. Millions on Earth perished from the nuclear assault. The colonies of Bernards Star surrendered and were once more part of the Terran fold while the system of Lalande was only pacified after hundreds of thousands had perished. All told the list of the deceased for civilian and military numbered 1,001,271,984 dead and missing.

The Terran Defense Forces (TDF)

The Terran Defense Forces are the evolution of previous Human armed forces over the last three centuries. They are the dominant military force in Human inhabited space and arguably the most advanced when it comes to warfare. The TDF operates in several branches: The Navy also referred to as The Fleet; The Colonial Marine Corps (CMC) which is responsible for non-ship void warfare, ship boarding and defense, ship security, and rapid planetary assaults from orbit with most ships and installations having Marines on board; The Aerospace Force (AF) which is akin to 21st Century Airforces but also operates space capable craft and strike fighters; The Army, responsible for major/prolonged/extended or long term ground operations and planetary garrison; Finally their is the Army Guard of the Colonies (AGC) which operates much like a National Guard on the planetary level for Earth's colonies and funded by the planets that maintain them.

The Terran Navy

Formed from the Earth Space Forces (ESF) in 2174 in the aftermath of the Colonial Insurgency Era (2156-2173) due to its division into the Navy and Army. The Terran Navy took up the area regarding space warfare and transportation. Often regarded as the senior branch for it's crucial role in the TDF.

The Navy in 2338 operates 150 capital ships (additional 30 currently mothballed) and hundreds of other vessels with a couple thousand support ships. The Fleet Base Headquarters in located on Earth in Luxembourg with the largest orbital shipyards being the Norfolk Geostationary Dockyards. The Fleet has roughly 5.3 Million personnel in its ranks as of 2338 and several million reservists.

Combining Battleship and Supercarrier the Odin-Class are the largest mainline ships of The Fleet. Approximately 1989 meters from prow to stern and 550 meters at its widest the Odin Class can comfortably house thousands of personnel for at least six month deployments. The Odin-Class has several sub-types which are in essence variants of the original design from 2309. The differences are minimal and usually temporary load outs for particular situations such as additional flight racks or removal of aviation space for increased armaments.

Introduced in 2309 with the launch of the Odin from the United Scandinavia Fleet Yards in orbit over the Moon. This Class was the largest warship ever built thus far. It received it's first taste of combat during the Great Colonial War of 2313-2319 when the Odin achieved numerous kills and the class was expanded with 14 additional ships during the course of the War. One of those original 14 was the Valkyrie (launched in 2314). After the war ended the surviving 7 ships remained active till the 2020's when newer variants were built and more advanced smaller ships that were cheaper and more numerous to manufacture came into being. All of the original's have been mothballed except the Odin and the Valkyrie while the newer variants of the class number 42 ships.


The Colonial Marine Corps

Originally the United Nations Marine Corps (UNMC) and then the Earth Marine Corps (EMC) and since 2225 the Colonial Marine Corps (CMC). The Colonial Marine Corps as stated previously has a myriad of roles and works closely with the Navy in times of war and peacekeeping. The Corps keeps permanent units aboard Capital ships and these Marines bear shoulder badges denoting the Ship's name, CMC symbol of a 24 ray sun, and the ship number along the Bottom (example: TNV 55). Aside from ship deployments the Marines keep man garrisons on Earth, Colonies, and space installations. As of 2338 the CMC has 1.9 Million active personnel with over two million reservists). Colonial Marine Supreme Command (CMSCOM) is located in Quantico, Virginia.

The Aerospace Force

The pilots and airmen of the TDF. The Aerospace Force has Carrier Air Wings and squadrons on many capital ships and space installations along with bases on almost all of Earth's colonies. The AF was born out of the combining of the United Earth Air Army Force (UEAAF) and the Earth Space Strike Force (ESSF) into one singular branch. In charge of dog-fighting, fast strike, and aerial supremacy on the battlespace whether terrestrial or stellar. Pilots also ferry group forces from the Army and Marines during combat. The AF currently numbers 3.4 Million personnel with just over a million reservists (numbers also include air crew/ground crew on planets/trainers). Aerospace Command (ACOM) is located in Germany at Kaiserlautern.


The Army

Also known as TA or Terran Army which is the primary terrestrial fighting force of the TDF. It is also the largest branch of the TDF numbering 5.8 Million active personnel with several million reservists by 2338. The Army controls the vast majority of the ground fighting vehicles and has garrisons over most of the Colonies aside from Earth. Formed in 2185 after the integration of the Earth and Colonial Armies into a single unified structure. Before that the Army was divided into the United Earth Army (UEA) and the Colonial Army (CA) which were created in 2061 and 2099 respectively. Army High Command (HIGHCOM) is located in Moscow, Russia.

Army Guard of the Colonies

The AGC was formed in 2190 as a way for the Colonies to raise their own terrestrial armed forces under the centralized command of the TDF, but not technically a part of it and thus not counted among its statistics. Each Colony equips and trains its own soldiers under TDF regulation and oversight. The number of AGC personnel as of 2338 numbers approximately 12 Million personnel with millions of reservists.

