Weekly Question Period (31 July 2017)
Hon. Rosa Van Ogtrop (Speaker) Before we begin questions without notice, I would like to remind our honourable members and recognise that we have a new Acting Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Odelia Ryskamp, member for St. Nikolaas and Minister for Security and Justice. I'd like all of you to extend her a warm welcome and we are excited to work with her.

Question one
Nationalisation of power companies
Hon. Jan Joiner (Leader of the Opposition, CONS) Thank you Madame Speaker. My question is to the Acting Prime Minister, what is your party's policy on nationalisation of the power grid?
Hon. Rosa Van Ogtrop (Speaker) The Acting Prime Minister has the call.
Rt. Hon. Odelia Ryskamp (Prime Minister, PROG) Thank you Madame Speaker. In response to the Leader of the Opposition, there are currently no plans to nationalise the power grid, or at least not under a Progressive-led coalition government.
Question two
Tax cuts
Hon. Rosa Van Ogtrop (Speaker) The leader of the National party, and honourable member for West Feltonsvale has the call.
Hon. Jarvis Grant (NAT) Thank you Madame Speaker. My question is to the Acting Prime Minister, what are you going to do to relieve the burden of tax from Van Hool families and businesses?
Hon. Rosa Van Ogtrop (Speaker) The Acting Prime Minister has the call.
Rt. Hon. Odelia Ryskamp Thank you Madame Speaker, in response to the honourable member for West Feltonsvale, we are focused on effectively using tax money and lowering the tax burden for lower class families. The current system we have for middle and upper class families, as well as businesses, is sufficient according to our government.

Question three
Freedom of speech
Hon. Rosa Van Ogtrop (Speaker) Now for the last question of the session, the leader of the Liberal party and honourable member for Apatauna has the call.
Hon. Viona Church (LIB) Very well, thank you Madame Speaker. My question is to the Prime Minister. What will the Progressive party do to protect the right a Van Hool citizen has to freedom of speech and thought. In many cases, left coalitions such as the one currently in government, have stripped laws protecting freedom of speech, and disregarded the very basis of what this country is built on.

Rt. Hon. Odelia Ryskamp Thank you Madame Speaker, I find it quite ironic that the honourable member for Apatauna brings this up, because I recall in 2015, the Conservative-led government of Driskoll van Hout put in place the Internet Security Act, which authorised law enforcement agencies to monitor internet communications of ordinary Van Hool citizens who were doing nothing wrong. So, I implore that you rethink that statement, and that you realise that this government cares more about freedom of speech and thought far more than the previous government.

Weekly Question Period (14 August 2017)
Hon. Rosa Van Ogtrop (Speaker) Questions without notice, the leader of the Official Opposition.
Question one
Tax
Hon. Jan Joiner (CONS.) Thank you Madame Speaker, my question is to the Acting Prime Minister. How long will her ignorance continue when it comes to business owners and the current cost of running a business? How long will she continue to ignore the massive burden the unnecessary taxes put in place by Progressive coalition governments place on Van Hool business owners? How long until the Government realises that they will one day run out of other people's money?
Hon. Rosa Van Ogtrop (Speaker) Thank you, the Acting Prime Minister has the call.
Rt. Hon. Odelia Ryskamp (Acting Prime Minister, PROG) Thank you Madame Speaker. Like the week before last week, I find it highly ironic that this is coming from the Opposition. In 1998, the Progressive Conservative led government of Katelijn Reynders implemented the GST. This placed an unneeded economic burden on business owners big or small, families, and any Van Hool taxpayer. And for what? Well, I'll tell you for what! Just a year after the implementation of the GST, Progressive Conservative MPs, including Reynders herself, were caught using taxpayer money for their own personal gain! Now, Madame Speaker, I don't know about you. But that seems highly suspect. Don't you? My fellow honourable member, the Progressive led government, the government that currently leads this strong and hard working nation, has never been in such a scandal, and we plan on keeping it that way. Why do you say that? Because we aren't the ones implementing taxes for our OWN personal gain! This government has already repealed unfair taxes that put a burden on the Van Hool worker. This government has already put in place laws to prevent MPs from throwing taxpayer money into their own wallets. Madame Speaker, this government has done more for the Van Hool taxpayer than any Conservative led government that has come before us. We use taxpayer money to improve the lives of the TAXPAYER, and not just our own. Thank you Madame Speaker.

Question two
Australia-Van Hool relations
Hon. Jarvis Grant (NAT) Thank you Madame Speaker. My question is to the Acting Prime Minister. What will the Progressive coalition do about Australia-Van Hool relations? Australia is our single biggest trading partner, and one of our very closest neighbours. I'd hate for the government to squander that over disagreements with their government.
Hon. Rosa Van Ogtrop (Speaker) The Acting Prime Minister has the call.
Rt. Hon. Odelia Ryskamp (Acting Prime Minister) Thank you Madame Speaker. Well, to the honourable member, I do not have any sort of a clue as to what you're getting at with this question. I do concede that Australia is our closest ally, and has been since the idea of this nation was made reality. I don't really understand why you think that I've somehow shunned Australia, that statement seems very strange indeed. Especially considering that I'm meeting with Prime Minister Turnbull in Canberra next week to discuss Van Hool-Australian relations, and to strengthen the ties between our nation. My fellow honourable member, tell me, when was the last time you, as the leader of the National party, visited our neighbours to the south? I seem to recall that you have NEVER actually visited the nation in the entire time that you have been leader of your party!

Road infrastructure
Hon. Viona Church (LIB) Thank you Madame Speaker. My question is to the Acting Prime Minister, what will you do to improve the rather sorry state of road infrastructure throughout the nation?

Rt. Hon. Odelia Ryskamp Thank you Madame Speaker, and a very warm thank you for your question, my fellow honourable member. For once we agree, the state of infrastructure in this nation is dreadful, I'll be the first one to admit it. And you know what? We're doing more to change that than any government before us. Under the Van Hout government, road infrastructure, especially in regional areas, was completely sidelined in favour of rather pointless legislation. The Government has already pledged ten million guilders to improve our roads, and make them safer. In two years, I promise you my fellow honourable member, there will not be a single pothole this side of the Solomon Sea.

A bill to acknowledge the Maori language, and to change it's status to an official language of the Commonwealth, citing the language's status as a "lingua franca" among native Pacific Islander peoples in the Commonwealth. Written by the honourable member of the Nordhoek provincial parliament for Knight Harbor, Huhana Manaia (PINP), and presented to the federal parliament by the honourable list member Stephen Renholm (LAB).

Hon. Rosa Van Ogtrop (Speaker) I declare that this House is to vote on Bill 13-8. The House and I agree that it has gone through sufficient debate and adjustment throughout the course of it's three readings and that it is ready to be voted on. Members in favour of this bill, say aye.