The image above primarily shows how rank pins worn on collar's of uniforms appear. The rank system for junior officers, senior officers, and flag officers will be those depicted as well. Enlisted and NCO ranks is where true variance among the branches come into play. The Navy's enlisted ranks are: Rating/Sailor, Midshipman (basically a supervisor of a group of crew), Warrant Officers (grades of Petty Officer, Senior Petty Officer, Chief Petty Officer, and Master Chief Petty Officer) that wear green pins and insignia. The Colonial Marines enlisted and NCO ranks are as follows: Private, Corporal, Lance Corporal (commands a fire team or senior platoon corporal) and Sergeant. The Marine rank of Ensign is mostly used for an Officer-in-training and is typically an NCO of the rank of Sergeant in the field. This is the same for the Army who use the same enlisted and NCO system. The Medical and Investigative Corps do not possess enlisted or NCO ranks and instead serve as attached personnel to a unit. As such a medical officer by the rank of Ensign's authority is limited to their specialty or if not equal/superior officer of a differing branch is present. The Aerospace Force uses Naval ranks except their basic enlisted is simply termed Voidsman or Pilot.

The Carrier Aerospace Wing of the Valkyrie is in effect a fully equipped and operable strike and support craft wing. At maximum strength of 220 craft and kept in peak condition by the tireless mechanics and technicians aboard the ship so it can sally forth and engage the Terran Governments foes across known space.

Not as nimble as a fighter craft and primarily used to ferry squads of Colonial Marines into combat. The Vulture Class an older but rugged, tried and tested, reliable aircraft. Designed to replace the outdated X7 Troop Gunship the Vulture entered service in 2308 with the TDF and fought throughout the Great Colonial War. Seeing service from Sirius to the skies of Earth and Mars and back again. It's popularity was such that it was also quickly adopted by the Martian and Sirius governments for their own troops.

As the Great Colonial War raged and high attrition losses in pilots and machines mounted the Aerospace Command on Earth designed and built the veritable Phoenix. At it's introduction in the final weeks of 2318 it was definitely the most advanced fighter craft in all of Human space. A fully stealth capable fighter with a rather impressive armament carried inside the hull it was sleek and fast by all accounts. But it was highly temperamental and expensive. So much so that pilots joked how it was more likely to die by personal error and crash than be killed from enemy action. At 3 Billion units of currency per plane it still remains the most expensive fighter ever built with only 144 ever being produced. A total of 98 planes survived the war and one is stationed aboard the Valkyrie. The one in question having been personally flown by Commander Starling when she served as a combat pilot in the Great Colonial War.

Entering service in 2332 at the request of the Colonial Marine Corps and Army for a more up to date support and combat aerospace craft. The Lockheed-Grumman Attack Craft is nicknamed, "Ironsides,' for its durable Titantium-reinforced hull that is capable of deflecting 20mm cannon impacts at long range and surviving hits in atmosphere from 30mm cannon fire. Performing the role of close-air-support (CAS) and heavy assault on space installations.

Designed in 2311 over needs of long range reconnaissance craft for the newer carriers being built by the TDF. Quickly earning its name as a capable light fighter, though its design is unsuitable for dog-fighting, and long range interceptor. Capable of carrying only minimal armaments unless modified the Raven is however fully equipped with scanners and geothermic detection suites and able to report back information beyond the array of the Valkyrie. Also being faster than most of its adversaries.

Developed in 2329 to replace several older pre-Great Colonial War era personnel transports the Northrop Light is primarily a bulk transporter. Capable of ferrying up to 50 occupants or several tons of supplies.

The Mecha forces of the Valkyrie are drawn primarily from Navy and Aerospace personnel. However Army and Marine applicants are known to join the hybrid specialists that make up the TDFs mecha units. Both the HARM and RAGNAROK suits are equipped with the AES Operating System. However the RAGNAROK system also features the new NIOS (Neural Interface Operating System) in addition to the AES. The AES system uses a right pedal system to direct Speed of the mech as it walks by pressing down on said pedal with computerized any location and assistance to help the leg maneuver rugged environments allowing it to work around rocky routs and work through debris. The left foot pedal swivels left and right and controls the direction of the mech motions. There are two "arm carriers" which are sent feed back systems which engulf the users arms and uses what is called a "Independent Joint Feedback System" which takes life information from the pilots joints while in the AES system and transfers Feedback from the arm to the arms of the mech this include shoulder, elbow, wrist, and finger movement giving said mechs an unprecedented degree of mobility and control in the arms and this is typically called the "free arms system". The head is encased in a "feedback helmet" which closely encompasses the users head and feeds the pilot field view via the camera system on the outside of the mech usually in the head section of the Mech. This display also works as an aiming system for weapon systems and as a recording system to send life feed to the soldier from his commanding base and feed from the mech to the command center with the video feed to the soldier of his surroundings the ability to zoom in and out up to 40x the original view.



HARM Suits, seen on the left of the image above, are the oldest class still in service. Entering service in 2318 in response to Sirian and later Martian mech designs entering the battlefield. The HARM suits were designed to support infantry units in spaces too confined for conventional vehicles, vertical combat environments, and void based environments. However, in open spaces they proved largely equal against conventionally tracked or wheeled vehicles. Packing quite a punch in heavy armaments, their open cockpits, and relatively thin armor compared to most IFV's and APC's meant they proved incapable of protracted firefights against anything larger than small arms fire.

Next is the MkVIII Assault Suits which in their current iteration entered service in 2330. The Assault pattern suits are meant to upgrade basic infantry weapon systems to survive in atmosphere less and hostile alien environments. Allowing soldiers to operate in poisonous environments while being armored enough to deflect most small arms fire and absorb most fragmentation impacts. The MkVIII is not a fully powered suit however and while not excessively heavy it can be physically exhausting for periods of time beyond several hours without rest.

The RAGNAROK Suits, the larger mechs in the first picture above, are the most recent innovation in Mecha designs by the TDF. The RAGNAROK makes use of a new neural uplink allowing operators lightning fast reflexes and response time to the rapidly changing environment. These are however prototype suits despite entering service in 2337. The Valkyrie possesses six such units but all of its pilots are relatively inexperienced with the neural interface in a true combat situation. As despite its pro's its con's can be glaring. Mental exhaustion and possible neural damage induced by possible neural backlash from the interface has occurred in trial runs.

The DAMOCLES Suit is essentially a vastly more expensive version of the MkVIII Assault Suits. Being fully powered and providing better armor they are of course controversial. The neural interface ported over from the RAGNAROK program proving that only relatively young minds below the age of 18 make perfect matches to learn the system. Family: Victoria Sterling was born to Admiral Honor Starling and Stephanie Starling (nee Greensworth) in Pembrooke Municipal Hospital. Admiral Honor Starling was in the Terran Navy and had commanded a string of military vessels before being appointed Flag rank and put on the Command Staff at Fleet Headquarters in Luxembourg. Moving the family to Earth in 2312 meant that the Victoria and her mother Stephanie were not trapped on Mars when hostilities started less than a years later. Honor Starling at the time was commanding the 9th Fleet in the Sirius System when hostilities broke out and he was soon cut off from the rest of the TDF and Earth. Honor Starling fought tenaciously against increasing amounts of Sirius ships and fighters. Ultimately facilitating an evacuation of as much personnel as possible from the star system on a perilous journey back to Earth. Arriving just in time to participate in the atomic bombardment of Mars a few months later. However, Admiral Honor Starling met his end when his Odin-Class vessel, Terra Nova, was destroyed in action over Venus in 2316. Stephanie Starling would later take her own life in 2326 on the ten year anniversary of her husbands death.
Biography: Victoria grew up in Pembrooke and Luxembourg. While at Pembrooke the young Victoria attended the Olympus Municipal District School until her move to Earth in 2312 at the age of 12. At age 16 she graduated the from Secondary School in Luxembourg and entered the Navy as a Crewmember of the Odin. She survived the year of 2314 and the atomic assault on Earth in which many close friends of hers perished.

Following the incentive of her friend and then lover, Charles D'Marie a Gunnery crewmember, Victoria transferred to the Aerospace Force and attended Basic Flight at Marimar, California. After her completion of Basic Flight the young Victoria was transferred to Luna for space flight training. Graduating top of her class she was stationed aboard the Odin during the battles over Pluto in 2316. Winning a citation for destroying four space craft in a single combat mission. Earning her Junior Pilot Badge and due to battle losses advanced to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant.

That was when the death of her father reached her and Victoria thought about resigning from the military all together. Only the words from the CAG of the Odin, William Lorde, prevented her from doing so. Becoming squadron leader of Black Squadron in early 2317 Victoria fought until the end of the war in 2319. Exiting the conflict with 81 confirmed space kills, 17 aerial victories (in atmosphere), destruction of 203 ground targets, assisted in the direct destruction of the Martian Frigate MMS Maricinus, and flying over 1500 sorties. Exiting the conflict at the rank of Lieutenant with a number of medals and awards.

At the urging of Odin CO Henry Calum, Victoria entered the Naval War College on the Moon and graduated in two years with the rank of Captain. Becoming CAG of the Odin in 2323. There she stayed until 2326 when the suicide of her mother occurred and Victoria returned to Earth as a director of trainees and the promotion to Major. There she stayed until 2330 when she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and placed in command of the 112th Aerospace Wing operating out of Marimar. But teaching and managing trainees was tedious for Victoria and she hated it. Urging to be back in space and command her own vessel. Entering the War College in 2331 Victoria exited in 2333 as the CO of the Destroyer TNV Mississippi and serving in the outer colonial system of Lalande. Running anti-piracy operations Victoria ordered a controversial firing of a nuclear warhead at a registered installation in the outskirts of the Lalande system. She was later triumphant as the wreckage was shifted through and it turned out to be a smuggling center. Her reasoning was that the Mississippi didn't have enough Marines to stage a assault without severe risk of failure or high casualties given the number of armed smugglers and pirates.

Following this Victoria was put in charge of the veteran but aging Odin-Class warship Valkyrie in 2335. She was double promoted to the rank of Commander but she saw this as a sentence to live out her career aboard an aging starship that should be mothballed in a few years.

Biography: Michael Blackburn was born to career parents near the landing site of Apollo 11. Michael Blackburn was raised by a duo of career soldiers, one an mild mannered and kind Naval Officer, and the other a loud, boisterous and somewhat rowdy Army NCO. Michael had always wondered how the two had managed to get along let alone get married with such a contrast in personalities.

While Michael's upbringing was somewhat normal, his natal stages were not. Fears of having a deformed or crippled child lead the man's parents to genetic therapy in order to avoid a number of defects. As such, Michael has the distinction of being a 'designer baby' to a certain degree. A notable event in which he lacks a commonality with most of his family, sans his nephew David, a similarly changed (yet much less controversial) designer child. While his relationship with his sister and her wife remains close, his brother is much less acclimatized, acting more as acquaintances than siblings in most occasions. His Nephew David sees him as both a role model, as well as a father figure, due to the homosexual relationship David's own parents are in.

Regardless of his start, Michael's life and journey to where he is today is what matters the most. Being born on Earth's sole moon, he was granted a rather hefty education, and perfect health services, though a severe lack of vegetation and any real outside activity gave the boy a hearty dose of wanderlust. This was something he tried to combat through other means. Such as theft. The only two instances he attempted to steal small things from a convenience store resulted -in order- the following: A stern talking to from his mother, and the realization that his father was a Drill Instructor for a reason. Needless to say his attempts to satiate his wanderlust remained inside the realm of the law.

After the colonial troubles started, Michael finally figured out how his wanderlust could be satiated: Visit new places, meet new people... and shoot them. So he enlisted at the nearest station, as soon as he could.

Entering the Navy, while a smart choice, was something that Michael had a stark apprehension about. The realization that he had no real control should the situation go south terrified the shit out of the young soldier at the time. So he did all he could to rectify that, and ended up as literal cannon fodder in the form of an IA for an MEF. Not much of an improvement, but should he have died at least it would've been the gentle bleed out of gunfire and not the dismemberment of explosive decompression.

The assignment would eventually land Michael in the defense of Terra itself, and in the years following, Mars as well. This lead to a rapid rate of promotion as the fellow swabbies around him bit the bullet one after the other. Until eventually the war ended. Yet Blackburn had yet to see all the galaxy had to offer.

In 2321, Michael would apply for the BVD/A (Basic Void Demoliton/AULD) training program, with the intent to become the best of the best, and with the bigger focus of getting a bigger chance to travel. Needless, to say, the man succeeded.

Over the next 17 years, Michael would remain a member of the NAVSPECWARCOM, usually as a member of the AULD teams, or to assist in training his former foes in joint exercises. All the while using the leave he was provided to spend time with his family back home, and despite the departure of his father, he still has fond memories.

Now, the 25 year veteran has been assigned to a rather old capital ship, with what is no doubt going to be an abnormal assignement, after all, MK VIII's aren't just handed out nowadays.

Family: Ana Garde was born to Captain Roberto Garde of the Colonial Marine Corps and Maria Garde, a civilian with a background in civil education. She has three younger brothers, two of which already served in the military as part of AGC Pluto and Terran Army, respectively. Her father died during the battle with the Brotherhood of New-Sun.
Biography:

Born in Pluto Alpha District of New Rio, which itself served as the main capital of Pluto. Her father was a military officer stationed in Pluto as part of CMC, a role which she idolized. Perhaps she was also the only part of the family who was more or less grew up to be more fit for civilian service, as per his father's request to not joining the military which he hoped would be ended soon enough. But it wasn't, for the most part. She went into Pluto Education Center in Alpha District which is a place where a series of education from elementary up to specialized high school is served, and because of her idolization on her father's job as part of CMC, after graduation she enlisted into Colonial Marine Forces at the age of 16, transferred to Academy at Los Angeles, United States.

When her father died in the battle, she received the reports on the training progress back in the Academy, almost pushed her to went back for a while. But with the supports of her friends and mentor at the academy, she persisted and decided to even threw more efforts in the academy. Graduated with above-average scores but not necessarily the top of her class, she was later transported to joined the CMC stationed at Leonis system on 2324, on the age of 22. There, as part of CMC of Leonis Prime served well in the roles of garrisons, ship security and ship boarding and defense, running on the line of reinforcing the AGC. It was here when she met her future husband, Lieutenant John "Johnny" Prime of AGC. They were in relationship for 4 years before married, with Ana moving to the reserve status and resettled back to Leonis Prime, with her husband moving back there as well.

All things seems to not end well, however. On 2330, on the age of 28, and with a child, her husband was found out to cheated on her and turned out to be a dazzling playboy being hunted for his debts on gambling, as it seems. She divorced her and left Leonis Prime to Pluto again. On the advice of her brothers, she re-entered the service and entered War College on the Moon and graduated three years later with the rank of Captain, and soon after entered the garrison service at Leonis Prime once again. Her husband was jailed despite his successful attempts at paid his debts, but involved in other crimes nonetheless. Only in Leonis Prime for a year, On 2334, on the age of 32, she was transferred to the Asteroid Belt, and running an anti-human trafficking raids as part of Marine Raider Corps. She returned home on occasional time to checked on her now-growing up child.

Following the harsh service and earned a medal for her service in the Belt, she was transferred to Valkyrie on 2338, now a Major as part of the promotion and the transferring.

Biography: Joseph Sampson was created in the bio-labs in the bowls of one of the calpulet corporations numerous buildings. One day the facility was attacked by a group of Martian terrorists. Joseph escaped and left for the nearest harbour. He managed to get on a ship heading to new London. He then joined the the anti Marxist league, a group of far right radicals. They managed to track down the Martians that attacked the facility and slaughted them. Joseph later considered leaving after they killed an entire settlement just because it's main religion was Jewish. He managed to get free when a ship they were attacking self destreucted due to a faulty ion reactor. He only just managed to escape in a pod. He was later found by the S.S Loki, a Terran ship.

Biography:

Born as the single daughter of a colonel in the investigation service, from a young age she was raised in relative comfort while being trained for any career path she may take, learning simple types of martial arts and self defense techniques when she was young. When her father died, leaving behind her and her mother, she still had not known of what she was going to do in the future and for a moment temporarily gave her training a break to go off to rest for a while to think about her thoughts and recollect on them. For a few weeks, she was indecisive. But after a while, she had a solid resolve that she would join the military and get into a position that her father would be proud of.

After she returned back to her training, she began to train with more determination, despite being clearly inept in hand to hand combat, she slowly began to switch out to other forms of studies which would help her in becoming a member of the military. When she was of age, she officially entered a specialized military school, specifically entering into a branch where she would follow in her father's foot steps, but was rejected and taken in instead by a branch specializing in ranged weapons. When she began to show talent in shooting and registered for a course on spying, the military took notice and after reviewing her background decided to appoint her to the service before she was of age.

After she finally graduated with honors, she was immediately transferred to the service and quickly put into service to get more on field experience since she had learnt almost everything they needed to teach her when she took up a spy course. Once she entered service, she immediately started work. Spying on any possible points of rebellion, ensuring that any rebellion leaders and crime lords were taken out to her now slowly but surely began to become a normal part of her routine. With her outstanding performance, she was quickly promoted to a senior agent. At that time, a mass operation involving a mass purge of crime and rebellion was being initiated and Archon was chosen as one of the few members to take part in it. Of course, following that operation and a few more assassinations of essential people involved in crime and rebellion, she was promoted to Special Agent. For her outstanding service, she was initially offered a cybernetic enhancement to switch her left arm out for a gun but she instead opted to switch the arm out for a gun of a similar design. However, the assassinations also caused her to slowly but surely grow cold and slowly lose most of her emotions, resulting in her having a cold attitude and nonchalant attitude in assassinations

At the same time, she was sent over to the Valkyrie to ensure that no suspicious activity would occur.

Biography: Kern was born in to a military family whose service stretched back at least three generations on both sides to the first colonial revolts. This long stretch of history has given to the idea that the Miles have maintained the martial traditions of their ancestral homeland, the Highlands of Scotland. Being brought up in the isolated north of the country, Kern was usually quite shielded from the events of the outside world, only really understanding what his parents would tell him. This tended to be quite little, as the two of them were usually being deployed to garrisons across the Terran colonies. Beginning secondary school when the nukes were dropped, Kern had to watch fearfully every night as more and more images were released of the horrors following the savage strikes dealt to them by the Martians. Eventually he would have to kiss his sister goodbye as she left to enlist with the Terran army in order to follow in their parents footsteps.
Kern himself would get a chance to avenge himself of the years of constant fear when he, with the political string-pulling of his grieving father, managed to pass through an extremely watered-down graduation course for Aerospace Basic Flight in California and joined the war as a fighter pilot on board Warspite. Here, his lack of experience there was only overshadowed by his lack of training. It was only through the attrition of war which allowed him any flight-time at all, seeing him receiving an unearned promotion to squadron leader. Despite the obvious lack of initial ability, Kern managed to settle in to the life of a fighter pilot, ending the war as a middling decorated ace. He had thirty-one confirmed space kills and assisted in the destruction of three Martian corvettes, Ambrose, Kayce and Redford.
Staying in the Aerospace for a further five years following the Armistice, Kern eventually found himself attending the Naval War Academy. The years there were grueling, given that he had to secretly learn a second course on top of his officer training. Despite several near fatal decisions to quit, Kern graduated as captain and returned to active service onboard the refitted cruiser Mont Blanc as its fully-fledged CAG. This position he retained for two years before finding himself enjoying another promotion to Major, a rank he blossomed in. That is until he suddenly mustered out. The reason for this sudden change of heart was often discussed in the warship after his departure, some claiming that family crisis had forced him to retire while others looked to the conflict between Kern and their commander, Eliza Water as an answer. It was the recent marriages of his elder siblings which called him back to Earth initially, and a heated argument with Eliza which urged him to throw in the towel.
For the next few years, this decision seemed to have been the best. He began to set up roots, a strong relationship with his oft-estranged family and even began courting a few women from his time at the Academy. This did not last long, however. Soon he realized that the pull of space was too much. He remembered how close he had been to being granted further promotions, possibly being granted a command of his own. This selfish desire to captain his own vessel, a warship like Warspite, led him in to the arms of Rosalie Krieg, daughter of the highly decorated Admiral Xander, victor of the battle of Red Forlorn. This connection, coupled with the tenuous link to Admiral Eustache de Povent, saw Kern being reinstated as Lieutenant Colonel on board the cruiser Valiant.
This post he held for a year, overseeing the deployment of Terran secret operatives on to Mars. During one such operation, a Martian patrol vessel appeared to be moving towards their concealed position, causing the possibility of the entire operation to be jeopardized. Taking matters in to his own hands, Kern ordered the Valiant to open fire on the operative's shuttle. Following this murder, he ensured that the Valiant escaped without being detected.
Having done as the operation brief had instructed, and with protection from his future father-in-law, Kern was able to survive the political fallout. Unable to officially congratulate him on his actions, given that a man had died, the High Command settled for promoting him while at the same time transferring him to what many officers would consider a retirement posting onboard the Valkyrie.
Kern Miles simply considers this another rung to clamber up to his own command.

Family: Roland was born into the Mburu family, a wealthy family of semi-aristocrats who ran a large number of plantations with cheap immigrant labour. A family tree of the dominant line is shown below. Almost all of the family was wiped out, leaving only Violet Mburu, Roland Mburu, his wife and children still alive. Biography: Roland was born into the Mburu family on the first of May, 2296. As the first son of William Mburu, he was bound to inherit the Mburu estate, and he was educated and raised as such. His educators put emphasis on temperance, hard work and good manners, cunningly suppressing some of Roland’s more natural, impulsive tendencies. He was educated in history, politics, economics, languages and other sciences that would make him a competent heir to his grandfather’s estate, who would soon pass over all duties to William, Roland’s father. As part of his education, when he became 18, Roland was given an apprenticeship with one of William’s old friends: the colonial ambassador to Earth. This Alexander McMaddoc was quite a feisty figure, and a fierce politician. He had actually been assigned to the ambassadorship because he was running amok in planetary politics, and the higher-ups wanted him gone. McMaddoc, a staunch conservative, had as a colonel of the AGC cracked down violently on the Brotherhood of the New Sun, while the government was pursuing a more peaceful settlement.

The political climate on Terra was one rife with learning opportunity, which is a nice way of saying that it was in chaos. After the assassination of the president, factionalism within the government had taken full hold. The vice president, who had been just a popular puppet of the president to gain the colonial vote, was now the most important man in the galaxy. Being a weak politician by himself, he had no way to crack down on the factionalism. There were generally two sides in the government: the pacifists and the war hawks. The pacifists, for one reason or another, wanted a quick peace with the Martians and later the Sirians. Some were collaborators, like the communists, hoping that a free socialist Mars would be the first step to Stellar Communism. Others were colonials, who wanted to see all colonies loose of Earth’s interference. The war hawks, on the other hand, were only interested in subduing the rebellions. They were made up of a confederation of officers, industrialists, nationalists and some colonial elites, like McMaddoc, who had much to gain by having a strong Earth as patron. Especially in the beginning, the war hawks held the most sway, with Mars hanging on for dear life. It was during this time that the line of Odin Battleships was ordered. A violent shakeup of the government was a result, with pacifists being purged out of most important government positions. McMaddoc resigned his post as ambassador and became minister of the navy, overseeing the Odin project among others. Roland was there when McMaddoc christened the Valkyrie.

In late 2314, however, the war began to turn. With the Sirius Republic now opening in full revolt, the war hawks were stretched thin. Some lost hope, and campaigning from the pacifists had turned public opinion sharply against the war. The week-long battle of Saturn’s Rings was a major defeat, resulting in the loss of two Odin-class carriers, which spelled doom for the war hawk government. The former vice president was impeached and replaced with the Speaker of the House, who tried to reach a peaceful settlement. McMaddoc was fired and replaced with someone from the pacifist camp, more interested in protecting trade than fighting major battles. It seemed like the Martians were willing to reach some form of settlement, however, and public opinion was heavily in favour of peace.

Then, in 2315, just days after negotiations had failed, Mars attacked with nuclear Armageddon. The new minister of the navy had failed to anticipate a Martian attack, and a well-targeted computer virus was all that was needed to crash Earth’s defences. The onslaught was horrendous. Hundreds of millions died in the nuclear flames, with Roland only surviving because he was on an out-dated list of government employees, rushed into a secure location. When the dust cleared, and many of Earth’s major cities lay in ruins, there was no room in Earth’s political climate for the pacifists. The minister of the navy was sacked, and because he was originally from Mars, he was implicated with treason and put to death by firing squad. McMaddoc replaced him again, and Roland again became his secretary. This was known as the ‘August Coup’, although it was more of a peaceful transition than a real coup. Over the following months, the navy was instrumental in destroying Martian pockets of resistance, and after a brief power play near the end, McMaddoc was ‘elected’ into the presidency by the senate, making Roland again his personal secretary. Once there, McMaddoc ordered the nuclear retaliatory strike, with all the knowledge Earth had gained from the Martian bombardment. It was far more devastating, done with surgical precision, and targeting both population centres and infrastructure. The food and material shortage that followed killed at least as many people as the direct bombardment did.

For the remainder of the war, the war hawks would retain their position. They were committed to a swift end to the war, and commissioned more Odin Battleships than ever before. The previous government had focussed on peace and economic warfare, while the McMaddoc cabinet pursued a more direct approach. In a continuous show of force, the navy sought out large enemy formations to destroy them, giving the new McMaddoc presidency a much-needed popularity boost. Roland, meanwhile, began to come into his own. Having learned much from the previous years, and because there was a blatant lack of older men and women, he became a part of the planetary bureaucracy. First, he became a sub-secretary in the Naval Commission, which managed the victuals of the various ships. In early 2316, he landed himself a position on the Commission of Naval Strategy, which was tasked with determining the long-term plan for a victory against Mars. It was around this time that he got news that his family had been wiped out by the New Sun Brotherhood. They had been killed for being part of the Old Order. His aunt Violet managed to escape the onslaught and took up a position in the navy as an active officer, like she had been in the ACG. Roland, heavily saddened, remained on his post, determined to win the war. His determination was what led him to support the Pluto Offensive, a push against Martian forces which guarded the route between Mars and Sirius. The campaign was hard and bloody, but did give the required result.

Eventually, in 2319, the war ended. The war hawks would have seen the war through to its conclusion, but infighting among the war hawks led to their political downfall. First of all, many war hawks switched sides throughout the conflict as it dragged more and more into a bloody stalemate. Secondly, the various factions inside the war hawk conglomerate could not agree on how to return to the status quo. The militarists wanted to inter Martian politicians and set up military governorships, while the colonial elites wanted the overall political system to remain unchanged, perhaps with even more autonomy. As this debate dragged on, more and more became disillusioned, and eventually the war hawks were ousted after McMannon resigned. Partially because he had lost all legislative abilities, but also because the Commission on Naval Strategy was now firmly in the hands of the pacifists, who only wanted to pursue economic policies from there. The new government finished the war peacefully in 2319. McMannon was charged with war crimes and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2321, a case wherein Roland served as a chief witness. He would have been prosecuted himself, but the new government didn’t want to tear open old wounds and recognised his help during the peaceful transitions of power. Roland, aged 25, gained a position as undersecretary in the naval ministry.

After their victory against the Brotherhood, Roland (as one of the few surviving pro-earth elites from Pacifica) returned to his home world at the head of the Commission of Reconstruction. In the beginning, he was adamant in getting his familial estates back, but those had already been redistributed countless times by the revolutionary government. Reclaiming all that land would have taken a legal eternity, so instead he accepted a reimbursement from the planetary government and left for Earth, where he married his fiancée Charlotte, with whom he would get two children. He fully committed himself to Terran federal politics from that point on, especially regarding the reorganisation of the wartime navy into a peace time defence force.

It is here that we finally see his education coming to full fruition. Roland was keen on learning the details of naval administration, and while there had been no time for that during the war, he was now very willing to get involved. Aged 27, he entered the naval academy as a cadet, using his experience in the ministry to get good grades. Of course, the military reality were quite different from the numbers of the ministry, but it was a head start many youngsters did not have. While the government post-war was rife with military men and women in civilian positions, Roland was probably one of the first civilians to opt for a military career. At the age of 30, he successfully graduated from the academy with the rank of Captain, with a special interest in military theory. He went on a view voyages as an official military observer, writing three books on the subject: Administrator on Deck, about his experiences as a civilian in a military capacity; Odin’s Feast, about supplying a ship with enough food and water to last their travels; and Officer on Desk, about being a military man in a civilian capacity. That last book describes the parts of his life between his 35th and 40th year, working full-time at the naval ministry.

Eventually, though, his past caught up with him. A rapport on the results of the nuclear war between Earth and Mars was released, detailing both the governmental response and the effects the nuclear exchange had. While McMannon, who had died in prison five years prior, was shamed fully, others were also named. Among them Roland, who had been a war hawk in the beginning of the war. The fact that he had ‘eluded justice’ didn’t sit well among the Terrans, and it definitely strained diplomatic relations with Mars. As such, Roland was let go, instead retrained to become a gunnery officer in the navy. There, at least, he was out of sight. Without any publicity, he was shoved out of the president’s inner circle, and his firing was hailed as a great victory of post-war justice. Roland felt betrayed, but loyally accepted the offer. Indeed, he was retrained to be a gunnery officer, as the navy lacked experienced men in that department. That is where we find him today, aboard the Valkyrie, as a disgraced public servant caught in his military experiment.

Family: Mostly unremarkable, Ozmann's family was spread out across Taurus and his immediate family had moved to NSF shortly before Ozmann was born. His father and mother both worked in the fish markets of Taurus, his father a warehouse worker and his mother an industrial technician for the fishing boats. He has two older siblings, a brother and a sister who are fraternal twins. His brother works on the fishing boats seasonally and drinks when not working and his sister is an office manager for one of the big fishmonger consortiums and also is also a reservist in the Taurus Army Guard.

He remains close to his sister and father, while he rarely has contact with his mother and brother, both of whom stayed in close contact after the parent's divorce.

Biography: If you ask Ozmann what his first memory is, it might be a bit surprising to you: it's a sound. It's jet wash screaming overhead. No one can remember where the lowflying craft was going at such speed, but Ozmann's love affair with flight likely started there. A middling student in school and university, his primary strength in academia was his luck. He'd fail or barely scrape by for most of the year and then, at the end, he would pull a passing average and pass on. He didn't play sports, instead, he spent most of his time reading anything he could get his hands on about the Aerospace Force, playing games about them when he got home. His parents and siblings would try time and again to get him interested in the dockyards and ports of their home, work was plentiful and paid well enough to survive on, but Ozmann's mind was made up, he was going to be a pilot.

His luck carried over from his secondary schooling into his undergraduate and graduate studies it would seem, his coursework came more naturally to him and he shot through his necessary coursework in half the time it normally took. He will jokingly tell you some bribes were involved, though a look in his eyes will tell you it might not be far from the truth.

Regardless, he quickly found himself graduating and was quickly accepted into flight school which was at the time looking to recruit basically anyone who was motivated. Ozmann took to his studies well and was a somewhat natural pilot. He had all the drive for excellence but in a small craft he had a bad habit of pushing the frame well beyond it's limits. Not only did this cause more than one drunken altercation with his ground crews but it also drove his instructors, who had been trying with no success to calm down his erratic flying, straight up a wall.

Eventually, he would be transferred from the Air Superiority program and trained instead in an Ironside which was more his style. He took to his new training well and graduated top 5% of his class. He would, however, pick up an unfortunate callsign. During catapult launch training, his first one in fact, he let out a scream. A high pitched scream. Hence his callsign SLAG: Screams Like A Girl.

Transferred to the 101st, Ozmann quickly got into the rhythm of shipboard life, becoming close with his flight mates in Ghost Flight and proving his talents time and again during training missions and was quickly promoted from Sub to Standard Lieutenant. The promotion wouldn't be a happy one though, a munitions detonation killed two of the Squadrons veteran pilots as they taxied from launch. Ozmann got the rank of one of the dead men but remained wracked with guilt for the next few years as he was supposed to be one of the two on that training op and had only been subbed out because he had pushed his Ironside too hard on a training mission the previous day. Right around this time he received his final, permanent, N/WC. Faridah"Werewolf" Malik. She would help him stay focused and become a faithful friend during this trying time in Ozmann's life and the two of them would become well liked within the air group for their positive attitudes and skill.

The remainder of Ozmann's time on board the Valkyrie was mostly spent training and staying ready and focused, the only hiccup being an altercation during a game of cards with some Marines. Words were shared, not all of them pleasant, and noses were broken. It was only because of the favor of his Squadron Commander and that the Marine Detail Commander at the time wasn't going to cause a fuss that Ozmann wasn't more harshly punished.

He and his squadrons are the first ones to deploy during an assault involving infantry, taking the risk and clearing a safe zone for the transports to fly in and the infantry to land. They are also used to soften up enemy ground forces near the drop zone, hitting SAM sites, radar installations, fuel and ammo depots, etc.

Character Description: Ingrid is notably taller than the average human at 6'5 (195 cm), a likely result of living on an asteroid and then a natural satellite. Due to her training she weighs a rough 144 pounds (65 kg), and has an athletic frame not unlike that of Olympic athletes. A number of smaller laceration scars line her body from encounters in her child hood, and her hands have numerous callouses and scars as a result of her escapades. Due to a sense of insecurity without her DAMOCLES armor, she wears it almost constantly, only removing it to bathe or when ceremonial dress is required.

Biography: Ingrid's life is not one of a wonderful space opera, or one where everything is benevolent and everyone's life is squeaky clean. Ingrid was, quite literally, the daughter of a harlot and a rapist. Her father she never knew, only finding out years later that he was caught and executed via lethal injection, while her mother was merely 17 when she gave birth to Ingrid. Ingrid spent almost the entirety of her life on the streets and alleys of Ceres station, a smog filled and industrial powerhouse, settled with the sole purpose of turning Ceres into a husk of rock and ice.

Ingrid didn't have to worry for too long about that however. When she was four, law enforcement took her from her mother, placed her mother into prison with a vagrancy sentence of a decade, and sent Ingrid herself into the nearest orphanage on Europa. It didn't keep her locked up for long. With her past experiences, Ingrid eventually started a new life on new streets. On the cold harsh and unyielding planet of Europa, she knew she couldn't live for long. So she snuck aboard a freighter, the CS Strontium Mule and hopped along to Luna.

When she finally arrived on Luna, she was discovered trying to leave the ship, and was arrested yet again for vagrancy. But yet again she escaped the orphanage system. She had further run ins with the law, until finally they dumped her into the military, specifically the Damocles program at 13 years of age. It was the child became the soldier she is now. Boarding action, firearms training, CQC training, and a plethora of skills and specialties were ingrained into her malleable mind. Another year was spent teaching the formerly illiterate child how to read and write in a basic capacity.

Finally, when she reached 16, she was officially welcomed as a part of the Terran Navy, and in the year since, she's been a member of the Valkyrie's Team Black. The only focus the young woman has is that of her team and the future. Her journey there, all it's people, and most of her past, left forgotten, like tears in rain.

My app is as done as it's going to get. I took a few liberties so if anything does fly just let me know. I can also knock out a brief profile and pictures for the rest of Ghost Flight if that's ok with you OP.
